We've tried so many different things. We just were running out of options of trying to find a punishment that would actually work. Hey. GET OUT. HEY. CAN I TAKE A PICTURE OF ME, BABY? BEING A cop is a job that's often unpredictable. Some days can be boring as hell, but occasionally officers come across insane situations like they're coming straight from a Hollywood movie. And lucky for us, they have cameras recording every moment. So now let's uncover some of the most shocking moments caught on body cam. On March 13th, 2021 in Florida, police received a call from a man claiming he'd stabbed someone in self-defense. When an officer responded to the location, he found the suspect on the porch standing over what appeared to be a body. The man's clear lack of remorse was just bone-chilling. All right. Come out here. Do me a favor. Um just hang out right here while I see if I can try to pulse on him. Can I go take a shower? Not yet. Cancel. All right, let me get some uh information for him from you. You injured at No, don't go back in there. You injured at all? Are you injured? No. 54. The young man you see, who was casually asking to take a shower just after stabbing someone to death, is 30-year-old Colby Allen Parker. The victim is his grandfather, 77-year-old Ronald Wells Sr. The elderly man had stab wounds as well as visible blunt force trauma. After checking the victim's pulse, the officer confirmed the man was dead. Hey, he's confirmed. You guys cancel. He's confirmed. Yeah. All right, you can't go back inside this tape, okay? All good? Yeah, I'm good. I'm good. Is there anything else that we need to get done right now, or Uh haven't secured the dog inside. It's an aggressive nice pitbull. Actually chewed on the deceased. Ripped his arm off. Flesh off his arm. Where Right on the front porch. Nobody else is in the house. The dog's in there. This is the the individual that was involved. Uh He was a little high. Last time we were out here last week, a week and a half ago, 92 Bravo uh over heroin. Guy took a bunch of dope. Overdosed. I gave him They gave the scene and gave him four doses of Narcan. He got up to 10 it up the road. We found him. They released him even though he told me I'm going back to his family. He went back there and started fighting. He's got blood all over his hands. So how do you want to write a statement? At first glance, this situation appears to be the result of a drug-fueled domestic dispute spiraling out of control. The suspect seemed unusually eager to end the encounter, willingly approaching the police vehicle. That's when they asked him to explain what happened. Officer over time, you guys are on the front porch. And then what happened? I was sitting here smoking some weed I got from right here down the road. And and all I do is smoke weed, but I stopped. I've been clean for like 3 months now, 2 months now, something like that. I don't remember. And uh I told myself I wasn't going to smoke weed, but my pops said it's cool as long as I stay away from all the other bull You know what I mean? And I was smoking weed and it's all I was smoking and my had to put something in it to make me feel weird and and then that that was it. I was sitting sitting at the table and the mo lunged at me with a knife with a knife right there. It's laying on the table. It's like a steak knife was And this happened inside? Yes. Okay. How did he get out? on the front porch. Okay. Colby's story was that after smoking something strange, his grandfather attacked him. So he then took the knife from him and stabbed him in self-defense. The officers here will soon discover the truth, which is much more harrowing. At this point, however, they've already begun noticing the suspect's strange behavior. You sure you don't need EMS check out? You said you're feeling fine. You want them to at least check your vitals, make sure everything's okay? Yeah, I mean we'll get them to come check you out. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. You sure? I mean they're they're right down the road, so it's not a big deal. They can come at least check your vitals. You said something's not right. You think something was in your your marijuana. I don't want to not give you medical attention if you think something's wrong. Yes, I need medical attention. Yeah. Like now. Okay. I'm done. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, come up this way. All of a sudden, Colby started acting strange like something was wrong with him or like he was high on some sort of strange drug. Remember that just a moment ago, he was standing over his grandfather's body on the porch completely calm. In fact, he was so relaxed that the officer didn't see the need to handcuff him, but that was soon going to change. You ain't got no weapons on you or anything, right? Yeah. Hang on. Don't move. Put the axe on body cam. Get out of the Use the view and just get a couple I'm going to pat him down real quick. Hey. Hey, don't do that, buddy. Don't do that. That's not good. Get down. You're going to keep acting like that, it's going to get bad. Okay. Sir. You said you were armed. What are you armed with? What do you What do you have on you? What do you got on you? Turn and place him against the car. We're not going to keep playing this game. If we're going to have some issues. Anything there? Get this Grab it then. Yeah. Scoop this thing up. I have it. See if I find anything or not. No, not weapon-wise. Nothing? Okay. Let me search you. Surprisingly, even after that silly stunt, the officer still didn't handcuff the suspect. Surely if they'd known exactly what he did to his grandfather, they would have approached him with their weapons raised. Instead, they politely asked the man if it was okay to take some pictures. All right, can I take some pictures of you? Both ears. Put your hands out like this. Turn over. You don't have any other injuries on you? You have no injuries at all? No. Face shots. Here you go. Oh, oh. Can I see your gun, bro? No. Where was the knife at originally? Do me a favor and just sit down. No, buddy. All right. Colby, have a seat. As the minutes passed, some of the officers started getting suspicious of his supposed self-defense story, and they asked why the knife was on the porch. The young man didn't answer at first, but a moment later, he pulled something out of his pockets that none of the officers were ready for. There's definitely nobody else in the house, correct? There's a dog that's aggressive. Other than that, I don't know where Junior is. I asked and he didn't know. So Oh, oh, oh. What? What? What? Junior? Yeah. Where's Junior? I got Ronnie Junior