I'm not joking around about this. You left two infant children in a car. >> Everything. I sacrificed everything for y'all. >> Can't leave your child unattended. >> No, I just want >> to go play a video game. >> Many adults only begin to feel regret [music] once authorities step in. When explanations come too late and if only no longer makes a difference. >> Please give me an opportunity to do it again. >> This is your son? >> Yeah. When I say something to him, I get to the face thrown on the floor. >> He's on stealth. I shut the the lights off. The stories in this video shared difficult moments where seemingly small decisions ended up changing an entire family's life. This mother's just a moment led to an outcome she never expected. >> So since you have two kids, you can follow us to the PD. We're going to do everything there. It's two misdemeanor charges, so you're actually being arrested. >> On October 29th, 2024, authorities responded to a Costco parking lot after a report that a mother had left two young children in a car on their own. At the scene, responders first checked on the children's well-being while also speaking with the mother. >> Good. What's going on? >> I was just doing a quick return and I >> I know. Uh is there kids in the car? >> Okay. Is the car on? >> It was on. >> What do you mean it was on? >> Cuz I got the automatic start and I just shut off honestly. >> Okay. Do you have your ID on you? Sure. when you're ready any problem. >> Okay. Are the kids okay? >> Yeah, they're fine. Honestly, I just had to say goodbye to my grandpa. He's going I just wanted to run in really quick. I'm not trying to make excuses. They're fine. This was not an easy morning for me. Okay. Can you talk to them? I'll talk to you. >> Hi, how are you? >> Hi. Good. >> On. If not, can you hit the remote start on your phone again at least so the kids have some air conditioning? Sure. >> Hi. Hi. I was just telling him I just had to say goodbye to my grandpa. He's going on. I just wanted to run in really quick. I just had a quick return. I wasn't I'm not trying to do anything wrong. >> What? You couldn't bring your kids in? >> I I guess I chose not to. I'm not I'm not making excuses. I'm just like I just wanted to just do this really quick. But you have children. It's a responsibility. You're supposed to bring them in you. That's endangering the life of children. >> They're fine. >> Well, I get that you think that they're fine, but you left them in a car. It's also almost 80° today. >> I mean, you don't know how long the return line was going to be, right? Like it could have been 15 minutes, it could have been 5 minutes, could have been half hour. I mean, you don't know how long the line is, right? I mean, yeah, you have to take care of your children. >> And he already got your information. Okay. Did he get your children's name? >> She has plenty of room to back up. I'll make sure people don't need you. All right, you're good, man. Did you get the children's info too or just >> Okay, hang on for me one second. Um, if you just want to wait in your car, don't leave. I have to find out. We're just giving you a ticket and we're arresting you. If we're going to arrest you, is there somebody there to pick up your children? >> No, I'm not joking around about this. You left two infant children in a car. So, I'm going to find out if we're just going to give you a notice to appear to go to court or if I have to actually physically take you in. We will be notifying DCFS. So, they're going to be stopping by your house, but this is not just a oopsie. So, sit in your car and wait for me. You might want to find if there's somebody to pick up your children. After discussion, officials chose to handle the situation through the proper legal process while considering practical factors. Instead of taking action right there, they allowed the mother to go to the station to complete the necessary paperwork. >> Well, she said she had to return something. She was just going to run in really quick, but I mean, the kids are really young, so I just don't know if it's a When I got here, the car was even on. No, I I I heard you say that it wasn't on, so I just don't know cuz I I haven't I know Tyson wrote this, so I might give him a call really fast. I think it's just >> I think it's just a notice to appear. Yeah. But I just have to I'm going to call Tyson really fast cuz I know he did this cuz a girl left her kids over at the um >> the rise while she ran inside. >> Okay. Do you want me to go inside with him and get the time quicker? >> Yeah, if you don't mind. Hey, do you have a moment? This lady left uh her two children in the car cuz she had to return something really quick. And uh they're born in 20 and 22, so they're super young, both in car seats. The air conditioning wasn't even on the car. The car wasn't running. It was off. is going in to check the cameras and everything. Um, I know that this is like an arrestable thing, but is this just a notice to appear now or? Yeah, me too. But I just wanted to double check. I I called Tyson because I know he wrote wrote this once. Scott, I can't talk. I'm sorry. I don't know if I could just write it as like a ticket basically, you know. Okay. Should I just have her drive to the PD since she's got these kids? Okay. And then I just do up the criminal charges there. Okay. Yeah. Just that way she won't have to get somebody to watch the kids and stuff. Okay. She It's going to be charged for each kid, so it'll be two misdemeanors. Correct. I'm charging each just just cuz. Okay. All right. Thank you. Bye. So, since you have two kids, you could follow us to the PD. We're going to do everything there. It's two misdemeanor charges, so you're actually being arrested. I mean, if you want, you could have somebody pick your kids up. You could leave your car here. I can cuff you and arrest you. Or you could just follow us to the PD. I'm kind of giving you a better option. It's in the life of a child. You get two counts because there's two kids in the car. So, I'll give you a court date information. Um, like I said, DCFS will be contacting you and then make sure you show up to court. But do you know where the Lakeland Hills Police Department is? >> I don't, but I'll >> Okay. Yeah, you can either just follow us like like he could go first. >> I'll go behind. You can go. >> Well, I I need you to go get the video, too, or they already pull it. You want the whole video? I took the start and end. >> Yeah, >> I took pictures of start and end. >> Perfect. >> Unless you want all 13 minutes. >> That'll be fine for now. So yeah, I'll just have him go first and then I'll just follow you guys. So just follow us through and then it's it's literally like 2 minutes from here. But this way we don't have to uh we'll have you just wait in the conference room. You can bring the kids in there with you and I'll write up the um forms and then we'll let you go. Okay. >> At the station, the staff members tone shifted. Not only focused on procedure, but also showing understanding and empathy. Is your husband going to be decent about this or are he like is it going to be a fight when you get home? I'm wondering how much I didn't want to tell him. >> Gotcha. Do you think I mean like will he be supportive? >> It's not like I was doing anything that crazy. It was just a return to prison more than >> You're not going to I will bet you my paycheck right now. Just so we're clear. Just just so we're clear, if this even like it in all seriousness, I'm trying to think of like the most ridiculous thing that I could put on the line right now. [snorts] I would be shocked. That's very unlikely. Okay, you're not if they in all seriousness like I can't go into detail, but I have seen some like horrific child cases. Okay, and this is not you know what I mean? Like I'm I'm telling you, I've seen some bad things that have not ended up in this. Just so we're clear. Okay. So again, mistake that you're not going to do again. Compared to some of the other stuff that I've seen, I would bet you anything. >> Could do anything so funny. >> Yeah. Just stupid. Stupid. Stupid. So, this is going to be easier to think about later. Okay? I know right now this is like very like in your face. You're dealing with it. You're in the middle of dealing with it. If this is the worst thing that ever happens, okay, this is does not mean anything about you as a mom. Okay? It doesn't mean anything about you as a person. >> Thank you. >> All this is this was a mistake. Okay? That's that's it. You did something un It It sounds like this was not even like an intentional, you know what I mean? There was no intent to cause any harm. No. >> Okay. >> Never. >> It's a mistake. It's a mistake. Everybody makes them. >> Never hurt my kids. >> Everybody makes mistakes. >> Every single person. So, this is a mistake. It doesn't say anything about you as a person. Okay. >> The mother was charged with two counts of endangering the life of a child. Under Illinois law, she could face up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Love for children is shown not only through gentle words or warm hugs, but also through care in every action and even the smallest daily decisions. Sometimes the most serious risk to a child isn't something dramatic. It's when adults assume it'll probably be fine. >> Understand why you detained? >> Okay. Where's the children? On July 5th, 2022 in Vero Beach, Florida, authorities received a report from hotel staff about hearing children crying in a room with no adult responding. When responders checked, they found the parents at a nearby entertainment area. >> Hello. How are you? I'm the manager. My name is Darren. It's nice to meet you. Is everything >> you right here? met him. Me? >> Yep. Are you with him? >> Yes. >> You kids at the hotel across the street? >> Yes. >> Around water down. >> Water down. >> Get your water down. >> Yeah. Number male, all female temp. >> This car over here. >> Yeah. Yeah, I know. And then we get um here called um >> I'm going to put her in the back of mine. >> Sir, can I just check on my baby? >> They're fine. I have an ambulance and another deputy's over there. Let's go walk to my car. >> This is really necessary. >> Yes, it is 100%. Can't leave your child unattended. >> No. I was just walking >> to go play video games. >> No, no, no. But as you as you was walking in, I was going back to my baby. >> Housekeeping found them. >> 127 123. Can you get around out here? Email, sir. Do >> you have anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, stab me, bombs, close this? Yes, sir. >> Okay. Have a seat in my car. >> I'll take your phone. Where's your phone? In your pocket. Here. >> Right pocket. >> In your right pocket. >> Have a seat in the car for me. >> All the way in. The father did not appear [music] to fully grasp the situation when officials arrived and his wife was asked to speak separately. He seemed unaware of the level of risk to the children yet tried to take responsibility to reduce pressure on his wife. >> Sir, stand up for me. >> Okay. Put turn silly. Put your hand behind your back. Put them together like you're clapping. Put them together like you're clapping. Like this. Like that. Like this. Yep. Right there. Please do not resist. Okay. All right. There's a whole crew outside. >> I'll get you another set. Okay. You understand why you need the team? >> Okay. Where's the children? >> Huh? Where are the children? >> Yeah. >> His car. Is this y'all's car right here? >> Yes. >> Okay. This is theirs. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um let's keep them together or keep them right there. Let's get um when Pierce gets here, we need call um ECF and all that. >> Okay. Can you please call my brothers, please? Maybe we could try that. But we got we got pies, man. You understand why you're being detained? >> No, sir. >> Okay. I'm going to read your rights in order to speak with you. Okay. >> What's your name, sir? >> Uh my name is Aaron Do, sir. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. You understand that? >> Children at uh hotel room, sir. >> Who's watching them? You just left them there. Huh? You left the children there? >> I there, man. I mean, we're we're with them. So, I'm just looking for some explanation. Just just put all the blame on me or whatever you got to do, sir. >> Well, there's two of you and Yes, sir. >> You guys decided to come down here and gamble and the children are in the room. >> I mean, I'm I'm just asking. I don't care who the blame is on. I'm asking, is that the is that the case? >> Let's put all the blame on me. I don't want nothing to happen to her. My kids, we can work on all that. I have to get I have to understand though what is going on. I can't just say blame everything on me and let's go home. Like, I need to understand what's going on. So So who is in charge of watching the children? >> Put Just put blame on me, sir. Anybody assigned to watch the children? Did you have a babysitter? Just quit playing on me, sir. >> That's You're not That's not a valid answer to the question. Okay, take her out of here. I'm talking me and you. Who was left? >> She has no record, sir. Like, I don't want >> Nobody says she has to go to jail. I'm trying to We have an investigation. You're both detained and I've read your rights. That's all we're at right now. So, I need to understand who was in charge of watching the children. >> Sir, just put the blame on me, sir. >> Okay. So, you were, but you told her that let's go gambling. >> I didn't say nothing to nobody, sir. I I >> So, how did you leave the room with the kid still in the room? You made a conscious decision to do that. You I'm not talking about her. I'm talking about you. >> I'm not Look, I just want the blame on me cuz I don't want her to get in trouble. She don't I don't She don't deserve to be in jail. >> I understand. All right. >> That still doesn't answer my question. >> She doesn't deserve to be in jail. >> You made the decision to leave the children in the room. >> I didn't feel like it. >> You both left the room together. You came down here to gamble. That's pretty obvious. Was there anybody that was supposed to be in the room to babysit the children? Look, I'm going to get a lawyer, >> okay? >> They can check the cameras, >> okay? >> And see what what all transpired, who came in by itself and everything, you know. I know what I did, you know. And >> what's your name, guy? >> My name is Harry D. >> A R last name Y. Everyone involved was given clear information to support fairness and transparency in how the situation was handled. >> Who's in charge? Who was here? >> Let me let me call you back. >> Step inside. The day arrived together. Do you remember? >> No. >> He did. He came first >> by himself. >> Yes. >> And she drove in the car. Did he walk? Do you remember? You have cameras? >> Yeah, we got cameras. I got your card. My boss is going to send you all that. Okay. >> I don't know how they got here because I don't see outside. >> Is there any cameras outside? There's only one. I don't know what that shows, but he um >> it should show. >> Yeah, I'm thinking right now. >> So, I mirandized him. He gave me like the himha hum around that. I I'll take all the blame. I'll take all the blame. I'll take all the blame. Owner is working on the cameras according to staff. He walked in first, started playing. He referred her on paper. She came in about 15 minutes later. I I'm working on the the video. The car is parked right under the camera. So, we should see if they get here together. I was like, who he was supposed to watch a kid? I'll take all the blame. You want to tell me? I'm going to Mirandize her right now and try to talk to her. But what's his name? Dame. >> Yeah, he's got his ID. Let me do that. Yep. We'll get all that. What about DCF? >> I got to get a hold of the kids name. So, I got I wanted to just get this. >> I think they're going to have to come though is what I'm saying. >> Yeah, they're going to have to look at the kids now. Here's >> 1280. The housekeeper. >> Okay. So, but I'm saying I would get the the DCF horn going cuz it's going to be a responsive to come out and take >> her name. >> The mother explained that the children were asleep. However, with young children, asleep does not always mean everything is safe. >> Sam, what's your name, ma'am? >> Okay, I have to read your rights cuz you're in custody. Okay, you have the right to remain silent. You understand? >> He has everything. I stand to Florida to be Sunday school for 2-year-old. >> I understand. Let me >> let me just let me just speak to you. You have the right to remain silent. You understand? Okay. Anything you say can be against you in a court of law. Do you understand? That's a yes. You're shaking your head yet. My camera's on. Okay. You have the right to talk to the lawyer and have your lawyer present with you while being questioned. Do you understand? If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before question. Decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present. You still have the right to stop answering anytime and speak with a lawyer. Do you understand? You may use any of these rights at any time during the interview. Do you understand these rights? Okay. So, what do you mean? You came to Florida to be with Illinois. >> Okay. >> I got a job at Walmart. I did not have my Illinois ID. >> Okay. I have a Illinois driver's license and the room on my birthday the physical one is not expired. My birthday was May 23rd and since my driver's record is so good they allow me to do it in Illinois online. They gave me my driver's license. I did not bring that physical one with me. That's why for Walmart I got hired last Thursday. >> Okay. So tell me what happened today. >> Wait a minute. So I didn't so I don't have my correct driver. >> We'll worry about that. Tell me what happened this morning. >> He woke up at the hotel. We all went to sleep. We woke up. He left out. He came here stupidly. I came too. >> So he came first. He drove or walked. >> He drove. >> Okay. So then you the kids were still sleeping. So he decided to walk over here. >> So I came home stupidly. You were coming in. I >> How long do you think you were here? No more than when you left they were sleeping how old were the children >> before? >> No sir. >> What what today did was there any call that he told you to come over here or did you come on your own? He didn't say he come over >> he's not a bad he's not a bad person. He came he got a job at HBS he has on the shirt. I came I got a job at Walmart. Two great people. We're business completely. Do >> you understand this complexity though? >> Somebody goes in the room the housekeeper walks in. There's two kids in there. >> Okay. All right. Let me go talk to these other officers. Okay. Relax. >> Notably, neither parent believed they had done anything wrong. Not every careless decision comes from bad intent, [music] but the consequences can still be serious. >> River, can you add the 28 name to the events for 1206? And I'll get the uh male's name here in a minute. everything and everything. You know, I know what I did, you know. And >> what's your name, guy? >> My name is Aaron Doy. >> Spell it. >> A hardwood and last name. G O B Y in my car. Got Megan coming for for search. >> Yeah, you'll have take her or I'll have a minute. Four kids growing up. >> Aaron, are you from here? >> Okay. Do you have a driver's license out of another state? >> Driver out of another state. >> Yeah. >> J A R O N. >> Yes. Your middle initial is I. Last name is D O B Y. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Um, >> please, sir. >> I got I got Andy doing it. I get all the videos for the arcade thing. Show me when they got here, how they got here. He came in first. Gandled for like 15 minutes before her. She came on you. Huh? You have a season car. We get all your stuff. >> We'll get all your stuff. >> He said he didn't have one. >> Back here. Both adults were charged with two counts of felony child neglect. Under Florida law, they could face up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Life can leave adults tired and distracted. But for young children, safety cannot rely on hope or luck. Sometimes simply being nearby, attentive, and patient is the most practical and meaningful form of care. >> He respect every other adult it is, but when it come to me, I'm terrified. >> The he the mother mentioned was not a stranger, but her own son. Does she deserve sympathy or a reminder of her responsibilities? On January 9th, 2024, authorities received a report of a serious family dispute involving a mother and her children. At first, it seemed like a common household conflict. [music] But once the door opened, the situation revealed a mother worn down physically and emotionally, a teenage son struggling to regulate his emotions, and two young children caught in a tense home environment. >> What's y'all angry about? >> He's been like that for a long time. He's been like this for a long time. You been diagnosed with anything? >> No, he hasn't. And I just told him yesterday I was going to try to get him some help. But mentally, he's been draining me. You know what I'm saying? I have two other kids in the house that I'm trying to raise. And I can't even raise them properly the way I want to raise them because he think he my daddy. He think he my daddy. He think he my husband, my granddad, and my uncle. He want to be the man of the house, but he don't want to work. He don't want to get up out the bed. He just want to be on TikTok, play video games all day. And I'm scared to say something to him. >> This is your