There is a tiny little handprint. I can make out four fingers, a palm, and a thumb. For a six-year-old, it's a lot of blood, and it's very thick and very dark. You're the mom of Ariel. >> Yes. >> We want to make sure that he's safe and know where he is. Tell me where he's at. >> I don't have the address for him. >> Okay. How can we find the address for him? >> I don't know. I >> Did you put it in your phone? >> No. >> It's her. She's lying. She's got a blood spot on her shoes. Her car is parked like 20 blocks away. It could be in the trunk. So, if you guys don't like locate my son, what's going to happen? >> What's the last conversation you have with Ariel today? >> We're going to stay here and mommy's going to go. >> The following presentation contains material that some viewers may find disturbing. The case files and recordings shown here were obtained through official Freedom of Information Act requests submitted directly to the police department and may include previously unseen footage. Viewer discretion is advised. On the morning of March 27th, 2024, officers from the Everett Police Department received a disturbing call about a missing child. The caller explained that his 27-year-old sister, Janet, had been staying at an apartment on Vesper Drive with her 4-year-old son. The apartment belonged to the mother of Janet's ex-boyfriend, who had left for work around 8:00 a.m., leaving Janet and the child alone inside. But when she returned home in the afternoon, something was clearly wrong. At the center of the apartment was a large blood stain, and both Janet and her son were absent. Alarmed and panicked, the homeowner contacted her brother, who immediately called the police. >> How's it going, boss? >> My name's Austin, every police. Just got to let you know you mean you're being audio recorder. What's going on? >> Uh, well, my sister, I mean, she's been on the loose. I guess he's been doing whatever. Um my mom's been trying to fight for uh for the guardianship I guess or the custody whatever's going on >> and um well she's been admission for a couple days and um we got one >> uh we picked him up from school and uh I guess my mom has a restraining order against her so she can't go pick up the son cuz she's really bad. >> Okay. >> And then but she had another son. His name is Ariel >> and uh he was staying here. >> Uh I guess her apartment night. No, it's not >> friend apartment. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Well, it's a ex boyfriend's mom, if that makes sense. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, she stayed here. Uh the lady had left to work and then uh whenever she came back to work, she saw a big old spot of blood. Would you like to see the picture? >> Sure. Sure. What's your uh sister's name? >> Janet. And then uh well that's the blood that was in her living room. What she showed me and then um well >> she said this was from her kid or something. >> Yeah, that's what she said. She said it was from the kid. She said that. >> So Janet said that. >> No. Well, she told her. Yeah. She sent her a message cuz she was worried about the kid. >> So she kept saying her message and she wouldn't answer. And then as she answered uh she answered one time she said that her kid fell and that she took him to the hospital. So I don't I don't know. We can't get a hold of her at the moment. >> Uhhuh. >> I got no clue honestly. But yeah, I'm sorry. I'm just real nervous. I hope everything >> you're fine. Have you knocked on the door today? >> The kid's not there. >> No. >> And so this was yesterday that they saw the blood? >> I guess the blood happened earlier today. >> Earlier today. and they've been gone since. So, >> hello. >> How would she have gotten to the hospital? Is this mom? >> Yeah, this >> my uh >> Yeah. Uh she would have driven. She has a car. >> Okay. What uh kind of car is it? >> Uh Nissan Auto. >> Is it registered driven? >> Yeah. >> So, what time was the last time someone's heard from your sister? >> Uh did you talk to her? >> Uh your mom said that she talked to her yesterday at around 5. >> Around 5. >> Today the Nate >> texted her. I'm not sure what time it is up, but I'm pretty sure it was today. >> Okay. And then she replied saying, "That's from my kid. He fell. I took him to the hospital." >> Yeah. >> Here it is. Um, >> has anyone confirmed that she's at the hospital? >> Uh, yes. Her >> Yeah, their sister called the hospital probably all the hospitals around their area and they have no record. [clears throat] >> So, sometimes they won't tell you, right? >> Cuz like uh patient confidentiality >> we pulled in there. >> Yeah. How well do we know the neighbor or this person? um that she doesn't know them very well, but the the lady's son was her boyfriend previously in a couple years ago and she lives here a couple years ago was her boyfriend. >> Unit six or whatever. >> Unit four. >> Do have you knocked at her? >> Yeah. >> Are they home? Uh this next time 24 will be checking unit 4. >> So her phone goes straight to voicemail. Have you guys tried calling her at all today? >> Yeah, she's um I guess she's at rehab in Vancouver, but they say that her son's not with her. So we >> Oh, Janet's in rehab right now, >> I guess. So, I guess she turned herself in today. >> She checked in. >> Yeah. Today. >> Today? >> Yeah. I'm I'm confused as you are, honestly. But they said that the kids not with her. >> Yeah. Well, they went >> Hello. So, in Vancouver, like Washington. >> Well, Vancouver, Washington. And >> do you guys confirm that that she's down there? >> Yeah, she called. She called like 10 minutes ago. >> She called mom. >> Yeah. No. Uh my mom called the the people at that place. Yeah. >> Okay. Did his mom have a name for the rehab place? >> Yeah. >> The fact that the child was bleeding this heavily yet Janet supposedly managed to take him to the hospital and then checked herself into rehab just didn't add up. The officer sensed that something more sinister might be at play and obtained the rehab facility's number from Janet's mother. He went on to place a call to verify her story, but instead of clarity, it only added another layer of doubt to the case. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Yeah. >> Who am I speaking to? Sorry. >> Uh, are you speaking with Antonio? >> Antonio? Antonio, do you work for the this company? >> It's not it's it's a program a recovery program. >> A recovery program. Okay. >> Yeah. >> My name's Officer Le with Everett Police Department. Okay. >> I'm not sure if you're aware, but I'm looking for maybe someone that might have checked themselves in yesterday or today. >> Okay. >> Uh Lassa Garcia, first of Janet. Are you aware of this person? >> Uh I'm not. >> Okay. Uh are you an employee? >> I'm not an employee. I'm just >> How you saying? Well, I'm just one of one of the few of of here that are just um >> just helping out. >> Yeah, I'm a patient. Yeah, just helping out. >> Okay. Uh can you ask maybe an employee to see if Janet's there? It's kind of important. >> Yeah. Give me a minute. >> Sorry. Can you repeat that? >> Yeah. Uh, so, uh, the guy that's in charge around around here, he's not here right now. Uh, he'll be here a little bit later. I don't know if you want to give a call back. >> Okay. How how how long is a little later? There's >> like around like seven. >> So, there's no employees right now. >> No. >> Okay. Okay. Uh, I'll try try again in a bit. >> Yeah. So, okay. So, I tried calling that number. It comes back to group O or whatever, which is rehab, >> but they don't have an employee there that could confirm that your sister's there. So, did your mom confirm that she's down there? >> Yeah. >> So, she checked herself in today. >> Exactly. >> With no kid. >> Yeah. With no kid. >> Did she have a reasoning for why the kid's missing? >> I don't. >> What's this about her saying that she put him up for adoption or something? >> Yeah, that's another one I get. >> She can put me on speaker. Yeah, >> you can put me on speaker. >> My daddy, my >> Hi, my name is Daisy. I live in Los Angeles and I've been trying to communicate back and forth. She only answers to me. >> And when I called her, I asked her, "Where are the kids?" And she's like, "I don't know where my kids are. I don't know. I don't know." And I told her, "Listen, I'll get the next flight out. I'll go pick up both of the kids. You know, I'm going to take care of them. They can be with their cousins >> and this and this and that." And she literally told me that, "Well, I already signed paperwork for adoption. That kid's going to go up for adoption." And um >> she's talking about Ariel. >> Oh, she's talking about Ariel because I had already told her that is with my mom. And she's like, "And and he'll be better off that way. Um it's just better for him. I'm no good." And all of this stuff. And she wouldn't give me the information. The only thing she told me >> was >> he's staying with a lady that I was staying at. >> Okay. Is she talking about this person at the apartment that we're at? >> That's what we're we're assuming >> because when my brother went um she confirmed that Janette was there with him, >> right? But that was as [cough] today was when the the fall happened. I'm just trying to figure out the timeline of everything. Um and I know you're in LA so you might not know as as much as everyone else here. Okay. Um, okay. Uh, we're just going to do some >> called her and she had confirmed that she was checked into a location which is a couple hours away and she's by herself. >> My concern is that she's so she has times where she's so jumped out that we are concerned that either she's in danger with her in the car or he's there with her. But we don't know because she's been kind of acting crazy. Um, >> yeah, this rehab facility doesn't seem too squared away because I Googled the number and it comes back to like a pretty basic >> uh she employees. >> The number the numbers that they have associated to this location doesn't they don't have like a home line. Yeah, >> I had I had originally told her from the first time she ever went in that this facility doesn't seem legit because she had went in and she was in there for a whole year and when she came back out, she came back out worse than what she was when she went in. >> Yeah. The the person I talked to wasn't even an employee and they couldn't get they couldn't find an employee. So, >> do you can you ask your mom if she has an address for this place >> to where she where she is? >> Yeah. In Vancouver. Oh, >> yeah. Okay. Can I get that? >> Can you show him the picture of the the blood? >> Yeah. Can I see it? >> It shows you what time I took it as well. It's 3:59 today. >> Today. Yeah. >> And it was still wet. >> Yeah. Yeah. When I seen it, Yeah. it was still wet. So, I [music] don't know. I'm not I don't know how typically it's it should happen very recently, right? >> Right. Yeah, it would it would have been uh but and then how big >> how big would you say that is? Like >> uh if I could do it with my hands, um say about that big. >> About that big. >> About that big. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And then I see fingerprints or handprints. Did you get a look at how big the hands were that were in it? >> No, that was a good one that I should have done. You're right. Yeah. But no, I did not. >> Okay, no worries. Um, and then the lady in there left already. >> Well, when I was Oh, you know what? I think I think that's her right there. >> That's her right there. >> Okay, >> cool. I'll talk to her. Thank you. >> Uh, she only speaks Spanish, so I can >> You can translate for me. Thank you. >> Is she okay with us? Yeah. >> Okay. Is she okay if I come in? >> So, what what would the kid have hit? >> That's what I'm I don't see blood anywhere on anything. >> Maybe this that's >> Yeah. And it's like it's gelatinizing too, which is concerning. >> Yeah. It's like deep It's either organ blood or deep blood. You know what I mean? So, we got blanket on this some or blood on this. I'm assuming we're going to take this. >> The inside of the apartment told a very different story than the one Janet had been giving. There was no blood on the sink, no signs of cleanup, and no bandages in the trash that would suggest she had ever tried to help the child. Investigators also could not find any object in the apartment that could explain how the boy had been injured in the first place. With more questions than answers, officers began to fear that the child may have been seriously hurt or even dead. They started collecting DNA evidence and moved quickly to issue an Amber Alert. >> Hey, did someone ask what kind of what kind of does she use? >> Uh, >> do you know? >> As of what I know? >> Yeah. She smoke it. >> Snorts it. >> Snorts it. >> Yeah. >> Any like crazy like statements from her about hurting herself, other people? >> Um, not too long ago, she shaved off part of her head. Um, she said I don't know the real reasoning cuz I don't live with them, >> but uh she said um she was going to cut her veins and then she shaked her. >> Okay. >> I don't know. Uh any words of like paranoia? >> No. >> Yeah. >> Like like what kind of stuff? Like she thinks like people are out to get her. >> Yeah, people are out to get her. >> Okay. >> Uh I haven't spoken to her. >> Sounds like you kind of just got roped into this to help out type thing. >> Yeah. I haven't spoken to her in about a year. I got my own family. I got my kids. I got lady. We stay in Mary'sville. But um I know that my parents have called the cops on her numerous of times. >> Mhm. >> But the cops don't do anything. Well, it's not that they don't do anything. It's just that they can't I guess, >> right? >> Yeah. Um Yeah. It's been numerous reports, I believe. >> Um Yeah. >> Okay. >> Well, we're going to do everything we can today for sure. Okay. I can't speak for everybody, but >> So, uh Grandma has got uh temporary custody paperwork. Yeah, they showed it to me. It looked like it was filed yesterday. It's like civil paperwork from the courthouse saying she's to take temporary guardianship of the children. >> Okay. >> Um mom, I guess he's saying, is >> extremely par like paranoia like meth. >> Yeah, I saw some of her history and it looked like a lot of heavy >> substance and mental health. U do we know CPS is involved? >> Uh I'm not too sure about that. Is it her son that was ex-boyfriend? >> Yeah, her son. >> Is that the father of the child too? No. >> No. >> Uh they were together. She was with somebody else. Had a baby with somebody else. And >> Do we have any information on on that? Uh the father of the child of Ariel? >> He's in prison. >> He's in prison. >> Yeah. >> Um and then can you ask her if son was here at all? >> Ariel? >> No. No. Her son >> um her son um >> lived somewhere else. Yes. >> Okay. >> Can you just make sure that he doesn't have a key, too? Just ask. I just want to make sure he didn't stop by or something to visit her or >> uh >> No. Does he have a key? >> Yeah. >> But he doesn't have any contact with Janet. >> Uh from what I know. >> Okay. Is she not allowed to have the kid? >> Well, the the paper was filed for like temporary guardianship to mom like yesterday, but she didn't have like knowledge of this, but she just knows that there's a custody battle going between her and her mom. >> So, grandma >> has filed for it. >> Has it been approved? >> It looked like it was filed and it showed it to me. I can ask for it again. The fact that Janet's own mom had filed for the custody of both kids was a red flag. According to the family, Janet was physically and verbally abusive towards her children. She had choked her older son and pushed him down the stairs, hurting her head. With Janet's substance history, the police started checking whether child protective services had ever been involved with her in the past. At the same time, one of the officers finally managed to connect with Janet. She called her mother's phone and this time the officer was the one who picked up. >> Hello. Is this Janet? >> This is her speaking. >> Hey Janet, this officer lay with Ever Please. I just want to confirm I'm talking to Janet. >> This is her. >> Yeah, you're the mom of Ariel. >> Yes. And I want to know does my mom with her? >> So is safe. We're trying to figure out where you and Ariel are. >> There's a lot of concerned people out here. >> Okay, no worries. Uh my son, he is with someone else that's taking care of him. I came to a alcoholic's place so I can get help. Um but if you guys don't believe me or you don't know anything, then I guess you guys can come to the place that I'm at. >> Okay. Where are you at, Daniel? >> Alcoholics Anonymous in Vancouver. >> Do you have an address? >> Um I don't have an address. >> Okay. So you don't know where you are? >> No. >> Okay. Uh, where's your son? >> He's not with me. >> Okay. Who is he staying with? >> He's staying with someone else and I can't give you information because I just I can't give you his information. >> Janet, that you see how that's concerning to the police? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, why can't you just give us his where he's at? >> Because I don't know where he's at. >> Okay. Do you have a name of the person that he's staying with? Um, Alicia. >> Alicia. What? >> Alicia. Um, >> Alicia. >> Yes. >> Can you spell Alicia for me? >> Uh, A L I C A. And then last name. >> Do you know her date of birth? >> No, I don't know her date of birth. Do you know where she lives and where you dropped him off? >> No. >> Did you drop him off or did someone else drop him off? >> Oh, I dropped him off. Yes. >> So, where did you drop him off, Janet? >> In Portland. >> So, he's in Portland, Oregon. >> Mhm. Or I'm sorry, in Seattle. >> In Seattle? >> Yes. >> Do you remember where in Seattle? >> No, I don't remember. You don't remember what street or? >> No. >> Is Alicia a friend and you trust her with her son? >> She's she's a friend. Yes. >> Okay. And she's taking your son and just taking care of her taking care of him or >> So she So she's watching my son while I come get help. I'm again >> Why wouldn't you drop him off with with your mom? >> Because she wasn't answering me at all. I was knocking on the door and she wasn't answering me at all. Um, so that's why. >> Okay. And that was today around what time did you drop >> off? Yeah, that was today when I dropped him off. >> Okay. What time did you drop him off? >> Um, at 12. >> So around noon. >> Yeah, around noon. >> Okay. And then do you understand that looks like he might have had a fall or something? >> Yes, he hurt himself. We um made it to the doctors. >> Huh? >> What doctor did you make it to? >> Um we went to the Swedish, but then we left. And then >> What time did you get to Swedish? >> Huh? >> What time did you guys get to Swedish? >> I don't remember. >> Is that in the morning? So before noon, right? in the morning. >> Okay. And >> yeah, >> how did what how did he get that injury? >> He accidentally fell from the bed to the ground. >> Okay. And And was it to his head? His >> It was his head. >> His head. >> Yes. >> Okay. Canon, you wouldn't lie to me, would you? >> No, I wouldn't. >> Okay. So, we just have to confirm that your son is okay. >> He's okay. >> Okay. Do you have a phone number for Alicia? >> Um, I do have her contact phone number, but I'd rather not give it to you guys. >> Why is that? >> Um, here. I can I can give it to you. >> Okay. Thank you. >> If she doesn't answer you guys, it's because she she only like she uses her But um she's probably busy. >> Okay. And I just want to confirm it's a L I C A >> and then like >> Yeah. >> Okay. And what's your phone number? >> Um it's um Yes. >> Does she have a second number or someone else she's hanging out with that I can try? >> Know her husband's information. >> Okay. Do they live in a house? What neighborhood do they live in? An apartment? >> They live in a home. >> Okay. So, they live in a home. Do you And you don't have an address? >> But he's >> Sorry, Janet. You cut off. >> Hello, Janet. like >> you cut you cut off. Sorry. >> I said he's fine. I can go to the courthouse and get like legal custody of them because I know that this is a problem between me and my mom that we always have. >> And she didn't want to let me in the house like at all. Like she doesn't want to let me in the house. So >> well Jan Janet >> Hello. >> And now I'm somewhere where I'm getting help and I don't know what else to tell you. Sorry, you you kind of cut off there. >> So, that's basically it. >> Okay. So, I don't care about the civil paperwork or anything like that, right? Like you said, that's just something that you guys are going to have to work out with your bum. Okay. My concern here is just making sure that he's okay. He's okay. >> Okay. So, I need you to be forthcoming with me and give me an address or something so I can just send someone out there to make sure he's okay. Because right now, we're assuming that he's not. >> Right now, we're assuming that he's not okay. >> And you and and