that I just want right up. >> See, that's why I didn't want to meet you. >> I just told you your heads. >> The internet, families, traffic, and familiar homes, places that seem [music] safe can sometimes become the setting for deeply troubling situations. >> I'm worried about my son. Ma'am, >> stop. She got to get out my house. She got to go. >> Okay. How many drinks? And at the edge of those moments, there are always children quietly present, observing, and processing experiences they never asked to be part of. When the law intersects with fatherhood, the line between right and wrong can feel [music] delicate, reminding us that responsibility must always be guided by love. >> What was in my hand? Come on now. >> On April 12th, 2022, a patrol officer encountered a man with a young child in conditions [music] that raised concern. The child was unclean, barefoot, and the car seat appeared unsafe. This immediately prompted worries about the child's well-being and living environment. >> What's going on? >> I'm going back to the house. >> You're going back to the house? >> Yes, ma'am. His car seat broke and where'd you go get cigarettes? >> Well, I mean, I saw him just like sitting there. It's like all funky looking. >> Yes, ma'am. The car seat broke and I just I'm waiting to get paid today to go get him a new one. >> Okay. Do you have your ID on you? >> No, ma'am. >> Do you need water for him or anything? >> No, ma'am. Is there any way I can take >> Well, we'll figure all that out in just a second. >> Hey, Jerry, >> can you stop yelling? >> Oh, sorry. Uh I work right here and I wanted him to come get the baby. >> Okay, just just chill out for just a second. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Oh, see that's why I didn't want to be >> and that is why I was calling I stopped. >> Sorry, Bubba. All right. Oh, Jerry, come get the baby, please. >> 33, can you send me another unit, please? >> Just hang tight for me, please. >> Oh, >> 33. >> The father's unusual behavior along with [music] his refusal to provide identifying information when requested, led the officer to step in and manage the situation, creating a tense atmosphere in front of the child. >> Get up. I'm not doing I'm not doing this. Do not fight me. Do not fight me. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Do not bite me. >> Hey, the baby. Come on. The baby. Ma'am. I'm done. Yes, ma'am. Please. >> What was in my >> 133 by subject had something in his hand and just threw it. I have him in cuffs. He's still resisting. >> I'm not resisting, ma'am. I'm not resisting. Come on now. All right. Yes, ma'am. I'm done. I'm done. >> I got the baby. You just need to chill out. The baby is fine. He's not going anywhere. >> I'm looking at him. Just chill. >> I'm I'm just him going to the road. >> Chill. >> I am chilling. Ma'am, can you please I'm not going to just go get my son. Please get him in your arms. Please, that road is too close for him. Please, ma'am. >> I got him. >> I'm a mom. I know how this works. You chill out. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Stop. >> I'm not resisting, ma'am. Come on, ma'am. >> Stop. My son, please. >> My son. My son. [crying] >> Stop moving. >> Ma'am, I'm not resisting. >> Yeah, you are. >> Look at my son. >> Stop. >> Stop. >> Get on your stomach. >> All right, ma'am. Please. If I get off me, I could help. Help. I'm not resisting. My son, please stop. >> My [screaming] son, please. My son. >> My son. Please, I'm not trying to resist. Please get the baby. >> Please worry about my son. >> I'm not resisting. Officer, >> I'm not resisting. I'm not resisting. >> Relax. Stop moving. >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> I haven't checked any of his stuff. >> Listen to me. Listen to me. I'm going to get you up. >> Yes, sir. >> I don't need you to be I don't need you. >> No, sir. I'm not going to resist. Please, just my son. Please. >> All right. Just relax. You relax. >> Yes, sir. >> We'll go from there. All right. >> All right. >> Oh, I'm not trying to >> I thought you were trying to lift me up. Please get off. Relax. Okay. My hand. Please. Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. >> Yes, sir. >> There you go. >> Just relax. >> Relax. >> I got the baby. >> The child [music] watched with confusion, not understanding what was happening. Officers focused on making sure the child felt [music] supported and not left without care. >> That's fine. >> Hey. >> Hey. Come here. Come here, baby. Come here, boobs. Come here, sweetheart. Come here. >> It's okay. I got you. >> You okay? >> It's okay. >> Have a seat. Don't move. >> I can't feel that hand, sir. >> All right, we're going to work on it. Just relax. >> My name Albert. Can we please loosen this one? I can't feel that hand. Stand by. >> Hey, >> just relax, bro. All right, >> sir. >> Just relax. >> I came out on him because I saw the baby in the car in a really ridiculous situation. So, I checked him. He grabbed something out of his hand. And I said, "Write your name and date of breakdown for me." He goes, "I have warrants." All right, no big deal. But when he has it, sorry. When he was trying to write, I saw something in his hand. It was he tried to throw it and that's why I grabbed him. >> The baby fell out of the car seat >> before I put hands on him. The baby had already fell out of the car seat and I went to go grab him and I saw it in his hand. I was like, "Oh crap." I didn't know if he was going to run on me and leave him or what. And then I tried to put him in cuffs. Got him in cuffs and he It's almost like he was trying to smush something. with his feet here. And so I I took him to the ground. Your last name >> I haven't checked the cigarettes or anything. >> You have uh the baby's mama. >> Yes, sir. >> Where she at? >> Where she at? She's at the house. >> Where at? >> 119. Rachel B. Scott, please. >> All right. What's her name? >> Huh? Her name is Stephanie. >> Stop with your leg straight out in front of you. >> Where? >> And don't move. >> What's her number? >> Huh? I don't have the phone number right now. >> Um it's just right around the corner. Hey Jay. >> Hey. Hey. Lady, please >> don't be yelling. Sorry. >> You don't know her number or anything? >> Uh uh. We just got a new phone. >> No. >> Okay. Does he know Does he know the phone number? >> Nuh-uh. Can I smoke? Can I please a cigarette? >> What's your last name? Not smoke, man. >> What's your last name, bro? >> D U N A M. >> D U N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D D Dunham. >> Yes, sir. >> Can I give my baby a kiss? >> First name? >> No. Give >> First name >> Albert. A L B E R T. >> No. >> Later birth. Date of birth. >> 1993. I'm out on bond for >> Oh, yeah. >> Mhm. >> For what? >> I got arrested and I had some on me and I didn't know. I forgot it was in my backpack. >> Okay. >> So, what have I done wrong at this point in time, sir? Can you tell me? >> Just relax. We We'll explain everything to you. >> Well, can we since we're just sitting here, can you explain what I've done wrong so far? >> Well, I'm not the arresting officer, so just just relax, bro. >> Hey, please can you go grab my lady killing the baby, please? >> Regardless of the legal review, the father's concern was real. He repeatedly expressed worry for his son. But love without preparation and awareness is [music] sometimes not enough to ensure a safe environment. >> Are you mom? >> No. He was fighting me. It's a lot more than just the car seat. >> Just Just go right there on the side of the patrol car. Sergeant Mendoza is over there with the baby. >> Mom, can you tell me please? >> Why are you fighting me? >> Just Just go over there. Just go. Just go over there. Don't worry about it. I I got it. I got it. Just go over there. Come on, baby. Did you know? Did you know he had the baby? >> Yeah, they just went to the store and back. >> Why is he like that? >> Cuz he stayed outside playing all day. All morning. He just went to the store to get some cigarettes coming back cuz I'm clean. I can't watch him clean. He said, "No, cuz I'm clean and he's tearing up." So I sent him outside so he can play and then go to the store to get cigarettes. He's coming back. >> Kenzie, I'm not going to ask you again. Stand right here for me. Okay. >> Yes, sir. Listen, >> what's up? >> I do not have my body camera on me. >> Okay. >> And he keeps reaching for something in his back. >> No, I'm not. Man, come on. >> I'm watching right now. >> Stand up. >> Yes, sir. I I'm trying. I'm trying. I can't even feel my hand, man. >> He's got a broken shoulder. >> Yeah. >> What? It's all broken like it probably fell whenever I knocked him to the ground. >> My hand, dude. I can't feel my hand. Come on now. Hey, give me my cash to my old lady, please. Hey, mama. Come get this cash for me. It's all I got left. Hey, I'm not resisting. Come on now. Please. Can you leave? Hey, man. You know I'm going to No, you're not. Mama, call your daddy. >> There's another one. There's another one in the left bucket. >> There's what? >> Oh, and you said that there was a glass of damn >> whatever that was. >> Shattered. >> Shattered here. One here. There was two on that side. >> That was too much. >> And then the one on the ground. >> Hey, the baby man. >> Hey, I'm not trying. Can you >> I'm going to have to have some uh transport cuz mine don't have the bars on the window if y'all don't mind. >> I'm not resisting or nothing else. I don't mind loosening the cuffs cuz I get it. We were tussling. Just chill out for a second. I get it. We were tussling and the cuffs were really tight. So, as long as you chill for me, I don't have a problem listening. >> I I've been chill. I've been chilling this whole time. I was just worried about my son going to that road. >> Hey, let him get the baby