My name is Andrea Pavone. I work for the Coral Springs Police Department Crime Scene Unit and this is for National Forensic Science Week. When I was younger, I watched NCIS and I fell in love with the idea of crime scene. Then as I got older, I started to finally look into it. By the time I was in middle school, I believe, or late elementary, I knew that this was going to be my career. Every day is different. Some days are a little bit more relaxed than others. Other days are hectic to where we could be working 24 to 48 hours. And I never know what I'm going to come across. And every crime scene is different. Closing out a case, working on it, even after you've been up for 24 hours non-stop work at one crime scene, you feel satisfied once you finish it. Although it still has to go to trial probably and you might still have to testify, just actually physically finishing that crime scene is just satisfying in itself. [Music] For somebody who's interested in doing crime scene as their end career goal, I would definitely suggest getting a bachelor's degree bare minimum in a hard science. A lot of agencies require that. Um, sometimes criminal justice works, but I would suggest a hard science. Doing internships if you can or at least ride alongs. It's a very competitive field. Um, oftentimes for one job posting, you'll have between a 100 to 500 people applying for that one job. Some of them very wellqualified. So getting that foot in the door, whether it's through an evidence position or already working at a police department or having that internships and ridealongs really helps you go far. And then just continue taking trainings, working on everything, and just market yourself and research the agency that you're applying to. [Music]
