What did you just do? >> If you just put something in him, he's going to be taken away from you. Did you or did you not? >> No. >> She was hiding something. It was a bot full. >> Some parents convince themselves they can get away with cruelty. But what happens when the police show up and prove them wrong? >> First of all, do you know what the Florida state statute is for child? Because this absolutely meets the requirements for it. >> That's the difference. We're not here to play games with you. That was the dumb analogy I ever heard in my life. But these were the moments when horrible parents got caught red-handed. Starting off with the case of a mother who under the influence lost control of her emotions and ultimately took it out on her son. >> She's beating him with a freaking touchland. >> My son has autism and he likes to make a lot of dramatic things happen. >> How hard is she? >> If you had to guess like an estimate of 0 to 10, >> eight or nine. Okay. >> Too many. On September 10th, 2023, officers were called to a residence after reports surfaced of an intoxicated woman allegedly using bedroom furniture to discipline her 14-year-old son. >> Can you explain what happened to this officer when I sat here with her dad? >> I'm 14 years old. >> 14. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, tell me tell me what's going on. What what happened today? >> So, tonight my mother, you know, she's been drinking heavily. >> Where is your mother right now? >> She's currently inside the house either in the backyard or her bedroom. >> Okay. Um, so we we've dealt with her being blackout before. So I went in my room trying to avoid conflict and she come she comes in there and starts like drunk and rambling like saying nonsense. I'm like, "Mom, please leave my room. I don't want you in here right now." So she gets up my face and I put my arms up like this, you know, cuz I don't know if she's going to hit me or not. And she does. She goes and swings down her arm like this. And so I push her back with my foot. >> Where'd she hit you? >> Uh, she hit me like in the forearms. >> Okay. Not very hard, but just, you know, obviously. >> And so she goes and takes my lamp off my desk and starts hitting me with that jam me like kind of in the side, the right side. >> I don't know if there's any marks or not. So I get up and so she goes to swing again and the cord it goes and it hits me in the back. That's when my father comes in is able to restrain her before she's able to hit me anymore. And after that, she hit me with my school backpack after he left and took the lamp with him. >> She picked up my school backpack from the ground, which was like loaded with stuff, and went swung it on my head. And that's when she left my room, kind of shut myself in, and then my grandparents pulled up and we've called you guys, and here we are now. Okay. >> What the son revealed was deeply unsettling, leaving the officer with no doubt about the seriousness of the call. Moments later, the father shared his version of events. >> She goes, "And my son, I I hear a pro or my my son first comes out and he's like, "Man, mom's been drinking. Can you go deal with that?" I was like, "Man, she's pretty mad at me, man. I think I'm just going to stay out here." And then I hear a big commotion. I go in there and they're in a fight in his bedroom. He's just in his room trying to avoid it. He's been through it before. >> Sure. >> And I go in there and she's beating him with a freaking touch lamp and it's in the back of my truck. We took it from her. >> Okay. >> And I restrained her. I was like, "You don't put your hands on those kids anymore." >> Like, she beat him with a freaking cord. And like he's 15 years old with autism. >> Mhm. >> And my daughter's 7 years old, extremely autistic. >> Where's your daughter right now? >> She's at the neighbor's house, the neighborhood, everything coming. So, she's playing. She's out of the way. >> That's right. So, the only person in the house is your wife as >> Yep. And and a dog, Jackie. We have a American bulldog. He's like 10, 11, 12 years old. He's deaf. He's super friendly. Like, he will not hurt you. concerned about that. >> Well, I have a a gun safe in freaking our our garage. She has no access to it, you know. So, >> any other weapon she would have access to is like what? Kitchen knife. >> Yeah, just a kitchen knife or something like that. >> Did she hit you at all during this entire situation? Was there any battery against you? >> No. >> No. >> The only per What about your daughter? >> Nope. >> But she was just saying >> he's the only one that's >> Yeah, that's been physically hit. Okay. >> Yeah. Up to this point, the officers had only heard the story from the son and the father, both pointing to an intoxicated mother who lashed out at her kids. But soon, the officers would hear directly from the mother herself for the first time. >> I am just trying to figure out what the is going on because I've been in contact with my >> Well, clearly we're here for a reason. So, stop with the attitude. >> You understand me? We're not going to play this game where you yell over me every time I'm trying to talk to you. It's not happening. Okay? I need to talk to you about what's going on today. You need to kill it with the attitude. >> I didn't. >> I'm trying to get your name. You don't need to be disrespectful. >> I was telling you my name. I have two middle names. I >> Well, you're being disrespectful while you do it and you're talking over me again. It's absolutely unacceptable. We're here to try to figure out what's going on. >> I haven't done anything. >> Well, you won't even give us a chance to ask you. >> I just told you my name. >> Stop talking over me. >> I didn't. >> We're not playing this game, >> dude. I'm not playing a game. I've been taking care of my kids. I have been over at my grandma's house helping over there. I haven't done anything. I have been on the phone with my with my family >> just for one second. Lower the lower the volume. Okay, we're standing right here. >> I'm deaf in one of my ears. I'm sorry I'm loud. >> Are you done? >> Where do you work? >> You guys just stay at home mother. >> What do you think her intent was in swinging that? How hard was she swinging it? >> You've seen how hard. >> Pretty hard, man. >> Out out of your If you had to guess like an estimate of zero to 10, 10 being all of her might, zero being nothing. What do you think? >> Eight or nine? >> Okay. >> 10 if she was sober. >> Okay. >> Man, we we've dealt with this and we dealt with it and like nothing's changing it. Like she was good for a long time. We haven't had a problem like >> Yeah. >> for a while. But when she stops taking medication, she drinks, you know. Well, I feel she was mad at me, but like yell at me. Don't hit me with a lamp for sure. >> Don't hit my kids. >> Yep. I get it. >> You know, I can take it. They can't. They can't, man. They can't. >> By this point, it seemed certain the woman would be spending the night in jail. But when officers spoke with her again, it became clear she had no real grasp of the seriousness of what had just unfolded. >> I don't know what the hell happened, and I'm tired of it. I just touch >> You need to calm down while you're going. That's bottom line. >> Has she been mirandized? No, not yet. Okay. >> Oh my god. >> I'm just trying to figure out what's going on before I go. >> I'm trying to figure out what's going on, too. I don't understand. >> Hey, so right now we're performing an investigation. Okay. You're detained. You're not free to leave. I have some questions for you. Okay. Okay. >> I'm going to read you your rights so that way you're fully apprised of them going forward. Okay. >> You understand these rights? >> I just need a verbal yes or no. >> Do anything. >> Okay. We we'll talk about that. And I just need to know that you understand those rights. Do you need me to reexlain any of them? Do you understand what I told you? >> No. >> Okay. You don't understand them. >> No, I understand you. I don't need you to explain it again. >> Okay. You understand the rights as I read them to you. >> I just wanted to go to bed. I've been >> Okay. Well, here here's the deal. I'm going to take your your desire to not have me reexplain those is that you understand >> floors all weekend. >> Miss Shannon, what happened tonight? >> I don't know. I've been cleaning my house and making the dinner. I've been on the phone with my grandparents. >> What happened tonight? This is your opportunity to give me your side of the story cuz I haven't heard it from you yet. >> I'm just telling you. I've cleaned my house. I made fried chicken and mashed potatoes and green beans. I've been on the phone with my best friend and my sister-in-law and talking about having an high tea. I've been on the phone with my mother-in-law. I've been on the phone with my brother. He came home after a week away. >> It quickly became clear the woman had a habit of casting herself as the victim, even going so far as to blame her meltdown on her husband. But as time went on, it was obvious the officers weren't buying it. >> Hold your hands out for me. Flip them over. There there there's obviously more that happened tonight and I I want to get your side of it. So you seem very upset with Connor. What's the difference? >> I am not upset with Connor. >> Well, I've heard a lot of a lot of swearing in that direction and >> I am a sailor anyway. >> Okay, >> that's my son. I have not touched Connor. I don't know what the is going on. I don't know what is happening. >> What happened? What happened tonight in his room? >> I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I've been on the phone with my friends all night. I cook dinner and I've been on the phones on the phone. >> Why would someone tell us otherwise? >> Because my son has autism and he likes to make a lot of dramatic things happen and he likes to have one person on on his side at a time. >> Okay. >> And my husband just got home and that's the one that he would probably prefer on his side because he's the one >> Tell me about that lamp that's in the back of that truck. What's the story with that? I don't know. >> How did it get damaged? >> I don't know. I didn't touch my son. >> Okay. Well, how did he get a big welt on his back? >> I don't know. >> I'll be perfectly frank. There's multiple people. >> I don't know. How did I get the scar on my face? How did I get curb stomped? How did I get anything wrong with me? Why don't you ask that man over there? He likes to hurt hurt our family and do a lot of So, I'm the one in the wrong, I guess. Let let's let's talk about what happened tonight. Again, I want to give you an opportunity to tell me what occurred. >> I didn't do anything tonight. This is insane. >> Okay. Well, there's evidence. >> There's multiple pieces of evidence that say otherwise. >> I didn't. >> And I want to give you the opportunity to tell me your side of the story cuz right now >> I'm telling you I was didn't do anything. Right now, I don't believe that based off of your level of agitation, your emotion right now tells me that >> this is something that happens all the time. I didn't >> So, you hit your son all the time. >> Oh my god. >> Okay, you're not going to do not pull away. >> I didn't do anything. >> Yeah, if you would. Thank you. I didn't touch my son. I didn't touch him. >> Okay, we'll we'll discuss this a little bit more. Okay. >> What are you talking about? I didn't do anything. >> I haven't even touched him. I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything. You >> need to relax. Breathe. >> I didn't touch it. >> No, please. I didn't even do anything. What is happening? I have to take my kids to school tomorrow. Please. I didn't do anything. I didn't touch my son. I didn't touch my son. I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything. >> Take a seat inside the car. >> Take a seat for >> I didn't do anything. >> I just cooked dinner. She's going to take the sun inside, but I think mom thinks she can calm her down. >> Okay. >> I just cooked dinner. >> What is happening? What is happening? >> I need you to breathe. >> I didn't do anything. >> So, what's going to happen? >> Oh my god. I didn't do anything. >> So, you need to calm down, >> Mom. I didn't touch him. >> Hey. Hey. I've been on the phone with you. Why is this happening? >> You need to calm down. >> Why the >> I need you to calm down right now. >> I can't. >> I can't. Why is this >> Jackie? If you don't calm down, I'm not going to be They're not going to let me talk to you. So, you need to calm or they're going to close this up and I can't talk to you. Okay. >> I can't. >> Okay. So, I need I know. No one do anything. >> You need to just calm down. >> Hey, you need to break. >> I need you to calm down. >> Coming up, as the woman was transported to jail, she launched into her entire life story with her husband. Once again, painting