back. Get him off out of here. Please roll some Let my baby go to the house, man. All over the car seat. >> Let them do what they got to do. >> Hey, I'm trying. Is who's the command? Who's uh Ranker out here right now? >> He's right there, please. >> Sir, can I please smoke a cigarette, please? >> No, right now. >> Hey, y'all are taking me in. We all know this. Can I just have my cigarette? >> No. Right now, not right now. That broke down. >> I'm just going to have to stay there until I can get him to over there to get it out. I mean, I can't I mean, I guess I could >> Can I give my family just know before yall take me in, please? >> No, right. Just relax. >> I I know. No, right now. But before >> just just relax, bro. >> Sorry. Hey, I want to tell this was all I was just worried about my son being so close to the road. >> Sir, can I please my family? >> Come on. >> Hey, man. Please, before we leave, can I please get >> I'll think about it. I'm sorry. >> I'm fine. Can I please apologies? >> The situation became more [music] serious when certain prohibited items were discovered in the child's living space. >> What was it? >> It mask. Well, then there was two additional baggies that we just fished out and then the pipe. While I try to pull him over here, when he starts resisting, I was able to get cups on him, but he kept resisting and he kept like smushing his foot in the ground. So, I grabbed his leg and we went to the ground and he kept fighting me. That's the reason he's all cut up. >> I don't know what he was doing. And then they showed up and then some guy pulls up and I don't even know what he's saying. He's yelling at me while I'm fighting this guy and I'm like I don't even know what the hell he's saying. So, what's your name? Stephanie. >> Stephanie. Okay, Stephanie. You have warrants, too. Okay. Given that we have a kid involved in all this, I'm not going to leave the kid without a parent right now. >> Okay. Regardless, it's warrants. Whether the kid was here or not, you were at work or not, you can get taken to jail regardless. Okay. But we're trying to show some empathy and all that right now, especially with him being involved and just saw what he just saw. Okay. >> I understand that. So, >> why did you walk? I was worried about him. The car seat, >> the whole car seat thing. I saw the baby looked really filthy. He had no shoes. >> And I get that, but you know, my job is to make sure that everybody's taken care of and everybody's safe. It doesn't it doesn't help when old boy got in his hands and you got a baby right here. So, I mean, that doesn't help at all. So, nonetheless, he's going to jail. You got warrants. You need to figure that out because well, I didn't take care of it. It's >> Well, no, they're not taking care of. >> Well, my parole officer sent a paperwork to y'all y'all's uh my ex officer sent paperwork to y'all. I was prison charged. >> Well, all I know is it's all class C stuff. So, yeah. A traffic citation. So, you need to get that taken care of. Okay. If I were you, I would get the paperwork myself and go give it to the court myself. I already have it all. Then present it to the court. Nonetheless, he's going to jail. I'm going to go ahead and release the baby to you. Like I said, I don't want the baby to be by himself or anything. So, that's where we're at right now. But, you can go ahead and grab him. If you want to take that stuff with you, take it. But more than likely, possession and resisting at this point. >> Resisting. >> So, uh probably wouldn't put the baby back in that car seat, whatever that is. I'll just have to leave that here for that work. You >> Hey, can you Hey, I want to speak to the rank police. Real fast. I want to give my Please, can I get my son Can I see my son, please? >> Not right now. Hey. >> Hey. >> You're going to give it up to her or you going to? >> Yeah, we can give this can go to him. Go to her. I don't care. >> Frank, please let me give my son a hug. Please. Hey, please. Hey, man. I'm trying to be nice and everything else. Come on now. Oh, you weren't being nice earlier with me. >> Ma'am, I was worried about my son. Please, >> you should have been more worried about him than yours. >> I am. No, I wasn't worried about my son. >> I apologize honestly for all that stuff. >> It's just that road is way more. >> You understand me? >> The father was charged with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Under Ohio law, he could face a sentence ranging from 1 to 5 years in prison. Not every parent begins with ideal [music] circumstances. But a child's safety often rests on simple essentials. A secure car seat, a pair of shoes, and a [music] safe distance from passing vehicles. >> How long has she been here? >> They argued and lost sight of the fact that the baby was alone in the bathtub. On October 14th, 2025, officers responded to a report of a dispute between a 21-year-old mother and another female family member. At the scene, the two adults continued their heated disagreement and tensions rose despite police presence. >> Thank you. She got to go and I want her arrest. She got to get out. >> Police department. >> She got to go. Her got to go here. Move me here. I've been watching her. >> There you go. I'm going to show you my leis. She got to go. >> I like to sit with you living in my home. >> No, you have to come here, right? [laughter] that you got to go. Hold on. >> Wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second. You >> going broke? >> Hey, let's talk. >> She got to get out. I don't know where she going for she say she don't pay no bills she don't do that or that she has to go. >> Can we do a couple things? >> What? >> Can we turn off the phone call so we can talk with you? >> No, this my mama. She got >> you call her back. I got one by her. We're trying to get information from you. >> William Ocean Tomda and I mean Ida two metal initials. my baby soap. So I said I don't like that [ __ ] eat my baby snacks but I don't say >> I can't understand what you say. >> I told her she ate my baby about shouting. You don't need to shout. >> Oh my god. I want her to go. I don't even matter what happened. She She came up underneath me with the so I bust my house. Don't like you in my no like you going to hit me. Who the all she was? I don't know if she scared me but she don't. And I work I the bathroom. She got two over there. I my house because she put her hand up to me. >> So she put her hand up like she was going to put a hot >> I broke that thought she was going with >> it's right here. >> Okay. >> Give her the rest of her [ __ ] I go. >> All right. Hey, what you're not going to do is do that. >> Okay, but you just hit my hat, so you need to chill the out. You understand? >> No, you just hit my hat. >> Come on now. >> Chill out. >> Okay, >> I just told you not. >> But you're throwing it at me. >> PC. All right. >> Girl, you use my feet. [ __ ] get out. Are you >> She's saying >> that it's >> I go to Harland. >> Okay. Because she's trying to hit her with a hot she with a what? >> She tried to raise her hand on me like she used to with the Hong Kong bust ass. Don't raise your hand to me at my house. You threatened that you got to go. Mom trying to talk. >> No, he asked me. She raised her hand at me. I said yes. He asked me a question. >> What's your kiddos? >> I'm sorry. She got to go. I'm going in here no more cuz y'all get big stuff out. [laughter] She can't come back in here. I'm sorry. She cannot. >> Okay. >> That's Hold on. >> She can't come back. >> That's [laughter] going to be something we we can address here in a minute. >> While both were focused on their conflict, a more urgent concern emerged. The young child was upstairs in the bathtub without direct supervision. >> He's he's based on multiple. >> All right. >> How long has you been here? >> May. May 28th to be exact. So based on that, you're going to have to go to a courthouse and actually get an eviction notice. >> No, I don't. >> She has residency. >> She don't she don't have no bills or nothing. She was here on and off. She wasn't living here permanently. It does. >> Yes. She has all her stuff here and it's last night. >> No, >> that in Illinois meets residency requires. >> No, she got to go. I'm going be her ass again. I'm not playing. She got to go. I'm not playing. It's my It's my land on this lease. We got to do Marcy called the house and she can go. I will make that call myself right now. She got to go. She got to go. >> I'm not playing. I don't have to give you. She got to go. She got to go. I for my safety. She got to go. I don't trust her. She got to go. She got to go. >> I gota ask you a couple questions. >> Yeah. I thought I could [ __ ] outside when I was yall leaving on >> besides her raising. >> She threatened that she was going to before she be there. That's why her ass. >> I I got that. >> She was talking to me. She know. >> It's clear to me. I just got to ask her a couple questions. Did she hit push? She raised her hand in me and told her to hit me to me. You my person. I'm not asking that. She never. >> You're not listening to me. >> I fully understand exactly what you told me thus far. What I don't understand and what I'm asking you. Did she you hit you? Kick you. >> Yes. Yes, we she we fought each other. >> I just said we f I mean if I want to hear I was not it's like my god cousin. It's not even my cousin for real. It's like a cousin of two married. That's not even my cousin for real. >> Cousin through marriage right now. >> Yeah. Not she's not my blood at all. We're not no type of kid related. No blood related. >> She been living here. >> She came here. But she been here and she haven't been here every day. Every single day. >> But she's got stuff here. She's staying. Where is she staying? Where she stay? >> Stay