So, you're going to take me to jail with no under on, as a male officer? >> Put stop. Put the child down. What the Get off my hair. I'm pregnant. I'm having a miscarriage. WHAT IS ILLEGAL WHAT YOU'RE DOING? >> CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED? I'm your parent and guardian. I said no. >> Oh, she's not in her bed. Did she say something? She didn't tell you that. She is not in her bed. No, she didn't. These mothers share one thing in [music] common, unintentionally letting their children become caught up in adult conflicts. Each story highlights parental responsibility and serves as a reminder of the law's role and the fine line between discipline and harmful [music] behavior. In Indiana, what seemed like a minor incident over a plate of french fries led to police involvement while the child was present. I'll talk to you. Can you talk to her? No. Well, I don't want to talk to her about what happened. >> She's a minor and I'm her mother. I do not want her speaking. January 27th, 2025, officers were called to a three-generation family dispute involving a grandmother, the mother, [music] and a 12-year-old girl. It started over a meal when the mother and child had different opinions about a snack. >> [music] >> When the grandmother tried to intervene, the situation became more tense. I want to fill out I want to fill out a police report. >> No, no, baby. No, no. I was cutting french fries. >> See what I got to deal with? Do you see what I have to deal with? And this IS THE SAME TIME THEY CAME IN AND HAD A CONVERSATION WITH ME. I was cutting french fries and I dropped it. Cuz you had my granddaughter in the room. You know, my granddaughter. She was snatching me french fries. right here. You're a liar. >> Is there anyone else in the household other than [clears throat] you? >> No, it's me and my baby. Talk to my granddaughter. SHE'S 12 YEARS OLD. I'M NOT ALLOWING MY CHILD TO SPEAK TO NO OFFICER. SHE'S GOT TO GO. QUICKLY CALM DOWN, MA'AM. Go over there, okay. I'm going to speak with her, all right? >> Okay. Officer Callahan, let me turn on my body cam. I'm on the scene here recording, okay? >> Hey there. What happened? >> She was cutting french fries. I pulled out the dinner for my child to eat, some meatloaf and gravy and rice. I told her she was eating up her dinner she got irate, turned around with the Who got irate? She did. Okay. She's going through This is the second time that that officer has been here. I'm not allowing my child to speak to you on the camera. I'm just letting Okay. So, let me know that. So, she turned around with the knife in her hand. I knocked her cane to the floor. She approached me with a told my daughter she'd be eating the fries. I said my daughter won't. My daughter said she'd be eating it, so I popped her in the head and said you're not eating no fries. You're going to eat what whatever I cook you. And so, she got irate, came in. My daughter started crying. She got irate, came in and snatching on me. And I we got to yelling at my child and told my child I'm your mother. You eat what I give you. She got irate, had a knife again, came into the room, dialed 911. I told her dial 911. You're the one that's irate. You're the one with your mother. This is my [ __ ] child. I wanted to discipline my child, I could. That is that is all. A little fast, let me see if to see if I got everything, okay? So, basically, grandma's making french fries, okay? She wants to give her french fries. You don't want her to eat the french fries. >> What I said was that she was having gravy and meatloaf and rice. Okay. She got irate. >> So, grandma then gets irate with her hand because She's going to eat the french fries. No, she's not going to eat the fries. She's going to eat the meatloaf, rice, and green beans. >> Okay. >> upset. Okay. And then She's a liar. So, she had the cane in her hand and you >> No, the knife the cane I knocked to the floor. The knife she had in her hand. I knocked the cane to the floor. You didn't knock her Oh, you just knocked the cane down. >> 100%. >> So, you just knocked the cane down. >> That's a startle, man. Yeah. It was in her hand. >> Okay. Did she say she was going to cut you or anything like that or was it just like just in her hand? It was in her hand. Look like this. If you don't get out of my face, I'm going to lay your ass out. I'm 42 years old, you're 67. >> Why did you bop her in the head? Because she kept talking back to me about wanting the fries and eating the fries. And I told her that's not what she was eating. She's eating a full course meal. Okay. So, then I'm her mother. So, she said that I want to eat the fries. You said no. >> I said no. She talked >> She was talking back and you bopped her in the head. When you say you bopped her in the head, was it like a open hand? >> She got irate. Okay. And so, then There's a you know, there's parental discipline and stuff like that, okay? So, yeah. And I don't see any cuts on her head or anything like that. Okay. And then So, then after you bop her in the head, she got irate? Okay. And then you bop her in the head, she still has the knife. Did you go to a different room or she go to a different room? >> My daughter went to the room. I went to the room to grab her so she could come back and get her hair done. Okay. She dialed 911. Okay. So, then she So, your daughter goes to your her room. You go to the room to grab her. Did grandma follow you with the Yes. In multi-generational households, differences in [music] parenting approaches often lead to conflicts that are hard to resolve. has a black handle. Oh, I I believe she had it in her hand, don't get me wrong. I believe she had it in her hand. I'm not saying that at all. You then go to a different room to go get your daughter and she has the in her hand, she's calling 911. Yes. Let me just Okay. But besides, you know, the bop to the head, no other physical complications like that. Okay. And then Hold on, ma'am. I don't want