I never went to nothing. >> Okay. So, give me permission to look in the bags in the front. During a routine review, multiple shopping bags were found containing a variety of items, [music] including clothing, personal care products, accessories, and handbags, all of which had not completed the standard payment process. >> And Lulu, go to Lulu, too. >> My phone and everything. There's nothing in here. My phone is in the ocean. Ma'am, I'm advising you to stop talking. >> Well, that's dumb then. Why you just >> The matter became more complex when officers [music] discovered an unsuitable item mixed in with a baby's belongings. While the accompanying individual stated she [music] was unaware of its presence. Um, who can pick them up right now? She's saying her mom or her sister. Have them respond right now. Okay. Um yeah, >> we we found some in the baby's back. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Ask her. She's saying that she didn't know about it. >> Okay. >> Who was this person to her? >> Yeah. >> You know, listen. But but with two people talking at the same time doesn't work, right? Can I talk so that way we can get this resolved, right? Okay. >> We'll get the medicine resolved. That's your baby, right? Who is this lady, too? >> That's That's my friend. >> Your friend? >> Yes. Can she just go? >> No, she's not. >> Listen, she's not going anywhere. >> Still nothing. >> Did I say like, "Let me talk and then I'll let you say whatever you need to say." All right. So, that's your friend, your baby, right? That's your son, is it? Okay. >> Okay. >> He's crying right now. >> I I know he's crying. I understand. No. Please. >> Now listen. We'll deal with the medicine in a minute, but you got to listen to me. Okay. >> I just want medicine to come get him. We can get your mom to come pick him up. Okay. And then we'll deal we'll we'll deal with the baby and you say he's got to get medicine, right? >> But can I speak to you, Sergeant? >> You can speak to him all day. And it's not you. >> No, I don't do drugs. But why was she Oh my god. Why was she here? >> Why does she have your baby and not you? >> Because I was inside and he was we the baby was in there with me. >> Where's the stroller? >> And then I came out. I have a stroller. I had I was holding him with the the car seat. >> They over that baby. >> He had a car seat. I was over here with the car seat and then and then I was like I need to go back inside and then I came and then I was like I'm going to come back and then here then then this happened >> and I'm telling you the honest truth. >> Where's your phone? You have a phone? >> No, Griff has it. I'm calling him now. >> He has my wallet, my phone. He dumped everything on my bag. >> I don't even know what else he did. He probably dropped the medicine and everything. >> We We have everything. Don't worry about that. >> Can I get the baby? >> You're handcuffed. So, we're doing a favor and we're holding on right now >> until your mother comes. >> Y'all come here. >> Yeah. >> I'm listening. I just I just don't like when people lie. Cuz you just said you got an abortion, but in there you told me you were pregnant. >> I got an abortion, but what I'm telling you was that Yes, I I I said yeah, I was I just had an abortion. Yes, I was pregnant. I'm just telling you to drop off my stomach. I was You know what? I said it wrong. I was pregnant, but I got an abortion. I meant to say I was pregnant and I got an abortion and you're on my stomach. But this is not mine. Okay. I don't do stuff like that. Okay. That's even my thing. But I didn't want to be Am I going to count? I don't I don't make that decision. >> I just want to see my son, that's all. >> Both women were charged with unlawful theft with total [music] losses exceeding $12,000. At the time the video was released, the case remained under investigation due to prohibited substances [music] involving a child leading to more serious charges. Life's pressures and limited opportunities deserve understanding, [music] but they cannot excuse choices that place others, especially children, at risk. When police temporarily intervened with a 13-year-old boy, it initially appeared to be a routine situation involving a child acting out until they saw firsthand the place he was living in, known as home. On July 20th, 2025, officers responded to a call from the boy's mother regarding concerning behavior. Upon arrival, they found the 13-year-old in a tense verbal exchange with her. To keep the situation calm and prevent further distress, officers briefly separated the boy so everyone could settle. From that moment on, however, the situation began to unfold in an unexpected way. >> Hey, go. >> Y'all need to take him. >> Y'all need to take him. >> Take me. >> Y'all need to get him. >> Y'all need to take him. Take his answer, sir. >> He ain't coming back in this house. >> You start with >> I'm done. Take his ass to jail. You going where you want to be? When I come out. >> Don't do it. Don't do it. >> I got the >> male detain. >> He's the one screaming. I need one of you to stand by with him. >> When you got here, >> he was as soon as you got here. >> Yeah. >> Pulling the kid. >> The mother and son shared very different perspectives, but one thing quickly became evident. There was a deep lack of communication and understanding between them. Y'all taking he ain't coming back to help. >> We'll get there. Can you just tell me what happened? >> Yeah. So, he's been slick out the mouth all day. Real slick, real nasty. You all this stuff. And I tell him to leave me alone. So, I was out here on the bed minding my own business. I want to go cook cookies. So, I sat up there and he going to try to snatch him out of my hand. So then he goes to try to antagonize provoke the situation, sit on the bed. I asked him, "Can you please remove yourself? I don't want to talk to you. Don't need to be around me right now with how you talking to me." I've had multiple issues with him. Put hands on me. He's sitting up there off the bed. I asked him to move and he's not moving. I said, "You need to move from out my premises right now. I don't want to speak to you." So, I pushed him off my bed. He going to turn around, put his phone down, and come and swing on me. And that's when I choked his ass the up because he was pulling my head and trying to still hit me. His stepdad in there right now could be a witness to everything. >> Okay. What's going on with you, man? Why you upset? >> I told her to put my damn shoes down. I tried to grab my basketball shoes to tell her to put her down. She want to push me. So, I put my ass back on her. That's when the fight start happening. >> She you said over some