downstairs on the couch. >> Okay. All right. >> As the two accounts contain several inconsistencies. Officers relied on observable facts and the unfolding [music] circumstances to make the decision to take the mother into custody. >> What about like DV Sheeting questions? >> Not really. Not not a mess. >> Fresh is 95. >> Yeah, sounds good. All right, turn around. Put your hand on >> for what? >> You're in arrest for >> who? For who? >> For who? What do you mean? >> The best of who? >> She me. She raised her hand at me. >> We're getting conflicting statements. And she's got multiple in. >> She ran up on me. That's what you do when you run up on me, though. >> She's got multiple. >> No, I'm not going like that. She ran up on me and she can't stay in my house. She got to go. I will call to get my baby. My mama know she got to go. >> Who can we call? No, I don't trust my baby to help with her. >> Who can we call >> my mother? She ran up. >> We're not going to be doing that. Go downstairs. >> Cuz she ran up on stairs. >> Go downstairs. >> Fall downstairs, >> girl. You got to get [screaming] out on my plan. >> Got to get out. Got to get out. She got to get out of my house. She got to go. Got to go. I'm not playing. Get [laughter] out of my city. >> We live street. >> 2 hours away. >> Do you have anybody that's closer? >> No, my people don't stay here. >> You don't have anyone else who's >> damn. I just said that. >> Walk this way. >> Why am I getting arrested? Cuz she ran up on me. It's not making no sense to me. >> If you keep on pulling away, you're going to get resisting charges. >> Damn. It's not making no sense to me. Ran up on me in my city. And man, she got my What we come about? She waiting on me. >> I could take her stuck. >> You sure? >> Yeah. Obviously, we just got to figure something out about the child cuz if not, you sure that there's nobody else? Because if not, we're going to have to contact DCFS. >> My mama said she 2 hours away. I got to wait. She might be in my seat. What the he? >> We got to do >> I got to search you and then Officer Zal has got to do. So, face the squad card for me. Make sure you have any pockets or anything. Hello pockets. >> Okay. Nothing tucked anywhere. >> No. >> Go and have a seat. Okay. I'm going to ask you this one more time and I understand you already said no. Are you sure that there's nobody that you could think of to come and at least watch her or do something? >> Wait. I could try. 309. >> Who is this? >> A friend. 309. >> Actually, call my mama back and ask her cuz she call my cousin. >> Your cousin? What is your cousin? >> Yeah, she her name is Mariah Patter. She stay out here, but I don't know if she out here. >> You know her number? >> Well, no. Well, I could try a different number. Say 309. >> Under the law, a person living at the residence may have established tenant rights and asking them to leave typically requires a court process rather than being resolved on scene. This is a common source of confusion in civil disputes and highlights the importance of understanding legal rights and responsibilities. >> We're well I mean I didn't know we had child, but we were calling to see if somebody could come. Unless that's out of the question now because we're doing the child >> scum. That's mom. >> Okay. So, she's from Chicago. >> Yeah, she's coming from up north, two hours away. >> And she's comfortable with somebody, Simon coming to come watch the kid until your roommate's name. >> Okay. So, we're not we're not getting in contact with >> Okay. Well, call my mom. >> I understand that. And your mom's on her way. Can >> No, I'm saying to you tell her to call my cousin. I don't have her number. >> Can stay with her until your mom gets here. >> Your mom's on her way, but she'll be 2 hours. It take that long for her to get down here. >> I don't. >> We don't want to have to call DCFS. Leave her here. Just leave her here. >> You're okay. >> Just leave her here. >> Can get her. If >> my mama can get her from here and tell my mama that when she get her, got to go. I'm not playing. >> Well, so so that's what we're trying to explain to you before has residency. >> No, she don't. >> So even though she's not on the lease, >> she don't pay a bill, ain't got a lease, and put a phone in here. [ __ ] >> Can I explain? Can I explain, please? Even though she doesn't do any of that, she still has residency because she has been staying here. No, when I was in Chicago and I didn't explain that to you if you let me explain it. In the state of Illinois, there is no set thing on residency. It doesn't matter if you're on the lease, doesn't matter if you're not paying a bill, doesn't matter if you're just being a bum, right? She has been staying here, you said since May. All of her stuff is here. She has established residency. >> How long you got to be that time? Yep. There's no set time. >> When someone's been sleeping here for several days or more, when someone's got some possessions here, things like that, can't just kick them out. If they agree to leave, that's fine. They can agree to leave and then you can go your own ways and that's it. Then you don't have to go through the courts if they refuse to leave. >> Well, okay. I'll go to court in the morning. She got to go. Come on. Just come on. >> Well, you're going to you're going to go to court in the morning regardless cuz you have to see a judge. Okay. But I we what we are trying to do is just explain to you that she does have residence. >> Okay. I want everything on my house is missing the go. Her ass getting I'm pressing charges against her gang. When you get out to everything valable in there, my phone, my iPad, everything is in there. >> Okay. If we find her, we can assess her for a baker, but it sounds like she's going to need something more like a marchman act, like an expparte order through the court. Have you ever heard of that? >> Yeah, I mean, I've been mental health professional for a few years, uh, familiar. >> Honestly, if she has a issue, it's really not going to fit the criteria for a baker. is is not the issue, right? The issue is that she's bipolar and she has stopped taking her medication months ago. >> You got home today. The kids were at the house. She tell you she was leaving there. >> No, she texted me asking where our son's remote was for his TV at 8:00. I was at work. I run a restaurant. I responded about an hour and a half later saying that I was I didn't know. Normally, I would have been home probably around like 11 or 12. I just happened to be leaving early and I got home at around 10:00. I walked into the house and the baby was crying. I went into the bedroom son was there trying to console the baby and I said, "Where's mommy?" And he said she I said, "When did she leave?" He said, "I don't know. I am worried that if she were to come back to our house because she's under the influence that because she's off her medication that she might try and start something domestic." >> Okay. >> You know, I I really just want to protect my daughter right now. >> No, I I understand that. >> You want to just take a seat? >> Yes. Police [music] arrived at the residence and gathered information from the stepfather and the children. >> So, I'm just going to swear you in and then you're going to tell me what happened. Put your hand down. Just tell me what happened tonight. >> So, I arrived home around 10:00. >> Around 10:00. >> Entered the apartment, heard the baby, and went into the bedroom, saw the baby was in the crib, and my stepson was trying to console her. Thought maybe, you know, my wife was in the bathroom or something. I got her a bottle and I said, "Where's where's mom?" And he said, "She left." And I said, "Are you sure she's not taking the trash out?" He said, "No, she I said when?" He said, "I don't know." >> At that point, I looked at my text messages. I mean, I normally would be getting home now. It was just happen stance that I was done early. >> Okay. >> Um, >> everything happens for a reason. >> Yeah. Um, the last contact that I had with her was like maybe quarter after 8. She had texted me asking for our son's remote for his TV. >> That's your stepson, right? >> Yeah. I didn't see the text or anything like I >> Yeah, you were busy. >> All of a sudden, you know, I was like getting ready to leave and I responded back to see. >> So, that was at >> that was around like 9:30. >> Okay. >> Right before I got in the car to head home and yeah, like I said, got home, found him. I contacted her sister um >> who's about 2 months ago. She did kind of a similar thing. I had tried to get her into treatment and she AMA from detox um and then I had lined up. I have a friend that was a dual diagnosis facility. She had gotten scholarship in. They were supposed to come and transport her. It was a Sunday morning >> and she didn't. >> She got in the car with a and she drove to Virginia. She had like she's sick. >> And >> Yeah. And she's sick also. So, she had like >> All right. Just raise your right hand. Is everything you told me the truth? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> At this point, um the mental health thing is like the big issue, right? Like I I talked to another deputy or whatever earlier. They were describing the difference between Marchman and Baker and I I was a mental health professional though. I've been saw her for nine years and worked in the industry. So, >> did you have her location correct? >> I do not. >> The sister can I just get her phone number? Not the sister. The your wife. >> Yeah. >> No. Does she usually come home? >> Yeah. I mean, so she she came home February 5th. >> She had been gone, >> but like tonight she come >> She would normally close sneakers and come home probably between 6:00. Let me call this dad. >> Like the last time that she did that, she came home at 7 a.m. and was trying to drive. >> I'm just going to take a picture for her. >> Hi. >> You're so pretty. [laughter] >> There you go. >> They also contacted the biological [music] father of the older child to keep him informed given the seriousness of the situation. >> Hi, this is Deputy Moss of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. How are you? Okay. You have a son also. Correct. Seven. Okay. Now I am being told you got a phone call about him being Okay. Are you at the address >> right now? No, I'm at work. >> All right. So, I'm going to take a sworn statement over the phone cuz obviously you're at work. It's just stating what happened tonight that you received a phone call and all that. >> Yeah. Her husband, he called me. Uh he stated that he got home from work and he observed that both children were home and they were both awake. That's when I, you know, I had him drive my son over to my son's grandmother. >> Okay. Now, have you spoken to your parent who have your child? Now, did they say he had any injury or was this or anything of that nature? >> Well, I did. I spoke to him on the phone. >> Okay. >> Briefly, but he didn't he was talking his normal self. My mom, she would have told me it was of any sort. >> Okay, perfect. So, I just wanted to touch base with you because obviously she is going to be arrested. Do you have a good relationship with the father here? if I if you need anything, I could give you my business card or I could send you a picture of it just in case if you need it. I do have to contact DCF in regards to this obviously. So, they might be reaching out to you, but other than that, that's going to be it for right now. All right. You have any questions? >> Did you find her? >> For right now, she's at the bar. I had to obviously speak to the husband and you before I go over there to make contact with her, but she will be arrested. >> I mean, if she's at the bar, she >> Yeah. tonight or tomorrow or some point, she's going to be arrested. She a pattern of this. >> Obviously, you know how it goes with DCF. So, don't be alarmed when they call you. >> The stepfather expressed concern not only about the children being alone, but also about the possibility of the mother returning while in emotional distress, which could increase risk. >> I am very concerned that she would come back to the house. If you guys made contact and for whatever reason, the assessment was that oh, she's fine. >> So, she's going to be a risk. So even if her assessment is she's there's something off mentally, they could deal with that, but she's still getting arrested for it. She can't children at all. >> You know, his older brother got taken for good. She's already lost custody of him once. >> If she comes back to the house, call us. >> Um, also DCF's going to be notified. Obviously, they're going to call you. Don't be alarmed. It's just I'm sure you could be through this. I'm going to try to make contact with her before she gets home. You don't have like a ring cam or anything to show when she exactly. No, >> she took them all. She disconnected everything. >> And she won't pick up your phone. She usually go to the bar with like friends. >> Yeah. I mean, she has a friend that works there, but like, you [clears throat] know, she came home one night at 7:00 in the morning. She ate a bunch of like another night she came home at like 8:00 in the morning. She's been doing all night. Like I just noticed she zled herself $200 from my account and I an account that doesn't have her name. >> I'm giving you my business card. >> I honestly don't know like whether I should like try and find somebody. >> Do you have family or anything? >> I don't have anybody. >> All right. So I can't tell you that. Obviously she comes home, she can, >> you know, get in cuz it's her residence. Um >> so let's put it this way though. She's not going to know nothing's going on if she comes home. If she comes home, that means we didn't find her yet. She's not aware that you called us, so she shouldn't be aggressive with you. If she does show up, give us a call. You don't have to tell her that you're calling us. If she shows up crazy, though, call 911. >> Most likely, though, she wouldn't know anything. Yeah. >> Yeah. I mean, I'm That sucks, man. We're leaving for you guys. >> We're going to do our best. Luckily, she goes to two regular places. That's how I sounded. >> Investigators located her at a local establishment she was known to visit, but were unable to reach her immediately. >> Hi, how you doing? What's this everybody? Can >> we show you a picture of somebody that we're looking for? >> Feel like I've maybe seen her walk around outside. >> Could you tell us maybe how long ago? >> Kind of like one of like little walkers around here. I don't know. Does >> Okay. >> Does she work around here or >> No, she lives out. So, got a question for you. >> Are your receipts like if somebody charges a credit card, does she have a name on it? >> Just for that once they're badged, they go into like a what what time period are they? >> The last 354 minutes. Oh, no. >> This is the only room that's been I've had the door locked until like right now. >> Thank you, man. Appreciate you. >> After nearly 2 hours of searching, officers found the mother, who appeared impaired, accompanied by an unidentified individual. Authorities also noted items in her possession that required further investigation. >> Coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. You're okay. Keep coming. What's happening? >> You're okay. Keep coming back towards us. Come over to the right. To the right. Yeah. >> You got anything on you? >> No. >> All right. You're being arrested. >> Why? >> Try on the No needles. >> No. >> Can you come up against your car? I'll explain everything to you. >> Okay. You have anything in your bra? Who is this guy? Who is the guy that you're with? >> A friend of mine. >> What's going on? Place you in my car and I will speak to you. Take a seat. I'm going to read you your Miranda. Okay. I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional right to remain silent, not answer any questions. Do you understand? You have to say yes or no for my camera. >> What? >> I don't have the keys are over there. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Do you understand? You got to speak up. Presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? You're entitled to the presence and representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement during any questioning. Do you understand? >> No. Okay. >> I lock the doors. Um >> yeah, that's perfect. I just want to make sure there's nothing left because she is a known user. So, I just want to make sure before I What? >> Did you search this already? >> No, I just searched her right now. >> I don't know. We let him go. >> Look at this. >> The following day, officers spoke with the children to help them express their experience, [music] reinforce safety awareness, and ensure they receive proper support. >> I just want to talk to you. Okay. You want to sit? You know you're not in trouble, right? >> Yeah. >> Are you scared? >> No. >> You nervous right now? >> No. >> Good. You're brave for coming to talk to me. Do you know what the difference is between a truth and a lie? All right, so if I said I'm wearing purple right now, would that be a truth or a lie? >> Either. >> What color am I wearing? >> Black. >> All right, good point. What color is my shirt right here? >> Green. >> Green. All right, so is that the truth? >> No. >> No, it's not the truth. All right, what color is this wall? >> Green. >> That's green, right? So that you're not making that up, right? That's true. You were at mommy's yesterday. >> Yeah. >> You think so? Yeah. You have a little sister? You like having a little sister? >> Kind of. >> Kind of. You're a big brother. That's exciting. So, what happened at mommy's? >> She was like going to somewhere. I was by myself. >> Do you know how long you were by for? It's okay if you don't know. >> I mean 30 minutes or an hour or something? >> 30 minutes or an hour? What did you do when mommy left? Played games? Did you eat dinner before mommy left? >> Yes. >> What' you eat? >> Chicken nuggets. >> Did mommy tell you where she was going? >> No. And then your stepdad came. >> Yeah. >> Then what? >> I went to my grandma's house. >> You went to your grandma's house? Your stepdad brought you. Were you scared when mommy left? No. You were able to take care of yourself. That's it. I'm done. Do you have any questions for me? >> No. >> You're really brave. You're a great big brother. You got a good dad here. I'll talk to you without him. >> Okay. So, if you want I'll go outside. Do you want to stay here? >> Can you wait here? >> Yeah, sure. >> Okay. >> Stay. Sorry for making you come out. I just have to get on camera that obviously I know she but it just solidifies it even more for the court, >> right? >> Um she was arrested last night. I arrested her at the bar. >> That's what >> Yeah. So she got arrested. Most likely what will happen is there's going to be some court some kind of court order >> prohibiting her from the children. I mean obviously DCF will talk to you, courts will talk to you, and you guys can from there. That's up to you guys. But usually, for the most part, the court automatically puts that in place. Well, it's crazy. She been through like the same exact thing. >> Yeah, she was with me. Was it with him? >> Well, he was like technically involved, but he was with me at the time, but he was with his with her other son. >> And he stays with you primarily for the most part. All right. >> Not lately. He'd been with her for a couple days. >> Do you have any questions? You have my number >> and I really appreciate you coming out again. Sorry to make you drive all the way out here. >> No. >> You going to grandma's tonight? >> I don't know. >> Yeah. You'll have fun with grandma and grandpa. Thank you so much. Again, you have my number if you need anything. Okay. The mother faced two counts of childact with penalties in Florida of up to 10 years in prison or probation plus a $10,000 fine. Protecting children is always a priority and coordinated efforts between families, [music] communities, law enforcement, and mental health professionals play a vital role in safeguarding children. A man in Georgia found himself in conflict with his family after repeatedly defending his wife's concerning behavior. >> You're protecting her and I'm tired of it. >> Let's find Hold on a minute. Hold on a minute. We're going to separate. >> You're protecting her and you always do. >> On June 15th, 2024, Georgia police received a call regarding a domestic dispute. The mother appeared to be under heavy stress and struggling emotionally, raising concerns about the children's safety. Officers responded to ensure everyone's well-being. >> Hold on a minute. Turn around. Face away from me. >> That's what they want. They want to go to jail. >> Stop. Put your hands behind your back. Listen, you're not under arrest. I'm just detaining you for right now. Okay. They want me under arrest. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to detain you just for now. >> I'm just trying to get my children to >> I know. Just hang tight. Is that your babies? Yeah. >> Where are they? Are inside? >> I don't know because they won't let me know. >> Hang on one second. >> Because my daughter cried for me. She's not a >> How did you get here? >> I drove myself in this truck. The Chevrolet truck. >> I've got a picture of your foot. >> How uh >> It was hours ago. It was probably around like 3:00. My boyfriend, the father of my children, was golf balling and I came here to his mother's house. >> Hang on. Don't Uhuh. Don't move. >> Don't move. I know. I'm sorry. >> Tell me your name. >> Abby. She naked. >> Abby, I'm Deputy Saledo. Okay. I'm going to go put you in my patrol vehicle. Okay. Like I said, you're not under arrest. You're just detained for now. Okay. I'm going to go ahead and buckle you. Okay. >> Okay. >> What happened to your leg? >> I don't know. I got the out of my boyfriend's sister. My eye. I don't know if you see my eye. >> A little bit. Yeah. Open your eyes. Let me see. How much have you had to drink tonight? >> Like two of Trulies. Two Trulies. >> Two Trulies. Okay. Do me a favor that [clears throat] way. I'm just going to buckle you. Okay. No, you don't have to apologize to me. I'm just I'm just out here. They Y'all called me. You got some on you. Is that from you? >> From my eye. >> From your eye. >> Yeah. Okay. Just hang tight here. Okay. >> Police gathered information from family members while ensuring the mother's rights and safety, preventing the situation [music] from escalating. >> Hi. >> Okay. I'm good. Okay. So, can I talk to whoever called 911? >> Okay. I'm Deputy Saledo with the sheriff's office. Tell me what happened. >> Well, that's my daughter-in-law. Okay. >> Um, we were all playing golf. She came over here to meet us after golf. We had swimming in the pool with the kids and everything. Obviously, we were having I had we all had a few trollies and stuff. My son was talking about something about women and she just flipped her red. >> So, was this your son? That's >> That's my son right there. >> Okay. Is he >> That's the dad of both of them. >> Have they ever Have you all ever been married? >> No. >> Okay. So, is it just boyfriend and girlfriend and have a child with the same >> for 10 years and she just flips when once she flips you can't you can't change her. >> She's ready to go. >> I I've tried tried to respond. Tell her she can't drive. Ready to go meaning leave the house or fight? >> She's ready to go home and we've been obviously been drinking by the pool here. Tried to be responsible. Hey, like let's wait. try to sober up a little bit and you know she's struggled in the past with you know triggers and stuff like that and something must have triggered her with the intoxic with with the alcohol. >> I gota >> she's a great person. She's beautiful. She's having obviously an episode right now. >> Hang on one second. Let me >> have no regular >> I left the window down for her so she could get some air. Let me go roll that window up. What's going on? >> I just need some air. >> I did give you air. That's why I rolled your window down. >> I need like AC air. >> Okay, I can do that. Sorry. >> You're fine. Uh, we'll get you some AC. Okay. I need you to breathe in through your nose out through your mouth. You're having an anxiety attack. Do you need me to call an ambulance to come check you out? I'm sure. >> I have these all the time. >> Okay. >> I use these AC. Thank you. I'm so sorry. >> I got you some AC. Okay. Listen, whatever you do to help with the anxiety, just do that. Okay. There you go. >> Her boyfriend offered a statement that partially supported the [music] mother, but officers noticed certain physical details that did not completely match what he described. If I can get a hold of her parents, maybe they can come take her. Maybe >> I need to figure out, right? I need to figure out what happened exactly and if the child was present when it happened. I need to figure out all of those things. >> Bakered a few times. >> Bakered and that's in Florida, right? >> Is that in Florida or here as well? >> Oh, here. >> Here. Okay. >> Yeah. Both both children were inside when she started her episode and then >> she attempted to get them in the truck and we stopped it and that's kind of what escalated it. So, she was never in front of a kid. >> What exactly happened? cuz I know that she hitting you at one point. She hit any of the kids. >> No, she didn't hit anybody. It was just simply her wanting her kids and feeling like we were stopping her from having her kids. But but realistically, it was she's just having an episode. We've been drinking obviously by my mom's pool back in the backyard. And um obviously we don't want to drink and drop. So just we're simply just my my father-in-law kids. >> Mommy's stepping in here. You're protecting her and I'm tired of it. >> That's fine. Hold on. Hold on a minute. Hold on a minute. We're going to separate. You're protecting her and you always do. >> Hold on a minute. Hold on a minute. Tell me your name is the most reasonable way possible. >> Tell me your name. >> I'm going to come. I'll go inside and talk to her in just a minute. Okay. If you'll do me a favor, just keep her inside. >> It did get escalated. >> I'll be right in there to talk to you. Okay. >> Obvious. I'm okay. Thank you, though. >> Situation got escalated. Obviously, women >> my mom got involved. It was It was a little heated. She's having an episode. >> We got the kids out of the situation. They were in the truck. We got them out of the truck. She's not a person. to just having an effort. >> She's screaming. Is she in the car? >> Yeah, she is. I blasted the AC for her. Roll the windows up. >> She's just not herself right now. Kids inside. She hasn't hurt anybody. She obviously needs help. So, we What's the next step? What do we do? Do I call her parents? Do they come get her? >> Not Not right now. So, um do you have your ID on you? Make sure that you don't have any or anything like that. >> Yeah, no problem at all. >> On that side, is that from her or you? >> Dude, honestly, >> your neck is pretty red. Is it a little red? >> Can you point her shirt down just a little bit? Did she hit you on your neck at any point? Um, light shove, just simple argument, you know, nothing nothing more than just >> you got some redness right there. >> Yeah, just just a little redness. Nothing bothering. >> The mother remained in the car and [music] was initially hesitant to communicate, which added to the tension at the scene. >> Hey, Abby. Abby, what's going on? >> I'm Do you want me to get a med unit? >> I can't breathe. >> Do you want me to get a med unit to come check you out? >> I just can't I don't want the door shut. I'm >> They're just going to come check you out. You want You want them to? Oh, it's going to cost me a fortune. I I just can't. The doors can't be shut. Abby, listen. Shut. Listen. It's not going to cost you anything for them to come check you out. Do you want them to? >> No, please. >> Okay. Well, I need you to wait here and I need you to quit screaming. Okay. I have to shut the door. >> Fine. Please like the I can't >> I understand, [laughter] but I have to keep it shut. I can't leave it open. >> They call the medic. I can't. I can't. I can't. I I can't. >> Abby, how old are you? I'm 20 29. >> I think she's slimming her head though. >> I mean, I've got FBA. >> Okay. >> I've got battery FBA, I think. Yeah, cuz he had some right here and on his neck. I just need to add the to the third with the baby. >> I'll stay here for the >> I'm going to leave it alone, please. >> That's fine. >> Officers approached to speak with her in a calm manner, and their brief interaction indicated she was under significant stress. >> You need to chill out. Stop. >> Stop. Act like a grown-up. Put your feet down. >> Please don't shut the door. Please. >> You need to chill out. >> Please don't shut the door. Like, I can't breathe when the door shuts. Please, I'm begging you. I'm not trying to act like a child. I genuinely can't breathe when the door. [laughter] >> How do you drive a car then? >> Like a normal person with noting cuffs on my back of my hand. >> So, what's got the door? >> I can't breathe. >> You need to just take deep breaths and calm down. >> I can't. I can't. Never been in this situation before. two little girls