YES, I AM. YES, I AM. >> NO, he didn't. He's like, "I'm physically disabled and she has no right to touch me." >> In every family story, each person feels [music] they've been treated unfairly. But once children are involved, those disagreements start to lose their footing. >> Stop. We're going to get dog bit. Put your hands behind your back. >> Me since I was little. When officials find themselves between two generations [music] and conflicting versions of events, the truth isn't found in what's said. It quietly appears in the stillness of the children. >> And she ripped it out and she got my earrings. >> This call began over an earring, but ended with making sure a child was safe. On April 27th, 2024, police responded to a residential neighborhood after an elderly grandmother reported that her 13-year-old granddaughter had been acting out and had pierced her own nose and ears. From the grandmother's point of view, she wasn't only handling a strong willed teen, but also her own fear, [music] exhaustion, and the weight of raising her granddaughter largely on her own. >> How are you? >> Hey, Dora. >> Yeah. >> How you doing? Good. >> I actually called you guys a little while ago. This has been going on for several days. My granddaughter has mental issues. She's been to the thing twice in the last 3 months and I think you came out here once with another guy maybe. But regardless of that, let me see if I can show you the video. She has scrapes on her because we got into a physical altercation. I got them all over me, my knees and everything else. And I did her after she me and I threw into the wall again. I'm 53 years old. She ain't want to touch me. I'm physically disabled and she has no right to touch me. I told her today she's been going all day constant. My cousin even can tell you. I was talking to my daughter and we were doing three waves because she was talking to Casey and my daughter and everybody. >> Is that over there? >> Yeah, she's over there. She has a scrape on her head and on her shoulder and we got into a physical. We ended up on the ground and then she ran out the door, started screaming like some psychotic person swearing that um I'm sorry. Hey, the cop's here. >> So, how did this all start? She went against my wishes again. I think it started a couple days ago. She's disrespectful and she may cuss you out. She doesn't like Just be careful about that cuz she does have a mouth. She threatened to after she had jumped on my back the other day, threw me into the wall and then I pinned her on the ground. I took her Monday to the psychiatrist and I talked to them. They increased the one medication 2 and 1/2 milligrams, but the medicines ain't working. They're not working. Now we're at this and I'm scared of this. He's going to do something to her. >> Is there anybody else at the house? >> I don't even know those people over there. It's just me and Casey was here. >> Here. She ran out of there after we got into an altercation acting like she was dying or something. >> Somebody say, "What the hell?" And I said, "Your mom's on the phone. Talk to your mother." We were talking to her and then she just threw she It's like there's a switch inside of her. She says, "I don't give a damn about you, Grandma." She says, "I don't care. I'm going to do what I want to do. It's my body and I can do what I want." I said, "No, you don't need to do that. It needs to be done by proper people." I had just had her nose done less than a year ago. And she pulled it out and she couldn't get back in. Well, she got this stuff off the team and that's when she went today to pierce it. And I pulled it out of her nose and I pulled the earrings out. Yes, I did. I said, "I told you not to do that. You're not 18. You're 13. You're my adult. And the disrespect was just unbelievable. I hate you. I this. I that. She's made a tremendous mess in my house. She gets cleaned out. She never puts it up. She doesn't want to do anything. >> It all started because of the earrings. >> It all started because she's been at me. I told her, "Sir, go to the camper." Because I let her go in the camper. There's air conditioner, everything in there. I told her, "You need to pick up the stuff. She makes a mess. Pick it up. It's still a mess." She's a teenager. I told her, "Go out to the camper. Just go to your room. Please just go to your room." No, she won't do it. She was in the living room and it keeps escalating cuz she absolutely refuses to do anything I'm asking. I said, "Just go outside. Go outside." "No." And I said, "Fine." I said, "You need to go outside." I said, "Just go outside." She wouldn't do it. And she come up to me. I'm not going to do it to you cuz I don't want to come. But she come up to me. I went up to her and we're right there. And I said, "Look, you need to listen to me. You I hate you. What the hell, man? What? I've been doing this for a long time. She's put me through so much, man. You have no idea. >> Right. It can be hard. >> She came running over here. I have the video. I just don't know where it's at. >> When did the physical part happened? >> Just a little bit ago. We were physical in the house. She shook me. I shook her. I don't know what to do. Call the internet house. I just called them. They had no rooms. I called the Gainesville and I was on a hold forever. I even called you guys and I said, "You know what? Let me call the Arnet House." I can prove to you I called them. >> As the conversation unfolded, the grandmother's struggles became more visible. While the child also had faced difficult [music] past experiences involving an older individual, situations like that can deeply affect how a young person reacts to the world, calling for patience and support rather than strict discipline alone. >> And in the video that you have, what is it? Oh, >> they're telling me she's refusing. See right here at 503, I called the Arnet House. Then they told me no and I called trying to get help and she she will not let me. I don't know what to do. I'm afraid now because she threatened to stab me. >> If you want to [ __ ] >> That was when I held her down and then stab me now. >> I will >> cuz you put your hands on me. So let's play. >> But it's okay. She jumped. SHE THREW ME. >> YOU PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME [ __ ] >> REALLY? Play with YOU WANT TO. YOU. >> YEAH, RIGHT. >> I gave her to idiot. >> You want to protect me, right? >> Protect me. You want to make my life reason I WANT TO DIE IS BECAUSE >> I WANT to these are the same things I keep going through. Nobody's helping me, man. What do I do? >> She she's stating that she went through the and all that. >> She said that that time. >> Was that your sister? No, it's my daughter. She's scared for it. >> You can go ahead and answer enter. >> That's the reason I went is because of you. >> So, what caused today's incident? >> For disrespect still, I asked her before it ever got anywhere the physical. I said, "Go out to the camper. Just go go please. No. No. And and that's what's on that v video I just did. She wouldn't do it. She just won't do anything. I asked her do her mom, her uncle, Rick. These are all important people that try to support her because she her dad is a a schizophrenic psychopath. I don't know. I can't keep up with all of it. And everything. And I feel her. I love her. She's perfect. Oh, man. And I keep trying. That's what I'm showing. >> And you have legal >> Oh, yes. So, the whole incident for today started because she was being disrespectful. >> Yes. She pierced her nose and her ears and I told her no. >> Okay. >> So, I pulled them out. She didn't like that. I hate you. She took her foot like this and I can't lift it up and she kicked me and I flew to the dick. >> She kicked me in my stomach. >> I pinned her on the ground again. I don't want to her, but she can't keep hurting me either. I just want her to help me. Why can't I know she's a teenager, but you can't do that. >> And the teenagers can also go to jail, too. So, >> that's what I told her. She's declared disabled mentally >> from the PTSD or from what? >> From all of I don't know how to explain it all to you. really >> cuz usually I mean if somebody >> 63 years old >> usually if somebody's declared disabled it's usually because they've actually got some sort of >> she it's a mental issue. I don't know >> but I mean granted I know PTSD is a thing and whatever her issue for the PTSD is I mean she's what 13 I think 14. >> She was touched at Romeo Elementary. We couldn't find her for 30 minutes and heard and the little girl in the bathroom she said the girl touched her. So and then she said that another man touched her. I said, "Why wouldn't you have said something to me?" Well, he's >> not even somebody as >> Do I believe that happened? I'm highly unlikely that that would happen. I just don't see. But he's what am I going to do now? >> I don't know what else to do. What else? >> Turn her over to the States. Let the state put her in a foster home and then she'll realize how miserable life can be. >> Foster home and that's what I'm afraid of. I was a foster parent so I'm very unare what goes on. >> I know. or try to find a uh secured facility. >> I was going to trans house because that is a very structured thing. She's been there before. She didn't like it. >> It ain't as bad. It ain't as structured as you think. Believe me, kids come out of there just as bad as they go in. >> That's another thing. How do you I don't know what else to do. >> Do you have a case worker at all? >> Mm-m. >> No. >> No. I have the psychiatrist that have been taking her too. She's back on the sixth. >> The psychiatrist should have resources for secured facilities for treatment. >> Yeah. And basically what that is is they're under lock and key. They can't leave >> like over the over at SMI. >> Oh, worse. They don't have no freedom at at a secure facility. >> I don't know what else to do for my daughter. She says, "Oh my god, mom." She looks just like Randy. >> Did she make any threats to herself today? >> She just doesn't want to be