herself as the eternal victim, convinced the world was against her. >> Sure, you don't want to go back to my house. I got some fried chicken and mashed potatoes sitting on the stove. wasn't able to eat it myself, but you can go eat it. >> I appreciate the offer. >> Piece of that was supposed to be there, you know, 4 hours ago. Didn't show up. I don't even want to get it. How is it the person that's gets beat up the most is the one that's going to serve any sentence? How is that fair? How is that fair? There's one person with injuries that I saw tonight. >> I didn't touch my kid. What about the injuries that I've had for the last 16 years? >> To be perfectly frank, I don't see any injuries on you right now. And I I can't I I don't know what happened when you don't tell us. >> You've been to my house for the last 5 years. >> I haven't. It's the first time I've met you. You know, I can just see him sitting back watching all the nasty TV he wants to watch because I'm not there. >> He tried to convince me not to take you to jail. >> Are you kidding me? >> Nope. >> Oh, he's the one that had this all set forth and going. He just got home today. He got home and I was on the phone with my mother the whole time. I was trying to ignore him. And because I was ignoring him, I knew this was going to happen. I was just trying to avoid a I can't. 18 years of my life. This man and he's 7 years older than me. He got together with me when I was 16 years old. Promising me the world. Yeah. Let's start a business together where I have to borrow money from my grandparents every month to pay our employees. Beat the out of me. So I have no friends. I don't even speak to any of my friends anymore. Me and my grandma, she just took me to Ireland and Scotland in London this last couple months. We went for 2 weeks and I had planned this. It was a year planned. my grandma's bucket list because my grandpa doesn't want to travel anywhere with with her. So, she paid my whole trip. I was so excited to go. And the whole time I went, all I got was that I'm a cheating and I'm sleeping with anybody that will talk to me while I was down there because he couldn't afford to go with us. I was so tired of everything that he said to me. After what felt like an endless ride filled with the suspect's non-stop incoherent rambling, the officers finally arrived at the jail. Go ahead and step out. >> My hands are like really >> We're going to get you out. Just stand in front of the car for me. >> Are they going to help me in my nose? >> Yeah, I'm going to help you. Just be nice to them. Don't talk to them like you've been talking to me and my partner. Be be cooperative and be chill. >> I haven't been trying to talk to you anyway. I'm sorry if I have. I I understand your I understand your my This is just me telling you they they don't they don't put up with anything. They'll just put you in a holder if if you talk to them the way you've been talking to me. This is just a heads up, okay? Just be just be calm with them and they'll help you out through the whole process. >> I'm 33 years old. >> I know >> I have a 14-year-old son and I'm very confused about what's happening right now. >> Okay. I've tried tried to explain it to you multiple times. Okay. >> Yes, sir. My husband just came home for the first time today. >> I know, but the the the problem here is is you beat your son with a lamp. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. Well, all the evidence tells otherwise. And I appreciate that you're telling me that you didn't. >> I did not touch my son with a lamp. Well, >> I'm telling you, I did not do that. I am not that crazy kind of person. I'm not like that. Are you kidding me? My whole life is my kids. That's all I have. That's Oh my god. I have to take my kids to school in the morning. Like that's all I care about. He said this. I have not touched him. He got my grandparents involved. Who was I was also on the phone with today. I was just talking to him. That's who I went down with. >> What do you What do you think Connor told you? Connor likes whoever's going to let him play his game. Period. Why don't you ask Connor who beat the out of me and him both together? Beat the out of us curbing us as I was trying to protect it. Why don't you ask Connor that? Why don't you ask Connor who he has to protect most of the time when we're hiding from him in Shayla's room? Why don't you ask Connor who we're hiding from most of the time? >> I can't. I didn't do anything. >> Oh my god. >> The woman was charged with domestic battery. Moving on to yet another case showing the consequences of an intoxicated mother's outbursts. >> He was laying on the bed and him out and she just hopped on me and started like >> son has been beating me. >> That's not That's not how it is. >> Oh yeah. Okay. >> Why do you why does he have injuries on him and you you don't have anything on? >> On April 3rd, 2024, officers were called to a residence after reports surfaced of an intoxicated mother allegedly handling her 2-year-old son roughly and getting into a physical altercation with her children. >> Anybody? >> No. >> No. >> Or him. Sorry. Him. Is he okay? Was he too? >> No. >> He got it. Just you two. >> She was laying on the bed and choking him out. And that's >> Yeah. And that's why I I I was like I came in there and I saw him and I was like, "You need to get off of him." And we tried to grab him from her and she just hopped on me and started like be and then whenever I was trying to shut the door, she grabbed her and slam her. >> Do you have any marks on you? >> Okay, we'll figure that out. Okay. >> And this is your mom. Has she been drinking tonight? >> She has. Has Okay. >> Has she been doing anything else? >> I don't know. I mean, that does she normally do anything else? >> She had a history with pills. Okay. >> Got a cut on your face, too. Same last name, guys. >> Oh, different. Bailey. >> Okay. And then what's your date of birth? >> How old are you? >> 10. >> 10. You said you know your dad's >> Do you know uh his phone number? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, we'll get >> Do you want to do a call? >> Do you want to wait or >> go ahead and get the dad on the phone? >> Yeah, I mean you can go ahead and kind of get my head up on what's going on. >> From the moment officers spoke with the children, the seriousness of the situation became impossible to ignore. Coming up, some of the officers reached out to the children's father. >> Getting more info. Um we're going to see if dad can come down and take the kids. I'm currently here, I guess, with your uh son and uh two sons and a daughter. Okay. Um so there was like a domestic incident that happened. Is this your wife or ex-wife or Okay. The reason I'm calling you, of course, to update you about, you know, your kids. Um is it possible? I know you live in Georgia, but um to come down at some point if she does end up going to jail. Um I said we're trying to get more info as we can, but I guess she's been drinking a little bit too. Does she have any other like a history of like or anything like that? Okay. Do you know if she's taken it like what does she normally do? Okay. She probably took some Okay. Um cuz we see some you know alcohol in the in the room. So um we didn't see any pills but she seems a little of course disoriented and whatnot too. And what is her story? Have we talked yet? >> I got photos of all his injuries on the arms. The older son had more just some lacerations from a fingernail. look like fingernail on there. Obviously, the shirt's all tore up. Got that. Took some pictures of her. She's a couple little red marks. I tried to look at her hair where they said she was back. Super thick. I'm going to let fire while they're looking at her head. Maybe you might be able to get a better photo. She's got a very thick head of hair. Um the little boy I see on. >> After piecing together what had happened, the female officer finally sat down to speak with the unfit mother. >> All right, man. Just do me a favor. Go ahead and put your hands on your back. Okay. >> All right. Who's going to get my babies? >> Do what? >> Who's going to get my baby? >> Uh, I believe your is your baby daddy >> here. Put your uh hands like this. >> All right. Want to bring you to the car downstairs. Oh, do you have some shoes you can put on? >> Can you grab some shoes? >> I don't want to sit like this. >> No. No. No. No. No. >> No. They're not going to see you. Calm down. She's He's grabbing you some shoes. >> No. Make him. I can't see you like this. >> No. >> No. Because you wouldn't come over and listen to us, man. down. And now you >> Okay. Well, now you're going with no shoes. Let's go. >> I was trying to be nice and get you some shoes. >> My son has been mean. >> That's not That's not how it is. >> Oh, yeah. Okay. >> Why do you Why does he have injuries on him and you don't have anything on you? >> Aiden, the kid. >> Yeah, he has injuries all over him. >> No, he doesn't. >> Yes, he does. I'm not going to argue with you. Uh where you at? Just show me where your card's at. >> My god, I have not touched that baby. That is not >> So, you're saying that nothing happened? >> No, he he got mad. I would let him have his baby. >> That's why. >> Yes. Oh my god. I want to hold my baby. >> Okay. >> I got two babies here. I'm the only mama here. Oh my god. The baby. >> No. >> That's what I'm Okay. And you He has injuries all over him. >> No, he doesn't. No, he does not. >> He does. He has marks me. You >> So my baby. >> Okay. Well, the story is not really it. >> No, I would not. It's my baby. Do you have anything on you? It's going to poke me sticky face. >> I got nothing. No. Please let me know what I do with my baby. >> Just the car. >> No. No. My baby. I need to know what's going to happen with my baby. And a real Addie. She's 10. He's 13. The baby's too. I cannot leave through here like that. No. I'm scared. I'm so scared. Go. I get I have anything. Do you have anything on your skin? >> Do you have anything in your bra? Are you wearing a bra? >> Yeah. >> All right. This money is going to go with you. Okay. I don't care about my baby scar. >> Okay. No, I don't have nothing on me. I told you about >> Well, if you have anything on, you're going to get a three felonies going on for you. So, sit in the car. >> No, I don't. >> Uh, yes, you do. Sit in the car. >> Once the mother was secured in the cruiser, the officers turned their attention to deciding what should happen with the children. >> I'm going to the car. I got to pull up DCF on call person all three. >> Oh wow. >> So J's going to go with him. I follow him >> and >> DCF is >> No. >> Oh, EMS is transporting all three. >> EMS is transporting all three. >> So she's going to go sit at the hospital with them. >> I think so. >> Um >> I mean we can relieve her once we get everything. You know what I mean? >> Oh, if you get a chance um can you try to get some photos of her hands? um she'll allow you to do that if you need something because if she's saying that nothing happened, she probably shouldn't have like she shouldn't have any issues with us taking photos. >> While the mother was being transported to jail, some of the officers returned inside to speak with the children once more. >> And then once I got her off of me, she grabbed Addie and threw her on the ground and came back after me. Then I got Addie to put Elijah on my bed and like held her out. >> She get >> Yeah. And this is like the last thing I want to talk about. Um, can we go over the story one more time just so we got it everything straight? >> Yeah. I mean, do you want me to get into like all the way detail? >> I mean, as much as you can give or remember will help. >> So, I was just laying here >> like in this bed. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then I heard Elijah scream and then I heard Addie scream, >> which is her name. >> And then I was like, what's going on? And then I walked in there and I heard my mom's. She was like, "Get back. Get back." And then I ran around the bed >> and like got on her side cuz her side was the other side. Then I pulled her like I grabbed her back, >> got Elijah, separated them, pulled her like got her on the ground and then I told I got up, told Addie to go put him in here, which she did. And then she started chasing after her. So I like jumped in front of her and she just started like bing me and scratching me. And then she like threw me against that patio door. >> Mhm. >> And then whenever I finally got her like out of it, she like laid over there in that corner and I I we were Were you all in the bathroom? No, I was over hell and she came over me and Elijah punched me right right here. >> She punched you right here and then she grabbed me by my sm to the ground >> and then after that she started like running like just sprinting back and forth here just looking for stuff. I don't I can't tell you what she was looking for. if she was looking for a weapon or >> some I don't know if she she told me she was looking for a license, but >> I I mean I don't know why I should be looking for a license or not. And then I called police. >> Mhm. >> And then I was like holding the door back, this door right here. >> Mhm. So she wouldn't be able to get here and she's like gnawing at the door like scratching at all. >> Y'all were here and she was trying to get like you shut the door trying >> I was in the bathroom. >> Yeah. Then they got in the bathroom door >> and then I'm sitting here trying to like hold hold the door back so she can't get to me. >> Okay. Um I know at one point you mentioned that um she put hands on a little one like chicken. Is that the reason that >> Yeah, that's the first one. >> Okay. That's the reason. I mean, you heard both of them scream and that's the reason why you went in there. They're all three getting transported. >> All right. >> They're just like a domestic incident. >> Dad's already contacted. He's coming from Georgia. We're contacting DC. >> We're working on that. >> Okay. >> The woman was charged with two counts of domestic violence, two counts of endangerment, aggravated endangerment, and several additional related charges. Moving on to the case of these unfit parents who thought they could use their children to conceal illegal contraband only to have police uncover the truth almost instantly. >> She was hiding something. It was a bot fool. Nope. We're not playing that. Stand up. >> Stand up, >> ma'am. Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Check his back and his waistband. >> If you just put something in him, he's going to be taken away from you. Did you or did you not? >> No. On June 6th, 2023, officers initiated a routine traffic stop on a vehicle. Inside was a mother and father with their children, but the encounter quickly spiraled when the woman attempted to use her kids to conceal illegal contraband hidden in the car. >> How's it going? >> Hey. >> Hey, Mr. Smith. This is Steven. >> Who? >> Steven. >> Okay. >> Talked a couple times. >> Okay. Uh you don't have a tag on your uh trailer, >> but there is a tag. >> There is one for you >> if you put in Jerry William Howard the second. Okay. Well, see, I'm not I don't have a crystal ball. And if there's no tag on them, I can't make heads or tails of it. >> Yes, sir. >> So, there's not a tag on the vehicle on the trailer at all. >> You got your license on you? >> No, sir, I don't. >> Cuz I hurt my hand. >> You hurt your hand? >> Uhhuh. >> You ain't. You're able to eat though? >> Yeah, but I can't. Like this? But >> you got your driver's license? >> You don't have a driver's license? >> All right. Step out for us. From the very first moment officers approached the family, something felt off, like an encounter that would only unravel darker layers the longer it went on. And before long, their instincts proved dead on. >> Can you roll this window down? Just step back here for me. So, whose vehicle is this house? >> Uh, where you guys coming from? >> Uh, we were coming from Walmart. She had to meet her mama there to get some money and we stopped in here to get some ice and some water for the cool house. >> The vehicle belongs to her. >> Trailer belongs to her and her dad, but the registration's under. Okay. Is there anything illegal in the vehicle? Any illegal mar? Anything like that? >> Just the kids. >> There's kids in there? >> Yes, sir. >> I didn't see any kids. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Do y'all have a show? >> They're just documenting us what we do. That's all. And you got that many suspensions. >> What's your name? Uh, pulled me over like a month and a half ago and he said I didn't have no habitual or nothing on it. >> No, I didn't say you had habitual that many suspensions. You don't you don't have a license at all. >> You can't drive, dude. I know >> you're going to go to jail. >> I know. >> You know, and because of all the past arrests you've had. >> Yes, sir. >> How many times you been arrested for driving? >> For driving? >> Yeah. Once. >> Just once? Yes, >> sir. >> All right. This will be number like forever ago. >> Okay. Well, if if you got arrested today, it' be number two. Your third one's a felony. >> It's still a felony. >> Yeah. >> Stop doing that. >> No. No. Cuz you got a DUI. >> Yeah. >> You got a Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 27. I'm glad I did have to do. >> Yeah, >> but I wasn't arrested for that. >> But your girl's got a valid license. >> I know. She hurt her hand and I was stupid for driving for >> She's going to have to drive. Just Just hold tight a minute. Okay. >> She's got a valid license. And of course he doesn't. He's not habitual or anything. He's got one prior for uh for driving. But uh there's no reason why she can't drive. There was something when I walked up there and she reached underneath the seat or something. 99 is on his way. >> Okay. How many how many youngies is in the car? >> Okay. Y'all would step out. >> But yeah. Hey, your shoes. Can you shoot? >> Am I able to get the ball? >> When we get done, you step over here, buddy. Hey, she's sitting on a pipe. >> With the discovery of a pipe, the situation suddenly shifted into far more serious territory. Made all the more concerning by the fact that the couple's children were right there with them. >> You got a medical card? >> Um, >> yes or no? >> Not dead. >> Yeah. Okay. >> I mean, there's not that. >> I I ain't worried about I'm going to see if they'll come up here for a minute. Yeah, I do. >> Okay, you're good. You don't have anything on your broad, anything like that? >> Hey, I know y'all don't have guns or anything. Y'all able to kind of stand there and just watch? >> Absolutely. Absolutely. >> So, we can speed this up. Just tape your good. >> Oh, no. That's the balloon. >> Okay. That's the one he's blowing up. >> Ain't nothing in the vehicle that's going to get you in trouble today. I guess he has that in there. Feel a bit. She was hiding something. It was a box full. You ever need a spare tooth? That's gross. Residue in that straw. >> I don't know, but it's worth checking for sure. >> She was hiding that what she was doing. I walked. She I scared her. She didn't see me standing where I was at. I asked her if she had anything on her and she kind of looked away. So, >> you want to walk back here real quick? >> Yep. Bring your popcorn. >> We're just going to go in front of this gold car. Um, I'm super easy going. Okay. I know. >> As long as you're honest with me, I can work with you. If you lie to me, there ain't nothing I can do for you. Okay. So, with that being said, there is a female coming out here. Do you have anything on you that's going to get you in trouble? >> No. >> You don't have anything in your bra? Nothing in your pants? >> No. >> Okay. Cuz she's going to come out here and check. >> Okay. >> So, I just didn't want you to lie and >> to charge. Okay. >> All right. I'm going hang out back up here. >> Yeah. >> Little girl wants to go to bed. That's fine. >> If mama wants to let them go in there by themselves. If they can go in there by themselves. No, we can't let you. >> Okay, we'll just hang. >> I can't let you go in there right now. >> I'd buy you grab this stuff, but I'm going to go test that stroll. >> 512. >> I know who you are. >> You ain't made good choices, have you? I'm working on my life. >> No, you're not. >> No, you're not. >> If you if you got drug and it was a narcotics and you be not working on your life, except making it worse. So, don't don't kid yourself. The woman tried to play the victim, insisting she was turning her life around, but the officers weren't buying it. By now, they'd seen enough to know she had a habit of twisting the truth. And coming up, one officer revealed a shocking detail about her past. We're not trying to be mean or disrespectful, but we wouldn't be in this situation. We wouldn't be in this situation if you were driving. If you had a tag on a vehicle and you didn't have >> year, >> huh? >> I just for a year and no one's [ __ ] with me about and I gave you the name, show it was >> that name went in this deer, not out this one cuz cuz I was dealing with other things. >> Okay. >> Don't mind positive. Jason, you mind? I think she's got it on her. Yeah, she uh she has actually spent the night in my house. She was high school friends in my daughter and she looks 1 million times different now than what she did then. And she's telling me, she said, "Mr. Smith, you know who?" I said, "I know exactly who you are." I said, "You're not making good choices, are you?" "I'm trying." I said, "No, you're not. You got illegal narcotics in the vehicle, will you?" That's not making good choices with your kids. >> When I told her that there was a female coming that she wanted to start, oh, I got to go to the bathroom. I need to take the blah blah blah. >> Yeah. So, she she wanted to leave and go to the bathroom. When I asked her if she had anything on her, she kind of not looking right. She reaching her pocket right here. Or she's reaching in his pocket. She's reaching in her waistband. >> What did you just do? Nope. We're not playing that. Stand up. >> Stand up, >> ma'am. Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Check his back and his waistband. >> If you just put something in him, he's going to be taken away from you. Did you or did you not? >> No. >> You didn't put anything in his pants. >> This coin purse. >> Honey, I got to get this out. Okay. >> Are you kidding me? >> Really? >> Are you me? Do not reach up. >> Turn around. >> Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. >> I didn't ask you. I told you to put your hands behind your back. Phillip, take her over there, please. You just put that in his pants. >> I'm sorry. It's >> okay, baby. Relax. It's okay. >> Okay. Hey, listen. Stop. Stop. Stop. Hey, listen. Do you have anything else on you? >> No. >> Okay. Listen. Face the car. Okay. >> I got to search you. Nothing that's going to poke or stick me. Right. >> At this point, the reality of their actions seemed to hit hard. Both parents were headed to jail. And with the circumstances at hand, it was only a matter of time before DCFS stepped in. >> Hey, sweet. Hey, sit right here for me. Hey, what's your name? Hey, just calm down, baby. This ain't your fault. I'm talking to her. Calm down for me. Okay. No, I'm going to stop talking. The whole coercion of telling her what to say was right there just a second ago. I said, >> you can't come out of your mouth. No, you said if they happen to ask >> and then you told her what to say. That's swear to God. >> No. No. No. And you want to know why there's a test kit on the hood? Because the scroll that was in your seat tested positive formings. That's why. >> So you're probably going to jail, too. I mean, if they're stuffing kids stuff down kids pants. No, the girl >> just sitting there for >> Yeah. I cannot believe she was watching me. As soon as you pulled up, she I watched her put it in the back of his pants. >> What the pants or >> She pulled it out of her pants and put it in his pants. I hate when people involve like that, man. I hate I hate I got an attitude with you, but that really pisses me off when you start diving off into kids with stuff like that. That's that's ridiculous. >> I told her no. I'm sorry, sir. >> Well, she's Why you going to get her out of jail? >> Because I she know you know I got you. >> Yeah. And you see what she's >> Can I call her to come and get us? >> You can call her. Here, >> can I call her to come and get us? >> Absolutely. >> I watched her as soon as Jesse pulled up. I watched like she wanted to give her back. She took it out of her pants and put it in his pants. >> I charged her with child endangerment to you. >> Well, I don't have gloves on. You want to test this real quick? >> I could not believe. Dude, I got goosebumps that pissed me off so bad. >> Towards it. Is it in here? >> Yeah, it's was in the front of her pants and she took it out. I walked over there and she catched up under a blue bag of >> Yeah, I seen it. Get a little darker than that. He's going to move this. >> Yes. For what? For the possession of that. >> I didn't have that. I didn't know that was there. I was just >> Have a seat. >> I was honest. >> Can the kids have my money, please? >> We'll talk about that in a minute. Just Just have a seat for it. >> What was on the stairs first? >> Uh big old thing. Probably the darkest test kit I've ever seen. >> Officer Smith, I do not >> That's a positive test. >> Well, sir, I do not. >> Okay. Well, it was in that little >> That was a little heart in the little box. >> Yes. >> And that's what that's what good. >> Yeah. >> Hey, that's her. >> All right. Have a seat. >> Give him a seat. >> Yes. >> Even if she says it's hers. >> Yes. Have a seat. >> Mean. The man was charged with possession while the woman faced charges of both possession and