What the hell do you want me to say? She was being disrespectful, okay? >> Oh my god, I >> Financially, you know, I can't support this apartment by myself. >> Not everyone going through hardship wants someone to step in, [music] and not every attempt to help feels welcome. >> Flinch got dislocated his arm her on the rib cage. He just got to pop it back in real quick. So what? >> Just arrest me. I've been in jail before. >> I don't want anything to happen to you. >> This video shows what can happen when the truth surfaces at the most unexpected moment. Christmas, a time meant for family warmth, instead became the backdrop to a tense law enforcement response following a call. >> And um I'm calling from New York. Um I have a niece that is down in Palm Coast. Um she's in like a domestic situation with her three children. To get information, she's scared to call the police. Um but she wants to move back home to New York. He dragged her around the house by her ankle, punched her in the in the temple. Um and she sent me photos to my email like but I don't know if they're from today or not. But there's in the photos there's scratches on her neck, a lip >> On December 23rd, 2022, Florida police received a call from an aunt in New York reporting that her niece had been living for years in a high conflict [music] household with her partner and three children. She also provided images showing concerning signs [music] on her niece to support her report. Notably, the woman herself did not seek [music] assistance, but the aunt's call set a legal process in motion. One that, once initiated, is difficult to stop simply [music] because those involved reconsider. >> Hello. Are you in 516? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you in 516? >> Yeah, I am. >> Okay, hey. Uh can we talk? >> Yeah. >> Are you >> I'm just scared. What are you scared of my face is? >> What do you mean scared of my face is? Hi, are you Kennedy? >> Hi, yeah. >> Okay. >> Um >> Okay. Are you just going back around in there? >> Okay. >> Are you able to come out and talk to us? >> I'm sorry, what did you say? >> Are you able to come out and talk to us? >> Yeah. >> Okay, so we got a call from the neighbors that there was some stuff going on earlier here. >> Wait. >> Is there anything you want to talk about? Do you want to go somewhere and talk? No? Okay. Uh at any point was there any screaming, any arguing? >> Yeah. >> Yeah? Did it get physical? Are you sure? Your kids are not going to get taken away. Do you understand that? >> I'm sorry. >> It's okay. >> I don't really know what I'm doing. >> Okay. the neighbor. Okay. Did you talk to the marshal at all? >> No. >> You want something? >> No. No. >> Did it get physical at all? >> I don't know. I don't want anything to happen to them. Like I don't want to get arrested or anything like that. That's all I got to say. >> I don't want to >> talk about it. >> I don't want to talk about it. >> I just want to >> We just got I'll be right in. I'll I'll come and talk to you. We got some complaints from the neighbors, so I'll talk to you in a minute. >> She's really upset. >> Okay. Yeah, you're not in trouble. >> Um But yeah. No, it's all A got a on, you know. So, yeah. Yeah, everything's fine. going on over there. Yes. So, yeah, I'm sure my kid Yeah. >> She's telling me her concern. >> I know. I said to her I cuz history. No. And that's why I get a little concerned. >> Specific specific on history? >> Yeah. >> Like in New York? Did anything happen today? >> Yeah, I mean like reality, you know what I mean? But I don't want to I don't want anything to happen cuz I cannot have them leave. >> So, you and my aunt are trying to >> Can't have them leave? >> Like my I can't have I can't want I can't have them arrested or taken away right now. >> Why? >> Because I can't support anything on my own right now. And you and my aunt are trying to construct a plan. >> of action. Charlie 61325 I'm going to be central. Okay. >> Secretly I'm trying to and make a plan. And then mama could drive them right now cuz Like I said, there's a history with the police and stuff like that. I think it was >> Yeah. >> Has he been arrested before? >> Mhm. >> Here? >> No. >> Okay. For the same reason? >> Yeah, but in New York. >> Mhm. >> I just I don't want any trouble. I don't >> I don't want to jeopardize >> I never hesitated to call or anything like that. >> That's 50/50 Dawson's file. >> Um so, I just So, I just set up a little meeting. Um >> Let me just kind of let him know what's going on. So, aunt called and she's telling me her >> Mhm. >> And that uh he put her in he can't have them really today and that he wants them to return and she didn't want anything to have to do with kids, that's why she didn't call. >> Okay. >> And, he's inside. He has no idea. I told him the neighbor called. Clearly, so I'm not going to like say the actual >> Say the actual reason. >> No, she said everything Yeah, that's what I That's why I said it because I didn't want it to be anonymous. But, she didn't care. She knew. She just didn't care. She didn't want him to know. >> Okay. >> He has no idea what it was. >> Okay. >> Despite enduring the situation for 10 years and allowing [music] those tensions to affect the children, the mother expressed frustration toward her aunt when officers arrived. >> So, do you want to tell me what led up to No, she said I She said Yeah. She told me he got a bad bad day. Yeah, I know. I I don't want to say anything to her because I don't want to get her in trouble. That's what I'm figuring out. You know, if I needed to speak If I wanted to have him out, then I would have called you guys myself. I'm not saying that but, you know, in the past, like I said, there's a history. I said this once to call the cops. That's different the second time. So, I won't hesitate. But, with this situation, I don't I don't know what to do. I don't know what to I have nobody here. Like, nobody in Florida. You know, so if it were to happen, I I need him right now financially, as you can probably understand, you know. Um and it's holiday season. >> I can't understand that. >> I know, of course you can't. >> No, I I haven't been through it. But, what you're doing is justifying it. And, it's never just a violent thing for any man or any woman to do that to anyone. >> Yeah, no, I mean >> Especially in front of your kids because eventually, it's going to be your kids. Or, it's going to continue being you. And, you're you're not a bunch of them. >> Yeah. >> So, I don't understand when you tell me to do I I don't understand. I don't think that's ever okay. >> When you're When you're in situations like this, it's easy to understand. >> But, but you have a way out. You have a way out. Your aunt said she'd come get you. >> Yeah, and that's why I'm like that's why I'm mad at call cuz I'm like personally I'm like please don't say anything. I just want to know if I like talk to you guys and like is something going to happen? I don't think anything to happen. >> Whatever you tell me, if I find anything I have to act on it, okay? >> Yeah, and I just >> I'm telling you that but I I want to know what kind of happens. >> I don't want to talk about it because I said you have to act and I I cannot I cannot and this is my mental state. >> I'm going to go in there and call my aunt. >> I'm so upset. Cuz she told you guys. Um just know that I'm working on it. I'm working on it. >> I have to talk to him. >> You can talk to him. >> Oh, I know. I'm going to talk to him and I'm going to find out if >> Whatever you going to do, I'm just letting you know. >> Okay. >> I'm letting you know. >> Whatever I decide, are you willing to do a statement today? >> Meanwhile, her partner acknowledged that we argue almost every day while denying that he had acted inappropriately. >> No, I'll I'll call him. You want me to call him for you? Let's see. Mike, hey Mike. >> Sorry, I'm talking. >> No, you're good. Okay. Are we able to come talk? >> Yeah, I'm going to put this on here. >> Okay. >> It's all all three of you guys. >> We're waiting. >> Right there. >> Okay. >> I was watching. >> You can just put it >> I think he's right there. >> I'm going to stay here for a second just in case. Just call Oh, okay. Hey. Can he come talk over here? You there? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. All right. So, the reason we're here is we got a call from neighbors that something was going on over here earlier. >> Okay. >> So, there was screaming. This isn't the first time. >> I was going to say she's been going since yesterday afternoon. >> Yeah, it was it's the lady. >> Oh, yeah. You want to know what happened? when you What was the screaming and the arguing? >> It's pretty good. We were yelling this morning. >> What did you yell about? Did you yell about anything? So, is there something happening that you know about? >> No, we were yelling. >> How long were you guys yelling? >> No. >> Did you yell at her before? >> What were you guys yelling about there? >> I don't know. Were you yelling again? >> Yeah, I know. That's why we're here. >> Oh, that's the problem. This is my name. >> So, what did you do? What did you do? >> Um I don't know. Honestly, I don't really know. >> So, you remember that you were arguing? >> But you don't know what it was about? >> What happened then? It's 8:49 p.m. >> Yeah. >> I mean, I'm not trying to be rude. >> Okay, so I'm being serious. I have three kids. I'm stressed and tired and don't sleep and it's upon me. But again, not like the whole day, you know. >> Mhm. >> It used to get on me a little bit. Today, she was at the store and got home from walking the dog again. So, I went down there and said something and she made dinner and I was in my room and my son came out and he was sitting in the living room quite a for a while actually and then he ran out the door. >> Okay. >> So, I don't have I don't know. I don't know. We have kids. We argue, you know. They don't listen to her, I yell at them, she yells at me. That's basically the gist of it every day. >> Okay, well, the argument that was heard was something along the lines of you didn't sleep. >> Didn't sleep? >> Yeah, you were upset cuz you didn't sleep. >> About me? >> That you sleep nights I mean, you work nights. >> Well, I was, but I stopped cuz it >> 10-4. >> wasn't working. >> Okay. >> I changed so I could sleep during the day. Yeah. >> What happens when you guys argue? I know that you got arrested before. I looked it up before I got here. You got arrested before for >> Oops. >> Is that normal? >> No. No, it's not normal. It was 20 years after the kids [ __ ] was falling and he was just very difficult to deal with. He was saying crazy things and I was good. >> So, what happened when you got arrested the first time? >> What do you mean what I >> When you got arrested for it? What was >> I knew what was going to keep but I was never for anything. >> In New York? >> Yeah. Never actually ever. >> Okay. >> I mean she might have said that briefly and then it was dropped so it never came up. It was all dropped so it was never >> Yeah, but you got arrested for it, right? Did any of that happen today? >> No. >> It didn't get physical at all today? >> I never put my hands on her. >> Okay. >> We have three children together once >> That means nothing to me. I I see it all the time people people and they have to >> Well, who cares what I don't do that stuff. I'm a good person. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. >> Put my hands on her and then >> Okay. Just saying she needs anything. >> For law enforcement, the issue is not who wants to speak up, but whether there is sufficient legal basis to believe a violation may have occurred. They are required to proceed when there is probable cause in domestic conflict [music] cases, even if those involved are unwilling to cooperate. >> All right, once we put these on we'll explain everything that's going on, okay? >> Yeah. My wallet. >> Okay. >> Can I take my wallet >> Take off your jacket. >> Charlie, just lean on the car. Come here and lean on this one. Okay, right here. Just lean on the car. >> Why? I I just don't understand. >> Sit in there and I'll explain it to you. Can you tell me to the back? All right, you're going to have a seat. All right, so you're placed under arrest for domestic Um We have 809. You hitting your wife inside the head earlier today. Um not from her directly, from another party. >> What other party? My dog. The neighbor >> You said your dog? >> Yeah, like who else is in my house? I would never hit her. >> Okay. All right, I asked you what happened. You had a chance to explain yourself. You didn't want to tell me what occurred. You were very vague, very evasive. >> trying to be vague. I I have a busy life with three kids and I we argued this morning. >> Okay. >> But I absolutely did not hit my wife. >> Okay. >> And I don't I mean I didn't hit nobody. So she said that I would be She I don't think that she would say >> Okay. >> So you're saying a third party said it. >> Yes. >> I mean the third party said >> Okay, I'll be back. I have to go talk to her, okay? >> Oh, okay. >> Do you want to stand? Okay. I just need uh all the paperwork. Yeah. If you run into any boy or girl tonight that you want to give a gift, like their actual gift, just tell me. Huh? So one day you will, Dorsey. >> The mother chose to remain silent in an effort to preserve stability for her family. Yet at times, that silence can have lasting effects on children, including a greater risk of emotional, behavioral, and relationship difficulties as they grow older. >> Hello. Huh? I didn't say anything. I have you on body cam. Yeah. You didn't. You said you weren't going to Okay, um Do you want to step out here or do you want to talk like in private? Okay, fine. You said that it happened earlier. You need something? You know? Okay, Kennedy, um I understand this is not what you wanted, okay? All right. I understand that. Okay, one, you're on What did you say? I know how this goes, and I didn't say yes or no. So, Well, that's enough. And then when I had asked you, you had you said alluded to that that occurred. The phone call or not The phone call was enough. And me coming here and speaking to you, I have enough to pursue. And even after speaking to you, it was even more. I wanted to get more information. I understand this is not what you wanted. This is not the outcome you wanted. Um but he committed an offense. I I don't know what else to tell you. It's not okay for him to hit you and you calling your aunt and saying that all that occurred today. So, what happens to him? Okay, this is what's going to happen. He won't be able to come here until he sees a