here. >> I mean, she ain't got much of a choice. You're her guardian. And >> I'm not lying to you. I'm not >> I know. I remember dealing with you the last time. When officers spoke with the girl, the direction of the situation began to change as signs suggested the distress in the home might not be coming from just one side. >> I was out here when she came running in the yard. Me and my kid were out here. My kids inside, but I just heard her screaming and she's like, "Help, help, help." And I was like, I was further back there. So, I asked my daughter. I was like, "Is somebody in the road?" She's like, "No, mom. Somebody's in the yard." She came I mean, she's got like a right. I'm familiar with her and her grandma. >> Yeah. And I'm sure what she's told you probably hasn't been 100% the truth either. >> That's why I kind of walked away. I don't really believe everything, but she does have and like marks all on her. So, you can tell your side now. >> Please help me. >> Why don't you tell us what's going on? >> My grandma, she hurts me every time she beat me. She has a video on her phone where she was sitting on me. I couldn't breath. [laughter] Take some breath. Me since I was little. Take some breaths. >> Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe out. >> When I breathe, cuz she kicked me in the side. Ow. >> You need an ambulance. [laughter] >> She threatened to shoot me with her gun. Please don't let her hurt me. She has a big gun in the house. And she said she was going to shoot me in the head with it if my mom didn't tell her what I had told my mom. >> Breathe in. Breathe out. So, what happened today? Why are we out here? because my nose had got pierced and she got mad and when she came home my ears were pierced and she was mad and she started me because I told her I wasn't going to go outside into the camper. Y'all have to come look inside the house. It's so dirty. There's dog poop everywhere. >> How'd you get the shoulder? >> Cuz she was punching me and kicking me. She hit me in the back of the leg with a bat and my mom was on the phone and she Where's your mom at? My mom's in prison. She called off the wall. >> You told me that the last time I dealt with you. >> I've been scared to tell anybody. And every time that I've told the school and anything, they've she's made me come home with her. She's made me clean her house so that when DCF got there, it would be clean and they wouldn't take me. I have scars on my legs and on my hands where she burnt me. >> Breathe in. [laughter] >> Carefully hurt me anymore. >> Breathe in. Breathe out. She caught me on my shoulder. [laughter] >> I know. >> And my love. She kicked me and punched me and everything. And I told her I would kill her before because she's been hurting me for a long time. And I've been scared. I've been scared since I was little to make a noise because she would come in and me. Please don't let me go back there. >> What happened the last time I was out here with you? Did they change your meds? They took your Yes. [laughter] But I'm not like that anymore. Please don't let her hurt me. She said she would me. She said she would take my eyeballs out my head. She said she would pinch my teeth out. >> Who pierced your nose and your ears? I did, but she got mad and >> because she told you no because she um I had it before, but she made me let it close up and she um did it and she had told me I could redo it and I redid it and stuff and then she acted like she didn't say that I could and she started me cuz I told her not to touch me and she kept poking me on my thigh and stuff. >> What? Where's your finger from? What's that? me. Um, that's where she had hit me into the wall. >> She hit you into a wall. >> Into the wall. >> Right by your shoulder. What's that from? >> That's from where she pushed me down on the floor and starteding me and me. She You got to look on her phone. She was sitting on top of me. >> You seen any of those videos? >> She had a video on her phone where my face was all >> You want to go see if she's got any of those videos? >> Crunched up like that. She was had her thighs holding my face and she was sitting on and I couldn't breathe. Please don't. >> What happened? Where's your nose piercing? >> She ripped it out. >> Like ripped it. Ripped it or like ripped it out. >> Was it a stud kind of thing? It was like a earring little thing. >> Like a stud. >> Yeah. And she ripped it out and she ripped out my earrings, too. >> That's still That one's >> No, there's a second hole there. There's a second hole. I have two holes and she them out. When asked about her granddaughter's statements, the grandmother offered her own version of events, highlighting the confusion that often develops in long-running family conflict without open communication or outside guidance. >> So, she's saying that you have um video of you standing on top of her. >> No, that was the other day. I sat on top of her and told her to calm down. I don't have that. But you say don't touch me and I said >> don't touch me again. >> Go ahead me. I don't TAKE CARE OF YOU BECAUSE she put her hands up at me. >> I told YOU NOT TO TOUCH ME. SO DON'T TOUCH ME. >> GET OUT AND GO TO YOUR ROOM. >> YOU SIT HERE AND GET IN MY PERSONAL SPACE. >> NO. This is my house and I don't care if IT'S YOUR HOUSE. >> GET OUT. >> YOU GET TO TOUCH ME. GO. BYE. GO. >> Get out. Don't touch the room. >> No. I don't need to touch you. You either get up and go to your room. Go out. >> She deliberately scared me. >> I told her I SHOULD CALL A DAMN who that that you think is going to scare you backward and continue to do this. >> This is all. >> Yeah. See, that's what she did. These are This is what she won't do. >> TOUCH ME WHEN I TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH ME. >> WHO IS SHE to tell me to go out? Cuz I'm tired of arguing with you. So I picked the heat up after that behind. >> That's where we got to the fight. >> Now I'm going to clean my house. Go. >> Go ahead. >> I went over. >> I told her that. I went and open my door and then she's pushing ME WANT TO GO. And that's where we're fighting. And the pit went and she's me. She kicked me in the stomach at this point. >> Did you? >> Did you back? >> No, I hit her. >> And she's just on and on and on. >> So you don't have a video of you sitting on top of her? >> No, I never had a video sitting on top of her. I videoed her teleporting. That was a kid. >> Did at any point you sat on top of her? >> I did. I held her down again. Held her down. That's more physical. She's >> So you didn't sit down, right? You just hold her HAND AROUND, RIGHT? >> YES. And I scooted up to this area because the other day she knee in my back and I had that clean screw and it still >> from when she took the knee. You know how you ever have like a sibling sit on you, you get them with your knee? That's what she did to me. >> But I know where she >> Yeah, that's what she did to me. >> All righty. Visible signs of physical strain on the girl led officers to recognize this was no longer simply a disagreement about rules or behavior, but a situation raising serious concerns about a young person's well-being. >> About your other ear, too, >> both. Let me see your other one. >> I have burns on my hands, too. Those are what those are. They're burns. >> Hold on. Just cuz I'm trying to get it to focus. >> And I have it's on my legs. And she's got me scraped up here. Mhm. And I have scars here. >> And what's all And is that all from prior incidents? >> Yeah, she's hurt me ever since I was little. She kicked me in my side and it hurts to breathe. >> Okay, these guys are going to check you out. All right. >> She pushed me so many times all over. And she put her rings on to make sure it would hit me. And she's made me clean her house. Please get her to let you look in that house. She's got to look in there. It's so dirty. Well, first we're going to have these guys check you out for >> I need you to look in there. That's my only way of getting out. Please, >> we've got alternative ways. Don't worry. >> Without having to go look into a house. >> No, you need to look in that house. It's so dirty. There's dog poop everywhere. The trash is everywhere. [laughter] That place is so dirty. And the camper in there, it's dirty from her, too. And she won't let me clean it. >> Good evening. >> My shoulder hurts. And my face hurts from when she was watching me. >> Over here. right there. >> Yeah. >> Is that her? [laughter] >> I can't go back there. >> Okay. >> What's going on going to happen with her? Are we taking her to hospital? Is she going to be on or something? Do you have any other family that lives around here? >> No. >> No. Where does Where does all your family live? >> Only place that I have is my aunt Pina. She's not going to take me in. Where does she live? >> Right next to us. She's not going to take me in. She doesn't like me. Yeah. >> Well, don't mean she I don't care if she don't like you. >> She can't. She won't. She has Alzheimer's and her son is there. She only has two rooms and I there's nowhere for me to sleep. And besides my grandma can get to me there cuz she goes over there all the time. >> What if I run you up to the hospital for right now? Get you up out of here at least for a little bit. You could talk to a case worker >> and then they could check out your ribs and all that stuff. >> Okay. >> All righty. >> The bat is at the back door that she me. >> Where'd she hit you with that? >> In the leg here and in the side. >> I thought she kicked you in the side. >> No, she kicked me in the side and me with the bat. She said she would shoot me. Please. [laughter] I don't want to go. >> Taking off the wrist. >> It didn't show anything. I think it dropped. >> Okay. >> The grandma never sat on top of her, >> but she did hold her down. >> Restrain her. >> Right. Okay. >> But I mean, she's got visible injuries. >> The only evidence is would be the video. And the video is showing just argument, argument, argument. >> Doesn't even show the physical, >> right? It's just drops. >> So, you basically have to go with what you have. >> It's a little weird situation since she is the uh caregiver, >> right? And technically we don't have consent from the caregiver, >> right? >> So I just want to make sure. >> No, I mean if she's compl if she's obviously complaining of ribies and claiming that she got hit with a bat and she got I mean yep, >> she needs to be checked out as a juvenile >> with everything that I have from what she said and what grandma's told me. >> I mean her injuries. I mean you don't piercings out of a juvenile. I don't care how mad you are as a grandparent. >> You guys want to transport to advent to get checked out? That's fine. I'll let grandma know. Grandma's more than likely going to take the ride. I'll be contacting DCF and they're probably going to have to wind up coming out to Advent to grab take custody of her and place her. >> Okay, >> so sounds good. >> The grandmother also pointed out signs of strain on herself, hoping to show that she too had been under intense emotional and physical stress. >> She's going to go get checked out at the hospital. Let me just see. >> Yeah, she's she took her nails and knees and and my knees just from the other day. >> That's from today. Okay, I just need today's my other to say >> you can't say >> I don't think you telling you not told her to go. >> Okay. >> You are testing something you don't want to test. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> You want to threaten me again? >> Oh, I didn't. That wasn't a threat. >> A threat is saying you going to me is not a threat. It is. >> And when was all this? >> This was just a little bit ago. That's >> Was that before the video? >> That's the video. Just is there any way to make her act again? >> Well, let me talk to him for a second. >> Was there any batting bombs? No, there's one lady. >> But I >> What school does she go to? >> She's home. >> What's the school? What's the base school for her though? >> She was in Bel. >> Is she being homeschooled or she homes >> or is she working to get her job? No, she's being public school just like a public school in its private setting. >> Okay. >> I know. I know. >> Obviously, we show up to the fact. Obviously, we show up after everything occurs. >> Okay. So, we see the video that's there, >> right? >> Obviously, we don't know what happens >> between the video part >> and the time she runs over there. >> Okay. So, obviously there's two sides to every story. So, we have to base everything off of what we can do. >> Okay. With that being said, today you're going to be placed under a you are. Let me explain to you why. There's a difference between Listen, there's a difference between discipline and there's a difference between causing to a person. >> Okay. >> You told you told me in front of my partner when he was talking to you >> that you pulled the earrings out of her nose and her ears. >> Yes, I did. >> Right. I'm not a lie. >> Right. You're not allowed to do that. Okay. >> Okay. because by that you're causing injury to a person and that's a juvenile not allowed Florida state statues. Okay, that's not considered a form of discipline. >> Okay, >> the bump she got on her head, the scrape she got on her shoulder, all that. We don't know how that got there. Okay, and I'm assuming it was probably during whatever occurred inside the house. I'm just saying. >> So, are they inside the house or outside the house? >> Uh, they're inside. They're slipped. I mean, one of us would have to walk with just we don't know if you got any in the house or but I don't know how your shoes are going to react. >> I'm not going to do they're going to give you shoes over there. >> Yeah, they've got slides there to get a back out. >> You'll get a bomb. Yeah, you'll have to have somebody bond you. >> Okay. >> Now, you have somebody that can take care of your dogs. >> No, right at the second. >> But you you do have somebody. >> Okay. Do you have your phone on you? No, it's okay. >> You want to bring that with you? That way you can get phone numbers out of it and make phone calls. >> Unless you know the number. >> Well, I searched the PEOPLE THAT at the jail they let you get numbers out of your phone if you need to. That's why I'm saying if you bring it with you, you can. >> They're friendly, right? For the most part. >> I don't trust her. I swear to God, I don't trust her cuz I TRUST HER. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO DO NOTHING STUPID. >> OKAY. Swear to God. I'm right. I don't want to have to turn into something. >> No, that's not that's not >> I know. >> Give me one second. >> Okay. >> Based on observations and documented evidence, officers reached a [music] difficult conclusion. The situation would need to move into the legal system. It was a reminder that officers step in when a family is no longer able to ensure a child's safety on its own. >> You going to let her go in there? >> No, I'm going to let her. >> I know. Hey, >> I'm not GOING TO TELL YOU. HEY, HEY, HEY. >> COME ON. IT'S OKAY. IT'S OKAY. IT'S OKAY. NO. NO. >> I'M A BAD MOVE. >> Come on. >> I'm getting it. >> No. OKAY. >> Forget it. I'M JUST GOING BY MYSELF. I don't want to buy you. >> They're not going to buy me. It's fine. >> Even her going to the house like that by herself. That's a problem. She goes in there and decides to commit suicide. That's all right. She goes in there and grabs a gun him. That's all right. Because we're scared of a few dogs. >> HEY, SHUT UP. >> You got to go in there. You can't You got to watch it. I've got eyes ON HER. HEY, HEY, HEY. >> She go. >> Yeah, >> they're taking me to jail. I might need your help. >> You can't just let them go. >> And then she'll grab her phone right off the counter. When I was at the door, I see her. >> I love you. I'm sorry. The grandmother was charged with cruelty toward a child without great bodily harm. Under Florida law, she could face up to 5 years in prison or probation along with a $5,000 fine. When family conflict goes unresolved without understanding and support, children are often the ones most affected. They don't choose the environment they grow up in. They rely on the adults around them to make choices that keep them safe. They argued, shared the same home with the child, yet overlooked the unusual signs on his body. Was it simply a lack of awareness or was there more beneath the surface? >> The baby was >> Yeah. >> Why was the baby hurt? >> I guess she got by something when they was in there testing me or whatever the case may be. >> On July 14th, 2024, [music] Lake County deputies carried out a welfare check after a neighbor reported worrying conditions involving a child inside an apartment. At first, it seemed like a routine disturbance response, but once they arrived, what they discovered behind the closed door made the situation far more serious. Someone could go jump out that way cuz I think there's a balcony like a Well, then it's accessessible. I don't think it's in on this one. The guy def had to defend himself. Who? Who's the said that? I'm going look at through the window. There's more over here. >> Can you see anything? >> No. All the windows are blind. No lights are on. >> These don't have traditional keys. different. I saw they turned off the lights. >> Yeah. Yeah. The light lights were off and then uh going back I checked again. They turned the lights on from the bedroom >> and then it turned back off. I could see that there were uh there was like a male changing or something and then cut off the lights. >> Sheriff's office. Come outside. >> I know. I know. That was kind of nice. I'm going to try and call that number. If they don't answer, at least try and see like if you can hear anything from over there. >> Your call has been forwarded to voice. The person you're trying to reach is not available at the town. >> He was wearing a white long t-shirt apparently, but she changed. >> Oh, that's a complaint. >> Yeah. >> So, she did see him. >> One of them did. Not the initial complaint, but then next. >> Oh, okay. So, that's next complaint. >> And then the baby is like I guess maybe a year old. >> You saw the baby? >> Yeah. He was running with the baby in his arm, bouncing people to help him. She was chasing him down. THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE. IF YOU DON'T COME THE FRONT DOOR NOW, WE'RE GOING TO KICK THE DOOR IN. THIS IS THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE. COME TO THE FRONT DOOR NOW AND EXIT THE APARTMENT. IF YOU DO NOT, WE WILL MAKE ENTRY INTO YOUR APARTMENT. That's why we have that thing. Did anybody uh see them go into this apartment? I know that you saw the people in there. Did you see any injuries or anything like that? >> No. >> In cases involving children, silence is never a small matter. Officers had to enter the apartment where they met two adults. Sheriff's office. >> Dude, go get that number. Try to make contact on the phone. >> Hang on. I probably have it. >> The number of I got last minute. HANDS. HANDS. SHOW UP IN HERE WITH YOU. WALK OUT TO US RIGHT NOW. WALK OUT TO >> WALK THAT WAY. Walk that way. Walk that way. >> HEY, SHERIFF'S OFFICE. ANYBODY IN HERE NOW? >> COME OUT WITH your hands up. >> Put your hands right now. >> I DON'T CARE. COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP. >> Take him out there. >> What's going on, man? Uh-huh. >> Why you guys come to the door? >> We scared. >> Scared? >> Yes, sir. >> Why? >> I guess you >> scared of her? >> No. >> Oh, there's We spound a trail. You all right? >> Yeah. Yeah. That was after the fact. I just had got home. I had went and um went to work, >> came back. I guess she got into it with just >> So, it's not you. >> No, no, no, no. It was the baby. >> The baby was dead. >> Yeah. >> Why was the baby? >> I guess she got by something when they was in there or whatever the case. Okay. >> There's cameras out here. So, if they're if you're lying, you're going to go to jail. You understand that, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, there was it wasn't you arguing. >> I I came in after the fact and went to talk and everything like um basically telling it like when I came outside to let people know to um call the police cuz I was panicking about being I just got in from um doing trash down the road in Winter Garden. Like I said, I'm doing I'm just scared. Just nervous. >> I didn't know what was going on. I don't I don't do I don't we I ain't did nothing. I don't want to do nothing. I was just trying to >> How bad is it cut? They need uh check it out. Does any stitches? I would like them to look at the baby. The baby. If the baby's hurt, I want paramedics to check out the baby. >> The baby's the one that's >> Yeah. >> We're going to have the paramedics come check out things. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> While speaking with the mother, the explanation for the marks on the child's body remained uncertain. Conflicting statements led officers to take her in for further review because when children are involved, safety must come first. >> So, you're not under arrest. All right. We just got a lot of stuff going on. Due to the fact of what just happened and that you're in handcuffs, okay, I'm just going to read you your Miranda warning. Does it mean that you're under arrest or that you're in trouble? >> And you're you're recording is off. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, you're reading my Miranda rights for So, why did you put me in handcuffs? >> To secure you based on what we've got going on. >> But we've been Hold on. We've been knocking and knocking knocking on the door. >> Correct. Nobody >> and I've been scared. I've been scared. >> So, right now we're dealing with a situation. I don't know what's going on, >> right? >> But because you I put you in handcuffs. >> I'm just going to read you this warning. Doesn't mean that you're under arrest. >> Okay. >> I was scared and I'm scared. That's why I didn't answer. >> That's why you didn't answer your door. >> I'm scared. >> All right. Well, that didn't turn out any better, did it? >> I'm not I'm not familiar with like this kind of stuff. So, >> I've been calling >> and I answered. >> Yeah, I answered for some. I answered on my biggest phone. >> I called you 10 times. Exactly. And I answer. I can show you proof on my daughter's phone that I answered. But for some reason, her audio, for some reason, I've been calling her today. She can't hear me. So, you couldn't hear me. But I can hear the woman. >> Oh, no. I picked up and I called back. No, I picked up multiple times and I called back. >> So, you weren't the guy that the witnesses saw running around with the baby in your arms just like >> Yeah. I came in after the fact. That was already after the fact that I had just walked in. I like I didn't hear I just heard her screaming and yelling like, "What was going on?" I seen >> you were out here or inside? >> Inside. >> So you weren't outside at all? >> Yeah, I did come outside. That was after the fact. I came out here telling them telling cuz I seen somebody in the car. So I was telling them to call on me. So I was nervous. >> So then why would you open the door for us? >> This isn't making any sense. >> What do you mean? >> We've been here this whole time. You didn't open the door. >> I was nervous. >> We thought that you were injured. So >> I ain't want to be in the middle of >> Well, you told her to call the police. >> I did. >> Sir, this ain't adding up. >> Yeah. I think that you all were in the argument. >> No, I don't think so. >> People were calling up saying that you were saying or somebody was saying something about stabbing a guy or something like that. And if you have the baby in your office because I have a baby. I don't >> I understand that, but I want to know how the baby got injury. >> I don't know. >> You've been here this whole time. You didn't ask. >> No, I'm saying obviously something happened with the baby. That was the first thing. >> Okay. So, what happened to the baby? >> I don't know. I guess he fell on something. We got a lot to figure out because he's got injuries. The kids got injuries. There was a bunch of There was a bunch of witnesses going around saying that a female was chasing a guy around with a kid in their arms. Kind of like how he's holding the baby now. And then the male was saying, "Don't me." No. >> Okay. Well, that's why we're here. You had the chance to open the door. Lot of things going now. >> How do I have a warrant all of a sudden? But >> that is a lot. I've been paying my child support every week. I don't have no warrant, bro. Y'all know I don't have no >> We're sending it off for confirmation right now. >> Oh, y'all know I don't have a warrant. >> No, sir. We're not making it up to you. >> You are making it up. >> No, we're not. >> I'm walking to the police car, sir. In a lane with no shoes on me. >> No shoes on. >> But you said I wasn't detained, so why would I? >> Well, you are detained for what? >> I said you're not under arrest. >> Okay. So, what am I detained for? >> Oh, she's on the phone here in >> sir. Please >> have a seat. Please, >> sir. >> We're going to get right back to you. Have a seat, please. >> And I feel like you're not beyond. You know how it go. Come on now. Have a seat. You know how it go. I'm telling you, the perpetrator just drove past you guys. >> Okay. Well, we've been outside of your house for like 4 hours. >> And I've been scared. I didn't know what I didn't want. I DIDN'T WANT THEM. I didn't know if he was outside. Her dad was outside or anything. I see. And I see you guys. I'm scared. >> Well, Scoo, >> I'm scared. >> You tried calling us multiple times after the fact. Why didn't you talk to dispatch? >> Well, no. The I told him the phone died. When I called back, the phone died. >> The phone. >> Have a seat for now. >> Information from witnesses helped clarify part of the situation. This was no longer just a family disagreement, but a question of whether a safe and supportive [music] environment had been provided for the child. >> Pop up here with you guys. >> All right. So, who do you call? Are we both there? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> I try to call, but >> I got you. Well, then we'll start with you and if you just pop in and say anything, just go along with it. Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, what all did you see here to start from the beginning? >> I don't see anything. We were both going to go pick up our friend at the airport. So, we open up the door and immediately heard him screaming. >> Open up the apartment door or the car door? >> Our apartment door cuz we're right above them. Basically, we open up the door. We hear screaming, wailing. Don't touch me. Get away from me. >> Male voice or female voice? We couldn't tell. >> We couldn't tell. We thought it sounded like a guy voice first. He was like, "Get the dick away from me." Stop smacking me. Stop smacking me. We're like, "Work the door." But we like kept it like packed open so we keep hearing what's going on. And then like it just wasn't dying down. There's a baby crying in the whole time. They're back and forth. What the heck is so close? What the They were like, "Call the cops. Call the cops." >> I just got here. I just got here. I have proof. If you want to get my phone, >> we were here the entire time and nobody came out. >> Okay. I just got here before y'all got right before y'all got. >> Even if you just got there, you still have to open the door. >> Listen, this isn't my home. This isn't my home. First off, >> so you don't have legs that can walk to the door. >> First off, I didn't know what was going on. I don't know nothing about nothing. Y'all can't do none of that. Y'all are trying, bro. Y'all can keep trying this crazy stuff that y'all are trying with me, and y'all know is going That's cap. I had proof that I was at a whole job when all this supposedly transpired. And then y'all are hitting me with some other How How do I have a warrant for something that I'm paying? >> It's a RIT for child support. >> When did the Can you tell me the day that the warrant came out now? >> Sure. How about you tell them about what happened today while I look that up? No. Why you letting do this to me? Why you letting them take everything from me? I worship I feel I told this man, the girl told me the woman officer told me that he would be able to speak to me. You guys had me in the car for hours. You didn't ask any questions. Barely. Nobody get any of my side. Nothing. Don't leave her by herself in one s. WHATEVER THEY TOLD YOU TO NAME US, THEY WAS NOT OUT THERE THE whole time. And they was not out there. I'm not no criminal. They ain't trying. >> Oh man. >> The two adults were charged with domestic battery, child, and endangering the welfare of a child. Under Florida law, they could face penalties of up to 11 years in prison and $11,000 in fines. The law exists not only to respond when things go wrong, but also to remind us that children need to be protected in time. Sometimes protection begins with simple thing, a neighbor choosing to speak up instead of staying silent. All it took was one unanswered message for everything to spiral faster than anyone expected. She texts my dad and on like a mean way said, "Um, can you watch her baby?" >> On June 11th, 2023, a mother texted her ex-husband [music] asking him to watch their child. However, the tense tone of the message led him to refuse. From there, unresolved feelings after the divorce quickly resurfaced, showing how communication breakdowns can lead to unpredictable outcomes. It was a girl, like a girl that was that lives in front of us and she came over here with her car and then she said she needed to talk to my talk to them and she she came in. She she let the her baby over there was over there and um she she came inside and then she she tried to go in that room where she was in to talk to her and then she said, "No, you can't go in there." And my teach said that she was yelling and then they she started her in the face. >> Who is the the lady? She lives right there in the blue house. >> Yes. Her name is Kira and she left. >> She left