endangerment. Moving on to the case of a mother whose actions raised serious questions about her ability to care for her child, forcing police to step in. >> You can get out. We can walk around. That's fine. >> No, I don't. I just want to go home. Like, >> hi buddy. How are you? >> Face planting. >> Hi, buddy. >> Face planting on the cement. I don't need a camera. On July 12th, 2023, officers in Harvard, Illinois were dispatched to a troubling call involving a family. What they uncovered at the scene would raise serious concerns about the mother's parenting. >> Hello, Caitlyn. >> Yeah. >> Hi. Is your kid with you? Okay. So, we had a call that the kid was crying and some whoever called it in thought you might be having some trouble with the kid or >> disciplining it or something. >> No. Okay. Well, somebody else said that they saw you drop him in the parking lot. >> Okay. I didn't. He I sat him down to put him in the car seat. >> Okay. Can I check on him real quick over there? >> No. >> Well, I have to. >> Why? because I want to make sure he's not injured. >> He's not. He's fine. >> I have to check. >> I just put him down and he like fell. >> Okay. Well, I'm just going to check and make sure he's not injured. Okay. >> It's not a question. I have to do it. I have to make sure the child isn't injured. We have cred credible information. >> It's not credible information. Nobody saw I was putting the baby in the car seat. >> Okay. But two people were telling us that they witnessed you drop the child. They didn't say it was on purpose. It's not a I put him down in the parking lot. >> Okay. >> He's been crying a lot lately. >> And I just I'm just going to check on him and make sure he doesn't have any injuries. Okay. >> Well, I mean, his lips got a little am I >> That's okay. And we're just going to make sure he's okay. >> He is okay. >> All right. Fine. >> Well, I'm going to I just We need to check on him. Okay. >> Okay then. Look, >> you can get out. We can walk around. That's fine. >> No, I don't. I just want to go home. Like, you know. >> Well, why did you leave when you saw us? I see you. >> Because I'm scared. But I'm always scared of you guys because the last time the police were involved in my life, it's been bad since then, you know. >> The woman's strange demeanor immediately put the officer on edge, making him suspect the troubling reports might be true. Coming up, she agreed to prove her son was okay. >> He got like a little hurt. I sat him down, but he's okay. >> Hey, bud. >> Hey, say hi. Like he got a little hurt when he fell, but he's okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> Well, we just need to have rescue check. >> No, rescue doesn't need to come. No. >> No. Because you're saying like you should No, because you said that you just came to look at me because let go of me. Let go of me. Let go of me. Let go of me. I didn't do anything. Let go of me. >> Get your hands behind your back. Get your hands >> Let go of me. >> Get your hands behind your back. me >> because you were pushing me. >> Because you're in the way of my car. >> Getting five. >> Please. Why did you just do that to me? Third. >> What am I under arrest for? >> You're pushing me for one thing. >> What am I under arrest for? >> Me right now. >> What am I under arrest for? >> That's aggravated battery police offic. What's your location? What are you doing? >> We're in front of >> Third Street. >> For what? >> Pushing me >> because you're in the way of my car and my kid and my >> Your kid's injured and I was checking on him. You can't push me out of the way. >> Have my glasses. >> Yeah, we'll get them. >> By assaulting an officer, the woman had already sealed her fate for the night. But when the officer finally checked on the child, it became clear that aggravated battery wasn't the only charge she'd be facing. >> Hi, buddy. How are you? >> Hi. >> You okay? >> You want a toy? H, >> I can get you a toy. >> Face plant. >> Hi, buddy. Face planting on the cement. >> I'm gonna get a camera. >> Yeah. Okay, Caitlyn, we're going to have rescue come out. Check out your kid. Okay. Take him to the hospital. Make sure he's okay. We're going to transport you to the police department. You can't push me out of the way like that. >> I'm sorry. I'm very protective of Andrew. The last time the police came, they took him away. The dad didn't. They're like, I'm so protective. Um, I >> Well, look where we're at. >> I'm like at this point in my life where this has been going on and like there's nothing I can do. >> Well, you Well, what one thing you shouldn't do ever is push a police officer when we're trying to check on the well-being of your child. That's that's a good thing that we're doing. Okay. When you're pushing me out of the way, that means >> that [ __ ] hurts. >> Sometimes I got to do that. I can't let you get on back into the car without checking the, you know, the medical status of your kid who's got injuries. You can't be putting me out of the way when I'm doing that. >> That's not right in any sense. >> But it's not right to get in someone and tell them that you're taking their >> I didn't even say that to you, did I? >> So, we got a report that um >> Hold on. >> Nikki's going to be >> Okay. >> the paramedic in >> We've had mom. The mom was carrying like a football and was angry and upset threw him on the ground his face. >> As EMS cared for the child, the woman was taken to jail, giving the officer a chance to dig deeper into what had really unfolded prior to the call. >> All right, come on out and walk around the front of my car over to that door over there. Okay. right over there. Since we you are in custody and we did arrest you, I'm going to read you your your Miranda rights. Okay. So, before you asked any questions, it's my duty to advise you of your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that right? Okay. Anything you say can be used against you in court or other proceedings. Do you understand that? Yes. Okay. You have the right to talk with a lawyer for advice before you're asked any questions concerning this matter and to have your lawyer with you before, during, or after questioning. You understand that? Okay. And if you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed free of cost to you by a judge before you are asked questions if you wish. You understand that? Okay. So, we got a call that and the concern was with your child. Um, they weren't sure what exactly was going on, but they knew your child was crying. I don't know how they knew that or who actually even who Okay. I don't know who called. Okay. Um, honestly, I they wanted to meet Okay. Um, they thought for some reason that you may have been hitting the child. Um, so that's the call we got and that's why we we showed up there. >> 11. >> So, do you want to tell me what was going on with you and the in your child today? >> Nothing. >> Fine. >> So, what made you come back right away? >> Just I wanted to get home. >> I feel safe at home. >> Okay. But did you did you make it to the gas station? >> Yeah, we got gas. >> Did you go to Walmart after that? >> I went, but then like I decided I don't want to go inside. >> Okay. Cuz like I more just want to make sure and put like ice on his lip cuz I saw it hurt his lip. So I just want to get home cuz his lip was hurt. returning to why did you why did you leave from there when you I'm assuming >> because I saw them upstairs and I saw the neighbor who was always like Gerberg and talking to us and his wife and I saw them like staring down at me as I came in because like he always says he has like the eagle tower and he watches everything. So I already know like that you know like cuz we were right outside their door when he fell. So then I'm like oh my god they called the cops. I see the cops out front. I say see them up in their balcony and I'm just like, "Oh my god." Like, I need to just not like go because they probably think, you know, they called the cops on me. >> Okay. >> Right. So, you're going to leave. Like, >> did you think you did something wrong? >> No, I didn't think that I on purpose. However, like I don't know what they think and they, you know, like I can't just say and make people feel the way I feel. They're going to feel how they feel. When they see a baby hurt, they don't care. Like, >> but when I say he I was setting him down and he fell over, that's the words that people don't hear, you know? >> Right. Okay. So, um so that explains the lip, you know, the obviously the little boy on the lips, right? Um, what about the other bruising that was he had some bruising on his back and uh looked like on his butt and a couple other couple other places? Do you have any idea how he's getting bruises all over him like that? >> No. So, you never notice that he had some bruises on his back and his butt >> here or there and stuff, but >> I mean I have kids I got a couple kids too, so I mean I've gone through all that, right? Um, but you you never noticed the bruises on his butt and his lower back. And when's the last time you changed his diaper? >> This morning. >> And you didn't notice that? >> Just changed. >> Why do you think you wouldn't notice that when you change? >> 2 hours. >> I mean, I'm just >> Go ahead. >> Wipe his And he moves so fast and he runs away. disadvising res. >> The woman was ultimately charged with battery of a minor, aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery against a peace officer, endangerment, two counts of resisting, obstructing an officer, and domestic battery. Caitlyn had certainly sealed her own fate. But what happens when police encounter a father who tries to use his own son as a shield to escape the consequences of his actions? Answer the question, Tuan. Answer the question. How many times did I tell you to stop calling 911 for this? Do you know? Do you remember how many times you are using him as a shield right now, man? >> You're being a coward. You're using a child to protect yourself. >> My whole lives, man. >> He's not. >> On July 27th, 2023, police were called to a residence where a man had been evicted but refused to leave. He argued endlessly with both his landlord and officers, insisting he had paid rent, even though the eviction was already final. Throughout the day, he repeatedly dialed 911 over the same issue and even showed up at the police station to plead his case. But when officers prepared to arrest him, the situation took a disturbing turn. >> No. Hey, Toan. Don't walk away. Don't walk away. Come here, man. Come here. >> No. We're going to have a conversation, man. Stop walking away from me. Stop. >> Stop walking away. >> Stop. >> Hey, I ain't Hey, come on, man. >> Stop, dude. >> Stop. >> Stop walking. >> Come here, man. Please. Please. >> Listen to me. >> My hand. >> Listen to me. How many times did I tell you to stop calling 911 for this? How many times did I did I tell you put your kid down, man? Put the kid down. How many times did I tell you to stop calling 911 for this, man? >> Answer the question to answer the question. How many times did I tell you to stop calling 911 for this? Do you know? Do you remember? How many times? >> Put your kid down. >> Put him down. Put him down. >> Put the child down. >> Put the child down. >> Put him down. >> Put the child down. >> You are putting him in danger right now. Put him down. Tuan, put the child down. >> Everything's going to be okay. Just put him down, man. >> For what? >> Put him down. >> Put him down. >> What do I got to do? >> Put him down. >> For what? This my son. >> You're putting him in danger right now. Put him down. >> Put him down. >> I'm not putting him down, man. >> Put the child down. >> Put him down. >> Is there a supervisor? >> Put him down. >> I'm not putting him down. >> Is there a supervisor? >> I don't know. Can he be in there? >> Why you putting him in danger, man? Why are you putting him in this situation? Put him down. Please, man. >> Okay, listen. >> I didn't do nothing, man. >> You did? >> What did I do? >> You called 911 like 16 times today, man. >> Dude, I requested a county card and not request. >> Does not matter. You have been calling 911 after I told you. I told you explicitly. Okay. I explained how to remedy your situation. I told you you had to take him to civil court and you continue to call 911. >> Okay. >> I have a letter from the judge. >> It does not matter. That letter from the judge restricts you from being in that property. >> I have to go to the judge. Yes. >> Tomorrow. >> I want you to know something. You are now under arrest. >> If you don't put >> right now, you're interfering with our lawful orders and you're putting the child between you and officers trying to place you under arrest. >> If you do not release the child immediately, you'll get a secondary charge for putting the child in danger. Do you understand? Do you understand that you're creating a charge for yourself by putting the child in danger? >> For what? What did I do? >> Because you're now under arrest. We're going to put you in handcuffs and you're stopping us from doing that by placing a child between you and officers. So right now, if you keep the child between us and yourself, that is going to be a secondary charge and that child will be taken away from you. Do you understand? >> The suspect, later identified as Taiwan, had already made a series of reckless choices that day and the officers were clearly running out of patience. But as time went on, the situation only spiraled further out of control. >> So you understand that you're putting the trial in danger? >> I'm not putting him in danger. I'm in danger. I'm in fear of my life right now. >> You're putting a child. >> How are you in fear of your life? >> Because somebody >> No, no, no. Right now, you're talking to How are you in fear of your life? >> Somebody's been buggered to my house. >> How are you in fear of your life? >> Because I'm in my in a neighborhood and I can't walk my neighborhood. >> So, you're using a child to protect you while you're in. >> You are using him as a shield right now, man. >> I'm in fear of my life. >> You're being a coward. You're using a child to protect yourself. >> Fear of my lives, man. >> He's not. Let's just wait for 42 right now. >> Hey, per policy 42 because we're going to do an RTR. >> It's going to be an RTR. I know. All right. 