shoes? >> No, it was just me and her. She had to be a chokeo. >> So, did you hit her? >> Yeah, but she touched me first. I didn't try >> What did she do when she touched you? >> I She put my shoes I put my I took my phone in my room. >> You threw your phone in the room and then what? >> Then I went back out there. That's when he her started throwing hands and then she asked me to choke him. >> So, who threw the hands first? >> Her. What did she do? >> Pushed me. And then when I came back out, I I swung on her. >> So she pushed you like telling you to go back to your room or what? >> Like a full push. >> So she just pushed you >> and that irritate irritated me and then after >> So then you just her with your fist. You know your your parents are allowed to do corporal punishment, right? So if they're giving you some kind of guidance and they're telling you, "Hey, stop doing this or go to your room or whatever." >> She didn't she didn't tell me to stop. I think. >> But you said you you just said you guys were verbally arguing and then that's when she pushed you. Just take a deep breath and we'll get everything figured out. >> You see what happened here? >> Oh yeah. I had to hold him in the room. >> You had what? >> I had to hold him in the room. >> Okay. Can you tell me what happened? >> Huh? >> Can you tell me what happened with her? >> She told her to get out of his face. >> Mhm. >> I had to get up and grab him, put him in the room. >> Did you her first? >> I'm not going to touch my child. I'm saying myself. >> He tell you to get out of the face. That's your son or >> that's my physical son. Yes, I carried him for 8 months in one week. Cuddle it don't matter if you that's >> if I tell you to get out of my face and you steady provoking me you and I move you away from me. I ain't on him. I got the right to move him out of my face. >> Yeah. >> So I went to go push him out of my bed and out of my face. He going to buck up to me like he hard and he going to me. So I got him in a cold and I put my hand down his throat and he still tried to on me and pull my help. Even when he was removed from the situation, you can see his room, all the property damage he did a nail and I'm going to have to come out of pocket for he's not coming back here until he learned his lesson. I've tried. >> I've tried. >> No. Can you just raise your right hand for me? >> Yep. >> State your full name and date of birth. >> The mother repeatedly asked officers to take firm measures while officers slowly gained insight into the difficult environment the boy had been living in. Conditions they described [music] as among the most concerning they had encountered. >> So she asked you to feed the cats and you didn't want to. So that kind of started it basically. >> At least you're going to go somewhere a lot cleaner. Okay. I I know you're going to juvie, but just from standing outside, I wouldn't even want to be in there. Okay. So, we're going to get it figured out. >> The house is disgusting. Condition is horrible. Can you fix the stuff? >> Step out real quick. Fix the cops for you. All right. Where is your some more school? >> All right. Just put your arms out like this for me. >> Flip them. Bring a little bit closer. Then show me where you were saying. >> He grabbed you or >> Yeah, he wasing on me and he grabbed me and he grabbed my hair. But that's all from him swinging that swollenness right there. >> Okay. >> There's some red marks. >> Let me see your face. >> Hold on. Sorry. >> Look left. >> Great. >> So, you said he messed up his room, right? >> Yeah. We just moved, but he broke my TV. >> So, I just need to go in there and verify you got electricity, running water, foods. >> You said you have cats. >> Yeah, I got cats. >> I got too much. She kept saying she was going to sell my Xbox, the TV that she bought. And after that, she tried to my shoes that I was going to use for school and then you go in there. >> How long have you been living like that? >> How long have you been living like that? >> Nearly a year. >> Like a year? >> Yeah. I mean, we have >> You got all over your room and stuff. >> Like a lot of I I can't breathe in that house. >> You can take him out of cuffs. Just leave him in the car. I'm going to call s. >> Yeah, bro. Hey, what I seen in there is worst thing I've ever seen. >> So, just stay in the car for us. We'll figure everything out. All right, bud. >> Hey, sir. Can you come over to the seat? I think I'm going to have to arrest both the parents for uh and I haven't looked up exactly charge, but like the housing is disgusting. He's living in like there's all over his room and bed and all over the house. You can smell it from the outside. Okay. He's on the way >> 12. >> So I guess is he's going to be processed. >> Uh yeah, he's doing the investigation. Uh if it's how you guys are saying, then yeah, he'll he'll get taken to Jack. >> When I was younger, it was >> we we'll knock on the door if we need anything else. Let me go see what he has right now. >> Let's go get some cigarettes. So thank you. >> No problem, bro. He's literally >> with no bedding. This room is like like it's inhumane. Just >> like traumatized by what I just seen. I could smell it from the outside. All the >> mom I don't know how he's not covered in bed. Jesus Christ. You might even have animal. >> Three dogs inside of one cage living in As of 10year-old boy that break my heart. >> It's disgusting. I would be losing my mind too, bro. Like you're right living in inhumane condition. There's a bunch of snakes snake crates in his closet stacked up. Warm snakes in it. >> Huh? >> Snakes in there? >> I think so. inside the closet. I'm telling you, it's probably the worst thing I've ever seen. Sorry. Hey, >> so this uh this poor kid, man, he's living in possibly the most inhumane conditions I've ever seen anyone live in. There's in his room there's three dogs inside of a crate. There's right next to his bed. It smells I I couldn't I couldn't. Let's Let's start from the beginning. Call here. >> 3831. He pushed his mother allegedly first. When Mitri got here first, he was already, you know, so active. When I got here, he was already arguing with the mom at the door. Then he came in front of me. So obtained and put him in the car. And both the mom and the stepdad say he started it. So I only really have charges for him >> at this point in time. >> At this point, I have charges. >> How many other kids are in the house? >> Just him. >> Just this kid. >> How old is this kid? >> 13. >> 13. You said there was inside the house. Did you guys collect it? >> No, I mean it's right, but it's like scattered. >> All right, let's take a look real quick. >> The living space was overcrowded, poorly maintained, and filled with safety concerns, including uncontrolled animals, raising serious questions about daily care and supervision. As the situation continued, the stepfather, watching events unfold, openly placed responsibility on the boy. >> Hey, can we step over here real quick? >> Yeah. >> You have some redness on your face. Yeah, that's where where he swung from. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I don't know what else to do, you know? It's it's I had to my son. I don't want it, but you can't keep trying on people. I do what I can. And I know he's a good kid. He got anger issues and he doesn't know how to do it. But you can't on people. >> Yeah. So, let's do this. Uh, we have to do a walk through the house. I know they did that already. Got to do that again. The dogs put up. >> Yeah, they're put up. I do got cats out, though. >> Okay. I'm fine. >> Okay. All right. >> No issues with cats. >> All right. >> Not allergic. >> Okay. Get my phone. I feel like I'm gonna need to make a phone call. >> No, no, no. You're good. >> Where you at? Because I don't know what they trying to do. They got me trying to stay outside. I can't even walk. >> All right. Well, you need to hurry up and come back >> ASAP. >> Just go ahead and stay outside. >> I can't put this back in my house. Why? Why can't I go back? >> Why can't I go in my household, though? >> Just keep it outside. >> I didn't do anything wrong. So, why can't I go in my household? >> Cuz I'm telling you not to. >> Why though? >> Cuz you're being detained right now. >> For what? >> Criminal charges for child. >> For neg? >> Yeah. For what? >> You're not. >> Disgusting in there. >> Okay. I'm not the only person that lives there. >> You said you are. >> Me and him do. And he just got kicked out a week ago. Yeah. >> What? >> Hey, they trying to take me to jail for child. >> So, >> huh? >> Can I talk to you real quick? >> I'm talking to my dad cuz he just told me I'm being detained. So, I just want something to know. >> Okay. Well, no problem. Can you do me a favor? Put out the cigarette. >> Can I finish smoke first before y'all put me in handcuffs? >> Two quick puffs. >> Okay. Deep puffs for me. Okay. >> Cuz DJ going to line him. >> So I I'll explain everything to you. The reason you're being detained and the reason you're going to be placed under arrest for child is because of the living condition. I >> there's food in the house. He has clean clothes. There's water. There's all of that. I need to make sure that my property gets my car gets back here first before anything. >> We will work on that. Perfect. >> I'm going to go ahead and place you in handcuffs. Do me a favor. Put the cigarette out. >> Can I get some pants on? I know. Can y'all pants? >> Not this second. We'll grab them in a second. >> Hey, come on. They're taking me to jail. >> Sir, do me a favor. Just hang out here for a second. >> For child neglect, what's the child neglect? >> Hold on. Hold up. >> What the living conditions of four inside the house. Okay. So, >> he don't clean. >> Well, it's still part of >> when you tell him to clean, he don't clean. >> He's He's a juvenile. >> He can clean, too. If you can eat, you can clean. >> I get that. I understand that. Right. But it's But it's not only hang out by the car. This one right here. The first one. >> Just leave it. It's fine. Just take care of the animals, please. want to walk over. >> The the the actual living room itself is in the same condition as his room. His room isn't great. Okay, the living room is not great. It's hard and I get it, right? Sometimes we're in these predicaments where have the ability necessarily to take care of everything that we like. >> We both work. >> Okay, perfect. All right. But at the end of the day, >> so that's his his job. That's his job to maintain the house, take out the trash. You don't want to do that. >> But at some point, the parents have to step in. You don't do that. You 13. You're a teenager. >> I get that. I get that. But at some point, >> we can't do everything. We tired when we come home. >> Yeah, I get that. But at some point, something has to take place because >> that's why she called out. This the second time he done SW. >> Okay. When we're addressing that, okay, but as we're addressing that, we also have the issue of the the the deplorable living conditions. And I get it, right? Times are tough. He's not listening. >> You don't you want to eat everything. You don't want to clean nothing. You don't want >> at some point, right, for animals, it's more or less because of the animals, right? because there's all over the place and it's dried and it smells like which means the dogs aren't being taken out. >> Yeah, they take out >> but but at some point they're they're urinating and and and defecating inside the house. It's extremely poor healthwise to be breathing all that in. It's not great. >> So, I need it for when I get out for someone with a seat belt right there. >> You can just sit. >> Let's go ahead. We're going to get some information from you real quick. I think I have to talk to her for a second. I think she wants to release everything to you, but let me just confirm with her and then we'll go from there. >> At that point, the boy was no longer able to contain his emotions as feelings he had kept inside for a long time were finally being noticed and taken seriously for the first time. >> Hey, whatever happens today, >> I'm sorry for everything that you've been having to go through. All right? You shouldn't be living that way. And I feel for you. I really do. All right? I'm sorry you had to live that way. All right? this when I was younger like real dad. I'm sorry. All right. Try to get you some help. All right. Whatever happens, get through it. Let's restart over. All right. kid. No, all right, man. So, I just got done speaking with your boyfriend. Okay. Do you want the house to be released to him? >> Yeah. >> Do you want the car to be released to him? >> I got things to him. He got my keys. He >> He's fine with all that. I just want to make sure that you're okay with that because I mean, I ain't got nothing else. That's all I got. So, yeah, he's fine. >> At this point, Julie is to get him out of the house just to get him out. >> Honestly though, I mean, I know it sucks that they got taken too, but go get him in front of the courts with other target. I'll show it to >> Oh, yeah. If it was that bad, you guys in there got a kid just kept that kind of right there. >> He's got no toys. He's got no entertainment. He's got poop on his bed everywhere in his room. He's got snakes living in his closet. It's disgusting, bro. >> It's terrible. It's I wonder