being driven recklessly on the road prompting immediate action to ensure Public Safety the officer activated their patrol lights and signaled the car to pull over the driver complied and the officer initiated a routine traffic stop however what unfolded next was far more alarming than a simple traffic violation I don't know why I have no hi hi Qs police how are you good I'm confused sorry I'm why are you so confused why you're pulling me over well you didn't stop at the stop sign you didn't use your blinker I didn't see the stop sign I'm sorry well you slowed down for it you just didn't stop at it oh sorry I'm on the phone I'm trying to find like I have nowhere to stay tonight I'm trying to figure okay sounds good do you have a driver's license with you yeah of course well what do you mean mango it's the truth I know I'm trying to figure out what's going on today at a British columia yeah okay so it's a rental car assuming yeah yeah know I'm supposed to be staying at my friends he's not answering now so I'm like do I get a hotel what do I do okay understand trying to figure everything out how long's it been since somebody was smoking weed in the car never never I can smell it really yeah oh okay so nothing there's no there's no marijuana nobody was smoking in there Nole as the officer approached the vehicle they discovered something completely unexpected the officer noticed that the driver a female was smoking illegal drugs inside the vehicle this discovery heightened the seriousness of the situation and necessitated a thorough investigation the officer asked the female for her registration rid license and other pertinent information while the female provided the registration and some other requested documents she failed to produce any license or documentation permitting her to possess or use the drugs this raised immediate concerns as the possession of drugs without proper authorization was a clear violation of the law okay so sorry one sec mang one sec hi okay so when you're driving around MH you have to use your blanker you have to stop it stop signs I understand that totally understand I'm just kind of rattled that he's not answering and now I'm like I'm always very organized and like I don't have everything figured out tonight and I'm kind of freaking out a little bit so I went watch the sunset and then here we are I was on the phone I'm sorry I'm distracted gotcha all right so there's no weed in the car correct absolutely not okay cuz now you you sprayed a bunch of stuff so I can smell that moisturizer on okay step out of the car for me stand over on the sidewalk hang up the phone M go can I get a second for vehicle search cor 86 sidewalk never still the seat what did I it I told you I said I smelled burned marijuana in the car it's not car where is it then I smoked it on the beach at the sunset like see that's a different that's a different thing then no I don't have any marijuana no I don't know what you're talking about like there's nothing in the car you asked me if it was in the car and I was like oh okay so we're going to split hairs then so can you can you understand my perception then with versus you know with no there's nothing here and all that stuff versus I just smoked on the beach a little while ago okay that's a whole different thing cuz now I don't believe what you're telling me okay you know what I mean yeah for sure okay so you don't have a Florida medical marijuana card correct cuz I have a BC One okay well that that doesn't work in Florida just so you know okay well I didn't know that okay and I'm just telling you okay so we're going to search the car if we don't find any weed great if you tell me that there's weed in there and then I find it and it's just a little bit then I don't really give two shits about that if you tell me there's none and then I find some then I can be an [ __ ] okay it's your decision so I'm going to wait for another officer we're going to check Okay so what like what am I supposed I what am I supposed to do in this situation the female started giving inconsistent and conflicting stories making it difficult for the officer to ascertain the truth her responses were evasive and she appeared unwilling to cooperate fully with the investigation the officer reminded her that the possession of drugs in a vehicle is legal only with proper licensing but she was unable to produce any such license to gather more evidence the officer searched the vehicle during the search the officer discovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs hidden inside the car this discovery escalated the gravity of the situation confirming that the female was not only smoking drugs but also in possession of a considerable amount of Contraband nothing you can you've already told me that there's nothing in there so we're not going to find anything so this is a non-issue right okay so that's it that's that's the end of it I don't understand like I I'm from BC everything's legal so what did I do wrong so it smells like burned marijuana in your vehicle it is illegal to smoke marijuana in a vehicle in the State of Florida okay but I'm telling you I can smell it coming from the car so that gives me probable cause to search the car for evidence of possession okay so isn't it legal to possess marijuana not without a Florida medical marijuana card even even though I'm from BC correct what do you mean there's nothing more to that this isn't like to you like I don't understand like no I'm going to find it okay cuz and then if it is not in a prescription container and you're possessing it you can go to jail okay so I don't understand how I okay so that's it so I'm just waiting for another officer to get here that's it what if I don't understand what I did wrong I'm like the most legit person ever MH I'm a business owner and I just feel like I didn't do anything wrong here okay so am I just supposed to give you what's in the car and then we can move uncooperative she repeatedly accused the officer of wrongful arrest and insisted that the problem was being blown out of proportion her accusations did not deter the officer who continued to perform their duties with diligence the officer officer ignored the female's attempts to divert attention from the evidence and focused on following the proper procedures for handling the case because like when we talked you said you got that marijuana sir I'm sorry but this is going to really wreck everything for my business and everything set for I'm like honestly this will ruin my hold on let me I I aggressive resisting the officer's efforts and making the arrest process more challenging the officer maintained control of the situation using appropriate Force to ensure the female was safely taken into custody she was handcuffed and placed inside the patrol vehicle for transport to the police station you going to my station um I have to weigh that oh I could do that if you weigh it you end up in court over that I know but it's a chain of custody thing that I don't want to have to explain later it's stupid that's but um start getting their processing everything yeah that car can't stay there can it no that sucks sir I need all my things yeah I have your purse and but my luggage my luggage my everything's in the back of that car you'll be able to get your car tomorrow but sir can my can my backpack like you want your backpack to go with you I have no CL like this is what's going to happen okay you're going to get you're going to get processed you're going to spend the night in jail you're going to see the judge in the morning all right and you're you're going to get an arraignment okay that's what does any of that mean so what that means is the judge is going you're going to go before the judge he's going to determine whether those probable cause for your arrest if there was he's going to let you out on bond let you out without a bond or keep you until your core date which nine times out of 10 I can't see why he wouldn't let you out with the bond and then you pay your bond and then you're out and then you have to you know come back to court to face the charges but my suit okay so all my my my work computers are in there my suitcases is it possible do you want your computers to go with you to jail cuz what's going to happen is your car is going to be towed okay with all its contents in it and then tomorrow when you get out you can go pick up your car there's not going to be a hold on your car so you can pick it up okay so and if I bring my backpack with my bond what does that mean the bond is when you're when the judge lets you out on bail okay and what is that mean okay so bail meaning they don't have this in Canada okay so bail is you're paying money to get out because the money you'll get back after you come back and go to go to trial so that you don't flee how do I get the money for that like hundreds of thousands of dollars it depends on the judge so it's 10% of whatever the judge sets so let's say he sets a a $1,000 bail you bond out for with $100 and that's like a standard number is it like hundreds of thousands of dollars no it's I mean for this no it's not going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars so like keep you know rob somebody or anything like that I understand my whole life is over now like I don't I can't go home I'm literally running for my problems at home and now I'm running my problems from here and now I like I'm [ __ ] I'm [ __ ] like I don't understand how this is my life like what the [ __ ] man like this is crazy I might as well just [ __ ] drive off a [ __ ] Bridge tomorrow do that my whole career everything's [ __ ] now sir I can't have anything on my record I've never had anything I've never this is crazy I've never ever in my life the female was presented in court to face formal charges these charges included a traffic violation for reckless driving and the unlawful possession of illegal drugs inside the vehicle the court examined the evidence including the drugs recovered from the vehicle the officer's report and any relevant documentation the charges reflected the seriousness of the