35 to 42. Single 14. He's placing the child between us and himself and using the child as a shield. >> Not putting him down, man. This my son. >> Look, man. DCF is going to take him from you if you keep going down this route. >> This my son. >> Where's his mama? Where she at? >> Don't worry about where she at. That's my wife. Don't worry at Don't worry about this. My son. Is is he ever going to see either of y'all if you keep going this way? Is mom in prison? Where's she at? Tuan, I'm trying to reason with you. >> We're trying to make sure he has >> My wife My wife in jail, man. >> So, she's in jail. Okay. >> My wife in jail. >> We're trying to make sure he has a place. >> And I tried to tell you today. I tried to instruct you how to not I tried to tell you. I tried to tell you how not to commit a crime. And you have gone up against every piece of advice. >> Tuan, you have gone against every piece of advice I have given you today. Okay? You've done all of the wrong things instead of just listening. Okay. >> I had instructions, man. >> Instructions now are the ones that I'm giving you. >> Hey, I'm the supervisor. I just got here. Instructions are the same. Wait there. >> I had to wait. I told them to wait. If I was going to come >> Who told you that, >> Dispatch? >> No. I just spoke with dispatch. I just got off the phone with them. They are not coming out. >> I'm homeless, man. I ain't got nowhere to go. 6136 told me to stay right here and secure my property. That's what the [ __ ] told me to do. >> I went down there, come back. All my all my all my is missing, man. I ain't been in the house. I've been downtown, man. I ain't got no control over that. >> And that's why you call 911? >> Correct. Cuz my is rid. >> All right. What is your name again? T A W O R I L Y. I don't call Riley. I didn't I didn't even I made a mistake. I even calling y'all. I I requested I counted this. >> Well, but they're not going to come out here. I I just got off the phone with them. They're not going to come out. >> After listening to the suspect ramble incoherently and paint himself as the ultimate victim, the officers finally decided it was time to get a little more frank with him. >> But you know what? Child have to be scared either. Okay, >> I'm serious. >> What are you scared of? >> I got beat up in the blues by the police, man. Feel my >> That's not what we're here for today. >> I don't know. >> Look, we all have these cameras. >> Thing I know is that my up and nobody nobody don't know what the and I'm the one who sick. >> Does he have family around here or what? >> It's just me and my sir. >> That's it. My mom dead, man. Everybody's dead, man. You serious, man? >> I'm asking you questions. I don't know you. I am serious. >> My mom dead, man. I don't have nobody, man. I don't have nobody. This is all I got. And my wife is locked up. >> Where's the letter again? You said a judge gave you a letter. >> I return. Please. The officers finally saw an opening to place the suspect in handcuffs, but it wasn't until lethal force was deployed that he released his son. >> Oh my god. >> We're going to put handcuffs on you. >> Oh my god. >> Do you understand? >> Oh my god. >> If if you if you if you act up again, you're going to get drive. All right. Sit up. >> Sit up. >> Let's pat him down real good. >> 54. at rescue respond. Black male, 50s, conscious breathing. He's having a hard time breathing. >> Meanwhile, as some officers stayed with the suspect, others turned their attention towards his son. >> All right, man. You all right? You see your arms? >> I'm okay. >> You okay? Let me see your your chest. You okay? >> I didn't want to go home. >> Listen, man. >> How old are you? Eight. >> What other family do you have here that can take you if we need to put you somewhere? I'm sorry, man. Listen, your dad, he made some bad decisions today. He's not a I'm not saying he's a bad man, but he made some bad decisions. So, he's going to have to go to jail. And I didn't want this to happen this way. Okay. We're just going to have the ambulance come check you out, make sure you're okay, and then we're going to try to find you a place to go tonight. Okay. All right. Just staying out here. >> I have people that I know I can go to. >> You know their phone numbers. >> I know where they live. >> All right. So that I'm going to task you with phone numbers. >> Yeah. >> DCF, medical, release, all that stuff. >> Yes, sir. >> Your son is fine. Okay. He's fine. He's shooking up. >> They need to get by or something. You going to cooperate, right? >> Yes, sir. I didn't know. I didn't do. I'm sorry. All right. You got to help us out a little bit here. >> All right. Let's help us out a little bit, buddy. >> Yeah. There we go. tall man. >> You want me to ride with him? >> I guess. >> This is This is ridiculous. >> The man was charged with misuse of 911, neglect, and resisting arrest without violence. Moving on to the case of when this unfit mom abandoned her one-year-old in a hotel room for an extended amount of time. >> First of all, do you know what the Florida state statute is for child? Because this absolutely meets the requirements for it. >> That's the difference. We're not here to play games with you. That was the dumb analogy I ever heard in my life. >> On June 16th, 2024, officers responded to a hotel after receiving reports of a toddler left alone in a room while the mother was off handling what she believed were more important matters. Upon entering the lobby, the responding officer spoke with the caller. >> Open the door now. That's the moment she just pulled back up. >> Okay. Uh where's the kid? >> Is somebody with him? >> No. >> Okay. Can you show me where it is? Excuse me, ma'am. Excuse me. >> It quickly became clear that the woman who had just walked past the caller and the officer was the suspect. Deliberately ignoring them and pretending nothing was wrong, even though she knew exactly why they were there. >> Can you talk to me for a second? >> I know exactly what it's about. I >> So, hold on. What's going on? >> What do you mean? >> Okay, you said you know what's going on, right? You just told me that. So, what's going on? up there. I literally want to go get food. I work 12 hours a day. >> Ma'am, come here. Ma'am, >> come here. Come here. Come here. >> Listen, we're trying to talk to you. >> This isn't a police matter now. >> Okay. And you doing this is not helping you out. Okay? >> We're trying to talk to you, but unless you talk to us, you're going to push it one way. All right. Where you baby at right now? >> All right, let's go. Let's go. Moving on to the case of when this unfit mom abandoned her one-year-old in a hotel room for an extended amount of time. >> First of all, do you know what the Florida state statute is for child neglect? because this absolutely meets the requirements for it. >> That's the difference. We're not here to play games with you. Upon entering the lobby, the responding officer spoke with the caller. >> The one that locking the door now, that's the moment. She just pulled back up. >> Okay. Uh where's the kid upstairs? Is somebody with him? >> No. >> Okay. Can you show me where it is? >> Excuse me, ma'am. Excuse me. >> It quickly became clear that the woman who had just walked past the caller and the officer was the suspect, deliberately ignoring them and pretending nothing was wrong, even though she knew exactly why they were there. >> Can you talk to me for a second? >> I know exactly what it's about. We're trying to talk to you, but unless you talk to us, you're going to push it one way. All right. >> Where's the baby at right now? >> All right, let's go. Let's go. >> Yeah. Coming up, the woman opened the door to her toddler who according to her was just sleeping. Is >> anybody else in here? >> Put your stuff down and walk outside. >> It turned out the toddler had just been sleeping, but that didn't ease the officer's concerns. The woman's reaction made it clear she didn't grasp the seriousness of leaving her child alone. Instead of showing concern for her toddler, she seemed more upset about having to deal with the police and missing her meal. >> Everything is fine with her. Everything is not fine with the woman downstairs. >> Okay. >> You have to pull it to the left a little to shut it. >> Hold on. >> Is your address current on this or is this where you stay? >> This is where I stay for right now until the 19th. >> Okay. Arley, you said you know why we're here. What happened today? >> I went to work. >> Where do you work at? >> I work at Culver's. >> Okay. When did you go to work? >> 6:00. >> Okay. >> I left around like maybe 5:45. >> Okay. >> I went to work. >> Okay. Well, then >> what >> what happened then? >> I worked until about I think it was 1. 12. 12 or 1. One of them. No, 12ish. Um, came here, took like an hour nap, and then I went and picked her up. Went to Fallen Creek, came here, laid her down. No, gave her a bath, laid her down for a nap, and went to go get food. >> Okay. Who was watching her right now? >> No one. How long were you gone? >> Maybe 20 minutes. Maybe 20 minutes. Sure. >> Okay. Why did you leave her alone just now? >> Cuz I was just going across the street to get food. >> Why didn't you take her with you? >> Cuz she was asleep. >> The woman seemed to believe that using her job as an excuse would help her out. But it turned out that the officers had the complete opposite perception. >> So what you think? >> I wake up at 1:00 a.m. in the morning. Okay. >> I think your your >> I >> First of all, >> do you know what the Florida state statute is for child neglect? Because this absolutely meets the requirements for it. >> Who was alone in that room >> under me? >> No, we're we're talking about Florida State statute >> and the safety of this apartment comp or hotel complex, whatever. So I I don't think you're understanding though. We're not talking about somebody intervening up and starts coughing as a medical emergency. Something where she somebody to go, "Hey, something's wrong." Who is going to respond and go, "Hey, we need to do something about this." >> Okay. So what's the difference of being in a house and her being in a different room? >> What's the difference in that? >> You are in the house with her. She is under your supervision. The woman's approach to parenting suggested this wasn't a one-time mistake, but rather something that had likely happened before, and it would likely happen again if the officers didn't step in to stop it. >> So, the matter, the fact is, she was alone. >> No, alone. Come back. Okay. >> You This is good. Okay. Hey Siri. Patrick, hang up. >> Hey Siri, [Music] >> you got anything on you? >> No. >> No weapons on you? Nothing like that? >> No. >> Okay. >> We're not playing these [ __ ] games with you. >> Hey Siri, you understand me? >> All right. So, >> call UCI. Calli. All right. So, okay. So, >> hey Siri. >> Hey, that that's enough of that. >> Do you understand? We're trying to figure something out. You're being difficult with us right now. >> How old? >> She's one year old. Can a one-year-old take care of themselves in a room alone? >> So, we placed you on the strange because this is a criminal act. Okay. Just like You were trying to be smart and be like, "Oh, what's the difference between this and that?" Because you're going to go to jail. Okay? That's the difference. All right? You want to act smart, you want to be smart about it, that's fine. We're not here to play games with you. Okay? >> At this point, the officers had placed the woman in handcuffs. But despite their clear warnings that she was going to jail, she continued to act as if she had done nothing wrong in an attempt to maybe change their opinion on what had to happen. 