why they can't take that guy, too. >> The mother was charged with child. Under Florida law, she could face up to 5 years in prison or probation along with a $5,000 fine. It is hoped that this intervention will give the boy a fresh start, a chance to live in safer, cleaner surroundings, and to develop emotional balance in an environment that truly deserves to be called home. With assistance from staff at the checkout counter, merchandise was able to leave the store without full payment. >> Sometimes he doesn't ring up anything. He'll just ring up one item and board it out. Everything else he would allow her to put back onto the cart and let her walk out. >> On August 9th, 2023, police responded to a call from a grocery store regarding a mother of eight who had been repeatedly linked to incomplete checkout transactions and was reportedly encouraging similar behavior. In the first two months of 2023 alone, the store documented 31 such cases with the total later believed to exceed 40 involving [music] the woman alone with her children and with internal store involvement. >> Times her kids a lot of the times it's just shopping. They would shop and then once they bring it up to the register, she would not scan all the items for her kids or she would void out the entire transaction and allow her kids or herself to walk out with all of the product not paid for. There was 31 instances of that between 6123 through 832. 31 times she did that for totaling 1,48607 of stolen mer. As long as there's items that she did pay for, that's not included in that total. That's just what was not paid for. What he did, there [crying] were four instances where he's on a register and she herself would bring up her merchandise and he would not bring up all of her items. Sometimes he doesn't ring up anything. He would just bring up one item and board it out. Everything else he would allow her to put back onto the cart and let her walk out. She works that correctly. It's four times of that. And all those items that we were able to identify that were not paid for was 27432. All of that happened last month. 74 through 722 was four times with him that he had helped her. >> Okay. And she left. >> You you went her you said, right? >> Can we see the video? >> Sure. ask to have a product. I'll hear you. Make sure that they're in the car and then I'll >> Okay. >> Um, you want to see either one or both? >> Yes. >> So, I have it per day. That's on June 1st through August 3rd. Um, so let's go to we'll go to the first one. I'm going to pull up the other camera because this one she has the merchandise off to the side. This is the overhead camera. These are the items. >> Who came up with the items? >> She wrote the items and but it was sitting there for a while. I only save like a small clip because the the longer the radio, the larger the clip, the larger memory it holds. And so what she does is she only rings up she doesn't ring up I believe it was three items. This these three items. >> Mhm. We um was what was identified that was not run up. That was total 447. When the first time was like small, but as she continually got more comfortable in what she was doing, we started having larger transactions like this one was on 621, $106. I can go to $621. So, this was for other people that she uh she knew. I don't know if it's it's not her daughters, but I know that there are other ones with her daughters, but this one is with other people that she I don't know. So, all of these items were not paid for. >> Oh, I know the little girl. >> Yeah, her mom works here in Seafood. >> So, what she did was she allowed them to ring it up and at the end of it, she voided the entire transaction. Can I see the overhead um computer? I mean camera for this transaction. >> So that's when they come on. The exit doors are over here. I just have this register. Do >> you happen to have any other identifying information for the male? >> He's here. We can do a pistol prank. That's >> he's here. Now, let me see here so I can see what I have on him since he's here. So, we'll know what we're going to do with >> that's my >> Now, when they void something, do they call for a supervisor to override it or do they have the capability to do it themselves? >> Depending on the dollar and on this one, I don't think they do avoid it because he just didn't scan the items. After confirming the reports, officers spoke with a male employee who attributed the issues to carelessness, inexperience, and a lack of awareness of the consequences. >> Hey, how you doing? >> How you doing? >> I'm going have a seat. Okay. >> Yeah. How you doing? What? What's going on? Just so you know, you're not a nurse. I just want to know what's going on. Tell me what happened. >> I made a mistake. >> It's I made a mistake. >> What happened? >> It's not funny. It's just, you know, being young and having an opportunity and just being dumb. And now don't put stuff in jeopardy. Put myself in a position that I don't like to be in. This is embarrassing. But I will go. I ain't going to cry though. I ain't going to cry. We good. You guys are pretty chill. So I'm not really too much nervous no more talking. But at the end of the day, just a mistake and and I'm assuming a proper proceeding is going to happen. That's I don't there's not really much to it. The man told me to write that just I've been sitting back here since then. So >> Oh, I don't know what he writes. I just want to know what's the mistake. Tell me about it. >> Uh they said last month they got me for not scanning like what couple items. But then they wanted me to pinpoint how much of this. I'm like I don't know. Like it wasn't like oh for the whole year I've been here or for 6 months or for 5 months as far as like just a month ago. So it's not a common thing. It's not a normal thing. He told me everybody he talked to about me, they all said the same thing like he's not that type of kid, this that and third and um that's basically where I was at with that situation. Um me and him, we just talked about it and told me to write that and he'll I guess he'll be back and talk to me some more or something like that and I just been waiting since then. That's pretty much the situation at hand. So I'm just waiting to see what what's going to happen. >> What about the items that you didn't scan? What happened to them? >> They up in the air out the store or either put back into go bags. There's a lot of different things we do with items. But then that's another thing he wanted me to like like the things he wanted me to answer are things like a month or two months ago and I'm like hey can barely remember things from last week but I can try my hardest to reach jump all the