if you don't and you're not completely forthcoming, which right now you're not because you know where he's at and you're not telling us, right? That can be an issue for you in the future when you go to court. >> Do you understand that? Okay. So, are you going to tell me where he's at? >> No neighborhood, nothing like that. >> Janet, it's it's extremely concerning that you're not being forthcoming. >> Janet's incomplete call left more questions than answers. The officer continued trying to reach her and meanwhile made contact with deputies at Clark's County Sheriff's Office. >> Hey, it's Officer Leva, please. How's it going? >> Hey, appreciate you guys uh looking out for looking at this. Uh you guys are out with Janet. >> No, we got an unwanted call at the rehab facility. They said she's there, but that she doesn't have a kid. Um they're calling her wanted. So, I've got a deputy sitting out front. But before we go confront her, just need to know what's going on. Okay. >> Yeah. So, story goes uh she's an addict. Um snorts and uses lots of uh so she's baseline paranoia like schizophrenic sees uh visions and hallucinations and things like that. Um she's uh has two sons. uh her mom, their grandma, is in the process of getting like guardianship uh of them uh due to her behavior and the fact that she keeps relapsing. Um so they have the older son, the uh younger son, the four-year-old Ariel is still missing. The last time anyone's seen them was that her and Ariel were staying over at a ex-boyfriend's mom's house. It's an apartment. Um they stayed the night uh because she has nowhere to to go. So this nice uh mom let them stay here and like sleep on the couch. Uh mom wakes up in the morning uh leaves for work at 8. Uh comes back and sees like a pool of blood on her carpet like right by the door. Um she asks she texts uh Janet like, "Hey, what's what's this?" Uh she goes, "Oh, that's from uh Ariel falling. Don't worry, I got him in the hospital. Um, no one has seen or heard from her pretty much since. She keeps saying that she's checking herself into AA. Um, I was able to get her on the phone for a brief moment. She's saying uh she's checking herself in to a facility and she dropped she dropped off her son at a friend's place. Doesn't want to give us an address. Uh gave us a name that's probably fake. Phone number doesn't dial to anything. Uh she originally said she dropped him off in Portland, Oregon. And then she's like, "Wait, I dropped him off in Seattle, um, but won't give us an area, anything like that." And she says this is all because of the custody battle between her and her mom. Um, but she asked us if uh her her older son was okay. Um, so uh I think at this point, if you guys contact her, I think we have enough to like detain her until we figure out where her son is. Um um so the facility call saying that she's trying to check herself in >> I don't know. So >> I didn't talk to them first. I'm just getting from the deputy. >> The blood and then she doesn't have the kid and they don't know where her car is at. >> Okay. Um, which is weird because the facility is kind of in a rural area and it's not like you would just shop on foot. >> Yeah. Okay. So, the I mean I tried to look up the number for this facility and it's like groupupo or something. It's like maybe like Hispanic recovery center but nothing. Um, family says every time she goes there she gets worse. So, I don't know how uh you know how kosher this facility is. The Japanese said he's been there a couple times and this was kind of several times. >> Okay, that would that would make sense cuz I called in, they're Spanish speaking and they found the one patient that spoke English and he's like, I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm just a patient and none of the employees are here currently. So, so yeah, that's the information we have right now. Uh, we're we're working on emergency ping for her phone and an Amber alert, a statewide Amber Alert for us. just cuz we have no idea where this kid is. >> With Janet's whereabouts in their knowledge, officers at Everett and Clark's County make a mutual decision to locate and detain her without wasting any more time. >> Hi, Janet. >> Hey. >> Hey, Sergeant Beck with the Sheriff's Office. Hey, before I talk to you, do you have any knives, weapons, anything like that on you? >> No. >> Okay. Um, would you mind if we just pat you down real quick? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Can you sure? Nothing on you. >> No. >> Could you guys give us some privacy? >> Thank you. >> Hey, so >> yeah. Hey, thank you. >> Um, we'll catch up after this. >> Thank you. >> Mhm. >> So, do you know why we're here? >> Are you okay if I open the zipper? >> Why? >> Why are you guys here? >> What's going on today? >> Can I open the zipper? Just checking. Thank you. I just want to make sure before >> what's going on today with you and like sounds like the cops have been talking to you already. >> Yeah. >> So my um so I you got some blood drops on your shoes. >> Yeah. >> So my son fell this morning earlier. >> Oh no. >> Yeah. But I was able to take him to the doctors and everything was okay. I took him to with another lady so she can watch him for me cuz I was I wasn't staying at home. I had problems going on with my parents and they didn't let me in the house. So I um I was staying with another lady. She was super sweet. That's where my son fell. And then but but we left so I was like okay, you know. Um so I went to another lady's house and I told her if she could watch him for me I wanted to come get, you know, I wanted to to fully recover. I'm an alcoholic. So um I was like if you can watch them for me for 12 months that'd be amazing because I'm not talking to my mom and she's the one that has like just like a notorized paper saying that she has legal custody of them. But I have legal custody of them. She's not letting me see my older son. So I'm >> That would be really hard. >> Yeah, I'm a little bit upset about that one. So I'm here now and everything's okay. >> So I don't know what else. >> Well, we obviously we just we want to make sure that he's safe and know where he is. Who's the friend that you left it with? >> Um I left him with another lady. I don't have her information. >> Oh, well that's that's not going to cut it. We got to figure out where he's at. Where can you like tell me the location where somebody could go and check on him and make sure he's okay? >> In se um like SeaTac area. >> Okay. >> Seattle. >> More specific. >> I don't have address. >> Nothing. >> Who's the friend? How do you know the person that How did you pick the person? >> She's a longtime friend that I know. >> Okay. What's her name? >> Um Alikica. That's all I know. Alika. >> Alika. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And you've known her >> or anything? >> Okay. But you've known her for a long time. So, how did you reach out to her? >> So, I reached out to her um because I I needed help. >> How did you reach out to her? >> Um I found her number on my old Facebook, but I no longer have a Facebook anymore. >> Okay. >> So, something you signed back into and >> No. >> No. You deleted all >> I delete it all the time. So, >> yeah. You found it today on your old Facebook. >> And her name is Alik. >> Alika. >> Alika. Like >> Okay. And she lives in the Sea Tag area. So you drove him from the first house you were at to her house or the doctor first. What doctor did you take? >> Swedish. >> Swedish. And that's it. >> Swedish where? >> Or I think it's Providence actually. Providence in Everett. >> In Everett. Providence. >> You understand? We're just make sure that he's okay in there. >> Yep. >> Well, you just do that and we'll we can leave you be, you know. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, how do we find Alica? >> I don't know. Can you describe to me how you got there? From Providence. >> So, I just drove from there to Seattle and then that's >> You drove from Providence to Seattle >> to Alica's house? >> Yes. >> Okay. Um, did you drive on the freeway or >> Mhm. >> Okay. Um, how how long for >> like 2 hours? >> 2 hours. And what car were you driving? >> My car. So, just like 1 hour or so. >> And what kind of car do you have? Um, I have a Nissan. >> Okay. Where's that car now? >> I don't have it with me. >> Okay. So, >> where's it at? >> Um, I left it at her house and then I came over here on the bus. >> Okay. >> You left it up at SeaTac. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Okay. What? Um, do you remember what exit you took? >> I don't know. >> Um, okay. So, just to clarify, you go from Everett to the hospital in Everett. You get him checked out. You drive to your friend in SeaTax. You leave the car there. You leave him there. And you take a bus from SeaTac down here. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And that all happened today? >> Yes. >> Is that pretty expensive ticket to get a CRA bus to come down here? >> No, actually it was only like 30 bucks. >> Oh, really? Yeah. >> That's not bad. >> What's your first name again? >> Janette. Janette. Okay, Janette, you're not you're not >> lying. >> You have a long time friend that you reach out to to leave your son who you obviously care about very much. >> I love him with all my heart. >> And you're expressing how upset you are about what's going on between you and your mom and the custody of him and your older son. >> That's horrible. So, I know that you're not going to go leave your son with somebody and you don't know where he is. >> Yeah. No. So, you do know where he is? >> No, I know where he is. I know where he's at. >> Tell me where he's at. >> I don't have the address for him. >> Okay. How can we find the address for him? >> I don't know. I >> Did you put it in your phone? >> No. >> To get there? >> Okay. Alica, you know where your son is because you're a mom who loves her son very much and you didn't >> I'm not Alica. I'm Janette. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah. >> You took him somewhere and you're going to go back to him and you know where he is. So tell me where he's at so we can make sure that he's okay or what's going on. >> So he's not I mean he's there he's with her but >> Tell me how to go check on him. >> I can give you an address. >> Okay. What's the address? >> I don't know. You have to write it down. >> Okay, I can do that. >> Thank you. >> Do you have a phone number for it too? >> Um I don't. >> Okay. I don't have a phone number for her. But >> when he fell, where did he get hurt? >> Just he on his head, but he fell on the ground and he hurt himself. >> Heads are the worst, dude. >> Yeah. I'm just trying to find I don't even >> How old is your son? >> He is five. So I don't know if this is the right one. And Seattle, Washington. So 57 >> 57 >> 01 >> Yep. >> 23 2 I mean 232nd Avenue, Seattle, Washington. >> Where did you get that address from just now? >> From the top of my head. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So that's where you remember leaving him. >> So yeah, Alikica. That's her name. >> 5701. Yeah. >> 5701. >> Okay. Perfect. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's Alikica. >> Mhm. >> How do you spell that? >> A L I C A. >> Okay. Um, last name is >> Yeah. >> Uhhuh. So, and and if you guys can't find him or whatever, this is where I'm going to be for the next 12 months. >> But, I mean, he's there. >> How did you guys discuss that you're going to you're obviously going to communicate with him still? You want to check on him and all that. How are you guys going to communicate? >> Well, I'm not I'm not going to have my I'm not going to use my phone cuz I'm going to be here for the next 12 months. >> Okay. >> Um, so if anything, I don't know what else. Okay. You didn't discuss that with Alikica before you left? >> I I Yes, I discussed it with her. I'm going to be here for 12 months and then um and then but before that um like I don't speak to my parents or anything like that because we got into an altercation. So, but this is where I this is where I'm going to be. >> Okay. >> You can um give him that address. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. It's her she's got a blood spot on her shoes. Her car is parked like 20 blocks away. Yeah. So, she's she's telling she's lying. She's telling us that the car is up in SeaTac where she dropped her son off. She's claiming that she took her son to the Providence Hospital in Everett and got him seen by a doctor and then drove down to her friend's house in SeaTac and then left the car and her son there and took the bus from there here, which you can't do. So, um there's somebody with her car now looking through the window. So, it doesn't look like he's in it, but he I mean, he could be in the trunk and there might be blood in the car. >> Good. Well, I hope I just want to um figure out where your son is. Obviously, there was some concerns >> and once we can do that, um his injury was pretty bad. Yeah. Was there quite a bit of blood and stuff. What did he do? >> He jumped from the from the bed that we were sleeping on to the ground and then he just got blood on his head and so I had him take him to the doctor and so he's doing good. >> Okay. >> Okay. How did what did he hit it on? >> Just on the ground. >> Okay. How did it start bleeding? Just >> It just started bleeding. >> Can you show me like what side of his head? Do you remember what side of his head it was? >> Um I don't remember exactly what side of the head it was, but what time did it occur today? >> It's like early, like at 10, 11. >> 10 or 11. Okay. Do you know what time it is now? >> It's already 6:30 or about to be 7:00. >> So, how long were you guys at the hospital? >> We were only there for a little bit. He I don't even think he got check. We got there and um but we didn't he didn't I didn't wait enough for him to get checked out. So >> So he didn't actually go back and get checked. >> Gotcha. Did you actually go inside and check him in? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> And then did you tell him you were leaving or did >> You did. >> Okay. You just said he's not going to be seen and left. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How was he acting? >> He's okay. >> Yeah. >> What happened to him when he fell? >> Nothing. He just cried. >> Just cried. Just >> just like, you know, just >> Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. Do you want to sit down? I can put you just I can leave the door open. You can sit right there. So you're out of >> Just so you don't get wet. >> Um when he fell down, what what made you think he needed to go to the hospital? Sorry. >> Because he was bleeding from his head. That's why. >> Yeah. >> That's a legit reason. >> Do you know how long you were at the hospital for? >> Um I was only there for a little bit of time. Again, I didn't want to wait. So, I was like, "Let's go." >> Mhm. >> Can you describe to me what that Providence looks like? Do you know what road it's on or what is um Did you park in the emergency room parking lot or >> Mm- I don't remember. I don't know. >> Or was there a parking garage or anything? >> I don't remember at the top of my head. >> Okay. Do you remember when you walked in? Like, can you describe to me when you walked in what it looked like? >> It just the hospital. Just the hospital. >> Okay. But can you describe like when you walk in the door? Where was the check-in? >> In the front like the I walked in as soon as I walked in the front desk was checked in right there and I just I said my son had to be seen for something and then I just his name and everything. >> Okay. >> You're going like this. So you wrote it down or was there like a check-in thing or >> There was a check but I think they checked me in. Not >> Yeah. >> So you didn't write anything on there. >> Okay. Have you been there before? >> No. >> No. Oh, that was your first time. >> That was my first time. >> When you checked into the desk, was it just an open desk or >> just an open desk? >> Was it behind a like a Did they have like a glass wall or >> just an open desk? >> Okay. Was there a lot of people in there? >> Yeah. That's why you didn't want to wait cuz it was too long. Do you think he needed stitches or anything? >> No, he's fine. >> Okay. You didn't remember where his injury was? >> Mm-m. >> Is it front, side, back? Do you remember? >> It's the side. It was the side. Definitely one of the sides that you recall >> the front. Yeah. >> Okay. Front. You're kind of pointing above the eyebrow. >> Okay. All right. And then you contacted your friend through Facebook. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Or I got her information through Facebook. >> Oh, okay. >> And then what information did you get? >> Um, just her number and then I went to her house and dropped off my kid there and then now I'm here. >> Okay. You got like her phone number? >> Okay. And did you call her from your phone? >> Um, from my phone. >> Okay. The one that's in your purse there you called her from. Okay. >> I think I erased it though, but I have her number. I don't know if you guys want to call her, but I don't think she's going to answer anymore. >> It says California the six. >> Yes. Mhm. That's um her number. Her number. >> Uhhuh. I again I don't think she's going to or I don't think she's going to answer. >> How come? What makes you think that? >> Because I don't know if she's still going to be there. >> Up until this point, Janet managed to hold on to her story. But the moment the officers began asking about her son, about who he was, and what he was like as a child, her composure started to slip. >> When did your son's birthday? >> On my my son's birthday, >> January just passed. Uh >> Oh, so did he just turn five? >> We Yeah, [music] he just turned five. We didn't get to do anything, but >> No, >> we had fun. >> We had fun. He's an amazing baby. >> Yeah. >> What's he like? What's he like doing? Nothing. He just He's a really good kid. >> Yeah. He started school yet? Is he about kindergarten? >> He's supposed to be in kindergarten. >> Yeah. Is he supposed to He was supposed to start this year or didn't start or >> He was supposed to start in August. Oh, >> okay. >> But I was busy with like so much and >> Yeah. Was that when you were down here? Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. He deserves so much better. >> Uh, you know, he'll get there. >> Yeah. >> So, if you guys don't like locate my son, what's going to happen? >> That's what we're working on at the moment. >> Why Why do you think they won't be able to locate him? I mean, you got the address to where he can be. >> Because like I'm I don't know. I'm just saying if you guys are not able to find him, like what's what can happen? What's looking like what it's looking like right now is that we're going to need to stay with you until we find him because it sounds like you said you know where he is. You know where you left him, >> right? >> So, it shouldn't be an issue, right? >> Should be able to locate him. >> Okay. So, that's what we just need to stay with you until >> until we locate him. >> Okay. >> Um I have another favor though to ask. >> Yes. >> Because it's raining and it's cold and I'm shivering >> and we're going to be with you I think for a little bit. Are you listening to me? >> Yes. >> We're going to be with you for a little bit. Would you mind we have a precinct right at the road. It's comfortable and dry that we can all sit in so we can chat. Um so we're all out of the rain. Would that be okay? >> Where is it? >> It's right there by the fairy grounds. >> Yeah. Just on 179 and then we can give you a ride back and all of that if that's okay. >> Can I Can I get a coffee from here before we go? >> We got coffee there. >> We have coffee. >> Yeah. Oh yeah, we got coffee. >> Can you grab that seat belt around your back side? This >> this one. >> And then the only other thing too when he travels I just got to put your purse in the front seat right there. Yeah, he's not going to get into it, but we don't like we don't like bags where we can't see them and sit here. No worries. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, no worries. >> Roll's going to make us go by. >> Okay, then that way we can all be dry and comfortable and sit and you can get some coffee. >> You're welcome. >> Yay. Thank you. I appreciate it. >> Absolutely. >> As Janet was being transported to the precinct, one of the officers stayed behind to speak with the rehab employees. and what they had told made it increasingly clear that the officer's suspicions might actually be true and the child may be in serious danger. >> So, we're we're meeting right now. >> Okay. >> Can you We just send them to another I I need everybody out of here. There's no there's no like if and >> um we're investigating a crime right now and because And because she's been in here, >> I need everybody out. Okay. >> Okay. Please. >> Okay. Let me just tell the coordinator real quick and >> I'm going to come with you. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Uh we're going to have to move everybody out of here. Out of this building. You guys are welcome to be over there. Um but we have to get everybody out of this building here. I apologize. I'm sorry. >> Sorry. >> Can I chat with you guys for a minute? Is that okay? >> Sure. Do you know the female? No. >> That left here. Okay. Were you here when she showed up here today? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I will be honest with you. Yes. >> What's That's fine. >> I'm not accusing you of anything. >> No. No. No. I was just saying I'm going to be honest. >> Yeah. Did you chat with her or anything? >> Uh, no. She She's off. You can tell me. >> Yeah. >> Cuz I'm the first time you've seen her here or Okay. Do you know her name or anything? >> Janet. >> Yeah, I know her. >> You know her? >> Yeah. >> But do you you don't know her? Okay. >> No. And did you chat with her here today? >> Just once. Just for like a few seconds. That's it. >> Did you guys chat about anything? >> Nothing. Just like she's been here before or some like that. >> Okay. So, >> nothing >> nothing too crazy. >> Strange or anything like that? >> You know her? So, I do. >> Um, did you chat with her today or anything? >> Just when I pulled up, I saw her and I said, "What are you doing back?" And she said she's trying to >> get sober again. She cut her hair like Britney Spears. She had really long hair. >> Oh, she used to have really long hair. Oh yeah. And then she just kind of looked washed up, you know. I said, "Well, you know, be good and listen." That's what I told her. >> When's the last time you are probably in the fall? Last fall. She was here. >> She's been here like four or five times. >> You know, she's just >> But not since like last fall. >> No. >> Okay. >> Mm-m. >> And are you you kind of are like an employee here? So, are you you deal with people here? Yeah. Um, >> so you haven't seen her since like last fall. You said her hair is different. Do you guys talk today at all besides You said she said she's back and >> Yeah, that's it. When I pulled up, I I didn't even get out of my car. Just little chitchat and then she went and sat down there and I started the meeting and that was it. >> Was she out here when you pulled up? >> Yeah, she was out here. I don't know how she showed up. You said that she might have took an Uber or something. >> Yeah, cuz she >> she has she has a blue car like some kind of Hyundai car, but >> Oh, okay. >> Oh, yeah. She came walking up and then they came and then she hid. So, >> but you didn't see no car drop her off earlier. >> Uh, no, she got dropped off up there. >> When you say they, you mean us? >> Yeah, they came earlier. >> Okay. You saw her? Oh, yeah. Yeah. When they were up here earlier, she hid from them. >> Hell yeah. >> Okay. Where was she hiding? >> Huh? >> Where was she? Hide. >> She hid. >> Yeah, she like hid. She like hid right like she was standing and then she disappeared. >> Did you see her get dropped off in a car? >> She got dropped off up there. >> But did you see her? >> Did you see it? >> I know it was a Uber. >> They were like, "She drove." I said, "No, she didn't. She got dropped off in the Uber. Somebody dropped You saw You saw her get out of the car? >> I saw her get dropped off right there by the uh >> by the metal. >> Metal? >> Yeah. >> But what kind of car? >> Uh it was a It could be It's a Toyota or a Honda. >> What color was it? >> It was black. >> Black one. >> It's a black car. >> You're positive you saw her get dropped off? >> 100% positive she got dropped off in the black car, but I didn't think she was coming here until I walked in there and I said, "Oh, Sor [laughter] I thought it was a man." >> Do you know like what time she got dropped off? You said it was just before we showed up. >> It was about 45 minutes before. >> I got here at like 6:05 or something. >> No, they got here. They came earlier. >> Yes. Earlier today we did. Yeah. >> And then I was just like, "That's no good." And then that's when I called you and was like, "There's some chick here." And they done Janet, I don't know. I don't know what's going on. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Cuz they popped up. >> Okay. >> And when y'all pop up, it's never >> Where did the black car go? >> I don't know. >> Did you see it like turn around? >> No, I just kept went straight down the street that way. >> So you saw it leave back south. Okay. All right. >> Straight towards the freeway. my my best guess. >> Okay. All right. Um any other conversation you had with her today? >> No, I'm sorry. That's all I got. Yeah, >> that's all right. >> That's it. Yeah. >> Um do you know anybody else that had did she have any friends around here that are here that know her well that she was chatting with? >> Seattle, I think. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Her mom's dropped her off a bunch of times and they all I know she's just kind of problematic. you know >> how that like >> like when she was here she wouldn't really listen. She'd get in arguments with other women that were here. Um >> you know her sponsor would tell her to do things and and she wouldn't do them. >> You know like being here there's like a set of rules if you want to be here because it's free. We don't charge nobody and >> stay sober, you know, stay within the guidelines. And it was just never that way with her. Okay. >> Just kind of she was always off the wall kind of I don't want to say crazy but maybe mental health issues. >> Okay. >> You know >> Okay. Um did you see her did you see her like have anything with her when she showed up? >> That little purse. >> Just her purse that she took with her. >> Mhm. >> Okay. But you didn't see her with anything else or a coat or anything like that that maybe she didn't wear? >> No. Okay. >> No, she just came with a t-shirt. >> Yeah. She came as she >> Well, she had like a zip-up sweatshirt on when she left. Oh, you guys gave her that? >> The other woman gave it to her? Yeah. >> Did you notice anything about her clothing that was >> No, she just sat down like normal. >> Okay. >> So, for me it's like, well, if you know to sit down in here, >> you know what I mean? And >> you probably belong here. >> You probably [laughter] been here, >> you know what I mean? I was just like I was just like, "Oh." Cuz when you walk in, I was like, "Oh, >> oh." You know what I mean? Introduce myself, but that's about it. >> Okay. >> No real conversations. And then she just sat. >> Did you see her chatting with any You didn't see her chat with anybody else? >> She kind of She kind of stuck to herself. Okay. >> It's kind of still >> Okay. And >> she just had a t-shirt on and her purse and it's freezing out here. >> Yeah, it is. >> I'm freezing. And I have a sweatshirt on. >> Who owns this place? You and your dad? >> My dad. >> Your dad does. Where's he at? >> Um I think he's at home. >> Oh, okay. Did you see her get here? >> I didn't see her get here. No. >> Okay. >> You know, when uh my dad called me and told me to call you guys, we were coming back from a job site. >> Okay. Yeah. >> What time was that? Do you know? um when I called >> or when your dad got a hold of you or >> um well I think I talked to some guy here. They said that she got here around 4. I made the call. It was at 5:36. >> Who said she got here around 4? >> Uh one of the guys that was here for the meeting that seen her get here, but they said that she got here walking. >> Okay. So, somebody saw her walk here. >> Yeah. >> Um [clears throat] I was going to ask you, was there police here earlier today looking for her? >> There was. Somebody told me that yeah, they had came here and I think I don't know who talked to him or somebody talked to him. I don't know how it went. Yeah. >> Did you chat with her at all while she was here? >> I just said hi to her. >> Okay. >> Yeah, she came to No, cuz she's been here before. >> But I mean, like I told the other lady, she left and we told her mom to find her like actual like a like a psychiatrist cuz her problem is just like it was beyond just alcohol. >> Yeah. >> So, >> okay. But today when she got here, you didn't really chat with her. Said hi. >> No. Did you see her like talking with anybody really? >> No, I didn't. >> No, she's kind of hanging by herself. >> No. Yeah, cuz when we got here um they were watching a movie or a football game, something like that. >> The employees also revealed that Janet was usually very bubbly and loud, often talking to everyone. Whenever she was at the rehab, but on that day after she arrived, she was unusually quiet and kept to herself with her hands in her pockets. This along with the blood drops on her shoes was enough to make the cops suspect that Janet might have done something regretful. >> I don't know much about what happened, but how you how do you end up here? >> Well, I left my son with someone who takes care of kids and my parents are concerned. My mom, my parents are concerned. So now it's just like is he safe? Is he not safe? Where's he at? Where is he at? So >> and they're concerned because you're not able to reach her or >> because I'm not able to reach her. Yeah. >> Okay. But it's fine. I mean, >> well, it's not fine, >> right? Because >> we need to figure this out, >> right? >> So, it's it's starting to get just a little bit like >> concerning. I mean, I said my son is there. My son is there. And if he's not there, I don't know what else we can do from here. >> But that's not a good address that you're giving us. >> Then I don't know what else to tell you because that's where I left my son. Unless he's lost or unless he's with another person that's hurting him, then then I can understand. But >> I don't know what else to tell you. >> Okay. So, >> like I like I told you earlier, I know that you care about your son. >> It's very obvious. >> Mhm. >> And that's why and I know that you know where you left him because you wouldn't just leave him somewhere that >> right >> that you didn't know where he was so you could go back to him. >> Of course. >> Was Was he awake when he fell out of bed? >> He was awake. Yeah. >> Was he okay? I was checking. So try to can you can you explain to me when you're going driving to Seattle? >> You said it took you like 2 hours to get there. >> 1 hour to get there. When I got there, I I took him with to the lady >> and then I left and I said, "Hey, I'm going to be here for 12 months and I'm leaving and that's it." >> Okay. Took you an hour to get to her