son? >> Yeah. When I say something to him, I get in the face thrown on the floor. If I discipline my other children, I get in the face, thrown on the floor, called the devil. He wish I >> How old is he? >> 20. He got it made. He don't pay no bills. >> All he do is lay around all day. >> Okay. All right. >> He mentally. >> So, what did he What did he do today? >> So, my daughter came home. I I did her laundry last night. So, I told her to get her laundry last night. She gets out of school. She in her room on the phone on TikTok. >> Okay. >> As a get your stuff. >> Yeah. >> What are you What are you yelling for? rolling her neck and doing all kind of unnecessary >> cuz you told her last night and she didn't do it. >> So I get in my daughter face, she rolling her neck. I'm her mom. If y'all want to take me to jail, y'all can't. I stop the because I'm You not going to talk to me any kind of way. Your brother got y'all thinking y'all can talk to me any kind of way. You're not going to be the one to do me like this. >> Okay. >> 13. So as soon as I get in her face, he come out the room, slam me. I've been in a car accident. Three car accidents. >> Uhhuh. >> My neck already. >> You know what I'm saying? He come out the room, slam me on the ground. What the you for? That's my child. I have a right to split my child when she doing something wrong. It's not your child. Who do you think you are? >> But it's coming from anger. He need mental health. >> Did uh So, so he grabbed you through on the floor and what happened after that? >> I fought back. I fought back cuz I was in the relationship. So, when a man hit me, my automatic reflex is to fight back. >> So, you guys too much. >> Were you guys scrapping on the floor? >> Yeah, in the house. I don't want to press charges on him, anything cuz we family. You know what I'm saying? But he need he angry at me. He need to talk to somebody. I don't know. I've been trying. I let you I don't you don't have to work. I thought you nothing. I'm trying to show you I'm sorry. What else you want me to do? You mentally draining me. I'm not going in this year like this. >> I'm financially unstable. You think he trying to help me? Go to at least go to Burger King. Bring me $200. >> Mhm. >> I have to go to every organization it is. I'm about to lose my house, my car, everything. And he's not even trying to help. He saying, "Oh, you've been me since I was a kid. Boy, you got two ass whoopers your whole life. >> My grandma wouldn't let me be this. >> Maybe it's time to send him out. >> I have to. >> He's right here. >> I love him to death. God knows I do. But I can't keep going through this. >> I got to raise my other two children. >> Where are the other two at? >> One in the house. I got to get my other son from school. >> And he's scared of them. >> How old's the other one? >> He's seven. He love him. >> Seven and >> 13. Seven and 13 and he's 20. Any more kids? >> No, >> there's three. >> You know how many times I don't call the police over here? >> I don't know. >> I'm telling you a lot. >> So So does anybody go to jail? >> No, I had to make myself Thursday last week. >> Oh, you took yourself down there? >> I told him to take me cuz literally I can't do it no more. He I let him stay with his daddy. His daddy don't want to have nothing to be with us. He don't want to get up and work. I let him stay with my granddaddy. My granddaddy don't want to have nothing. My granddaddy 83 years old. He locks the doors at my granddaddy house. Make my granddaddy walk all the way around the house because he don't want to get up out the bed. He don't want nobody come in and out of the room. He think he's entitled and people owe him something. Nobody owes him nothing. >> Right. >> I did my part. My grandmother did her part. My grandfather did. Everybody did their part with him raising him. So he tried to use the excuse that I'm a bruiser mom. I'm the devil. I'm the worst person in the world. He uses this victimized excuse. >> Why is he still here then? accident. >> Is that bad? >> And he a good kid. Do not get me wrong. He's an awesome kid. He has so much potential. But he just got a lot of anger and he mad at me and he's making that as an excuse not to do what he needs to do. So maybe if he go get some mental help, sit down and talk to somebody then maybe I don't know. I hate to do him like that. But >> has he ever been Baker active before? >> No. Cuz he a good kid. He don't go nowhere. He's in his room. >> Mhm. >> He respect every other adult it is. But when it come to me, I'm terrified. >> How long have you guys been living here? >> A year. >> A year. Have we been here a lot over the past year? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Like four times already. >> Where did you Where'd you live before that? >> No. >> Were there a lot too? No. >> One time y'all came and I had to get a number for team Teen Trouble in Ocala somewhere. It's called Teen Trouble or something like that. I got that for I was going to do that for him when he was younger. But it's nothing with nothing wrong. He's a good kid. He just want to be in control of me, >> man. >> Man, I want that. >> According to the mother, her 13-year-old daughter had also been frequently [music] defiant and uncooperative at home. >> Ma'am, just for documentation purposes, are you willing to let me take some photos? >> Of who? Me? I know. >> Of you. Of you? >> No. >> No, >> I'm okay. >> Okay. >> Do you have any? >> I got right here, but that's fine. And like I said, my neck was already prior to the body and I was already on my way to emergency room. I'm just waiting to get my 7-year-old from school so I can go to emergency room. >> What time does he need to be picked up? >> You pick him up, >> but my aunt can pick him up. I think my phone in the house. I don't know where it's at. >> Okay. So, I'm I'm not sure what you told uh SG. Would you just kind of go over what what happened today for me? >> Me and my 13-year-old, she's so grown. She talked back to me. She talked to me like a like a scum. Roll her eyes. Pass anybody in my family. She's so disrespectful. So I did laundry last night. I left her clothes on the couch and clothes. Put them up. So all day I'm at I'm at home. I'm not touching them because you 13 years old. I shouldn't have to keep repeating myself over and over again. I'm in I'm last night screaming all night in pain. Think they got to try to help do anything? No. Kids ain't. So she comes home from school and I'm like wondering where she at. The clothes still on the couch cuz I was at the doctor's office. >> Oh, she got home before you got home? >> Yeah. I was at the doctor's office trying to get seen by the doctor so I don't have to go to the nursery room and get high ass medical bills. I come home, she and her laying on the phone. Good. >> What is going on? You tell me. >> You tell me. You're in the car with her. >> I I kind of have an idea of what's going on. >> Um location, >> huh? You want to go? >> Do I want you to go? >> My concern right now. >> Number one is that baby. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> That's what I'm saying. You want to go to the nail salon? >> What's that? The nail salon. >> That's where we're supposed to be going. >> Can you stop? >> All right. No, I got you. No, stop it. >> She's 22. >> That's okay. Tell her she been drinking. >> Where do you live? >> I live in pub. >> In the shelter with her. >> Are you in a shelter? >> No, I'm not in the shelter. >> Is she in a shelter? >> No. >> Where does she live? >> I guess I'm not here. She's in the shelter. >> Like this is like general information that I need. So I Okay. Where is the shelter? >> Holton Street. >> Holton Street. You know the number? >> 29. >> Okay. Thank you. Like like you know what I'm saying? This isn't >> Yeah. She's a great mom, but >> she's not displaying that right now. And that's not going to change anything. >> That's not funny to y'all. I'm >> just Can you shut up? >> If they want to be technical, >> that's my cousin. She's 20. She's 22. She's young. >> All right. Kids are >> Oh, you look like 19, right? >> I take a compliment for that. >> Can you stop talking, please? [snorts] >> Do you know Do you know the baby's name? Your idea real quick. >> Why? >> Huh? Because you're in a vehicle that's involved in a crime. That's why. >> Okay. So, would I be in inside? >> No. cuz I'm >> there's there's a lot of unnecessary questions here that like we could speed we could have sped this up like way long ago. You know what I'm saying? >> Okay. >> Last time we was in the domestic my >> listen not again >> like I said my number one concern right now is that baby. >> Okay. >> The other two adults were also not in a safe condition to drive. That trip may have been a risky experience for [music] a child too young to understand. >> I told you go to the car. You want to go to the bar? >> We actually at this point just right now >> Hey, do you have an ID on you? I just >> What's that? >> No. Do you have an ID on you? >> Nope. >> You don't have an ID? I said I'm getting out of the car. >> Okay. What is your name? >> Jessica. >> Jessica. What? How do you spell that? >> She I see that. >> I'm not driving. >> Stay where you are. Okay. You don't need to lean. >> You know that I'm not trying to approach. >> I know. No, I know. But you're leaning into me and you don't need to be that close. >> She knows that I'm not trying to look at her. Look at me. But as her help the cop knows I'm not trying. >> I don't know anything what anyone's doing. How about that? >> But how about that? >> All right. Call for your ride. Okay. Cuz if we don't want the baby to get >> Jessica, what's your phone drink? So be quiet. >> Jessica, what's your phone number? >> I don't have good. >> Well, she's not really a baby. >> No, she's a baby. >> That's not a baby. >> It's not a baby. Literally don't. >> Compared to us, she's a baby. >> You have someone Do you have someone coming to pick you guys up? >> No. >> Yeah, I'm getting a lift right now. You just told me. >> Okay. >> The mother may face charges of OUI, child injurement, while operating under the influence, [music] and leaving the scene of an accident. Under Massachusetts law, she could face a maximum sentence of up to 7 years in prison. In moments of physical fatigue or emotional strain, choosing a safe way to travel can be a quiet gift to those waiting for you to return home. Under the scorching Florida sun, a couple got into a heated argument after accidentally their child in a car. >> Never again. >> That's what you mean, right? On purpose. >> On a sweltering day, police received an emergency call about a one-year-old girl alone in a vehicle. The car was off, windows closed, and the child had been inside for about 8 to 10 minutes before officers arrived. The keys were still inside, an element that sparked blame between the child's parents. Did y'all call? Yo, sheriff's office. Did y'all call? >> Is the car recording? >> Shut up. >> Whose car is it? >> All right. But she is It's not on. >> No. >> All right. 