that depend on me. >> I'm not trying to be dramatic, please. I have two little girls that depend on me. Mercedious with how I am. It's not fair that my my boyfriend's family doesn't like me. There's a whole team against me and my kids who can't even speak for themselves. I'm not a bad mom. I have been taking my care of my kids while their father has been doing whatever the heing wants for the last year and isn't until the last couple of months. I hadn't been so tired of being hit. >> I should have just stayed a single mom at my parents house. Do everything for my kids while my boyfriend just sits on his >> statements from [music] other family members provided additional context emphasizing the importance of emotional control and maintaining [music] a safe and responsible environment for children. >> They were in the back. Anna started talking about cuz they've been split up for a little bit. um they've been together for 10 years, but off and on because of her condition. They just got back together and moved back in together. And he was talking about girls that he's dated like how women some women without children and some women that how you could tell and she just flipped out flipped out like that trigger and she came out here started grabbing the kids from the house started loading the kids up. We thought we she just came in the house and then that's when my daughter was like she's loading the kids up in the car like she's leaving. And I was like, "She is not leaving. She's been drinking. She's not leaving with the kids." So my husband, that's when we were out here and she was screaming, yelling about she was get she got into the driver's seat and he went and ripped the keys out of the car. And then that's when she came out screaming, went after him. She was on the floor. Yeah. Went after him. Um saying that she is he he's not going to take the keys from her. She's bringing her kids home. And that's when my son came out and said, "Abby, we can't not drive. We're drinking. and we cannot drive. I said, "You're not leaving my house drinking with those babies. You're not doing it." She was like, "Don't you tell me what we're doing." And went off and that's where it just >> Aaron, if you'll do me a favor, just stay inside. Okay. >> Okay. >> And that's where it just escalated to where he came out and tell told her we're not leaving. And she just went off. She was him screaming and yelling in front of the kids. The kids were screaming and crying in the car. Next minute I know she's coming out with a knife. Started coming after my daughter. Was it Was it like a kitchen knife or a pocket knife? >> It's a construction. >> He had He took it inside. >> I don't know if you want to go get it. >> Give it to Aaron. >> You want me to go get it? >> Yeah, if you don't mind. And who did she come after with that? >> She was coming after my daughter and that's when it kind of got a little in the yard and she was like trying to calm her down and was in the yard trying to calm her down. >> Who got the away from you? >> Um I don't even remember like who got the away from her. All I know is she said, "I have a knife." And then >> it was escalating in the yard. >> She was pretty much just running up the yard right here with a Whenever she got to about right here, >> you lost. >> She saw the She just she like barely >> I never saw that. I actually heard her say, "I have going to you know." >> Yeah. Absolutely. >> That's what she did. And then the flew I told her to stop. She stopped and moved to the side and then she came up here and was screaming >> and then I picked up. >> Okay. >> Notably, there may have been previous concerns [music] involving the family which officers considered during their response. >> How did you feel when she was running towards you? >> All I heard honestly was I have a kind of just put her to the ground. >> You did and I was like you need to stop and hold her there. She kept getting back up and I was trying to hold her there again and I never saw the I I did I know that they had she had but I never was like I never saw it. >> So you just reacted really and got her to the ground. >> All I heard was so was my reaction. >> I'm pretty sure that protecting her. He's protecting her. I got mad. I'm sorry. No, no, I understand because he protects her all the time and it's time it's time for her to get in trouble for what she does. >> He has gone through this so many times. She has crap out of him so many times and I'm just done with it. I'm done. >> This is the first time that I've like witnessed it, but I've heard about it a lot. >> What kind of man would I be to let him leave? >> That's construction. >> Even if I let >> No, you couldn't. No, y'all did y'all did everything correct. She walked back to the car with the youngest and I was the only one that walked out there with her. >> Yeah. >> And I was like, "Abby, like, what are you doing?" And I was on the opposite end of her and she was putting the youngest in the car. Yeah. >> I was like, "What are you doing?" And right when she looked at me and her eyes were like, >> I was like, "Oh, yeah." >> She just she just gets really like she's not there when this stuff like this happens. >> Stop. You don't tell me what to do. She's faced with you coming up. And that was it. >> She played faith. Don't trust her. >> I got you. >> No, that was it. Like >> I've seen her in in the car. She Okay. >> So, >> further details were collected to help officers [music] reach a fair and lawful decision. >> So, she just kept on going. Babies were screaming, crying in the car the whole time I was on dispatch. Have you all checked on them? Are they okay? Are they at all? >> No. She would never do anything to hurt them. I'm going to go ahead and tell you that she is going to go to jail tonight for battery FBA against your son. There's no option for that. Cruelty to the third for both children. So, two counts on that. And for you, did you in any way, shape, or form feel like you were in danger or your life was in danger when she came at you with that? And did you want to press charges? >> Honestly, it depends. >> And it's totally your choice. >> Charges. Did both people go to jail? Like, is it like >> No, she by her. I mean, I don't feel >> there's no reason to press charges, >> but I just feel like when she came towards my family and said she had, I felt like I had to do what I did. >> Yeah. So, just to be clear, you don't want to press charges. >> What about you, sir? I know that she came after you at one point. >> Well, because I grabbed the keys, >> right? >> I mean, no. Like I said, what what kind of man was I going to be if I let her drive? He had the car cranked up. Cranked up. It was reactive. >> It was started. So, I'm not going to press any charges. Okay. >> She's a good mom. She really is a good mom. >> She's not going to leave drunk. >> I feel like something has to happen for her to open her eyes and get on medication because they've already put her on medication and she won't freaking take it. >> And if she left with those babies tonight and Aaron didn't go with her because she was drinking it would have been frantic and she would have crashed. >> She would have she was I mean she's she's drunk. Despite the tension, the mother [music] continued to express love and concern for her child, reminding viewers that stress and emotional pressure can sometimes cause people to lose control. >> I love my children so I don't think anyone's saying you don't. I don't even know what happened. I just pulled up with my partner. So, just keep breathing and calming down for me. >> I just can't be in closed spaces with me. >> And for the last year, I have been at my family's house with my children-in-law. He does whatever he wants to do. Finally, I was so tired of being a single mom and I love him. But he does not love me the same. So, I'm hearing this. I don't This is the [ __ ] out of me tonight. Do you see my eye? I don't know if you can see my eye. I have never been beat up before. I've never been in a cop before. Like I like I was a teacher. Like I And that's not a facade. And like I feel like a mama bear that just wants to Oh, this so bad. Please anyway just to like like I don't know. I'm not trying to escape. I've really never been in this position before except for the first time I smoked pot when I was 15 years old. What was best for my children? I just wanted to go home so they could sleep in their own beds instead of sleeping at their drunking meies out. >> What was your name again? >> Abby. >> Abby. This is Abby. She's complaining of a panic attack. >> My head hurt >> really bad. I got the You can't see it and I can't show you and I'm a snotty and I apologize for that. >> You ever had something like this happen before, Abby? >> No, I have children. I don't do anything. I don't I just wanted to get home with my kids and obviously I'm not able to drive. So, my family thought this was a better solution. >> I'm so sorry. I think my TV is not like super right. >> You're right or my right? >> Wait, my right. >> No, no, no, no. Good. O2's good. I mean, I don't see any pressure issue right now. >> Sounds good. Okay. >> I don't think anybody does. I hope you're there. Officers stayed professional, [music] separated those involved, and prevented the situation from escalating further. >> My yellow lab's right there, but she's >> just there's a horse down there. >> I won't go down there. >> Hi. >> She's blind. >> Hi, baby. Come on. Let's go. Hi. >> So, I'm understanding correctly. Everything happened by the truck, right? >> Correct. >> Is that where she was scrubbing on you and >> Yeah. I mean, she was trying to get her kids home and was obviously out of sorts, >> right? And are they okay? >> They're fine. They don't. >> None of them are. >> Absolutely