was not allowed to drink when she has him. >> You're not able to control your actions, so I'm going to control them. >> Showed up. They immediately started cleaning the kitchen. >> He's freaking out. >> It's the bathroom. >> Officers responded to what initially appeared to be a routine call involving children. What police were witnessing wasn't a single bad moment, but a pattern of extremely harmful parenting that had been affecting these children for far too long. Not an expert either. I know what it looks like. I know what it smells like. But then >> this is when when hero cops sense the presence of extremely harmful parenting. Here is law zone where features real police body cam footage documenting how officers handle tense and unpredictable situations as they happen >> for you. Okay. >> But I'm the one that raised him. I would never hurt my child. >> There's video of it. >> What you might have seen is untrue. We don't grab the child by the arm. >> On November 11th, 2024, officers intervened during a custody exchange at a sheriff's office after a dispute escalated with verbal disagreement and physical proximity between two adults involving a minor. >> Go ahead. Take your time. >> She needs to be checked for alcohol. Court ordered that she is not allowed to drink when she has not in the truck. >> I told her >> I didn't do anything. >> Let's make sure you're okay. Are you all okay? >> Yeah. Yeah, they're okay. >> All right. You own the truck with me drinking. >> Your actions are putting that child in. It sure does. If you're operating a motor vehicle 78 65 >> I wasn't drinking. >> I wasn't drinking. >> You cannot control yourself. You stand right here now. You stay. >> An officer describes observing physical pulling during the exchange and explains why that conduct is considered unsafe in the presence of a minor. right there and you're going to walk off again. >> Why are you yelling at me? >> Because you're you're not able to control your actions. So, I'm going to control them for you. Okay. >> But that's cuz I wanted my son. >> That is not how we do things in America. You don't grab him, drag him, cause him to almost fall off this curb with that child in his hands. That is in danger. >> Officers confirm identity and vehicle information and decide to take one adult into custody. to that child. >> That's my baby. >> Listen, I got a child, too. But I'm not going to grab the mother and drag her around. >> Joanna, last name. Is this your car? >> Yeah. >> Is registered to you? >> Yeah. >> You want me to walk her in? >> Huh? >> You want me to walk her in? >> Yeah. >> All right, let's go. You go ahead and take it. >> Why are you going to walk me in? >> You're going to jail. >> You're going to jail for what? >> For for what you did. Put that child in danger like that. That's child. >> Put your Put your foot on. >> Putting my child in danger. Put your shoe on. >> I can't. >> Yeah, you're getting charged for domestic battery and child abuse. >> Yeah. Wait, what are you talking about? That's my child. >> Okay. >> That's my child. >> Let's go. >> What are you doing? >> Let me go get you a victim's right pamphlet and uh case number. >> What are you doing? >> You're going to jail >> for what? >> For exactly what he just told you. Battery and and child abuse. >> Battery and child. How was that even possible when I was trying to get my baby when it was my turn to get him? >> If you don't walk, you're gonna get drugged. So, I'm just letting you know. >> Get what? Drug. I don't do >> Watch your step. Can you have one of them come out and grab her? >> Grab me for what? >> My child. >> Don't move. >> Officers speak with the other parent who reports smelling alcohol and references court-ordered exchange rules. >> You don't have anything on you. phone, keys, money. >> I have nothing but love for >> any kind of weapon on you or anything. >> I came to pick my son up. >> Okay. I'm just asking you cuz if you bring anything inside here, it's a charge. >> Well, that's great. Well, I came here to pick my son up. What I did? >> I'll be in a second. Okay. She my wife said she could smell alcohol on her >> and when I got close enough when she was trying to take some sun I can smell it. Our court paperwork says that neither of us are supposed to drink or do >> and if she test it that would be awesome because >> depending on whatever the court paperwork says is how they'll do it. >> The other parent explains the exchange timeline and states that the scheduled transfer time had not yet occurred. >> You can't you know what I mean? No. So >> I just it's we just