right here. Ronnie. Okay, what is What is that? Those are ears. Those are ears. Can you hold those out for me? Right. So I'll take these from you. I got it. I got it. I got it. Got it. Let me grab a paper bag. I'll grab it. It was later revealed that Colby attacked his grandfather with a baseball bat. He then proceeded to stab him with a butcher knife and cut off his ears. In his bedroom, officers later found an apron with a phrase emblazoned on it saying The Family Butcher. And guess what? Plastic human ears with fake blood were attached to the garment. Crazy enough? Well, watch what he did next. Hey. Get out. No, no, no. Get off. He's trying to get the police gun. Got it? No. Okay. 33 traffic light, we're fighting him. Stay your ass down. That's precisely why the suspect should have been handcuffed immediately upon arrival. It was is very poor judgment call. The problem here is that there were plenty of red flags, including the man pulling out his grandpa's ears. Yet, the officers failed to cuff him even then. In the end, it took several officers and lots of power to restrain Colby Parker. Stop. Stop. Back here. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Wake up. Oh, he's awake. He's awake. He's kicking his legs. Yeah, he's breathing. He's breathing. Colby, you need to stop resisting. Stop resisting now. Colby, you told the wife to keep it up. Give him the arm. We're just trying to get the legs up. Let's just Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Colby Allen Parker later confessed to the murder, with Colby saying that he wanted his grandfather to be with his deceased grandmother. He was charged with domestic murder, battery on law enforcement, and resisting with violence. He was sentenced to 50 years in state prison. Now we've seen how the officers instincts failed them and almost got them in trouble. In our next case, detectives had their guns drawn the moment they entered the suspect's yard. We're in Flagler County, Florida, and the cops were looking for Dorothy Singer. They suspected the woman of killing her husband. [Music] Door opens out. Out swing. [Music] FLAGLER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SEARCH WARRANT, OPEN THE DOOR. FLAGLER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SEARCH WARRANT, OPEN THE DOOR. FLAGLER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SEARCH WARRANT, OPEN THE DOOR. DOG. SHOW YOUR HANDS. SLOWLY open the door and get control of your dog, okay? Sheriff's Office. The detectives were looking for Dorothy's husband, Charles William "Butch" Singer, who'd been reported missing. Dorothy led detectives on a wild goose chase for weeks, claiming Charles went to another state for a job. She even sent messages to his family impersonating him and used his bank accounts. But this entire time, Charles was very close by. All right, right here. The aggressive dog is in the car. So, just Don't open it. All right. Good morning, guys. Sorry to wake you up like this. No, it's okay. Um Is the house completely clear? Okay. Do you guys want to sit on your couch? Inside? Okay. It's cold. All right. Just go ahead and go inside. Watch yourself going up the stairs. As soon as the officers confronted Dorothy about her lies, she asked for a lawyer. She was then placed in the patrol car with her daughter as the officers searched the property. Previously, they'd searched the property with her permission, but nothing was found. However, one of the detectives noticed something suspicious, so he knew exactly where to look now. And I want to trample too much. That's not really No. I mean, it is, but it's not. Are you guys going to pull the tarp off? No, I'm not planning to. I'm just going to lift it just enough. Okay. Stand over there. Yeah, I'm thinking probably remove remove some brush. Peel the uh the pallet back. I'd like to leave the tarp as much just like that as we can, you know? I I do. Well, we'll peel the the the pallet back as much as we can, and then just just lift the entire boat up. I mean, and if we verify uh the body's there, then we'll just What do y'all think? I did take pretty good photographs of this all the way around when I was out here earlier. Awesome. As as is. Great. So, you got awesome pictures of the uh pallet, the bottle. Pallet, the Yeah, everything. Okay, perfect. around all sides. Awesome. So. Are we good to go? Sure. When the detective searched the property with Dorothy on a previous occasion, he noticed Dorothy became suspicious when they passed this old boat covered with a tarp. So, this time, it was the first thing they decided to inspect, already assuming what might be lying beneath. I have um tarps if we need them. I have some little shovels and stuff. Okay. And extra gloves as well. If you want to How often you want me to take pictures? Just pile it um somewhere. Yeah, I think so. I think so. Uh lift right here. What have you got in All right. We're all set. Oh, yeah. Yeah, great. Yep. All right. Uh we got we got to pull over. All right. Yeah. Take a picture of it. Yeah, sure. It didn't take long for the officers to spot Charles' body. He'd been shot five times with a .22 caliber firearm. Soon after, his sister, who instigated the whole search, provided police with a Winchester rifle, a .22. She'd gotten the gun back from Dorothy just after Charles went missing. The ballistics experts confirmed a match. With overwhelming evidence against Dorothy, the charges were clear. Singer. Morning, ma'am. Being charged this morning with first-degree murder with a firearm, is it your intention to hire a private attorney to represent you today, ma'am? That was a no? Yes, ma'am. Okay. Then let me ask you some questions about your finances. Are you working? I was. Okay. Where are you working, ma'am? No, manufacturing. And how much do you earn? Uh $400 a week. Do you own a house or any land? No. Do you own a vehicle or a truck? No. I will conditionally appoint the public defender's office to represent you today, ma'am. You will need to fill out more detailed financial documentation at your next court date if you wish to continue with their services, okay? Okay. When she realized it was game over, Dorothy claimed that she and Charles had an argument that got physical and the gun went off by accident. Well, that's pretty strange because the gun went off five times, four of which were head shots, and the fake messages from Charles were traced to be from inside the house. And even after all those months had passed, blood stains were still found inside. All right. I have reviewed the 707 arrest affidavit and the warrant signed by myself. I will find probable cause. Um state