though. >> She left. >> She went that way >> in a car or on foot. >> Car. >> Can you ask her if she knows why the lady was over here? >> Yes. Cuz um my she she texted my dad and on like a mean way said um can you watch her baby? And he said no. She text your dad? >> Yes. Cuz they used to be together and they got divorced and then um so she texted him in a mean way and then he said he said no cuz she said it in a mean way I think. I guess and then and then she came over here like just now and then said it she she's trying to talk to us. She was trying to talk to her but we >> Who's her? Your mom? >> Yes. >> We want to make a report. She's uh my baby mom, but uh she's been acting up so crazy. I think she's up to something or whatever. But she sent me a messenger. They wanted my wife. And yes, yes, I do. >> Had her own daughter, put it put the daughter in her hands, pushed her way through. Kira's daughter on the couch. >> But she does not want to press charges. Okay. All right. I need to take a picture. I tell her I need to take a picture of her face. >> Okay. Come over here. Stand against the wall. >> Should with the right hand or the left hand? >> Right hand or left hand. She know how many times she said she Okay. Okay. All right. Um I will call you and let you know what if I find her today or not. >> After receiving the report, officers opened a case file, gathered information, and issued a warrant. At this stage, the matter still seemed routine, like many family disagreements that might have been resolved if emotions had settled in time. >> No. >> Yes, I am. >> Listen to me. You got a child in the car. Let's not make this a lot harder than it is. >> In the car, and I'm going to Z to get my other kid. >> I need you to get out. >> I'm not getting out. >> Turn the car off. >> Do not drive away. >> I'm not I'm going to Z. I'm going. Do not listen. If you leave, you're going to catch more charges. >> Give me whatever you're going to give me. Listen, you're going to make it worse. You're going to make it worse. >> You're going to make it worse. >> Whatever. I'm going to stop. >> The light is green. >> Do not leave. Do not leave. >> Do not drive away. Do not drive away. >> Driving away. >> The situation shifted suddenly when the woman drove off with three children in the car, turning a personal dispute into a potential [music] safety concerns for the children. slow speed right now. I'm right behind Roel. >> What's the direction of travel? >> We're at 15 mph. We're heading towards 40 on a she got one foot deployment, but she's still going. >> All right. Just [screaming] be advised, Kilo, that there's three juveniles in that car. >> Get ahead of us. >> I think she's trying to go back to the Mustang. Try to stop sticker again. >> She says she was trying to get back where she said she was trying to go. >> Oh, she's trying to go around your other side. >> Northbound on 13th Avenue. Northbound on 13th Avenue. It's still low speeds. Uh 120. Both right vehicles on our vehicle are are flat. Pulling into Z. Stop. You're going to get dog bit. >> Stop or you're going to get dog bit. Put your hands behind your back now. YOU'RE GOING TO GET DOG BIT. >> GET ON THE GROUND OR YOU'RE GOING TO GET DOG BIT. GET ON THE GROUND. >> You're going to hell. You know that. Wouldn't be the first time I've been told that. >> You going too? >> I know. >> All right. As long as you know. >> Oh, you got to put two cups on me. What the? You already got me caught. >> Stay down. >> Why you trying to make me STAY DOWN? WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT? >> See if this Ari will let you get off. >> See if Ari will next car. M. Hey, mine's the next car. >> HEY, STOP. STOP TRYING TO TALK TO MY DAUGHTER. TALK TO ANYONE. >> YES, I AM. >> YES, I AM. Come on in. >> No. >> Not helping y'all. Y'all ain't helping me. >> You got the legs. Hold on. Hold on. >> Cooperate. >> I'm not cooperating with y'all. Y'all mother. >> Don't kick. Stop. >> You >> stop y'all. >> Hey, shut off me. The woman was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, [music] child injurement, domestic violence, and resisting arrest. Under Florida law, she could face a sentence of up to 16 years in prison. There is no perfect formula for parenting. Everyone experiences moments of exhaustion and frustration. But [music] when adults pause and choose calmer words, children are far more likely to stay safe and feel secure. This call highlights ongoing tension between the parents of a 18-month-old child. >> What's going on there? Um, I'm just being tormented very badly. Um, I'm trying to sleep after my third shift job and I'm getting finger in my ear very hard to me. I'm getting in my face like not abuse but like to like enough to sting. You know what I mean? Uh, my baby dad. >> On May 14th, 2023, officers responded to an apartment after a report of a dispute between a young couple. The situation went beyond a typical disagreement [music] with raised voices recording on phones and the child unintentionally present in a very [music] tense atmosphere. When officers arrived, both parents were still visibly emotional, so they were separated while each person's account was documented. >> My son outside this fat war. >> Okay, we're not we're not we're not calling anybody names right now. >> I don't give a >> He's definitely so I could get on recording what I needed to get on recording. He took all my He took all my He threw it. He threw it there and No, I do not. He >> You won't even let me take my son to get a >> Take him. >> No. Go yourself. You want >> See what I mean? See what I mean? Here, take him. No. Oh, you want him so bad, huh? >> Austin, stop right now. >> Because >> Okay, I'll talk to you in a minute like I did last time. I'll talk to you in a minute like I did last time. The reason he's The reason he's getting in a blanket right now is cuz he was in the bathtub and I needed to get on video what I needed to get on video as proof. And I wasn't going to leave my son in a bathtub unoccupied. That's why my son's right now. Cuz I wasn't going to leave in a bath full of water so I could get this on video. >> Here, watch the whole thing. Here, take it. No, take it. Watch it, please. Yes. >> Okay. Don't look. Don't look. He's You don't want to Hold on. Right there in those shorts. He had all my stuff. Um, okay. You can watch from here. There's no more. >> You're going to look like a >> recording. So, what did you take of yours again? >> My w like everything, bro. Like, he just threw I have like $75 in my wallet plus a card with like $300 on it. Can you take this, please? My son. >> Like, I'm so sick of this. He did that while I was talking to you. grabbed all my, bro. My name tag, my makeup, my like I can't make this up. Like, bro, I literally >> Why Why was he Was he getting in the shower? >> No, he did it so I would stop recording him so I wouldn't have proof that he had my Sorry, I'm not trying to leave. >> You're not leaving. >> You're not leaving. >> Watch him not leave. >> Where's your stuff at in the garage? >> I don't know. Over the garage. The roof. Hey, what kind of stuff are we talking about here? >> I don't know what all He took everything out of the bag. >> Hi, big man. >> Say hello. >> Say hello. >> Close my door. >> Get the guilty. He was literally trying to leave before y'all got here. >> Like I'm so over being with constantly out of his pocket. >> You'll see makeup chargers. Okay. >> Okay. >> And this is whenever we showed up. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Here. Take this. >> So, he still has my wallet. Um, and I'll I'll collect everything else and let you know what else to test cuz I know exactly what I had and what I didn't. >> Okay. You want to hang outside the door for a minute? >> Yeah. I'm just going to put my son in here really quick cuz he's getting heavy in his literally have a video of me naked. >> The husband [music] said the conflict began when his wife took his wallet, but she quickly disagreed, pointing instead to trust issues that had been building over time. >> Do and I showed this officer right here. >> She he she doesn't have our one and a half-year-old in a bathtub. [crying] [laughter] >> Let me ask you this. Why why why are you why are you antagonizing her by taking her stuff? >> She has my wallet. I just told him. REMEMBER I TOLD YOU SHE does that? >> Dude, please. >> Are you dumb as you talking to the cops? >> Excuse me. I have to go collect my stuff. >> Go collect it. Where's my wallet? Please hear me now. Please. Holy. >> Here's the deal. Here's the deal, >> dude. How do you know she took your wallet? >> I don't have it on video. But as soon as she started recording, when I said, "Prove, prove I have your right before she start turned on recording, she goes, "Good luck finding your wallet." Just like that. And blew me a kiss. I'm not lying to you. Please hear me out, dude. Jeez, I HAVEN'T GOT THE SHOWER, BRO. >> SO, you're saying she took your wallet and then in retaliation, you took her stuff out of her purse and threw it over the garage. >> As soon as she came back in here, I was like, "Where's my wallet?" Cuz I I noticed it was missing. And she's like, "Good luck finding your wallet." And then she goes to her diaper bag and that's when she realized that she had makeup. >> Okay, that's fine. I'll go talk to her some more. Go ahead and do what you have to do to get your son dressed or finish giving a bath. Do whatever you have to do. Okay. >> All right. I'll be right back. Give me one minute. >> I ain't going to leave to go to work. I'm going to go here to go to >> So what? Why did you take Austin's wallet? >> I didn't. >> Okay. Do you know where it's at? >> No. >> He's He He said that you implied that you knew where it was. >> No, he didn't. He's lying to you. >> Okay. So, >> he's straight lying to your face. He's mad. >> Do you know where his wallet is? >> No. Check his card, please. Are you allowed? >> No. >> Am I allowed? >> And uh if he tells you >> I wanted to wait till you got out. >> Hell no. Get out of my mother car. I own