145. Your vehicle is not running. They locked the keys in the car. How far is empty? I'm have to smash the window here in a second if FD is not close. Right. >> I knew I >> How long has she been in there? >> For about 10 minutes. >> All right. I'm going to smash the window then. >> I have to cuz she's been stuck in there. I don't know how far he's out. She's been in there for 10 minutes. >> You don't have a You don't have >> No, I don't have that. >> I didn't do that on purpose. That key doesn't work. >> You do have a key at all outside the >> No. Outside the car. Do you have a key? >> She has the key because he put the key in her with her. Can you get that? >> I need her to touch this button. If she touch that button, she can >> Can you get a handle? Grab it. >> She already did that. >> She She told me before, >> huh? >> Don't before. >> You're okay with us breaking out the window to get her? >> Window. This is what you give. That's how I'm never giving you my daughter. Never again. Never again. >> That's what you mean, bro. I was doing this on purpose. I put her in a car seat. I was coming on this side to open it and it was locked. >> You was supposed to have that key on you. Never put that [ __ ] Yeah, I do. >> Bro, >> whose parents are you guys both parents? >> Don't do that. >> Give me my ID. >> Yo, >> during the verification process, the baby was immediately checked for help. Luckily, thanks to tinted windows and the short time inside, the child was safe. >> All right. What happened, ma'am? >> Walmart, he told me, "Grab the baby and take her to the car. She's crying too much." So I came, I opened the door, I put her in the car seat, I mean on the in the car and then once I placed her, the key was there and I thought I had had in my pocket and I just closed the door and I went around and I started lock it and I realized that the key was in the car. >> How long is she in there? >> Like 8 minutes. >> I'm never giving you my D. No more. No more. It's always dumb. He always does dumb all the time. >> Is he dead to the child? >> He's dead. He always does dumb. I should have never gave him the key. I told him to wait in the car and he took her. When I came back, he's like, "You, you, you, you." And I'm like, "What's still going on?" >> I was trying to open the door, and that's when I noticed that the key was inside already. >> Okay. And who are you to Are you the father? >> Yeah. And that controller doesn't It seems like it doesn't work. >> All right. Just chill here. Just get her some space. >> Are you all okay? >> I'm fine. My daughter is fine. >> Well, we were here looking for the other back to normal. And how long was she in there for? >> About 10 minutes. >> 10 minutes. Very sweaty. >> Just fine. >> Okay. Anything changes or anything? >> I can take her to the ER. That's fine. As long as she wasn't in there for 25 minutes. >> I mean, Florida heat 10 minutes is a long time. >> But luckily, you have some tent. So, we probably didn't get as high as it could have. Uh, do you have like cool water or like >> I'm going to turn the AC on. I'm going to give her juice. She's hot water. >> Well, give us a call back if you need us. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. You're >> welcome. We need to take that glass. >> Come on. You have your ID on it. >> Oh, you gave hers also. >> Did you give the child's name, too? >> Hold your daughter. Hold your name. >> No, I'm good on that. >> However, the situation didn't end there. When the father was temporarily detained for investigation, police checked the vehicle and found additional violations. We called them to >> I recently checked too like to see what was the the status on her case too. >> You have two You have two phones? >> Yeah. >> Thought you didn't have a phone number. >> Just disconnected. >> I'm going to take your money out of your pocket. >> Dollar for the vehicle. >> That's all I'm good. You just what do you buy this car? >> Okay. But you don't have registration. >> The vehicle's not reg. >> I I know I'm coming from South Carolina. So, >> but now you're you can go to jail. >> I I know >> that's that's a trailer. Where did you even get this tax from? >> His dad gave it to him. >> You saw the how the bar the decal is cut out. Even that alone is arrestable cuz you're modifying a tag and a sticker. Can you grab your license for me? >> He has my license. >> Charlie 213. >> Yeah. The guardian though. >> All right. Okay. What? Do you need my >> We already have your stuff. We have your >> Can you tell me the title? >> Yeah, we need that. >> Okay. >> VIN out of Florida. >> Yeah. Try um what? South Carolina. >> South Carolina. >> You bought the car from South Carolina. All right. >> I just drove this car from Miami to South Carolina. >> I bought this car from Miami. I did not register the car until I got to South Carolina. I was supposed to change that tag and I didn't. >> Just find the title real quick for me. The tag on that vehicle, where did it come from? >> Came from uh uh you bought it from a guy in Miami. All the tags from a guy in Miami. No, the car. >> But what about the tag? The tag. >> Oh, the tag. That's my father's tag. We're just trying to like get through that. So, since we were looking for work, we was trying to like fight for like ourselves, you know? Like, >> but you knew that tag didn't belong in that vehicle. So, what you put on there? That's the whole issue now. >> Yeah, I know. But that's the problem is that like I said like we was getting like close to being homeless. So like we had to move fast to like like with my uncle >> and we had we were trying to get work but >> it seemed like we can't find work so that we have money to get our insurance you know like things like that. So that and I just took that tag from my the back of my dad's house so that I could get to where I need to go. But I know that's that's an issue but that's just like an error for me like just grabbing the the tag from my dad just to like move around quick try to support my daughter. Listen, I understand you're struggling, right? But doing stuff like that's criminal as well. A fixing tag as well in that vehicle is going to cause issues that actually if someone runs that like we just did comes back to a trailer and that's on that vehicle. Now I have to take that tag off that vehicle and that vehicle can't move from that spot. If you guys drive that vehicle with no tag on it, someone's going to get arrested for it cuz that vehicle's not stop the roadways and get towed. >> That's what we're trying. >> Then you guys are stuck up here in Palm Coast. You guys live in Miami, right? >> Just trying to get you home. >> I understand. You're going back to Miami. Where you coming from? >> North Carolina. I'm just >> I I understand what I'm saying. All right, just give it a second. I'm trying to find those peaceful resolutions to the situation, okay? I don't like to jam people up, okay? But I have to do my job when I have to. Just give me a second. All right. >> Unassigned license plates, invalid registration, and a suspended driver's license. These discoveries turned a careless incident into a serious legal matter. >> So, you broke like three laws in the course of 30 minutes. >> And fixing an improper tact to a vehicle is criminal. Driving a vehicle is not registered to you is or not registered at all is criminal. I have to verify that to make sure that he knows that he's going to tell us that he sold you the vehicle. If he tells us his vehicle is missing right now and it's stolen driving a stolen vehicle, you're going to jail for it. Okay? And then we'll call DC. You have to pick up your kick. >> Okay? You can come. I'm not worried about it. >> Okay? >> You can call. >> Um >> you can call because I wasn't driving. He was driving. He has license for over 6 years. Mine is suspended because I had a Jeep and I didn't pay the insurance. Dad, you can call. I'm not worrying about that. >> Well, you already drove this car. >> You drove it from that parking spot to here. >> We didn't know your license suspended, but we watched you drive it. >> Yeah. I drove it because I just got >> So driving me a car that my license is a crime as well. And you told us that it was suspended with me. You're aware of it. I'm just being serious. I'm stating the facts, okay? I'm making everyone aware of everything. What goes on past this point? I'm looking for the most peaceful resolution to this situation, okay? I don't feel a kid with DCF alone in of itself. But you need to get your situation fixed. You can't be driving a car with improper tags on it. You can't be a fixing improper tags on it. If I can just take him, if his thing is actually a crime right now and he's going to jail, I plan on leaving the kid with you and most likely I'll probably give you a citation or maybe a warning for whatever is in your vehicle. But this tag doesn't belong this vehicle. So, I do have to take it one and two, this vehicle is not going to have a tag on it and you're suspended so you can't drive it. Do you have something to come pick you guys up from here? If if this all goes away, you think it's going to go? Do you have someone to pick you up from here or no? >> Cuz you guys are from Miami, right? >> Yes. >> Do you have any friends up here? >> I'll call this mom and her. >> Where she at? >> She's in Miami. So for remind me it's 4 hours. >> I know it's 4 hours. >> So it's more close to that. You can call. I'm not worrying about that. I didn't sign it. That's my fault. But you can call the person. It's a Spanish person that sold me the vehicle. But his mom, this is his mom's car. So you can call for that. I'm not worrying about that. I didn't sign it because I didn't sign it. That's it. >> You're supposed to. Just so you know. Okay. When you buy vehicles like this from titles on scene with the vehicle with the guy there, still you both sign it. So then this issue doesn't arise in the future because right now we're stuck with something, right? A paper in the fitting front. You can't sign it. now in front of me because that's going to draw when I picked it up. So, if he says he sold you the vehicle, then you can sign it. But that's the whole issue, right? So, give me one second. You can close this box up. You can get back in your driver's seat with your AC and your kids. Relax. I'll be back in a second. Okay. >> Even with grounds for taking further legal action, police took a softer approach, issued a citation, took the plates, but still gave the family a chance to fix the situation. >> You take him or no? >> I'll go over there and take whatever that is. >> All right. Well, I'm sure definely Lisa is