is it your intention to file the appropriate motion to detain Miss Singer? Yes, ma'am. Okay. Mr. Warren, anything this No. No objection as to PC. Okay. Um I anticipate being appointed. I've already been out to uh see her. Uh and if we do file a bond motion, we'll file that appropriately within the next week or two. Okay. I'll leave the bond as set at none, and I had also made a note on there no contact with the victim's family or any witnesses in the case. So, I will leave that in place as well. Thank you, Miss Singer. In addition, the cops even found evidence that Dorothy was planning to fake her own death and then flee the state. When it was all said and done, Dorothy Singer was found guilty. She was sentenced to mandatory life in prison with no possibility of release or parole. My wife What's her name? It's my wife, I mean. Where is she at? Is she okay? This man is Harold G. Seaton Seaton, or as his friends like to call him, Bud. Once a competitive bodybuilder, now at age 79, Bud lives in a recreational vehicle in Perry, Georgia, along with his 60-year-old wife, Debbie. He'd been struggling with poor health for over a decade, and then on February 7th, 2021, he did the unthinkable. 911, what's your emergency? Uh my neighbor, he just came up through my yard all covered in blood. I guess what he's saying is he and his wife had a big argument and he might have killed her. Okay, what's the address, sir? It's 2356 Elka Road. All right. And do you know where he is right now? Yeah, he just walked into my house. He's sitting in the kitchen. Does he have uh any weapons on him? Well, I found a knife, but she took it from him. He said his wife called 911. That's all I got is the middle name was Bud, possibly 80 years of age. Debbie was Debbie in the residence with the caller. Caller is ringing the neighbor. I'm not sure on the address where they live. I don't think this is going to be the Come up here. What's going on, fella? Keep your hands up where I can see them. Where's he at? Where is he at? He's in the house. With my wife. Since they had limited information, the cops proceeded with extreme caution, with their only knowledge being that a murder might have been committed. In their minds, everyone was a potential suspect. The man who approached them, however, was the one who called the cops. He then told the cops about the surreal experience that he just had with his next door neighbor, Bud. He said, "Nate, are you home?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you got a gun?" I said, "Yeah." I said, "Yeah, Bud, what you need?" He said, "I need you to shoot me cuz me and Deb had it out. She left. And she gone." Yeah. I said, "Bud, I would have let you walk out the dog pen." Yeah. I walked out there and he didn't have any yards out here. Blood all over his shirt and everything. He had it out with And uh camped out there behind me. Do you know Is he in the house right now? Yeah. I guess he was my wife. I mean, he ain't going to do it. He got no weapon. Imagine your neighbor coming to your house, asking you to shoot him. Safe to say that's not how anyone plans to start their day. But that's what the 911 caller experienced that day. After chatting with the deputies, the man headed back inside to get Bud. As Bud came out of the house, he was greeted by officers waiting right outside. You're not going to get hurt, okay? Can you tell us what's going on? You okay? What's going on? I was supposed to get operated on Monday. I've been operated on since I was four. I What's the other doctor here. Uh-huh. Shoulder. I tore the shoulder out. That's what they Where'd you get all the blood from? What'd you say? Me and my wife and me. Where is she at? She's down in the house. She's a good woman, but me and her she wanted me to get operated on Monday and I wanted to wait on it. Okay. I I've been operated on Is she okay? She's gone. Generally, marital issues that escalate into violence stem from serious issues like infidelity or betrayal. But in this case, apparently the fight arose because a concerned wife just wanted her husband to get the surgery he needs. At this stage, the cops are still holding out hope that the wife might be alive. She's gone. Cover her. Cover him. Come on. Get us, officer. 20 dusty. Cover that there. Huh? Got blood on the With the woman nowhere to be found, the officers proceeded to search the perimeter, but there were still no signs of her. As the deputies carefully inspected the yard, as well as several sheds, one officer went into the RV to look for her or any clues that would help locate her. Where could this woman possibly be? [Music] You good in there? [Music] Where she's at? She's on the back bed. She's under the blanket. As it turned out, Debbie was there all along, but the officer didn't see her because she was covered with a blanket, a pillow, and some clothes. When killers feel remorse because they've killed someone they love, they usually cover their victim or at least the victim's face. But even though he might have been remorseful, Bud here was pretty calm. What do you think of it right now just because of the blood now? I I understand that, but there's also other things going on, okay? Yeah. I don't know. I actually I actually showed him the shoulder. I said it was Just did right there. That's what this is down in that car. He's on the phone right now, okay? Box. Got the knife and the pants in it. And that's his phone right there, next to it. Is there any way somebody like this could really believe what they couldn't see We're going to We're going to make sure everything's taken care of. I got to go and bring you over and walk you back out. What's that? Yeah, I'll stay with you. Bud, you're going to stay with me for a minute, okay? He's going to bring the car up to you. Make it a little bit easier. The officers obviously took it easy on the old man. After all, he wasn't resisting or posing a threat in any way. The question that lingered in the air was, how could this have all happened? What made this frail old man turn to such violence? Maybe his boss, who also happens to be the owner of the property, could shed some light on the matter. Hey, how you doing? Hey. Yeah, we can't really say much. The one thing I can ask you, I understand you're the property owner, you have a right to be here, but this is an active crime scene. So, we do need to keep everybody out. So, you know No, the the the entire property is a crime scene right now. Then we'll still investigate. When they called me, they said, "Nate, my aunt's hurt." He said, "Can you Where you at?" I said, "I'm just getting up." I said, "Can you come out here and tell