judge. Then he's not going to be here for a >> Well, he knows he's under arrest. He does. >> Did you say like >> for domestic and he got away with it. >> Did you say anything or did >> Nope, I gave him a chance. He says, "I've never hit her in my life." Whatever happened in New York, um he got let off. It was proved that he never hit her. And he said, um "Who would tell on him?" He says, "I know it wasn't her. It was the dog." He got He sarcastically said, "It was the dog." He said, "Who else would tell on her?" So, was it the dog? Sarcastically he's saying, "Was it the dog?" And I said, "No, I didn't put your aunt's name in it." I mean, eventually when I do the affidavit and that I spoke to her that that occurred. And he's going to see that it was her. So. >> So, what else do you want to tell me? >> Is there anything I can tell your aunt to help you? >> No. >> I know this is not what you wanted, okay? >> I didn't say I just I didn't It's whatever. He said, "So, what do you know about her?" And I didn't admit to anything or say anything. I just said we were arguing. He said, "Leave." And I was like, I didn't say yes or no. I didn't say anything. >> You said yes, but you didn't want anything to happen to him. I mean, you're free This is all public record. >> that. I know that. >> And you're able to see it, okay? I wouldn't act on something that I didn't have enough like when you're saying that you're making it seem like I just did it to did do it. I had a third party. I made contact. You told me it happened. >> What if I didn't answer the door? What would have happened? Would you have done that? Like did I have to answer the door just now? Because if the door because they don't I just would have said no. Things like that. >> I know, but look at look at your mind process right now. Do you see where you're at? What would have happened if I didn't answer the door? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I mean, I'm not sure what to tell you. I understand I don't understand what you're going through, but I can understand the emotions of all this coming at you at once. I can >> It is Christmas. >> I >> You know what I mean? That's what I'm like. I said, "I just I just don't understand I just don't get it." I just say that. So, that's why I'm so confused. Don't explain to me if you're not even going to listen to me. It's just That's what's frustrating. >> I spoke to you and um you told me that person and you didn't want to pursue it. I asked you if you would do a statement which you did and you thought about it. You told me no. You said you didn't want him to get in trouble. You said you had a plan to get out of here cuz he's been hitting you all the time since New York and he's been arrested before. You told me all of that. >> In the middle of the holiday season, watching a loved one being escorted away was not easy. [music] In her eyes, this was not the end of the tension but possibly the beginning of another period of uncertainty, finances, housing, and the children's future. >> I understand you know, I understand what you have to do. I I understand all of that. I just I just find it different cuz in in New York, you know, like I've told you, it's a zero tolerance for domestic I can see that because in New York, they would be like, "Okay, what happened?" And I'd be like, "Oh, no, nothing." "Okay, have a good night. See you later." You know, and so that's why I'm like really confused. >> Now, in Florida and especially Flyer County, we have zero tolerance for domestic because it gets really is the worst thing. It progresses into Yeah. Worst case scenario, that's it. And we try to protect the victim as much as we can. And >> Even unwilling like even when the victim is unwilling to >> So, yeah, like I brought a statement for you to write. With or without this the arrest is made. Do you know what I'm saying? This >> I made it very clear that I just want to walk away. It's just It's just It's just walk away and that's what I want to do because in the past multiple times in New York going through this this exact situation. And And each time I regretted it. I regretted it. I bailed him out. I regretted it. I regretted it. We regretted it in the sense of like we could have called you guys like the police because it's such a drama. Like I I can't I go back anyway. It doesn't help anything. It actually is making everything worse right now. I I kids are missing their father at Christmas forget about what we went through. My kids now are missing their father at Christmas. And um and financially, you know, I can't support this apartment with myself. We could barely support it together. And now I'm thinking well now what? Especially if he can't come back. The hell I understand but my aunt said what she said. But in the next couple of days he can't. Well let's just say like let's say the judge decides that he can't come back. X amount of a year or what whatever whatever they work with. I can't like I can't even in New York but I have to support him like less kids you know what? Before we had kids and they went through this even that tough and now we have three children and in place I don't know. They have to just stand for my perspective like if I would if I felt like I needed to call the police which I don't hesitated I would have done so and just >> What's your what's your path? >> Like from the past like what was it? >> To this day right now what's your enough? >> Like I have I'm not going to be Yeah. >> Do you hear yourself? >> I know it sounds insane. >> Not insane. It's That's you just being victim and over. You're like oh well I can tolerate a little bit more. I can tolerate a little bit more. At what point do you understand? >> You're you're right. I just >> I just I wish I could help you and you know what? I actually have two gifts that are in my car. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> I just don't you guys >> some Christmas gifts? I got two in my car, a boy and a girl. Look at that. I got >> Thank you. >> Yeah, of course. But just >> I just I don't know what to do cuz this Christmas >> That was like another day. I I probably be more like, all right, reach out to your aunt and ask her for financial support for the next couple days. She said she was willing to help you guys. >> I know, but it's willing to do what she's like my sister. We're very very very close. >> So, [clears throat] I think you should do that. >> And she even said to you guys, she didn't want you guys to come here. She's like, I I told >> No, she Yeah, she but you guys could you had to now. And then I said, "Chrissy, why don't you give my name and my address?" >> Yeah, the moment she told me that he did what he did today, like this past semester not saying we brush that aside, but if there's history over and over of and we get brought up in it like it was going it was like 4:00 p.m. That's not really relevant. You know what I'm saying? It happened today. So, when things like that, we have to act on it. When you say, "Oh, I it like 3 years ago." You know, we still document it. But it's very hard to prove that that because of the delay of the incident. Do you know what I mean? >> Oh, yeah. >> But but it happened today earlier this afternoon. Therefore, we have to investigate. She told me and we're here. >> But I was planning that for like a month or two from now. You know what I mean? Not like uh Christmas Day or Christmas weekend. Like this is not This is not okay in for my kids. It's not even I'm not even thinking about me. This stuff doesn't help me. This is not helpful. This is It makes it worse every time. That's why I'm so angry. And I know that you do your job. It just makes it worse. I mean, look at this. Who wants to deal with this? Like I I don't want to deal with the other I get I get it from your perspective, but >> I see you. Okay? I see what you're going through. I I understand all the aspects, but you don't need all of those aspects in addition to what is occurring. I don't want to say anything in front of your children. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> But in addition to what is occurring, that is worse. You're not a punching bag. >> I know that I didn't call you guys cuz it is Christmas weekend and this is exactly like a double whammy of like what I don't want happening. If it was like in the middle of January and this is happening right now, I'd be like, you know, but like my kid now my kid has to suffer his fault, of course, in a sense, but this is not It's not This is not what This is not This is not I just I'm I'm beyond angry right now. >> Anything I can >> do to help you? There's really nothing. This is not helpful. Um I appreciate you doing your job, but >> After several attempts to seek clarification, officers were still met with the mother's refusal to provide further [music] details about what had taken place. >> Now, I'm going to ask you if you want to do a written statement of what occurred here today. >> No. >> Okay. The report's going to say exactly what your aunt told me. That you called her earlier to say, "I don't want to say it aloud, but he was trying to sleep and got loud and you hit him upside the head." He punched her in the eye. That's what she told me. That's what the report's going to say. He's saying that she told me this. Okay. So, when he had asked me, I just said it was a third party. Okay? But, he will eventually if he reads the report, he's going to know where it came from. I just want to give you the heads-up. That's how it's going to transpire. >> It's discouraging to get help. I was going to I have to I'm just >> Yeah, I was going to tell you I don't want you to be discouraged or be hesitant to call police next time. >> Like it's appreciable when it's working, but when it's not, it's more from experience. It's more dangerous than not. Like it's more dangerous to call you guys than not to. And I just I'm just >> Looking at financially or >> In every way. It's just like there's more bad than good, but I understand the reasoning, common sense, the reason someone >> What would you do if this was something happening to one of your kids? >> If it was something happening to them, same thing, your daughter's in the same situation and your daughter calls you like you called your aunt. What would you do? >> I would I would be very nervous, but I if they told me not to do anything, I would respect that to a degree. But like Like Like I would make a little inquiry, but it's But then I'm smart enough to know how the justice works and she doesn't. You don't drop your name and address like she did innocently which is you know, very hard to just not think of the bigger picture. You know what I mean? So that's what I'm getting at. But it's all good intentions, I understand that. And you know, I understand what they're doing. So there's something else >> I wish I could. >> It's just I wish it wasn't on Christmas weekend and that's that's the biggest problem I'm having right now. So >> I'm going to go really quick grab those things for your kids, okay? >> Thank you. We appreciate it. >> Yeah, of course. >> The man was charged with domestic battery. Under Florida law, he could face a [music] potential sentence of up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Children need more than a roof over their heads. They need a stable environment to support both their physical and emotional development. Adults may endure, compromise, or reassure themselves, but children do not have the same options. When a crying child knocks on a neighbor's door, what happens behind that family's door is no longer entirely private. >> She tried to sweep around, she grabbed my hair like this, hit the wall. Like there's a bunch >> On May 20th, 2025, police received a call from a neighbor reporting that a 13-year-old girl had run to their home in a state of panic. She said her mother had acted in a way she felt was too forceful during an argument. At the scene, [music] officers observed several visible signs of distress on her, prompting a closer [music] review of the situation. >> Feeling it. >> Hi. >> Hey buddy. >> This is my granddaughter. Is she here or there? >> She's She's next door. >> Okay, look. >> No, Teresa. Grandma? >> Yeah, the grandmother. >> Okay, I'm >> She didn't tell us that her dad was over there. >> We got a call from your mom. >> We got into it. She got disciplined on her on her birthday. She just got a bump on her head. A little bit of swelling on her face. She said mom slapped her. Well, so I've I've seen people worked over here. >> Okay. >> Can you come over here and can you bring her over? >> What's >> Can you come over here? I'll go see what she wants to do. Hey, grandma's here next door. Do you want to go over there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Bye, Lydia. >> Bye. >> Later, boys. >> I just got to grab my clipboard real quick. >> Yeah, grab that. >> Here's grandma here. All right, we can come over there if you want. >> I want to sit come over here. >> Whatever makes everybody more comfortable. I mean, they've been kind enough to let her hang out here for a little while, so. >> Lydia, can you just do me a favor real quick? Can you raise your right hand? And do you swear and affirm that everything you told me is true? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Lydia, is there any Can you fill out this form for me? >> What is this? >> It's like, does she control your life and everything you do? Does she get upset when you're maybe a little defiant to what she says to do? Stuff like that. >> Um what do I do here? >> So pretty much just what happened, what you told me in your own words. >> Can I get to read what she wrote? >> Yes. Yeah, this is just a assessment on all these questions and boxes. That's her statement right there. >> Can I put a line through that? >> Yes. You can also do the same on this front sheet also underneath where there's no more writing. So we got to go talk to mom, get her side of what happened today. If it's sufficient for an arrest, an arrest will be made. >> And what's sufficient for arrest? >> Well, right now we have probable cause for child abuse. >> I'm not the victim. >> No, so she's going to she's going to fill this out. You're just going to sign below. So it's just going to be your name, where you live, and your birthday. And then if you can just fill out the top. This is when if we do decide to make an arrest, if he gets out, you guys will be notified through this when she's As she's released from the jail. >> I think I would know if I have to go pick her up or something. >> Well, if she is arrested, she's not going to be allowed to come to the house. >> For how long? >> That's up to the judge. You