way back then and tell you the best I can and I don't know if that's really much help but >> No, but you said he told me there's some items that wasn't scanned. >> He wasn't specific. He wasn't specific on any of the stuff like that. Well, he just basically said, "Hey, you've been flagged in the system for this. This is as much this what we got. This is what's going on." But he don't he didn't tell me what items wasn't scanned or nothing like that. He didn't tell me how much or nothing like that. It was just more of a system is reporting you. So, we got to do an investigation into what's going on. And that's where I'm at currently. >> Do you remember any item not being scanned? Do you remember any item was voided or anything like that? >> Yeah. When it comes to voiding, that's common between the cashiers. Like if a customer doesn't want it or if something happens or if a customer already purchased item and they're just exchanging for another or they damaged their item, it's common for them to just here, hey, I I bought this and me being the casher has already seen their face. Once they come up, put it in the back, here go your bag, go about your day because you already purchased the item prior to this interaction. I've seen your receipt. I've seen the whole prior than that, >> right? And I mean, but as far as the store concerned, that's not the correct way to handle things when it comes to that aspect of it. That's pretty much it when it comes to the register. Just I don't really keep track of what goes on. But like I said, just being young, being in a position where you want to be beneficial, you want to be helpful, and it's just not going to >> What do you mean by being helpful? >> No, just in general, like if somebody ask for you, like if you're in a position to to help others, >> do [ __ ] sling. I'm not I'm not I'm not I'm not This is Okay. So, being in a position to help others, me, the person at least the person that I I'm not going to speak for everybody. I'll speak for myself. Being in a position to help others, the person that I am, I would take that opportunity. And this instance, me not considering consequences or what is the actual actions that I'm doing and what it could lead like aspect of it wasn't being processed. And me being so young and being so quick and my 18th birthday, I just went to prom. I just went grab bash. I just graduated. I just came from Orlando as a graduation trip. Like all these things are going on. I'm moving so fast. I'm making a little money from when Dixie and you know everything's going smooth. Nobody's really in my ear telling me nothing. No rights or wrongs. It's just the introduction to adult life and having all that at once. It just didn't end up making the right decision. And it's unfortunate. >> So what's not the right decision? That's why I'm lost. >> The not right decision is allowing whether it's willingly well I can't say unknowingly cuz if that's the case then it's not your fault. But just being true to your morals and not allowing items to walk out the store or being honest and scanning everything and doing things of that nature because that's what it is to be lazy employee. That's somebody sticking to their morals and that's what I mean by doing the right thing and that's the mistake that was made. >> You already know what it is. >> Okay, I'm going to send all everything I have to the state attorney and they're the one who's going to make the decision on on making either making an arrest or not making an arrest. Okay, but this is serious as you know. I have all the videos and the manager is going to send them to me tonight and they can we can move forward with them. >> The woman was brought in for questioning and offered multiple explanations including financial difficulty and a [music] willingness to repay the value of the items. >> No, not right now. Hold on. >> I I was going to make it. >> Can I just make >> What's your name? No ma'am. >> What's your what you did before? >> October 1st 1991. >> You got um what's the date for for 911? >> 91. I remember. Hold on. But you look different, right? >> Yeah. >> I look different. What? I'm just fat as hell. >> No. >> No. Smile. >> You said 101 191. Yeah. >> Yeah, that's me. That's my driver license picture. >> Mhm. You look different though. >> I'm just fat. Stop. >> That's it. >> All right. >> Anything with him? >> Um he said he said if you wanted to go down the list again, he would try. That's where we're at. Just check. Let me Can you have him step outside real quick? Can you hang up real quick? Put your hand. >> Can I use the bathroom first? Use the bathroom. I promise I'm not going to be nasty with you. Okay. >> Oh, is there any way I can talk? >> I'm going to talk to you. I'm not ahead. Okay. >> Go ahead. >> There's ways to do that. >> Okay. All right. I do have to read these this card. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Do you understand? >> Yes, ma'am. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the repres to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any question. Promises to induce you to make any statement. This must be on your own free will. Do you understand? Any statement can and will be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Not anymore. So basically I was helping out corros by they were scanning it. I was putting it in self but just like I told him downstairs everybody does it. When I say everybody does it I mean everybody does it like >> but right now we're here for you. I see the I saw the videos. I saw you walk out with with the cards. We have different occasions, different instance. So I just want to hear from you about your >> some of the stuff I pay for. Right. Well, if we got I got I got everything. I got the receipts. I have several transactions. Several transactions over $1,000. Okay. >> Worth of transactions. So, there are some that was paid for and he already went through that, >> right? >> Remove the one that was paid and the the one that was that was either not scanned or voided have been taken out and the receipt everything is printed. >> Okay. >> I know people go through hard time. >> So, can I just pay them back? >> Unfortunately, they don't. >> No. You know, okay. So, I'm going to type up the paperwork. I'm going to take you with me >> to the bathroom. >> You I'm going to take you to the bathroom, but at my station though. At my station. It's not too far. Okay. >> It's not Okay. Well, can I get handcuffed that? >> No, unfortunately. >> Okay. >> She was formally charged and released [music] after meeting legal conditions. However, similar behavior continued, prompting officers to return and broaden the investigation into the pattern behind the incidents. >> As I told you earlier, I'm Detective Bance. This right here is Detective Moreny. She's lead. This is her investigation. I'm just here to assist her. Okay? >> Whatever. So, she just has some stuff she just want to talk to you about, whatever. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Before we talk to you, we have to read you your rights. We have to make sure you understand them. And then we have to make sure with your rights in mind you agree to speak to us. Okay. Right. >> So that's where we're going to start. Okay. You have the right to remain silent and not to answer any questions. Do you understand? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Do you understand? >> Yes, I do. >> You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? Yes, ma'am. >> Statement. This must be made of your own free will. Do you understand? So, they provided me with videos for all the transactions that they allege. They're not alleging you stole everything. They're alleging that you missed items or voided items. And there was one where it wasn't scanned. I reviewed all the video. >> Okay. >> So, I know what happened. You know what happened. Some items were missed, some were voided. >> And there was a couple that were just voided out completely. >> Mhm. >> But my question is, there was a bunch of kids. They look like kids to me, >> right? that were picking up your groceries for you, >> picking them out, doing what? Helping. >> So, and I noticed in the videos that you said you had eight kids. >> Yes, I have eight. >> How old are they? >> My oldest is 16 and my youngest is 10 months. >> 10 months. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, I assume these are your children because you look like you're familiar with them. They look like they're comfortable and familiar with you, >> right? >> And I have to just confirm that they're children and not involved in any crime because this is I'm not looking at your kids. I'm just looking to identify him. >> Sure. >> Okay. So, the first picture I just That's you, correct? >> You can Yeah. Hello. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And this I think is one of your children. >> Uhhuh. >> What's What's her name? >> This your oldest? >> No. >> Who is that? >> That's a regular customer. >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> Okay. So on July 30th, that customer came in and I forget whether you deleted things off of her receipt or what. So that's not a c that's >> No, that's not one of my children. >> She looks young though. You don't know her? >> I know her, but she's not one of my children. >> Do you know her name? >> I think her name is >> these these two. >> I don't know who this is. >> The little boy. I don't know who that is. >> Okay. So, >> but that's my child. >> Yeah, he was with your child. Who is that? >> I don't know who that is. That's not >> my child. >> See, that's why I'm asking. >> I don't know who that is. >> That's fine. But your other child, what's her name? >> Her name is >> I printed this out, but this is just to show you. See, we're watching you scan the Hershey's bar. You scan it one once, but you're holding two. That's basically what we were looking at. >> It's not the crime of the century. It's not a super big deal, but let me see. Okay, so there's a kid in the cart and then there's this kid >> and that's my son's right. >> And this lady got on the ground to play with your kid. Do you know who she is? I'm just curious. >> That is a That's a child. >> She's a child. >> Yeah. She's a big child. >> Yes. She's She's big as hell. That's a child. >> But not your not yours or not related. Did she's pregnant? >> That's their cousin. >> That's their cousin. >> Yeah. >> What's her name? >> I think her name is >> I don't know her last name. >> But she wasn't with your kids. She just happened to be there. >> She was Yeah. She was playing with them now. >> And this is your time to explain maybe why why it was happening or >> Well, when I first started there, that wasn't my intention. I only got the job because like it was hard for me. Like my car note is 466. I mean 488. My car insurance is $466. My rent is like $900. My light bill run me like $250. My water almost that amount. So it's like it was a lot. So I got a job at Windixie and I started I think it was like my third month. I don't want to say because I've been working there for like 5 months. So I won't I don't I wouldn't want to say 3 months but 3 months in I got close with the the girls that used to work there. So they hooked me on to like what to do when you in you know when you working in selfch checkckout. I got the working in selfch checkout and then you know they were just letting me know like you don't have to you know you just do this and not scan this you know and just void out on the keypad like I didn't know how to do that. I didn't pull it I didn't pull it from nowhere. So obviously it had to be taught to me because I just started working there basically. >> So those girls that uh taught you that they don't work there anymore. >> They still there. >> They're still there. >> Yes. >> And I told Cliff I told corporate because they asked me their names. I gave I gave corporate and Cliff their name. But when I went in when I recently just went in there and talked to Cliff, I think it was like a week ago. >> Uhhuh. >> I asked him. I was like I don't think I don't Nope. Nope. Let me back up. When the officer came in the store when I did my investigation or whatever, the officer came in the store and he was like, "Oh, my boss told me to contact the sheriff's department." So, I was like, "Okay, my AC had went out." So, I was like, "You know, I'll be back. So, let me go run my kids somewhere, so they won't be hiding in the house because it like 80° in my house." So, when I got back, the police was there. They was talking to they was in the back talking to the boy Omari upstairs. So when I went to the back, you know, she asked my name. She put me in handcuffs and the the man from corporate, he was like at the bottom of the step. So I asked him, I was like, "Can I talk to you for a second?" And he was like, "Um, sure." First he didn't want to talk, but also like, you know, she want to talk to you for a second. So he was like, "Sure." So I was like, "I know you here to do a job, don't get me wrong, but if you say you doing a full investigation, you should have nobody up front working. That's I'm just" And he was like, "What did you mean?" I was like, "They taught this to me. they the one taught me how to do it. So, how come you trying to prosecute me but not everybody else that's doing it? And he was like, "Oh, I'm doing investigation. I'm