started a our 50/50 where she gets them for a week, we get them for a week. This was a two-day we get them back on Wednesday. Our whole thing was to keep them safe, >> right? >> And as it should be. >> How this whole thing started was I was giving him a hug by before I gave him to her and he was holding on to me, holding on me. So I was hugging him. She like, "All right, give me my son." I said, "Hold on." I said, "I'm still hugging." "No, you're done. Your time's up. Come on." I said, "Oh, got till 6:00. That's when the you know I can hold the sick if I want to. So that's when the time to switch, >> right? >> And then that's when she just I told her I said go back over to your car. I said bring him over there. And she just kept going going about it and and then she come over there and started grabbing a hold of my arm, pulling on me, trying to get him. >> As soon as you started doing that, we >> Yeah. No, I I appreciated that. I'm not gonna came out here, too. So >> yeah, that's why. >> Did he get your phone number? >> No, sir. I'm going to need your phone number. That's why I put this spot as our drop off because I can't trust her. >> I tell people that she she she lies to her teeth. She can't tell the truth and her life depended on it. So, what's your question now? What do I need to do? Um I've I've not been in this until just recently. She's kept them. Wouldn't hardly ever let me have them for the first part of his life. And so, we finally ended up getting them because she was all crazy and everything, you know, acne and everything. And we ended up taking her to the hospital. We kept them. We have had them for the past 6 months until it was court ordered that you know what the visitation stuff was. Do I need to notify the court or do anything with this whole situation before date? No, >> the court's going to be aware cuz we got to send that. >> All right. So, we don't we don't give him to her until after >> you got to get >> officers explain the required reporting to child welfare authorities due to the incident occurring in the minor's presence. >> Whatever it says on paper, please. >> Okay. I I'll look. >> If it's 50/50, it's 50/50. Right. >> Right. >> Right. It It's But depending on what he's going to say right here is how we'll go about doing it >> because he going to tell you exactly what you should do. >> Right. >> Do y'all constantly have problems like this on top of change or what? >> No, we've been doing it. >> We just started the first actual 50/50 where she had them for 5 days. >> Court ordered or y'all just >> ordered. Okay. Um she we had where she had them for a couple days here and there just to get broke into it and then this is the first time when we got him back the last time she kept trying to call and check on him because it and what I don't know is it looked like he had a little bit of a black eye up around here in his nose and under here. I took a picture of it but it was hard to make it out. >> Um and for 2 days she tried to call and check up on him seeing if he was all right. He was basically dehydrated when we got him to the house cuz he got in the truck and he said I'm thirsty. So we we just live in little farms. >> So we went home. He got stuff to drink and he was exhausted. He fell asleep by 6:40 that night and woke up for a few minutes few hours later and then slept for the rest of the time for another 12. He slept for 12 hours total. >> So Jones is my deputy here, but I'm going to go ahead and do the case. Um >> so is this the only child you have of her? >> Yes, sir. >> Are they your child? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Where were you at? >> I She was in >> I noticed it was getting violent. I ran over there to the visit the emergency phone. >> You was here the whole time that she was arguing and fighting that was happening. Okay. >> And so I ran up to go get someone on the phone cuz I I could smell alcohol and I knew it was going to get bad. >> Yeah. We were sitting there listening to it but we're like it's just arguing for the time being. But then when it become physical when we come on over here hitting on you and grabbing you >> um it's domestic battery. whether you're married or not, you have a child in common. It'll forever ever be domestic. Um, so what's going to happen is I'm gonna have to send a copy to DCF and they will be included too because the violence was taking place in front of them and in their presence. Not that anything's going to come of it or bad of it. Uh, likely what'll happen, maybe a DCF worker will come just talk to them, make sure everything's