not. >> You know what's really funny is that my boyfriend's sister gets to leave here drunk all theing time, which I don't condone any of it. Glad that they stopped me because I wouldn't have wanted anything to happen to mying girls or me because they can't live without me. But I just think it's funny that they would go to this length for me to not get in a car but for their own daughter who drives drunk all the time. I just have to let go of some anguish which is not your problem or your you know but thank you for listening even if you're not listening. >> I'm listening. >> They used calming techniques [music] such as controlled breathing and giving space to help the mother regain emotional control. >> Jesus. I'm going to go back and give these to >> we just have to cut these off of them >> in front each of them. >> Thank you. >> Just call the jail probably tomorrow morning. >> Yeah. >> And go from there. >> Thank you. >> Y'all take care. >> All right. Have a great day. Be safe. >> I don't know, but honestly, I would much rather be taken than have to stay here. >> So, what happened tonight? >> We were drinking. And usually this happens like every weekend. We always all come over here, hang out by the pool. We drink. Everybody starts to leave and usually Aaron, my boyfriend, the husband or the father of my children, is usually on my side with us leaving at the same time. The sister started to get a little nasty with me. So, I just walked away and I started to load my kids, which I understand I should not be driving. I get that 100%. I honestly don't know what happened after that. I lo my kids. Next thing I knew, I was on the ground. My boyfriend's family is biting me, which is un unlike them because like I said, his sister drives leaves here all the time drunk as [ __ ] which I don't condone that whatsoever. And I'm so glad I did not leave here drunk. But this has never happened. It's never they've never called the cops on on her. Sorry, I'm being drama. >> You're fine. I get in. All right. So, I'm going to go ahead and tell you you are going you are under arrest at this time for battery FBA and two counts of children. I'm going to get to children in the third because your babies were present. Three counts. Okay. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. It doesn't mean that you hurt them. Just means that they were present. Okay. Okay. >> Okay. Okay. We're going to go to the jail in just a few minutes. Okay. Ready? I'm going to look for you. Okay. >> Yes. Thank you. >> I have my shoes. And you're just going to go straight ahead to that green door right there. The mother faced [music] charges of FBA battery and to children with Georgia law prescribing two to 15 years in prison. Timely intervention shows the important role of the community in protecting children, [music] demonstrating that law, compassion, and education can work together to handle tense situations safely and appropriately. When police showed up at her workplace, the mother had no idea that an action she saw as teaching her child could change her life. Hey, Miss Young here say police. You have any idea why I would be here? >> I'm sure about what's going here to tell me what what's going on or what happened? >> We we were just arguing. Got into a verbal argument. She's up in my face screaming at me. If you this, a few that. You're not going to tell me what the f I can do and what I can't do. She's mad cuz I told her she couldn't go to her boyfriend's house anymore because when she went, she never came home. Came home 5:30 in the morning. And then tries to tell me that she did nothing wrong. She just fell asleep and over it. No ma'am, we're not going to act like this. You're not going to do that. You're going to talk to me like that. She gets in my face, refuses to go back to her room, puts her hand up like this, like she's going, "Go to your room." Continues to get up my face even more. Like her nose is touching mine, and screaming, "Fuck you. You're not going to tell me what the [ __ ] to do." So, I her in the mouth. I sure did. My kids not going to talk to me like that. >> On August 11th, 2024, police responded to a report of a family dispute involving a mother and her 17-year-old daughter. They first went to the mother's workplace to clarify the situation, then returned home to take the daughter's statement. What began as a family conflict escalated into a case requiring legal intervention. >> She was already upset at me because I had been involved with friends all day. She claimed that I didn't tell her any of the plans, which I did, but that's beside the point. So, she was already in a bad mood. And then, um, my friends both left the house that night. And then she asked me to go find her a wireless charger. She wanted to go downstairs and get the one for my grandmother. And I told her, "Hang on, let me check my room." I did have one once upon a time. I told her if I didn't already give it to you, then I'll just go downstairs or I'll grab it and if not, I'll go downstairs to get the other one. So, and then sorry, I just walked all the way across the room. [laughter] >> Anyway, went there and looked I didn't have it anymore. So, I told her I was like, "Okay, yeah, you're right. I don't have it anymore. I'm going to go downstairs and get the other one." Went downstairs and got it and then came back upstairs and she started arguing with me, saying I never gave her another one to begin with. And I told her, I was like, "It wasn't anything recent. Like, I've had that thing for years. Not a big Anyway, she started arguing with me and I was like, "I'm not doing this. I'm going to bed." I shut the door and I I shut the door and I walked out. And then she accused me of slamming the door, followed me into the kitchen, continued screaming at me, getting in my face, asked her to back up. And then um that's when she started getting a little more violent, which doesn't normally happen. She started at me and then she my glasses, which I'm pretty sure is what caused that. It was in my glasses. And then she did end up putting me in the mouth at one point, which caused my braces to stick right here on my mouth. And then um continued screaming some more. My grandma came upstairs and then she just completely backed off and went to her room and I went to my room and that was the last of it. >> So when you say she became more like what what do you mean by that? >> And >> and when she hit you, how how did she hit you? >> I think it was an open hand. I think it was meant to be a but I also wasn't looking at her hand. I was looking at her face. >> I apologize. I >> was looking at the face on her hand. So I don't know for sure. >> So you you know about how many times she hit you? I know it was at least two but it wasn't I know for a fact it was not more than three times but I like I said >> so two two to three times obvious I see this this here you said there was a place in your mouth was there any other >> No this is mostly filled up now and you couldn't see it to begin with >> yeah so was this I hate to say normal but I mean is this a regular occurrence or >> because whoever called like I say this [music] that's post trying to come in >> the daughter shared that long-standing tensions in their multigenerational home led to repeated conflicts >> was concerned about your safety and said that this is a kind of something that reoccurs and so our dispatch was trying to look at calls for service and that you know they have had calls complaints about that in the past. >> Yeah. both. There was only I think one complaint in the past and that one wasn't on her. That was my stepdad which he's gone now. But um she's never gotten like that before. Her not her getting little erotic and screaming that erotic. Is that the word? I don't think so. Erotic. >> Erotic. Yeah, her screaming that that is more normal. But as far as actually no. So, and I'm just trying to figure out what her mind frame would have been. Like, to your knowledge when this occurred, would she have been intoxicated or on anything? >> I know for a fact there was no alcohol in the house aside from my grandpa's beer. She does not drink beer. And as far as any kind of other substances, I don't know. I try to mostly stay away from her anyway. So, >> why why would that if you don't mind me asking? >> She's really snippy towards me. Always. We have a few good moments a month and then other than that, it's just always a bad attitude or spring at me for something. And so I just stay away from her. >> It's my understanding you live in the same pl same house as your grandparents. So who who all lives in the house? >> Um it's me and my mom, 12-year-old little sister, 8-year-old little sister, and then my grandma, which is her mom, and then her stepdad. >> So my stepgrandfather? >> Yes. >> Okay. Now that's all right. My my wheels were turning. They're slow sometimes. >> Um who who all was at the house when this happened? >> Me, her, and then both my grandparents. My little sisters were with their aunt. >> Both little sisters were not there? No. >> Okay. Did Did anybody else see it? Just maybe grandma heard it and kind of come and she >> put a stop to it. >> Okay. >> Cuz she was already mostly awake anyway cuz I had to go downstairs and get that charger. >> Okay. And do you remember the social worker's name again? I'm sorry. >> Michelle, I think. >> Okay. >> I think that's what she said on the phone. Not positive. >> Did she leave the number that she >> I have the number she called me off of? >> May I get that? >> Yeah. um 270. >> Regardless of who was at fault, officers stated their priority was the safety and well-being of the minor involved. >> And do you have is your mom like you said she just left the house like live 360 or something or how how do you know where she's