her getting >> it. No, no, no. We're not going to go over I don't want I don't want my child I don't want my child named in your police report. Can you please stop No, because you cannot go back there. >> You're being forced on female. I'm I'm giving you I'm giving you I'm giving you a direct order. I know. I'm not irate with you. I understand that and I appreciate that. So, just okay. Sit over there, okay? Sit over there while I speak with him, okay? All right? Awesome. Okay. You do your job. See you She said that she's cooking french fries. I don't argue with them because She's just being very She came in here and grabbed her shirt like chest area. Threw the cane down. And then the grandbaby came running in here and exposed her She was like grabbing like right in here. And I was like, okay. Keep her in the back of the So, basically, what she said was she wanted to eat the fries. She said no. She said talking back. She said no I'm her mother. She said no, bopped her in the head. I told her this is parental discipline. She said no cuz she's talking back. And then she said she had in her hand. And that's when she was the cane, she knocked the cane down. Basically, stopped the discipline. And then the kid dialed 911. She left the kid to go get her hair done. And then she came back in here with on the phone with 911. Yeah. I think we just Yeah, it's It's a law parental assault here. We got to figure out some sort of resolve this issue or some sort of cuz I don't come right back here. Oh, yeah. When the police arrived, their goal was to help calm the situation. [music] Tensions rose as the mother's reaction made the disagreement more intense. So, just with everything going on, is there anywhere else you guys can go for the night? I'm not saying you have to leave or anything like that. >> here. I was just wondering if there's anywhere else, you know, just for the night. >> that it's my child, Adam's and that's why I'm not allowing my child named. >> Right now, where we're at is we want to end this problem, okay? >> a problem. Well, it seems like there is. There's a reason why we got called here. Cuz I rate her, I rate I mean, you guys were both yelling at each other when we walked me and her. I asked for a police report. Why don't you get a police report? >> I already told you that we're going to have one documented. So, I can't get a copy of that? I can't physically give you a copy. I can give It's state law that you're supposed to give me a copy of So, there's no there's a Is there an incident? I I can give you the incident report. Now, you're being irate. I'm not being irate. I'm I'm following state protocol. Where in state Where in state protocol is it? Okay. So, like I said, there's a FOIA, okay? Freedom of Information, okay? Once we generate the report and get everything going, you can FOIA this report, okay? And then you can get the whole copy yourself, all right? So, that being said, clearly there's a conflict here, okay? We don't want to have to keep on coming back out here or someone else, you know, You don't have to come back out here. So, what's the What's the solution for tonight? You came out here and that's just that. That's just that. She has a problem, that's just that. I have nowhere to go, me or my child. And so, that's just that. What I'm not going to do is leave my child here with her if she had a That's a problem. So, she can stay in her little 50 ft or 25 ft away from me and I'll stay away from her. I'm here doing something productive. I'm not saying you're I'm not saying you're not. Okay. We can switch officers. You got No, we're not going to push off a cop, okay? What we're going to do So, you're just being ridiculous. I'm not. You're doing the same thing. No, I'm trying to talk to you and you're I'm trying to talk to you and you're and you're just kind of insulting me now I'm not insulting you. I'm following state protocol. That's what we're doing. So, awesome. So, she has We're not going to speak with her, okay? Basically, she has she has nowhere to go, but she said she's willing to not speak with her for the rest of the night. Yeah, she's going to pull this card. The situation worsened when the mother tried to prevent her daughter from speaking with [music] the officers, requiring the officers to step in. I am a police officer. You don't want me to talk to your partner. You're here both on the answer We're not We're not We're not going to do a shop with a cop thing, okay? You already spoke with me about everything like that, okay? >> Why can't I speak to your other officer? >> I'll talk to you. Can you talk to her? No. I don't want to talk to her about what happened. >> She's a minor and I'm her mother. I do not want her speaking. Well, I believe she saw something. I believe she did not. She's a minor and she's my child. I am her parent and guardian. I said no. Can you tell me what happened? I'm your parent and guardian. I said no. Well, she's not in her bed. Did she say something? Pardon? She's not in her bed. Did she say something? She didn't tell you that. She is not in her bed. No, she didn't. No, she didn't. No, she didn't. It's Okay. Miss So, do you want to tell us what happened? The mom she How many times? How often do you mother hit you? is what he's trying to ask you. Nope, I'm asking her how many times did your I don't discipline her. So, ask her the correct questions. Ask her How many times did she hit you in the head? Was it just one, two, three? Was grandma pulling you as well? You're a liar. Did it pull my hair? You're a liar. When you When you say she pulled your hair, what did she She yanked on your hair. She yanked on your hair. Did you like fall back or anything like that in the room? No. So, when she pulled on your hair, just so I understand, okay? Was it like, "Hey, come here." or was it like a come here? And she like yanked on your hair. The last question for you, ma'am. I I know she said she you pulled on her hair. How hard did you pull on