house. >> Mhm. >> Can you tell me anything like what exit you took, what area you in? What's around her house? >> I don't remember. >> How did you find out how to get there? I don't remember. I just I drove and I got there. Oh, I had her address and then I put it in the navigation. >> Can I see your navigation? >> Yep. >> What do you use for your navigation? >> Just like >> do you use Google or >> Google Maps or Okay. >> I don't think that I used actually the navigation for that one. You can check. >> Do you have Do you mind if I look? Do you have ways too? >> What is that? >> Uh, no. Okay. So, we should just if we I just want you to be able to see what we're doing. I don't want to go anything through your phone without um >> I did actually I did use a navigation for that one >> for the address. Yeah, it's on there. >> Okay. Around what time was that that you did that? >> So, this says recent T-Mobile. Oh, T-Mobile in Seattle. Did you go there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Or the T-Mobile in Seattle. >> It just says recent. >> Yes, I did. Let me see if we can do more here. Here we go. Today, >> do you go to T-Mobile after you drop off your son or before? >> I think I stopped by there before >> before you drop him off. Did you got out of the car and went inside the T-Mobile store? >> Um, yes, >> you did. And your son went with you or he stay in the car? >> My son went with me. >> Okay. Uh what's the >> what's this mountain like terrace address? >> Um I that's looks like that's the place where I went. Oh no, that's the church we go to. >> And this one here, >> this is where she was earlier. This is in Richfield. >> Oh, okay. >> So recent. >> So it and probably not the T-Mobilester. I think it's just like a different place that I went to. Do you remember? What were you doing in that area? >> Let me see. I don't know why it says T-Mobile. That's not right. I don't know. I think it's the T I don't know why it says that. That's not right cuz I never went to T-Mobile. So, I don't know. Like after today, I think or before today. I didn't I haven't gone to T-Mobile. Let me see the address. >> I know. I'm trying to get back to where we were. I don't know. >> Oh, that's when I was Yeah, that's when I was looking for different T-Mobiles to apply to. That's when I was looking for a job. >> Okay. You were planning on applying at T-Mobile. >> Yeah. Again, but that was before. That wasn't today. That was not concerning today. >> Today, my son should be at the address. And if he's not there, then now I'm concerned. >> Can I take a picture of this just so we can like >> Yes. >> Maybe uh figure out some of these locations and see if maybe >> All right. >> Maybe it will um be something. Yeah. >> Do you have families in Seattle? Are you >> I The only family that I have is this lady that I'm telling you that is taking care. >> Okay. You got her name and all of that. Does this lady exist or >> Anita? >> Does she have any social Anita? >> What? >> Anita is her name? >> Yeah. >> Does she have any social? >> Does she have any social media? Facebook, Instagram? No. >> How do you meet her? >> I met her through um I met her Where did I meet her? >> At my job. Wait. So, we got T-Mobile. >> Yeah. >> Jenna, do you mind if I look through your messages? I feel like you're having a hard time remembering things and I don't know if you're in shock or what's going on, but maybe that could help us find something. >> Yeah. >> Would that be okay? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Do you mind if I see it? >> Yeah. And see, this is where my son fell. But you could check You can check I'm sorry. You can check my [music] phone. >> I appreciate it. I'll put it right here. Um, who is this number that you deleted? >> Let me see. >> I have no idea. Recently deleted. >> Do you mind if I look at those? >> Um, I do mind. >> Is there a reason? >> I mean, I'm not hiding anything, but I mean, >> no, I know. It's just It's a fair question. >> Yeah, let's out of there. So, literally this is just like my friend texting me. This is my brother text me the address to where your son's at. This is my sister. Please tell me where this is the address where your son is at. >> I haven't texted him anything. I haven't replied to him. My mom, we've been fighting over the kids and over her opening the door. Mom, open the door. I'm outside. Mom, open the door. Open the door. And she's just like done with me. And then this is my friend. He's like, your mom's concerned. you need to text back. This is the police that I've been calling over and over um today. I called them today. This is a friend of mine. >> All right. >> This is also concerning. This is my older son. >> Okay. >> Who I suspect and if we can do something about it at home where I live, who I suspect gets >> Yeah. >> my oldest son. And I have the address. The seven-year-old. Can you guys write that down? >> Yeah. Seven-year-old. >> What's his name? >> Where's he staying? >> With my with my with grandparents. That's why that's why we've been fighting because they don't want to let me in and I suspect that he's getting and I've already tried calling the police and there's like um I already like a CPS thing filed and I hope that they can check him and I suspect he gets by my dad. So, if we can check that. Um, and then other than that, that's all I have. I also have a picture. And that's it. >> Okay. Would you be okay if she kind of read some of those up there >> on her own? Like I said, she'll leave it. >> I I'll leave it here so you can see what I'm saying. >> [snorts] >> There's just there's no way that today you went from Everett to Seattle >> and met Anita without contacting her somehow and making some kind of arrangement for your son. >> Right. I don't know why you say there's no way if it happened. So, I don't know what else to tell you. >> Well, you told me you went on your Facebook and found her phone number, >> right? But then I deleted my Facebook. So, I don't know now. just so I'm just I don't know what else to tell you guys. I don't know what else you guys want me to say or to you know that's exactly what happened. Like we went to this other lady and I made sure that she stayed with him and now I'm second thinking I'm second thinking myself because I'm like okay if my mom now is starting to talk to me then I should have left my youngest son with my mom while I came to go get help right while I came to come like recover. But she didn't answer me until barely today. And so now my son's already with this other lady. So >> this is the lady you stayed with last night. This is the blood on the >> That's the lady that I stayed with the two two nights ago. But she That's not the lady who I left my son with. We left there this morning. Yeah. >> But this is where your son felt was at her house. >> And you went to the hospital? >> I went to the Swedish Proidence. >> This for Ariel? >> This for Ariel. >> And what time did you go to the hospital? >> We went to the hospital at 12. No, at 11 a.m. We went to the hospital at 11:00 a.m. We didn't get we didn't get fully checked. So then So we we didn't get seen there. So we left and then um and I took him over to Anita's house and if she's not answering or if she if you guys can't like I hope that you can find the address and I hope that you can find that he's there. >> Yeah, I can't I can't find the address is the problem. So um >> do you have any way of logging back into Facebook? >> I don't even remember my login or my password. We've been checking. >> We've been checking. >> Um, let me see. Cuz what was the name? >> What happened to him? What did he What happened to him? >> He fell from the bed. >> Um, >> did anything else happen that you're not >> No. >> No. Nothing else. >> Right. >> Was it Alika? >> Anita. >> Anita. Same last name though. Was Yeah. >> So, and even I hurt myself right here while I while I try to pick him up. >> Okay. >> So, so now I'm like missing >> part of this. >> Were you guys both asleep when he fell out of bed? >> No, I was awake. I was making myself a tea and then as soon as I I seen him like fall, I'm like, >> how do you spell Anita's last name? I'm sorry. And then I got to make him breakfast and everything like that. So, but um yeah, he was he was he was falling. So, I was like, "No." >> Did he fall straight out of bed just right to the floor? >> He was jumping and then he fell on the ground. >> Oh, that makes sense. >> Mhm. >> Then you guys had breakfast after he fell. >> Yeah. >> So, he should have been fine. >> Yeah. Yeah. But >> yeah. >> So, >> is it okay if I look at your recent pictures? >> Um, >> I won't go. >> Actually, no. >> Okay. >> No, because >> we're going to leave. Yeah, just leave the phone right here, though. No, we won't look at it, but just leave it. >> Okay. Out. >> That's why I asked permission. I won't go through. >> No, I don't want you don't want me to go through. >> I rather you not. Okay. Who else knows Anita? >> I don't know. No one from my family knows her. >> Well, you met her through church, right? I know through >> through at my job. >> Okay. Who was the the manager at your job? >> She was a customer. >> Yeah. >> She was a customer. >> Mhm. >> Did she buy anything? >> She would come see me every once in a while, but no. >> That doesn't make a lot of sense, right? I feel like you're almost making up stuff as you go. >> No, that's really all that happened. So, I don't know what else to tell you guys. >> How long ago was this that you were talking to Anita and she will randomly show up at your job? >> This was like um a few this was like last year. Few years ago. >> Last year. A few years ago. >> Few years ago. And then I messaged her I messaged her not that long ago and then I >> What was the reasoning for you messaging her? >> Because I I wanted her to watch my kids again. But and then I finally got a hold of her again today and I let her >> I let her take my kids. >> Well, the one, right? >> Yeah. >> The inconsistencies in Janet's story only raised more suspicions. She told the police she had gotten Alicia's information from Facebook, [music] but then claimed she didn't remember her own Facebook details. When officers attempted to search for Alica online, they couldn't find any trace of her at all. [music] Even Janet herself tripped over her story and forgot if her son was with Alica or Anita. >> Um, when you were driving south today towards Seattle. >> Mhm. >> Did you stop anywhere else? >> Mm-m. Just her house. >> Just her house. >> Okay. >> What does her house looks