54 for now, but if you want to be 51, you can. >> Okay. >> Anybody could take the baby to mom. >> Is there a way the mom could get here? Like asking a friend, asking someone to come over here. What's your What's your address? I'm five points. 82. It's on the main way. >> What's the address? >> Thank you. Highway 441. So, so going back to your question, do you know the difference now between leaving a baby in a house and leaving a baby here? Yes or no? >> Yes. >> Okay. I hope you understood that and I hope you answered your own question. Okay. You just want and take off. Ain't no difference when you can't hear the baby in the house. You can articulate that, but you just left. You're not in the freaking kitchen. You're not in the [ __ ] lobby. You left the property. Does that answer your freaking question? Cuz that was the dumb analogy I ever heard in my life. It's the difference between leaving a baby in the other room while you're in the kitchen, you can't hear. Are you serious? Please don't send me to jail. So, the reason why I detain you is because I needed to show you the difference between you leaving a baby here while you're in the kitchen. Yes, sir. >> All right. Do you understand the difference now? Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> That's a crime in the state of Florida. >> You cannot do that to them. Call for help if they need it. Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> That's the difference. I'm not playing no games with you because that little attitude that you got, I'm not going to reciprocate that. In incidents like this, grandparents or other close family members are usually the ones to pick up the children. But if that's not an option, DCFS steps in. The children are first medically cleared to make sure they're okay. Then given food and a safe space, often a much better environment than what they experienced with their parents. >> Okay, you see take >> I can get her dad to come get her, please. >> Well, now you can get Okay, get somebody. I need your friend. >> Do you know his number? >> He's not going to He can't answer his phone. >> Where does he live? >> He lives in Jacksonville, but he works. >> What's his name? >> We're going to wait for a sergeant to get here. We're going to explain to her the situation, explain to her what's going on. Okay. The reason why you're detained right now. You're not under arrest, but the reason why we had to pay attainment. Okay. The reason why we're here is not because we just chose 225 nights in for no reason. We're here for a call for service about a baby being left here alone. You confirmed that by opening the door. You let us in. The baby was indeed by herself. Okay. You thought it was okay to do that and you wanted to know the difference about leaving the baby in the room while someone's in the kitchen. This is the difference. you get place in handcuffs because this is not the same analogy you gave me. Do you understand that? Do we have a clear understanding that you are breaking a Florida statute of law? You are indeed you just committed a crime. Do you understand that? Which is what child what you said you weren't that you were not child. Okay. That's what That's what you are. That's what we just did right now. Okay. That's what you just did. We're not just making this up. That's what you just did. >> You know Ste's on the way? >> Yeah, she's on the way. >> Yeah. >> Where baby at? >> She's fine. >> She's sleeping. Please don't walk away. >> So, >> coming up, the woman was placed in the back of the police cruiser and could soon find herself in jail. The woman was charged with neg and resisting arrest without violence. Authorities contacted her sister who assumed custody of the child. Now to the case of a mom who had apparently grown tired of parenting and decided the solution was as simple as dropping her kids off at a relative's doorstep. Basically saying, "Here, you deal with them now." >> You can't just like drop off your kids at like people's houses. >> I left them with their family members and I'm going to jail for abandonment. >> Yep. You're going to go. >> Whoa. What the hell are you doing? Did you just offer? >> I sure did. >> Okay. Well, now it's felony. >> That's fine with me. >> Sick. Okay. On January 10th, 2025, officers were dispatched to a residence after a caller reported that a woman had dropped off her three children at their doorstep and then sped off without a word. >> What is the circumstances with her dropping off the kiddos here? >> So, I haven't spoke with Zia since >> what, May. >> She dropped the kids off at their dad's job. He took them back to her. They did a wellness check. She chased him in traffic. I saw this on video chat. She chased him in traffic with the kid. I don't know if the kids were in the car. Yeah. Chas chased him in traffic. Went and got the kids and I'm asleep. He said, "Somebody's banging at your door." >> Yeah. I was sitting in the room and we was just I was She was literally falling asleep. And that hurt >> like a consistent knocking. Okay. And I was like, "Somebody's knocking at the door." So then we both got up and she went to the window right here and was like she she seen who it was and was like you you're not supposed to be here. >> And she's like backing away. Tell your brother to come get the kids. Takes off running and backs out backs out the entire >> she didn't drive at all. She backed out the entire parking lot and then >> she never went in here. >> Never came in. No. >> Where were the Where were the kids at? >> Sitting on my front porch >> right in front of the door. >> Soon as we opened the door, >> they had bags. They had bags and all three of them in car seats. The house where the mother had dropped off her children turned out to belong to the father's sister and her boyfriend. Based on what the officers had learned so far, it appeared to be a case of abandonment. But they knew there was still a lot to uncover. Most importantly, they needed to make contact with the suspect. Ultimately, like that's what we care about, safety. We're going to write a thing up about this and then we're going to forward it to CPS. Okay. >> Okay. I think a CPS call has already been made. >> Okay. Well, there's going to be another one because it's uh leaving the kids out here and running away is not cool. >> Um, thank God you guys allowed them to, you know, get some more. >> I wasn't going to I wasn't going to leave them outside. >> Coming up, one of the officers walked outside to talk with the suspect's mom, the children's grandma. >> Hello, this is Officer Boy with the Federal Way Police Department. So, uh, we're here with your grandb babies and we're trying to get this all situation uh, sorted out. Uh, situation is the kids were left at their auntie's house. Correct. The youngest one, the one that's um sleeping, the one that has the cleft lip, and they had uh the baby, she has a feeding tube. Correct. So, our concern right now is that uh she needs to be fed. >> When do you know when the last time that she was fed? >> I don't think we need to get CPS to like take kids right now cuz Auntie's coming to get them, but it's just the mom is like tripping out. Like, you can't be doing that. I tried to call her like several times and >> and she's allegedly on her way to Oregon. Yeah, I >> she had that's what she said earlier when we went to Maraposa. >> I don't mean to interrupt you. I want to make sure that the little the little baby is medically okay. And then how often how often does she need to be fed during uh via the feeding tube? >> Fed on the feeding tube every 3 hours. >> When I 145 >> coming right up on it. >> Why are you not grabbing the mother's information? >> Uh my partners are grabbing all that. So, this is my portion of the investigation. >> What are you investigating, sir? That the children was dropped off with their auntie. >> It sounds like your daughter dropped uh the kids off over here and then took off. So, he was supposed to have the kids, then he dropped them off. Your daughter came, picked them up, and then dropped them off over here. Well, so she's not here taking care of her kids right now. So, that is our number one concern. And so you're not able to come pick up the grandb babies, but you're able to go to work. So if you're not going to give me your information, I'll let you get ready for work. Uh and then if another unknown number calls, uh just know that's the Federal Way Police Department trying to get a hold of you. Okay. >> At this point, the officer knew the fire department needed to check on the children, especially the infant who was supposed to be fed every 3 hours. Coming up, the officer called the father and asked him to come to the scene. >> Z officer Bo with the Federal Way Police Department. Just to let you know, I have my body camera on. What's going on tonight? Uh, are you able to come pick the kids up? Perfect. We need you to come pick the kids up at the auntie's at the auntie's house. Okay. Okay, perfect. Well, you'll see uh multiple police officer cars. Just pull up and we will talk to you outside and then we'll get the kids in your possession. Okay. >> Okay. So, grandma refused to give me her name or anything like that, but she was willing to talk on the phone with me. Uh, she was able to get a hold of mom uh is at home and she said that she's willing to come pick the kids up. So, I told her to come pick the kids up as soon as possible. She said she's about 5 10 minutes out. >> Okay. We're gonna talk to her. >> Yeah. >> Uh >> 100%. I didn't I didn't give her any information over the phone. I just wanted to get her on location. >> Perfect. >> So, >> I I don't know if I'm comfortable with that now. No. After what she did. >> At this point, the dad arrived at the scene and appeared visibly confused and upset about the situation. >> Three night and the father just arrived on scene. >> Why did she drop these folks off here? >> What's the deal? What's going on? What's up? What did she What did she say to you? What' she do? >> She didn't say anything. I got a call from Tamasa saying that my kids are here. >> Yeah. >> And I left the kids at their grandma's, but she's not even our relative. >> Right. >> And like she's like she said, they they have a case. Why she brought them here, I have no idea. >> We just had a conversation. >> Yeah, we did. Yeah. Me and you. Me and you. >> We just had a conversation. I was waiting for her to get to the house. I was at work. She comes to my job. Okay. >> Drops the kids off and walks out. I have bags and I have bags, car seats outside of my outside of my building. >> She just dropped off the kids. >> Just dropped off the kids, walked out the door. >> Are you guys separating? >> Yes. So, I go to her house. >> Okay. >> I have a key to her house, >> right? >> I >> And then that's where you saw us, right? >> Yes. >> Perfect. >> I'm at the house. I'm like, "Yo, you need to come get the kids." Blas blas. I don't know if she was coming, what not. I went to her mom's house, their grandma's house. I left the kids there. What did grandma say? >> The grandma I I didn't talk to the grandma. She was there with the kids. >> Okay. So, I'm just trying to figure out how it got to this situation. >> I have no >> Okay, no worries. Um if I do see her uh mom though, she's going to be placed under arrest, okay, for abandonment. Um do you know where she could be right now? >> I have no idea. After speaking with the father, one of the officers got on the phone with the mom. And that was when the situation turned even more sickening with her saying things such as, "I just need a break. What's the deal? >> Yes, I have a job. I I deserve a break. He hasn't even got none of the days that are his." >> Okay, hang on. >> So, I dropped him off on the days that was his. >> Okay. But when they when they when they called you, they they advised me that you were at home after you dropped off the kids. >> Yes. I went back home. I start work at 7. They've been there for since 3:00. They've been there way longer than that. >> Okay. Okay. >> I didn't drop them up until 3:50. Them kids been there for getting there 2 hours before you guys even called my mom. >> Okay. Okay. And uh what's your ETA here? >> That's 5 minutes. I got gas. Car's going to cut. Has anyone tried to call their dad to come get them? >> Yeah, we'll we'll facilitate that. We we'll we'll try and get that working. But we got to This is like pretty serious, right? I mean like can't just like drop off your kids at like people's houses. >> Yeah. Honest like someone needs to call their dad. I just I don't know, man. I'm just so mad. Like this ridiculous to me. If I can't even get a break. I can't even get my days that whating we had. >> All right. Well, just let you know the fire department is here and they're working on feeding your 10-month-old because the feeding tube isn't working. And so like that's like a whole another issue here that we're trying to we're trying to make sure that these kids are taken care of. uh plants. >> So, we're we're like I said, we're trying to make sure these kids are taken care of, right? That's like the whole issue here. Like nobody knows about the whole like feeding thing. Like this is why it's very like alarming that like you would just leave your kids here and leave. Um so anyways, I I'll talk to you more when you get here. >> Coming up, the mom arrived at the scene and the officers knew exactly how to tackle the first encounter with her. >> She's got like a like a feeding tube thing going on. >> Yeah. Is the clamp? >> It's not working. Okay, hang on. Put your hands behind your back. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Why are both of you arrested? >> You're under arrest for >> I'm under arrest for a minute. >> Yep. >> Yep. >> Who did I all of your children? Children. >> I left them with their dad. >> No, you didn't. >> Are you kidding me? I left them with their family members and I'm going to jail for a minute. >> Yep. You're going to go. >> Whoa. Hold the No. Call my mom first. >> Day shift is taking who? Their dad's here and you're telling me he can't do the clamp problem. >> Also, uh you're suspended and revoked third degree. So, you're also arrested for uh >> suspended in the third degree. >> Yeah, you're unable to drive. So, >> what the what about my left or right? >> So, who's going to park my car? >> Let's do Let's do uh let's do uh what's it real quick? >> Oh, what the Okay, >> spread your feet. >> That's fine. >> All right, since you got my mom, this is crazy. >> You're going to be in jail until Monday. It's the weekend. >> What do you mean Monday? >> Next time. >> It's It's the weekend. Do you have anything? >> There's no court tomorrow. >> Tomorrow's Friday. >> Yes, >> it's Today is Friday. >> I have work, so that's why you guys had me come here. >> Well, dad's here and uh the baby is in dire need to go to the hospital right now. >> What do you mean that I just fed her? What are you talking about? There is no dying need of nothing. >> That's what the department fire department said. I'll get nothing. >> No, you're lying. I have her feeding things right on my schedule. You guys are lying. No, you guys have not got to sit here and make it seem like I did didn't feed my child. >> Coming up, one of the officers got to talk with the dad again and prevented him from escalating the situation further. >> All right, so Dad, why don't you hang back with me for a second? Uh, we got mom in custody. All right, we don't need any interaction between you two. All right, it's already been a stressful night for you guys. Uh, let's try to limit all that. All right, >> yo, >> my mom will bail me out like your mom's. You [ __ ] >> hop in the car. Put your feet in. Yeah, it's okay. And I will get my kids back. >> Put your Put your feet in the car, please. >> Let's just limit all this. All right. I appreciate it. >> Cuz I'm going to be >> I know. I know. >> I appreciate you guys. >> That in front of the police. >> I will beat your ass. >> Shut up. Come on. >> Get in the car, please. >> You were doing my hand, you stupid. >> Whoa. What the hell are you doing? Did you just offer? >> I sure did. >> Okay. Well, now it's a felony. >> That's fine with me. >> Sick. Okay. to me for no reason going to push me in the car like that. I don't care. Good. >> Yep. >> She's fine. >> I didn't hit her that hard. I pushed her off of me. I pushed her off of me. >> Like I said, she was being aggressive towards you. >> Nope. Trying to get you in the car. You can't be officers. >> I was getting in the car. She had my cuff. You guys were being ridiculous. >> No, we have body. >> I supposed to get in. Yes. And you can see she had my cuffs. Like I said, how am I going to get in the car? You have my >> C. Can't you can't be cops like that. >> That's fine. She has no reason to be aggressive towards me. I've not been mean or aggressive towards nobody. So, be tort. You have no reason, like I said, to be aggressive towards. >> Coming up, the woman was transported to the police station where the male officer began writing up the charges now extended to include assaulting an officer. >> I didn't drop them off by themselves. Like, come on, man. I reallyed these kids. I dropped his comp. >> You're under arrest for amendment third degree and assault three and a police officer. >> Assault three other police officers. >> Yep. It's a felony. >> You'll be going to the King County Jail. >> Okay. >> Before she was transported to jail, one of the officers asked the woman to share her side of the story. Her explanation slightly shifted their perspective as it appeared the children were actually in their father's custody. He had just prioritized work over properly caring for them. >> Okay, you can uh start now going over your side of the story. What exactly happened? >> Um well from the beginning me have four days on four days off. I have them Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and drop them off Thursday at day supposed to pick them up Thursday afternoon. these last few weeks he hasn't been picking him up. So I told him today I'll be dropping them off like it wasn't a conversation. So he was like well I don't get off until 11. So I was like perfect. So I packed up all my kids' clothes for 5 days with extra outfit food. I did everything like I normally do and I dropped him off at his job. But the only difference this time is I dropped him off early. So he gets mad and he was like, "Well, you need to come back to the house to pick up your kids." I said, "I'm not coming to pick them up." So we get into a verbal exchange argument. He said that he was leaving the kids there at the house. So I called the police and asked him to go check my house to see if they were there with my kids. At first, the officer couldn't get up there. They called me back. They asked me if I can come to the house and get the kids. I said, "Well, I'm on the freeway to Portland." And I really was. I was leaving Seattle and I said, "Well, it's going to take me time to get back." So, I stopped the car cuz I was in Lake when I stopped and I waited and I waited. I waited. I I just smoked me a blunt. That's how long I waited. The officer calls me back and was like, "Well, uh, we can't get inside your apartment. Um, do you have a family member you can call?" I said, "No, I don't have nobody to get to my apartment." He goes back after I tell him my kids is ages. He goes back. He knocks on the door and Maurice is there with the kids. He has the kids. So I go back on the freeway and I start headed back to Portland. So when I'm on my way back, my mom starts blowing up my phone. She was like, "Cuz I your kids are at my front door." I said, "What do you mean my kids are at your front door?" She said, "I left these kids here with nothing but a jacket on." And I said, "Are you serious?" And she was like, "Yes." So, I have to turn all the way back around and my kids are outside. So, I said, "Dude, you're playing. I'm going to drop these kids off at your godmark's house." Like, these are your dates. I go to his godmark's house. No one answers the door. So, then I go on Snapchat and Facebook. He's over at Tamas's house. So, I go over there and I drop the kids off at Tomas's house. Yes. I packed them out of the car. I put them in front of the door and I knocked at the door and I stood there. First thing Tomasa does, she comes down the stairs. That window that is right there, she opens it. She was like, "Kazya, you can't leave your kids here." I said, "I know your brother's here." So, Maurice parked. Okay, let me go back. There's two ways to get to her house. There's the back way you can go when you go around the roundabout. That's the way that I came. I came around the roundabout in the back and car was parked on the side of the street. The mother was charged with child abandonment and assaulting a police officer. As for the children, they were released into their father's custody. After hearing her side of the story, what do you think the outcome of this case should be? Now to the case where police confronted a reckless mother who had left her young children alone in a hotel room for several hours. >> Cuz your kids were by themselves. >> Uh, no they weren't. >> Left them in a hotel room. And then you want to get upset with us like this is our problem that we created. No, no, no. We didn't create this problem. On December 6th, 2024, officers were dispatched to a hotel after receiving a report that two children, ages 1 and 3 years old, had been left alone in a room. Knowing how fast a situation like this could spiral into tragedy, they rushed to the scene without hesitation. >> Called over here cuz they were crying. So then he came and didn't want to leave them alone. >> So he went and grabbed to grab Oh, there he is. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> So, can you tell me what's going on? >> Yeah, we got called cuz your kids were by themselves. Uh, no they weren't. >> Who was here then? >> My sister was just here. >> Okay. They weren't here for the last 30 minutes when the worker came and checked. So that's why we're here. Baby was like grabbing at that he needs a diaper change. I think >> I've at least been here for 12 minutes and the person who called had been here for some time before calling. So >> this is ridiculous. Honestly. >> Okay. So you have to stay in the room now with me. I'm I'm waiting because you keep going out there and I need to make sure these kids are good because you weren't here for like 30 minutes or no one was here. An adult was not here for 30 minutes with them. >> They were both sleeping. My sister just came out and I went to the store >> for 30 minutes. >> My sister was here. >> Ma'am, I'm telling you, the person who called is someone who works here. >> Okay, I understand that. But they have to do the they won't do the complete investigation >> cuz then they have to prove that I I was >> What's your first name? >> You need my first and last name. >> And what's a good phone number for you? >> 224. >> Okay. >> The woman was clearly frustrated that the police were involved. She didn't seem to view the situation as a serious issue at all. >> Okay. Well, this officer is in there watching your kids. We'll go in there and talk to them. Go inside and watch your children, please. >> Okay. This is [ __ ] >> Who was the your what's your name that was watching them? >> How do you spell that? >> Can you stay over here, ma'am? >> I'm I'm trying to hear what's going on. >> Anna phone number. >> I don't have her phone number. I literally have a laptop. You see, I don't have >> How do you speak to her? So that >> Facebook >> Okay. Can I >> But I just gave you her name. I don't have a phone number. This is I don't even have a phone. This is all I have. I can show you that. >> So, what do you want me to do? >> Where does she What's her address? Hello. >> Hi there. All right. >> Hi, guys. What's going on today? >> You got a good point there. Huh? >> They were left unattended. She says just 30 minutes, but it is two to four hours. >> You stay here for just I got to find somebody who can talk to me on the side. >> Here, I'll I'll you guys can Yeah. >> Hi, boss. Mom is in here changing the other one. >> While the first responding officer briefed her sergeant on the situation, other officers outside the hotel room met the father for the first time. He appeared completely confused about what was going on. >> I think this is a mistake. Like she just or something. >> You want to switch places? >> You want to go in there with the kids? >> Are they okay? >> Yeah, you can come in. >> So crazy. Your iPad is in the bathroom. >> You don't have a phone? >> No. >> How would How would anyone contact you? What is >> Well, I just contact like Are you saying like how do I communicate with my family and everyone? >> Yeah. Let's say I'm trying to I'm trying to contact you. How would I contact you? >> Through Facebook Messenger. >> Facebook. And then do you live here at this hotel? Yeah. This room. Okay. We were talking to Dalen. We just want to know the timeline of what happened. So, what I understood is Dalen went to the gas station. Mhm. >> Can you start from there? When Dalon left to the gas station, where were you? >> I went outside at first and then I let my sister in. I was up here for a little and then I left for about 30 to 40 minutes. >> Okay. And your sister? >> Mhm. >> Okay. And you're in the room. You physically saw her in the room with the kids before leaving? >> Yes. >> Okay. And where did you go? >> Is this supposed to be like am I going to be arrested? Like what's going on? >> I'm just trying to figure out what happened right now. We walked into a room where kids are by