You're more than likely going to assault me and touch me without my permission. >> Can you stand up for me? >> You're going to make us make you stand up. >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Don't touch me. You're about to blow my >> DON'T YOU TOUCH >> WHY DO SOME PEOPLE THINK that just because you don't have something gives you the right to steal it? Because this woman didn't just walk into a Target and grab a few basic necessities. She loaded up over a thousand dollars worth of groceries, clothes, electronics, toys, and apparently anything else that wasn't bolted to the floor. And somehow that wasn't the worst decision that she made that day. She had a golden opportunity to walk away with just a slap on the wrist. And immediately she used that same hand to just whack that opportunity right into the garbage. >> Good afternoon. >> Um we do have a subject in custody right now. She's being handed in the office. So I can I can take you over that way. >> Okay. Is this all of this stuff? >> It's all of this, yeah. >> All of this? >> It's a total of 1053.59. >> 1053? A thousand? >> Yeah, 1053.59. >> Jesus. Okay. Can I get anything? What's the last one was 700? >> THE LAST ONE? >> [laughter] >> SO APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT HER first time. So she has all of this [ __ ] sitting at checkout. The Target employee says it comes out to 1050, which is a thousand fifty dollars. And the police respond, last time it was 700. So the last time I want to know about the last time. I want to know about the last time. Is this this situation where they're watching you steal and they're just like building a case against you? Maybe when she tried to attempt to steal the other 700 dollars they didn't really do anything because they wanted her to, you know, cross the felony threshold and now she officially has because damn, a thousand dollars filled a cart. She's in trouble. >> Hello. what's up? What's up? Uh, so what do we got? >> Uh, pretty much all that. See if I can stuff it all in there and just walk out of the store with it. >> Okay. All right. What's your name? >> Grace. >> Grace? All right, Grace. What's going on with all this stuff here? >> I'm really homeless. I tried to walk out just to at least have something to my name and be able to chill out and I don't know. My phone just got broke. My wallet just got stolen. I came from a situation at my boyfriend's house. I tried to go to my mom's house. She ended up having everyone come into my room and steal from me. So, I headed down to Chicago with an old friend. Me and them ended up getting into a fight. So, now I'm here. I'm trying to make ends meet. I stink. I don't want to wear these panties and socks to begin with this [ __ ] But, you know, I was I was going to put all that [ __ ] into a suitcase to make my way. >> Okay. Do you have ID? >> No, sir. Like I said, my wallet was just stolen from me. >> Wallet was stolen. Did you report that? >> Uh, with what phone? >> Don't need a phone. You can walk >> I'm not saying that she's lying about all of these uh bad things that have happened to her recently, but it sure is convenient that she's had her phone stolen, her wallet stolen, then her mama let some people go in her room and steal her stuff. So, she's thinking, "You know what? I'm just going to go steal, too." 12 wrongs don't make a right, honey. >> Go into a police station. >> I wish I had a photocopy ID. I wish I wish my name to have my wallet be valuable. Honestly. >> Okay. So, it's a female um down on her luck, had a bunch of stuff stolen from her, fighting whatever with uh boyfriend. Uh, they got a receipt of over a thousand dollars worth, but it's like a whole bunch of just like food items, drinks, just miscellaneous stuff that would literally be for a homeless person. Looks like a mat, backpack. Uh all right, what uh you guys seen her before? >> No, it's the first time she's been here. >> Okay. Um I just called my sergeant and just wanted to make sure uh you guys Are you guys okay with a local ordinance? >> Um I would be. Just the fact that if whenever it's a huge amount they want us to first charge her just like front of the amount. >> Okay. >> It's around like 300 bucks. >> My sergeant's pushing for, given the circumstances, homeless, you guys got the stuff back. Uh just given the circumstances. >> I know. >> That's what I told him over the phone. >> Okay. >> She's cooperative, but obviously [music] up