saw her in my head breaking my goddamn >> feel. It's okay the way you're living. >> No, not really. >> I only GOT TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T PRESS back out right now. >> I'm sorry. >> Innocent children are often placed in situations that are difficult for them to fully understand or handle. >> She is open. I'm going. I'm going. I'm going. >> She almost walked out onto this road and got nailed by >> Children are neither the cause nor the issue. Yet they are often the ones who must experience and carry the impact of it all. >> I don't really know the word how to say it for now. >> How would you feel seeing children grow up in hardship surrounded by conditions that may affect their well-being? On August 20th, 2023, authorities in Pasco responded to a report. What they discovered raised serious concerns about the living environment. >> It doesn't look like there's anyone. >> Sheriff's Office. Hi. Oh. Oh, can you hold your dog? >> Is he friendly? >> Yeah, he's friendly. >> Hi. We're here to check on you guys. >> She said she works for like houses and stuff. Are they architect? >> Say that one more time. >> But I don't really know the word how to say it pronounce it. >> Okay. >> Like houses like help them or something. >> Okay. What's with all the trash at the door here? >> We don't have dump. >> You don't have a dump. >> Has been like taking some of it out. >> Where is he at? >> He's at work. He works at game store. >> He works at a game store. Okay. >> I think that's his name. like GameStop. >> Yeah. Okay. Hi. >> How's the other dog? Mean or nasty? >> No. >> Okay. So, basically, we're here to make sure that you guys are okay. Do you guys go to school? >> Be at school. I'm going to go home. >> I go home school. Okay. >> Wait, no, like online. No. >> Okay. Like virtual school. Okay. Gotcha. Are you okay if we make sure that like you have running water in your house and stuff? Basically, long story short is we got a call that things were not so hot at the house, that there was trash everywhere, that you guys were kind of living in some undesirable conditions. Do you mind if I talk to you alone for a sec? So, another concern was is that you had possibly made some statements that you wanted ourselves. Is any of that true? >> Oh, yeah. >> Okay. What's going on with that? >> Oh, no. That was a while ago. Yeah. >> Do you feel that way now? >> No. >> What made you get to that point? >> Um, depression. >> Are you Have you seen a doctor or anything? >> Me about it yesterday, but I didn't. I told her I didn't know cuz I don't really >> like to go see a doctor. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Cuz I don't know who like the doctor. >> So, what got you like depressed? Is there anything specific? >> School like bullying and stuff. >> Oh, okay. Do you don't feel that way now? You don't have any thoughts on yourself right now? >> No. Have you ever thought about? No. >> No. You don't have a plan on how you would do it if you were to do it? No. Okay. >> Hi. >> Do you mind if we go inside just to make sure that you have like running water and food in your house? >> Do you guys have running water? >> Oh, yeah. You have barrel left. >> Oh, good. Your house. Do you have food in your house? You guys have plenty of food. What' you eat today? >> Right now, we were just going to have like Cheezits for a snack. I didn't make anything for lunch yet, but I was probably going to make mac and cheese or something. If >> you have an emergency, do you guys know how to dial 911? Do you have a >> He has a camera that we're supposed to like talk to cuz you can like talk to it and stuff. >> Can we see that camera? >> I can bring it to you. >> Sure. >> Sure. >> So, we got a problem here though. >> Yeah. This is not good >> cuz she's denying us access. I don't feel comfortable. Okay. Where's that hooked up at? >> Right here. Oh, it plugs in. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> Do you have electricity at the house here? >> Yeah. >> Can you turn that light on for me? Okay, perfect. So, you don't think your mom would want us to go inside? Is that why I'm not trying to force you? Cuz here's where I'm kind of at, right? I'm not really okay with the way you guys are living. Do you feel it's okay the way you're living? >> No, not really. >> But I don't really want to move or anything. >> I'm not saying that. I'm not saying you're going to need to move, but >> Well, but we might be able to get some people out here to help you guys. Yeah. I mean, honestly, I don't really want to go over anything that you can go in like a trashing truck. >> Okay. You don't mind? >> Are you So, you're upset with the way the house is. Is it pretty dirty inside, too? >> It's pretty dirty everywhere. >> Do you mind if we go in? >> Do you have your own room here? >> Yeah. Do you mind the way? I don't mind. Not really. Okay. Why does the house get so dirty? >> It wasn't like this before. 