going to write some tickets for you guys. You guys are going to have >> Listen, I told you I'm I told you my best. All I do, right, is find the best solution in the situations. Okay. Yet again, end of the day, got to do my job. So, you're not going to jail. >> Okay. But that tag has to come off that vehicle because you guys can't have it on there. Okay? So, I am taking it. That vehicle does not help no longer has a tag on it. It makes it very noticeable to us as law enforcement. If you choose to drive that vehicle past this point with a shattered window with no tag on it, I guarantee you it's going to be a very bad day for everybody in that vehicle with you. Okay? So, your job right now, and I'm going to tell her the same thing, is to find somebody that can come that can come pick you up cuz we live in Miami. >> Oh, I want to tell you, all right, find an Uber. The hotels over here and stay there until you can get someone to come pick you up. But that vehicle now no longer has a tag on it and it's a shattered back window. So, if a cop sees that, ain't going to be a good day for you guys. You stole that vehicle. >> What about like you could make it like an emergency? I can't do that. Nope. You guys broke the law. I I can't cut breaks like that. I can't cut breaks that go past jurisdiction. So, you guys did break the law. Please. All right. >> We're in a We're in a time where I'm I'm almost going homeless and I'm not >> Here's the thing. Here's what we're saying. We're got to do our job. If you decide to drive this thing, that's your own collision. All I know is if I stop you, and I assume if he stops you, you're most likely going to jail. If you drive that thing on the interstate, like they say with a shatter window, no tag, Florida Highway Patrol is going to stop you. You're most likely going to jail. Do you know how many counties you have to travel between Flagward County and Day County? It's like eight or nine different counties. If you, God willing, you make it through not eight or nine counties, you no jail. But what we're saying is it's most likely not going to happen. So, you need to get this vehicle registered, have someone in D County register it, assuming someone on the title cuz neither of you guys are on the title. Your dad's going to have to register this vehicle. They can bring the tag up here and boom. But Walmart's not going to I'm guarantee Walmart's not going to let the vehicle with no tag sit in the parking lot. So, you got about uh 24 hours to get all that stuff done. So, let's go back to your car. >> All right, man. I just used to >> Yeah. >> The family was warned not to drive until their documents were legal. DCF will also investigate leaving the child alone in the car. >> The insurance does go too, >> huh? >> The insurance goes if you don't pay that. >> That all depends. >> Yes. >> If you don't pay it. Yeah. >> Your insurance goes now. Stay on your vehicle. They'll put things out to get your vehicle towed and stuff and then they'll come and arrest you for it. Just to be clear, you guys already advised about this vehicle. Okay. If it leaves this parking lot and another deputy in this area stops it or I do, whoever's driving will be arrested. Just so you guys understand, my recommendation, try to get an Uber. There's a hotel very close by over there, or there's ones across the bridge over there, also very close. There's like four of them over there. They're not that expensive. They're pretty cheap. Try to get a ride here to pick you up. Most likely Walmart will not be okay with your vehicle staying here overnight. Either talk to somebody about see if you're going to keep it here till tomorrow or try to get something done. Okay? Get register as soon as possible, get the vehicle moved, stuff like that. Okay? Any questions? >> No. >> All right. Just so you understand, there's a huge break you're getting right now. Okay? You can't be going to jail. >> I know from my daughter. Yes, I know. >> That's that's the reason that happened. >> You probably don't know, but I know my daughter. >> And just to be clear, the kid in the car when we got here on scene, that kid was sweating profusely and panting. Okay. If we wanted to, we put shotgun as well, but we're not. DCF will be notified of the situation. If they want to investigate, that'll be on them. I'm not having enough here to pick up your kid or anything. I'm just notifying them what happened so they can do their investigation and make sure everything's safe at home, stuff like that. All right. Any questions? >> All right. I'm going to get out of here. The father also received a criminal summon for using an unassigned registration tag and the child was safe after a brief exposure to heat. Is this outcome truly fair given the case began over a child's safety but ended with traffic related charges? Share your thoughts in the comments below. A woman's call for help drew a child's father into more serious legal trouble. >> Okay, so I'm going to say that it started yesterday. >> Get out of your way. >> He uh he done a deal with the cops and narked. Well, then he lost it and got on I guess last night. He kept her in the house down there all night with the door screwed shut. I called to see if they were going to come get the baby cuz I worked from home and I had to be at work at 8:00. And when they come up here, he started mouththing and then him and his dad. His dad tried to control him. They fought. They were on the couch. He finally got up. He threw everything. He went out the door, grabbed a knife, come back in with a him with a knife, but he did have a gun. He did pull a gun out because he was in our house and we were for our life. I don't know why I ain't showing. >> And then he's he's went out this door, that door. He grabbed the baby, which is his and hers, and he has he broke that table, threw that glass across at him. >> On September 17th, 2024, Graves County deputies received an emergency call about a family dispute. According to the report, the father's behavior had created potential risks within the household. Officers promptly responded to the scene to assess the situation. Hey, hey, >> hey. No. All I'm asking is for his mama to come out here and she won't do it. I'm not giving you this baby. >> No, I don't want I want to talk to you. Listen to me. Hey, >> sir. Sir, if you tell me you're on my side and don't touch that again, I will listen. >> I want to talk to you. Okay. Okay. >> I don't know. >> All I need you to do is open that door and say, "Well, Katie Herd, come out here." >> Hey, listen. Right now. All right. My name's Austin. What's your name, brother? >> My name's Robbie. >> I was just on the phone. Larry Jones. He said he knows you and says you're a great guy. >> I come in the house to get my kid and this man went to scream and holler at me and I told him it was none of his business. And then when he got up, he started swinging on me. So if anybody goes to jail, he goes, I'm not letting go my kids. The only thing he can be saying, >> I am not asking you to do that. All right. I was told listen to him. Can I tell you my side? You talk to me. Okay. Like I said, my name's Austin. I don't know who that is. Oh, that's uh that's >> Can I go talk to that gentleman down there? I would love to talk. >> You know him? >> I'd like to talk to him. >> Just make sure you ain't got no soldier on, baby. All right. >> He's all good. Hey, >> I'm going to talk to you, sir. >> I'm going Hey, he's uh I just patted him down. I'm going to go talk to these people. >> Okay. >> I just want the baby. I just don't want him to hurt the baby. >> He's down there. The the baby. He's down there with the with the I don't know if y'all know Snapper Seat or not, but he's down there talking to him right now. >> He's He's got issues. He's got a BTS. He's therapist. >> I got you. >> He's having a break. He got back on. He got back on that. >> Where did he have you at last night? >> The turn still there. >> I come over willingly because he was talking crazy about killing himself. I got yesterday. >> So you came over to his house >> because he he sent me a video of him which I have it on my phone of him with a noose around his neck. So I come over here to talk to him and check on it and try to talk him out of it and then he screws the door shut and we just stop this morning. The initial cause was believed to stem from a dispute over a child custody agreement. >> You can't get away right now. We got to figure out what's going on. >> Talk to me right down here. Please don't ask me. I want this property. I want down there on my property. >> No. Right now, you're going to stay right here. Okay. >> Okay. It's just making worse. It's making things worse, man. >> No, it's not going >> cuz I already know how this is going. It's how it went last time. >> Just hang on. >> The man come at me first and I'm going to go to jail for myself. >> It's what happened last time. I'm going to jail for life. >> Hey, Bobby. Just hang on, buddy. Okay. So, what? Tell me what's going on here. >> I come up here to get my kid and he grabbed him by my shirt. I'm not I'm not grabbing you no way. He grabbed me by my shirt like this and said, "You're going to apologize to your mother for the way you talked to her." I said, "I ain't got to apologize to nobody cuz you've done it my whole life." >> Okay, Bobby. Hold on. >> And then after that, he went to swinging on me. >> So, >> he swung on me. >> Okay. Okay. I know. I'm not trying to get you worked back up or anything like that. Okay. >> I was trying to go to Hold on. My house is literally right there. You >> listen to me. So, why is it So, what's the situation here? Why is your Why was your baby here? >> Because it's my night. Why is my baby here? Is cuz your mama stayed all night with me. >> So, it's your night to have your baby tonight or today? >> Last night? >> Last night was. >> Yeah. And we come up the hill to get our baby so she can go with his mama. That's what brought all this on. >> Okay. Hey, buddy. >> We're going through um eternity and stuff like that, but it is his kid. He is on. >> What uh what court y'all going to? >> Um we're in Coro >> cuz I'm I'm from Coro. Well, I live in Coral. Sorry. It's been a long day. >> According to the father, other relatives, including his father and the child's mother, got involved in the dispute. Given the presence of a minor, police were forced to prioritize the child's safety above all else. >> I go in there and I start getting accused of harassing you and pulling you over all the time. >> No, that motherucker in Clinton has harassed me every >> time I go through a problem. >> Every time I go through Clinton, that man pulls me over. Whether I'm doing anything wrong or not, >> man, your dad [clears throat] doesn't understand what you did yesterday. Nobody does. And I want my woman to come out of