to you guys. I'm just letting you know what what he's suggesting we do. Again, just running everything by you, letting you know what the sergeant says and thinks. You okay with that? Okay, we'll do that. I'll see what she says. Uh >> Got you. >> Quick info. Most everything was like food and like like What all were you buying today? >> Nothing, as you can see. >> I mean, it's a lot of >> Okay. Um I don't like her. I don't like her. I don't like the smug [ __ ] look on her face. I don't like her attitude. I don't like her entitled demeanor. I just don't like her. At all. She does not seem one bit remorseful. And right now, I'm just extremely frustrated that the police seem like they're willing to go easy on her. They're asking asset protection, like what all they want to do, what they don't want to do. Everybody seems like they're being very lenient with her, and she has the face of a smug little entitled [ __ ] I don't like it, and it's making me very angry. [laughter] It's making me very angry. Like, I tried to have empathy or sympathy. I try to have all of the empathies >> [laughter] >> for people, especially if she really is homeless, and she has had her wallet stolen and her phone, and she's just, you know, down on her luck, and and she needed things, and she felt like this was the only way to get it. Which, can I just say, loading up an entire cart full and just trying to walk out the front door, that's a pretty lazy freaking way of shoplifting. I'm sorry, I'm just going to say it. That is the laziest form of shoplifting I have ever seen in my life. That is just so incredibly just careless and boring. I'm just going to It's boring, okay? Just going to load up a cart and try to walk out the front door? Were you trying to get caught? Did you want to sleep in a jail cell? Like, what what the what the what the hell is her problem? I don't like her, and uh it's probably going to sway my commentary just a little bit today, just saying. >> It's a lot of things. >> Yeah, I was going in there and >> bunch of electronics. >> A bunch of electronics? Let me see that real quick. Everything in here, because I ain't I ain't touched no mother I mean, y'all must got to try to bring some [ __ ] up in my mother >> Grace, Grace, don't get loud, all right? >> No, because at the end of the day >> get loud, all right? Listen to what he has to say. >> you trying to push authority on to me? >> pushing authority. >> want to try to make your voice louder than mine when you try to >> I'm not trying >> start dominance. You don't You're not I'm not in your dominion. Okay. >> Uh I'm talking the same tone as I did when I first came in here, okay? I'm literally reading off this receipt that they have. Everything is categorized, apparel, electronics, three items, groceries, health and beauty, home, stationary and office supplies, and toys, okay? That's all I'm reading to you. I'm just trying to talk to you, all right? I talked to my sergeant. He is more than willing to >> [clears throat] >> just charge with a local ordinance. >> It's a local ordinance. I don't even know what y'all are talking about. >> I'll explain it to you, okay? No need to get All right. >> What is up with her [ __ ] attitude, man? What is up with her attitude? They are being nice. She is starting to become like passive-aggressively angry with them, which is pissing me off. She actually accused them of putting items in her cart cuz she claims she didn't have any electronics. Does she understand that anything can be classified as electronics, even if she got like a charging cord? That could be an electronic item, you dumb ass. No, they're not putting [ __ ] in your cart to up your charges, even though they should because you seem like you really don't give a [ __ ] about what is about ready to happen to you. So, why not pile it on? You probably deserve it. >> A local ordinance is a ticket, basically, in Rosemont, as opposed to you being charged criminally through the courts, all right? This is a felony amount. Not trying to insert dominance, okay? I think everybody here would agree. I'm talking to you with respect, not raising my tone. All right? Sug- >> A lot more respect than she deserves. She's not giving you any respect. She looks like a smug little [ __ ] I just want to wipe the look off her face. It's just Ooh, IT'S FREAKING ME MAD. >> Suggestion is that you cooperate and continue to because you have so far. And again, with the store's approval