her hair? Just be honest with us. Even small conflicts can affect [music] a child's sense of security and trust. Parents are legally responsible for how they handle such situations. I don't know how I know. Is there a reason you hit her? Uh for talking back to me as I'm told I know and I'm a grown man as a parent. Okay. So, I know you said you didn't pull her hair hard at all, but I have questions for you. Why do we have a whole strand I have questions for you, please. Why do we have a whole strand of hair She's being very forceful. Here's the a Why is her hair on the floor? Cuz usually you pulling someone's hair is I wouldn't say it's parent discipline like to pull someone's hair out. >> and I'm braiding her hair. It slipped out. I'm braiding her hair. I'm African-American and I'm braiding her hair. >> I understand that, but we're talking about this hairpiece that's over here. Cuz there was a hair being pulled. The hair came out. >> I'm doing her hair and it slipped out. I'm braiding her hair and it slipped out. >> parent discipline thing, I don't think anything with cheating would be like involved >> Did she tell you that though? in this one? Yes, she did. >> She did not tell you that. Yes, she did. >> No, she didn't. >> All right, you're under arrest. Stand up. Turn around. Face the back. Let me put on some shoes. All right, we'll put your shoes on soon. All right, hold on a second. Okay, where are the shoes at? In the room. Which room? Uh in that room. In this room? Yeah. All right, right in the room with the shoes. All right, can I put on some underwear? Yeah, that's perfectly fine. Just hold on a second. >> My hands are handcuffed. Let me put on some underwear. All right, we're not doing all this. >> I have no underwear on. You're taking me into custody. >> Well, sorry you don't have under How are you supposed to put on underwear at this point? Cuz you're in custody. >> grabbing them and putting them on. You can do that with your hands behind your back in cuffs. >> Can you uncuff me so I can put them on? You're going to take me with no underwear on. Is your camera on? So you're going to take me to jail with no underwear on as a male officer. But that's sexual harassment. Harassment with the shoes, okay. That's not It's called harassment, sir. Can I Can I get my gym shoes? >> gym shoes and what shoes are they? Are they those Converse right there? All right, go in here. Flip the light so I can see. >> working. I can show your flashlight, sir. >> Where in here are the shoes? >> He's asking me a question. >> Okay, I didn't ask you to come in here. I'm saying you need to come out. >> you. RIGHT THERE IN THE CORNER. YOU'RE NOT LOOKING with your flashlight. These black ones? Why are you being so difficult? Step back out. >> Mother [ __ ] I I DON'T CARE. I'LL GET RIGHT OUT. THE police remained calm, handling the situation according to regulations while protecting the child's rights and respecting the parent's role. Go ahead and take that. Sorry. My face is showing in your camera. I just put the shoes Put the shoes on the ground for her. Shoes on. >> Yeah, I know. What about a jacket? Can I have a lot of jackets? I'll pull my car up here. It'll be soon. Where's the coat? I don't want no excuses. I can't put that on. My hands are cuffed. That's why I'm going to put it right here. Sure you You can leave that in the pocket. You can leave the ID. Everything else you can take out the pocket. >> [snorts] >> Troy, put the shoe on her. We'll get her in your car and then 10-4. The mother was taken to the station for legal processing. Yeah, this one. Is it Say what? I didn't say anything. No, okay. I have a a device in my vaginal area. That's a federal device. It's a 911 call. 21 It's a 911 call. >> What is that mean? It's a a device uh federal agents are watching. It's electronic. Sound like a firearm or anything? It's like a firearm. Uh it's a uh it's a cigar call for 911. We have Do you have Are you familiar with the 911 second city thing or New York or anything like that? No, I'm just Sure. Can you take a seat and I can talk to you about it? What is it? Uh it's a cigar. Uh Yeah, it's for uh 911 to release to the uh police station in Chicago. I don't know if it'll be brought or anything like that. Um but it's in my vaginal area. So that's something you're able to take out? No. No, it's It's from JB Pritzker. It's a government call. So what are you doing like this thing to make sure like no one's going to search everything? So make sure no one's touching you. Yeah, no, that's fine. I didn't ask. The mother faced a battery charge in Indiana. The maximum penalty can be up to 1 year in jail [music] and a $5,000 fine. The story serves as a strong reminder of how parents manage emotions [music] and resolve family conflicts. Discipline isn't wrong, but the way it's applied determines whether it supports a child's growth or creates negative consequences. A 911 call triggered a high-profile case when police discovered evidence suggesting potential exposure to substances in a child's environment. And the situation began with the mother herself. What the [ __ ] is going on? She said that she's peeing on something. She said she's peeing and I'm like, "Okay." May 2nd, 2023, officers were dispatched to an apartment after reports that a 3-year-old girl may have been exposed to Witnesses on site quickly assisted the child, checking her breathing and calling for medical help. Upon arrival, authorities immediately gathered information to verify the situation. A little bit more uh a little bit more uh yeah, extreme. So I'd rather I see her like holding and sipping and like pounding on her chest and I'm like, "What's going happening? What's going on?" She's like, "I think she took something." I said, "Okay, well, I got her to give her to me." And I started pounding on her back and then pounding on her chest. Summer, could she have gotten into anything? And she said yes or she said yes or no. I don't remember if she