like? Sorry. No, it's okay. >> What does her house look like? >> It's a big blue house. No, it's like a big I don't know if it's a blue house or like a different color. Just like a regular house. >> How many floors? Twotory, one story home. >> Oh, her she lives in apartments. >> She does. >> She lives in the blue house. >> In the blue house. Um, that's probably No, it's not a blue house. That's like her neighbors. >> Whose blue house are you describing? >> A different house >> that belongs to who? >> Um, probably I'm probably thinking about my parents' house, but that's not what I'm talking about. >> Then why would you bring this up? >> Because it just came up. >> What does that have to do with Anita's house? >> Well, then no, that's not her house. She lives in apartments. She lives on the second floor. Okay, >> I'm going to let you gather your thoughts for a second. Okay. What you're saying is not making any sense and it's making you look worse, you know, less credible, right? >> Yes. >> Because what you're saying is just making zero sense. >> Mhm. >> So, gather your thoughts and like tell me something that actually makes sense. >> Okay. So, she lives in apartments. She doesn't live in a blue house. Um, and from there, that's all I know. I took him there and I don't know anything else. What color are the apartments? >> Just like regular colors. >> What are regular colors? >> Like like black or like um like orange. Um red. I don't know. Just like regular color. Tell me something that you remember about those apartments that if I drove up to them, I would be like, "Yes, those are the apartments she was talking about." Anything you can close your eyes, you can think about it. Anything you can remember. >> That's it. >> Did you walk up to the apartment to drop off here? >> I drove there and then I walked up to the apartment place. >> How many stairs cases did you take? >> Just two. Just two staircases. >> And then you took a right or a left? >> Uh, a right. Or was it a left? No, a right. Okay. How how much how long did you walk? Do you go to her apartment? >> Not that much. I don't walk too much. >> How many doors did you pass? >> Not that many doors. I don't think any door at all. >> She went up the stairs and you took your first ride and that's their apartment. The apartment. >> Okay. >> What happened when you got there? >> So when I got there, I spoke to her. I said, "Hey, this and this is going on. Like I want to know if you can watch my kid for me for the next 12 months." >> Why did you tell her what's going on? I I >> I'm having pro I'm having problems with my parents. They're not letting me back in the house. My mom, she took my son. My son was staying with me, but she took him out of school early and I freaked out. And so now she has my son. She doesn't answer me. She won't let me get my son. I call the cops. They don't do anything. And so, which is fine. I don't care. But then, um, I was like, um, I need to go get help. I need to get sober again. So, I want to leave my kid with you now. And so, >> when was the last time you drank? M like last weekend. >> Last weekend. >> Mhm. >> So today is Wednesday. >> Today's Wednesday. Maybe not last. Yeah, like Thursday maybe. >> Okay. >> What about when was the last time I used? >> Mhm. >> So I recently relapsed like >> today. No, not today. Like I recently relapsed like two weeks ago. >> So that's why I'm like, "Okay, I do need to come get help." because I don't ever do that. I don't ever use drug. But that night I did use I I used like just like a single whatever. I don't smoke. I don't do any of that. >> Were you with somebody when you did? >> I did. I was with someone. >> Yeah. Who were you with? >> And it was easier for me to do it because I was drunk. Like super drunk. >> Yeah. >> So I and I was with I was with some friend and then so I got I left from there and that's when I was like okay I need to come get help because I can't relapse and do everything that I want to do. >> Right. So yes, I have used >> um ever since that day I've been drinking tea, tea, tea so it can like so it can clean out of me and I can >> Yeah. and I can be okay and I can be sober because I don't like to be impaired. I don't like I want I like to be sober. >> Yeah. >> So but that's the >> So it's been like two weeks since you used and then you haven't had any alcohol since like last Thursday. >> Yeah. >> About about a week. Okay. So, I'm sorry. You're there with Anita. What's Anita wearing? >> She's just wearing regular like a regular shirt and just pants. >> What's a regular shirt? >> Blue pants, like um brown shirt. That's it. >> Okay. T-shirt? >> Just a regular blouse. Like a like a woman blouse. >> Okay. >> Does anybody else live with her? >> Just herself and I think her kids. >> How many kids does she have? >> Um three kids or something like that? >> Three. How old they I didn't see them. >> Okay. Do you know how old they are? >> No. >> Okay. How do you know she has three kids? >> Because she's talking to me before like when she would come to the store and you know this and that. So, >> but she came to your store and didn't buy anything. >> No, she would just come to the store and see how I'm doing or just anything with the phone. Any help that I might need with the phone >> that you might need with the phone? >> Why would you need help with the phone? >> No, that she needs help with the phone. Sometimes she needs help like you know with anything like opening up different apps or just like >> okay >> doing different things. >> Okay. About how old are her kids when she would talk about them? >> Um or just like different sometimes she needs help like you know with phone like I don't know. >> Yeah. How about how old are her kids when she talk about them? Are they in school? Are they growing up? >> They're older. They're older. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And they're in her apartment there. So did you go in her apartment today? >> I went into her apartment. >> Okay. Tell me what it looks like in there. >> Just regular. >> Regular doesn't cut it. Tell me what it looks like. >> So, you walk in, there's a TV, and then there's like um there's like sofas and the rooms. >> So, you walk in, you said TV's in front of you. Is it >> is it hanging on something? Is it sitting on something? >> It's just sitting on something. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Do you remember what that looks like when it's sitting on? >> Just regular TV. >> What does it look like when it's sitting on? Um like a like a wood a wooden um drawer and like a TV. >> Okay, >> that's it. >> What about And you said there's a couch. >> Is it like a big couch? Small couch. >> It's a big couch. >> How big? What does it look like? >> It's just like stretched out like that. It's just like a big couch >> like in an L shape you're drawing. Do >> you remember what color it was? >> Is it light dark pattern? Remember anything like that? pink >> light pink couch. Okay. In like an L shape. >> Mhm. >> Okay. What else do you remember in the apartment? >> And then the other Yeah. And then the other couch is um like a black couch. >> Okay. >> So, >> what else do you remember in the apartment? Where's the kitchen? >> Kitchen is to the left. >> So, you walk in the door, your TV, you've got two couches you described, and then to the left is the kitchen. >> Mhm. >> What's the kitchen look like? pans. Um, that's it. >> Pans? >> Yeah, like the um like the stove top and then there's like pans on top. That's it. >> Call it a cabinet. >> Regular wood, light wood, like a light wood cabinet. Is it a big kitchen? Little kitchen. >> It's a small kitchen. >> Can you describe it? Like if if I if I couldn't see and I wanted to know what what it looked like, how would you how would you? >> It's a small kitchen. There's like glass windows and it's there's like um what do you call it? Um I don't know what you would call it. Yeah. The >> I don't even know. Okay. >> But yeah, >> glass windows like on the cabinets. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Um, how many bedrooms are in there? Did you see? >> I think only two. I don't know. >> Two. Did you see them? >> No, I didn't see them. >> Okay. Did you see anybody else in the apartment with her? >> Two. Three. I think it's three bedrooms, actually. >> Okay. >> So, like one. So, three three bedrooms. >> Where are they at? Like if you're when you walk in, you have your living room. The kitchen's on the left. Where are the bedrooms? >> To the right. >> On the other side. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> Did you go in any of those? You guys eat anything? [snorts] >> No. >> Good. >> Good. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Um, how long were you there? >> I was there for about like an hour and then I I was there for only an hour. >> What did you guys do? >> Um, just talk. We just sat and talked. >> You tell me about what you talked about. You remember talking about? >> No. >> Cuz you don't want to tell me or because you don't remember? It's just regular things like, you know, about like how are you? You've been using this and that. You need to go back and get help. Like, you need to go back and get sober and things like that. >> Janet's responses clearly indicated she was either under the influence or just terrible at lying. Detectives realized it was about time they confronted her about her substance, but to no avail. I'm um I'm I'm concerned and I'm not I'm not judging you for using and you know I've studied alcoholism and use and I I understand the effects it has on the brain and how it's a disease and people can't help it. Um >> I get that and >> and I'm really glad that you're trying to get some help for yourself. That's really good. M >> I'm concerned though that you're still you're affected by it right now cuz I can tell in like your responses um you're a little confused. You're kind of scattered. You're having a difficult time remembering things. >> Um and that's okay if that's the case. It just helps if we know that because it will help us to ask you better questions or to help it will help um me understand why you might be confused. Do you understand what I'm saying? >> So, have you used more recently than two weeks ago? Okay. You're sober right now. Okay. I just want to make sure because like I said, and like Detective Syla was saying too, some of your question, your responses aren't really making sense. Um, and you're and you're giving some things that are um contradicting each other sometimes because