Okay. >> Your other family members, I believe, have left. I think they're still in the garage. Okay. But for me to get to talk to you and ask you some questions or for you to answer, I have to read you these constitutional rights. Have you ever been read your constitutional moral warnings before? >> I I think for a prank. There you go. They're just like >> on November 12th, 2023 at Universal Studios Florida, officers from the Orlando Police Department respond after undercover loss prevention agents catch a group stealing from a park kiosk. What starts as confusion quickly turns into confrontation when one woman refuses to cooperate only to realize her defiance might land her in jail over a $40 souvenir. >> All right, head over this way, please. >> Oh, absolutely. >> For taking the girl's bag. Okay. >> But no, I'm not going into no office at all. >> That's all I can assure you of that. You want the girls bag taken? You want the girls bag? That's all you're getting. >> I have one. >> Ma'am, this way. Please. >> I'm not going to. >> Okay. All right. Let's go back in the office. >> I don't have No, I'm not. >> Ma'am, hold on a second. He just he just told me back. Just head in the office, please. >> I'm not going in the office. >> Ma'am, I'm going head in the office. >> No, they just told me I don't have to. No, >> ma'am. Yes. >> No. Why am I going to listen to >> Okay. >> You said I'm fine. I gave him this [ __ ] I don't think I need 56 any longer. Bravo. Bravo JB. No bags or anything. Get out of the stroller. >> Not taking the kid out of >> Well, then you can follow me to the car. just follow me to the >> ma'am. Let's just go in your office and let's figure out what's going on. Okay, please what? [ __ ] for what? For what? >> For what? >> Just calm down. For what? >> I have no idea what's going on. >> Let's go. Let's go. You can follow me to the truck if you're >> Hold on. You're weird. >> Anything you want. >> Which one? >> This woman right here. >> Let's go. >> I'm taking the baby. >> Take the actual baby out. We're trying to get her to take the child out because she was in possession of the stroller and I stopped. >> What are they taking >> right now? I'm taking more than that. You can't tell people. >> Can you tell her I'm taking I'm not telling her anything to the car. I don't care how any of you stay. No, I'm not. >> You are. >> Do you want to? >> Jillian thought she was slick, tucking a Grinch blanket under her stroller like it was a magic trick. >> Park security wasn't playing, though. They'd been watching her every move. When officers rolled up, her attitude screamed drama queen energy. Oh, honey, you're not running this show. That loud defiance, just guilt shouting louder than the roller coasters. >> That meant I have nothing to do with her. >> I'm a law enforcement officer. that stroller, that person, you and him are detained. Okay? If you feel like you're not, I can put you in handcuffs and make you detained. Okay? >> Because you're with them. >> You've been identified in the party. >> Okay? But you've been identified in the party. >> I haven't been identified enough. >> You're not leaving. >> Bring him back. Listen, you just can't. Shut the up. >> All right. You're not going to do that either. >> This is this is stuff that's been created. >> Okay. You either cooperate or don't. They didn't. I looked up. I don't think I only steal from >> I don't know that. >> No, they didn't. I didn't. No, they didn't. I stole a blanket. >> The bottom of the train controller has stuff in it. >> No, it doesn't. >> No, it doesn't. This is from last time we came here. And this is my son's book. >> Okay. So, if she's the only one identified, let them go. >> Let them go. >> Let them go. >> Good. Goodbye. >> Goodbye. Can you take my >> solar stage? >> Take my take the baby out. >> Take the baby out the solar stage. >> What am I going to do? What do I got to do to get hurt? >> We will we will investigate it. Okay. >> I don't care if I got to pay for this [ __ ] I'll pay for it. We'll >> work it out. >> If you want to wait at your car, a security officer will be there. >> All right. I apologize, man. I don't mean I don't mean to be a headache, man. >> Okay. We only need one LP in there. Only one. I have to be in here. I'm the lead. I am the lead. I have to say, Of course you are. >> Here's the issue we have again and again. >> I get you. >> Relax. >> Five people tell us three different things. >> So, I was communicating to you what was going on. >> 17 different people. Who's the one that saw what, when, where? >> I was with her the entire time. >> With who? I'll talk to her. >> Even though I was going to get my sister out on me. >> Relax. Relax. You don't have to. I'll >> you have your ID? >> Yes, I do. >> Make sure you're okay. >> All right. So, the issue becomes this. Too many chiefs >> and nobody knows what's happening. >> Okay. Okay. >> I'm going to explain to you what happened as somebody who made >> I would like that. It would be very helpful for a law enforcement officer to know what you guys are detaining. >> I understand. I do need you to also give me the same respect I'm about to give you because right now it does feel like you're coming at me kind of harsh and I understand that you're stressed out cuz there's a lot of people here. >> I'm not stressed out. I'm telling you what I need from you and you guys have not given it to us. >> I'm just asking you just to bring it down. Go ahead. Um, I witnessed her go up to