my name is John Harrison I have recently retired from the crawl Springs Police Department I was with the police department for 31 years when we started obviously we had no technology in the vehicles you know we had a mapbook and a radio um we had call boxes cuz we didn't have cell phones they would tell you if they need to talk to you to go to a certain pay phone and they would call you at that pay phone if they needed to tell you something that they couldn't tell you over the radio in January of 1994 I became a member of the honor guard um they found out that I could play trumpet they needed a bugle player and I continued doing that until I recently retired in 1997 I applied and it was accepted to the uh motorcycle unit back then doing traffic on the bike so everything was handwritten so you know we had a radio we didn't have any comms in our helmets so all you had was a handheld radio with a mic phone on your caller people think we're hiding you know in behind the bushes and stuff but if you actually stood out there for a while bring your thermometer and uh stand in the Sun and then stand in the shade it's a big difference so we're actually finding a place to get where we're in the shade and not into direct sunlight so we're actually trying to just be a little cooler and not pass out while we're out there