doing investigation." I was like, "Don't don't get me wrong. I know you have a job to do, but you should have did your investigation that same day and you would have had nobody working." >> So, who taught you how to do it? >> Oriana. Oriana taught me how to do it. So I would just, you know, explain to him like, um, Molen does it, but it's not as often as everybody else. >> And just like I said, time got hard, but that wasn't my intention because I did love my job. Like, I did, but that was never my intention. >> Okay. Have any questions? >> The mother of eight was charged with grand theft and [music] sentenced to 3 years of probation for her repeated failure to pay for merchandise. Financial hardship may invite understanding, [music] but repeated dishonest decisions often leave lasting consequences, especially for the next generation. This call raised serious concerns about the behavior of the person behind the wheel. >> I'm just calling in regards to um your call of a reckless driver a couple hours ago. >> Oh, yeah. The girl with the baby. He just kept seeing this white Chevy Cruz, right? I gave the license plate to the 911 operator. >> Yeah. >> And she was just like swerving all over the place. She almost multiple cars. She was like driving around people and then getting right back behind them. Like she just seemed like she was really under the influence. And at one point we even got past her and I rolled down my window and I asked her if she was okay. And I was like, "Do you need me to call you an Uber?" And she's like, "I'm just driving." And then I noticed there was a baby in the back seat like in a car seat. >> On July 15th, 2023, Flaggler County deputies received multiple reports regarding a mother whose driving raised safety concerns. A witness approached the vehicle at a red light and noticed the woman appeared unfocused while a 2-year-old child inside the car was not properly secured. Officers responded quickly and observed the vehicle drifting out [music] of its lane with part of it leaving the roadway. >> Hang on. I was trying to pull over because I had to change my baby's pamper. I was trying to change my baby's pamper and I don't know. I was just trying to pull over to change his pamper and then I thought this was a side road so try to change his pamper and it's not. >> It's way right here. He's checking on him. Okay. >> Okay. >> Where we coming from tonight? >> I'm going to my house but I had to pay change. >> Okay. >> But I thought this was a side road so I can change his paper. >> I got you. >> I thought this was a side road cuz I know I got to change his paper. >> So where are you coming from? I know you said you were going home but where you coming from? Oh, my dad's house. >> Where's your dad at? >> In Tampa. Yeah, I'm I'm trying to move myself cuz I just got to um I live with my mom in um Tampa. So, I'm going there to go get some stuff and change his camera. But I thought this was a side road. The mother was charged with two counts of child without great bodily and one count of DUI. Under Florida law, she could face a maximum penalty [music] of up to 10 years in prison or probation along with fines totaling $10,000. The law exists not only to address poor decisions, but to help prevent them from happening again. It is hoped that moments like this remind people to pause, prioritize safety, and always place a child's well-being above personal reason. Florida had barely recovered from a father's nightmare when in Illinois, a mother turned her arrest into a suffocating chaos. >> My children don't have anybody at home right now. >> On September 6th, 2022, Hinsdale police in Illinois went to a home to serve an arrest warrant on the mother for DUI and a prior warrant for domestic battery. But when they arrived, the mother not only refused to cooperate, she wouldn't get out of the car and kept demanding a lawyer. Hey, step out of the car right now. Get out of the car, >> ma'am. We'll talk about everything, but get out of the car. >> Step out. >> Excuse me. Did somebody say that you could come into our house? >> You don't stop tugging me. >> I'm going to tase you. Seeing the another officer rushed in to assist and that only made the mother grow more aggressive. I told you that we we met you today not because of those warrants. >> That's what he just said. >> That's what you're under arrest for. >> That's what you're under arrest for. When your attorney when you talk to the attorney, we will explain the background if you want us to cuz then maybe he can explain it to you and you'll believe him. >> The next time you think it's okay to roll up and snatch me out of a car. >> I didn't have to if you just got out of the car. >> All you got to do is get out. >> How do you reasonable? >> [ __ ] you, dude. Do you want to wear one shoe? >> We only have one shoe. >> Well, I don't want to lose my one shoe because >> we will inventory it into our evidence. So, it's going to be here. >> You just give it to her or let her take the watch and with her property. Yeah. >> Ready? >> Which car you mine? When [snorts] all these actions take place in [music] front of children, it is no longer just a crime. It also raises questions about a mother's standards and responsibilities in raising her child. Physical are only the tip of the iceberg. The story of this 15year-old girl shows that emotional abuse can haunt far more than wounds. >> I need to put on some clothes. >> That's fine. >> On September 11th, 2022, Sarasota police got an emergency call from a 15year-old. Her father her pulled her hair and nearly [music] killed her for not leaving the car. He has people coming back and forth that try to take over his place. And like I said, this is not a go. You know what I mean? You got a kid. You can't have people around here like that. >> What happened to Maria? >> Yeah. >> Scared. Show them. You called. You're scared. You talk to them. She's having anxiety. She don't want to be here with him. She's terrified to go to the house. >> Where did this go the marathon first? >> Where did it happen at? >> He kept her out at the marathon in the truck all night long. Night before last. And I kept telling him, "Bring her back here. Bring her back here." Now, I'm not her mom, but that's She's like my child, you know. >> Who's her mom? >> He had trust. >> Yeah. >> She's so terrified. I mean, you you called, you got to talk to them. You got to show them. Show them cuz that's the only way things are going to get resolved. That's really what how you feel and it's the truth and you got to speak up. Silence has never heard and you know I never tell you nothing wrong cuz see why he's saying he called cops on me for having you in my