Story with these two I get like I said I'm not I'm not trying to bother you anything but we get a call no matter how crazy it sounds we still got to come up and see if there's any truth and this is it sounded crazy to me too because the mother refused the officer's suggestion to quickly check the basement they returned the next day with a warrant to search the entire house in the middle of the basement they found a metal Barrel containing the body of the unfortunate boy who had accidentally killed himself then they needed to uncover all the details of the case but the mother made their job difficult to start with she claimed that she never even had a son can I see the warrant please and I can call my lawyer can I see the warrant before we walk any further I'm scared to death cuz I don't know what's going on and so the reason we're here okay is cuz we're investigating a call that we we had okay the officers came out and talked you last night correct yes okay um we have to handle that real seriously okay cuz the allegations are that you have a son and that he's deceased and he's here in this house okay so that's that's where we're at right now do you have a son named Zion no I County New Mexico the police had a serious intervention where they needed to arrest a violent man who had armed himself and barricaded inside his home during the intervention the local sheriff named James Luhan suddenly appeared demanding that the intervention be halted because he would personally arrest the suspect as it turns out James and the suspect know each other and that's where the problems for the sheriff begin oh yeah and just like the other so far James was visibly intoxicated yeah yes bring in Phil Chon that's who you have a warrant for right pull everybody out I'll bring them in I don't want to pull them out huh I'm telling you I will bring him in okay we don't need to make this bigger than put it in hey uh the sheriff just pulled in and he's he's asking us to pull back and he'll pull pull him in but he's been drinking I can smell it on him we're going to need somebody huh yeah we need to pull somebody over here somebody above me because he's he's already pushing his weight around with me so he's trying to make us pull back and he said he'll call him out but we're not pulling back he knows him he does know him but he's not coming we're not going to we're not going to pull back because he says so no it's not going to happen just let you guys know okay yeah the sheriff tried to enforce his own law but it didn't work out for him in the end the suspect surrendered to the police but before that the sheriff appeared on the scene again and was seen talking to someone that someone turned out to be none other than the suspect shakon which means the sheriff did indeed get involved in the police action and that's where his problems begin the district attorney then issued a warrant to the city police to seize both the sheriff's personal and official phones to conduct an investigation related to that fateful night when the standoff was ongoing but when the police came for the phone a real circus ensued hell sir you want to do it have a couple so one on your personal cell phone then one on your uh your cop do you want hold on to that well he has my personal phone and my work phone okay okay so it's going to stay there until I get it cleared to my attorney first fair enough busy right now it doesn't have the case number on here for the original right there so he has the warrants they're signed they're legal court order I know I know you guys are just doing your job but I don't want you guys in the middle of this all we needed the phones that's it well once he gets his advice from his ATT journey we'll do that I got him I immediately took out the phone but handed it to his colleague that's when he started playing games he looked for Flaws in the warrant and eventually went to another room to speak with his lawyer to speed up the process the district attorney personally called the sheriff's lawyer to explain that the phones must be handed over but even though there seemed to be no way out the sheriff just wouldn't bu are you going to comply yes or no that's all I want I want the phones that's it I told you you have your search War has to search me for personal phones he has the phones he already told me he has the phones okay that's not start Warr says that's it while the police officers were at the main entrance the sheriff slipped out the back exit to head to his vehicle however he returned to the station once he was spotted by the others you're not going to stop me from leaving if I want to leave am I under arrest if we have to am I under arrest not not not now not now go back and we're going to lock down the office please go back in the office seriously don't touch back up you can go in the office but back up don't reach back go inside cuz you're not certified so back up this is all harassment not to be gone through until you have a warrant for the content you only have a warrant for the phones cont you're absolutely right although he eventually handed over the phone sheriff luhan's defiant Behavior landed him in real trouble just a day later the police chief who led the conversation with Sheriff Luhan returned to search the entire station for potential evidence as the sheriff had structed a police investigation the day before this time the station was surrounded by SWAT team members intentions between the city police and the Sheriff's Office were extremely high are you threatening we're trying to do everything peaceful we tried to okay that's all we're doing we're we're done here we're leaving okay well get out of here then you're done get out we'll leave when we're 3-day trial the jury found Luhan guilty for helping conceal Espanola City councelor Philip chakon as police were searching for him he was also found guilty of bribery of a witness for threatening one of his deputies to prevent him from revealing shon's whereabouts to other officers finally the sheriff was sentenced to 3 years in prison