that house is all I want. Can somebody go ask her? >> Right now that's talking to her. Okay. We got another unit in there that's talking to her. Okay. And we'll go from there. I'm trying to figure out what you and her came up here this morning to get your child. >> Yes. We came up here this morning. >> Okay. Right now we're trying to figure out what's going on and everything else. Okay. So, what happened with So, you said is that your dad? >> Yes, my father. He's been like this my whole life towards me. He hates me and always has. >> Your dad says you're going to apologize to your mom. I apologize to my mom and that but that's what started. He grabbed your shirt >> and told me I was going to apologize. Nobody tells me what I'm >> for. What though? Apologize. >> I talked to her on the phone some type of way. I don't know what I said. I talked to her some type of way on the phone. >> Okay. So, that happens. And then what happens after that? >> He puts his hands on me. He comes at me. So, I told him I said, "I'm not apologizing to her for things you've done. You've done the same thing and I don't have to owe her an apology for it. You taught me it was right." And then there it went. >> Gotcha. After that, >> I'm going to sit on sitting stroke. I got a bad knee. >> Yeah, you're good. You're good. After that, what happens? You defend yourself. >> I defend myself. He has me on that couch the [ __ ] out of me why I'm down. Done. Told the man twice I was done. And he kept hitting me. >> Okay. >> Um >> after that, what happened? >> I got up. He went to mouth of me again. So I swung a baby walker towards him. >> Okay. >> I walked out the door and got in his vehicle. Come back in, tried to get my baby mama. They wouldn't tell me where she's at. >> Okay. >> Got in the car and was leaving. >> Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. >> I was going right down there. As you can see, I was cutting through the yard. >> Gotcha. Okay. So, with all that being said and stuff like that, do you need any medical attention? >> I don't know at this point. I'm in too big of a rage right now to figure out. >> I understand. I know a whole side of my head is knotted up the hell up. >> I understand that you're sitting there and you got a bunch of adrenaline still and everything else running through you. >> Hey, baby. >> But yo, >> hey, come here. >> So, did you fight back? >> Yes, I defended myself. I wouldn't let him hurt me. >> I understand. I'm just saying that's >> I defended myself. Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. So after So after you're you're you're all tussling, you threw a baby walker at him, this and that. You're striking him too. Where where is it that you're hitting him? >> Wherever I can. His side, his legs, wherever. Because he's got me wrapped up in the head. Top out of my head. And if you want to know, there's not there. There's a knot there coming up. There's one over here coming up. >> Gotcha. Okay. So So I'm going to get my phone and I'm going to take some pictures real quick. All right. I'll take pictures of your head, your face, and everything. Your hands. However, the father's statement showed contradictions when a family member appeared with visible signs of a physical altercation. >> Yeah, there's a there's an ambulance on the way out here. >> I'm going to have I'm going to go down there. I'll be right back over here, but I'm going to go down there and tell him to come around this way. So, we got a kick through all this stuff >> now. Go to sleep. Go to sleep. Come on. >> So, whenever you finally grab got your son, who did you get him from? Or where was he? >> He got him from his mother. >> So, his mom had him? >> Yes. >> Okay. Where did she get him from? >> Uh, I don't All in the house. >> Okay. Okay. So, where where did all this happen? Like it happened inside though. >> Inside the house. >> Okay. Okay. >> The mother provided more details for the investigation, highlighting the father's need for mental health support and past legal history, which required intervention to ensure the child's secure environment. >> So, what happened >> yesterday? He Okay. Couple days ago, he got pulled over by Hickman County. He had a joint on him. He piss tested him. that he didn't have anything in his piss besides marijuana. Pickman County told him that they'd let him go and they'd be calling him sometime this week. They wanted information on people. Cool deal, whatever. Went about his business. I went over there two nights ago. I found a meth in the house. I know he's back on meth, okay? Which is not good for him. He already fights PTSD. He fights schizophrenia. He's all that. He sees a therapist. He's medicated. He needs to go to the psych is what this is. He's having a breakdown. Yesterday we got in an argument over the phone. He tried to kill himself. I got p I got a video of him trying to hang himself. Okay. >> He went out and I guess bought some more dope. He got pulled over. Whenever he got pulled over, the guy that pulled him over was the cop that was here, the regular clothes. They came and made him go buy from the guy. Well, the guy they made him buy from is a big guy and Robbie knows that and it made him spin out because he's not about snitching and stuff. That on top of me and him fighting. He tried to hang himself and come over here last night to talk to him to calm him down. When I got here, he screwed the door shut and kept me in there. I don't want to press charges. I know what's going on. I've been in the medical field years. Got out this morning, come up here to get the baby for me to take the baby home cuz we cannot have the baby, me and him together because he has outbursts and has a Okay, we're going through CPS. I come to get the baby, bring the baby back to Carl Island. He was supposed to go to work. When we come in, his dad, they could see it on my face. Things have been bad. You know, his dad told him he needed to apologize to his mama for the way he [ __ ] her this morning on the phone, which he should have cuz he was disrespectful. And they just them two together. When they get to arguing, this happens. They are like firing gas, the two of them. Robert grabbed his Robbie grabbed. Just back and forth, back and forth. I went outside with the baby while they were fighting. Whenever he walked out, he come out the front. And I told him, "Just go down the tiny house and chill out. Go smoke a joint, chill the out." Like that's just is what it is. He took whenever he went out, I come in and I locked both the doors behind me. I went and hid in the room with the baby. >> Yeah, cuz we all know how he is. When he found out that I wasn't outside and I wasn't coming down here and kicked the door in, searching for me and the baby. When he found us in the room, he took the baby from me. And then I went and hid in the pantry and he's been at it ever since. >> Every conflict has a cause. Now it's time to hear the mother's side. >> Okay. So, let me just get the story straight and everything else as far as what happened. I understand last night and this that and everything else. So, you came up here by yourself. >> We came together because he was coming up the hill to see the baby before he went to work and I was taking the baby >> and you were getting the baby. So, y'all came up together, >> right? >> And then him and his dad got into it then. Yeah. Whenever he come in, they got into it right here. >> Then you went back outside to calm him down. >> No, I went out the front while they were fighting. I took the baby. >> So the fighting started even before the the physical fighting started whenever when he came the initial they started arguing and I already knew when they get to arguing their tone a certain pitch. I just Yeah. >> So you went outside. Where was the baby at this point? >> He was with me and I went outside to the front and shut the door behind. They fought for 10 15 minutes. Okay. >> When they were fighting, I was out there. When they got done fighting, Robbie, come out there. >> Okay. And then got the baby from >> and come out there. And I told him right there, I said, "Come, you go down to the tiny house and I'll take the baby and I'll meet you down there." >> Well, when he went down the front step, so I come back in, lock the doors, and then I was hiding that room. And then he come back in and he got the baby. >> Okay. Okay. >> We're not married and we haven't finished paternity yet. Team baby. >> Yes. Should Yeah. Yeah. Autom go to you right now. We don't want him. Don't say that to him. No. He's on a trigger right now. >> No. Hey, it's okay. We don't want to escalate him any more than what he did. So, you didn't see any of the physical fighting itself? >> No. >> Yeah. When they were done fighting physical, Robbie come out. I told him to leave. >> Okay. Okay. >> And whenever he was leaving, I come back in >> and then lock the doors. And then that's whenever he came back around and busted the door. Okay. >> All right. And that's when I got the baby. >> It is deeply concerning when a young child is adversely affected by an escalating family dispute. >> So tell me about that. >> She has vouched to me that she was coming over yesterday. Okay. She said she was hurt and couldn't come over >> like physically orally from work and that she was coming to get the child. Well, if you're hurt and can't come over to me, how can you come over and take the child and take care of the child if you're hurt? >> Mhm. >> That time or yesterday? >> Yesterday. This was all yesterday. >> No, it started yesterday morning. all day yesterday. >> That's my mama number two. That's that's that's my number one. >> I get it. >> Yes. That's what I'm asking. If you think you're trying if you think >> because there's been many times I've come home and she had the kid and said, "Take him before I throw him out in the yard." Right here. She said it numerous of times. This lady is my witness that I am ready to sign my rights over to you because I cannot handle it. >> Have you witnessed it? I don't feel comfortable her taking the baby by herself. >> Well, then >> honestly, >> and then you really want to know the truth. We split up and I called CPS. Nobody else. I called CPS. >> Also, she said it was postpartum. >> Yep. Postpartum depression, >> which is common. >> Yes, it is. But when they get into it, that's why she likes the baby. >> Okay. So, the baby get the baby comes into play and uses a pond when you guys get in an argument. >> They won't get an argument. That's why she wants them. Until then, she don't. Okay. >> Due to the severity of the situation, police worked with CPS to evaluate the safest living environment for the child. >> The last time there was a big rip up she accident or >> No, he never got nothing. >> Anyway, the situation went down like this. He said she didn't want it. She did