that. >> No, sir. That's my car. I own it. It's my me. Get her out. I'm not disrespecting YOU. GET OUT MY >> WHY IS IT BECAUSE YOUR WIFE >> don't go to his car if he doesn't want to. Okay. >> No, I'm getting my stuff. >> Okay. >> Don't Don't go. >> I told her to get out of your car, Austin. Go ahead and go back inside with the son. So, um I guess allegedly he's alleging she took his wallet and then he went and took a bunch of stuff out of her purse and threw it then threw it over the garage. So, I'm depending on them both out of doc. There's no physical allegations. So, just doc stuff. He took this, I took this and now they're just yelling at each other. There's still nothing here allegationwise that would constitute somebody going away in handcuffs and us being able to forcefully remove somebody out of the household. So, >> who's going to leave once those tickets are done? >> Austin's trying to go to work allegedly. We're just going to tell him we're just going to tell him he has to leave. I mean, we can't deal with this all day. So, >> in situations like this, officers can't jump to conclusions. [music] After reviewing what happened, both individuals were issued disorderly conduct citations, a reminder [music] that losing control of emotions in heated moments can still lead to consequences. >> Haley, here's the deal. Okay, I told you if we come back out here, one or both of you might get cited for disorder of conduct. Okay, with you guys engaging with each other, yelling, screaming outside of with each other in a public parking lot to the whole entire complex on video, you were screaming at him, right? Giving giving my [ __ ] back. >> I was not I was not I was talking just like this. Okay, I understand. >> And whenever you whenever you whenever you rip open his car door and put your camera in his face. >> I didn't rip it open. Nicely opened it. >> Things like that. All right, that's antagonizing, right? If if there's and I told you if there's an issue, call us back out here, right? And then obviously you went to re-engage with him whenever he was doing whenever he was doing stupid stuff, right? And then obviously Absolutely. I mean, you're just you chased him out of the apartment and put your phone right in his face and told him to give you your back. >> No, sir. Can you explain myself? The reason I did what I did is so I had I was trying to get the evidence I needed to prove that he had my wallet. That is what I was doing. If you listen to the video, >> I saw I saw him I saw him put his things out of your pocket >> and I was not yelling at all. I will let you relisten to it. I was not yelling. I was not aggressing anything. I was staying calm and I was simply recording the situation so I had proof for when you guys got here. I was not escalating the situation at all. I >> I wouldn't say that from what I saw you were simply recording the situation, but you were definitely engaging with him. All right. >> To keep him from leaving with my $300, >> right? But that's not that's that's our job to intervene if if he's doing that, right? Not your job with, you know, obviously your child and your hands and things like that. All right. And obviously you running out of the house, walking out of the house, recording him while he's taking your stuff and you have a baby that could cause inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm to anybody. >> He was wrapped up. >> Okay. >> So therefore, he was not un he wasn't. No one could see anything. He was wrapped up in a blanket and you >> I would No, no. I'm I'm not I'm not saying that. >> Okay. But you can't look at me and tell me that you think this is right. >> I don't think it's right. >> So you're still going to do it even though you not right? >> I'm I'm saying this whole situation isn't right. >> Right. when we leave. I mean, immediately it's just >> trying to get my belongings back. I did not physically touch him >> that he told you when he left the first time >> that one or both of us could get cited, but >> I told I told I told him to leave I told him to leave you alone and I told you to leave him alone >> and he didn't leave me alone and you guys caused me to retaliate by recording. So that's where I'm kind of lost on why I'm being cited cuz I wasn't yelling, screaming, anything. So what I Okay, so was I supposed to let him leave with my money and potentially spend it and then me and then me I have to stay here even longer because it's not like you guys are just going to give me my money back right away. >> We didn't take your money. >> Exactly my point. So if he were to have left and I left the situation alone, first of all, he could have thrown my wallet away. He could have done whatever with it and you guys wouldn't know because it wasn't even on video or anything. I was simply recording the situation like many of your Kyhoga Falls officers have told me to do. And now I'm getting citated for it. >> Getting a citation for being disorderly in public. That's what this is. >> Okay. So then can you explain to me how I was being disorderly in public? And this is actually private property. >> Doesn't matter, man. >> So how is that public? How is it public if it's private? >> We are standing We are standing in the We are standing in the public. We We are We are We are open in the public. Right. So So So if if you were on if you were in the Creger's parking lot, do you consider that the public? Cuz that's private property, too. You know what I mean? It's own it's owned by somebody, right? >> I get what you're saying. So I understand what you're saying. >> So So essenti So essentially enough so essentially there there it takes two people to engage in an incident, right? Okay. So with that being said, >> but I wasn't yelling. I wasn't screaming. I didn't put my hands on him. I wasn't threatening. I wasn't, "Hey, can you give me my No, you're not leaving. Sorry. You're going to give me my stuff and then you can leave." How is that screaming and yelling? You can rewatch the video, sir. I was not yelling in any way, shape, or form. I'm talking louder now than I was talking then. I I feel like you immediately starting to record him in the apartment, which recording could potentially be a good thing for evidence, right? But whenever you're up in his face the entire time, I could see how that could be antagonizing, right? The camera was in very close proximity of him, right? So So, so, so the I'm not I'm not saying you started anything, but I'm saying you were invol you because you're involved in it, right? >> Proof he has my wallet. I'm not going to get that back. Huh? So, I got cited for no reason. Well, well, if I go if I go in there and I issue him a citation and I go, Austin, I we have to get her wallet back. And he goes, I I don't know where her wallet is. What are we going to do? >> Citate him and not me cuz I didn't do my stuff. >> As he should. >> You're both getting >> I should not place to argue that is in the court on your court date. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. It's a disorder. >> Sorry. I was I was reading off the So, it's a disorderly conduct citation and your court date is for this Thursday 2 p.m. to the Kaga Falls Mayor's Court, which is checked right there. Your personal appearance is not required. It's just a simple citation that you can pay and not appear in court. Are you? >> By this point, the husband appeared calmer, [music] a noticeable contrast to the earlier tension. >> Are you can appear in court if you would like to. Okay. All right. Do you have any questions for me? >> Why is he such a >> Who's that? >> I don't know. Whoever that is. >> That's not a question for me. >> Oh, okay. Well, I figured I >> All right. That's understandable. All right, Austin, here's the deal. Okay. Um, you guys are both getting disorderly conduct citations, obviously. Um, Great, dude. >> That's fantastic. So, obviously you had her stuff. You threw it over there. You're screaming, cussing at her. She's cussing at you. She ripped open your door. She's in your face with the camera. Listen, I felt she I felt she was antagonizing you as well. >> She was obviously I get that she's getting she just got her citation, too. Okay, you guys equally engaged. I told her I don't care who started it. You guys are both out in the public screaming, yelling. Baby's naked. You know what I mean? You're throwing her. Baby's naked. You guys are arguing. I mean, your guys' job is not to I don't know what I'm trying to say, man. Like, dude, >> you're saying you don't feel like she's a good caretaker. And >> no, she's not good. She screams at him, yells at him like he's like 10 years old. Uh uh. She let him fall in the tub. Like I said, barely any food right now for little homie. >> Okay. Now, you guys you guys are very young. >> Yes. Very. >> You're 20, right? Yes, sir. >> And she's 21. Yes, sir. >> And you guys have a year and a half old, >> sir. >> And you guys obviously the relationship's not going very well. Um, and you don't think it's going to be it's you think it's beyond repair? >> It's way beyond repair. And I And honestly, it I was balling my eyes out crying cuz I was over her like I was dating someone and she was living in she said she needed she was going to come back. She wanted a family and all this other [ __ ] I let her come back and she sets me back to right back to where I was trying to get over her trying to figure out what to do to get used to not seeing my kid because once she leaves I'm not ever going to be a kid. I have to work two jobs right now because the is working but not helping pay for >> well listen man you're in a tough spot. Um >> and now she's going to go in there and break my too and I already know it. I'm already going to have to be prepared for that and uh you know I don't know. Hey, Michael. Michael, >> if you use 911 to call dispatch, >> you're going to get arrested if you call 911 for a non-emergency reason. I just have to let you know. >> Both adults were cited for disorderly conduct. Earlier, the woman had [music] also filed a domestic complaint. In