said yes or no, but I know the history. I know So I just really grabbed my and I gave her windows. Uh maybe in the left nostril. I don't remember which nostril it was. She kind of made a guess. I waited a little bit, gave her the other one in the other nostril. In the meantime of all that happening, I called 911, got the operator on the phone and then she walked me through putting her So I'm trying to let her calm down. She just went in there and put her on. No, you need you guys want to search her. Cuz she's got She's probably [ __ ] high. All right, I'm happy with restraining her or whatever you guys No, that's not happening. Yeah, I get her out of the All right, I'm sorry. Where's the towel? Does she use the condom she has? That was okay. All right, so I don't know what the Police went upstairs to speak with the mother. Instead of staying calm, she became uncooperative and agitated, leading authorities to detain her following proper procedure. I was going to take her pants off. Yeah, I'm only looking. You've lost the ability to be I didn't lose the ability to be alive at all. 100%. >> There's a medical professional. You have to You didn't finish your thing. I hear everything that's going on. >> Yeah, we're going to finish that at the hospital. No, what? Hey, let's go. Let's go to the car. I want to All right, is that here or is it somewhere else? No, baby, we're going out there. I need a diaper. I didn't know you were an officer. I thought you were an EMT. Put your like She needs a diaper. That's why I'm getting her a diaper. You guys Mom, they're not LETTING ME PUT A DIAPER ON HER. SHE HAS TO give me issues. She needs a diaper. Turn around. A DIAPER. PLEASE, SIR. SIR. SIR, WHY? NO. NO, WHY? I THOUGHT YOU WERE EMTS. I WAS TRYING TO GET DRESSED. SHE DOESN'T HAVE A DIAPER ON. THEY WOULDN'T LET ME GRAB IT. That's all right. I wasn't even checking their I'll grab her a couple of her things. Stupid things. I didn't know THEY WERE COPS. I wasn't paying attention to what they were. I was just trying to get ready. I don't even have a bra on for the hospital. Now they're arresting me. Does she have a little toy that she would like to bring with her? I'll double lock her handcuffs so NO, YOU GUYS >> [laughter] >> PLEASE, I WANT TO GO. PLEASE, STOP. PLEASE, I WANT TO GO. GO TO JAIL. PLEASE, STOP. NO. THERE'S NOTHING IN MY PANTS. OW. STOP. OW, I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I CAN'T BREATHE. I CAN'T BREATHE. THIS ISN'T FAIR. I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO the [ __ ] last minute WITH MY LET'S GO. >> [screaming] >> I'M TRYING TO MAKE THE HANDCUFFS LESS TIGHT. >> IT'S TOO TIGHT. WHAT THE GET OFF MY HEAD. I'M PREGNANT. I'M HAVING A MISCARRIAGE. Flip onto your stomach. You're [ __ ] standing on my bones. Flip onto your stomach so they can lock your handcuffs. You knew it. >> I would advise you not to assault me. I'm not on your spine. >> You are right here. It's literally on your hip. My [ __ ] spine. STOP TOUCHING ME. STOP touching me. You're under arrest. >> Okay, well, get off of me. Stop moving. YOU GOT TO ALL RIGHT, SHE'S NOT LETTING ME DO IT. ALL RIGHT. JUST LET HER. CAN YOU LISTEN TO IT NOW? NO. NOW THAT YOU'RE DONE manhandling me. I'll double lock them. Although the mother claimed she was pregnant and showing signs of a miscarriage, >> [music] >> authorities followed proper procedures to ensure EVERYONE'S SAFETY. OW. [screaming] STOP YELLING. NO, they're hurting. STOP MOVING. OKAY, DUH. PLEASE, LISTEN. Look at the cuffs. Up stupid [ __ ] You should BE CUFFED. IT'S JUST FINE AT ALL. YOU'RE DONE. YOU'RE DONE. LET'S TALK. BE QUIET. >> LET GO of my Be quiet. >> THIS IS HURTING. BE QUIET. I'LL ADJUST THEM. SIR, CAN YOU LISTEN TO ME? I'm trying to adjust them. This is my house. Till I get to your house. Right this is not your house. Please be quiet. We're in here. Please. >> I WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN LIKE THIS. [screaming] STOP. NO. I DON'T LIKE THIS. >> [crying] >> STAY like that and I'll loosen YOUR HANDCUFFS, OKAY? NO. I'M TALKING TO THE CIVIC. STOP. That's fine. OKAY. HE'S JUMPING ON ME. DOGS. Your dogs are fine. I'm literally having a miscarriage right now and you're putting me in handcuffs right now. I'm so technically I'm pregnant. That's illegal. Like seriously. You want to wait for your mom? Uh let's Are they clear down there? No, they're still cleaning. Yeah, let's wait till they're done cleaning. WHY CAN'T I GO TO the hospital? Did she already leave? LEGALLY DID SHE ALREADY LEAVE? In situations like this, cooperation can greatly reduce tension, but unfortunately, the mother continued to resist. Baby. Going to take some photos, too. Yeah. Don't take photos of my [ __ ] grill. Are you serious? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? Of what? NOT CHILD ENDANGERMENT. I DON'T EVEN KNOW if she did. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY. I thought she was sleeping on her thumbs. Do you see the thumb? We were all She's laughing. We'll let the hospital figure that out. Well, you don't need to I'm not going to touch you. No, please. You're sweaty. PLEASE. I'VE OBVIOUSLY COUGHED. STOP. STOP. NO, DON'T TOUCH ME. NO, you're staying here until I get you figured out. WHY ARE YOU PUTTING YOUR [ __ ] BODY on me? I'm not doing anything. What [laughter] you need to do is sit here and not move. Why? Get off my body. We want you to stop moving. If you stop moving and you sit calmly, then I'll stop. Don't touch me. Additional officers were called in to support, ensuring the family's safety and carefully assessing the apartment situation. She's super squirrely and squirming around. BECAUSE THEY'RE TOUCHING ME. AND they're sweaty. Stop. My room was literally just being cleaned. Now you're trying to say, "Oh the Where is this evidence of child endangerment? Oh that I have too much clothes." There you go. clothes. Mom. All right. Now let me double lock these so they don't get any tighter on you. How can