Are you the mother, >> ma'am? Look at me. Are you the mother of the baby? >> Yeah. And he's the father. >> Where is the baby? >> He left it at the hospital. I gave him the baby. >> No. >> What is going on? >> Okay. You left your daughter in the beach with a sibling that's 5 years old. >> Not a bad mom. I don't know what to tell you. >> I don't even know what happened. You left your sevenyear-old and your 16. For the children inside, fear was a daily reality. Not something that came and went, but something they lived with every single day. What should have been a place of safety had instead become a source of constant harm, neglect, and trauma. >> Who was killed? >> 603. >> When police finally intervened, they quickly realized the situation was far worse than anyone imagined. This is when police rescue kids from a house of absolute horrors. We will come to the first incident when teen mom leaves her sick two-week old baby alone in a parking lot. >> I didn't get what I want. >> Yes, you did. >> Why'd you do this? This is crazy what you did. >> Are you singing? >> On March 24th, 2025, police responded after a report of a newborn baby found alone in a stroller in a parking lot with no adults present. >> Who whose kid? A bystander explains seeing two adults arrive with the baby, then later noticing the stroller unattended and hearing the baby cry. >> Okay. So, what happened exactly? >> So, I was I was parked over there and I saw the color. >> The couple pulled in and it was a young man, African-American with a with a girl, very tall, skinny. I thought they were going in. I was driving by. The next thing is I drove by again cuz I was going to leave and I saw the the carriage sitting. I was like, >> "Did they pull up in this car?" I I'm not sure if it's this car or not, but it was right here. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> This isn't her baby. >> No, no, no. I I was the one who called. >> Did you just drive by and saw this? >> Yeah, I saw I was driving. I was parked and I was driving by and I saw it was sitting here. >> Did you see the parents? >> Baby? Yes. It was African-Amean >> and they both walked away. >> They had a car. So, I'm assuming they drove away. Just left the baby. >> Is the baby okay? Is he >> Yeah, she's okay. She was crying and then picked her up with lolly by her. approximately maybe 2 to 3 week old baby was left unattended in a >> officers confirm the baby appears to be approximately 2 to 3 weeks old and begin coordinating medical and child welfare response >> roller in the parking lot probably going to have to get C involved >> so I I'm just trying to be clear you're you were parked >> did you see someone with the baby >> yeah I saw yeah two of >> a mom and a dad >> were they arguing >> no they would just bring the baby and and I went and went and I came back and I was leaving and I saw the baby. The baby was crying. I had my weapons on. >> And then you no longer saw the parents. >> Okay. >> It was kind of like she saw them, >> right? >> Putting the baby in the stroller and she like kind of looped the parking lot and then all of a sudden they were just gone. She she doesn't remember seeing if they got in a car. >> Conflicting accounts emerge as a young woman and a man argue over responsibility and claim the baby was left with the other. >> Wrong. >> That's why I went around. I had to something was wrong with them. >> Okay. >> Diapers, water, formula. >> Very weird. >> An original caller named Del. He called in about the female, gave an approximate age, and knew her name. >> Wait. Yeah, we got to get him back. >> Yeah, copy. Can we call him back and see where he is? We need him to come back. >> What's going on? You got me in the mix of this. >> What's going on? >> This girl had me drive her around all day to get help because she didn't have a rod or nothing. >> All of a sudden, she >> What's going on? >> Where's Where's the baby? >> You're telling him I left him with the baby? >> Who are you? The father? >> No. >> Officers attempt to clarify parental roles, asking about the birth certificate and custody while reviewing nearby surveillance cameras. >> Is he the father? >> Are you the mother? >> She's here because >> Ma'am, look at me. Are you the mother of the baby? >> Yeah. And he's the father. >> Where is the baby? >> He left it at the hospital. I gave him the baby. >> No, you're lying. >> No, I'm lying. >> Look, let me tell you exactly what happened. >> Okay. >> She says take me to to the hospital. Actually, >> so you're you're fine that your baby is is You don't know where your baby is right now? >> I'm asking him where my baby is. >> Was she there? Was she there with you? >> You know what? Yeah, I I'm the one that took him to the hospital. >> Okay. >> But what she did was she was like, "Come inside with me. I'm going inside." And as we're going inside, she's talking crazy to me. So I said, "No, I'm done, bro. I'm going home." I start going home. She runs back to the truck with the with the baby and parks it in front the other car >> and leaves. >> I think you should be >> How How did she leave? >> You see how she say You see how she's saying I'm delusional? There's cameras. >> The mother acknowledges being the child's parent, but continues giving inconsistent explanations about where the baby was left. >> How did she leave? >> She walked off. >> Let's run. >> How did you get over here, ma'am? Did you walk? >> I walked. >> So you left your baby in the parking lot. >> I left him with the baby. The baby was in front of >> There's cameras. Check the cameras. It's not our baby. I'm not even on the birth. Listen, she's here because >> she's here because she thinks she thinks that this guy is the baby father. That's why she's here. >> Okay. Come on. >> Because she thinks she already back to your child. >> You need to take him back to the child. >> Ma'am, who's on the birth certificate? >> Him. His last name is on there. >> I didn't sign no birth certificate. She put my name on it. >> It's your last name. Go get the baby. >> So So you put my last name on the birth certificate. >> Did the baby come out of your vagina? >> No. >> No. >> Didn't come out my vagina. >> Did it Did you have a C-section? Did you carry this child? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. And now it is in a parking lot unattended. >> Correct. >> Go get the baby. >> Did the baby come out? >> Did you just stand up? >> What did you arrest me for? >> For child neglect. Stop. >> Police detain the mother while witnesses and the man involved provide sworn statements describing the events. >> Why are you here? You can tell the truth. >> Ma'am, you don't got to do that. >> Okay. Well, you're not grabbing stuff. Okay. >> The more you lie, the more I don't care. >> They detain me. Bye. >> There's cameras. >> They detain me. Bye. What else? Anything on you? >> No. You got what you want cameras. I didn't get what I want. >> Yes, you did. >> Why'd you do this? This is crazy what you did. >> This is crazy. >> She was telling me it's not her child. >> She was saying it's not her child. >> Somebody switched her child at the hospital. >> Probably going to take her to HQ. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry, but for what? You should be speaking too. >> Why are you Bro, >> can I get your bag number? >> You sure can. 2110. >> 2110. Please stand right here up against Star. >> A witness explains assisting the mother earlier in the day and states the baby was intentionally left behind before police were called. >> Need to put your seat belt on. We'll bring your stuff with you >> and my phone. >> I spoke to this lady a long time ago and this lady told me about her. How do you know this lady? >> I met on 45th Street actually the gas station >> like a year ago. >> Okay. So, today you're driving her around with the baby. The baby has a doctor's appointment. >> The shelter >> from Vanova. >> Yeah. Cuz she's she's homeless. >> Okay. >> I was helping her sister pay for a hotel for her. >> I'm driving her around different locations. Vita Nova, the shelter. Everything was fine until this afternoon. She she went to clean the baby and she said the baby is sick. I think something is going on with the stool or something. And I'm like, "What's going on with the stool?" She She said a word I don't understand. >> Okay. >> She said, "Take her to the hospital." I said, "Okay." I go inside the gas station. I come out and she's walking off with her bag. And I'm like, "Yo, wait, wait, wait, wait. What you doing?" >> Leaving you with the baby. >> Leaving me with the baby. She told me, "Hey, take her take her uh take her to the hospital. Take her to his house." I said, "I'm not taking her to Carlo's house. You take your baby to Carlo's house." >> She was She was like, "This ain't my baby. He's Hispanic." I'm like, "How is it not your baby?" >> Right. So she carried it and gave birth to it. >> She's a little she's a little a little gone. >> She gets and I begged her and I begged her to go to St. Mary's, right? >> She's saying, "I want you to come inside with me cuz I don't want these people to say nothing. I want you to come." So I stopped to go inside with her and we're going inside and as we're going inside, she's calling me all kind of names. I'm like, "Why the hell are you talking to me like that?" And she's talking and she's call I said, "Yo, I'm out. This camera's in front. I'm sure there's cameras in there and you're going to see me do like this, man. I'm leaving. >> I'm leaving." >> You walk away and she still has the baby. Does she still have the baby? >> Okay. >> Hm. >> Why isn't he Why aren't you guys getting a report? >> I'm sure we are. Are you >> okay? >> I get to my car. I see her coming like this >> with the stroller. >> Parks it right here and then walks off. So I I say, "Yo, I get on my phone. I pull out. I say I'm calling the cops. I tell her as she's walking away." >> Another bystander gives a sworn statement describing how they discovered the unattended stroller and contacted authorities. Hey, I Hey, I'm calling the cops. >> Is your name Prince? >> Yes. >> Okay, so you were the one that called the cops. Okay. >> Hey, I'm calling the cops. Come back and get your baby. And I knew I kind of knew she would come here because this is a person that she keeps saying is the baby daddy. >> Some guy named Carlos. Okay. >> Before you came, she's all about this is not my baby. He's Hispanic. He's Hispanic. This is my I said, "Yo, what? You're crazy. This is your baby. Somebody is switching. You think somebody came and swapped your baby?" >> What's your phone number, Delvin? Can you raise your right hand for me? You swear everything you've told me is the truth. the whole truth and nothing about the truth. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Perfect. Put your hand down. I appreciate it. >> I'm a >> For the record, it's it's not your child. >> It's not my child. >> The child's going to end up in DCF custody. >> Look, me. >> It's not It's not your child. You You didn't sign the birth certificate. >> A birth. I didn't even see a birth certificate. >> Okay. >> But it it is not your baby to your knowledge. >> How did she put my She said she put my name in. >> I don't think No, you have to sign for a birth certificate. So there that's not Yeah. >> And you know, I didn't even see a birth. >> If we need something If we need something, I'm going to call you. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Thank you. >> And then uh uh this is going to be a sworn statement. Will you raise your right hand for me? I'm going to swear you in. >> Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? >> Absolutely. >> You swear everything you're going to provide is on your own free will and I didn't force you to do it. Correct. Okay. So, what happened exactly? and I put it in. >> So, I was I was parked on the side of the of the road with my car there and I was I was just um looking at my phone and I saw the the car pulled in, but I'm not sure exactly what kind of car cuz I didn't pay that much close attention, but I saw the the dad and the mom. So, the dad actually pulled the stroller out of the car and put the baby in the stroller, but somehow I knew something was wrong, so I went around just to make sure. So, a a black male pulled the baby out of the car and put the baby in. >> Female. Yes. But the black male was the one that put the baby in the stroller. Okay. So, my instinct was like something is wrong. I don't know why. I just have that instinct. So, and I went drive around and I drove around and I came back and I saw the baby with the stroller. First, I wasn't sure if the baby was in it. Then, I heard the noise cuz my window was open and I heard the baby was crying. I was like, "What's a baby? Somebody forgot the baby." And I went to look in the crew that the the stroller was parked in. See if somebody was in there with nobody there. That's when I picked up the baby and that's what I called the cop. >> So you were driving around saw the two the couple. One was a guy a guy. Can you describe the guy at all or no? >> It was both African-American like you said very slender uh very kind of ghetto. Um so yeah. So they look kind of you know. >> Okay. So the guy ended up taking the baby out of the stroller, placing the baby in the stroller, and then where was the female at the time? She >> the female was getting the stuff out of the car, >> but I'm not sure exactly what card and look at the >> right. So then the the you will end up saying, you know, this doesn't look right. >> So you end up circling back around. After you circle back around the next time, you see the baby stroller all by itself. Yeah. >> And then and then you didn't suspect the baby was in the stroller, but then you heard the baby crying. It's like the baby was there. Okay. Did he Did uh did anybody like shout at you outside of the car or anything? >> No shout at me at all. Yeah. Yeah. I was surprised. Yeah. >> And then so then you ended up getting the baby and calling 911. >> Yeah. I took the baby off and then and I that's when I called you guys. >> Okay. Perfect. All right. That concludes the statement. >> Thank you. >> You have my number. >> The mother is advised of her rights, admits leaving the baby unattended and officers confirm child protective services have taken custody. >> So if I need anything, I will give you a call. We're going to go to that door over there. >> Is your ID and stuff in this backpack? >> All right. >> Oh, you singing? >> That's not my baby. That's his >> Again, I am not the the officer in charge of this investigation. I am here with you. I don't know what's going on over there. I I talking to me. >> They are going to talk to you. >> It's been over 30 minutes. >> Things don't just happen on your timeline. That's not how it works. >> Okay. The paramedics are the paramedics are going to be here in a minute. >> You guys have >> I'm not conducting this investigation. That's why I have not spoken to you. >> Just Just hang tight. There's nothing I can do to make this go any faster. >> Hi. >> Hello. >> How you doing? >> I'm doing good. >> Yeah. What's going on? My teeth just burst from getting um chewing on a bar. >> The back one. >> Mhm. >> You feel it? >> No, I'm okay. >> Yeah. I mean, we we wouldn't take you to the hospital for that. You need a dentist. >> I'm not going to go to the hospital. >> Okay. What's your uh >> I got her information if you want to hear from me. >> All right. >> Sorry to waste your time. Like I said, this is a first for me. I figured it was something I should call you for. >> What's your name? >> Holene. Okay. I'm officer Earth with the West Palm Beach Police Department. I'm the person that's going to be taking this case. So, I just got to read you these statements. Okay. I'm required to warn you before you make any statements that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Do you understand? >> Okay. You have to like remove them so I can hear you say yes. >> Yeah. Yes. Okay. Any statements can and may be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand? Any statements you make must be free and voluntarily given. Do you understand? So, I just want to show you a picture first. Is uh this your baby? Your child? >> I'm not sure, but yeah, I believe so. >> You sure? Okay. You You don't know if that's your child or it is your child? >> Look like me. >> Okay. That is her. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You can be honest with me. I mean, I just have to know for my reports. So, that's her. Correct. Your kid. Okay. So, what happened today then? >> Um I wanted to take her to the hospital to see um what was going on with her. What was what was wrong with her? >> Um I I think she had seen >> what's was that >> in her poop? It was like she had I wanted to go see if she was okay. She kept having these cucumbs and she kept pooping everywhere. And I also wanted to do a DNA a DNA test to make sure like, hey, this is your kid. This is my kid. You know, we both black and our kid look, you know. >> Who whose kid? >> Prince. >> Is your daughter's name Prince? So, who's this other prince? Devil prince. >> So, you wanted to You guys were going there to go get a DNA. >> He didn't want to take a DNA test. >> Okay. >> So, as we were walking, he turned he turned around and I spoke with him. I ran to him and I gave him the baby and I ran away cuz he was like, "Why would you do that?" >> Well, you gave him the baby. How did you do that? >> I left the baby right in front of where he was by the car. >> Okay. So you left the baby there, but he didn't sign any birth certificate or anything like that. >> No, he didn't. He was there for the birth. >> Oh, he was there for the birth. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So you left the baby and then what happened after that? Where did you end up going after that? >> And then I walked to my ex's house the way he acted just doing my whole mold. >> Okay. So then you ended up leaving the baby in a parking lot or by his car. >> Yeah. >> And then did he drive off or did you drive off? Did you walk away? >> He took the baby. >> He took the baby. >> Yeah. Okay. Is there a reason why the baby was found in the parking lot then by a bystander? >> Well, I don't know. I seen the car seat in the thing. >> What? You seen the car seat in his car? So, you assume he had the baby? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I don't know. I'm not tripping. >> Okay. >> Maybe he did leave the baby in there. But yeah, I ran away. >> Is there a reason why you didn't come go back after he told you? >> Yeah. I wanted him to stop following me and then I was going to go back eventually. I just needed to calm down. >> Okay. All right. So, you just So, making sure I understand it. The baby, you put the baby by his car and then you walked away. >> Yeah. >> Okay. But you but so you left the baby unattended. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. Do you want to provide me any other statements or anything that you want to say? >> No. Okay. So, you know, obviously since you're here, I'm going to end up taking you into jail. It's going to be for child neglect. Um, at the point at this point, your DCF has the kid and your sister's coming to pick up the kid. Okay. So, I'm just going to pretty much write what you just told me. The incident concluded with the baby placed into protective custody and the mother was arrested and charged with child neglect. Authorities coordinated medical evaluation and initiated child welfare proceedings to determine the baby's long-term care. Remember, infants depend entirely on responsible adult supervision. And lapses in judgment can have serious legal consequences. When caregivers feel overwhelmed, seeking help is critical before a situation escalates. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. I can't understand how anyone could walk away from a newborn like that. Thank goodness a stranger noticed and called for help. This situation is heartbreaking and completely avoidable. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam catches a split-second decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. The next incident is when mom abandons her two toddlers at home for a night of drinking. >> All right. You're being arrested. Hi. >> Try on neglect. >> On February 16th, 2024, police respond after a father returns home and discovers his two young children were left alone while their mother was away. >> Okay. Well, I want to >> I'm just going to swear you in and then you're going to tell me what happened. All right. Just raise your right hand. Just state your name. >> Emerson. >> All right. Put your hand down. Just tell me what happened tonight. So, I arrived home around 10:00. >> Around 10:00. >> Um, entered the apartment, heard the baby crying, >> and went into the bedroom, saw the baby was >> The father explains he arrived home around 10:0 p.m., heard the younger child crying, and realized the mother was not present. >> The crib and um I steps on the seven-year-old trying to console her. Thought maybe, you know, my wife was in the bathroom or something. I got her a bottle. And I said, "Where's where's mom?" And he said, "She left." And I said, "Are you sure? Like she's not taking the trash out or something." He said, "No, she left." I said, "When?" He said, "I don't know." I looked at my text messages. I mean, I normally would be getting home now. I was done early. >> Okay. >> Um, >> everything happened to her. >> Yeah. Um, the last contact that I had with her was like maybe quarter after 8. She had texted me at >> He confirms the last contact with the mother was earlier in the evening and that she did not inform him she was leaving >> for Thomas's our son's remote for his TV. >> That's your stepson, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um I didn't see the text or anything like I run a restaurant. So >> yeah, you were busy. >> All of a sudden, you know, was like getting ready to leave and I responded back. I said, "Hey." >> Okay. So that was at 8:00. >> That was around like 9:30. >> Okay. Right before I got in the car to head home. >> Okay. >> Um, yeah, like I said, got home, found him. >> How was the seven-year-old? >> Um, so I contacted his father. >> Okay. >> Um, his father instruct me to bring him to his grandparents who are staying at >> Officers gather information about the children's condition and confirm arrangements to place them safely with family members. >> Airbnb down the street. >> Where are they staying? >> No. Was Remy crying when she was crying? >> Yeah. Was her diaper changed? >> Uh, no. >> And she was sick also, so she had like snow all over. >> Okay. >> Now, this is the other father, correct? >> Yeah. He's a firefighter. >> Can I just click his name to get his phone number? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> So, why did he not call? >> I told him not to contact her and told him, "Don't have her your parents contact her because I wanted >> So, where is he right now? Where? I believe so. Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Just raise your right hand. >> Law enforcement contacts the children's other parent, explains the situation, and notifies them that child welfare services will be involved. >> Is everything you told me the truth? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I'm just going to call >> I mean, at this point, the mental health thing is like the big issue, right? Like I I talked to another deputy or whatever earlier, and they were describing the difference between Marchman and Baker, and I I'm I was a mental health professional. have a certified addiction counselor. >> Okay. >> So, you have her location correct? >> I do not. >> The sister does. Can I just get her phone number? Not the sister. The your wife. >> Yeah. >> Is this Tom? Okay. You have a son named Thomas also correct? Who is seven? Okay. Now, I am being told you got a phone call today about him being left. Okay. Are you at the address in West Palm? >> No. right now. No, I'm at work. >> What happened tonight? >> Yeah, her husband, he called me. He observed that both children were home alone and they were both awake. >> Okay. Now, have you spoken to your parents who have your child now? Did they say he had any injury or was distraught or anything of that nature? >> No. Well, I did. I spoke to him on the phone. >> Okay. >> He was talking his normal self. >> Okay, perfect. So, I just wanted to touch base with you because obviously >> Officers locate the mother at a bar and place her under arrest explaining the reason for the detention. >> She is going to be arrested. >> Okay. >> Obviously, I do have to contact DCF in regards to this obviously. So, they might be reaching out to you, but other than that, that's going to be it for right now. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> All right. You have any questions? >> Did you like Did you find her? >> For right now, she's at the bar. >> Okay. Yeah. I mean, if she's at the bar, she left the home. So, >> yes. >> All right. >> All right. All right. Have a good night. You're welcome. >> Turn around. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. >> What's happening? >> You're okay. >> The mother becomes emotionally distressed during the arrest and mentions personal struggles while officers continue the booking process. >> Coming back towards us. Come over to the right. Courtney, right? >> Yeah. >> What's happening? >> You got anything on you? >> No. >> All right. You're being arrested. >> Why? >> Trial and neglect. >> What did my husband call? >> I'll explain everything to you. >> Okay. >> You have anything in your bra? >> I don't think so. >> Who is this guy? >> Who? >> Who is the guy that you're with? >> A friend of mine. >> Why? What's going on? >> Going to place you in my car and I will speak to you. I know. Take a seat. >> All right, Courtney. I'm going to read you your Miranda. Okay. >> Okay. >> Do you have right to remain silent, not answer any questions? Do you understand? You have to say yes or no for my camera. >> Yes. >> Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Do you understand? >> Mhm. >> You got to speak up. >> Yeah. >> If you cannot afford a lawyer, you are entitled to the presence and representation of a quarterointed lawyer before you make any statement during any question. Do you understand? >> No. >> No. No, >> I don't even know what happened. >> You left your sevenyear-old and your 16month old baby alone. >> Okay. My husband was home. >> He was not home. >> Okay. Well, I want to myself. >> Officers speak calmly with the seven-year-old child, asking basic questions to document the situation for the investigation. You >> don't want to do you'll just be alone naked in a cell. That's what you're going to say. I'm going to be alone in a cell. >> Yeah. If you're suicidal, you'll be alone in a cell with no clothes to make sure you don't hurt yourself. >> So, you're rejecting me like mental health care. >> You'll get it at the jail. >> You must not have much patience with mental health, do you? >> What? >> What? I'm like mentally like out here like I need to be in hospital. >> Well, well, what? You'll get the help at uh jail. >> Well, >> when you get out, hopefully you can continue to get help. >> I didn't do anything wrong. I just want to go home. I'm not trying to go to jail, dude. >> How many times have you been arrested? >> Too many times, girl. >> What? >> Some dumb. >> I'm a addict and I'm struggling. >> You got arrested for drugs? >> Yeah. >> That's not good. You have kids at home? I got arrested on childhood lights. Like, I'm not trying to do that again. >> What did you get arrested for? >> Child. >> Wow. Look at that. You got it round, too. >> All right, Thomas. I just want to talk to you. Okay. >> Okay. >> You want to sit? How old are you? >> Seven. >> Oh, so you're smart. What do you want to be when you get older? >> Police explained to the father that court orders and child protective services involvement are likely to follow. Firefighter like daddy. >> You know you're not in trouble, right? >> Yeah. >> Are you scared? >> No. >> You nervous right now? >> No. >> All right, good. You're brave for coming to talk to me. You were at mommy's yesterday. >> Yeah. >> You have a little sister? You like having a little sister? >> Kind of. >> Kind of. So, what happened at mommy's? >> She was like going somewhere. I was by myself. >> Okay. Do you know how long you were by yourself for? 30 minutes or an hour or something. >> 30 minutes or an hour? >> Yeah. >> What did you do when mommy left? Did mommy tell you where she was going? >> No, >> I don't remember. >> That's okay. You don't have to remember. Were you scared when mommy left? No. You were able to take care of yourself? I know you're big. All right, that's it. I'm done. Do you have any questions for me? >> No. >> You're really brave. You're a great big brother. I'll talk to you without him. Sorry for making you come out. >> I just have to get on camera, but obviously I know she left, >> but it just solidifies it even more for the court, >> right? >> Um, she was arrested last night. I arrested her at the bar. >> Most likely what will happen is there's going to >> The incident concluded with the mother arrested on a charge of child neglect, child protective services notified, and temporary court restrictions expected regarding contact with the children while follow-up investigations proceed. Remember, leaving young children without proper supervision can result in serious legal and family consequences. Personal struggles do not remove parental responsibility, especially when children's safety is involved. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. Absolutely unacceptable. Kids depend on adults to make responsible choices. This is heartbreaking. Children should never be put in a position like this. No excuses when it comes to protecting your own kids. You think the officers were out of options here? Watch what happens next on the body cam and tell us if you would have done the same. The next incident is when three-year-old found alone at the beach almost ends in tragedy. >> All right. Somebody found her daughter in the water. >> Some citizen little girl saw the baby. >> Yeah. >> Ma'am, >> what? On April 24th, 2024, police respond at a resort beach after a three-year-old child is pulled from the water by a bystander while the mother is not present. >> He's right behind you. >> Listen, we're like aing five adults here with two of my kids. I just came to to take him to the beach. I understand, but when you're questioning why somebody else is holding your daughter, that means that you should have been there to >> But literally, we were all paying attention to it. Like, I was literally just leaving. >> How could everybody be paying attention if an honest citizen that don't even know >> what's going on right now? Like, I don't understand with a 5-year-old brother, right? >> What is going on? >> You left your daughter in the beach with a sibling that's 5 years old. was going to be watching them. >> She was drown. >> The mother insists she only stepped away briefly and repeatedly states she is a good mom while officers explain the seriousness of the situation. >> Someone had to take it out of the water cuz she almost Do you understand that question? >> I'm a good mom. >> We're not saying you're not a good mom. It's going to be for141. >> I'm not saying you're a bad mom. I'm not saying that you're not a bad mom. I never said >> you stepped away from them. >> Police clarify that the child entered deeper water and required intervention by a civilian preventing a potential fatal outcome. >> For like 5 minutes, >> we left them with a 5-year-old and she ended up someone had to go into the water cuz she went too deep and she was taken in water and she almost and people in the beach had to step in and get her out from the water cuz she almost Do you understand where we're at right now? Where were you at that point? >> Mom, >> I was literally right there. I've been checking on her every five location. >> I BROUGHT A BLANKET. I BROUGHT WATER. I BROUGHT COKE. I brought everything for them to be comfortable for today. >> Literally last night was my birthday. Today I'm like, "Okay, I'm going to spend time with my kids. I've been with them all day." Like if that happened for like a second, I'm so sorry. >> You know, like if that person WOULD HAVE STEPPED UP, SHE WOULD HAVE >> I'M NOT a bad mom. I don't know what >> a witness bartender explains the mother had walked a heavily intoxicated friend to the restroom, assuming others would watch the children. >> You never said that you're a bad mom, but what I'm saying is a what occurred. You stepped away. SHE ALMOST >> I UNDERSTAND. >> I know it's for a second. I understand that. Yes, sir. >> So, she was at my bar and she had the kids. And the truth is when the friend got drunk, I think she thought the men were looking after the babies. She literally has had them the whole time. And I if she wasn't if she was parent, I would have said, "So, I'm a foster parent. I f I foster through citrus. I'm adopted. I'm very big on kids." She has had them the whole time. >> And so, when her friend was stumbling drug, these are her friend shoes. I think it's her shoes. She took it to the bathroom because she's like she's throwing up, you know. So that's I don't want you to believe that she just she wasn't just not being a mom. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So where's the friend at now? Or did she leave somebody else in charge? >> So she went to go she went to go to take her to the bathroom. She said her brother and her friends I I I think they assumed that the brother and the friend were going to be watching while they were in the in the women's room cuz she literally just went. She was not. She's literally been there the whole time and the kids were with her. I'm not trying to be funny, but they really were. Officers piece together conflicting accounts and confirm the mother was not physically present when the child entered the water. >> So I I she wasn't not being a good mom. >> Okay, I'll pass that on to my partner. >> Okay. Whatever. >> That's her friend's shoes. That's not her shoes. >> Hold on, ma'am. Hold on. >> Somebody found her daughter. I understand that. >> All right. Somebody found her daughter in the water. >> Some citizen little girl saw the baby. >> Yeah. The baby's out. Yeah. She's wondering why somebody else is holding her daughter and you're trying to tell her you were not there for her. That's why another citizen is a bartender or waitress is holding your child. Why doesn't she know that a citizen is not holding her child? >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to her? >> Just give me one second. >> But I came to tell them that you guys took your friend to the bathroom and in that moment that's all it was. Like it wasn't she wasn't who was in charge at that time? >> Look, I went with her friend and she was concerned like she >> if you just Where's her daughter? Can I make sure she's okay? >> Yeah, she's with Sergeant Benedetti. He's over there underneath the Yeah, you can go over there. Yeah. >> Okay, thank you. Stay here. Okay, calm down. He's the a bartender at out at one of the tiki bars and he's ascertain he's sticking up for her saying all the time she's been with her child. She always been there. She's not drunk. She hasn't been doing anything. What happened was they were >> the mother denies excessive drinking becomes emotionally distressed and argues that the incident happened for a second >> walking a drunk friend over to the bathroom. So, she kind of left the kids there alone, thinking the two other men were going to take care of the kids while she walked a drunk friend to the bathroom. So, that's he's defending her as a bartender, saying she's been with those kids all the time. This was just one incident. She walked away thinking that the men are going to take care of it and watch the two the two kids, you know. But, um, so she did. She walked her friend when they said she left 15 minutes ago. That's what she did. She walked over to to meet the bathroom. Now, this lady flashed a badge in my face. I didn't read it. Um, she just wanted to know what's going on, but apparently they're both friends, you know. >> Let me talk tomorrow cuz that the statue is to be like 15 minutes. I have to read the statute. I haven't made one of these cases. >> Mhm. >> I don't got a camera yet. >> Who's your friend here? The She showed me a badge. Who does she work with? >> This is my friend. She comes from Texas. She became a cop. My other friend is here from like Talahasi. It's a big birthday. >> Uhhuh. >> I just brought her. a cop in Texas. >> Yeah, she just I just brought my kids here to have a good time. I'm not drunk. I'm not anything. If I lost sight of her for a second, then it was a second. >> EMS is called to evaluate the child who shows signs of having inhaled water. Police continue the investigation. >> But when you walked your friend, you walked your friend to the bathroom. >> No, I never went to the bathroom. I was here. I was watching them the whole time. I don't even know when the this happens. Like I >> Well, little kids, it happens quick. >> No, I know. I know, BUT I BROUGHT A BLANKET. I brought drinks. I bought water. Like, this was our day. I don't know why I'm even here. Like, I didn't even know that was happening. I'm a good mom. Like, >> I've never had a felony. I've never done I've never done anything. Like, I don't even know why I'm here. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> You know what I mean? And I respect you 100%. I respect your job and everything. I understand. >> We're trying to match up why a citizen found your daughter in the water. That's what I'm saying. >> No, no, no. She came her own family. >> No, no, no. We were here at the bar and I brought them and I put sunscreen on them and everything. And I was watching them and then she came to me because my kid didn't want to like share toys with her kid or something like that. And I'm like, "Listen, I brought enough >> I brought enough toys for them to play together, you know?" And she's like, "Oh, okay then. It's fine. Like, whatever my kid will share. You get me?" And I'm like, "Okay." And I was watching them the whole time. I really don't know why I'm here. I'm a great mom. You can talk to them individually. Whatever you want to say. I don't care. >> And roughly about how many drinks you had? Just one. >> Just three. Not even. I don't even drink like that. I did. I literally don't drink. I work from home. I'm an insurance agent. I work for Medicare. I work for the government. >> 7220. Can you have rescue 23 in route to >> officers informed the mother that without the bystander's actions, the situation could have resulted in a death investigation. >> Gilbert's female restroom. Uh unknown right now. >> It just like >> Did you call EMS? >> Yeah, we called the EMS. Yeah. >> It's just like flag flabbergasting that I'm in this situation, you know. Yes, ma'am. >> Hi. >> Hello. >> No, I was just wondering what what's what's going on. >> We'll talk to you right now. Right. Give us a few minutes, right? >> All right, >> ma'am. Stand up for me. >> You back. All right. >> Why am I getting a rest for? What am I getting? >> Ma'am, >> what up my kids? Relax. I >> understand you love your kids. Accidents happen, right? If it wasn't for that bystander, we'll be doing a death investigation right now, right? >> Child protective services are notified and family members are arranged to take custody of the children. >> It's my birthday and I came to take my kids to the beach like it was a second. >> Watch your foot. You don't mind watching her, man? Sorry. >> No, no, I watch her. >> It's a cluster. Phone. >> You have a picture key. >> Your other friend that you came with, she's going to the hospital >> with the baby? >> No. No. The other friend, there's another friend in the toilet that came with this party. She's going to the hospital. She's extremely drunk. >> Oh. >> She almost got taken by some random dude and probably got taken a man if it would have occurred. So, she's going to the hospital now. She says she's with her. Maybe not. She's extremely costic. She's going to be going to jail today. >> Okay. And you're taking her where? >> To the Plantation Key Jail. And >> Plantation. >> I'll give you the address. Were you present when the child was by the beach? >> No, I just got here right now. >> Yeah. So, uh, she left. She thought her brother was watching the kid. She left the little girl with her 5-year-old brother. She someone had to go into the water and take it out of the water before she >> So, she wanted to go go to jail for that. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Just to let you know. >> Hello. >> I'm getting you. >> I'm just letting you know. She wants to know what happened. Told her she's going to jail here for the video. You have to save it as uh it's going to take long. But here's the dunk drive for the video. >> Save the video. Camera. >> I can save this right now. Security guard. He said that there's a lady back there coming to pick up the children. >> I don't know what lady got. He's right here. >> We got to call this. What's next? >> Observe any violation. >> I'm calling DCF now. >> They're going to call biological grandma. >> Uhhuh. >> To come and pick either grandma or dad >> to pick the kids up. >> Uhhuh. >> Because mom and dad are not together. >> Uhhuh. >> Right now. The only family that we have >> is we have brother. They have so they're your niece and nephew, right? >> We have one that is over. So if you listen your niece and nephew, they're your niece and nephew. I can turn them over to you. >> I just need your license. >> Name and date of birth. >> Give a pen. >> Bro, I just wait. But they're saying that you could take them if if you give them. >> We just need to document who the kids went to. >> Yeah. I just really >> Can I explain who who's has your children? Who's coming for them? >> No. All right. >> I'm a great >> Your your brother. You have another brother? >> I have two brothers. >> All right. The other brother's coming down to pick up your children. >> Yes, they're great brothers. My brother, everybody's insane. >> I understand. But it seems like maybe everybody had one drink or two drinks. I don't know how many. >> I don't know why I'm here. >> So maybe we get another person coming down. brought them here to have a good time. I I I I was not expecting this at all. >> I just brought my mom. >> Yeah. Sergeant Benedetti told her. I'm telling her. >> She's just a little side is beautiful. >> What's your other uh brother's name? >> He's actually here and we're going to take the kids back home. >> Okay, I'll tell her then. All right. >> Yeah, just tell her to just calm down. She's just >> Yeah. Yeah, I understand, man. Anybody for kids? No, no problem. Yeah, your brothers are going to take the kids home. Okay. >> Okay. >> And your friend, your uh >> practically live with me. It's fine. I don't care. >> Hello. Hi. >> Good. You >> can I just tell her something? >> Go ahead. >> Please. >> Melissa, I didn't >> listen to me. Listen to me. >> Just stay back for >> Okay. Okay. Listen. No, don't talk. >> Okay. I'm not talking. But I didn't do anything. Melissa, >> you just calm down. Okay. >> Oh my god. Melissa, >> I know who you are. >> Why am I in this car RIGHT NOW? MELISSA, >> I'M NOT GOING TO HELP. I'M GOING TO GO with She did this to her brother. I tried to give her a chance and she doesn't want to listen. >> There's a second chance I'm giving her. >> Calm down. >> I bought toys for >> Stop. Stop. Stop. >> I'm a good mother. >> I got you. >> Stop. You need to calm down. Listen. LOOK AT ME. >> I MAKE >> STOP. I'M A GLASS. >> STOP. >> Y, >> do me a favor. Just walk away. I mean, please. I'm going to roll out the window. >> I respect you. >> All right. Thank you. >> I'm a par officer. I respect you. Okay. >> All right. I gave her a chance with her brother. I gave her a chance with you. >> I appreciate you. Thank you. >> All right. Sorry about that. >> The mother was arrested on a charge of child neglect. The child was medically evaluated and DCF, Child Protective Services, were notified. Custody was temporarily transferred to family members pending further investigation. Remember, young children near water require constant direct adult supervision, even for brief moments. Assuming someone else is watching a child, can lead to life-threatening consequences. This is the reaction of netzens to the situation. A 5-year-old is not a babysitter, especially at the beach. This could have ended so much worse. Thank God for the bystander. One moment of distraction can change everything. The tension is already high, or so it seems. But the body cam captures next. Save the life. pause and comment what you do here. The next incident is when police step in when 13-year-old arrives at school visibly harmed. >> It's out of control. He wants to smoke. He wants to fight. He wants to be belligerent, call crazy, reckless. On August 22nd, 2023, officers are called to a school after a 13-year-old student arrives with visible injuries, claiming his mother struck him during a morning argument. >> I know here to talk to you >> right now. At the present moment, you're not under arrest. So, let's start from the beginning. Okay. I'm officer Gilbert, Atlanta Police Department. The reason I was called here today is because of the incident that happened with your son. >> First question is, where do you guys live? We said 2255. >> So several officers out there. He stole my This is not the first time this qualification. >> The mother admits to slapping her son during a verbal dispute in the car, stating he was being disrespectful and out of control. >> Disrespectful. He wants to, you know, talk to me crazy in my house. I'm not. >> How old is he? >> He's 13. >> Okay. So, what happened this morning? This morning he hopped first of all he woke up with the wrong attitude cuz he didn't want to come to school get up. I said eat your breakfast. Eat breakfast. No problem. Let's go. He gets in the back of the car. You know he's just talking to I don't you know just talking reckless. I reach back and I said you're going to watch your mouth. >> Oh this you put your hands on me. We're we're we're on the side of the road in in in in traffic. You don't want to calm down. Officers discuss the legal difference between chastisement and battery, noting that injury severity matters. >> I got my other son in the car. You want to all act all belligerent. You I'm chasing you all around. >> So, keep going. Keep going. >> Like from the slap. That that's what uh that's what brought that blood to his head. >> He said you hit him with a soda can. >> I didn't hit I don't even have no soda cans. >> That sounds like chastisement, >> not battery. >> Tired of him, man. I'm sick of >> Would you agree? Yeah, >> cuz if my son or daughter were telling me to go myself, I'd slap him in the face. >> Okay, cool. >> Cool. All right. >> Can y'all talk to him? >> Where is he? >> I go get him. >> Maybe an information 17 as a CYA. >> True. >> What can >> unruly petition? >> I already have an unruly petition. >> That's all we can do. Listen, I understand your frustration, but we don't have no control over the juvenile system. Trust me, if we did, things would be completely different. We have no control. That's why you know how if you go to court where you got to go forth county big right when he goes he go forth county ju the 13-year-old gives his account stating his mother hit him with a metal container pulled his hair and attempted to choke him. >> All right. What happened this morning? >> So in the house cuz I just got back from yesterday. >> Okay. Hold on. Hold on. I was about to ask you did you need me to step out? >> All right. Go ahead. Yeah, I just got back yesterday was in the house, woke up, put my clothes on, stuff like that. So, made me a bowl of cereal and then mom just came in there and started tripping. She was like, "Oh yeah, y'all just eat all my food and stuff like that." So, I was just like, I just got back all I had just got a bowl of [ __ ] She just kept on egging on me. So, then I just left the room, just went to the car and stuff. So then she came outside and then she came outside with attitude started tripping again. So we in the car driving to take my baby brother to school. So we going back and forth like she pulled over like all I knew like she had like a little can I think it was car wheel or something like a man can like hit me. >> Let me see. >> Officers observe a significant head laceration that appears to require stitches raising concerns beyond simple discipline. >> Yeah. Take a band. Okay. my head just trying to beat me. I was just pulling my hair and stuff like that. >> Okay. She stopped and we got that driver off. >> So, what were y'all arguing about? >> It started off with us arguing about us. We eat some juice and just from that her just cuz I was like she kept saying like how she bought everything and I was just like mommy you going to buy everything and stuff like that. So she got mad and stuff like that. So then she pulled the car and she just started fighting and started. >> Was you calling your mom by her name? >> No, I wasn't. >> You weren't disrespectful. >> I wouldn't call her her name. I might have cussed a couple times, but I wasn't calling her out name tripping and stuff like that. >> What was it that she hit you with? >> It was like a metal can with some type of liquid inside of me like kind of like a spray bottle but just in the metal can short then she started me stuff like that. >> And you didn't fight her back at all. Sit tight for a second, man. Sounds like the most rehearsed I've heard in my life. >> They asked me to call law enforcement and then I said that our school resource officer already called and then um she just was like, "Okay." And then she >> school officials and DCF discussed temporary placement. The mother agrees the child should stay with his grandmother for the night. >> She was like, "Could we not send the whole child home with the mother?" But I said we