okay. Um, I don't see any major marks on that one. Um, but not that you're going to be under investigation by DCF or anything. It's just something we have to do when violence occurs in front of the children. On top of that, there'll be a uh there'll be a uh court order against her. >> Officers advise the arrested adult of her rights and ask for her account of the exchange. >> Talk to her. Come on down here with me real quick. Go ahead. Have >> a seat right here. >> Right out of my arms. Right out of my arms for no reason at all. >> I'm corporate. I'm the one out there was dealing with that. So, what I'm going to do is since you're in custody, you're inside the jail, I'm going to read you what's called Miranda. Okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say could be held against you in court. You understand your rights? >> Yes, sir. >> What was that whole deal about out there? >> I went to go pick my son up. He said that he was not going to give them to me, that he did not have to give them to me until it was the time exactly that I needed to go back to my car. And then he struck him out of my hands and then I went to go grab him. You think that's the best interest of that child to pull along it that way? >> I think that it was my time and that we were going to do that and then he thought that maybe No, I don't think that was possible. >> What happened if What happened? What happened if that daddy fell, >> hit that child's head on the side of that car? What? >> And that would hurt my baby. >> Oh, sure it would have. But it would have been all all been caused by your actions. It would be caused by my actions that it was my time to come pick my child up and he took him out of my hands. >> What time What time is the child exchange? >> Um, exactly at Give me a second. Jeez. Um, 6:00, >> right? Do you remember what time it was? >> It was like 6 or 5:50. >> Okay. So, it's fair to say it was not 6:00 yet. >> No, it was not 6:00 yet, but he had came early. We always come early. We always come early. >> But he said the boy was giving him loves, telling him goodbye. >> The adult disputes the officer's observations and states she believed it was her scheduled time. >> Was not giving him love. >> I seen the child was wrapped around his neck. I was sitting right there the whole time watching. >> He was going to be wrapped around my neck. >> I understand. But but at that time when y'all was in the midst of your arguing immediately, >> I get it. He was wrapped around his neck. But what about when he was going to be wrapped around my neck? But it wasn't time for it to take place. >> Okay. It wasn't time. I get it. But I'm the one that raised him all the way until 5 6 months old by myself when he kicked us out because he couldn't handle it. >> Does that make him any less of a father? >> You darn right it does. Now he's got a wife and he wants to be of God. You darn right it does. >> But does that make it right? >> They made it right for you to do what you did >> to grab my son and say, "Come on, >> remove him." You had his arm stretched out pulling on that child. >> First of all, negative. I would never hurt my child. >> There's video of it. >> I don't hurt my child. I would not hurt. >> Maybe not intentionally, but inadvertently you would. >> I would not hurt my child. >> Not intentionally. Probably. >> Not intentionally, nor never. That's my child that I raised since birth. >> But your actions that you did. My actions did nothing but try to get my child in my custody away from somebody that was being vindictive. >> Okay. Uh, how you had a drink tonight? >> I haven't had anything to drink tonight. Now, would you stop with that? Can I please ask you a question? >> Yes, you ask me. >> I need you to just give me my child back and quit. >> No, your child went with him. >> Yeah, I know. But why? It was my turn. >> Cuz you're under arrest. >> And why? Officers explain why they viewed her actions as unsafe and involving unwanted physical contact. >> Why is that? >> For battery on him. The male >> battery. I didn't touch him. >> And then the child, you're getting charged for you pulled on your child's arms >> to get him out of his hands cuz he was being crazy. >> And when the father stumbled off the curb because of you pulling so vigorously, >> I couldn't even feel anything on the curb. It was the curb. >> I know. I watched. >> That's not fair. How can I do anything on a curb? >> I don't know. You was dragging him toward your car. >> Dragging him towards my car. I couldn't even do anything on a curb. >> There is a curb off the sidewalk. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. There's no way I could do anything on a curb. >> It caused the father holding the child >> to stop like this because >> obviously I can't do anything on a curb. >> I don't know what you're talking about doing anything on. I'm saying there's no way I can grab a child or grab a father on a curve. It's a curve. There's no way possible. It's a curve. >> Did you not understand? >> If you try to grab anyone on the curve, you're going to fall right or left. >> Right. So when you >> Why would you do that? >> I don't know why you did that. >> Because I was trying to hold myself up. I was trying to hold myself upright. >> Okay. Is it because of the intoxication? [clears throat] >> There is no intoxication. And I was trying to hold myself upright >> for what? >> To get my baby in my custody. >> But you can't pull on your child like that. >> Honey, >> I went to bring him to me, >> sweetheart. I went to bring my child to me. >> I understand what you're saying. >> No, you're not. >> But what I've seen, that's not a norm. >> Okay. What you might have seen is untrue because I'm trying to tell you exactly what happened. And I can tell you >> the adult continues to deny wrongdoing while acknowledging the exchange time had not yet arrived. >> Piece by piece, brief by brief, minute by minute, second by second, exactly everything that happened with my child. >> How long do you think I was standing there listening to all that go on >> the whole time? >> Sure I was. And I was fine with the arguing. That's fine. You can argue all you want. >> Okay. Well, what did I do except try to grab my baby and then I couldn't because of the curb. >> I know. >> It was the curb. No, there was >> grabbing on the baby's father. You're >> there was nothing because of the curb. I went to grab my baby and the curb went like that and >> but you started. So, where you parked? This was your car. This is his to me. I I've seen it all. >> There's no way. >> All right. So, you're over here yelling and screaming to begin with. >> There is no way. And then you go after him on the other side of his truck. >> You start Yes. You start grabbing on the father. That's when we started walking over there. >> To give me my baby and he was giving him to me because it was that time. And he said that. >> He said, "Okay." >> No. He said he was waiting because his son was hugging him, grasping him tightly. >> Oh, don't try that. And it was not. It was not. >> Don't try the monkey jazz. Don't try the monkey jazz. >> It was not 6:00 yet. >> Don't try the monkey jazz. Don't try the monkey jazz. >> I'm not here to jazz you at all. >> There is no monkey jazz on me. I said, "Give me my baby. It's time." And he said, "It ain't time for him." I said, "Well, give me my baby." And then he went like this and then pulled him back and I said, "Give him my baby." And that was what happened. >> Okay. >> There is no child abuse. There's no nothing. It is what it is. There was a curve right there which made it very, very, very hard to be able to maneuver either one of us to where it looked like it was even any way, shape, or form where it would be because we'd be at some type of angle each one of us. >> Mhm. >> Where we could be like going like this at the time. Yeah. It wasn't my time yet. You're right. >> Officers confirm the charges, explain custody procedures, and complete the arrest process. this to me. He went like this to me and I went to go grab him. >> Yeah. Your car was towed by um Total Road Tide. >> Okay, that's great. Why'd you do that? >> Because I I can't have it parked out there. And you're under arrest to be >> Why am I under arrest? Because my child >> I'm under arrest for battery against the father. And >> battery? >> Yes. By pulling on both of them. And it batteries any un any any any unwanted touch. Okay, you understand? >> Any unwanted touch. >> If you reached in to grab that child and you touched him, that's battery. >> Are you insane? >> No, ma'am. By >> I went to get my baby cuz it was time for me to take my baby. >> You don't physically remove things. >> Are you insane right now? >> No, ma'am. >> You're trying to tell me because I went to take my baby when it was time for me to take my baby. You're You're >> Yes. You're arresting me? >> Yes. Um >> Wow. >> Yes. Um so it's battery on him. >> Wow. >> And that's domestic. And there's going to be it's either going to be child endangerment or or child of not what >> for the child. >> For my baby? >> Yes. >> You're going to do what with my baby? >> Replacing the child in the endangered