I take some medicine before I go into the jail? Are you going to overdose? How can I overdose? You can overdose on something. I'm not going to overdose. I need to give a couple to the nurse and then I'll have one. Okay, they can provide it. If you have a prescription for it. No, my prescription's out. I have a couple. I want to take with to jail or I will Yes, I will. We'll make sure to get you your medical stuff down there, okay? No. Yes. >> want to take my medicine. No. Hey, stop trying to mess with your cuffs. I'm not going to get it by tonight. And I'm going to go into [ __ ] shock in the floor of Clark County. Never get THAT'S NOT HOW IT'S COMING OUT. THEY'LL GET IT YES, it is. I just tried. Can I just grab some No, absolutely not. Come Okay, you guys don't care about that. Are they clear down there? Do you want any shoes? Do you have any slip-on slippers? I want to go to the bathroom. Okay, we'll get you to the bathroom at jail. No, I don't know. Okay, no. Come on. We're going downstairs. I want to go to the bathroom. >> No, we're going downstairs now. We we can Whatever you stuffed into your pants, we'll get it later. Yeah, I can I can see this, too. Come on. There's something in your shirt. There isn't. That's my third nipple. All right. You know what? I can't discuss that. During the inspection, an officer noticed the room was cluttered and contained items that raised safety concerns, especially since this is the child's living space. You want to just stand there and get photos and look around now? Yeah. Mom, I told you I wasn't taking photos of my [ __ ] clothes that I just TORE APART. STOP. WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING WHERE DID THOSE CLOTHES GO? IF YOU FIND HER car keys, let me know. Okay. Are you okay, officers? I am. Okay, I'm just going to I am. What does her keys look like? Just trying to see what the child might have taken. The last time I saw anything like I saw foil was in a little container on her nightstand >> nightstand, but that's all I saw. Did I just see in the foil or debris? Like usually I find some with debris. >> Was that today? No. Not today. She is chronic user. Of what? Um she goes through phases where she will get clean. Okay. But yeah, we've been fighting this Your mom? Your mom, I'm assuming. She's not on the lease, but I can't keep I can't keep her out. She She doesn't have a lease. Yeah, you would have to get like a eviction. So you can do that through the court or if you feel like there's other issues that require a protection order, then file for one of those at the courthouse as well. And um those are kind of your two options right now for not having her here. I found the foil. That's what you found the foil in the drawer. >> on the table when I saw it. >> The last time? Yeah. How long ago was that? >> Well, that was maybe a little bit before lunchtime. Oh, today? Yeah, yeah. The child's grandmother, present at the scene, provided additional context about the mother's past challenges and health history. Did the daughter admit to you at all that she was using? Today? No, she didn't want to admit anything. But you know your daughter is a drug Yeah, I know she's addicted to some I I think it's I can't be for certain. >> She was asking to take her medicine or else she would not Yeah, she was asking She She doesn't have any action which she says she doesn't have She doesn't have any right now. She's Is there a reason you keep a can on you? Well, I'm also kind of in the medical field. I I'm a tech, licensed vet tech, and I know my daughter uses, so I wanted to have it on hand. And I work at the new MedVet in Vancouver. We've had a couple overdoses out there. So that's why I have >> help your daughter get clean. I'm trying. Do you know it's it's damn near impossible to keep the kids safe while you're trying It's too much on one person. >> I know. I have been struggling. Overworked trying to save one over the other. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. That's going to be a That's a tough family decision. You know what I mean? Yeah, I saw no remorse. She's not in her right frame of mind right now. So I'm not going to fault her for that. But it's her choices. [clears throat] Yeah, that's a tough being a >> That But that's also a disease. It is, but it has to be treated and you can't fix them. I know. I can't help them try to fix them. Yes, I understand that, but if she's not going to go, what am I supposed to do? Remorse on who's part? Well, yeah. I mean, you Of course. I I would love to see the remorse, but she All right, sometimes you can't help her and all you can do is try to get custody of the kids and take care of the children. It is such a mess right now with the courts because there's a court case in a different county and we can't do and here in Clark County, unfortunately. The situation became more complex due to existing [music] legal disputes within the family. Okay, perfect. Came back as negative. Okay, there's probably foil in the bedroom. >> Probably, yeah. So we're we're locking it down like a crime scene right now cuz we we legally entered it. So there is a restraint There's two competing restraining orders between her and the one that protects her from him. Uh she the children are listed, but then there's also one protecting him from her. So I'm getting a copy to see if the children are also listed. I mean, I know it's competing orders, but if it lists it in there and she's not supposed to have the kids and this is happening. You know what I Yeah, but they're emailing it to me, so. Inside, the grandmother recounted in detail what had happened to the child. You called us Yeah. regarding Regarding getting help. I wasn't for sure if what I was doing was helping, so I wanted to get the professionals here. >> What did you do before you called us? Well, I came out of my room cuz I was sleeping cuz I work graveyard cuz I heard Summer screaming and I saw her coming out of her room holding a limp. is