me what's going on?" He said, "Bud just called me and told me to keep quiet." And uh he didn't have enough nerve to tell me what was going on. I said, "Bud, where are we? Can I feed him?" I said, "You better call 911." Yeah. That's right. Now, basically, I just stood there but his spontaneous utterances were he couldn't take it anymore. She wanted him to have another surgery on his shoulder that he's supposed to have next week. And he didn't want to because of the pain and everything he's in. Apparently, that's his boss from the country club. Apparently, he's also got some heart issue. Well, that's been He was going on it. Um yeah, he couldn't take it anymore and so now it's on. Apparently, Bud had already had surgery and he was in constant pain due to his deteriorating health. Bud even told them he drank bleach in an attempt to end his life. While the officers investigated, their colleagues took the man to the hospital to have him checked for injuries and retrieve the man's bloody clothes as evidence. You what? They're working on getting you something that way you can use the bathroom. Yeah, we'll get you in just a second. They're going to get you something um use the bathroom with. And then we'll get you out of that and I just close it, okay? Yes, sir. Are you having Are you hearing any voices? Something? Are you hearing any voices? Anything like that? You need to unplug this. Hear me. Okay. [Music] We were pulling stuff It's easy to feel sorry for Harold, but the sad truth here is is that he allowed his anger to extinguish his wife's life. Deborah used to be a well-regarded school bus driver in Houston County. She obviously loved her husband and wanted the best for him. Instead of thanking her, he stabbed the woman to death with a knife. Later that year, he was convicted of murder and given a life sentence. Debbie's tragic death was undoubtedly heartbreaking. However, the fate of Timothy Ferguson, a 15-year-old, is perhaps even more unsettling. On the 6th of July, 2022, police responded to a call from Shanda Vander Ark, claiming her son had fallen from his bunk bed and was unresponsive. When they arrived on scene, she was sitting on the stairs crying. Hello, ma'am. I'm Officer Stefanik. Right now, we got some people coming over to talk to you, okay? Do you have another son inside the house? I'm 20. Are they sleeping still right now? One of them is, yeah. The 20-year-old's awake. 20? No, the 20-year-old's awake. Okay. He's been wearing really loose clothes the last couple weeks. He's really skinny. He's really skinny and I didn't notice till this morning cuz he wouldn't like I asked him if he's okay and he would not answer me. Like, he's 15. He's been He He He has autism? Yeah. Like a high functioning? Yeah. When Shanda said Timothy was skinny, it was the understatement of the century. This poor boy weighed only 69 lb, half the normal weight for a boy his age and height. According to his mother, Timothy was on a hunger strike, but he took it way too far. I saw he did this back in I don't know second week of January for almost 3 weeks. And then he finally he ate um He ate something last night. I can't remember what it was now. I'm sorry. It's okay. Where's your Where's your husband now? He's down at his parents house cuz he can't get in our house cuz there's no room. He can't get up the stairs. Oh. And nobody's answering the phone at their house. [Music] Um You can go back in the house if you want, but I can't. I got to keep the the basement secure. You can't go down there, okay? I just I had no idea. I would have taken him in or something. Of course, Shanda's lying through her teeth. The sad truth here is that she kept Timothy locked in that basement. This young man suffered unimaginable abuse In addition to starvation, he was also restrained and punished physically and mentally. Watch as his mom tries to lie her way out of what she's done. I wasn't super awake. I heard a sound. And I came down and he's kind of laying on his side kind of like what the heck. And um And I picked I I I reached out to him. He I'm sorry. That's all right. Oh my god. Oh my god. Um Yeah. And I reached out and he pulled himself up. And I asked if he's okay and I just asked if he hit his head. He said no, I think I hit my my my knees on my chest. I think. He couldn't obviously he couldn't tell me how he fell. Um Oh my god. No. I don't know what to do. Oh my god. He said it's okay. And then Do you have other family here in town? Well, I called them, but they're not answering. And my father-in-law's an attorney. Best thing to do is surround yourself with family. Help you get cuz you know, right now you're going through it by yourself and you I mean you get overwhelmed. Oh my god. How could I have missed that? If you've been watching our channel, you can probably spot the telltale signs of deception. Watch the way she switches gears going from dramatic sobbing one second to giving rapid-fire answers to the questions the cops ask. She also covers her face a lot. Yet the officer doesn't seem to realize yet that Shanda has a horrible secret. Now, what's your first name, ma'am? Shanda. S H A N D A. And what's your What's your last name? Is it Ferguson also? No, it's Vander Ark. V A N D E R space capital A R K. What's your Well, that's why I made That's why I asked him to eat last night cuz his face started looking a little thin. I'm like, okay now. And he wouldn't show. I'm like, let me see. Hold your shirt up. And he wouldn't hold his shirt up. He wouldn't do anything. Did he get real skinny last time, too? Yes. The only reason I know is because my my 7-year-old walked in on him accidentally when he was in the shower downstairs. Uh-huh. And then my 7-year-old comes up and he's like, "Mama, Timothy's really skinny." I was like, I Was that this time or last time? last time. That was like first week of February is when I d- discovered that. Mhm. And I told him he was either going to start eating every multiple times a day or I was taking him to the hospital and he didn't want to go to the hospital, so he So he ended up eating on his own? Yes. Timothy did eat food on his own, but he was only given rice and bread. When he attempted to take food, he was punished with Carolina Reaper, the hottest hot sauce in the world, which Paul described as severely painful. Another punishment he endured was ice baths. The day before he died, he spent over 9 hours in an ice bath unable to move. But how was Shanda able to hide all this? And he goes to school and everything he was? homeschool him online. Um because he's high functioning. Um it's he's just done better at it. I can show you his