What did I do? What did I do? [Music] Go. [Music] When police officers get called out to emergency situations, there's no predicting what they will encounter. But nothing shows what our city's finest are capable of than scenarios where good cops arrive at tragic scenes and must face the unimaginable. On August 20th, 2024 in Akran, Ohio, an undercover officer spotted a vehicle involved in suspicious activity. The officer conducted a traffic stop, but the car fled the scene. [Music] Is it this? The vehicle ran a stop sign, hit another car, and then spun out and hit two additional vehicles before crashing into a tree. The driver was 26-year-old Logan Allen Johnson and he had a 30-year-old male passenger. Both were still trapped inside the car after the crash. This one. Okay. Try not to move. Okay. Okay. Yes, sir. 1930 unit here. Come, come over here. Come over there. Logan was unresponsive, but the passenger was conscious and communicating to officers. While they tried to rescue the two men, other officers spoke with witnesses to get a better understanding of how this all happened. I pulled up on it. And where was that at? The across the street, them apartments that sit right across the street. Um, right over AMHA apartments. Yeah, them AMHA apartments. 600 block around. Yeah. So the black officer had him pulled over. Yep. And as who was driving the other car? It was a black guy with like some orange colored grids or something. He was driving. Was he light-skinned, dark skinned? He was brown skinned. He wasn't light or dark. But the dude, he looked at kind of heavy set. So it wasn't the one that they took out. That's not the driver. That was not the driver. Did he have a green shirt on by chance? He had a green shirt on. All right, that helps. That was the driver. Um, so as the cop, you know, was the cop was at the door. Yep. And then next thing as I'm pulling past the car, the cop went like this and then the car took off and then like five police cars and two undercover cars went following them. So they went all the way down coughly. I'm sitting there watching them. Who were you watching? I was driving down the street cuz I saw all the cars and I, you know, black people, we want to be nosy. So, I was got to be nosy. Although officers and first responders tried to save the driver's life, his injuries were so severe that he didn't survive. The passenger was taken to the emergency room where officers and medical staff were able to talk to him. Really? Well, listen, you told me you were the passenger, right? Yeah. Just Why did your homie run out the white dude? Yeah, there going to be a table. I would be lying. I'll be lying. What? I'd be lying if I said he said he knew. Do you know uh you know if there was anything in the car? He was scared of fine. Uh I think he just saw him earlier but uh he was about to hit his head. He just dude was picking off. Did you have a gun? After officers conducted a search of the vehicle, they found a loaded handgun inside that may have prompted the driver to flee and could be related to the suspicious activity the undercover officer was pulling them over for to begin with. What was it? Yeah. [Music] What? dude. Yeah. White white guy with red hair. Red facial hair. Yeah. Red beard. Why are we in the car with him? It's a little hard to understand. It was unclear if the passenger was injured or under the influence, but it's suspicious that he didn't know the number of people in the car with him or the name of the driver. Unfortunately, it's the police's job to notify the next of kin of the deceased driver. Not a job any cop wants to do. Yeah. Do you do you know a Logan Johnson? Yeah, that's my son. All right. Do you want to just come talk to this real quick? Uh we're in band. We we need Hi there. Um, your son was involved in an accident tonight. A car accident? Yes. With my car, I believe. So, is he okay? Uh, that that's why we're here. Unfortunately, he I I wish I had better news for you, but he tonight in that car accident. No. Logan Johnson. Yes. Logan Allen Johnson, sir. Oh my god. No. Are youing kidding me? I I wish this was a sick joke, but sadly it's not. Where off of Roslin. Where? Come on. Oh my god. I have a report number for you as well with the medical examiner. It's heartbreaking for any parent to outlive their children, especially in such a sudden and tragic incident as this one. On April 21st, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, police were called to a home where a 4-month-old baby was reported to be unresponsive. But upon arriving, the mother was hysterical, but not for the right reasons. You got it. [Music] Let go of the baby. We got to do your baby. It's okay. The mother is 31-year-old Christina Bennett. And in a shocking turn of events, she refused to hand over her unconscious baby, kicked officers, and told first responders she did not want them to administer lifesaving care to her child. Okay. How long has she been down? They brought her feet all the camp around here. My truck, you know. How long is that? When did those happen? No. Hold on. Hold on. They're doing life. Okay. They're going to do everything they can. You understand? Every healthare, but we want