stand her at one point in time. She would turn over her rice cuz she was now she has another child that's older >> and she doesn't raise her daddy does. >> But every time she always they like Thank you. >> Biological brother, >> we try to keep the peace. >> Well, let me ask you, let me ask you a serious question. Have you always told him the truth? >> Yes, sir. >> And you wouldn't lie for him with he or me standing here? >> Okay. I want you to say this in front of him and I'm going to ask you a direct question. You're on the outside looking in in this current situation more safe with him or more safe with her? And I'm talking for the best interest of the child. >> I love you and you know I'm telling the truth, but he's not safe with either one of y'all right now in the state of >> See the thing. I mean, I'm I'm But y'all fight, >> okay? We're not fighting. No, it's not me and her. >> Minus Let's take the fight out of the equation. Who would you say if you were to leave for 6 months and you say, "I'm not going to be able to see that baby cuz I'm certain you care for this child in their absence." Would you say, "I'm trying to ascertain now from I think >> from a legal standpoint when we leave here, who does this child need to be with?" >> I'm going to have to be honest about it. And Robbie, you know, I love you to pieces. There's something wrong here. >> Something wrong here is because I cried out to help for that woman Thursday and she told me to go myself and leave a piece. And she told me to go get on dope. >> I tell you what I'm going to do. I tell you what I >> need to be put in. The baby is stuck in the middle of this last year. You know, we told y'all that. >> I'll take care of this baby. I realize I calm down since the baby's been in my arm. >> You're the most calm I've ever seen you ever in my life. >> When you take him out of my arm, I'm going to jail. >> When that baby goes, I'm being honest. Comes out of my arm, I'm going to jail. >> I ain't going to take the child from your hand. I'm certain I struggle with it, too. And I don't want that baby to get dropped. You know what I'm saying? So, I ain't doing that. >> Just like I had this baby >> lifeline. I get it. I have this baby 90% of the time >> now. That's why they're not supposed to be together with the baby. >> So, let's talk about CPS. I'm sorry to interrupt you, but just before before CPS. >> So, did they open up a case plan? Who'd you talk to and what did they say? >> The question is, what is the best solution to reduce conflict and protect the child's interests? >> What was the uh case? >> The case is that I was made out to be the bad guy and I called. >> What is the case plan? What did CPS say >> for us to stay separated with the children and be supervised if we had the children? So who is in charge of supervision with the children? >> My mother. Whoever another grown adult. Okay. >> It's usually between his parents and me. He always like if they go somewhere we all >> that's just like she's in. >> So basically what they and if I misspe I want you to be honest and tell me say I want you to say Larry that is that is not accurate. What CPS told you was the fact that >> and they haven't officially told us anything they recommended. >> Okay. They recommended that if you not to be alone with a child without a supervision. Okay. So the idea >> they recommended that if me and her were together could not have the kids supervision. >> Okay, I'm going to put it to you the way you were supposed to properly say that. And it is this when either one of them has the child, if they are together, someone has to be there with them. >> A mediator basically. Okay, perfect. >> So they kind like if he lives down in his home down there, he could have had the baby down there by himself. >> Who's pulling up? Who's pulling up? >> Probably. >> If y'all were together, then someone needed to be there. But you're good to have the child by yourself. >> Yes, that's how they got it. He can have the baby by himself. But if they are together, someone has to be they cannot be together alone with the baby. >> I get it. Perfect. Okay, >> that's the best way. >> Got it. And I completely understand it. If she can, they're fine with her having a child. Isolated by herself. He can have the child and I say isolated meaning just alone with the child. I like taking her sleep. >> But if they are together, then someone needs to be there. Exactly. I got it. Good deal. Thank you. I'll be right back. Okay, perfect. Good deal. >> There's more. >> Okay, go ahead. The other thing is they're supposed to do that except when she gets the child, she has him for a little bit and then she calls and says, "I can't do this." And she'll bring it back to him. >> Has he ever done that to you and said, "Hey, I can't do that." >> No, sir. >> No, sir. >> I cannot not do without myself. >> Okay. >> Meanwhile, officers continued taking the mother's statement, but things became more complicated as both sides gave conflicting information. Then Robert was on this end of the table and he said something and he grabbed the pitchfork and he come in with the pitchfork with the baby in his hand with the pitchfork after his daddy. I grabbed the pitchfork and he said, "I you with it too and I just yanked it away from him and got it away from him cuz he only had one hand cuz he had the baby in the other hand and then which I mean your 911 dispatcher got a lot when I was on if they record it." She got a lot on the phone when I was on the phone with her cuz he kept telling me it was my fault now that I called because I called 911 first. I called Mountain Comprehensive cuz he that's who he sees at Paduka. He has a therapist down there and I told him that we needed help because he was having a psychotic break. Somebody needed to come admit him and he said, "If your life is in, dial 911." So today, >> yes, this morning. So I did. I dialed 911 and we were on the phone the whole time. And I was sitting at my desk the whole time. He never come at me until he thought I was sitting there working while all this was going on. And then he smacked my computer, the screen, that one off of the desk and told me that was all I cared about was work, that I didn't care about him. And I got up and I got it. It didn't break it. Thank God cuz it's not mine. It's my work. He smacked the other one off and then that's y'all got here. >> Okay. >> Yeah. The only time that he had the child was when he busted that door in when he come in with the pitchfork and then he got out and got in her vehicle, which is the one sitting here on the heel of the >> It's on the stump now. He got in it and looked at me and told me that my grandson would be on me. >> Was the child with him when he got? >> Yes. He took off, stopped. He got out. He come back in. He mouth some more. He went back, got in the SUV again, and then went down and that's when he hit the stop. >> Have you ever told him, "I'm going to sign the right to the child over you." >> Well, after first had the baby. >> I just I want explanation. Did you have some postpartum stuff going on? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Of course. And I was She was here. I come. >> Have you ever made the statement that, "Hey, you come get this kid. I'm just fixing to throw it out the yard. Here's the wrench in the gears. If they want to each other up, that's a whole another issue we can handle. Complicated part right now is going to be the safety of of the child. Now, here's the deal. I've got him 100% calm out there right now talking to me just like two grown guys talking. >> And he here's the problem though. He wants you to come talk to him and then he said, "I'll give the child over." He said, "Well, if you try to take the child away from me, you're going to have to put me down." I said, "Well, dude, here." I said, "Don't make like that cuz that'll launch me." But here's the problem, Robert. I'm not going to rip a kid out of yarn cuz I'm afraid our struggle is going to happen and kids going to go get dropped. You don't want [snorts] that. >> It appeared the father was trying to shift blame onto the child's mother. >> This woman, I called her for help Thursday night. >> Okay. I said, "Katie, I'm about ready to off myself or get back on drugs." Her exact words was, "Cut your hand off and leave me a piece so I can draw money on both." I said, "Okay, what if I go get on?" She said, "Go get high." >> She said, "Go >> get high." All right. Now, the second burger is there's two in the house with a convicted felon. >> Who Who's that? >> Her daddy. Okay. But that's in Carlile, right? >> It's in Carile. >> I'll pass that in. I got a really good contact over Carl. I'll pass that along to him >> because she hasn't come talk to me and she's probably said whatever the [ __ ] she wants to say in there. That's cool. >> She has. When I've been talking to her, she's not said a bad word about you. >> Even when police try to mediate and calm both sides. The situation did not improve. >> All right, Robbie, let's come up here and have a conversation. We're going to let you guys talk to each other. Okay. >> Yeah. Grab her chair. She can sit down. I'm fine. >> I want you sit down and talk to me. >> She says she wants to stand up. >> Please. Please sit down and talk to me. >> All right. Well, let me grab her chair. What's wrong? Why are you crying? >> Look at you. Look at you. >> Because he did it in front of my kid and then I grabbed my kid from you and he car and pointed it at me right there in this hallway. So I grabbed to defend myself. >> I know this. Calm down. >> How am I in the wrong? I'm I'm calm. I'm calm. This is just me expressing myself. I'm not yelling. I know. >> How am I in the wrong for defending myself over my kid? >> You're not. >> Did I do anything wrong today? >> No, but you shouldn't. You know how y'all are, right? He should have never put his hands on me. He knows when he does it's on. >> He shouldn't I'm not going to her. Promise. He shouldn't have stood up and grabbed me like yes and told me I'm going to apologize for something that I don't have to. >> I know this. >> Hey, actually here y'all. >> He shouldn't have got up and put his hands on and did that first. I know that. He knows how he triggers you. I know that. >> But he shouldn't have done nothing and kept going with Bo in my hands. I come got Bo to stop it. >> I know that. But y'all you know. >> And then you went and hid. But I needed you to go with me to the tiny house so it could all stop. >> Probably don't go to the tiny house. >> Why? Because when you get like this, it's no good for nobody. >> All I needed you to do is calm me down and not tell me to kill myself and not tell me to get on. That's exactly what I told this man a minute ago when I called you for help. >> I know this. >> How am I supposed to live that way? >> You got to take responsibility. >> I have took responsibility. I did it. Just like you told me you found a pipe. The reason you found a pipe is because I left it in the open where only you could reach it and help me. And then when you seen it, you said, "Why are you quitting? Keep going." >> Because you want to act crazy. I don't want to act crazy. I want to be normal. >> Then you got to go get help. >> I don't need help. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I do not. The only help I need is sitting in front of me. And they don't want to help. >> If Bo acted like this, whenever he gets older, we >> sure wouldn't call the law. You're in the hell would not call the law. >> No, we called so they would get you some mental health. >> I'm not going for mental health. They can sit me all they want. I know exactly what to tell them and I will be out today. >> After reviewing the events, authorities determined it was necessary to temporarily place the child in a safer environment. So, what's the game plan, sir? >> Since you agreed with Deputy Jones that once she came out here, you would give her That's the reason why we let that's why we had Katie come out here. >> That's fine. But what am what's happening after I give this kid up? >> This is step one right now for me is to make sure that the mama the mama gets >> I have to have some assurance to know I'm not going to jail cuz if I go to jail, I'm spending the next 30 years in jail. That's what you're not understanding. And then that's life that I'm not going to get to see. >> And this is the only thing that keeps me alive. >> I understand that, Robbie. I got kids, too. Deputy Jones, we all understand it here. We got with kids and everything >> here. Thank you, son. Thank you, son. Take me. That's what happens, too. >> Thank you. >> Thank you, Robbie. >> Thank you, Robbie. We appreciate it. Go ahead. >> We appreciate it. So, you're just being detained right now. Okay. >> Can you put them in front? I have a bad wrist. >> As long as you don't sit there and do anything crazy, >> Robbie, >> you are to be ashamed. This is happening in front of my boy. Y'all will never see him again. >> Robbie, calm down. Calm down. Calm down. >> I'm calm, man. I'm ready to take me to jail so I don't take me. I don't want to go nowhere. Take me to jail. >> Okay. Rob, you got anything on you? >> No, sir. Could I please just sit here? You said you were detaining me. >> Yes, you are detained. But you said but you were you said let's take me >> because my family don't give a about me. Nobody here cares about me. If they did, there would not cause my dad wouldn't have come at me first. >> You want to have a seat? Have a seat. >> I'm I'm go get my drink right here. All I'm doing >> that's fine. >> The father suddenly showed strong emotional distress. This highlights the importance of mental health support and professional guidance in parenting challenges. >> Okay. Okay, Robbie, it's going to be okay, buddy. I promise. Okay, >> so listen to listen to me, Robbie. >> What? I'm listening. >> I know. I know you are. >> I do what I thought was right yesterday. I come up here to get my kid. My dad's pissed at me over what I did. I've been cussed again. So, what good did it do to me snitch on somebody yesterday? What good did that do? And then my then my dad goes and screaming and hollering to man when he walks in the house. >> I was out here whenever that happened and stuff. Okay. >> What good is it done? What good is any of it done? Any of what good is it done? >> Get your drink. Calm down. >> Can you answer that? What good is any of it done? I should have just took my charges and went to jail for the rest of my life yesterday because this wouldn't happen today. >> But why did it happen today? >> Because he's pissed off at me because of what I did. He told me yesterday. >> He wasn't mad about that. He was mad that what you said to your mom last night. >> I told my mother last night cuz I didn't ask my father for help. I was going to if somebody didn't help me get my car out so I could go drive. When I get in a mood, I have to drive or it does not stop. And whether it's driving 2 mph or 150 mph, you get what I'm saying? >> Yes. >> I have to get behind the wheel of something. And my dad, I come up here and I said, "Dad, I need your help to get my car or I'm going to end up killing myself." And his exact words was, "Just go do it then." Well, father does that. >> I understand that. Family issues. >> Evidently, he ain't my father. >> Family my whole life. >> We have all different issues with our family. My dad always told me my uncle's my daddy. Let's go. Let's go. Thank you. >> Yeah. You're welcome, buddy. >> Give me a kiss before I go, honey. Cuz you ain't going to get it for 30. >> Okay. >> I love you. Don't be stupid. Get some help. >> Will get some help. >> I'll try and get you out. Get some help. >> Back in the day. >> Yeah. You just got to get some help, bro. You just got to get some help. >> You have to get some help. You got to get some help. Oh, hang on. That hurt my back. Damn >> it. >> We're good. I'm going to take you to the ER. Okay. >> All right. You want that on? >> So, I'm going run up here and talk to them real quick just to see. I'm sorry. sitting in the middle of the road. >> The father faces charges including firstdegree wanted and endangerment, secondderee burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, domestic violence, and fourth degree causing minority. Under Kentucky law, the combined sentences for these offenses could total up to 26 years in prison. Under mental stress, everyone needs proper support. Seeking help from support organizations, mental health professionals, or authorities is a safe solution rather than acting impulsively. Why >> don't you move on to the next? >> Yeah. What did you >> I'm sorry, buddy. [laughter] >> It's so funny. >> Minutes later, this mother would encounter legal consequences related to the incident. On the night of July 1st, 2022, Florida police patrolling US1 spotted a red Honda driving erratically, failing to maintain speed and lane, and even crossing into oncoming traffic at times. When they stopped the car, they realized the driver had been involved in a similar incident before, and this time, a child was sleeping in the passenger seat. 511 information only that vehicle was called in as a reckless at 19:30 tonight. >> Copy. Driver is swerving all over the road 219. >> Hi. Is he okay? Can you wake him up from Are you sleeping? >> Then you're still >> okay. Uh insurance can >> No, no, no. Sleep. Can you come out? And you can't tell me why you're driving like that? Sorry for the day. Yes. >> But why? Why you >> stand Islamada? Yes. >> You speak Russian, Victor? >> Yeah. >> Why? >> One second. >> You're good. I mean, you're not good, but you're going to you're going to kill yourself the way you're driving. >> Police conducted driving and reflex tests. However, the driver showed a lack of cooperation, failing to comply with officer's requests during the field sobriety tests. Can you stand with your heels together, hands by your side? Okay, stay just like that. Do you see the tip of my pen? Do you see the tip of my >> She told me that she does. >> Do you see the tip of my pen? >> Yes. >> Can you touch it with your finger? >> I haven't checked it. >> Okay. I want you to keep your eyes on this. No, you can put Keep your eyes on this. Do not move your head. Okay. Put your hands by your side. Okay. Just keep your eyes on it. Can you open your eyes a little wider? >> Okay. You You can't move your head. >> Oh, sure. You can turn like when how they turn this. >> Okay. Sorry. Please open your eyes. >> Yes. Yes. Good. Keep them just like that. Look at the pen. >> Are you serious? >> Yes. I'm serious. Look at the pen. >> I don't know why you're laughing. This isn't >> Okay. I looked at this pen. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I need you to be serious. Okay. Tip of my pen. She's squing her eyes, moving. She's making it so I can So she keeps >> Okay, that's fine. That's fine. Why don't you move on to the next one? >> I'm sorry. [laughter] I'm glad that you think this is funny. During the next test, the driver did not follow the officer's instructions promptly. Are >> we going to continue with the second uh exercise? >> If you want to give me the ticket [laughter] 45, but I can't do it cuz she keeps looking away squing her eyes. >> I just thought, >> please. Please. I'm so funny. I'm so You want to do this? That way or maybe this way because we the camera I long time living in Miami never never have I'm so sorry. All right. Don't be sorry. Just listen to my instructions. Okay. >> Yeah, sure. Okay. I'm fine. Like I feel like I'm ready. >> You ready? >> Yeah, sure. >> Okay. So, you see this line right here? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I want you to stand. Get in the starting position. You're going to stand left foot behind, right foot in front, heel to toe together, hands by your side. Can you put your heel and toe together? >> Okay. When I tell you to begin, you're going to take nine lane. >> You're going to take nine heel to toe steps on the line. >> You're then going to turn around. >> Keeping one foot on the line and return taking nine heel toe steps. Okay. Once you begin, do not stop until the exercise is completed. >> Do you understand these instructions? >> I understand. >> Do you want him to explain it to you or do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. You sure? Are you are you going to go are you going to go back? >> When asked to cooperate, the driver did not comply, [music] leading officers to take further action in accordance with the law. >> I'm going to explain. >> Okay, cool. Okay. this year. Come on, let's go to jail. Come on. Take my son and go to jail. >> Ma'am, what is Listen to his instructions. >> Hey, stop. Stop. >> Do not resist. You're going to get another charge. Ma'am, >> please. Please. Please. >> Ma'am, please. >> She's pulling away. >> What's going on? >> Relax. Ma'am. Ma'am, >> stop. Stop. >> Stop. >> Don't tase her. Don't do it. We got her. Get her on. >> Pull yourself11. Resisting. Stop, man. 1111. Got one resisting. Damn, you're going to get tasered. >> Stop. >> Female cousin. I hope you're happy, >> man. Stop resisting. >> You're only making it worse for yourself. >> Just have a seat in the car. >> Have a seat. >> Put your leg in. >> Put your leg in. Put your leg in. >> I will pepper spray you. Put your leg in the car now. Don't make it worse. >> Ma'am, please have a seat. >> Put your leg in the car. Have a seat. Ma'am, >> give me the ticket. I going to home. Please, >> it's not a drink. >> You're going to jail. >> You're going to jail. >> Please. Ma'am, if you me, you're going to get a felony, >> my son. >> Put your leg in the car.