have access to your Ring doorbell camera? >> It doesn't really record. >> It doesn't record? >> I'm so bad about connecting the internet. >> Okay. Well, from what she said, she ran out of the house. She looked her upset. That's what we're looking for. Anything crazy that would have happened if the camera picked up screaming, anything like that. >> it's not set up to do any of that. >> I'm concerned that she's gotten to an argument with her mother and that y'all are going to go and probably arrest her based on whatever she wrote. >> Well, based on physical evidence, we have to. And depends on what mom says. >> Okay. >> Obviously, we have to speak to mom. >> I get it. >> Can't just go off of what one person says. >> I understand. >> All right. Any other questions, you can always give us a call, okay? >> Okay. >> While speaking with officers, [music] the mother did not deny that there had been physical interaction, but described the situation from a different perspective. Her daughter had changed significantly and her recent academic performance had declined. In her view, this could be part of adolescence. >> Hello. >> Hey, how are you? >> All right. I'm a deputy from the sheriff's office. Is this Brooke? >> Yep. >> The reason that I'm stopping out with you is I got a report Lydia, I guess some sort of altercation happened back at the house. >> Yes, that's why I was heading to the house right now to meet you guys. >> I got you. Yeah, we're we're coming to talk to you up there, but I guess >> That's fine. Did you guys want to go somewhere to talk about this or >> This is fine. >> Okay. >> What happened? >> Basically, I picked up my daughter to take her to the dentist and if they canceled the appointment, my daughter has been doing a numerous things that we discussed since this morning and that I've asked her and she got disrespectful with me. She called me and she charged me and I tried to hold her down and told her and I screamed in her face and told her, "Please help me. Don't talk to me like this. Like you cannot be disrespectful towards me." And when I got in the shower, she ran out the door and went to I guess the neighbor's house is my understanding. >> All right. >> And I have pictures of all the injuries the one Yeah. If she trying Yep. And I pinned her to the floor and I told her, "Please stop. Please stop." And she tried to hit me again. And then I called my mom, let my mom know that she ran out the house. I called my boyfriend, let them know that she ran out the house. I didn't know at that time that she went to the neighbor's house. But I guess the neighbor is the one who contacted my mom and told her that she contacted you guys. So I just went to my job and I told my job, "Hey, I have an emergency. My daughter and I got into an altercation." And that's why I was leaving my job because >> No, you're okay. It's all good. It's understandable. >> And her father is also aware. They know that she's been an adolescent, so he called me from California and said that he's going to get her in the operating like that's involved. >> And his Ryan? >> Ryan who? >> Ryan, okay. >> Which she was actually flying out next week. >> Oh, uh Lydia's supposed to fly to him? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> summer. >> Oh, yeah. All right. >> So and everybody's very much aware of her grades going and dropping and her attitude changing in the last >> It's so it was just you and Lydia in the house and everything all this stuff happened, right? Are there any cameras in the home? >> No, unfortunately, no. >> Okay. And then like in the past, has any Has she ever like done anything like that to you? >> Yeah. >> Like can you describe any of that to me? >> Same thing. >> Same thing like so Can you tell me like what it is? >> very upset and she gets very emotional and then I tell her, "You can't talk to me like that." >> Yeah. >> She'll talk to me like, "You know how the kids are nowadays? Like >> Yeah, I know. >> Duh duh duh, it's like, "You can't talk to me like that. Like I'm your mom, you know?" And just pretty much telling me that she's going to get me arrested and this and that. And I said, "Well, you can do whatever you have to do. My job is to raise an independent functioning adult, you know?" And I'm trying to teach you manners and respect. And unfortunately, you know, with these kids nowadays, they're so equipped to call the law enforcement the minute that, you know, things don't go their way. I was signed up for flag football. I've had a flag football coach come to my car, tell me how she's acting up the whole time and she's disrespectful. In front of the coach, she was being disrespectful saying, "Oh my god, I didn't do that." That and that, like, you know, drama queen. She's 13. Same thing happened that night. Um she gets mad, disrespectful. She yells at me, calls me A lot of it I think is because there's friction between her and her dad. He was in jail for 10 years. We just did a custody battle. She has to go out there mandatory for 6 weeks, and I don't know if this is leading up to that. I don't know if she's being I don't I don't know like what did she say, you know? I don't really know. She doesn't open up to me, but when it comes down to the >> Is she taking any medications or anything? Is she diagnosed or anything? >> No, I haven't taken her to the doctor for anything. To be honest, I've just been doing trial and error trying to hope that this is just a phase. Everybody tells me that girls go through this phase, so. >> Give me 2 seconds. I want to move my car out of the way, but I can do >> Yeah, no problem. >> Is that a deputy Lucy? He's going to hang tight with you and talk to you a little bit, okay? >> Like everybody's against her, you know? Nobody's for her. So, a lot of it just comes from being spoiled. I mean, this week again, she had a friend over all weekend. She didn't want to hang out with her mom after work, go to the beach. I bought her DoorDash. I bought her things, you know? And she's just becoming really spoiled and thinking that I'm supposed to just let her stay on the internet all day and her crazy whatever they want, and this is it. This is what I'm supposed to deal with. And I told her that's not how it works. >> Do you have any other like marks, injuries from today? >> I just have like I mean, I don't really know. I just know that that's what my boss and them pointed >> Pointed out to you? >> Yeah, that. >> They said there's like scratches on your chest. >> Yeah. >> Right there. >> You know, and uh really I just the pictures I've sent from my coworker. >> Now, I got you. It's still an investigation, right? You're saying she charges you, right? >> Right. >> All right. At point in time, you're just grabbing her to hold her down? >> Yeah, and then she starts uh while I'm grabbing her, she starts >> Okay. Was that like a closed fist? >> Honestly, it happened so fast, and with the scratches, I can't tell you if it was like with my her fist or not. I think it was more so that just like trying to do like this and like just, you know, and trying around. She grabbed my hair like this. She grabbed your hair? hit the wall. Like there's a bunch It was so many different things that happened in the moment and I pinned her down. >> Okay. And where did this whole altercation take place? >> It took place right by the stairs and there's a little area. I don't know what you'd call it, like the front front living room, but it's not >> the >> designed for living. More like a dining room area. >> Okay. So it's closer to the front of the house and like the dining room. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, that's where this took place. >> Yes, sir. >> So you're saying she's charging at you, she pulls your hair, you So you grabbed her by the arms. How do you grab her? >> Honestly, I feel like I can't recall everything at this moment cuz my anxiety is very high. >> That's fine. It's very hot in here. >> So yeah, and I'm just very distraught with the whole thing. But it just happened so fast. >> I got you. >> I just recall at the end me telling her, "You can't disrespect me like this. I'm your mother. >> Okay. >> And if you don't respect me, you're not going to respect anyone in this world." >> Fair enough. >> And I said, you know, I just screamed at her and told her and she's like, "You hate me. You hate me." And I said, "It's not that I hate you. I just don't like your behavior." >> Yeah, yeah. I got you. >> And then when I got up after I went to the shower to get ready for work and then that's when she ran out. >> That's when she ran out. >> Yes, sir. >> I got you. So as far as her, like when she was on the ground, right? Do you remember like the part after that, like the physically like what happened, like you getting up off the ground? >> I like I just said I have very high anxiety to remember everything at this moment. Maybe I sit down and relax a little bit and I can recall exactly every step that you're asking. >> How about this? You How about this? We take 5 minutes, right? Sit in the AC for a little bit. Please don't close the door. We're still in contact with you. Just so she don't do that. >> Yes, sir. >> Think about it for a little bit and I'll come back and talk to you again, okay? Is that okay? All right. I'll be right back. >> The conflict began over a dental appointment [music] and quickly escalated as both sides struggled to remain calm. One was navigating a turbulent age while the other was under emotional strain. >> This is Deputy Joseph. He's the one who's taking a report and conducting the investigation. >> Okay, thank you. Um she was walking a little bit slow to get out of the building and the secretary said, "Oh, she's coming, but she's moving very slow." And she started giving the lady an attitude saying, "I'm not moving slow. What are you talking about?" Blah, blah, blah, like talking back. And so I told her, "You can't do that." We walked out and I said, "You need to go back in there and apologize." Then I asked her whose headset she had. She had a pair of headsets from her friend. said, "These are $100 headsets, Beats. Can you please give them to the lady and have them returned to their owner cuz we can't be responsible for that." So then she scoffed at me. We go to get to the dentist and we're talking about all her responsibilities that she has been doing, brushing her teeth twice a day, making sure, you know, certain things are done and chores around the house, whatever, whatever. We get to the dentist. The dentist said that we don't start till 1:15. I said I have to leave work at 2:00. Is there any way I can get an Uber to bring her home? The dentist said, "No, she can't stay here by herself." So at that point, I rescheduled the appointment for Friday. And then we were still discussing on the way home the different things. When we got home, she started raging out, basically calling me a bunch of different things. She charged me and I just hit it to the floor. All the actions in between I can't 100% explain because it happened so quickly and so fast. So when I got into the shower, she decided to run out the door with no shoes on and now I'm understanding the other side that she went to the neighbor's house and they contacted you guys and here we are. Um I was contacted at work by my mom, that the neighbor contacted her and I was headed home and then that's when they stopped me here, so it's a very stressful and a challenge. I do have both of my kids' parents on the line just so that if we need to, you know, get my kids or whatnot, so we can make arrangements through you guys cuz my mom said that you guys have on her. She did come home from a girl named Johnny's house on Friday with with her Saturday. I'm not quite sure what day it I cuz I've been working nonstop. >> what? Those were >> No, they were horse playing, but I can't tell you exactly everything. I just know that they called me and pretty much she showed me like on her arm and like on her either I don't know what rib or something like that. So, I don't know exactly how the I just told her, "Damn, you and you know, you shouldn't be horse playing like that, you know, to where it's, you know, causing a path, so." And that's basically everything in a nutshell, so. >> And then you said you were you were disciplining her? >> Yeah, I was just telling her that I'm taking her phone away and that's when she charged me because the situation that I was dealing with. >> she charge you exactly? >> Well, at this point they've asked me to remain silent just because I can't recall exactly what happened and then after that because it happened so quickly and I was trying to get to work so I wasn't late. I just started this job. >> So, you don't want to talk to us anymore then? >> I do. I don't want to be disrespectful, but I I don't want to you know, I don't want to feel like I need to, you know, like tell you every I can't recall every scenario that happened at that moment because it's I don't know she was in the moment. And um obviously we're here and this is not a great state of mind. And I mean I'll tell you she's been a straight A student since January. Her grades started slipping in February. She's been hanging around the wrong people. She's been in school suspension over in out of school suspension. The counselor has asked me to contact her. I have contacted her several times, but since the seventh grade counselor is unavailable because the eighth grade counselor passed away, she's taken on two jobs and she hasn't really been able to contact me. So, that's just where I'm I'm at. I know that another thing that's been bothering her is she feels like I'm forcing her to go to California, which she's supposed to leave next Friday to visit her dad. >> For the summer or something? >> For the summer for six weeks and um she's been very angry at me that I have made an agreement with her dad. We went to mediation and he agreed to pay child support. I have to give him time sharing. It just is what it is. He's your father, but he did a 10-year bid and she feels some type of way cuz she hasn't really been in his life or he hasn't been in her life and really messed with all this acting out and changing groups of friends and boyfriends and all these things started going downhill, so >> The mother's challenges [music] may invite understanding, but the law does not allow a child to be placed at risk under the label of discipline. As a result, she must now face the related legal process. >> Okay. >> Can you do me a favor? Can you step out of the vehicle, please? Do me a favor, turn around, place your hands behind >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Is my phone there? >> My car is still