to make sure your baby's okay and live, right? That's what they're trying to do right now. I know. I know. It's Yeah. [Music] Christina's parents told police that Christina knocked on their door asking for a lighter and then mentioned that her baby was dead. They also said that Christina had allegedly done drugs and was also the mother of two other children. What did I do? What did I do? Stop. Come on, ma'am. I know. Let me check on my baby. Is against you. Let me check on my baby. Right now, you're just being detained. Okay. You resist. Okay. Don't resist. Hey, you quit doing It's ironic that Christina is calling out to her own mother for help but doesn't want to save her own child. Police discovered that Christina had an active felony warrant for child abuse. Days earlier, Christina was involved in a shoplifting incident and she sped away from the scene of the crime with her baby on her lap. Leave me away. I have every right. I know my rights. You guys have no right to entertain me. I'm going to sit right here and wait for my baby. You're welcome to sit down. I don't have nothing. I don't have nothing. Stand up. I have nothing. Let me see my baby. Have you seen my baby? My baby's in there. I'm not leaving my children like that. I'm not leaving my children right now. I need to turn her leg off. You need to turn my daughter. I have right to refuse medical health care. I have every right to refuse medical health care. The kid is not breathing. Don't you want to help her? Yes, I do want to help her. While they administered medical attention to the baby, police continued to investigate the incident. One of the witnesses was Christina's father, who is currently sick with CO. So, here's the deal, sir. Um, at this point, I can't have you go back in the house. What? Sir, here's the deal. So, right now we're working on your on your grandchild. Um, we're trying to figure out what's going on. So, we need to talk to everybody. So, right now I don't know what's going on. So, I've got to figure out what's going on. Who's here? And so, I can't have you go back in the house right now. Okay. So, I'm going to go talk to your I'm going to get your grandchild. Okay. We'll get her out here. Is there anybody else inside? Okay, brother. Okay. What's your name, sir? I called it in. Okay. Thank you for calling her in, sir. I'm not saying you're in trouble or anything. We just have procedures we have to follow, especially because it's a child. Okay. All right. I have CO. So the grandfather seemed relatively calm for someone that had to report an unconscious grandchild. The officers then went inside the family home to speak to the grandmother and Christina's 12-year-old child. Both were extremely distraught. She just come knocking on the door. I need a lighter. Okay. And then she said that he wanted to and then she dropped her phone and then she said the baby's dead. And so when you guys went out there, baby was already like that. Yeah. I trying to make sure we already know. She dropped her phone. I don't know. The baby in the car when she in the frenzy. She drives with the baby in the frenzy. Like when was the last time you guys saw the baby? Yesterday. But she But Christina kept on holding her in the front seat without the car seat. So I'm afraid of her. Christina is my mother. That woman is my mother. I don't want to be her with her. She thinks that I want to be her. And what time did you call your grandparents on the video chat where your um your grandma told me? 7:00. 7 or 8:00 at night. Like that. Yeah. The grandmother and daughter then confessed something horrifying to the officers that Christina would blow each smoke into her baby's face. Though everyone was in shock, it's interesting to note that neither one of the grandparents were comforting the crying 12-year-old child, which hints at what kind of home these children live in. She runs away from the cops downtown. She doesn't really care about me. She only cares about like the male child because she's the favorite child of her. So, cuz she has favorites. So, she sat out here for a little while after you do you know what her uh what she uses? No, she's she says she does dope and stuff like that and and she usually like sucks all her blood then puts it back in and then she uses water from her sink and then put it back in her bloodstream. I keep on telling her that's wrong. The grandmother confessed that the previous night she video chatted with Christina and saw the baby on her lap and a syringe in her other hand. While talking with the family, they received an update on the baby from the police radio. for the next one. Charles 531 49 rescue 9 discontinued resuscitation efforts on the infant at 0921. The paramedics tried their best to resuscitate the little girl but were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead. The officers now had to make an official death report and that required child protective services to come out to the scene. 