5 years ago. And that's when it started. >> Okay. Is your room clean? >> I try to keep it clean. It's like clean on the side we sleep on, but um when you're upset with little houses, what does she say? She just talked to me about that yesterday saying that she has people coming to redo this and then we're going to start like cleaning the house and stuff. So, it's pretty bad. >> Yeah. And I'll be honest, my mental health would be pretty bad, too. I respect that. But you're honest about it. >> I mean, I'm not doing this just for like to not get in trouble. I'm doing this like about it. Is she okay with it or is she upset? >> Kind of both. I mean, she helps us sometimes, but she's like a little kid, so she doesn't really know how to clean. The residents no longer reflected a safe home, but an environment where the children's well-being appeared impacted. >> Hi, you like the rain, too. Who buys you guys clothes and shoes and stuff? >> I don't have I mean, I probably have shoes somewhere, but like and that you're not going to be able to find it, so I can't really find a matching shoe. And we don't I don't really have like a bunch of stuff. >> What kind of What size shoe are you? >> I think seven and a half. >> Oh, yeah. What about you? You got a lot of shoes. You look like a shoe girl. >> Oh, she's a shoe girl. This is shoe girl. >> Wait, so who are the other two cops? >> The other one was standing inside and the other one's our supervisor. We're going to try and get you guys some help to clean your house up. You tired of living like this? Yeah. So, you don't ever really get new clothes. >> Just got new clothes yesterday, but bought them, >> but she just dropped them off. Are they cute? >> She looks on her and stuff and she stayed here for a little bit. She had that talk with me or whatever. It didn't really do anything. So, >> yeah. Do you ever talk to people at school about like the house or anything or >> I haven't gone. I had good grades before. I almost played football, too, but we didn't have the money to get my uniform and stuff. So, let's go to my car. Take a walk. You go first. I'm gonna watch your footsteps. You know the way. Oh, you're not going in my car. I'm just gonna give you something. I'm >> Oh, no. I know. I don't want like here. You like Crocs? I just bought them. You can have them. They're Crocs. >> Sport mode. >> I know. You got to put them in sport mode. They fit. >> Oh, >> I know. They're comfy, right? If I was to go to McDonald's, what do you want? They got chicken nuggets. They got French fries. What do you like? Do you like chicken nuggets? What about >> I usually like spicy stuff more. I'm a spicy girl. >> You like spicy? They're spicy chicken nuggets. You want to try those? >> Yeah. >> Well, she like Sprite. >> Yeah, she would like that, too. But she would probably want a milkshake or something. >> All right, I'll be right back. Okay. There's French fries and chicken nuggets in there. Where's she at? >> 1 hour ago. >> Yeah. Have a Do you see the cell phone? >> Yeah, but it's not your dog. >> Okay. Did he like go with a friend or >> I don't know. I didn't come outside. See? >> That's okay. >> So, >> does he drive or does someone pick him up? Like he usually rides the bike or he goes with his friend, but I'm pretty sure his friend. He told me yesterday that he's either going to go today or on Monday to go with Logan and his grandpa to go golfing or go-karting. >> All righty. You going to eat? I know you're hungry. You said you eat today. Just comes in whatever car. >> I don't know. I I'm not really like outside cuz it's unexpected at the time she comes. >> Yeah, but she hasn't really ever spent the night. >> She was here for like a couple nights, I guess. I mean, that's longer than she's been here before. >> Yeah. And when was that a while ago? >> Probably the day before yesterday. She was here for two nights cuz she wasn't here yesterday. >> A man at the location said he had tried to offer financial help and assist with cleaning, but the mother was often away for extended periods. >> Hi, my name is >> I don't know if you call me. I got restricted phone calls. >> Yeah, that was >> I was going to see if you can message her on Facebook or however you guys get a hold of her. >> I just got a call from me how how I'm doing cuz I can give you his phone number. He's right now. just he was >> not wanting to come back. I'm sorry. >> He's not wanting to come back. Do you want me to try to get call Monique real quick? >> Blow her up. At the end of the day, like this is all her responsibility to know where the kids are and everything. Like that's Monique's responsibility. So, she needs to get down here and handle it so that you're not the one that we're getting on to because it's not you. It's >> Oh, I know. That's why like I've been asking friends whenever they go they can get extra food and stuff like that >> that I can grab for them because I'll be honest all my paychecks are going to bills and stuff like that and I'm trying >> when she leaves does she tell you when she's coming back? >> There's sometimes where she's gone for multiple days even a week at a time. The kids don't want to admit to it. You know the kids have been aband she abandoned the kids and stuff like that. She finally started opening up yesterday about stuff and at the end of the day they need someone to talk to. >> I'm trying to push them to the right direction. while unfortunately they want to go a different direction and usually it's more negative direction. There's times where I'm like I'm trying to clean the house literally I'll watch them just tear apart things broken floor and that's why there's a lot of trash. I can only take two trash bags easy a day th my car and take it to where I work and use the dumpster that that's why don't have trash there. It was worse, you know, >> right? Do you know where Monique usually like hangs out at? >> I don't know anything about where she hangs out at. >> Does she use any? I couldn't tell you for sure. Uh she could be doing it outside of the house and I wouldn't be able to know for sure. I know that she's okay with them smoking. I despise any kind of like, you know, drinking, anything like that. >> When she comes back home, what does she usually act like? >> She