don't have no control over that. And then the defects lady asked me for his grandmother and I gave it to her. So she said that she was but I don't know. But when I spoke with the grandmother, she said that she releas I don't know. >> Let's see if we can get her to agree to releasing the grandmother for at least a night so it doesn't elevate or escalate any further. Okay. >> Yeah. >> She said she had >> I'm not 100% sure. >> Who picked up the car, Gilbert? Where are those keys at? >> White. I don't know who the keys. >> White had the keys. White picked up the car. >> They said under arrest. They said it was time. >> Uh, I'm not 100% sure. I'm dealing with this at the moment. Give him a call. >> Does grandma live with you? >> No. You want the kid to go home with grandma? >> I do because my son is out of control. He wants to smoke. He wants to fight. He wants to be belligerent, taught crazy, reckless. This is not the first altercation we've had. He slammed me into a wall at the house. He stole my I have an open case about that. He was just at my mother's house cursing. He was at my mother. He cursed my mama all the way out. You >> he come home to your house? >> He came home yesterday when I got >> How long had he been at grandma's house? He ain't been at grandma's house. He walked to Miss Bobby's house in Pulton County. >> Okay. Um, out of curiosity, is that your phone? >> This is this your mom's? >> Yeah. >> Are you okay going and staying at your grandma's house tonight? >> Yeah. >> You don't disrespect your grandma? >> No. Me and that's who usually when stuff like this. >> How often does stuff like this with your mom handle? >> Like just some days it's like off and >> so no [ __ ] is sometimes it your fault. Police confirmed text messages in which the mother admitted hitting the child with a bottle contradicting her earlier statement. >> It's her fault. >> We'll figure it out. But I think you're probably going to go home near grandma's tonight. This is yours. >> Mom actually told me she would prefer him go home to grandma's tonight. >> Yeah, she's probably going to go to jail, too. >> She admitted to she looking. She just lied to us with whatever you want to do. So these facts already been cut. So we have >> take him first. You don't What's up? >> I know how my daughter is. My daughter's bipolar. She'll take medicine. So when I tell you she cut up, she cuts up. >> Well, she was ready to go earlier. She had put her hands in front of her and everything. But >> I'm a little bipolar, too. So that's fine. >> Well, everybody is >> these days. Yeah. Everybody's got their moments touch. I hope she don't too much cuz >> I might flare up, too. >> Okay. Well, that's good. >> All right, Mom. Grandma. So Mai's in there. I don't know if they're going to let him stay in school or >> She said he would start tomorrow. I don't know. >> Yeah, you remember they were enrolling him. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So what should I do? Just go tell her, "Hey, I'm about to take him to the ER cuz they said he's ditching." >> Yeah. We're going to go ahead and get her detained. >> Can you do it outside? You're not going to do it in here. >> Can I do it in here? >> I mean, why you want to do that? >> I can't. >> I'd rather be in a confined space than Can you email me those texts? I need your ID. Officers informed the teen that his mother will be arrested due to false statements and the extent of the injury. >> All right, so this is what's going to end up happening. Your mom's going to go to jail for battery. She lied to us and said she just hit you with her hand, but then she texted grandma that she hit you with the bottle. So, she is going to go to jail for battery. You're technically not enrolled here yet, right? Tomorrow's supposed to be her first day. So, your grandma's going to take you to go get looked at and probably get a couple stitches and then you're going to go home with her. Be nice to your grandma tonight. All right? cuz she's going through a lot of right now too >> as well. You being charged charged with battery. You're being charged with two counts of cruelty to children and one false rep. >> How am I false rep? >> Because you told me you didn't hit your son. >> But I didn't hit him with a can. >> Yeah, I got text. >> Watch your arm, >> sir. That text message was sent wrong. I didn't hit him with a can. He got hit with something because that is a good size laceration that needs stitches. >> Look at my forehead. I have Look at this gash. We were fighting in the back of the car and I headbutted him. What am I supposed to do? >> I honestly don't know. >> How am I being arrested in this child? Like I have so many cases against him with the disrespect and the fighting and the smoking and the everything. life >> with the extent of the injury and it requiring stitches. It clearly went past a level of just chastising the child, which is why you're going to jail. >> Sorry, look at my forehead. Look at this knot on my forehead. >> I understand that's because you were headbutting him and hitting him. You weren't just slapping him once to say, "Don't talk to me like that." This obviously was more >> because he's continuously been you. I hate you. All this his brother, my baby son was in the back seat. I stopped my car. He got out of my car. I'm not going to deal with the disrespect. I'm tired of it. I'm sick of it. I work too hard. >> Look at my car. Look at the car. He tore up MY DAMN CAR. Beating up my car with a bad I went down downtown and got a petition with mothers against gang violence on this. The mother was arrested and charged with battery, two counts of cruelty to children, and false reporting after evidence showed the child's injuries required medical treatment and contradicted her initial statement. The child was released into the care of his grandmother, while child protective services continued its investigation. Remember, physical discipline that causes injury can quickly escalate into criminal charges. Conflicting statements and visible evidence often determine how police classify domestic incidents. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. There's a difference between discipline and causing a child to need stitches. Both sides sound overwhelmed, but the injury crossed the line. Glad the school stepped in before this got worse. Everyone thought it was too late until the body cam shows the exact second officer step in. Did you predict that rescue? The next incident is when drunk mom gets arrested after crashing into mailboxes. my leg. >> You have to go central. >> I'm going lay right here. >> He at the house. >> Okay. Yes, ma'am. >> I will, ma'am. >> All right. >> Come on. >> Well, how much further down you live? >> Just a block over. >> Okay. I'LL FOLLOW YOU. >> I'll follow you. I don't have any I don't have a car seat. I'll follow you. >> All right. >> You doing it? >> Yeah. >> As long as I got your help. >> Yep. During questioning, the woman admits to consuming alcohol earlier in the night, including multiple Jamaican happy hour drinks. >> Okay. So, you said you have you have four what are they called? Jamaican Jamaican habies. >> Yeah, they're cooler things. >> What are those things? >> They're like coolers. Jamaican you happy coolers. They're like a four. >> Uhhuh. >> They're like coolers. Coolers. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. But what's in it? >> It say like three or two some certain. >> My question is is I just want to make sure that you okay to drive. What time did you have those? >> I had them about what time was it now? I had them about 5. >> 5 in the morning. >> No, 5. >> It's 11:30 right now. >> I had them about 5 in the morning. Then like the next morning I drunk about 11. >> I drunk about 11. I drunk like two. >> When asked to rate her sobriety, she estimates herself at a 3 out of 10, acknowledging she was not fully sober while driving. >> Do you feel like you're okay to drive this vehicle? I mean, no, it was just my power steering. It messed up. >> I turned the corner. Like, sir, this van was running right now. You drive it. It's a struggle. >> Okay. >> So, the power still in my stuff like I I got the new piece on it. You can look at it. But >> I guess >> my question to you is, do you think were you do you think you were sober enough to drive this? >> That's how I felt. I think I was sober. How long ago? >> I had two of them by 11. >> So, it's about half hour ago. >> Yeah, I had two of them. >> Okay. >> And then I drink them like through the middle of the night. >> Okay. All right. Well, would you like to go through some field sobriety testing to see if you were okay to be driving this vehicle at the at the time that you were? >> Why would I have to? >> I'm requesting that you do. >> Do I have to? >> No, but all you'd have to do is if it's three tests and then if you want to take them, you can to prove that you were sober while you were driving this vehicle. >> So, >> because based off your license, right? >> Why? No, I never in my life had my license. >> Is your license though? >> Yeah. Why? >> What's that? >> My license. >> Police explain they still suspect impaired driving based on admissions behavior and the circumstances of the crash. >> No, no, no. I was asking her question. >> I've never been accident. >> I understand her. So you so you >> can see. >> So Latoya, what I'm asking is this cuz you're on body cam. I'm asking you don't want to you don't want to do any field sobriety testing here. >> So what that mean arrested? >> No. >> No, I don't want to. >> Okay. All right. Well, we suspect that you're you were driving. >> Well, I'll take it. I'll take it. >> Why? No, I was saying I will, but >> I will take it. Why? I do. >> I have to do that. Do >> I let her do it or no? >> Ma'am, I'll do it. >> It's looking while driving this vehicle. Okay. You say that you drank four alcohol beverages. >> Okay. You said that you ordered three while driving this vehicle. >> Yes, I struck multiple metal boxes. Yes. >> My biggest my biggest issue >> and my biggest issue with this is that you ran like >> that's my biggest issue with >> officers coordinate custody arrangements for the children and conduct a safety pat down before placing her under arrest. >> It's not safe at 11:22. Well, I'll tell you what, I asked you. Listen, you said that you didn't want to do it. >> I've done it. A few times. Okay. Now, I don't want it to be under the impression that because you didn't. >> So, I take her now. Put your hands behind your back. Would I be able to get out? >> Yeah. Yeah. We'll talk about it. We'll we'll give you We'll give you your options. I hope you're not. >> I am. >> The driver was charged with DUI and child endangerment after admitting to alcohol consumption, refusing sobriety tests, and leaving the crash scene with minors. She was later released on bond and her driver's license was suspended pending court proceedings. Remember, driving after drinking, even if you feel mostly okay, can still lead to serious legal consequences. Leaving the scene of an accident with children involved significantly escalates the severity of charges. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. Five kids in the car makes this so much worse. Refusing sobriety tests doesn't mean you won't be arrested. Glad the officers made the kid safety the priority. You think this call can't get worse? The body cam captures the exact second officer's rushing comment if you felt that spike. >> We have in total we have eight kids. I guess yesterday we must have been tired. >> She's peed through the seat so you can document. So you can see how what what >> on June 30th, 2024, police are dispatched after reports of a toddler abandoned inside a vehicle overnight. Officers learned the family has eight children total and one child was forgotten in the car after everyone else was taken inside. >> Knock on this the house and see. Good morning. Do you know whose vehicle this is parked outside your house? >> N. Is there any other families that stay here? >> No. Okay. >> Or maybe >> All right. We're trying to There's a little girl in that vehicle. We're trying to figure out who >> she belongs to. So, no idea. >> All right. Thank you. >> I can go over there. He's just whole family's anti police. >> What? >> Family is anti police. >> Oh, well, they're >> 100%. >> Police canvas nearby homes trying to identify the vehicle's owner. Neighbors report the family is known in the area and that DCFS has been involved before raising immediate child welfare concerns. >> Taking this child today, >> sorry, but DCFS >> has been involved. >> She's probably been out here for a while. >> They're what? >> Could you imagine if they somebody didn't see this? This car is going to heat up. >> Are you okay? >> You want to stick her? >> Yeah. >> Bet you all the windows are up, too. >> They're all up. >> And who knows how the kids been out there? >> Yeah. That's why I want to ask >> for myself. >> I'm sorry. My cell phone's in Ohio. >> I want to see how long they've been here. >> I'm sure there's a green camera somewhere around >> there's a green camera. >> Officers contact the child's grandmother who confirms the parents live nearby and were at Six Flags the previous day. She cannot provide a clear address, increasing concern about supervision and stability. >> Across the street. Yes. >> Hi. Are >> you okay? Don't go with it. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay. See, >> who's in? >> Uh, mother >> out of Wisconsin. >> So, they live in that area over there. >> Okay. Do we know where? >> She said North Msina. >> What's up? >> She said around North Msina. She doesn't have the address, but she said last she knew of them was they were at six yesterday. So, it's in the area. You good here? I'm going to head back to Shepherd in case they come outside. >> Yeah. No, go ahead. >> Yeah. >> I'm Are you We're going to take the kids to the station. >> Yeah. I'm going to Well, it's Shepherd's call. I try to jump all I mean, I get really pissed off. >> Well, 100%. Especially cuz I know them and they don't care about the kids too much. >> Officers review surveillance footage and confirm the child was left in the car from around midnight until morning. The toddler shows clear signs of prolonged distress, dehydration, and neglect. >> It's not at the house. She lives in this area, though. Uh her mother was there and said she lives in at near north of Msina unknown where Cardian is trying to figure it out. So I came back here in case they come outside. >> What about dad? >> They both of them live here. >> Okay. >> They live I suppose they both of them live here. They're at Six Flags yesterday. That's the last that that >> So I assume that Joshua which is the brother out wandering around cuz the DCFS records show her 2019 and her brother a little bit older 2017. >> The address way up there. >> Well, we already checked. So the address that all that I found uh DCFS paperwork in there comes to mom's or grandmother's house up here. She says that her daughter lives somewhere in this area north of Msina, but she's not entirely certain where. >> I already checked this house. She has no idea who >> I'm guessing it's this apartment complex. >> Yeah. >> And what's her name supposed to be? Does it speak? >> If she does, I think it's Spanish only. >> She's five apartment one. When you're ready to make contact, >> yeah, >> we have everything we need. this truck uh light here. >> Mhm. We're about to make We're about to go make contact with it now. >> Hey, ask her when that if she saw when they got parked. You know how long how long the truck was here? >> No. >> Did you call? >> No, it's my husband. There's a man live here. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Police. >> Police. >> Sounded like something from inside. I don't know if it was the upper level or the lower. >> They've got They got He found mail >> with her name. >> No, I know. I'm just looking. I'm looking. >> After repeated knocking, the child's father, Sylvester Flores, comes outside. He admits the family arrived home around 11:20 p.m. and claims neither parent noticed the child was still in the vehicle. put the camera and see how long she's been out here cuz grandma's like last I knew we were at six flags yesterday after dinner last night. >> Jesus Christ. >> So and knowing then um is grandma gonna come for her. I told her she she's good to come. However, depends on what they want to do. If they want to take customs, >> the mom will the grand will come. >> Okay. >> So she's >> the child's fully buckled in. >> Yes. >> So no way she could have got out of it, right? Hey, come outside. >> What What's your name? >> Sylvester. >> Sylvester, what? How long you been here? >> How long I've been living here? >> No. How What time What time did you get your home left? >> Both parents explain they were exhausted after transporting all eight children and mistakenly assumed everyone was inside. Officers challenged their account, emphasizing that the child was fully buckled and could not escape. >> I I got home last night. I'd say like around 11 >> 11 o'clock at night. And you haven't left this house since then, right? >> At all. >> When's the last time you drove your Yukon? >> It's not a Yukon >> or whatever it is. Your SUV. Your black Tahoe. >> She >> When's the last time you drove the the Tahoe? >> Your mom has come here. Oh, >> I want to know what they're saying. >> No, but it's uh it's it's uh Spanish on the phone. I want to know what's going on. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Mom's coming. >> Tipped him off. I was trying to figure out, but he said he got here at 11:00 last night. >> What's your daughter's name? You want to question her some more? >> Yeah. I mean, I just want to know who's driving >> before we do before we do the Wisconsin thing. Question >> because it's going to depend on who's driving cuz it might be both going or it might be just >> both. You guys just probably exhausted from yesterday, right? Six Flags. You guys were six. Probably exhausted. >> Yeah. you guys want her and she's probably asleep till you guys practice. >> So, can we just kind of ask like you know if they remember like what anything about this or have they used the vehicle since this morning? 11:00 last night was the last time they used the vehicle last night, right? >> Yeah. Well, like you went to the gym. >> He was driving. >> No point lying, bro. We got we got everything. Huh? >> We got kids. >> At this point, it's just your honesty is what's going to help. >> Honesty is going to go a long way with everything >> and how this goes. >> Just when you guys got home last night, I just forgot she was sleeping. I'm assuming you guys have You have four kids, right? >> We have eight. We have in total. >> The mother, Nile Menddees, admits prior DCFS involvement, but insists this has never happened before. Officers document the child's condition. Soaked diaper wet seat mucus from crying and extreme distress. >> We have eight kids. and everybody like we had just had we got home like around almost 12:00 from Six Flags. We still passed by and got some food. >> We got everybody off, but I mean everybody just started getting I got off first and I got some of the kids off and he got off and he got some of the kids off. So usually we like we work as a team but I mean I guess yesterday we must have been super tired but >> Okay. You know, at this point is what is the best thing is that she's good, right? >> No. >> The other eight kids in that apartment. I kind of think we should just take her and screen her. We're going to take both >> cuz if we take both, we got to >> You're right. We got to take care of the She's 99. She's coming with us. We'll screen it. >> Yeah. >> And we'll see what the bosses want to do because we can always come back and hook him up, right? >> But that way Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hi. Uh were you told to come down here? >> That's uh >> Okay. Uh >> grandma >> like almost around 12 >> at night. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So around midnight and then you guys just got kids out of the car one at a time. >> Yeah. >> And just and left one. >> Yeah. >> So you said you had eight kids. All eight fit in that car or no? >> They didn't. >> Okay. But that's how they were transported. They all came, you guys got here and just ended up leaving one in the car. Correct. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> We have pictures and videos of all night um being there. And um also like when we stopped by to get some tacos, I also recorded that like you know like at the time that you know we did stop at. >> Okay. This isn't pertinent, but I'm just asking. Were you guys drinking at all? I'm just trying I'm just trying to figure out how you guys would have left the >> No, no, no. We were not drinking. >> We do drink, but yesterday we were not drinking at all. >> We just dedicated our whole day to the kids from the morning to the like to the night time. >> We have people that were with us too at the flags. >> Okay. All right. Then what I'm going to have you do is I'm going to have you step out real quick just to confirm that this is in fact your daughter. I'm going to turn custody over to him. >> So you're good to come over here just to want to make sure that this is in fact your child. Okay. Well, we're going to leave the child where she is right now. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> She's okay. >> She's okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Do me a favor. Let's put back on the grass, please. >> Okay. Just stand right here for right now. >> Police consult supervisors and DCFS. Due to the seriousness of the neglect, officers decide both parents must be taken into custody while the grandmother temporarily takes responsibility for the children. >> Yeah, I'm already trying to figure out what's going on first. What what >> what our next step is. Okay. Have you ever had any DCFS involvement before? >> I did. >> What did that entail? >> I'm sorry. >> What happened with that? >> They could close. >> The case was closed. Okay. >> I did what I had to. Um, and they they closed it. So, you know, we've been doing good lately. Like, I never thought this has never happened to me. Like, never have I ever forgotten one of my kids in the car. >> We're We're going to work through this. >> I'm going to talk to him. >> The officers consult to come to an agreement on how to proceed. >> All right. So, she's 99 Wisconsin. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, they got like nine kids, though. >> She actually died at home. Yeah. So, the idea is we're going to hook her screen it just for her and then if the sister wants to do him too, we can. They were together last night, but because of the eight kids situation, I'll just >> Yes. >> Uh, who was taking custody of the kids? >> Dad. >> Grandma's here. She >> Okay. >> That's why we try to figure out how to go. >> I would take both of them down >> and screen it. give the kids to grandma if she's capable of taking them both and then s can decide who to take. So we don't want to go get it and get a warrant from later because they're both in the car. They're both responsible for the kids. So bring them both down. Just tell Listen, they may not charge you. They might do whatever, but we have to bring them both down for investigation. That's it. Okay. >> All right. Can you just try to get all the kids info before we go forward? >> Make sure the grandma Let's make sure we get her information too like what house she lives at and all this stuff. >> Both parents are arrested for child endangerment. Officers stress that arrest does not guarantee conviction, but the circumstances require formal investigation. >> Got a grand got her parents eight kids. >> So, like I said, while he's gone, cuz I'm pretty sure we popped off while chasing all the information we can. >> Oh, she's 28. So, she ties my record. This one girl had eight kids at the Oaks at 28. Seven different dads, though. >> You want to get Does grandma know all the kids? >> She just stopped there. You never know. >> Okay. So, we could probably just hook him and then grandma. >> All right. So, we're going to owe one both of them. >> Okay. >> And grandma's going to take custody. >> He's going to take him first. >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Uh let's actually get two people. We get two more. >> They're going to take both of them to the station. >> Okay. >> We're 11:01 and both. >> Okay. >> Me, you will take the dude. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Right. All right. Currently under arrest. Okay. >> Just relax. give up. >> Wait, why arrest? >> Why? What did I do? >> What did I do? >> Reason for their arrest. So, y >> Hey, make sure to get him get him some shoes and stuff. Okay. Shoes and a shirt. >> Okay. So you you know you're being at risk for uh child neglect right now. Doesn't mean you're gonna be charged with it. >> But state's attorney will let us know. Okay. >> It happens. But you know, unfortunately, it is what it is. Okay. Come on. >> Appreciate your cooperations, >> man. >> I'm going to get you shoes and a shirt. Okay. >> All right. Andy, you can let them know you're 111 with a female. And to confirm, do you have anything hidden on you at all? Okay. All right. We're going to be bringing both parents down >> and all eight children over to the grandmother. >> Document that she's fully buckled in. >> Paramedics evaluate the toddler to ensure she is medically stable. All eight children are released to the grandmother as DCFS begins a full investigation into the family. >> Fully buckled in, snot on her face from crying all night. >> Yep. I got I got a video. >> Dude, that is awful, bro. I get this. >> This bothers me a lot. >> Mhm. Literally, you do your body cam video. I took my body cam, put it in there. >> She's fully buckled in. She has snot on her face and you know, you can tell she's been crying for a while. >> Um, so just document that. >> What's that? >> Her diaper's completely soiled. She's saw she's pee through the seat. >> Yep. >> How do you give kids back to these type of people, dude? >> Oh, man. There was a case before that DCFS gave all eight kids back to this one lady. >> DCF at one time. >> She's literally in a >> Yeah, I'll take I'll take it. >> You have a shirt for him. >> Okayongr. >> This is for her. >> That's her. >> Yeah. This >> Who's the main on this? >> Uh Shephard. >> Hey, chef. So, her underwear is I told you know her underwear is completely soiled. She's peed through the seat so you can document. So you can see how what what stage she's in. >> All wet seats all >> buckled in. It's not >> on my body. Okay. >> Yeah. >> He's supposed to take all the kids away. Every one of them. >> Dude, how do you notice your four-year-old? Your baby. You should notice your baby >> and and you know, you got to put her to bed. >> Like you know, at some point in the night you're like, "What? I'm forgetting to do something." >> I'm guessing they were not in the right state of mind. >> Yeah. Maybe maybe they were a little 56 >> and a halfish maybe. >> Thank God. I don't know how somebody saw. >> That's what I was thinking. I like >> you had to be >> trying to break into the car >> cuz the windows are tinted, bro. You ain't seen anything. >> I woke up when I walked up. I could barely see her. >> I don't even know how new this is. She probably like trying to get out like smear the window, say help, you know. >> Yeah. >> But she's doesn't even talk before. >> Mhm. >> Complete neglect of this child. >> The two parent. >> Yeah. >> Okay. They they just didn't give us much information. They just said to meet with you guys and just you guys were not here. So we >> She was just >> I gave him the details that she was left in the car overnight. That's all you guys did. >> Yeah. So they just want us at least make sure she's good to go. >> Okay. Our parents >> parents are with us. She's a sister. Grandma should be inside, right? >> Yep. >> Okay. Um both parents went with you guys. >> Yes. >> Okay. Are you taking custody? >> Grandma's taking custody right now. >> Grandma is? >> Yeah. She's in the restroom. >> Did she want her transported to the hospital? Well, if she's fine, then no. Um, I would say more so. Our concern is that she's she seems okay. I tried to give her some water right now cuz I assume she might be dehydrated, but she doesn't want to. >> But that's just cuz she's picky. >> Yeah. Is she acting normal for herself? >> Yeah, she is. >> She seems normal for herself. All right. Well, we can check her on the ambulance. All right. Thanks, man. >> If you want me to if you guys I'll stick around. If you guys want me to ask, I can have them ask her parents if they want her to go check. >> Okay. Yeah. I'm not sure. What are they under arrest or both of them? >> Yes. >> Okay. Maybe we'll talk to grandma and see what grandma wants. But yeah, we could we could check her out in the ambulance and just take your vitals and stuff. >> If you're if you're sticking around here, I'll get a witness signature from you, too, if they don't want to go. That's all right. Thank you so much. about it. >> Both parents were taken into custody and charged with class A misdemeanor child endangerment. All eight children were temporarily placed with their grandmother while DCFS conducts a full investigation. Remember, even a single lapse in awareness can place a child in serious danger, especially when routine turns into exhaustion. Caregivers are responsible for verifying every child's safety, no matter how hectic or tiring the situation feels. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. I can't understand how you forget a child overnight. This is heartbreaking and completely unacceptable. This could have ended so much worse. Thank goodness someone noticed and called for help. Kids depend on adults for everything. There's no excuse for this level of negligence. You think the officers were out of options here? Watch what happens next on the body cam. and tell us if you would have done the same. >> She walked him down here and walked away.