going on. She said, "Did she pee on something?" She said she's choking and I'm like, "Okay." So we brought her in my room. I took her from Summer and started pounding on her back, pounding on her chest, and I wasn't getting any results. I said, "Summer, could she have gotten into anything?" And she I believe said there's a possibility or something like that. Or maybe I'm making it I don't know. I said, "Call 911." She went in her room to find her phone and I was like at that point also trying to get my can. I had I had my in my drawer next to my bed. >> You're worried that you're I was cuz she was totally unresponsive. Just limp. Lips were blue. Administered the first dose in her I think her left right nostril. She said she made like a little bit of a breath. I'm like, "Okay, she's coming around." I kept talking to her. Oh, and by that time I did have 911 on the phone. No, I didn't have them on the phone yet. And this was after you gave her the dose, right? Yeah. And then I gave her the second dose because the she still wasn't, you know, coming around well. After the second dose is when I got a little bit more of a response. Like she breathed a little bit better. Maybe a couple of like, you know, kind of breaths like that. >> Short breaths. Yeah. And I was still screaming at Summer. I said, "Call 911. Call 911." Cuz she still wasn't Nothing had happened. So I'm like I think in the middle of giving the the second or I don't know if I'd already given the second dose or before I gave the second dose, I called 911 on my phone cuz it was right there. And so she she was breathing. I could hear it. I could feel it. And then she eventually like right before you guys came, she actually looked like alert. I put her on her side just in case she's, you know, vomited. And Summer was putting clothes on her. And then I heard the knock on the door. I went downstairs, opened the door for Did you hear any like toilets flushing or anything? No, I didn't hear any toilets. that. Summer's Summer's toilet is um is not the best flushing. So, yeah, it doesn't always flush. >> Which she became a little bit more responsive. She She was looser in her in her jaw. So, I was able to get a little bit of a better look. I did see some debris on her tongue. I don't know what that was from, but yeah, she wasn't actively choking on anything that I could tell. Color of like a orange creamsicle, you It was kind of a orangey. And it was just a little bit. It looked like it was kind of dissolving. It wasn't solid. >> And you had mentioned earlier that you saw that tin foil in that black little container thing earlier today. What time do you think that was? >> Around 11:30. I remember sticking my head in there to check on everybody. And I did That's when I saw the thing next to the bed with the foil. And I asked her, I said, "What is that?" She just said it was to fix her candle. I don't And yeah, cuz she knows, and I will be honest with you, whenever I see foil in my house Reynolds, you know, foil container, I throw it away, cuz I know what it's for. Have you been around her when she's high? Oh, yeah. It's bad. When she gets money in her pocket, she don't know how to act. But it hasn't been a constant, you know, you see She's had her moments of sobriety and getting clean. And for whatever reason, something triggers her, and she starts using again. This family is involved in multiple custody disputes, making it even more challenging to protect the child's best interests. She was not supposed to bring any more animals here. I've already got two. And then she brought two cats, so it's destroyed my house. The whole house in here. It's pretty sweet. He puts up a lot with these little girls. >> [laughter] >> He was trying to get custody of the girls, basically. There's like a parenting agreement. That's not a finalized parenting agreement. Long story short, we've had these girls full-time for a year now. He got charged with I don't remember exactly the charges for him, but he's never actually gone to court yet for that, because he doesn't come to the court to him for that. And he's just recently got charged with and went to court for residential burglary. So, he hasn't had any contact with these girls for a year now. But when Summer Yeah, when Summer tried to full custody here, they wouldn't do it because that case is still going on in Green Harbor. Yeah, it's just a hot mess. And I don't know how to fix this. My assumption [snorts] is that CPS will probably get involved and at least temporarily place the kids in your place the kids in your custody. So, are you the one that took Summer to the hospital? >> Officer No, she's got her Officer Zafaris is the one that took the one I'm trying to be very calm with her and patient with her. >> Yeah, when she gets upset, it's really, really hard to get her to calm down, you know what I'm saying? And And I don't know if she's used today, but I know if she hasn't used, she's at least coming down. That affects her as well. She's mean as hell. >> When you moved here, did she just follow you or >> She came because she had nowhere else to go. And you know, I have to be involved with the girls, too, so >> easier for them all to be underneath one roof. Yeah, but the thing is, like she's not on the lease. She can't be on the lease. She's got a DV on her. I could not get her to leave as much as I wanted to get Yeah, try and get her to go out, like go to rehab, get clean, but she she refused to leave. >> that's what's the best No, it may not be the way you want to do it, but [snorts] we know the outcome That way will be what is best for them. Yeah, cuz what if I hadn't have been here? It's like she did not even want anybody to take photos, 100%. To be honest with you guys, and you can write it in your book, cuz I will tell the judge, she didn't even want me calling 911. She did not want me calling 911. She tried to stop She did hang up at one point. Nobody had answered yet, but I ain't calling them