at? >> Yeah, I have live 360 and we have fine line. >> So you think she'll be going to work or where? >> She's at home. I really don't know where she's going to be honest. It says she's at Family Dollar right now. That's all right. Okay. So, [clears throat] you seem to me, you're you're 17, right? You seem to be very intelligent. You seem to to have it together and be very mature. Okay? So, I'm not one to really like beat around the bush or I mean, like, you seem super intelligent for your age. So, I'm just going to be honest with you, okay? And and I hope you know that it's not okay for a parent or anyone to to like that. >> Okay? So, that being said, sometimes this could put you in a bad situation, okay? But by law, there are actions that I have to take because at the end of the day, your safety is more important to me than my own life. So, I'm going to do whatever I can do to keep you safe and to keep your two little sisters safe. Okay. >> The mother said the issue started when her daughter repeatedly yelled and challenged her, causing her to lose her temper. >> How many times? >> Just once. Open hand, close hand. >> Open hand. I just in the mouth said, "No, stop. I already told you about your mouth. You're not gonna talk to me like that." And then she's literally in her room. My mom comes upstairs and she's in her room screaming at her, throwing it around like I'm her screaming, "Don't touch me. Get away from me." And I'm nowhere near her. I'm in my bedroom. She's in her bedroom. And my mom is standing in the middle in the living room going and she her you need to calm down and chill out. Like she was out of control. >> Did you notify the police or anything when it happened? No, I didn't. >> Who Who else was there? Anybody in the room when it happened? >> No. No. My mom didn't come upstairs until after she finally went to her room. >> Okay. And I guess is this your your mom out here? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Well, I'm I'm going to sit up and talk to her real quick. But while you have your identification, you have >> in my car. >> Okay. That's all right. >> I mean, I know my driver's license. Do you want to >> Well, that's I'll get in just a minute. I'm going to go over here talk to her and see what she said. So, she said her one time. That was it. >> Just one time in the mouth. I told her, "Stop. You're not going to cuss me like that. You're not going to talk to me like that. I'm going to act like she was body bumping me, like chest bumping me, trying to fight. And I kept telling her, "I'm going to fight with you like that." Like, "I'm your mom." >> How'd she get the big place on her? >> She has glasses on. She would put her arm up like that and she I didn't go anywhere near her eye cuz she was crying about her glasses. You're going to break my glasses is what she said. I didn't even touch her. I didn't go anywhere near her eye. I mouth just like that. >> Okay. So So your mom come up there after it was over with, right? >> Well, I mean screaming like I was her screaming, "Don't touch me. Get away from me." And I wasn't even near her with the bedroom door and I was in my room across the house. >> Okay. All right. Well, hang out just a second. I'm going to go talk to her real quick. Is that all good? >> Yeah. >> Police also spoke with the grandmother, but she did not directly witness the situation. >> Ma'am, what what's your name? >> Camera. >> Camera. Camera. >> Camera. Okay. So, what what happened the other day? I guess 2 days ago when your daughter and your granddaughter got into it. >> Oh, yeah. I don't know. I heard them, but I don't know what happened. >> Okay. You You didn't say anything? >> I didn't see any I didn't witness anything. >> What What did you hear? >> Both of them yelling at each [clears throat] other. >> Did it sound like any any one of them started it or I mean, could you tell? >> I couldn't really tell. I heard first at the top of her lot, but I couldn't but I could not understand what she was saying cuz we live downstairs. Okay. >> And they live upstairs. So I couldn't it wasn't audible enough for me to understand what she was saying. >> You have your ID just so I can jump down to spoke with you. >> Did you see the the in her mouth and the her granddaughters? >> No, I didn't. >> What's your phone number, man? Thank you so much. You're welcome. >> The mother mentioned a past incident involving her daughter which had increased emotional strain in the family. >> Thank you so much. >> You're welcome. >> I don't think that would make it a little more serious. cuz I had some time into her face and then you hit her in the face. >> I didn't like wham her. I just her. >> That was it. It wasn't a oh my god, I'm going to knock her clear across the house or whatever. No, it was not that serious at all. >> What was her injury? What? >> She was in a car last year in November. She was t-boned at 70 mph and it basically split her in half. It crushed her pelvis. She has five screws on it together. pictured her spine in the bottom in two spots. Um >> accident on Scott Green Road out here >> with three girls. >> Mhm. >> It's been a month in Vanderbilt. I mean they just swear it crushed her pelvis. They wouldn't let her walk. She wouldn't even want to get out of bed because of that. She's been babyed and gotten away with all the stuff that she probably normally otherwise wouldn't have. You know, a little bit more leniency is cuz she I mean they brought her back. that he were 3 minutes of blood before they recovered the helicopter. >> However, the mother's explanation did not fully align with some physical indications raised further questions in the investigation. >> So, so you hear here's kind of the predictions that I'm okay. I obviously wasn't there and I'm not God. So, I don't I don't know what happened. All I can do is make the best judgment call that I can make. Okay. >> All right. And at the end of the day, people way more smart, smart smarter than I am, make way more money than I am, make make these kind of decisions, right? But at the end of the day, we received a complaint that she had in. I went and verified that. Okay? Like I say, I I wouldn't I don't know if she she chest bumped you or or whatever. I went talked to your mom. She didn't say it. She wasn't there. She was just there for the aftermath. So, I have no witnesses. All I have is a 17-year-old with some face serious. >> So, are you taking me to jail? >> Yes, ma'am. That being said, I have no choice whatsoever. The law gives me no choice whatsoever. That's what I'm saying. I have no I I I [clears throat and snorts] don't make the final say. I just can make the best judgment call that I can here. You have noies that I can see. No complaint. You said she didn't you and she has two two facial injuries, minor injuries that she did to herself when she put her hand up with her glasses. That's what caused her black eye. Like I say, that that's somebody that's that's got way more education and money than me that makes that decision. Not not me. Okay. >> While officers said they understood the challenges of raising children in a multigenerational household. The law requires accountability when situations become physically harmful, even if considered mild. >> I was making you stand up for trans. We can't get off the bus. >> They're all going to an ant house tonight, right? >> Yes. >> Say what's happening. >> Just don't talk to me, please. >> Ma'am, we're just trying to make sure. >> We're trying to make sure that your kids are safe. >> They are. The will be there at 5:00 when she gets over to get them. >> I understand. So, the best thing you can do when we're trying to help you is stay calm and not lash you out of dust. >> Don't think you're helping me, though. You guys are not helping me. >> I'm doing what the law requires me to do. >> What's last name? Is it young or is it somebody else? >> You said that's my sister. >> Now, do you have any on your person? I'll have to ask. >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Cuz I'm going to pat you down the best that I can. It's being a male, but they're going to check you at the jail. >> I don't have anything. I absolutely nothing on me. >> Can I finish? >> Yeah. Not to say that you would, but if you take anything inside the jail, that's a felony offense. By law, I have to warn you. Oh, I just have to warn you. That's it. >> I literally have nothing. >> Okay, that's fine. I just check my >> No, that's not So, we'll give this to your mom outside. You get everything you need to get. >> Yeah. I'll talk to her when she gets out early next week. >> I won't get out until early next week. No, I'll talk to you early next week. >> Oh, I was like, "Oh my god." So, you guys do know that to do tonight, which is exactly what she wanted. So, she's going to go to her boyfriend's house all night tonight and probably not come home all day weekend. It's perfect. >> So, so you're blaming me for what happened last night? >> It's perfect. Y'all have no don't know us today. >> Okay. information people. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> I don't know. I'm done with Jason, so I'm sure to come through, but you already got all that. >> Thank you, >> ma'am. >> Cut the >> I'm I'm just saying this is ridiculous. No, I feel like I beat the hell out of her. I literally I beat the [ __ ] out of her. >> I mean, this is like you running your mouth. You want me to [ __ ] you in the mouth? >> I mean, if I'm up in your face screaming cuz you saying you I expect it. Yes, sir. >> I don't respect his attitude. >> Okay, take me to jail. >> Yes. >> Because you would have done the same thing to me, right? You Thank you. >> The motherf face child [music] charges with penalties in Kentucky of up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