usually just sits in her room. Whenever I get a chance, I'll clean a little bit and I go to work and then just take it to the kind of go in my room and just, you know, relax for a bit. You're on speaker right now. >> Is this Mon'nique? >> Yes. This is Deputy Brock with the Pasco Sheriff's Office. We're here. You've been left alone? >> No. >> Yes, ma'am. That's correct. Would you mind coming back to your residence? >> Um, they have not been left alone. >> Okay. Well, we got a call and we came here and we've helped them out and now we we're trying to get some services. Been having some issues. Okay. Are you able to come home? You're not that far away. >> No, I'm I'm walking right now. I can definitely find the way to the house. Yes. >> Okay. The kids have had no way to call you or anyone. So, we were unable to get a hold of you. >> Okay. They I can they call them on Facebook right now. >> Yeah. They don't have working cell phones and they don't have phones with Wi-Fi. They don't even have phones period. >> They have a tablet as well >> and it doesn't work. It's broken. >> Just recently. I talk to them every day when I leave. If I leave every day, I definitely keep in contact with them. >> Okay. >> I don't know why it's being said. I just leave them. I >> Okay. Well, regardless, can you come back to the house or >> Okay. Yes. >> Okay. So, you're walking from New York Avenue. >> We just go pick her up. I'll go pick her up. >> You want us to just come pick you up and give you a ride cuz we need to get the kids help. >> Okay. >> Tooth is rotting out. She's got a giant spider bite on her leg. Your ceiling's falling in in the house. It's infested with roaches. They need help. >> Okay. So, I'm on my way to the house right now. >> Well, where are you working? Cuz the kids haven't had food. They don't have any They haven't had clothes in several days. I just bought them McDonald's. Do you want to argue with me some more? >> There's chicken in the freezer. >> All the food in the fridge is molded. There's roaches crawling in the freezer. Kids can't eat food covered in roaches. >> It's definitely not covered. >> Ma'am, I'm not I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just disappointed in the living condition. I need to get them help. >> I'll see you when you get here. I >> She's a grown woman. >> No, I know. >> We're grown. We have jobs. I'm assuming you have kids. >> No. >> Okay. I have kids, right? I have five kids. >> I take care of my kids, right? Cuz I hold a job. >> Yes. >> Okay. You can provide for your kids. And you're providing for kids that aren't yours. And that's not your responsibility because that's that's what a decent person would do. >> The biggest thing is she was talking to me yesterday. She doesn't want to go to school cuz she's afraid of being bullied. >> Yeah. Which I get. >> I don't know if she's going to tell you the same thing. I don't know if she's told you. She apparently tried to cancel a couple months ago. I was supposed to move out of around November last year. That's what me and my friend were planning on doing. We were I was honestly I was want to leave this household. I didn't want to be in this household anymore. Exactly. It's too much. But at the end of the day, I needed to I had a feeling not to go. I'm afraid to come home one day and one of them. >> I really am. >> Who owns this house now? >> I don't know. >> I paid the property taxes. I paid the electric bill. I paid internet bill. That's why like, you know, they're able to message on Xbox. I didn't know their tablet broke. I didn't know their phones broke. They didn't mention that. >> I mean, at the end of the day, too, that's not responsibility to know those things. >> They couldn't find the cord for the camera. It's not there anymore. Which is not your fault. The cord's not there. >> I know. I just wish that they mentioned something because >> So, I think they don't really want to bother me. >> Do you mind just showing me inside like where everyone's rooms are or whatever? The girls just wanted me to see like the inside asic, but do you mind showing me where the girls rooms are like that you guys have run water? It's kind of something normal we do. I didn't want to upset them too badly. So, they said there were roaches in the fridge and crawling in there. So, they were scared to eat the food, which I I can't blame them. multiple times that the food I'm bringing home is call for them >> on the table. >> On the table and there, >> you know, I've tried to clean that up fridge multiple times. >> I can tell you're trying to clean up cuz some if there's a pathway, you know what I mean? Like you can tell you're trying. It's not your responsibility to do it alone. She doesn't work. She's online gambling or whatever she's doing. >> I don't even know what she's doing at this point. That's what's worrying me >> because like I said, as soon as I move out, what's being able to do anything? So whenever I sneeze, whenever puppies being smoked or being around pot, so I'm starting to sneeze and I'm like talking out of friends online, I'm like, >> "Why am I sneezing? >> Be right back." >> Yeah. >> Are you guys smoking in here? >> Oh, they're inside smoking. >> Yeah. And then they're like, "No, >> do you guys want to come inside?" >> Officers later spoke with the mother to understand the situation. She denied any concerns, though the observed conditions suggested otherwise. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah, she's not at the 7-Eleven, so I think she's probably trying to pull a fast one. She sounded pretty panicked like she was coming back. You think she's coming back? >> I don't know. >> Did she message you again? GC, did she message you on Messenger? >> I do not know. >> You going to try to call her again? >> She It's like delayed, not active. >> I know sometimes like you can ask her. I'll try calling her like 10 times, 15 times. >> Is that normal? >> Yeah. >> This is Deputy Brock. >> Hello. >> Hey, are you planning on coming back to your house, too? >> Probably in a little bit or tomorrow. I'm at a buddy. I'm at a friend's house right now. >> Okay. Well, this house is not livable. >> Oh, why do you say that? >> Well, the holes in the roof is on the floor, the trash everywhere, the toilet doesn't work anymore. >> Yes, it does. >> Your big spider bite on her leg that looks infected. >> Yeah, that's Thank you very much. That is not a spider bite. And we have water, we have food, we have dog food, we have everything. >> Not looking to you guys. We're looking to help you and get your house fixed. >> No, I know, but I'm I'm just saying you said it's not liveable. >> It's not livable right now. It's not. He needs to come back. But we have all the necessities. That's what I'm trying to say. So, how how >> it's not deemed livable by the state of Florida. If a if a county worker was to come out and see the holes in the ceiling, this house would not be liveable. >> Okay. But how do you guys know that there's holes in the ceiling? >> Because we've been inside. >> Who gave you permission to go inside? >> Let me inside. He pays the bills here and he's the legal landlord. >> Okay. >> He pays the taxes. He pays everything. So, are you willing to come home right now? >> Not at the moment. >> Okay. Are you at Logan's house? Cuz I've already spoken to his dad. >> No, I'm not. Okay. All right. Well, I'll have them call you when she gets back here. >> All righty. Give me one second. Okay. I'll let you go now. >> Go ahead, dear. >> So, I think she's going to talk to her if you just want to hang out or eat your pizza or go by the front of the house, whatever. >> And you left them home alone? >> No, you online. Okay. Do they have computers? >> Do you have two of them? Yes. >> Okay. Do they work? >> Yes, they do. >> They do. If they work, wouldn't they have a way to get them? >> I swear I can show you messages whenever I leave to go to work. Whenever I'm not here, I can show you messages. Promise you they have something working where they can get a hold of you, right? If they get a hold of you. Are you able to come back home? >> He found me walking here. Yes. >> Yeah, he found you. >> Well, he didn't find I told him here. >> How are you supposed to get somewhere if there's an emergency? >> I would stand in the middle of the road until they And you're leaving them alone. >> Go over there and hang out for a few minutes, please. >> Oh, >> yeah. Thank you. >> Yeah. I have a big spider bite on her that looks to be infected. She's missing half of her tooth. They both have lights. I know that. >> Okay. So, why are you at a 7-Eleven and not here? Where were you? >> I was at 7-Eleven. >> Okay. Before that, >> before that, I was at a friend's house. Okay. >> Like I said, I just left this morning. How long were you here yesterday? >> I I'm here every day. >> So, look, now's the time to tell the truth, right? Because we've heard from multiple people that you're not here every day. So, now's the time to start really putting it all on the table before it really gets thrown at you, okay? >> So, let's start telling the truth. Once in a while >> I might not come home overnight, but I do call and I make sure and meet contact. Yes. >> Okay. >> How do you call them on phones that they don't have? >> She has a tablet. She has a I can show you here today knowing that her tablet did not. >> The seriousness became clearer. Poor living conditions, limited access to proper meals, and a prolonged lack of consistent care for the children. >> She's been struggling lately. What was your plan with that? >> We were going to set it up where she could go to the doctors and we were going to go do therapy. We were going to try to get her the help that she needed. >> Is that before or after you plan on rolling up to school? Do you hear where I'm coming from? >> I absolutely do. That's why I'm not trying to argue. >> So, when you're at a friend's house, what are you doing? >> Hanging out. >> Okay. Doing >> like not talking. >> Are you using anything currently? >> They're going to find out. Now's the time to tell the truth. >> I for a while. What were you using? >> Okay. When's the last time you used? >> Couple days ago. >> A couple days ago. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. When you're using, how are you using? >> I smoke. >> You smoke it? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Is that while you're at your friend's house? >> I don't bring it here. I don't do it around here. >> Gotcha. So, a couple days ago, can you pinpoint the last? >> Friday. >> So, between Friday and today, where what have you been up to? >> I've been home. I've been walking. I went to work. >> What is work? >> Work? I work at a game room. >> How often do you work there? >> Not very often. Now, only when I need extra help. So when you tell everybody else that you're going to work, are you really going to work or are you just going to hang out at a friend's house? >> Cuz everybody else told us that you're always at work. So obviously that's >> You told us you were at work today. >> Yeah. Obviously that's a lie. >> No, I was not. >> Then where were you? >> I all day 7-Eleven. >> No. >> So that's your priority