You were on the wrong side of the road, Kenny. I was not on the wrong side of the road. You were driving on the wrong side of the road, brother. Get out of the car. Wrong side of the road. Get out of the car. Shots fired. I'm hit. As an officer, even something as routine as tracking down a wanted criminal or conducting a traffic stop can turn into a deadly encounter. And sadly, not every officer makes it home alive. Sammy, no. lift this bed up. Go. Hi. Good. How are you? You were sleeping, so I needed to check on you, make sure that you are all right. Um, but I do need to identify who you are. No, no, no. Please don't shoot me. Please, please, please don't. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't show up when you did. These were the moments when cops got attacked by wanted criminals. We begin with the case where a female officer conducted a traffic stop on a wanted suspect but was suddenly attacked. Thankfully, her partner stepped in just in time and saved her life. In the early morning hours of July 23rd, 2018, a female officer spotted a sleeping man inside a vehicle and attempted to make contact with the man who initially provided a false name. He was later identified as Kenneth Martell. a fugitive with an active warrant for murder. Here's how the traffic stop unfolded. 511 is going to be occupied by one male. Hi. Good. How are you? What are you doing? Parts back here. Just cleaning up. Okay. Where are you coming from? How long have you been here? I've been not long to came from. Okay. Where are you headed? Uh out west. I start off the interstate. Okay. How did you find this place? What? By accident. Well, that's pretty that's pretty weird. Do you happen to have a driver's license on you that I could see? [Music] You don't have a driver's license? Not on you. Do you have anything with your name on it? What about your vehicle registration? Anything with your name on it? I do something wrong. No, no, but you're parked on private property right now. Um, it's suspicious that you're back here. This is doesn't normally happen. You were sleeping, so I needed to check on you, make sure that you are all right. Um, but I do need to identify who you are. You didn't do anything wrong. I just need to make sure that you're okay. James Duncan, but I don't I got changed. As you know, I've been on the road. Okay, not a big deal. I just have to make sure you know you don't have any warrants or anything, which I'm sure you don't. Once I confirm that, you'll be on your way. No big deal. Coming up, the officer ran the name James Duncan through the system, only to quickly realize the suspect had given her a fake identity. As her partner rushed to the scene to help regain control, the situation took a turn for the worse, escalating rapidly before he could even arrive. All right. So, you said your name was James, right? So, how come they can't find you out of Pennsylvania? They're not finding a deal, a driver's license record for James Duncan. Do you have anything in the vehicle with your name on it? 8511. I have the 284 out of Pennsylvania. [Music] All right. King Henry Lincoln 4596. King Henry Lincoln 4596. [Music] [Music] If you if you stop, I'll leave. I'll leave. Okay, I'll leave. No. Let go. Okay, side to the side. All right, I'm going through my door. 85 11 and 21. There's going to be information on that vehicle. Looks like it's connected to a homicide. No front plate in the front. Was he sleeping or? Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty sure he's drunk because he had that look on his face. Yeah. But he's got beer in the back. An open bottle right there. I just need it for right now. I have hand sanitizer in my car. You want it? I got some. The female officer had every reason to be grateful for her partner's timing, arriving just in time. I am never making a move without you again. Are you and your partner? We are 102 right now. Yes. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't show up when you did. Huh? I don't know what I would have done if you didn't show up when you did. You would have done the right thing. I couldn't get to my gun. I couldn't grab your weapon on No. So he was he had both of his hands on his gun and so I grabbed the barrel and I pushed it down and but I had to use both of my arms to get the strength that I needed to over power him. And then I went to go grab for my mic. I called she was trying to scream 1032 1032 but he grabbed my arm or my hand and my gun hand was holding his barrel down. Coming up, paramedics and additional officers arrived on the scene to take control of the situation and provide medical assistance. Is that what you want to know? Is he deceased or not? I mean, it's it's comforting. Wow. Well, what was he doing? He had the gun in my head. Are you okay? Are you okay? I'm good. I'm a little like but I'm okay. All right. Yeah. Yeah. So, all right. You like you guys have any more guys coming? We've got at least four more people coming. I wonder if I came through the radio. I I heard you.