themselves. on the side of >> like 30 minutes. But I understand. And were they Was one of them sleeping? >> Neither one of them was sleeping. >> Okay. Cuz she just checked on the woman. She was sleeping. But >> coming up, the woman revealed something about her parenting that made it clear to officers this wasn't just a one-time incident. Her reckless behavior had become a pattern. >> Yeah, I I I think I've explained enough to the other officers. So, I've already had DCFS called me before, and I know how this goes. >> I'm the investigating officer. I'm the one that's going to be typing up stuff that happened. So, can you just tell me what happened? >> I was gone for 30 to 40 minutes. >> Okay. And you left. Was your sister in the room? >> Uhhuh. Okay. >> She comes She's You can see on the cameras, she comes here frequently. She showers here. >> Does she have her own room key to the door? >> No, she would need mine. She has a key to get in through the doors, but my door is currently off. That's how you guys were able to get in. >> You left. And then where did you You left and where'd you go? >> I went back down through this way. >> Okay. You You stayed in the hotel? >> No, I left. >> Okay. 30 to 40 minutes. >> Okay. Where'd you go? >> I went to make an errand. >> Where would that be? >> In Elgen. >> Elgen is pretty. >> You have to be very specific. >> I would like to know where you went. Yes. >> I went to go handle some business. >> Somewhere close to here. Where is it? >> It's about 15 minutes at at the most away. >> Did you drive there? >> No, I had a ride. >> You had a ride. Who'd you ride with? >> I think it's >> You happen to have a last name? >> No. Yeah, it was requested for me. >> Is that like an Uber service? >> Who requested that for you? >> My sister. >> Do you know right now? No, I don't. Probably at work. >> Okay. What time does she usually go to work? >> She has different shifts. They rotate and it's peak season, so I don't know. >> You left here to go run an errand. You got a ride from someone >> and you don't you don't want to tell me where that is. >> I just It's a little personal, so I don't really >> feel the need to express it, but >> I just want I I honestly just want to know what's going on. Like I can know if you guys are trying to translate before so I can just let my mom know and call my grandma. So, actually it's like >> How long ago did Dalon leave the uh hotel? >> I'm not sure because I was still here. >> Okay. And then you left how long ago you said? >> Well, now it's probably way longer than 30 to 40 minutes, right? Cuz I've been here about what >> How long were you gone? >> 25 minutes. I was gone for up to 40 minutes. >> When did you meet up with Den? Cuz you guys walked in here together. >> I called him as soon as I was on my way back. >> I thought neither one of you had a phone. >> Did you see me coming in with a laptop? >> You called him on a laptop. >> He has an iPad. Neither one of us don't have a phone. And where did you guys meet up at? >> Outside >> like outside the hotel. >> Coming up, one of the officers gave the mother a brief on what was going to happen from that moment onward. >> So, we have to take the kids to the hospital. >> So, am I going with my kids? >> Well, we are taking them to the hospital so that they can get medically evaluated and then we're going to have to contact DCFS to see what they want to do from that point. I can't tell you what DCFS. >> So, you're telling me you're taking my kids away from you? They are going to the hospital to be checked out because the information that we've been provided is that they've been left there for several hours since before 2:00. So, we have an obligation to make sure that the kids are safe medically cared for. >> That time frame, really any time frame with kids that age is not acceptable. But when we're talking 3 plus hours, that's that's a problem. >> So, we have to make sure that they're okay. That would be examined by a medical professional. I don't feel that >> am I not given the right to go with my kids to the hospital? Well, that's one thing we're going to be kind of talking about at just one just one second. >> Say you call her on your uh laptop. >> Let them do their thing and you can get you can have your laptop and you can call, text, however you need. Deja, can you stay out here? >> Call your mom or call someone. Take our kids. >> You want to take our kids? >> So So again, I Let's not make this any more complicated. The kids are going to the hospital to get checked out by a medical professional because our investigations revealed that they've been left here alone since 1:30 p.m. which is completely unacceptable. We have an obligation to make sure that the kids are in a good medical condition. And so we are going to make sure that they're examined at a hospital and we're going to call DCFS for further direction. That's that's what it is. >> So, do we get our kids back after the hospital? >> We're going to have to call DCF. DCFS is going to make that determination. We're going to have to call DCFS. And I'm supposed to like trust that you guys are going to >> You can trust us. Believe me, we will do a good job of of making sure that your kids are cared for. Okay? And and again, you can't even come with him. I don't have a cell phone. How you guys going to tell me what's going on on the updates with my daughter? >> We'll be with you. But one thing I will tell you is although you're upset and frustrated, cooperation is going to be very important to make sure that this is a smooth process. If you want if you want your kids back, then you need to cooperate. I already went through this before. >> I'm going to try to reiterate what the officer was saying. All right. On behalf of the Elgen Fire Department, we have to make sure that the kids are well taken care of. I'm Captain Walzac with the with the department. You you've got my name. I can give you all the contact information you need. I believe one of the officers are going to be remaining. So, we're going to have ways. I understand your phone's not working. The city's going to provide you with an officer so that they can relay information. And >> so, you don't know like how long like we do. It's literally up to DCF. We're going to make >> because of the other case, they might just take my daughter. >> Yeah. >> Wow. >> Are you serious? >> They literally came in here and like literally cleared them and said that they look healthy and they're going to confirm that the hospital >> and DCFS is going to make a determination on what we do. I'm not going to say that they're going to take the kids away from you. They may give the kids back to you tonight, but we have a process that we need to to go through. And it's imperative that you guys don't obstruct or make this any more difficult than it needs to be because again, we have to report to DCFS. >> Well, hold on one second. >> I just need to get my iPad. >> Unless you're cool with >> We have an officer coming up to follow them to the hospital. So, we should have an >> app on my iPad. I I have not. >> You'll get a chance to contact out here with us the hallway. >> Why does he need to go in the hallway? >> She needs to talk to these officers. Come on, please. Let's go. >> We'll let you make a phone call. >> You're making this more complicated. >> Cooperating is making you guys take my kids. No, don't say because this is >> in the hallway now. Okay. In the hallway. >> No, no, no. It's okay. I'm going back. I'm going. I'm going. For what? >> Put your arms for what? >> Put them on your back. >> For what? >> For what? >> Me. >> After arresting the father, officers moved to arrest the mother as well. Despite being clearly told that cooperating could help things go more smoothly and even improve her chances of getting her children back sooner. She chose to take things down a different path. >> No, I had my sister. >> She wasn't here. The video shows she wasn't here. >> Okay. >> You can't lie with the video. I don't give a You guys had to see everything. Okay. From beginning to see how many people enter these doors. Okay. >> I did. >> Okay. >> I did. >> Okay. >> There was no Did you guys call them yet? >> We're calling them. We're dealing with you guys first. >> What? >> Police. They're taking me to jail. >> For what? >> For me. >> No. Please, >> bro. No. That's [ __ ] >> It's [ __ ] It is [ __ ] >> What's bull is no. You guys cannot do this. You came here to our hotel. >> We were called here. We didn't come here because we just decided to stroll in here. >> We were called by the hotel because you made a bad decision to leave your kids home alone. That's what it was done. >> That's not >> You can make excuses all you want, but the reality is is you committed a crime and we have an obligation to make sure that your kids are okay. If you think it's okay to leave your kids in a in a hotel room by themselves for 3 hours, if you think that that's okay, that's a rational thing in your head, then you have some serious problems because we have probable cause to believe that these kids were left unattended in a hotel room at age 2 and four, which is completely unacceptable under any circumstance. >> One and four. One and three, >> sorry. One and three. Left them in a hotel room. And then you want to get upset with us like this is our problem that we created. No, no, no, no. We didn't create this problem. We are now forced to deal with it because you guys made a bad decision. And I'm not trying to talk down to you or belittle you. But there there is a point in time when we need to take some self responsibility for our actions. And this is unaccept. And when unacceptable things happen and criminal law is broken, we have an obligation as the police to do what we need to do. We care about your kids. We want to make sure your kids are safe. Leaving kids alone for a 3 plus hour period is not acceptable. There are resources available to help You guys don't even have like this is crazy. So even when we're inside and out, right? I leave for 5 minutes. >> I'm asking I'm asking what is the consecutive time that I have to be. >> There is no set timeline. It's what's reason. >> So if I leave for 10 minutes and I go outside, smoke a and I come back in. That's unacceptable. >> It depends on the circumstances. That's not the circumstances we're dealing with right now. The circumstances we're dealing with are that the kids were left alone for 3 plus hours. So that >> you guys took my kids. So now how am I like this is crazy. So, someone's going to stay with me the whole night and make sure they're going to tell me every day with my daughter. >> That's not the plan. >> So, what's the plan? >> We're going to be with you so that if you have questions about what what's going on, we're going to share that. >> What's the plan? >> The plan is you're going to be going down to the police station with us to address this. >> Jayen, I'm getting arrested, too. >> Yes, you both are. >> Because they they're saying that they have evidence. The judge will see everything. I've already had this this exact same thing go >> and we're not saying you're guilty of anything. We're saying you have problem. You're guilty until proven. We're saying you have we have probable cause for your arrest for endangering the life and health of a child. Actually, two counts because there's two children involved. That's what I'm telling you. I'm not I'm not trying to tell you that you're guilty of anything. That's for the courts to decide. But we have an obligation when innocent children are involved in a case that we have to do everything line by line to the book. And I would not be doing your children a service if I just left them here with you and said, you know, let's try and do better. It doesn't work that way, unfortunately. Now, DCFS is going to ask us for photos of the conditions that we found the kids in. We take pictures for their purposes. >> I'm saying that the DCFS want to see the f see if my kids are okay. >> They can't see them by the pictures. They're not going to come here. They're going to go to the hospital. >> Okay. Then they can see them at the hospital. But no, they can't take photos. They're not taking photos of my my children. No, >> no, no. I'm I'm talking about the conditions of your apartment. >> You cannot take pictures of No, my apartment. >> You don't want me to? >> No. I mean, it's for the most part, it's not that bad. But >> it it documents the conditions at the time that we were here. >> Okay. All So, so you're asking to take permission photos? >> Yeah. >> Okay. No, you can't. >> Okay. >> They said that we left. Yes. So, they took both the babies away from us and took them to the hospital right now. And now they're trying to charge me and Dalen with child end. What is the process from here? I'm going to be >> taken to the police station, booked and processed, and then we'll go from there. Both parents were charged with endangerment.