right now? >> No. >> Going to a friend's house? I mean, have you seen the inside of your house? >> I have. >> Right. You don't even want to stay there. You're staying at friend's houses, but you're leaving. >> No. I come home and I sleep in the same room in the same room. >> Do you though? Because we've talked to numerous people and that's not what's been told to us multiple nights in a row that you're not here. >> 5 days, weeks, they can get a hold of me. >> Then you need to tell me the truth. >> But when I was working all the time, yes, there would be times that I would pull doubles. I would get enough time to come home, change, get something to eat, and go back to work. >> I'm talking about this very weekend. I have no excuses. I I don't have any excuses to why I do it. I don't bring it here and I don't bring your saying that's any better than going out and doing it. That makes me feel like Yeah, it should. >> Especially since there's food in the house. There's stuff in the freezer. >> Not food in the house. I open the freezer. I open the fridge. It's all completely molded. You have roaches everywhere. There's dogs all over the place. So, don't try to cover it up here. >> There there is food in there. There's canned food. There's stuff in the freezer, >> right? That's on the table. >> And I do get assistance. My food stamps hit tonight. When I got home, I would go grocery shopping. She has half a tooth, a spider bite. They both have lice. A giant knot in the back of her head. >> I appreciate that. Thank you. There is We just have to find room and the house is a wreck. I admit that it's not how it should be and it's not how we should be living. You're absolutely right. >> Well, it's not how you're living because you're not here. >> I'm here more than you think I am. >> They're here more than you are. And that's >> and I know I I get where you're coming from. You know, you're protecting yourself. >> That should be your responsibility. >> You're absolutely right. >> You should have done that before I even showed up. >> You're absolutely right. I shouldn't have to be telling you what you already >> No, you shouldn't have to be. And I've been slacking and I I can't say sorry because saying them I can't say sorry. Sorry is just worse. I'm just sorry that you had a for you to have to come out of here and say something to me for me to realize or recognize that I'm slacking. I'm slipping. I'm falling back like I shouldn't. >> So I'm going to need you to scream. I'm going to go grab it and you're going to scream for me. I need to >> The situation intensified when the mother did not follow officer's instructions leading to further action and her being taken into custody. >> How long has this been going on? How long have you lived here? >> I've lived here for 10 15 years. >> Okay. How long has she lived here? >> Just about the same. >> What was going on then? Do you remember? Like that would have got her in trouble. The same thing that's kind of going on now. >> I think the same thing I was going >> the child situation. All that food that's on the table. Did you bring that? >> Yes. So the deal with the house, have you have you brought that up to her? Like, hey, like this is what does she say? >> It's just a blame game at that point. And she blames me. I blame her. I blame the fact that we're just not being responsible enough that, you know, we're just trashing the house, you know, like >> passed away. >> Yes. >> Was this like this living here? No. She obviously probably >> the the only thing was it may have been her bedroom was damage and she really wanted to get it repaired and then >> but as far as like the trash and the bugs and the >> trash and bugs >> the flies and the dog poop and all that stuff like that. I'm assuming that that wasn't like that when you're >> It wasn't She passed away in January 16th. I want to say in 2021. >> Okay. So like 2 years ago. >> Yeah. >> So basically the house has gone down since then. >> Yeah. >> So how long has the house been like this? Basically like about a year and a half. >> A minimum a year. I know when we when the last um happened, we were able to get a lot of a lot of clean, but then it just >> kind of piled back up. >> It kind it piled back up again. >> Okay. Um >> I'm curious and I'm not placing the blame game on. You're right. As an American citizen, when we came and asked you last time, hey, can we look inside? You told us no. Why was that? >> I'm just scared. I'm scared of the fact that like how what I'm doing with what I you know, I feel responsible. >> You're not going to jail. Okay. I'm telling you that right now. >> Okay. >> All right, man. I appreciate it. Thank you so much. Hey Mo'Nique, can I talk to you over here real quick? >> I don't know. >> I don't have any shiny silver fingers. No bracelet. >> I do. I don't. >> Just listen. One one of two things. You listen to what I'm saying right now or you walk over to my car. So, pick one. You got two seconds. Pick one. >> What did I do? Oh, I'm going. I'm going. I'm going. I'm going. I'm on your over with. So, go ahead. Drop your phone. Drop your phone. >> I did. I was asking what I did. >> I got I wasn't going to fight. >> I know, but you didn't listen to what I said. No, I told you I had 2 seconds and then you're asking questions and all this other stuff. >> Why are you going to jail? You're being charged with three counts of chop or three counts of abandonment. Let's go walk over to this side of the car. Okay. >> I'm not a bad person. >> Never said you were. >> Please. >> You got anything in your bra or? >> Um, not that I know of. No. >> What