On October 24th at 11:33 a.m., Officer Vaval, Officer Rainey, and Detective Lopez responded to an assist EMS, heart call. Officer Rainey was the first to arrive and immediately made contact with several family members who were conducting CPR on the patient. Officer Rainey immediately began chest compressions as Detective Lopez used the ambu bag in an attempt to revive him. As officer Rainey was giving chest compressions, he was continuously calling out to the male with encouragement. He and Detective Lopez continued for several minutes until Officer Vaval took over chest compressions. Coral Springs Parkland Fire District Chief Palmer arrived and took over along with the crews of Engine 43 and rescue 42. The patient was transported to HCA Northwest Hospital as a code blue. Officers Vavval and Rainey followed the rescue and remained in the emergency room where medical staff continued to work on him for an extended period of time. At 12:36, over 1 hour from the time of the call, officers were contacted by Dr. Swallie and advised that the patient had a pulse and that he was being transported to the intensive care unit. It is due to the actions of these officers that the patient is alive today. And it is for this reason that they are worthy of receiving the life-saving commendation. [Music]