your opinion, what would be the most suitable steps to help ensure the child grows up in a stable [music] and supportive environment? The story of responsibility and unfolded once more. This time in Georgia, where a one-year-old boy was left without adult supervision inside a home. >> We look in the car, there's a giant empty bottle of liquor. There's marijuana. There's pills. >> On September 20th, 2024 in Valdasta, Georgia, police were called about a one-year-old boy temporarily without adult supervision. Upon arrival, they spoke with the father who shared information relevant to the situation. Uh-huh. I heard >> somebody trying to take our baby. I'm a dad, so I said nobody's leaving here. >> I don't know what's going on or anything. >> Yeah, they had already called us. >> We're just trying to make >> Yeah, you can leave. >> Hey, I hope you get this figured out, man. >> Appreciate it, man. >> All right, tell me about what's going on. >> Grandmother's house. Mother of my child been living here with her grandma. She's been here and there, not really coming home. Uh, grandma texted and called me early this morning, woke me up and said, "Uh, it's emergency over here. I can show you said you need to come get the baby. Emergency call me and then I went ahead and head that way. She said that the baby was unattended. The grandmother got home and my 1 and 1/2year-old is in the room naked by himself. Then all of a sudden the mom gets home and says she was barely gone to get diapers or something. But diapers in the home, there's a sleeve of diapers in the car already. We look in the car, there's a giant empty bottle of liquor. There's marijuana. There's pills. There just a lot of stuff. I don't know if she's been running around the sun like that. I don't really know what to do. She was trying to take a kid and leave. Her mom has the car keys and I just was right here and I didn't know what to do. I didn't want her. She's trying to leave with my son in the car and I just don't know what's going to happen. So, I just was like, I'm just going to call y'all in the middle of trying to get custody right now. >> Yeah. So, [snorts] y'all are having a y'all are having some sort of court episode right now trying to figure out custody and everything. >> Yes, there's a date October 20 already. And um I just grandma's got to go to work and didn't want to leave the baby like that cuz the grandma was staying with somebody else. So you know it's not on her and she just when she gets home to get her things for work she realizes he's supposed to have the baby. >> What time did she call you about him being >> 8:08? >> And you got here and he was still >> I got here and everyone was here but I didn't get here till um see what time I got here. Oh, I didn't tell you. Probably got here about 30 minutes 20 30 minutes later cuz I texted her at 8:23. I'm getting off I75 exit now. So, I'm pulling up at 8:28. So, I got here 8:30 cuz I live in a high. >> Okay, I got you. You got your ID on you? Just real quick. >> I know I technically can't take him right now, but I was told to pick him up. Usually, if they allow me, I can. We just didn't want her to with him intoxicated or anything. Soon after the child's grandmother arrived with him for a visit. >> I'm sorry. What? For the day and calm down. >> Let me figure about Let me talk to her for a minute and figure out what's going on. You're who are I just I'm okay. Tell me about what happened from like from when you got here. About what happened. So you got here about what time? >> What time did you get here? What time did we get here? I don't even know. >> So, you got here and go go from there. >> He was here and she wasn't. >> Mhm. And And he was just in the house. Was he like wandering around or was he in his room or was >> No, he's in the room with the door shut. >> Okay. All right. And she's in the she is in the car right now. >> The mother sitting in a nearby car [music] eventually spoke up. However, she denied the father's accusations and shared the difficulties she faced in raising her child. Listen, talk about what's going on right now. >> Me and my mom never had the best relationship. >> Me and my ex fiance are not together anymore. >> Um, my mom came in yelling and screaming, talking about I'm not in there with my son. I was in the kitchen. Like, I She just spazzed. And so, of course, I get loud and I spaz back because I don't understand why everybody's coming at me like I don't want to take care of my kid. And she already knows that he's trying to take my child away from me. He was away from me for a whole week. never spent the night away from him because he pressed charges against me and I was in the hospital when he did it. My right hip is broken. My leg is all messed up. I'm not out here partying. I had him out door dashing till about 4:00 in the morning and I can pull that up. Other than that, I came in here. I put him to bed. I came out here for a diaper and some milk. And by the time I went back in there, she was losing her crap, screaming. and her and her friend. I don't know what they go out and do at night. But y'all should have asked the the police department about this house cuz I didn't even want to bring my kid here. I just didn't have anywhere else to bring him. I did not leave my kid. My kid goes everywhere I go. We door dash together. He goes in the store with me. I'm just trying to figure out what's what's going on. That's all. >> Everybody just wants to spazz and make me lose my child cuz she lost her kids. And of course, he's trying to present me to be this crazy person, and I'm not. >> She even claimed that the family was trying to discredit her in order to gain custody of the child. >> You got your ID on you? >> Can you open that front door? It's in the door. Red wallet. >> In the red wallet? >> Yeah. >> This one right here? >> Yes. Am I going to jail? Like, >> I'm still just trying to figure out what all happened. That's all I'm trying to figure out right now. As far as I know, nobody's going to jail. who thinks that I'm the do the piece of [ __ ] and then to call him of all people knowing that he's trying to ruin my life. I didn't get to see my son for a whole week because he put a restraining order against me. I couldn't get my son's clothes after I got my son. Like that's that that don't have nobody's best interest at heart. You won't even let me get the clothes off my back. >> All right. Well, give me just a second. We're going to talk for just a minute. We're going to find out what we're going to do. All right. Faced with conflicting statements, police had to remain impartial, examining the situation from all sides to ensure fairness. >> Ma'am, >> am I supposed to talk to anyone? >> Not right now. We're having to just go through our normal process of who all to notify and whatnot about something like this. >> I mean, how am I supposed to prove that I can leave? >> I'm here. My car my car is parked all the way back against the garage. Okay. >> Like, my car has not left for another car to even come. Like, I don't I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to prove that I didn't leave. Oh, >> okay. I'm just saying we're being told other things by other people. So, we just we talked to everybody, see what all their statements say. >> Nobody talked to me. >> Yeah, she did. I watched her. I stood right there. >> See, while everybody else is running around, >> she talked to you and got your full statement there. >> We didn't even get home till maybe 4:00 in the morning. So, what would I have done between 4:00 and 7 and have just been back here? >> Who is this now? Then my my ex fiance has a restraining order against me. So, how's he even here? Watch out, baby. I'mma pour the juice in the bottle. >> Hey, and pour it in. >> Hi. >> Yeah. In. In. >> Uh-oh. >> Oh, Miss Bonita. >> An unfamiliar woman suddenly arrived at the scene to pick up the child. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hi. Can I help you? >> She called me to come get the baby. >> Uh, we'll see about that. >> No, that's why I just came up. I don't know what's going on. I got you. We're We're investigating some stuff right now and we'll see we'll see about that. Okay. >> Okay. >> You just a family friend or >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> When police mentioned that the case might be referred to DCFS, the mother became visibly upset during the interaction with authorities. >> She's the one that raised me when my mother left me outside to sleep. >> I got you. It's nice to have people like that you can count on. >> Especially when people like this are your mother. >> Family friend that she called to come pick up the kid. Okay. >> So, she's willing to give her Yeah, we'll see about that. We still might We might still need to get contact defects and see >> give somebody my kid >> 95 or no. [sighs] >> Let's see if he's saying he wants to, but he wants to find a place for the kid first. >> Wait, wait. >> Yeah, we can kind of defect what get them involved. >> He's on his way here. So, >> I'm glad. >> Mhm. >> What's going on? Please tell me what's going on. >> Okay, so we're probably going to have to get defects involved. my kid. Y'all can't just look at her history of how much she has lied to police. [laughter] >> Okay. >> Well, if if there's a way that we found out she's lying, she felt out a statement >> all the way into the driveway. >> Well, if she lied on that statement, she can get charged, too. If we can figure out that that was a lie and she falsified a police statement, she'll catch a charge, too. >> Why is this able to happen? Um, but with defect, I would I'd probably say get it. I don't know. If you want to call Mloud and let her know that she's got a family friend she's willing for the kid to go with, that probably suffice, but you'd probably still need to make a report with defects cuz cuz they're still saved once she gets out of out of LCJ that she could immediately come back and have custody of them again and defects would probably say no way to that. >> I did it. Notably, she