2020 or March of this year. Okay. Um she's got drug abuse charges and lack of supervision um and inadequate clothing on. Okay. That one was substantiated in 2017. Also in 2017, um, emotional abuse was substantiated on the two older girls. The one in what was January, um, educational neglect on the girls on Okay, that one was unsaid. And then um lack of supervision on Amelia that was upset as well. The list of abuses Christina inflicted on her children is deplorable. Christina then complained to officers that she was not comfortable in her handcuffs but did not ask about how her baby was doing. Detectives then arrived on the scene and I think I I talked to you about it, but the kid has bruising on eyelids, shoulder, and ribs. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and then her her thing was she shows up here at about 9:19 and says, "You guys have a lighter." And then they're like, "Where's the baby?" And she the fire guys told me what they just when they grabbed the baby. Yeah. The guy that was working on it told me I think she was dead at least 30 minutes before we touched her. Yes. So she was probably driving around. Yeah. And that's why I think she told them no baby's dead. But then all of a sudden when everybody wants to go check on the baby all of a sudden she was holding it I guess. I don't know. There's some sort of talk of her blowing smoke in the baby's face. Lots of use around baby. She has a felony warrant for child abuse. Um and CFD can't confirm she has a long history going back to like 2017 of a bunch of stuff with kids. Gotcha. It paints a heartbreaking scene of a baby needing medical attention and her mother driving around and never helping her or caring that she was unwell. The suffering of this child was unimaginable. The detectives know that the burden of notifying the family about the baby's tragic death was on their shoulders. Christina was begging, pleading with her daughter to be reasonable with as usual cuz she's abusive. And Lily got the camera on her and showed her that she had a hypo in her hand. At that point, finally believed what I've been telling her. Yeah. For a week or two. She's on drugs. She's giving her daughter mother's milk. The baby's going to be getting drugs. She finally believed it. She called you guys immediately. Later that night, Christina shows up, I guess, down right in front of our house and jumps out and gets in the house and and then Christina's out here for another two hours, probably shooting up in front of our neighbor's house. It's a little late. Somebody should have done their diligence yesterday and the baby would still be alive. Had that been done, boy. Kind of late now for that poor four-month old baby. My mother's milk. Yes, I think you told her. Gosh. I mean, she called and told you guys. Well, not you guys, but somebody in the police department. She told us. So, how come the baby's now? Unfortunately, sir, I don't have an answer. I know you don't know. It's a rhetorical question. The grandfather seemed to be suggesting that the baby's death was law enforcement's fault. Could it be that he was trying to deflect blame from him and his wife? Why didn't the grandfather drive to find his infant granddaughter to make sure she was okay if he was that concerned? An autopsy of the baby revealed that meth was found in the baby's system. I understand that you're upset and I I can never understand exactly what you guys are going through right now. So, I don't want to even push that I do and I'm so sorry that you guys are going through this. I I completely understand that you guys are angry. Why didn't somebody go check on her last night and rest her? Shake her down, man. She told you guys, not you, but she told the police. And I don't have an answer for you. I'm sorry. She's a wretched soul. There's something wrong with her. Serious. Yes, sir. I hear you. She wants to shoot up. I'd like to shoot her up. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. And then the last in the head. You guys, I can't believe she called last night. Nobody went took care of that situation in front of that house sitting there shooting up with a baby. That wasn't a serious one. I guess that wasn't priority. I guess not. Again, sir, I don't have an answer. I know you don't. And again, I'm just ranting and raving. I that that part I do get. I I don't blame you for that. Christina was charged with abandonment of a child, resulting in death and abuse of a child. and she was also charged with fleeing and eluding from her previous shoplifting warrant. She pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Who's not responsive? Not responsive. Little girl in the mail. She's responsive. Let me see. On March 10th, 2024 in Grand County, Colorado, police received a frantic call from a man who claimed he was staying with a couple who had passed out and their children were unresponsive. We have one a little girl who's not responsive at all. Then they have a 7-year-old boy who is mostly responsive. I was able to get him on a chair, but I don't know what's going on. I really don't. I woke up and I heard uh someone yelling, "Ow, help." And so I went in and I was trying to help them. Okay, give me a second while I get them started on their way. Okay. Dispatch immediately notified police officers who raced to the address. The location was a trailer surrounded by junk piles of trash. When the police opened the front door, he