back. I mean, that's just cuz she doesn't want to get in trouble for the drugs, right? And I understand that, but god dammit, the baby's You know what I'm saying? And they are. While waiting for the detectives, police explained the investigation process and took temporary steps to ensure the child's well-being. Hi. I hope you understand that, but I stopped her. Yeah. Doesn't mean you're not going to see them again. But that's why I said you got to work on getting custody of them. That's And unfortunately, you're probably going to have to distance yourself from your daughter until she can fix herself. Well, I hope she just stays locked up till she can get help. She needs help. We're still waiting on the detectives, so we're still going to be here. One box. Six books. Do we take some or leave it? I feel like the photo is They're not going to Yeah, they're not going to test it for anything, so the kids aren't in here anymore, so Nothing. Uh we got our warrant, served it in the room, didn't find anything. Any other places in the house? I don't want to tear this whole place apart. I know you live here, too. Our warrant is for the whole place, but we don't want to >> Your car in the garage. Okay. We'll go take a look at the car. Our warrant doesn't have the car listed on it, but we'll go take a look. I don't see anything. We're not seeing anything in there. In the coming days, if you do find anything as you're living your life, give us a call, and we can come collect it. If you do find stuff, just don't move it. Just leave it where it is, as long as it's in a safe place, right? No one's going to you know, no dogs are going to get it or whatever, like like that. If it can't stay there, just leave it there. Call an officer, and we'll take some photos, and we'll take it from there. Okay. Uh I'm going to hand you a copy of our warrant, just to say that we just to say that we did it, and that it was signed by a judge. And then I'll just leave you with a blank property receipt. Did we take anything? Okay. I'm going to print out the the last thing I need to print out for you. >> Um also, um Yeah. did the guy Zach from the That's the DCYF or whatever. He was supposed to text me with information about if I can call first thing in the morning for the girls. Okay. received a text. And then you wait for you guys to >> that info for you. Finally, they announced the charges the mother would face. Jessica, so he said for now it's going to be the just the generic office number. I can give that to you. >> Somebody is going to probably get assigned to the kids at probably like 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning. Hopefully, there'll be a a specific person you can talk to at that time. Are they all felonies? Nope. Two of them are felonies, two of them are misdemeanors. So, the She was charged with obstruction, resisting, possession of controlled substance, being I think disorderly. So, those are all three are misdemeanors, and then felony child mistreatment in the second degree, and endangerment with a controlled substance. Any other questions for us? I don't think so. All right. I appreciate your cooperation, ma'am. Yeah, no worries. Yeah. Thanks, Dave. Thank you as well. The mother faced charges [music] of endangerment involving a controlled substance, second-degree criminal mistreatment, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement, and possession of a controlled substance. This story not only highlights a legal [music] case, but also serves as a reminder of the human element in handling situations involving children, where the line between emotion, responsibility, and the law is delicate. In New York, a mother alarmed the community by putting herself and her child in a dangerous situation during a moment of PANIC AND CONFUSION. DON'T TOUCH HER. DON'T TOUCH HER WITH THE DROP THE HOLD ON. DON'T STOP. MAY 14TH, 2024, officers received multiple calls from neighbors reporting loud disturbances and a child in distress. Concerned for the child's safety, they responded promptly, but the mother inside was uncooperative, prompting officers to request backup. Jennifer, Troy police. Yes, it is. Yeah, it's me. Need to talk to you, Jennifer. Jennifer! Jennifer, come down here right now. Answer the door. Troy police. Troy police. Come down here right now. >> coming in there, because I've had her knocking so many times. Listen to >> That was me knocking just now. That was me. That's the police department. What? No, it's not. WHAT HEY, WHAT KNOCK it off. Knock it off. This is your warning for disorderly conduct. You're trespassing. >> Disorderly [clears throat] conduct. >> No, you're you're trespassing. >> Disorderly conduct there, Jennifer. >> to call Mark. He's your Yeah, go ahead and call Mark. >> Go ahead and call Mark. Mark. All right, what's up, man? Hey, man. Uh you busy at the moment? Uh not particularly. What's up? All right. I've got Jennifer out here. She is like either methed out or something. She's also got like a 1-year-old in her hands, and she's like banging stuff. She's throwing stuff. She's upstairs, and I'm in the apartment complex here. Okay. And I'm trying to get her to calm down, but she's like banging stuff still, throwing stuff upstairs. I can't get in. Okay. All right. Give me Give me a second. Then I'll switch out there. Uh okay. Sorry, man. I can still see you, Jennifer. Hey, you know what? Don't Don't come in here. I'm not coming inside. You want to talk to Mark. I'm going to stay right here. You're high. Uh I'm high? You're with Mark. I'm high? Hey, Jennifer, this is your warning for disorderly conduct. You continue this behavior, you will be charged. You'll be charged. Hey, what's up? Hey, uh disregard. I mean, she's calmed down just a little fraction, but I've already I just warned her for disorderly conduct. If she comes back out here, she's going to jail. Okay. Do you think she's okay with the child? Personally, no. Another officer arrived, but the mother