on. >> Okay, we'll we'll take care of that. Can you step over here away from the door, okay? >> Okay. And are you arresting me? >> Yes. I'll put this in the cup over here. >> That's fine. Yeah. Can you not do two two times? >> Yep, I'm making sure Yep, I'm making sure I got it. Yeah. Yeah, I'll I'll I'll loosen that up, okay? Mhm. >> Thank you, guys. >> We're going to walk over here to the For what it's worth, we appreciate you. >> No, thank you. Thank you. >> I know it's a crap situation. >> Okay. >> Some people act differently. >> No, I I understand. >> You've been nothing but respectful the whole time. >> I appreciate that. Thank you, guys. >> Awesome. If you want to just do me a favor, you step up here real quick. >> Yes, sir. Thank you, guys, so much. >> Like I said, we're not here to make your day any worse than it already is. >> No, I appreciate it. Thanks, guys. Yeah. Hey, Courtney, it's Brooke. >> Hey, what's going on? >> Hey, I wanted to let you know they did detain me and I'm headed to jail for the night until court in the morning. So, I know I'm off tomorrow, but I know obviously Aca's going to put a flag for me not to be able to work with this type of investigation cuz they are arresting me for Um so, I'm I'll be in touch with you or my attorney will Um I guess by the end of the week or you know, I guess we'll just take it from there. >> Yeah, we are. I'll let you know what's going on, okay? >> Okay, thank you so much, Courtney. I appreciate you. Thank you. >> It's easier to do it here than there. >> I appreciate it. I'm so scared of going in here. >> The mother was charged with child abuse without great bodily In a state like Florida, if convicted, [music] she could face a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and or a $5,000 fine. Children, even during emotional or defiant stages, are still learning to understand the world [music] and manage themselves. They need guidance, patience, and above all, an environment stable enough to grow. Not every 911 call begins with shouting or obvious tension. Sometimes, it stems from quiet fractures in a relationship that is slowly falling apart. >> Can I help you with anything ma'am? >> I can I get a >> for a report? >> Okay, what's going on? >> Uh my wife uh she just hit me. >> Okay, do you need a paramedic? >> No, I'm fine. >> Okay, what's your wife's name? >> Jacqueline. >> Is she intoxicated at all? >> No. >> Does she have any weapons on her? >> No. >> Okay, those are just questions that I have to ask. And is your wife still there? >> Yes, she's still here. >> Okay, I'm going to get someone over there, okay? >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> On January 13th, 2025, police received a call from a husband stating that his wife had acted beyond appropriate boundaries during a dispute. The couple was reportedly in the process of divorce. During such a sensitive period, both materially and emotionally, what consequences might follow from her actions? >> Hi, how's it going on? >> Uh so basically my my my wife she went to my truck for some reason. When she came back, I I asked her for the keys, she punched me, and she pushed my ear. >> Okay, where she at? >> She's right here. >> Hello. >> So he's constantly tracking my truck. We're going through a divorce. >> I'm not tracking your truck. I told you that. >> He told me I was not allowed in my own home. >> But you cannot Jacqueline, you cannot Look at my ear. >> he took my money from my pocket. I was giving him the keys. >> to you separate from her? Anywhere you want to go. >> So I don't know what he's talking about. He saw everything, my son. I did go to his truck, like I said, he's always like tracking my truck, always. >> What's going on? You called, right? >> Yeah. >> What's going on? >> So, basically, she She said, "Look at your ear." Where? >> Yeah. >> Where? >> She She punched me in my ear. She punched me here, and then she punched me in my ear. So, >> what's going on? What happened? >> She went to my truck to to see something, I don't know what, and asked her, "What are you doing in my truck?" So, I'm trying to get the keys, and then she just grabbed me, she punched me right here, she punched me right here. >> While you guys were outside in the truck? >> here. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah, well, she came back >> keys at? >> She had my keys. I'm like, "Give me my keys." She gave me my keys. She hit me right here, and she hit me in my ear. >> Okay. Did that happen right here? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And this is your wife, or who is this? Okay. And you What did she want to do with your truck? >> I don't know. >> You have no idea. Okay. So, what do you want done? >> I want to press charges. >> You want her arrested? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You want to go You'll You'll go up to the station and all that and sign complaints? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You'll be able to go to court and all that. Who is this? Your daughter? >> My daughter. >> Your daughter? Okay. All right. What Did Did you put hands on her at all? Is she going to say that? >> No. >> No. Okay. Do you need an ambulance or anything? >> No, I'm fine. >> No. Okay. Let me talk to her real quick. >> He's supposed to be out of the house to start off. >> We're sorry. We were inside talking to the parties before you got >> know why she's still here. >> Just explain to me what happened today. >> So, he's always tracking my truck, so I went I did want to check his truck. He uses my truck every morning. I don't have a problem with that. And he's always tracking my truck, so I went to check to see if he was tracking my truck, cuz he has trackers, you know? So, that's what I went to check. So, when I came back inside here, he's like, "Give me the key." I was like, "Give him the key." And then he grabbed my money, and I'm like, "Give me my money." And he didn't want to give my money back. So, yeah, I did something, but that's because he had my money. He saw. Like I I didn't get crazy or nothing. >> No, I know, but >> Are you two married? >> Yeah, but the divorce is almost final, and he had left the house >> Until it is final, that that vehicle is both you guys' property. >> Right. So, >> I don't know why he's getting mad that this both of our stuff. Like why is he getting mad cuz I'm going to a truck? First of all, like I said, he tracks me down. I'm tired of him tracking me down. So yeah, it's both of our uh our truck. So I don't know why he's getting mad. >> The wife described the incident from a different perspective. Yet both shared one common point. Each believed they were the one at a disadvantage in the situation. >> So you want to talk to her and tell me what happened? >> I don't know. She said she took the car. She tried to give him the key >> He was driving the car? >> No. She was trying to give him the key. He took the key and I grabbed money. And she tried to get the key >> Yeah, he took my money out of my pocket. >> back. And he pushed me. >> He pushed him? >> Yeah. He just called her a lot of I can't tell what words. >> Yeah. He's He's saying you punched him. >> I didn't >> You Talk talk to me. Don't don't talk to her. Do Just talk Just talk to me. All right? >> Because he took my money out of my pocket. I was coming in here. >> It was in your pants pocket or