a display on the carts out in Citywalk, pick up that blanket, put it on top of her canopy, walk away a safe distance, >> far away enough for purchasing reach to be out of the question. >> And I asked her, >> "What store was this?" >> Ma'am, I'm not I'm not answering. >> It was a cart >> and she had gone from the cart, which is a little bit before the Coca-Cola bottle, the big one, >> and she had gotten almost to the exit of the Universal. The stroller stunt was bold, but using her kid as a prop? That's low, even for a theme park heist. Jillian's yelling for what? Like she's auditioning for a reality TV meltdown while her family's caught in the crossfire. Officers tried to keep it chill, but she's out here acting like accountability is a foreign concept. >> Studio store closest to Cowfish Grill. I gave her plenty of time to turn around at any point, and she chose not to. That's fine. Not that big of a deal. Correct. But it became a big deal upon the stop. >> They want to press on the $40. >> Okay. >> They want to >> anybody. Where do you Where are you from? >> New York. >> Ooh. So, you don't qualify for anything that lets let you walk out? >> Seriously? >> Yeah. This is in New York. And here we take people to jail. So, Yeah. In New York, California, you know, they let people go for little things. Here they they don't and we take people to jail. So that your face is >> Oh, yeah. Maybe. I don't know. They're discussing it cuz we're not responsible for the pressing charges. We're just responsible for this. I'm just saying normal. Sometimes we can give a notice to appear or something like that, but you don't qualify since you're from New York. >> Jillian. >> I'm Officer Leman. Okay. I know it's been a kind of a a hectic little 20 minutes, but before I talk to you and ask you some questions, I got to read you some warnings, okay? Cuz you are detained. You are not free to leave. Okay? >> Your other family members, I believe, have left, I think they're still in the garage, okay? But for me to get to talk to you and ask you some questions or for you to answer, I have to read you these constitutional rights. Have you ever been read your constitutional Miranda warnings before? I I think >> You think you probably heard him on the news, perhaps on the radio, maybe in a movie or two. >> When I ask you a question, >> go ahead and just hang that up for you. When I ask you a question, just go ahead and and say yes or no. You understand it? Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> So, what are we doing here today, Jillian? >> Having a good time with my family. >> Okay. And obviously that has ended cuz now you have five cops around you. >> Yeah. Why would that have ended? >> Cuz I'm a [ __ ] >> Okay. I've never said that. Nobody here has said that. Those are your words. >> Why would we say that though? >> I stole a blanket. >> You stole a blanket. Okay. What kind of blanket was it look like? >> Grinch blanket. >> You have the color of it. Is it green, blue, >> green, >> red? >> A red blanket. And it has Grinch on it. How much does that cost, do you think? >> $40. >> Okay. Where'd you take it from? >> The boardwalk. the boardwalk. So, like not parks, but in just pretty close to here. >> Okay. Where was it at? >> I don't know. >> You don't know where the blanket was? >> Oh, I found a stroller. >> No. No. Where'd you Where'd you take it from? Like, was it from a store or was it from like a >> like a kiosk? >> A kiosk. Okay. What' you do with it? >> Put it on my shoulder. >> Put it on your stroller. Did you ever intend to pay for it or >> No. >> No. Okay. Have you done something like this before? >> Stole? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. In New York. in New York. >> Okay. >> Jillian's story unraveled faster than a cheap souvenir. She admitted to snagging the $40 blanket. Her I didn't mean to excuse landed like a flat soda. Jillian's tears came too late like she wasn't crying when she stashed that blanket. Dot loss prevention had her unlock tracking her from the kiosk to nearly the exit. That's definitely not a mistake. >> Okay, so you've been pretty honest. I appreciate that. Is there anything else in and around this car on your person that you did not pay for? Did you hand anything off to your friends, family? Because here's the deal, Jillian. They're going to look >> this like the cup and stuff you have to it's got to be scanned before you get a drink. >> No, no, no. I I understand that. I I do. But but what they're alleging and I'll tell you I'll put I'll put the >> bag I was holding. It's not even my bag. I was holding it. >> Okay. Just listen to what I'm going to I'm going to tell you. Okay. The scenario is they make allegations. Okay. I'm a letter of the law guy. I'm a pretty big policy dude. I I I adhere as best I can to your rights as a US citizen or a human being in general. Okay. And I appreciate that you're being honest with us. Okay. There's still something being alleged that you may have had other items in your possession either whether stolen by you or your family member that you handed off. >> No, I didn't hand anything to anybody. >> Okay. >> If you're talking about that bag? >> Yes. Then like did I hand somebody the bag? >> Right. >> Yeah. I tried to handle the bag and my kid, >> right? But then what was in the bag? >> I don't know. >> Is that unpaid merchandise? >> I don't even know what's in the bag. Honestly, >> who's it belong to? >> Uh my friend Lynn and my mom. >> Who's