I spoke to you over at the house and and you said things a little bit differently there than than you say them here. So, I just I want to understand I want to find your son. And if and if he got hurt and something happened to him, that's okay, too. We just we need to find out where he's at >> so that we can make sure he's safe or or do whatever we need to do to help him, >> right? And I really need you to to help me so we can we can get that information from you, >> okay? >> Cuz I think it's there like, you know, and I think you're skirting around it a little bit and I get it. It's it's scary and you're with the police and you're in this room and whatever, but we just want to help, right? >> At this point, we're trying to help him, >> right? >> With whatever happened today, did anybody help you? for Anita or did Anita help you or is that someone that you're just making up? >> No, I gave No, I gave I gave her my son and then I said I have to go and that's it. >> How were you planning on getting back in touch with Anita? Cuz you were planning on giving your son to her for 12 months. Was she willingly accepting that? >> Yeah. >> Why would somebody do that that you don't even have her phone number? She's a woman that I trust and that I believe in and she's a good woman at the end like >> Right. But if you trust her so much, why don't you even have a contact information? >> I do. I do have her contact information and I have her phone number. >> Have you called her today? >> I've called her. Yes. >> How many times did you call her? >> Just one time. >> How long did you talk to her on the phone? >> Fine. >> Right. >> That's what I'm trying to get to. Right. Like um like I want to believe you, but like what you're saying is just not making sense. And even if you did something today that was kind of that's fine, >> right? >> Like we'd rather know what actually happened than you making a story that doesn't make any sense, >> right? >> Like you know, we know that that we don't believe that and you know that. >> Yeah. and we're just prolonging we'll all just be sitting here for hours and hours going around in circles when we would like to just get this resolved more quickly. >> I don't know what else to say. >> The truth >> that that is the truth. There's nothing else that I can say or that there's nothing else that comes to mind like that's it. So, >> um, you left your car at her apartment. >> At her No, I left it at a bus station in Seattle. >> You told me you left it at the apartment earlier. I have it on video. I can show it to you. >> Yeah. No, >> this is what I mean. This is just why I'm trying to understand. You said I left it at her apartment. I could show you the video from at the house earlier. >> Mhm. >> I left it in the bus station. at the bus station in Seattle. Downtown >> downtown Seattle. Like what's it near? >> Um I don't know. But it's like I don't know. It's the I don't know. I don't know what it's near. >> I'm not very familiar with Seattle. I know. Like there's Pikes Place in Seattle. I know there's the Seahawks stadium in Seattle. Like is it near any of that? Is it >> I think it's like near Pike Place. You think? >> Yes. >> What makes you think that? >> Because >> like make me believe this. >> I think it's near Pike Place. [clears throat] >> What? What makes you think that though? >> Just because. >> Why do you say Pike's Place? Because you say Pike's Place or >> what's Pike's Place near? >> Downtown Seattle. >> What else? >> That's it. By the aquarium or so. >> Okay. Did anybody know that you left it at the bus station? >> Um, no. >> Nobody. You didn't tell anybody that you left your car at the bus station? >> Did Anita know where you were going? >> She didn't know where you were going >> today. No. I did tell her that I was going to the group. >> Okay. Does she know where that is? >> Um, no. What's going on tonight? >> That's it. >> But so your friend lives down by SeaTac, right? >> Mhm. >> Where you went? >> Yes. >> And she's she is a T-Mobile customer. >> Yes. But she would drive to Everett to come see you. >> No, she would go to the store whenever she wanted to. >> Which which store? >> T-Mobile. >> Which >> which location? >> On in Everett. >> So she would drive an hour to come see you at that Everett location? >> No, we met there, but she ended up moving to a different place. Oh, I got you. >> Yeah, but I've only seen her a few times and that's it. No more. >> So SeaTac, you're talking like by near the airport. Okay. cuz that's a little bit that's south of Seattle. Like >> it's just in Seattle, not Seek. It's just somewhere in Seattle. >> Okay. Not CEK. >> Are you familiar with what C the town of Sea? Like by the airport. >> Are you familiar with that? >> Boeing field. >> No, just regular Seattle. >> So not SeaTac. Cuz when he asked you CATC, he said yes. >> Not CATC. >> So how come you said yes >> or or CAT? Do you never see >> the address is right there? That's it. >> Which one? >> Which address? >> The first one. >> This Yeah, that's a There's a southeast and it's an Isiqua which isn't too far from there. Is that a possibility that it's Isiqua? No, not at all. Maybe maybe it is southeast. I don't know >> because this is a good address if I do southeast but not southwest. >> Yeah. >> Or is it in Mount Lake Terrace? Cuz Mount Lake Terrace you had on your phone. >> Mhm. >> Is that where it is? >> Yeah. It's not Mount Lake Terrace. >> Is that where your church was? Is that what you're saying? >> Not like Terrace. >> Mhm. >> What's the name of your church? >> Um, St. Elizabeth. >> St. Elizabeth. How long have you gone there? >> Um, I've been I go there a lot. >> Yeah. Do you share your location with anybody for safety reasons? >> No. >> Who's the closest person to you in your life right now? >> My son. >> Which one? >> My oldest son. >> Okay. Besides him, who's your closest person? >> That's it. >> How about Ariel? >> Ariel as well. >> Why are you crying? What's going on through your head? >> [snorts] [snorts] >> I just hope they're okay. >> Who's they? >> My kids. >> And >> And that's it. >> You say they >> I just hope they're okay. What do you think happened today? >> I don't know. >> Well, you know Anita more than I do. If you could guess, what do you think happened today? What's the last conversation you have with Ariel today? What did he say? >> You're going to stay here and mommy's going to go. >> What did he tell you? >> He said, "Okay." >> Anything else? Is he crying? >> That was it. [snorts] >> What did he think of Anita? >> He liked her. >> Why did he like her? Why make you say that? >> Because they got along good. >> Yeah. What kind of things were they doing? >> Just [snorts] playing. How long has you been in her house? [snorts] >> He's been there since this morning. So, I don't know. >> How long were you there with him? >> Um, I was only there with him for an hour. [snorts] >> What does Anonita do for work? is she um I don't I think she just takes care of kids. [snorts] >> Let me um >> we'll let you kind of like >> something for a second. I want to I want to take a look at your shirt and your um a little bit of blood splatter on there. I want to take some pictures of that. Okay. [snorts] >> And same with your shoes, too. So, go ahead and stand up for me. We're going to take your purse off. You can just set it right here and go ahead and take your sweatshirt all the way. Is this your sweatshirt? >> Yes. >> This is yours? This one? >> Yes. >> Okay. Go ahead and just take it off. >> Is that what that is on there? Some of his blood that got on you. Okay. And then on your shoes. [snorts] >> Poor little guy. He was bleeding. Can you leave your shoes, too? >> Yeah. Lift your lift your arm up for me and turn to the side. Just stay right there. [music] >> Despite hours of investigation and Janet's increasingly unstable composure, she still did not break until the very end. However, as detectives pieced together security footage and phone data to track her Nissan, the truth slowly began to surface. On the afternoon of March 27th, 2024, surveillance cameras captured her car stopping on a road near Joint Base Lewis McCord. The footage showed Janet carrying an object wrapped in a white blanket into the woods and returning to the car alone. When police located the blanket in the wooded area, they identified the body of the 4-year-old inside. A medical examiner determined that the child had at least 41 sharp force injuries on his chest, abdomen, and back. Following the discovery, Janet was arrested and transferred to the Snowomish County Jail in Everett, where she was held as the primary suspect in the homicide. >> I think they're okay. Hey, so just so you know, our we have body cameras on. Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you. My partner's going to go to the other side. The seat belt's a little weird. >> Okay. >> So, he's just going to buckle you on that side. >> Yeah, no worries. >> I thought I was getting relieved. >> Oh, it's a little confusing. I get it. Um, so, uh, we're from Everett. Okay. drove down here. Um, we are kind of the taxi drivers, okay? Uh, I am here to tell you you are under arrest for murder one. Um, I'm not going to ask you any questions about anything cuz I'm the taxi driver. Okay? If you do want to talk to somebody, I can call the person who's in charge that's not the taxi driver and you can talk to them. Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, we're going to take a drive. It's going to be a long drive. That's why we had you go to the bathroom beforehand. Okay. Um, you're going to have a camera right here just so you know what's going on. Um >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cool. The So, it's going to be long. Sometimes people like to like shift sideways to let their hands kind of just hang out in this spot here. So, you you do what you need to do to get comfortable here. Okay. Okay. >> All right. >> Okay. Janet was later charged with firstdegree and seconddegree murder as well as first-degree assault of a child. Her case moved slowly because she required several mental health evaluations to determine if she was fit for trial. In April 2025, a judge ruled she was competent to proceed. She pleaded not guilty and was held on a $3 million bond. Her trial was set for late August 2025 as the legal process continues to move through the court system. This concludes the report from our investigation division at Twin Scope Cops. All individuals involved remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