grade report online. I've got all the It's online. Okay. Is he doing okay? Yeah, he was I mean he was failing math, which is not unusual, but he was passing everything else. What's his date of birth? It was 8 6 of 2006. I should have I just I tried to check him in the last few days and he just wouldn't let me anywhere near him. He didn't want a kiss. It's the hug nothing. Oh. How would he want you to give him a hug cuz then you could tell that he have known. And like I told him he was stumbling a little bit last night. But he's not the most coordinated kid in the world. And he said he was okay. And then he ate When was the last time he ate, you think? Last night. Contrary to her own claims, while Timothy was in the ice bath the day prior, she instructed Paul to offer him some pizza. Timothy reacted to the pizza, but Paul wouldn't actually give it to him. This was just a test to prove that the boy was faking it. So she kept him in the cold water to teach him a lesson. It was later noted that hypothermia was a significant factor that contributed to his death. How old is he? 15. 15? He'll be 16 in August. Okay. But his dad texted me last night and said, "I can't handle him anymore. I have to send him to live with you." And I'm like, "Yeah, sure. Absolutely." Why Why was that? Why was What did he What did he do that he was lying to him. He was um destroying things. Um Is he hard Is he hard to deal with? I don't think so, but I'm stricter than his dad. Mhm. So I don't know if that I mean he he he's The lying's been a problem. Um but nothing major. Yeah, nothing crazy. No. Um He's All teenagers lie. He's tripped down the stairs a couple of times like just half the flight. And then later he came back to me and admitted he did it intentionally. But I've asked him I'm like, "You're trying to hurt yourself?" He's like, "No, I just want to see what would happen." It's That's the way he a lot of times he he wants to see what would happen if he does stuff. And Oh my gosh. What you just heard right there was a pathetic attempt to explain why her son had bruises all over his body. It probably wouldn't surprise you to learn that after she divorced Timothy's dad, the court gave the man full custody of all four children and she was allowed only 3 hours of visitation per month. It's obvious she's a monster, but what about Paul? You doing all right? Yeah, it's it's almost like you're in a daze. Like you don't know what's real and what's not. Have you Have you been talking to him at all recently? I talked to him yesterday morning to get him up. Did you Did you know that he was in this hunger strike? I think I I don't know. Did I tell you or not? I don't know if I did or not. Is he Is he skin and bone? I know and I just How did he He's He's really Well, he he he doesn't communicate with him hardly at all. Like they say hi and they don't Yeah, he's Are you guys full brothers or half brothers? They're full. The only half is the one that's in there. Okay. The amount of effort that went into monitoring Timothy was just staggering. Surveillance cameras, door alarms, locks on the fridge, and even vibration sensors were used to keep him under control and punish him for any wrongdoing. Several days after Timothy's death, police arrested Shanda for child abuse and Paul was the one who spilled the beans. So you guys decided to move him in with your father. There's an alarm on the door. Is that So what's that for? When he would try and sneak because if you notice there was also one on the garage door. That was also because Yeah, there's some food in there that he would try and sneak. So how long do you think he was staying in that closet for? Um Um A couple of weeks maybe. I think it's I think we truly had I started activating the alarm on the door every night after he we found that he would sneak out and get back up on. We've tried so many different things. We just were running out of options of trying to find a punishment that would actually work. And even that did nothing. Right. And we still kept trying. I don't know why. So the hot sauce Tell me about the handcuffs. I know that once again she took my word that I wrote and she put it all She put it all on me. She said that that was your idea. The detective here was masterfully playing Paul, who was obviously frightened and confused. The detective suspected that Paul and his mother planned their lies together. So the officer told him that his mom blamed him for using handcuffs and other forms of punishment in an attempt to get Paul to tell the truth or at least his version of the truth. You would have him against the wall at some points and he would try to move it. And at one point we actually put motion sensors on him to stop that. But on him himself. Yeah, like they were vibrators. They would sense any sort of vibrations. But the thing is he learned to trick them by moving so slow or they'd be on his door and he'd be moving so slow that it wouldn't set off. So he'd get away with stuff. Okay. That he was sneaking food. A lot. Yeah, we over and over and over. There would literally be times where I would be sitting on the couch playing. And then I'd look up and he's there grabbing something. Tell me about the hot sauce. I know that was used as both the punishment and it was put on bread. Was it always on the bread? Not always, no. But the thing is it still hardly did anything for him. There would be times where he would do something for me because I'd accidentally rub my eye after I put it on there. It was owl. Timothy's autopsy revealed extreme malnutrition, hypothermia, and multiple bruises and contusions consistent with physical abuse. In the end, surveillance footage, text messages between Shanda and Paul, physical evidence, and witness accounts were more than enough to convict both of them. Shanda received a life sentence with no parole and 150 years on top of that. Paul was sentenced to a minimum 30 years in prison. And now, here's a very sad tale of unrequited love. When a 15-year-old girl realized that her 17-year-old friend, Austin Bailey, was obsessed with her and had even taken pictures of her while she slept, she told the young man to stay away from her and delete her number on his phone. After being rejected, Austin broke into her house and attacked her with a knife. The cops responded swiftly. 