foreign [Music] I've been working for the Coral Springs Police Department for 10 and a half years I've been assigned to the traffic enforcement unit for the last three and a half years our primary function is traffic enforcement throughout the city we are in school zones we're in construction zones we go to areas where we get complaints and try to you know tackle traffic issues going on in that area normally I am a motor officer so I'm on a motorcycle doing most of my enforcement and then we also do traffic homicide investigations as well so any serious part of the injury crash or a crash involving a fatality we respond out we're on call 24 7 for those to do the investigations motor five copy of 50 3100 University yeah it's a white colored Jeep looks like two octane good morning yeah that's why I stopped here doing 34 miles an hour it's only a 15 mile an hour school zone right now because of Charter no yeah it's it's the four corners of the intersection then all the way south and you can see where it ends right here with the signs so good morning I'm officer listen to Coral Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you is when you were turning left from Coral Springs Drive onto Wiles Road you literally block the intersection those cars had the green light to go Northbound on Coral Springs Drive then don't make the turn okay I understand it's green but if you have nowhere to go don't make the turn you need to wait at the light until you have room to turn you can't turn and stop in the middle of the intersection okay all right so we uh stopped this gray Lincoln Navigator she was making the left-hand turn Southbound on Springs to uh go onto Wiles Road and uh there was nowhere for her to go because of the school zone traffic and uh so she ended up blocking the intersection she was literally in the middle of the intersection the light turned green for Northbound traffic on Coral Springs Drive and they they literally couldn't go anywhere so I was just advising her that when she's making the turn you know she needs to wait until there's room for her to go if there's not then she needs to wait because otherwise you get left out in the middle of the intersection and it's blocking everybody's blocking the kids from walking on the crosswalk it's blocking traffic from going northbound on Coral Springs Drive I'm also Western cross Springs Police Department the reason why I stop is because you can't stop in the middle of the road here I know you can't that's what I'm saying you can't drop in the road yeah next time just pull into the parking lot you know what I mean but don't stop on Springs on on Coral Springs Drive yeah because yeah I'm like you're gonna encounter pull these so just let them know this is the first time you're actually jumping your kids yeah yeah yeah so yeah motor five yeah just don't drop in the roadway you get your license oh stop this gentleman he pulled up here just south of Wise Road in Coral Springs Drive in the right hand lane stopped in the in the lane of traffic and uh dropped his son off for school and obviously you're not allowed to do that if he was gonna drop pulled him to the parking lot and get off the roadway is what we don't want is somebody exiting the vehicle and then getting the vehicle being rear-ended while they're in the process of getting in and out of the vehicle and get seriously injured so so before I joined the Coral Springs Police Department I was a police officer in North Carolina for four years and uh prior to that I was in the U.S Air Force Security Forces which is their version of military police I did that as well and I've stayed on I've been in the reserve a total of 16 years I had a couple breaks in service but I've completed 16 years I'm currently a technical sergeant and mainly just assigned a training so when I'm not here and I'm away I'm kind of doing the same job function still still doing police work just on a military installation instead of in a city uh so right now we're in the construction zone in Coral Springs uh on Wiles Road in between University Drive and Riverside Drive and the speed limit is reduced because of the construction with workers present to 35 miles an hour and uh so I'm using my laser to get the speed of vehicles that are heading eastbound on Wiles Road right now so we make a visual visual estimation of the vehicle speed and then confirm that with the laser 51. and he's on the phone [Music] motor five copy of 50 80 700 block walls good morning sir good I'm officer with Coral Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you is number one you're traveling 51 miles an hour it's only a 35 mile an hour Zone because of the construction two anytime you're in a construction zone or in a school zone the State of Florida you can't be on the cell phone at all so it has to be completely hands-free so you can't have the phone in your hand no talking texting anything like that so it's like an extra on top of the texting wall you can't text and drive it's just school zones and construction zones you can't be on the phone at all you can't have it in your hands so um I just need to check your driver's license and is the vehicle registered to you yes sir it is yeah all right so make the traffic stop on this uh gray F-150 driver's going 51 in a 35 mile an hour Zone here in the construction zone uh he was also when he passed us you could clearly see he had a cell phone up to his face talking on the phone so anytime you're in a construction zone or a school zone in the State of Florida since October of 2019 you can't uh be on a cell phone at all it's completely hands-free in construction zones in school zones so it has to be Bluetooth either ear device or connected to the car but it can't be in your hands at all any type of an electronic device so we're just going to check his tag here said the vehicle is registered to him his insurance was good and check his license and see how that looks all right so I am issuing the driver a citation for the handheld device in a work Zone and I'm gonna give him a verbal warning for the speed uh looked like he had been stopped one other time for a traffic violation was given a warning so this time we're going to issue a citation but give him a break on the speed so the uh the citation mission is a non-moving violation so there's no points he just either pays it or can test it in quarter so hey it doesn't [Music] stop in the middle of the road I guess good morning sir I'm also listen to Coral Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you travel 51 miles an hour it's a 35 mile an hour construction zone there's signs all on the side of the road saying 35 miles an hour it's been that way for about two years in this area do you have your driver's license on you this morning okay foreign just do me a favor just pull your car off on the side of the road here okay just so we're out of the roadway stop this red Tesla he's doing 51 miles an hour it's supposed to 35 mile an hour construction zone tag is Goods registered to uh his wife it looks like he's been stopped three times and given two citations before from the Traffic Unit and one of them is for Speed in the same area we're in right now 62 miles an hour and the other one is also for Speed and uh of course when I stopped him he stopped right in the middle of the road which is not a good thing if you're getting stopped by the police you see lights on Sirens the optimal thing to do is to find the safest place to pull off to the right side of the road to get out of traffic nobody wants to be in traffic it's not safe for us it's not safe for the drivers all right so here's your license back gotcha all right so here's the problem I checked your license you were already issued a citation for speeding in the exact same spot by one of my co-workers and your issued a citation for speeding on Riverside Drive before so obviously you have a problem with the speed limit you got to slow down all right so the thing is I have to keep and I have to go to work about four in the morning to prepare everything yeah I got you but yep just you got to slow it down man trust me you're gonna hit these traffic lights it doesn't matter if you're doing 35 miles an hour like which is the speed limit right now or you're doing 51 you're still going to run into lights you're still going to run into traffic you're only going to shave off a couple of seconds so just slow it down next time like I said the whole time the construction zone is going on it's going to be 35 okay all right drive safe the time [Music] [Music] not slowing down in either [Music] three days later [Music] foreign [Applause] Springs Police Department the reason why I stopped you is all the way back in the construction zone you're doing 51 miles an hour it's a 35 mile an hour Zone I was literally running you down all the way from the 8700 block of Wiles Road you have your driver's license on you okay [Music] sir I've been behind you with my lights and sirens for like a mile and then you passed a car while I was behind you with my lights and Sirens yeah give him your license on you 'd like to travel stop on this uh dark colored Chevy Suburban here um doing 51 of the 35 through the construction zone he actually sped up and was going faster outside of the construction zone but just basically didn't even slow down I guess you didn't realize I was behind him but uh took him about a mile to stop here I'll check his tagging his license and see where he's at all right so um it's been stopped twice before for Speed a lot of fun about my co-worker will be issuing uh the driver a citation for the speed and the construction zone here [Music] thank you