in your jacket pocket? >> I was going to take out the keys and she >> Where were the keys? >> In my jacket. >> With the money? >> No, I had the money on this side and the keys on this side. And I'm like, wait, I had those bags in my hand. So when I took out the keys, he still came and took my money. Like why is he taking my money out of my pocket? >> Yeah, but you pushed >> Okay, so like he said, it's our both of our trucks. You drive my truck every morning. >> You guys are married, so technically it's it's both your money, it's both your truck, yeah. >> is he getting mad? >> I don't know. >> I don't understand. >> But did you >> He's just mad cuz No, I pushed him because he took my money. He has Right, he has hit me before. I got I got um reports that he has hit me before. >> Yeah. >> And yeah, I dropped the charges >> up Okay. >> Yeah, he was locked up. I dropped him because he don't got papers and you know, my kids. But he shouldn't even be here. He had told his lawyer he had left and he forced his way back in here. The cops came, they took the keys away from him. And I'm still being nice and like >> Can't be nice. But here's the thing, you can't be nice cuz then you get in a situation like this. >> And he's always tracking my truck. That's the thing. And he's always >> going through a divorce or something? >> What? >> Are you guys going through a divorce? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we're getting divorced. >> Yeah, the divorce is it might be um done this month. >> Okay. >> And he knows why we're divorcing. I don't want to say it in front of the kids. >> No, no, you don't have to. That's fine. However, the husband provided additional details to support his account. You guys had a >> She she pushed me I took a picture of it. >> You have a picture? >> Yeah. >> Are you outside at all? >> No, we're over here. I I was trying to take my keys and she pushed me, she punched me, and she punched me right here two times. >> Have you guys had problems before? >> Yeah. >> We've had domestic disputes, too. Yeah, we've had arguments. You guys have your own room for license? Something like that. All right, you're adamant about this? >> Yeah. >> You want to Okay. >> It was this information that led officers to proceed with the wife's temporary detention, casting a heavy atmosphere over the home as the children began to cry and the mother appeared overwhelmed by the situation. >> All right. Well, unfortunately, you said you pushed pushed him, he's saying you punched him. Either way, you're going to have to come with us. All right. >> Can you call my mom? >> Okay. Just make it real quick. Normally, we don't let you get called, we just take you right away, but since you got kids, I ain't trying to fight with you or >> He's just mad cuz >> make a scene in front of the kids, all right? >> mad cuz I'm keeping the house. >> Do you have shoes other than slippers or do you Is that what you want to wear? >> No, let me change. I'mma go I'mma go to the station, Helen. >> Here Here's the thing though, if you change, I have to I have to be at least able to see in to the room. >> Can you call the police? I'mma get locked up. We're not the same person. >> WHAT THE HELL YOU DOING HERE? >> [crying] >> HELLO. >> I LIVE DOWNSTAIRS. >> OKAY. >> Um you could hear everything downstairs and you can always hear how this man is always >> Okay, what are you doing with today? That's it. Are you their family? >> Yes, I live downstairs. >> Okay. Did you have anything to do with this incident today? >> I didn't but I could hear everything. >> Okay. I can see you didn't see anything. We're not going to deal with that. >> But I'm a witness. >> You didn't witness anything, did you? >> I heard everything. >> Okay. You didn't witness anything. I understand what you're saying but you didn't witness anything. >> Here's the thing, she already said that she put hands on him first. >> But for >> That's battery, okay? >> Okay, that's fine. >> So, go ahead and grab some socks and shoes. Yeah. I can explain all that but here's the thing, this this is the the law. I've got no say so. >> Okay, that's fine. >> I can lose my job if I want to. You know, and I'm not trying to do all that. Are are you you said you're family, you got a jacket or can she grab you jacket or do you got a jacket somewhere close? It's pretty cold. >> I'm really cold. >> Well, you can only have one jacket. I mean, you can only so Okay, let me let me see it real quick. You got no knives in here, right? Came into the police department. Here you go. >> You're going to have court tomorrow. >> Did you get my ID VA? >> Adam. I think I got one on me. >> So, in this situation >> You're sure you can't call Robert to let him know? >> You be able to come up to the station in about an hour? >> Okay. >> That's fine. Thanks. >> So, you're going to take your phone, she can take her phone, right? >> She can take it, but she's not going to have access to it. So, it's up to you. >> Hey. >> I think she could always call her phone. >> I just took my phone and everything. >> Okay. You got it? You got everything? >> Yeah. >> All right. Can I invite anybody? >> I'm going to put on my case. >> Okay. Go ahead. Go ahead, step up. Sit down. 2721 can you mail custody? I'm locking them so they don't get tighter on them. I'm going to hold on to you so you don't fall over. What is today, 95? Over to >> That's fine. But, he cheated. >> He was a prostitute to me. >> I I understand that and I'm sympathetic to it, but but you can't you can't place your hands on him even plus even a >> Yeah, but he didn't >> You got it? If you try you you you can defend yourself. >> Right. I could defend myself. I didn't know he was going to put his head to my jacket to get my money. >> All right. Have a seat. >> The next steps were completed with the appropriate authorities in accordance with established procedures. >> All right. Step on out. We'll go over to this elevator, right? Step in. As a 1603 All right. Step into that up right up to that counter right there. >> Here? >> Yep. Yeah, actually slide over right here. Over here is fine. Yep. Perfect. All right. Have a seat back in there. I'll come get you in a little bit, all right? What's up? >> Is that all right? >> Okay. Hey, how are you doing? I'm going to give you this. This is information how to get an order of protection. I just have to give it to you by law, all right? So, just go ahead and read over that when you get a second. And then this, I just need your signature right here and right there. >> Is she going to have court tomorrow? >> No, she'll have to go to court tomorrow. So, yeah, we'll we'll have her till tomorrow until she goes to court and sees a judge. What's that? No, for that one you don't have to be the next one cuz that's just bond court. So, then the one after that, you should get something in the mail telling you when the next court date is. And that's the one >> Is she going to be in for like 2 days or something like that? >> She'll get released tomorrow afternoon sometime. Yeah. All right? All right. >> The mother was charged with domestic Under Illinois law, if convicted, she could face a prison sentence ranging from 1 to 3 years. Some families may appear to be trying, yet inside they have been exhausted for a long time. The decisions shown in this video do not necessarily bring relief.