car right now. He's sitting there saying he's not home because they're here. See what I'm saying? Just scared. I don't like that. >> He just told me not to tell him nothing about this. He told me not to tell him nothing about this. >> Mhm. But unfortunately, that's that's the situation we need to talk about. >> You have to get some type of information because eventually somebody's going to end up going to jail for them coming out here. Just come over here for me real quick. >> They approached the girl shaken after enduring both physical and emotional. >> When did it happen? >> Yesterday. The night before last. Here. Where were you guys in the car? What? How? What? I said I'm going home. >> He grabbed you by your what? Call your braids. You said >> because you were trying to get out the car. >> Why didn't you call the police after? >> You couldn't. This the first time you can call. >> Yeah, I understand. Where were you staying before? You've been staying here since last time I seen you here. Yeah. What kind of do you have? >> Dad in your face lip. He was in you and stuff like that. You have something on your chest as well. Is that your dad's brother? >> I meant sister. >> No. >> Oh, no. Okay. Okay. >> Beside her, the woman kept testifying, revealing even the father's own confessions to her. >> Did he tell you what he did to her? >> Oh, yeah. >> What did he tell you? >> He told me that he beat up and he damn near He said, "I damn near took her out of here." I said, "Damn near to her." He's like, "Well, not almost, but pretty damn near." He said, "Yeah, I snatched her hair out, you know. He actually verbally admitted it to me just now. I said, "So, if you would take her out, how would you have felt? Because you want her so much around you, but if you take her out, how would you feel?" He's like, "I want to kill you, man. I love my baby." I'm like, "But the truth." But one person she would never. >> So now she doesn't trust me. She's so terrified and all of her to come home cuz she was so terrified. She wanted you threatened me this morning. If I didn't bring her back this morning, he was going to have me arrested. And I said, "How can I get arrested?" He willingly, openly gave her to me yesterday. He brought her to me. >> About what time did he bring her to you yesterday? >> Like 3:00 4 afternoon. >> Afternoon. What did he say when he dropped her off? >> He said, "Keep her. Take her home. Protect her. Wherever I go, if I have to go somewhere, take her with me. Don't leave her alone. You don't trust nobody with her but me." >> Did she show you significant? >> Yeah. She got like a nice little bruise right here on her leg. scratch on her >> bite face on her lip. >> Yeah. >> And she was going to show me something on her chest, but she didn't. >> Okay. Two nights ago, you said. >> Hello. >> Two nights ago. >> Two nights ago. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Behind like the marathon right there. >> Due to the seriousness of the case, police consulted their superiors to decide the next steps. Hey, we're out here on uh 1800 block of 20th Street and 15-year-old female has been abused by her dad physically. Um she's got visible injuries supposedly. I mean, there's a mark on her face supposedly it's from a bite. Um got a her leg, her her lip is and she's supposedly has more on her chest. Happened back behind the marathon night before last. Um, so she's she's in a in a family friend's car and obviously scared at this point. Dad is supposedly inside the house. We haven't made contact with him. He's probably not going to come to the door. Yeah, he's got custody of her. Mother's out of the picture. The Well, the friend of the family said that he he basically admitted admitted to her that he did. He said he said he that he um her hair. So he he admitted to her. She said he did. Uh, no. In a vehicle like he kept like he kept her in in his truck night before last. Um, that's when it happened. I don't I I don't I don't know why it happened. >> Without delay, [snorts] officers rushed to knock on the house where the father was hiding. And of course, he immediately denied all charges to protect himself. >> Well, let's see if he'll come to the door. >> So, we're going to see if he'll come to the door. >> I highly doubt he is. >> What's that? >> Said I highly doubt he is. I'll give her some time to calm down. go down there, get it verified. At that point, we can just take him into custody and take him over to the jail and have him sit there with our preliminary until we can figure out what's going on. We don't have any if there's no issue with that. >> So, let's just do that. Are you good with that? >> Yeah. I'll give Maria a call. Let her know. >> That's what we're going to do. >> That's See if we can get her to calm down. >> That way we can get it locked down right now. Yeah. So, we just here that in the back. So, we'll see. >> I'm going to take her to the hospital. >> Can you stay inside with her? >> Yes. Thank you. >> The father kept causing chaos even as he was led on the way to the station. >> Um, okay. So, at at this point, it looks like the only thing that happened behind the marathon was she tried to get out of the truck and he grabbed her by her hair and pulled her back in. Um, it was hard enough to pull her braids out. Then they went from there up to the Culver's on University. That's where he >> I'm scared, Chris. >> Scared of what? >> I'm scared my baby will get ready, Chris. I for two hours last night. Three hours last night. I don't know how long she was gone, bro. I am so scared right now. >> Scared of what? >> That my daughter's going to mess up. Something's going to happen to her. Chris, >> nothing will happen to her. >> You don't know these like I know these. You don't know these like I know these. What's my charge? >> When I get down there, I'm going to call him and see exactly what it is. >> I'm listening. >> I ain't do nothing wrong, bro. So, just by her word alone and I'm telling you, it's not me as her father, bro. Huh? >> So, let me tell you, >> do that, bro. >> So, listen. Just on her word alone will get is that's what's got you arrested. And it's not like she's just saying that she doesn't have any marks and stuff like that. So, so with that being said, you're going to go to jail. doesn't mean you're gonna be convicted of it because you have to go to court. >> Oh, Chris Mr. Chris my goddamn child. They might these the type of that's over there. >> I told you. Hey >> Chris, you got to go get her. >> She's getting help. There's two officers there right now and my supervisor. >> Can you stop, please? The father was arrested and held on a charge of child neglect without great bodily harm.