still wouldn't open the door, continuously yelling and showing [music] signs of losing control. I'm still here. I don't care who Mark is. Come right to the door. All right. I'm in your way. All right. Um we're still trying to make contact with her. She's still been yelling, throwing stuff. She's yelling for me like on top of it. She's calling me Mark and Yeah, she's she's calling us names that aren't us, and and she's hallucinating. We're still trying to make contact with her. >> Jennifer! But she's still in the house? Yes, with the 1-year-old. So, if you want to do some research and and is this is this your cell? I'll give you a call back once we kind of give you a get you a little more information. I thought we I thought we had She needs more information like we need to make contact with her. We're through the window, yeah. But we need to have her to physically come down and if not, like we're going to probably like if there's children in there and you know there's children in there, we have to protect them. We may have to force entry. Is there anybody else that you see in the house? What's her name, is it Jennifer? Jennifer Yeah, I saw what looked like a maybe a one or two year old. Yeah, there's there's a um They had a domestic in February where she was arrested. Okay, well she's about to get arrested again. Jennifer! Jennifer! Troy Police! Jennifer! This female is refusing to answer the door. There's a young child inside. Myself and 409 will be making entry. Fortunately, the back door was unlocked giving officers safer access. Inside, [music] the mother was closely holding the child creating a delicate situation that required careful handling. Troy Police, we're coming in! Jennifer! HELLO. WE ARE WE ARE THE COPS. COME HERE, NOW. JENNIFER! WOAH, DROP THE CHILD. HOLD ON. >> [screaming] >> STOP. PUT STOP. PUT THE CHILD DOWN. Put the child DOWN RIGHT NOW. >> [screaming] >> PUT THE CHILD DOWN. GET OFF HER. GO, LET GO OF THE CHILD. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. PUT YOUR HANDS OUT IN BACK. YOU HAVE THE BABY. TURN AROUND, PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. MY NAME IS NOT CALEB. STOP. THROUGH CALM, professional handling, officers were able to safely separate the child from the situation. I got everything recorded. >> [screaming] >> Give her the baby. Do not. I wasn't. Don't. Okay, I got it. It's my Okay, YOU GUYS BROKE IN. JESSICA, LET GO MEGAN. 409 FEMALE, 21. >> [screaming] >> Baby is safe. WHAT, CAN I GO DOWNSTAIRS AND SEE THE BABY? >> NO, NOT RIGHT NOW. MY NAME IS Sergeant Price, Tyler. You broke into my apartment. Right, cuz you had a child. >> No, SHE'S A GOOD MOM. Who she? Who? Jenny is Come on, you got her. Put her IN THE CAR. PLEASE GET THE BABY. WATCH YOUR HEAD. SHE DIDN'T KNOW YOU BROKE IN, YOU TRESPASSED. UM I DON'T KNOW WHAT AM I arrested? >> Oh, yeah. Why? Assault on a police officer and child endangerment. You all right? Yeah. Sorry, I had to get the baby out of there. I had like she had turned to bite me and I like popped her That's why I had to get the baby out of there. Dude, I was I didn't want to Yeah. any of them. I couldn't get her. As soon as I grabbed the baby, I just I had to get out of there. Yeah, no, for sure. You're fine. I had control over her and I had her so I turned her to cuff her, she turned to bite me. >> She flipped around and I I literally popped her head. Yeah, I didn't have choice. No, I got it. I had control over her but she like turned Dude, that was crazy. Officers then collaborated with neighbors to gather information and contacted the child's relatives for temporary care and support. And he cries like this all the time. We hear him screaming because he's typically like downstairs and she's like upstairs like slamming the doors or the windows. >> How long has this been going on tonight? 1:30 this afternoon. Okay. She did not have him. I think he was in there and she was out here. And my mom said when Did you see it was that You guys said you saw him speed walking She just leaves him. Okay. This uh children's services coming. All right, so we made entry to the house. What ended up happening was we had to wrestle wrestle the child away from Jennifer. She's in custody for resisting arrest and child At this point, we're trying to get a hold of mom for the child. Her grandma. Uh Jennifer's mom. So, I think at this point, you know, basically your involvement's going to be when we fax you the report. Let's roll with it. What's up? We'll take her to jail. Okay. Just right now go one assault one count assault on a police officer and one count child endangerment. And then we'll reconvene. Exactly. See if she has any Anything else on her. Okay. You doing okay? Yeah, but these are too tight. Okay, if you step out, I'll I'll loosen them up. Your wrists are really thin. I know, I might slip >> So, we can't we can't make them too loose, okay? I mean the baby was laying down. Okay, you doing all right? Better than that? Let me take a look at you real quick. Okay, have a seat. No. Not at all. All right, thank you. Jennifer, do you have any mental health diagnosis? >> No, I Bipolar or anything like that? >> No. Have you taken any drugs tonight? >> No, I haven't. I've been clean. I I'm on probation. My PO officer is I mean my PO officer is cold. Okay, all right. Thank you. Mhm. The mother was charged with child assault on a police officer, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest under New York law. These charges can carry a sentence of 6 to 15 years. The case highlights how mental health crises, single parent pressures, or substance challenges [music] can create serious risks for families. Although these incidents occurred in different locations, they reveal a painful reality. When adults struggle to maintain control, children are often the most affected. The law can address unsafe actions and authorities can intervene to protect children, but the emotional impact on a child takes time and care to heal.