do you mean not that you know of? >> I think the letters in my pocket. >> Okay. So, you know if you bring something into the jail Yeah. >> that's contraband. You get charged with another charge. Do you have something in your bra? Yes or >> no? No. >> Cuz you know they're going to scan you, right? >> Can I reach up here so I can show you that there's nothing? >> No, I would rather have you not reveal your breast. Go ahead. Get in. >> Do you want to keep the pizza for later? >> No, that's okay. They're going to come with me anyway, so they're not >> It's not McDonald's. >> I assume you're going to be able to take care of the bird and the dogs. >> No, the bird. >> Yeah, you you'll be able to take care of the bird and the dogs. I'm not moving. >> After repeated refusal to cooperate, the discussion could not move forward and officers decided to place him into custody. >> I know. >> Yeah. I kind of got that one. >> Oh, on his lips, too. >> Let me see that. I know. I know, buddy. >> I just want to make sure you know that because it's already three times that I'm tired, you know, telling him that when you do this again, I'm going to call the police and he's not doing anything. >> And all he said is he just he >> does he have like a girlfriend or anything that he's with? He's with a girlfriend. >> Do you know if she ever like takes care of him? Actually, there's between a favorite season between cuz she's a daddy's girl. In our situation, it's kind of like he what do you call that? He's blaming him of of our like relationship that didn't work out. >> He's kind of blaming him and he I know he's not capable of taking care of two kids cuz he has a back problem. >> He has a chronic. >> Do you guys have a child custody agreement? We're still working on it. Yeah. >> So you guys sharing them is just what you guys have agreed upon yourself. >> No, we have a lawyer. >> Okay. You do have a lawyer. Okay. So there is some kind of agreement. >> Yes. Yes. >> Okay. Do you know what his phone number is? >> Yeah. And he said he cuz last time I told him that I might call police when it's going to happen again. And now he said you can call police. >> Okay. >> He said that. >> Uh can you give me a couple minutes? Yeah. >> I'll be right back. >> All right. So, hey, >> this back copy is for you, me. Um, I notified my sergeant. The detective was notified. So, they're going to come out here. They're going to continue the investigation. Pretty much I'm going to tell them what I have so far. >> They'll come out and they'll continue it. They'll get in contact with you when they're when they need you. They'll probably come check them out and pick it up from where I left it off. All righty. >> Okay. >> Um, do you have any other questions for me? >> So, their dad is already know that I report this to >> No, I haven't informed them. I'm not going to attempt to speak to him. That's something that the detectives will handle. They'll pick it up. Detectives that specialize in these kind of crimes, >> they'll come out here and they'll handle it. Do you have any fear that maybe the father will come back and try to pick him up or anything? >> No, but just a little um the reason why we're we have situation like this cuz it's kind of like narcissist. Yeah. And I still have like anxiety when I see him. Yeah. and he's like trying to blame me all the time and it makes me like, you know, >> no, I I I get it. Um, if he ever comes here, just give us a call. You know, I don't want there to be any incident. Of course. >> All righty. I think I have everything I need. All righty. >> Oh, thank you so much. >> Yes, of course. Have a better day. Okay. >> Thank you. You, too. >> Bye. >> Bye-bye. >> 2 days later, police visited the father's home to clarify the situation. He stated that the boys came from normal play which made the investigation more complex and raised concerns for authorities. Hey, >> I'm doing good. How are you? >> Great. >> Okay. So, we got a case called into the department because of your son shot >> because of the he had on his face. It was called into us, but there was some concerns as to how he got >> He's a little over 2-year-old and he fell. We got little little jumpings and all sorts of stuff >> and he fell and >> he fell off the fell off a what though? >> He he was playing in his room that we had all sorts of little toys in here. Got one of those little jump things. It's like a little trampoline. >> Mhm. >> So he was playing on the trampoline and he fell off. >> Yes, ma'am. That fell off. Just kind of fell on it. >> Okay. Yeah. >> You seen the monster he had on his face? >> Yeah. >> Did he go to the doctor for them? >> No. No. So I've got two kids. Uh Aaron, she's almost five and Sean who just turned turned two on 618. This kid falls more in one day than than Aaron falls in her whole career. That's what >> Okay. >> We are recently divorced and there's been some issues from from that. >> Yeah, that one not >> issues. Not to the kids, but I I don't know. Mommy is uh just been kind of fussy at me. >> How long How long were you two were married? >> We're married. You're currently going through a divorce, right? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Yeah. >> How long were you married for? >> Uh, four years. >> Four years. >> Okay. >> And you two share one child or two child? >> We We're on one week on, one week off. >> Okay. And this week we're mommy has the kids. >> Mommy has >> And I'm off this week. >> Just a quick question if you don't mind me asking. When he fell and got those ridges on his face, can he complain of like any at all? >> No. >> Hey. Hey, listen. So, uh, so he he was born with an imperforated anus. And I don't know what you know what that means. >> Need to have a butthole. >> Oh, wow. That's great. Most people have no idea what that is. This kid has been through so much. Wait. You know when you I don't know. Do you have kids? >> No, sir. >> I do. >> Okay. >> You know, when you bring a baby home, you're looking at fingers, 10, toes, all that stuff. And you don't think about having a butthole. That's how good this kid is. >> Mhm. >> So, we're used to medically treating this child. They, you know, they don't give you six months or anything. They give you a six day. The kids got a colosttomy bag, an osttomy, a fistula. Do we know how to take care of of our child, >> right? >> Like he he falls a lot. Look at his head. He's a big head kid. We we joke about it. >> Was there anyone else in the room with him when he fell? >> Uh, we were all just kind of playing around. I mean, >> so I just I don't want you to like feel like we think anything happened, but because Nicole came into the department and because he did have the came in as though no one knew what happened to him, which is why we had to come and speak to you. >> Oh, okay. So, I got Okay, that's fine. I need to see the the trampoline that he was jumping on and fell off of. >> You need to see the trampoline he was jumping off. >> Mhm. >> I have to take a picture of it. >> We have to physically see it. >> Okay, >> that's fine. >> What's discipline like for the kids? >> What's that? >> What's discipline like? >> We don't really have not much discipline. Um puts in the corners. We you know, we just out. >> Yeah, we just don't we just don't have a whole lot of that that issue, you know. >> You have any questions for myself? >> Um what what kind of what happens from here? You know, I mean, I guess so. Well, I'm assuming cuz when when we so we switch on the phone Sundays. Uh we don't talk to each other during the week. We used to, but then anyway, mommy didn't didn't want to do that anymore. So, virtually spend the whole week, you know, without communication with the other party. Came back Sunday about 3 minutes late. I let her know before that uh before that happened and I said, "Hey, uh you know, Aaron's uh got got a 93 on her assessment." Really great. Sean was playing in his room, fell down. What happened? What happened? I said, "Yeah, we were playing in his room. We're all right around jumping and and keep the studies. >> Did this happen on Sunday? >> Did it happen on Sunday? No. I honestly I I really don't recall what what that happened. I just don't >> Where's the trampoline uh set up at? >> It's in a little It's in the front front bedroom. >> Front bedroom. >> Okay. >> It It happened during the weekend though, right? He went to school like the teachers would have definitely said something happened like over the weekend. >> So, is there somebody that called this in? Yes, someone called into the hotline or to the online. >> Okay. So, it could have been anybody. Could have been my wife. Could have been somebody else. You're not living here to say it. Doesn't really matter to me who sent you saying that. So, but Oh, children weren't here. They're they're at the mom's house right now. Do you need to see the children? >> Um, I did. >> Okay. So, you already saw them. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I seen them. I guess the marks on his face is not as I guess severe as they were when he first retired home. Come on. Every time we and she's been doing the last couple of weeks, Sean just falls down. We all know this, you know. We just do. He climbs on everything. And that's we we just Well, what happened? I life happened, you know. >> But you were in the room with him when it happened. What was my key? >> Yeah. We're all just kind of playing down at the end of the >> That makes sense. Let's see. >> So, everybody has to come down to my house. >> I don't know if all I need at least one person with me. >> Oh, okay. That that's fine. I just didn't know. Whatever you guys want to do, man. All all three want to go down here. I just need to get the golf cart by like a a moment. >> The next day, police returned for further discussion. The father mentioned the child's congenital condition, attempting to show responsibility, but his statements were not fully convincing. >> Hi, Mr. Mike. How are you? >> Great. >> Sorry, father. >> It's okay. Okay. Sorry. I was out back. I was I was just out back. >> Oh. Oh, it's fine. So, um remember we were here the other day about the um incident that occurred. I just want to tell you, listen, um, I got a really bad ear infection in both ears, so it's really hard for me to hear you guys. You ever had that where your sinuses are all blocked up? Can you speak a little louder? >> Do you prefer to for us to talk out here or is >> We're fine. We're here. I just want to advise you that that I just really having a hard time. >> So, this is based on with the incident that occurred. Um, so we just have to come back out and just talk to you again about the incident and just do another interview. Is that okay? That's cool. >> Yes, that's that's fine. That's fine. >> Yeah. There's some stuff that's a little vague that we just need some clarification. Okay. Okay. >> All right. So, >> would you guys like something to drink? >> No, sir. We're good. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. >> And you're okay. >> Camera recording. Can't really hear. So, I'm like >> he has like 10% of his hearing. >> So, like I said, I'm just reading this to you because it's per policy and we just have to do this before you. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. >> I do understand your rights. >> I do understand my rights. >> You got these rights in mind. Do you wish to speak to me? >> Sure. I'll have a casual conversation with you. I I have a couple of questions. Are you placing me under arrest? >> This is just an interview. >> Okay. Okay. Well, okay. >> Like I said, we were here the other day. We just had a brief conversation >> about the that your kid sustained your son. So, can you just go back to that day about how the about your son? We were all messing around. What I mean, you guys have been in here. >> Camera recording >> the room right back here. It's got two little trampolines in it. Whatever day it was, we were jumping around back there, messing around, jumping on the bean bag chairs, messing around. Was jumping. Kind of fell, hit the hit the ground. No crying, no nothing. I mean, it was just right there. >> Did you see him? >> Did you see him? >> I mean, to say see him, I was in the same room, but it was just like we're, you know, he didn't get up crying. He >> was in the same room. >> I'm sorry. >> Who was in the same room? >> Uh, from my recollection, it was just kind of me and Sean and Aaron. We're just goofing around. We've got a little play castle and stuff in there. So, we just kind of go between the rows. >> That's about as much as I can tell you. You know, >> do you know exactly when this happened? When he fell. >> Sorry. >> Do you remember when he fell? >> Like the day? >> I really don't. Uh-uh. >> Do you remember when when your child went back to the mommy's house? >> On Sunday. We swapped Sunday. So, my understanding is this. He fell the day days before he How long did you have him? >> A week from Sunday to Sunday. What's your name again? >> My name Rodriguez. >> Okay. Okay. Yeah. I've got two children. You have children? >> Maybe. >> Okay. If you ever do have be fortunate to have kids, you know, um you know, they fall and they rub the house play. He climbs and you are in the house. We have a lot of stuff that they climb on and stuff. So, we're kind of used to him doing that and and he falls and stuff like that. So, Aaron, I just have this joke that, you know, Sean falls in more than one day than Aaron falls in his whole career. And I think I said that last time. All I really have to add to kind of whatever statement I made. As the investigation continued, he gave vague explanations and could not recall exact dates and times. Police were concerned that the visible signs did not seem consistent with typical accidents. They took appropriate legal action. >> When he fell, did you do anything to him, as in render him any aid or ice? >> From my touch, he fell, rolled over, were all goofing around. He didn't even cry. >> So, he didn't complain of anymore. >> Did you see any on his face or his person? It might have been a little red, but it looked during the evening it got got redder. It wasn't He didn't complain about it at all. >> Would you say that it got in? >> No, not not really. And it was just >> after the incident after you fell. Did you take them to a doctor? >> No. >> Okay. You didn't? >> No. Well, I guess I don't know whether they have kids or not, but >> I'll tell you I do have kids and I know what to do if something like that happens. >> Yeah. Something like What happened? >> If a child falls or something like that, I would say kids cuz kids fall alive, you know. Um anyway, I did what I thought was was prudent and pertinent. You know, if there's something wrong with him, you know, we we take care of that. I didn't find any need. >> That's that's what I was ask. That's what I was asking is what how did you take care of it? >> Just it's just it's like little that you get, you I mean, we, you know, we had a pea bath that night and, you know, just when they handed him off and I was telling, uh, mommy about the, you said, Sean fell his face. She and she does this every single time when we meet. She's very fussy, you know, and I just try to be a good guy and go, "Hey, what else you need?" I write my check and I come home and and I'm a peaceful guy. >> However, there were more than justes. There was there was significant discoloration to his to his face and also to his chest. Um so it's something that will be noticeable. Okay. >> Um we did not take him to the hospital or to the doctor to be checked out for um that was sustained. >> There was no significant bruising when we >> Yeah. I I I so I didn't notice any significant bruising. I all I saw was on on the face that and it wasn't you know listen I know know that kid pretty good you know. >> Well we understand that but there's some certain requirements in the state of law. No. >> With that in mind I do have probable cause to just put you under arrest. Okay. All right. Just put your hands together as if you're playing, please. Okay. >> I'll explain everything to you in a minute. Sure. >> He has a lot of things. >> Can you get some slippers or something? >> Can he go to the bathroom and put him to the bathroom? Can you please grab me? Maybe. This is not or we would have I would have said no and we would have asked to speak to an attorney and you lied. That's disappointing. Literally said this is an interview. This is not an arrest. He asked you that. >> I asked you that. >> But you I I read your rights. >> I I did. I asked I said are you arrested? I asked you that. I said >> it was an interview and based based >> and you said you said no. >> This was an interview. I told you that this was >> okay. I'm not mad at you. this. So,