and my sergeant's approval, we can just charge you given the circumstances. Homeless, down on your luck, we're not trying to [ __ ] you, excuse my language, all right? >> Yes, you are. Because by going on those streets without some of those supplies, guess what's going to happen to me on that CTA? I'm I'm to be snatched up and left in a ditch, and then you're going to be the one discovering my [ __ ] body. How are you going to like that one? Young Grace, slit open in the middle of a [ __ ] ditch. You don't even recognize my face because of how [ __ ] up I am. Cuz that's what happens to young girls in the middle of the night in Chicago. Tell me I'm wrong. >> You're right. >> Okay, I won't tell her that she's wrong cuz it's Chicago. Sounds freaking terrifying. But don't try to manipulate the police. They are literally cutting you every break that they can. Okay? You have a freaking felonious I always thought that was a funny word. Felonious I thought that was the right word, right? Felonious amount of charges stacked up against you and they're willing to let you go with a freaking citation. Okay? And you're sitting there basically trying to manipulate them into just letting you take all of the stuff because if you don't, then you're going to end up slit in a ditch. Seriously? I'm trying to have sympathy for her and I just I just don't. I just don't. It's the It's the entitled look on her face. The fact that she just tried to walk out the front door of a Target with a thousand dollars worth of merchandise in a shopping cart. Target, really? At least go to Walmart. >> [laughter] >> No, no. Don't shoplift at Walmart. That was That was just a joke, but she looks like the type that would shoplift at Walmart, not Target. >> Do you want to talk yourself into a felony? >> Not talking myself into anything. I'm being honest. If you don't want to get the truth and if you If you want to be brainwashed and >> I'm being straightforward with you, okay? All right. I'm going to go out to the car, start this, uh check on the DL image. >> Mhm. >> Uh can we cuff her to the bench? Uh and then I will be back. >> Chris, are you right-handed or left-handed? >> [laughter] >> Am I left-handed or right-handed? >> Correct. >> I'm right-handed. Is there any way you can put it on my left though so I can have these to cushion the [ __ ] cuffs? Pretty please. You can do it. >> Okay. We're not going to put them on that tight. Trust me, okay? We're going to put them on your left cuz you're right-handed. >> Honey, their job is to not keep you comfortable. They're not going to, you know, allow there to be a cushion between your wrist and the handcuffs. If the police cared at all about people being comfortable while wearing handcuffs, they'd use those fuzzy ones. You know the kind. You You know the kind >> [laughter] >> I'm talking about. Police don't use fuzzy handcuffs because they don't care about your comfort level. >> I'm going to go back to the car and wait for the positive ID based on the picture. >> Um And then as long as everything's still the same and kosher, I'll let you know. Are you good with that? All right. I'll be back. >> But do you understand that I'm kind of encumbered and you need to kind of stand above me, so this is a little bit of an intimidating situation. So, if you could please step step back a little bit, that would make me feel more comfortable. >> between us. >> Well, actually COVID distance is 6. >> Okay. Well, >> Sir, >> you're going to have to be in close proximity. >> COVID distance is 6 ft. [ __ ] this is 2025. Nobody's listening to social distancing rules anymore. You're basically under arrest, okay? The cops going to stand however close they need to, but don't touch them. Don't don't touch a police officer because then you'll get wrestled to the ground and aggressively thrown in the back of their police car, so don't do it. What is this requesting that a police officer stand 6 ft away while she's being detained? >> [snorts] >> [ __ ] off. Proximity >> I might have pneumonia. And you're making me uncomfortable. >> And that's assault. You want to assault an officer? >> I'm not assaulting nobody because he's coming He's Why are you standing so close? >> moved. >> Why can't you stand back there? >> Would you like me to step back? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Hey, I can ask something else. >> All right. All right, Grace, still trying to confirm your identity. All right. How old are you? >> I'm 25. >> 25? Okay. All right, so what's going to happen is we're going to take you back to the station. >> Okay. >> We have to fingerprint you to confirm your identity. All right? Are there going to be any issues when we get your fingerprints back? You're not wanted under a different name. What's that? >> Not counting on it. >> Not counting on it? Like are you positive or it's it's a maybe? All right. >> Yeah, that means that she's got some warrants or some other things going on cuz if she didn't she would say, "Nope, there's nothing. This is my first time ever being in trouble." So, her response right there tells me, yeah, she's she's probably got a laundry list of things that they're going to find when they fingerprint her. >> [sighs] >> God. >> Do you guys need anything else from us right now? So, >> Uh, just >> we just got to confirm. >> Is there Would you mind patting me down instead of him? I'm a >> Is it a female? >> Okay, then y'all legally can't pat me down. >> Yeah, we can. >> No, that's an invasion of my privacy. >> No, it's not. >> I'm a woman. You can't touch me, grope me, and hurt me. >> No, there is there is multiple witnesses, cameras are on, all right? Okay? >> I I just I don't necessarily feel comfortable with a grown man's hands on top of me >> All right, well, there's a lot of other people present. Obviously, I'm not going to do anything. >> It would just make me feel more comfortable if you got a female deputy on scene. >> All right, well, we don't right now. We're going to run you back. >> Well, sir, I really don't feel comfortable in this position without a female deputy present. >> It's going to have to be. >> Well, so you're going to assault me. You're going to touch me without my permission. >> No, I'm legally doing my job, okay? >> You're legally going to assault me and touch me without my permission. >> Can you stand up for me? Stand up. Stand up. >> You going to make us make you stand up? >> Don't touch >> Stand up. >> Stand up. >> me. You're about to grope my [ __ ] DON'T YOU TOUCH ME. >> STOP. STOP IT. >> HEY, YOU'RE TOUCHING MY BOOB. HE'S TRYING TO GRAB IT. HE'S TRYING TO GET IT. >> STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. >> LET ME OUT. LET ME OUT. >> GET HER. >> LET ME OUT. >> ANY INJURIES? >> I'M GOOD. >> [laughter] >> YOU SLAPPED ME IN MY FACE WITH YOUR DOGS, YOU PIGS. >> GRACE, ARE YOU INJURED AT ALL? >> YES. >> All right. Can you call for medics? >> [laughter] >> All right, we'll call for medics. Wow, that escalated quite quickly. Yeah, she I mean in her defense, she gave them fair warning. She did. She gave them fair warning. She said she wasn't comfortable being touched by a man. He touched her and she freaked the [ __ ] out. But still, that was that was quite a bit dramatic there, honey. If you're thinking that you were just waiting for an opportunity to explode and that was an easy escalation to take, yeah, you No, this you look like you were over exaggerating just a little bit. >> You're You're hurting >> Stop. STOP. >> MY WRIST BACK. >> STOP. STOP. >> YOU'RE HURTING ME. YOU'RE GOING TO BRUISE ME. >> GRACE. >> STOP. >> He's going to adjust it. Stop moving. >> Stop. >> I got two grown men on top of me as IF I'M A CRIMINAL. YOU ARE HURTING ME. >> STOP. >> STOP. >> You good? >> I'm good. >> STOP. STOP MOVING. CALM DOWN. CALM [screaming] DOWN. CALM CALM DOWN. CALM DOWN. >> Calm down. >> You got my one cuff. >> Calm down. >> a freak. You can't adjust it IF YOU MOVE. >> WHEN YOU CALM DOWN WHEN YOU CALM DOWN, I CAN ADJUST IT. When you calm down I can adjust it. ALL RIGHT? STOP. >> [screaming] >> NORTH COUNTY 301 >> [laughter] >> FOR PSYCHE EVAL. OKAY, ARE YOU GOING TO CALM DOWN? Are you going to calm down? Are you going to calm down? It's a question. Are you going to calm down? Are you going to calm down? We're not going to get you up until we're comfortable that you can remain calm, okay? Okay. >> Okay. >> It's just fine. Still got a job to do. You good? Is that from her? >> I think that's from her. >> Okay. >> You bleeding anywhere? Yeah, she's got a cut on her face. >> On her face? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right, you're all right. >> All right. North County 301, we have medics en route? 