318, you want to go ahead and state first responders and trust it. Yep. 1918, when we get stopped, I'm going to grab Leslie for a little bit. Shad 4, do you have a 40 or is it engaged? No, I got an orange one. I got the 40, I'll grab it. 318, myself and 19, I'm seeing. Shout dude. We're dealing with with him I don't know, 5 6 days ago. He even mentioned something like that to a cop and a few calls we're dealing with. So, if there's anybody that's going to be checking the park, be ready for him to pop up behind a car or anything like that. They said he's not in there, so let's make sure he's not around here. I got Leslie though, so I want to make sure I got some medical coverage if he pops up. Come check this way. 318, he also usually wears glasses, sometimes has a baseball cap on. The young man had created a special folder on his computer to store the girl's pictures. He labeled it the love of my life. When she found out, she realized something was very, very wrong, but she probably never expected him to climb through her window or attack her so brutally. When the officer made contact with her, they found her covered in blood. 314, let's get first responders in here. She's getting dizzy. She's got a couple of cuts. We're going to need to protect these guys out here when they get here for her. It's just something we don't have a choice. We need to get her out, but we got to we got to protect these guys when they get in here, too. I don't know what the [ __ ] it is. You guys got to be careful. We don't know where he is. So, we're going to stay here with you guys. She needs help. I couldn't We couldn't wait. Okay. Couldn't get that one. She's in the kitchen on a chair. Okay. You know what window he came in? Yeah, this one right here. We don't know We don't know where he is, but we want to get you guys in here. Okay. You guys got to be careful. We don't know where he is yet. So, we're hanging out. She's got lacerated a real bad one to the pinky. She's got one on the head and she's got one on her neck. She said the one on the neck's not bad. She's got pressure on all the other ones. We got to cover these guys. Yeah, I know. That's what I was just thinking, too. The girl was lucky to escape and she quickly alerted authorities, but the question was, where was the assailant? He was clearly armed and dangerous and possibly mentally ill. While they searched for him, they continued exchanging information over the radio. Let's move up. Have we had any contact with Austin's mom? Have we had any contact yet? We're working our way up to it. I think he cut himself. That's what I was told. Yeah, but why? He put it over her head. Uh 318, just information for the other units that might be checking. He uh possibly might be going to an apartment on the street as well. I think I'm I think I'm okay for photographs. You want to run through the room with the Are you sure that he went out the window? Yeah. I checked the house already. I wonder if she was asleep. I mean I really didn't get to interview her. So, here's going to be the deal with trying to find him, right? Last week when he was doing the running around town stuff, he said he saw me a bunch of times when I was looking for him. He would just run. He just knows to duck and dive and dodge. I don't know where to go now since everybody else has been cruising around. I mean, he's so close. I would imagine he's probably still here. He's around here somewhere. Could have just hopped on the bike trail and gone in either direction. How old is this kid? 17. 318, residence is clear. He's not here. One of the officers had a previous encounter with Austin at a local high school. It was apparent that the young man suffered from mental health issues. This was pretty much confirmed when Officer Gordon had a conversation with Austin's mom. I'm Officer Gordon, this is Deputy Leinfeld. Um we've spoken before. Yeah. Um so, I don't know what's going on with Austin tonight. He uh went over to this house? Yeah, that's the last I know. So, well, he came in through her window tonight Okay. So, we it's imperative that we find him. Yeah, I know. Any idea where he might have gone? I mean, we're checking kind of the usual spots. God, yeah, you you you should find him and put him in jail. I mean, the problem with this park is like there's so many sheds that are unlocked. There's campers parked on the road. Literally be hiding anywhere. Is she going to be okay? Um none of them were Didn't Didn't appear life threatening. I mean, I'll say that much. Um but I didn't get I also didn't get a good look at it. It sounds like there was she was in the hand and possibly the head and the neck. Um so, I don't know if something happened between him and her today. I know he's kind of been spiraling the last the last week or so. Yeah. Um yeah, I know. If he If he comes home, I would advise probably not even letting him in. I don't know what frame of mind he's in right now. I will be keeping him Yep. So, lock the doors, you know, if you As soon as you see him, give the cops a call right away. Yeah, we sure will. Okay. And he's all yours. Believe me, if he was here, you could take him out. Yep. No, absolutely. I support what you guys do. I'm Oh my god, I can't I can't believe this is happening. While it surely wasn't the news she was hoping for, at least she still had support for the officers. A bit later on, the officer who tried to get Austin on the phone earlier received a much welcome call from him. It appeared Austin was on foot, but where could he be? Can I talk to him? Hey Austin, you okay, buddy? No? What's going on, man? Where you at? Why not? Yeah? She's going to be okay. 319 has him on the phone trying to figure out where he's at. Where are you Where are you, buddy? Remember me? You remember Remember Dude, it's me from last week, all right? I know It's It's me from last week, buddy. It's It's It's Officer Kingery. Okay? Cool. Well, let's end this a good way then, huh? Yeah, this ain't the end of the world, man. She's going to be okay. You're You're okay, too, yeah? I couldn't hear you, sorry. She's going to be okay, Austin. Okay, that's the important part right now. She'll be all right. We got her help and she's okay. What don't you get? I know, man. I know what I've been in her life for a long time, but I'm 17. I'm trying as an adult. I know how you feel right now, but What would have But Austin, you and I What we don't want to do is make this any worse than it is, okay? Right now, it's not the end of the world. Okay? I said go nuclear with it. Cuz what Now, what do I got to lose now? My whole life just Where are you at, dude? Where Where can I find you instead of somebody else finding you? I would rather talk to you. else find me, if I'm being honest. The officer here knows very well that when cops confront suspects who've already acted violently, things can quickly get out of hand. During the previous incident with Austin at school, he'd managed to talk some