found a den of horrors. Who's here? Sheriff's office. Yeah. What's going on? Not much. Sorry, I'm really really stiff this morning. I can't sit up right. Are you guys on anything? No. No. What? No, I'm just really stiff from What's wrong with him? He's tired. Is he awake? He is awake. He moved from here over to there. He is awake. Okay. Who's not responsive? Not responsive. Little girl in the middle. She's responsive. The officer struggled to understand which child was unresponsive. But then he quickly realized that the parents were laying on top of another small child, a little girl who was eerily still and not breathing. Move. Oh. You guys need to get up now. Yeah. Yeah. Get up. We're getting up. We're getting up. Get up. We're getting up. I'm getting up. Let's go. Get up. Yes. Yes. I'm getting up. Let's go. Hurry up. Get up. You guys need to get out. Let's go. Hurry up. I'm going. I'm going. I'm going. Get up. Stand up. Stand up. I can't. Yes, you can. Stand up. Get up. Hurry up. You need to get up. Got it. Let's go. Get up. I'm getting up. Leave her alone. Do not touch her. Get up. Go get the other deputies now. They should be out here. Go get him. Let's go. Get up. What is it? We got a 107. Where? Right here. Get move. Get up. Yes. Get up now. Get up. While one officer continued to try and remove the parents from the trailer, the other officer attended to the little boy. The boy was confused and scared. And the officer did his best to keep the child calm while the situation dramatically unfolded. Where's your shoes at? How long? Check his vitals. My leg hurts. Huh? No. I can't bend it down. Your leg hurts? I got Hey, send a 55 for him. Check his Check his vitals. Did you smoke? Huh? No. What is it? No, it's not. We just fell asleep really hard. 32 Central. Start at 55. Let's go. Want me to carry you? Come here. Come here. I'll carry you. My leg. Your leg? Mhm. Are you okay? Mhm. I'm just older. How old is your sister? Just turned five yesterday. She just turned five? Mhm. The parents kept denying that they had taken anything even though their belligerent behavior showed otherwise. Looking over the tragic scene and the filth and dirtcovered floors, the officers were losing patience and time was running out to revive the unresponsive little girl. Give me your hands. Give me your hands. Where is this going? Stand up now. I'm not going to tell you again. Stand up. I'm standing up. I'm trying to Give me Yeah. Stand up. I'm not going to tell you again. I'm really trying to stand up. Okay. God damn it, dude. Stand up. I'm trying to stand up. I'm trying to stand up. I'm trying to stand up. It's unclear whether the mother was lying or whether she was so drugged out she couldn't figure out how to move her own body. The officer, not wanting to waste time with the mother, went back to grab the little girl. I'm trying to stand up. Dang it. God damn it. I got you. I got you, baby. Come on. I got you. I got you, baby. I know. Hey, she's still alive. Hey, start with her. She's still alive. She's still alive. The officer frantically performed CPR on the little girl, but because the parents would not admit to what substance they may have taken with the kids, the officers didn't know what method they should use to save her. It's in the passenger seat in the Ziploc bag. Knocking. Come on, baby. Come on, baby. Hit him with it. Come on, baby. Come on, baby. Where's the adult? Suspecting the parents may have been on, the officer opened a Narcan spray bottle, which is a medicine that reverses opioid overdoses by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain. It can restore breathing in minutes. Come on. Is anybody behind me? What is going on? Yeah. Why am I being arrested? You're not being arrested. You're being detained. Turn around. Why? Because you're up here and as a kid, that's why. Kid. Yeah. I wasn't even in the house. I don't care. Called. I don't care. You're just in investigative detention. Put your hands together like you're praying. Huh? Here's investigative detention. Under arrest. Okay. Put your hands together like you're praying. Wait, what did you see? What did you say? Under arrest. You're in investigative detention. You're not under arrest. How long will this take? As long as I decide. What about the dogs? What about my dogs? There was a 5-year-old little girl on the dirt ground that was not breathing. Yet, this man was worried about his dogs. The officers saw the ambulance approaching and picked up the little girl and ran toward it to try and save time. Come on, baby. Come on, baby. We just hit her with I don't know. It sounded like she was trying to go. I don't know. The rest of the officers worked to clear the scene as the ambulance looked after the child. But upon inspecting the little girl, they had heartbreaking information to deliver to the responding officers. They take the two kids or I have both in my Are they gone? One is gone. That one's gone. I thought so. I picked her up. I heard something. cuz I was like possibly. Yeah, but she felt too she she felt too stuff stiff. That's what I was going to say. And the other kid, he's doing good. Um, he's got a couple of marks. I don't I wouldn't quite say it