10-4, you can advise for a psyche eval and a female subject bleeding from the face. And just document that there was a physical altercation with this subject. >> Who's calling me? Who's calling me? Who is calling me? Who is calling me? >> [laughter] >> Who is calling me? >> [laughter] [screaming] >> Grace, breathe. Grace. Breathe in through your nose and out your mouth, Grace. Calm down. We'll grab them. WE'LL GRAB THEM, OKAY? GRACE, BREATHE. TAKE A DEEP BREATH, GRACE. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> YOU GOT TO CALM DOWN, OKAY? YOU HAVE TO CALM DOWN. >> [laughter] >> STOP. STOP. STOP. You have everything, okay? OKAY. ALL RIGHT. >> [laughter] >> GRACE, YOU HAVE TO TRY TO CALM DOWN, OKAY? GRACE, TAKE A DEEP BREATH. >> [laughter] >> FOCUS on your breathing, all right? I know nothing. I'm having a busy day. Sorry you got to deal with this pettiness. You know what this That's what's What are we doing? >> She kind of sounds like me. >> [laughter] >> She Sorry you're having to deal with this kind of pettiness, officer. I know, it seems so silly. She is freaking the [ __ ] out. She is panicking. But, I mean, I can kind of understand why. I mean, she's literally twisted like a pretzel on the floor with two grown men sitting on top of her. She's probably hyperventilating. And if she has had, you know, some sort of negative history with men in that way, then, I mean, I can understand why she would kind of be freaking out. But, come on. Calm down. And then you can get your ass up off the floor. It's not a hard concept. They've been trying to coach you through it this entire time. >> Good job. >> Thank you. >> Can Can we Can we clear the door now? >> We're going to We're going to put you on a cot. You have to stand up, okay? When we stand you up, are you going to cooperate? >> Okay. We'll take care of it. We'll get her. >> Grace, we need your cooperation, okay? >> Grace, we're going to have to stand you up so we can sit you down. >> Grace, WHAT IS THIS HERE? LISTEN. LISTEN TO ME. WE'VE GOT TO PAY ATTENTION. YOU GOT TO LISTEN TO US. >> LIFT UP. LIFT UP. >> HELLO. HELLO, BERNIE. >> OKAY. >> OKAY, relax for one second. Just relax for one second, okay? Just relax. >> All right, can you walk over to the cot? >> We're going to get her. We're going to get her. We're going to get her. Just take a seat right here, okay? All right, can you stretch out your legs for me? Thank you. Okay, sit back. It's okay. Here, I'm going to borrow that leg really quick. >> Just relax. Just relax. >> Just relax. Just relax. Just relax. Just relax. A little bit. That's good. Here, let me just put these uh some straps for safety. We don't we don't have a woman >> All of this for shoplifting. She shoplifted. Like how many people have we seen get caught shoplifting that don't escalate to this kind of craziness? I didn't have to be this way is what I'm trying to say. >> Paramedic available right now, okay? Hey, what's your name? >> I need a girl. I need a girl. >> We don't have a female paramedic. >> I don't feel comfortable. >> Let's go. Lift >> So, where did who got struck where? >> Uh didn't really I I don't think I really got struck. >> kind of slammed me backwards. She pushed her legs out like I was going to hit the wall. >> I don't think she really struck me. >> Yeah. >> I'm just trying to see if we need to charge her. That's what I'm trying to >> Yeah. >> If anything, I'm I would think resisting. I >> She didn't yeah. >> That's all. >> All right. >> The woman was arrested and charged with felony theft, resisting arrest, and obstruction. >> You know what always makes it so hard to talk [ __ ] when, you know, they're saying, "Oh, I need a female. I can't deal with men that are touching me." Because I understand that some people do have something that's broken up here if they have a really bad experience with the opposite sex. I understand that. Don't make me say the words. You know what I'm trying to say. But nobody was being overly aggressive putting her on the stretcher. Obviously, they were being overly aggressive when they were handcuffing her and she was down on the ground, but it's because she was swinging on them. She was swinging on them. They did nothing even remotely close to assaulting her to warrant her swinging on them. So, of course they had to put her to the ground and then that just escalated the entire thing and my god, it was all because of shoplifting. Really? Shoplifting? It didn't have to be that way. That's probably the most frustrating part, but you know what? She tried to walk out the door with over a thousand dollars worth of stuff in a shopping cart. Consequences of your actions.