sense into him. The question now is, can he do it again? You can handle this, you and I. No, if the cops show up, man, I'm I'm willing to. Is there a place that you and I can meet where we can like have some distance and we can talk this out? 314, further information. He's making suicide statements. He says if he sees a cop, he's going to die. So, we don't have a confrontation? I can't do anything, but I'm going to hang up this call now. Do I have things I got to I got to take care of for I Austin, please please don't do this, buddy, okay? You got to meet You got to work with me here, man. You got to work with me here. Why? We're So, that nothing bad happens, okay? Dude, so nothing bad happens even though I just She's going to be okay, though. That's what I'm telling you, man. She's going to be all right. I don't want this to go, you know, this is as bad as it's got to get right now. 314, just listening to him on the phone. It sounds like he's probably walking. No. Please let me help you. It was clear that Austin did not want any help. He was bright enough to know that he was heading to prison for a very long time. And while he did do a horrible thing, the cops were determined to arrest the man in the safest way possible. Normally in a situation we could just let him cool off. Yeah, not like that. You can't even let him go home. Not with this. Only what she had had last sleep for a while. Probably. I wonder if you tried calling him back. It'll just piss him off even more. I don't know. It's a nightmare with the location. Absolute nightmare. Should I call him again? I'll try. 319, can you note that I tried to call, no answer. He won't tell me where he is. He's Remember what he was like last week? He's Way elevated. He's way above it. Hey man, it's me again. You all right? Uh he's asking if I'm safe, yeah. Okay. What can we do, man? How can we do How can we handle this? 314, we have him back on the phone. What did he say? Said he's safe right now. What does that mean? All of a sudden, Austin told the officers that he wanted to meet at the high school, so a unit was sent there. However, they also managed to ping his phone to the area they were already searching. The high school meet up was just a ploy to get the cops out of the neighborhood. As soon as the officer got there, they received an anonymous tip about Austin's whereabouts. The caller now says he says the Quincy Street apartments. We're trying to get exact apartment and building. I'm not sure who it is, but we're getting a call about it, but they just come up on it. I could see him calling and saying he's up there. He said outside the Quincy Street apartments now running and the caller hung up. I'm going to stay. I'll see you there. It was your truck? What do I If I'm outside those apartments, he's running in self ground. I'll go to Bluebird. Might go with you. I'm going to get him. He's in self ground. [Music] Hey. Hey, look, we need to keep talking, okay? No, I'm good. Drop the knife. Austin, drop the knife, man. Just drop the knife, man. Drop the knife. No. Austin, drop the knife. Yeah, I'll kill myself. He's in self ground. The standoff there was intense. Austin was backed up to a wall surrounded by cops. He still had a knife in his hand but nowhere to run. The officers had to act fast and prevent the man from harming himself. But if they rush him, somebody here could get hurt. Austin, man, let's talk about it. Austin, drop the knife. Quite a lot. No, I'm good. Go back up. Just sit down for a second. Take a breath, okay? Richard, you ready for me to move up? It's not over. You're 17, let's talk about it. Can you just drop the knife so we can talk, man? Can you cover me, Richard, so I can talk to him? Hey, bud. Hey, buddy, it's me. Okay? You okay? What do you think? I know I know things aren't good right now, but like we talked on the phone, dude, okay? We can't We got We got to We got to stop it now. Like we said, it's not the end of the world right now. She's going to be okay. She's fine. This has got to be it though, Austin, okay? 315, stage medical at the middle school. Just put that thing down, okay? Please. Realizing talking was getting them nowhere, the cops quietly agree to try and fire at the suspect with a less lethal weapon. Usually these weapons have a round that's rubber, wooden, or plastic and they have much less impact than a standard bullet. While they can sometimes be lethal, it usually just causes pain that disables the suspect. IMPACT! DROP THE KNIFE! DROP IT! DROP THE KNIFE! HE JUST DROPPED IT. 319, less lethal deployed shot. First responders, please, to I think we're at what? 510? We're 95. You got anything else on you? I got my keys and my wallet. You got any other knives, any needles, anything that's going to poke, stick, or stab me? No, just the one. It worked. Thank you, sir. You bet. Thank you. It's my phone. Jeez. The thing I got shot with. Thanks, guys. Appreciate you guys' help. We were a little short tonight. Time to talk. Stand up. Do I pull my pants up or what? We'll grab them in a minute. Where's he got it? It's in his leg. In the thigh? Yeah, I got it. Actually, Austin's phone took the brunt of the hit. Austin was charged with armed burglary and attempted intentional homicide in the first degree. After pleading guilty to the homicide, the second charge was dismissed and he was later sentenced to 16 years in prison. Some crimes are done out of love, others out of sheer stupidity and a short temper. On the 9th of July, 2022, New Mexico police were called for an alleged shooting. Once they got there, the suspect was sitting at the front door waiting. Police department, come over here. Show me your hands. Put your hands up. Walk towards me. Walk towards me. Walk and keep your hands up. Get down on your knees. Get down on your knees. Down on your knees. Put your hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. Sorry, I had to do this. As the suspect, James Throw, was apologizing for what he'd done, his next door neighbor, Carlos Pichardo, lay there lifeless next to the entrance of his house. Carlos's girlfriend, Fatima Ortiz, managed to get into the house and call police despite being shot several times herself. Once the officers secured the suspect, they went to check on her. Police department. Can you step out, please? We've been shot. Okay. They shot at us from the back. Look at this. He shot her in the back and in Two GG victims, one shot in the back, [Applause] I need another glove. He's shot in the chest and in the in the stomach. [Music] Hey, stop. I need somebody to clear the apartment. I need somebody to take care of her. [Music] You shot? You