was like abuse. Mhm. He's got a mark here and then a scratch on his back. Um, he said he hasn't eaten since Friday. And I asked him what was going on. He said we were all just cold. Sadly, the little girl had tragically passed long before the officers arrived. It took two months for authorities to gather enough evidence to arrest the parents. The father was charged with child abandonment and intentional child abuse resulting in death and the mother was also charged with intentional child abuse resulting in death. The court case is still ongoing. On June 3rd, 2024 in Ohio, a mother and her three-year-old son were leaving a Giant Eagle grocery store after shopping. The mother was unaware that she was being followed by a woman who had malicious intentions. [Music] The woman in the surveillance video is 33-year-old Bianca Ellis. Ellis spotted the mother and little boy and followed them outside where she suddenly took out a knife and stabbed them both before fleeing. The little boy had become unresponsive and officers rushed to the scene to try and save his life. Let's go. Yes, guys. Police would later find out that Ellis had allegedly stolen two knives from a store right before walking into the grocery store. She then used one of those knives to inflict life-threatening harm to the innocent mother and child. Ready? Let me know when you're ready. Here we go. All right. You ready? How many feet? Go go go. Medic, come in here and relieve him. Medic, come in and relieve him of his chest compression. [Music] Get mom out. Go take her to a car right now. Hey, somebody go get mom. He doesn't. You can hear the out of breath mother who had her own stab wound in her shoulder telling the officers not to worry about her but help her little boy instead. Her son was losing a lot of blood from the stab wounds he sustained to his face and his back. Hey, that saw it. If you saw this, come to me. If not, you guys will clear the area. If you saw this, come to me. If you guys have nothing to do with this, go ahead and go home. Thank you very much. You saw this? We were sitting right over there. We heard her screaming instantly right now. So, you didn't see the actual see the actual crime? Thank you very much. Have a great deal. It's important that police only speak to individuals that actually saw the crime. Otherwise, it would be considered conjecture and it's not admissible in court. The officers gathered distraught witnesses who are in shock because of what they had just seen. Does this take place out here? Right there. Literally right here. Right here. Did you see this? Did she say anything? I I didn't hear anything. I had my windows. I didn't hear anything. All I heard was just screaming and the lady grabbed her child up out the cart and that's when it fell over and they collapsed over here and the lady just continued to walk off and that's when everybody just kind of came out of nowhere. Yeah. The man told officers that he witnessed Ellis run away from the scene and he jumped back into his car and raced after her. He chased her down across the street to the parking lot and that's when he called 911. The police eventually found Ellis. 211. I need a car to go help the kid. These are the first couple. Where's your cuff? Custom down. Slow down. We're good. All right. You want me to go to the female or giant eagle? She's in the first three rows farther north. Copy. I will be off. Next to Ellis was a bloody knife. Ellis did not mention knowing the mother and child, which left officers in the dark as to her motivations. Although Ellis did not have a record of violent behavior, police did discover that she had an arrest record in Florida and had the body camera footage from that incident. What's your name? Bianca. What's going on tonight? I was wanting to be a vote for trans. Why? Because I am. You have no reason. You just want to. I have no words to go. Okay. So, I'm just going to go through the formality, right? So, they want you to leave the property. They want you to, you know, leave, not come back. I'm trespassing you. You're being formally trespassed by the Ocula County Sheriff's Office. Okay. You need to leave the property now. But what about getting arrested? Are you refusing to leave the property? Yeah. Why? Because it's cold outside. I don't want to arrest. So, you're just refusing to leave the property? Because Yeah. You have no family? No, nothing. No, I'm not from here. hours vacation. Patrol 896 up. You guys want to take my stuff, too? Turn around. Hands behind your back. The tragic outcome of this case was that Ellis's attack on the three-year-old child was fatal. The mother survived, but the little boy succumbed to his wounds. And when Ellis showed up to court, she didn't seem to care about what she had done and shocked the court by smiling. Ellis faces charges of aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and theft. A judge ruled Ellis was incompetent to stand trial, and would be transferred to an inpatient facility, further delaying closure for the family. These tragic cases were ones these good cops will most likely never forget. Police officers have to be tough to get through situations like this without breaking.