appeared to feel more comfortable with the woman who had just arrived than with other family members. >> I'll say she can hold him for now, but we probably still need to notify DeFax and see if they want to come out and have any say in this before transporting her or anything. >> He thought he wanted to hear back from LT. >> All right. What are you looking at here? >> Apparently, why did everybody just say something and it be true? I don't do that to nobody. >> You got to try. You don't want to say We're probably going have to call Defax and see if they're okay with the child going with you, but with something like this, they're probably going to have to get involved regardless. So, we might have to wait on their say so before just before being able to. >> I understand hospital. So, >> I got you. You need to understand how kind of the process goes a little bit. >> Am I going to jail? >> We're seeing about that right now. Okay. >> After careful review, police decided to take the mother into custody. The situation then grew more tense [music] as she resisted police instructions. >> If we call them and they say they're okay with the child being given to you and they just wanted your information probably to contact you, would that be okay with you? >> Yeah. >> Okay, that works. >> Can you help me? >> Miss Bonita, can you help me get him? Huh? >> Can you help me get him? My my leg. Can I at least go change my clothes? >> It's going to be up to her. >> Well, right now it' be the state. >> We have statement saying otherwise. >> What's the birthday? January 13th, 2023. >> Can I at least go? >> Go ahead and stand up for us, please. Ma'am, >> can I please go change myself? >> Please. Please. Please. >> Just go ahead and stand up for us. >> Please. I'm so ashamed to myself. >> You stand up. >> Stand up for us. Damn. Please let me hug my baby. Please let me hug my baby. Please let me. Please >> do not do that again. You aing officer, YOU'RE CATCHING AN EXTRA CHAR. YOU THINK THAT HELPS YOUR CASE WITH YOUR KID? Say goodbye now. >> 95. >> Even after being placed in the vehicle, the mother remained visibly upset, continued to uncooperate, contributing to a tense situation. >> We're 95. Well, she tried to slap me in the face, so [screaming] Just trying to put you away. That's all. Happy. >> But acting like you give A YOU DON'T GET THAT. You already let me go. But I'll give what the >> Maybe we'll cross that bridge in a minute. You got um You mind if we clean UP YOUR KNEE? >> THAT [laughter] CLEAN UP MY KNEE FOR WHAT? >> CUZ YOU GOT A SCRAPE on it. >> Yeah. You don't tickled me. You >> tried to hit us. >> I don't give A SWUNG AT HER. I DON'T GIVE A >> YOU'RE TAKING MY KEY. YOU'RE TAKING MY KEY. I didn't >> You're going TO JAIL. >> I DIDN'T. >> OKAY. WELL, LET'S GET UP. Let me get you into the car. Okay. >> I DIDN'T MY KEY. I DIDN'T My key. >> My car's RIGHT HERE. >> Y'ALL SIT OUTSIDE ON THE PORCH. >> GET IN THE CAR. Y ME LIKE a >> get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> Crack. >> The mother was charged with reckless conduct and obstruction of an officer [music] and booked into Loun County Jail. Under Georgia law, if convicted, she could face up to 5 years in prison. When adults face conflicts or challenges, [music] it is important to ensure children remain safe and cared for. While each may have their own reasons or justifications, above all, the safety and well-being of the child must always be the top priority. One afternoon at a Florida park, a six-year-old girl was briefly without adult supervision, raising concerns about her safety. And the truth about her father emerged through tangled web-like statements. >> And then you Allan drove you in that truck and then dropped you off and then Allan walked home and left you here. >> Okay. So where's Alan? at home. >> On April 13th, 2024, Florida police received a report about a 6-year-old girl without adult supervision. Witnesses said she had been playing on her own for over an hour before police were called. Authorities quickly arrived to investigate the situation and approached the father. >> You can leave it open, bud. >> Huh? >> Is that your daughter? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Come talk to me over here. >> Mhm. >> Come talk to her. >> Okay. >> Sir, come. Oh, sure. >> So, how long were you gone? >> No, I just went to the office and I asked the lady when she was playing with the her daughter. I said I'm going to go to the store. And >> how do you know the other lady? >> What do you mean? >> You said you live here 25 years. I know the older people here coming to the playground. I said I was going to run the water. >> So, she knows she knows you. >> Yeah. >> Which lady? >> The her friend from the school. The yellow teacher. >> Adult female. >> Oh, I don't see her anymore. Yeah, that's a big problem, sir. >> Yeah, it is a big problem. It is, >> especially when you've been gone for over an hour. >> No, no, but I have my phone. >> What? >> These people have been with your daughter for an hour and they didn't know she's been by herself. >> No, I was sitting here on the parking lot. >> Where? In what? >> Here. Which car were you in? >> In pickup. >> Which which p? >> I was sitting here. >> Which car are you in? >> In that in that big white box. >> Okay. So, from in there, you can see your daughter out here. >> Yeah. >> You can see your daughter in the car. >> Yes. I stepping out going back. How come no one's here? >> I mean, >> all right. >> Okay. Can I ask you something? Simple. Who called? >> It doesn't matter who called us, but several people called us. So, we have an issue right now cuz your daughter was left to your office. So, it doesn't matter who called. People called. >> Okay. >> I didn't say 10 people. >> During the investigation, police quickly noticed inconsistencies in the statements from presenting identification to providing a driver's license. Do >> you have your ID, sir? Huh? Do you have your ID? So are you you said you've been living here for 25 years. >> 24 >> 24 years >> actually. Sorry. 2007 around 50. >> So you drive, right? >> I'm sorry. >> So you drive >> or do you mean drive? >> You drive a car? >> If I have to. >> So that's your car right there. >> No, no. My son just left because he just shopping. Give me the >> Do you have a Florida driver's license? >> I'm sorry. >> Do you have a Florida driver's license? >> No. >> This is the only ID you have? >> That's Yeah, that's European. You see? No. >> Which country are you from? >> Poland. >> Do you have a Polish driver's license? >> This is the Polish driver. >> It's not a driver's license. Doesn't have an an address on there. It says like a passport. There's no there's no there's Yeah, it's an ID. It's not a driver's license. And I don't know. You've been here 24 years and that's the only ID you have. >> I mean getting back. >> Have you had anything to drink today? >> I'm sorry. >> Have you been drinking today? >> Yes, of course I do. >> How much have you drunk today? >> Like 2 years or something like that. >> Who's driving that pickup truck out there? >> Uh Alan. My son. I mean, not my son. My uh the guy the kids because I have like five kids under my roof. They dropped. They left by the mom. So he's coming back to drive me because Gabriel was here. >> Okay. So that's your truck out there, right? >> Who was driving it? I don't know if you speak Polish. The father admitted to drinking earlier that day, prompting authorities to check on the child's safety. >> So I said, "You have to drive because I draw I draw [screaming] I drink the two beers and I don't want to drive." They drive. So he said, "Okay, I'm going to come." So that's why I'm waiting for >> So you've been drinking two beers out in that truck. >> What? I'm sorry. >> You've been drinking two beers out in that truck right there? >> No. >> Where were you? Where did you drink the two beers? >> What do you mean? Home. >> At home. And then you Allan drove you in that truck and then dropped you off and then Allan walked home and left you here with the his car. >> Okay. So where's Allan? >> At home. Alan. >> Okay. Okay. >> One second. One second. One second. One second. Because you you're making now. >> Look, my man. >> Honesty is the best policy. Okay. Just be honest with with me. >> Yeah, I'm honest. >> Okay. So, who drove that truck here? >> Alan. >> So, Allan drove the truck here and then walked home. >> No, not walked. They come on the two cars. >> So, somebody else came and picked up Alan? But I I'll check with >> Alan. Thank you. >> Is that your daughter? >> Yes. Yesterday I'm with the police police officer. I'm going to tell you what to do and you're going to stay right there. >> I'm not giving permission to get into my truck. >> He's not. He's not going to go in truck. Hey, sir. Sir, in a second you're about to be in handcuffs. All right. Cuz I'm not tolerating this. >> Moreover, the story about the truck and the involvement of [music] family members made the situation even more complicated. >> I'm sorry. >> I'm not talking. >> Just give me one second. Whose truck is that? >> Are you driving? >> Mine. I'm sorry. My god. >> I mean, whatever. Can I have I have Why not? >> Cuz we're still investigating crime. >> Crime of what? >> Child. >> Oh, the thing is it's a simple story. When I left, I said, "I'm going to go back, buy you the Fuji water again." So, I left and the lady said, "Oh, she's fine. She's fine." She left and I was sitting in the car talking to to my friend through the phone and walking out, walking in. I don't want to be exposed to the sun. I'm not general contractor. I'm working outside. I have enough this stuff. That's all I'm trying to say. I'm not doing anything. When I see my daughter playing, >> showing a >> What's What's the problem? >> You ain't got nothing on you, right? >> I'm sorry. >> Do you have any weapons on you? >> What do you mean? >> Do you have Put your hands over here. >> Put your hands on this bar right here. >> Mhm. >> No. No. I don't have any. >> Where's the kid now? >> No, that that's what I'm trying.