shot? Yeah, I shot. No, are you shot? Are you hurt, sir? Oh, no, no. According to Fatima's statement, Throw shot her first twice. When her boyfriend tried to protect her, Throw shot him in the chest and then followed Fatima inside the house firing six more shots at her. Amazingly, she managed to survive and was still conscious and alive when the officers arrived. Hold on. Hold on. Hang on, brother. Hang on, brother. Hold on. Put Put that one in the back. Put the one in the back and then there's that. [Music] Who's the guy? Who's the bad guy? You the bad guy? Yes, he was definitely the bad guy. But what possessed this man to shoot his neighbors? Apparently, there was already bad blood between them for a long time. They'd argued earlier that day and Throw later claimed Pichardo came at him so he fired in self-defense. However, worried that her neighbor might do something, Fatima started recording the man as they were passing by. Here's what really happened. Hey. I take a picture of me, baby? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I know. Just lay your ass down. Okay, we'll just shoot the [ __ ] whether or not. I will not shoot you till I tell you, okay? What I did, I already did. I can't do no more. Can you just go ahead and put your back in there and just we'll sign you? Huh? 31100. Let me put my leg All right. I didn't mean to do that, man, but you pissed me off, man. The officers also questioned the neighbors. They didn't witness the actual shooting, but they were at least able to confirm there'd been a long-standing feud between the shooter and the couple next door. Do you know his actual name? Um what's his name, baby? Frog. He goes by Frog. Frog? And you You don't know his um his actual name? No. Is he dead? He told her because they were arguing over the grass. Who? The Frog and Yeah. And they were arguing over the grass. Yes. This morning or No, sometime this They hate each other. They hate each other? Yeah. Okay. And I thought it was over drugs, but frogs don't do the grass. All he does is drink beer. He's 81. It's shocking a person would resort to shooting someone over an argument about grass. Cops had responded to this feud in the past but not much was done. On that fateful day, the old man just snapped and decided he'd had enough. As the man was being arrested, they were transporting Fatima to the hospital and she was visibly agitated. Okay, I said I want my purse. I'm not leaving the house. We can't get the purse right now. What color is it? It's black and it's It's on the bed. I told you guys it's on THE BED. THEY HURT ME. GET ME MY PURSE. WE'RE GOING TO GET IT. I need to let my daughter know so my daughter can inform my son. I can't leave my No, I need my purse. I WILL NOT GET MEDICAL transportation until I get my purse. I need that purse. We're not going Okay then, you're not going to help me. I'm going TO I NEED MY PURSE! YOU GUYS ARE NOT understanding how severe I need my purse. I'm not going to You need medical attention right now? Medical attention? MY SON IS IN DANGER. DO YOU NOT understand that? I understand that. Do you know your son's number? You guys threw talked to Did I as a joke? MAN, LOOK AT ME. BECAUSE YOU GUYS DECIDED to take this as a joke, right? WHEN I CALLED MOUNTAIN VIEW SQUARE EARLIER, RIGHT? I want my purse because I'm entitled to have it. Frog, the man next door. I had issues with his son, Cody Throw. Cody Throw too was even pushing him to come and shoot at us. It was later revealed that Cody, the shooter's son, helped his father by taking the firearm used in the crime and concealing it. While his father was being arrested, Cody was deemed a person of interest so the officers detained him on site along with his girlfriend. You still staying here? Where are you staying? On this one or what? Which one are you staying at? At which one? You just came back from here or what? Where were you coming from? We've been cruising around all day. You've been cruising You didn't just come from here? No. So, you're you're being detained for the time being, all right? We're conducting an investigation here. You're being detained for the time being. I can't say that right now, all right? We're just conducting We're just conducting an investigation. You're being detained, all right? Somebody got hurt and that's what we're trying to figure out. Who got hurt? Hey, who got hurt? Uh She's here, too. Yeah, come here. Come over here. You You stay here, right at this house? Yeah. I'm just going to get to you. Don't Don't Don't try to run. Yeah. I'll let you guys Do you have anything on you that you can cut me a pocket knife with? Huh? All three suspects were taken to the precinct and later gave their statements. As shocking as it is, Thero seemed to be calm and collected, even though he just shot two people in broad daylight just hours ago. Do you mind if I call you James? Call me anything you want. They call me Frog. I'll call you Frog? Okay. That's been my name since when I was in the army. And why do they call you Frog? I was the only freshman there and they called freshman people frogs. Oh, really? I didn't know that, but I liked it. I didn't know that either. Better than being called a son of a [ __ ] That's what I was going to say. I can understand that. All right, James, the reason we want to talk to you is about the stuff that happened out there, okay? It's terrible. I've been living there 4 years. Okay. And I love it there, you know, it's nice and quiet and everything. Then these people moved next door to me and about a year and a half ago. And I'm sorry, but what are these people, you know? They just and they called the cops on me like four or five times for no reason. So, I was just sitting there drinking a beer when they walked by, she started yelling again and I said, "Shut Shut up." And then he started coming towards me. I had a piece of wood there and I grabbed it. And I just happened so fast I don't remember what happened. I know what I I shot him. I I hope I didn't but I I I shot him. Thero's story didn't really match the footage on Fatima's phone. He was eventually charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and conspiracy to tamper with evidence. His son, Cody, was also charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence and possession of a firearm by a felon. Frog got sentenced to 15 years in prison with 5 years suspended. And that wraps up today's episode. Which case was most shocking to you? And also, do you think these criminals got appropriate sentences? Thanks for sticking around to the end and be sure to subscribe so you don't miss uncovering the next untold file. [Music]