Lynn? >> They're not here. >> They're not here. >> I can talk to you real quick. >> Yes, ma'am. What's going on? >> Can I please take it? >> So, here's the deal. >> I'm begging you. This is this is where the scenario comes in. There was an opportunity given when they identified hers themselves and they again there's a scenario where she had the opportunity originally before she took the blanket concealed it and walked away. >> So can I please I'll pay for two of them >> whether that's not the point. >> That's not the point. >> The point is not the money. It's the intent. Okay. Because again some people come here and have a good time and some people come here and make bad choice. >> I mean I had a good time. I'm not going to lie. And we we want you guys to, but again, she made a decision. It >> wasn't a smart decision. >> I know. We are literally I feel so bad for her son. >> It it Well, that's she's saying the same thing. She's super remorseful. >> Stop touching people, please. >> It's good. It's okay, buddy. It's all right. >> Like, I I promise I will give you the money for everything. I don't even care. >> That would that would only work in a scenario where she had the opportunity to pay a kiosk porker with the money that she had. >> I don't even want the damn blanket. I understand that it's not the port. >> I know, but I don't want her to go to the Orange County. I know >> that's going to have to happen. >> So, how long will she be there for? >> It's an overnight out once she'll call you. >> We're leaving. We're not even from here. We leave. >> And that's the point. It's to teach people a lesson and educate them in the fact that crime to deal with doesn't belong. >> There's nobody else I can talk to. >> No. Get you guys all sorted out. What's up, buddy? >> What's up, buddy? >> Is she banned? >> Yes, she will be trespassed, unfortunately. So, she's not able to come back to this Universal Studio >> like ever. >> Ever? >> Really? Oh, thanks for >> You can go to one in California and go to one in China. >> Not going to happen for me. Not >> just what? It's just one of those things where plenty of >> When the cuffs came out, Jillian's tough girl act melted hard. Too late, sis. Orlando's not New York and they don't play the let it slide game. Her family's begging, "We're leaving." But the only trip she's taking is to county jail. That Grinch blanket, it stole her vacation and her dignity. Are are we all kicked out? >> No, just hurt. That's why a minimum I wanted to identify and they identified both of you guys originally. They didn't say anything about your boyfriend. >> People do always say like, "Oh, you are twins." No, we're really not. >> Well, red and black are two different colors. They should have said that. >> I agree. >> Not for she has brown eyes, I have blue. >> It was confusing. Well, that I would never know that. I know. >> I go for clothing and then, you know, all that type of stuff. So, >> it's too late for that, ma'am. >> Sorry. I know you spoke to a couple people here. Uh, just so you know my name because my name is going to be on the paperwork. I'm Corpor Shaw with the Orlando Police Department just like these gentlemen here. I know you spoke to officer Leman. I was here when he read and everything. So basically what happens is since you guys had an issue with everything, um, normally they do some paperwork, they let you go, but at this point they decided to press charges because of all the nonsense that happened afterwards. I know hindsight's 2020 if you knew that, but here's where we are. So, the problem is you're from New York, so we can't even give you a notice to appear for because some for sometimes 33 bucks. I have to take you to jail. I there's no way I can just let you walk out the door. Normally, there's a way that we could and then you show up to court or you don't, but here we take people to jail. So, now they have all their ducks in a row. It is what it is. So, what we're doing is once they get done looking through your stuff, we're going to give this items to your family and they have to leave. >> Okay. Send off the rest, please. >> Put your hands looking for a prank. There you go. [Music] And we I know we already asked you and it's not a trick. We're not having like potions and weed nothing else on you. >> I said out here we don't care about that kind of stuff. >> I said nope. We don't care. >> I thought you said coke. >> No, no, no. But you are going to go through this machine that can tell if you're hiding something in there. >> I don't have anything. >> Okay. I just want to >> it will it will show them rods in your legs and arms. So if you have anything anywhere else, it will find it. >> Don't make a worse scenario until it work. >> You got her ID7. [Music] Do you have any 380? >> Yeah. >> All right, Jillian. I give everybody the same speech. You see this car right here? It's not nothing foreign to it. Anything ends up back there that's foreign that doesn't belong there. >> I don't have nothing that I brought. >> Okay. [Music] >> All right. >> Jillian's blanket caper turned a dream vacation into a total disaster. Over a $40 souvenir, she scarred her kid, got banned from Universal, and earned a night in jail. One honest purchase could have kept her day magical, but she rolled the dice on a five-finger discount and lost big. Jillian was charged with petty theft for stealing the Grinch blanket and was banned from returning to Universal Orlando Resort. She pled no contest and paid a fine.