situation he was in. >> What are you talking about? >> By pulling on him the way you pulled on him. pulling on my child to get him towards me >> while it was time. >> We don't do that. You'll get a bond tomorrow morning when you see the judge. >> What the what? >> Yeah, it's domestic. I can't set a bond for you. >> Oh my goodness. >> Yeah. So, um, what's your address? >> I don't know. >> You don't know where you live? >> No. >> Okay. Is the address on your license where you live? >> It doesn't matter. >> And your numbers? >> Matters. I ain't doing nothing. You guys want to do this crap to me? I ain't doing that. It's not me doing it. >> I'm sorry. I can't help you. You can't help me. I ain't helping you. >> I ain't trying to be that way. >> Boy, I ain't trying to be that way. >> Well, I'm doing you as courtesy to come over here. >> I'm telling you, I ain't going to do nothing if you can't do nothing. >> Wow. >> It is what it is. >> I have to do >> I love you, but you guess what? >> What you did was you took my baby away from me. >> No, ma'am. >> Yes, sir. >> I protect that child. >> You did not protect my child. You took my child away from me. >> I also believe you to be under the influence. So, I mean, that's not a great thing. >> Wow. >> Officers charged the woman with domestic battery based on observed unwanted physical contact with the other parent during the exchange. She was also charged with child neglect or endangerment because officers stated her actions created a safety risk to the minor present at the scene. Remember, following court-ordered custody exchange times helps reduce conflict and misunderstandings. Officer decisions are based on real-time observations [music] when safety concerns are present. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. These exchanges look very stressful for everyone involved. Sticking to the schedule seems really important here. Hard situation with a lot happening at once. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam [music] catches a split-second decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. The next incident is when mom panics when cops discover her feces covered house of horrors. No no >> Gabe Grass keeps running away and you leaving your children up. >> I just sele 3 years trying to survive. >> On October 29th, 2024, officers arrived to conduct a welfare check at a residence after receiving reports about supervision concerns. >> Hi. >> Hi. How are you? >> Definitely not. >> We got a call to just come check up on you. Is your mom home? >> I'm called. >> I called you. >> Just a concerned citizen. >> You watch the music. >> Hi. Is your mom home? >> Not home. >> Okay. >> I can call her. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you have a phone number for her? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, it's her phone number. >> I just need to call her for anything. And listen, you're here cuz you're trying to keep my brother in here. >> No, no, no, no. We just came to do um just to check on you guys. >> Can I have her phone number? Is it okay if I call her? >> Hi, this is Officer Bunny Farmington Police Department. I'm trying to get a hold of Selena. >> Officers contact the parent by phone, inform her of the welfare check, and request that she return to the residence. >> Oh, she's right here. >> Hello. >> Hi. Is this Selena? >> Yes, ma'am. Hey, we're actually here at your residence right now. We're planning on doing a welfare check right here. Are you anywhere near? >> Not at the moment. I'm at work. >> You're at work? Okay. Well, we do need you here. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Officers remain with the miners, ask general safety questions, and explain that no one is in trouble while they assess well-being. >> Oh, she's right here. >> Hello. >> Hi. Is this Selena? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey, we're actually here at your residence right now. We're planning on doing a welfare check right here. Are you anywhere near? >> Not at the moment. >> I'm at work. >> You're at work? Okay. Well, we do need you here. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. We'll be waiting. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Bye-bye. >> I was school today. >> Hey, we're good. >> You go to FHS. >> Yeah. >> I'd love to add my mom a chance like a spare work apron. >> Guess what? Her mom's going be barbecue dad versus sports mom versus soccer mom. So, >> either you can dress up like a soccer player or it can be like a barbecue. Um, >> nice. Yeah. >> Do you know how long it be before your mom gets home? >> No. She hangs out with her boyfriend. >> But I don't know how long. Maybe like I don't know, man. Like I don't know. Maybe like half an hour. Maybe like maybe like 45 55 minutes. >> Hey, if you guys were ever hurt, what would you guys do? Is it funny if you guys got hurt? >> We would probably need to like find a phone. >> Yeah. >> Ask someone. Yeah, that's why mom that's that's how mom so >> Okay. So, how would you guys call for help if you guys needed help? >> Do you guys know how to call for us if you need us for help? >> 911. >> 911. >> 911. Okay. Well, we're going to wait for you while we're here, guys. Okay. So, >> officers observe safety concerns outside the home and intervene to prevent potentially unsafe behavior. >> So, you guys are aware? Yeah, I'm aware >> you guys aren't in trouble. We're just making sure you guys are okay. >> Yeah, we all right. >> Where's your shoes at? Your feet's going to get cold, man. >> It's all right. I mean, >> it's not It's not usually I find myself a hobby. >> Yeah. >> Don't tell myself a hobby for this. >> You know what I do with this? No, no, no, no, no. Gabe, >> my fence. >> Let's not. >> Sometimes it lands. Sometimes it does. Let's not do that, okay? Cuz I don't want you hurt. You what if you throw it and you hit you hit somebody over there? Probably not a good idea. Okay. >> Oh, don't worry. But I mean, but don't worry. It's all right. I'm very I'm very careful with it. Just so you know. >> I know. I'm not saying you aren't. I'm just I just >> But let me get you. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. But let me get you math. Like take that away. >> Yeah. It's not safe. You know what I mean? >> If you probably got like Look how much stacks of the ball. >> I mean, look. I mean, you see this this was mean night stuff. This is just for me though. All that you see all those freaking fats and heck even this thing right here. I freaking [laughter] >> piece of land. >> Hi. >> I'm the property manager here. >> Oh, you're the property manager? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> We're just doing a welfare check. We're waiting on mom. So, >> we'll be here for a little while. Hey. Hey, Chris. Doing okay. >> Oh god. The parent arrives and speaks with officers who explain the reason for the welfare check and ask about household routines and supervision. >> DAMN IT. OF COURSE YOU DO. I'M HERE RIGHT NOW. >> WHAT? >> HE doesn't like this. >> You have any family? The upholds or >> not? My sister though. >> I mean, it's mainly just mom. >> Okay. You don't have any or aunties? >> Nah. >> Where's your socks? It's cold. >> Fine. >> At least you got a jacket. That's mother's. >> Let me see that. >> That's mother's. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Hey, >> sorry about her. >> That's okay. Are you talking to me or her? Me or >> I I was I was talking about her and just I don't know. I just I just don't like doing all the time. Oh, >> listen. The reason why I got mad about you being here is because I don't want mom want me to get mad at >> Well, Chris, we're just checking on you, okay? To make sure everything's all right. So, we're not here to make any trouble or get you in trouble. Okay. >> Does that make sense? >> Yeah. You're fine. Don't worry. How's it going? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. Working. >> Yeah. Have you keep your hands out of your pocket, sir? Thank you. I'm not being investigated though. Why? Why you asking me? >> I'm not. I just asked you to keep your hands out of your pocket, sir. >> I don't want to get involved in >> I've already heard she spreading all kinds of bad juju every day to this person. what she's >> or who whoever she is. >> She Well, she's kind of his sister. They grew up together when they were kids. >> Her her dad used to date his mom and to this person. I barely talked to him. He already told me that she was talking to him earlier about saying all kind saying seeing all kinds of things though and I was at work at the mess. I mean heard I don't get along but I >> officers discuss prior reports, supervision concerns and notify the parent that child welfare authorities have been contacted per policy >> and I think she's she's making it for a very long time. >> Okay. Uh, and as far as living conditions as well, but they're not >> meaning dogs passing away and and dogs being disposed of. What? Whatever. I don't This is just what I'm getting as far as Okay. >> Okay. >> I mean, I do have I do have four dogs. >> Okay. And I do have four puppies, but >> so so in the city you can only have four dogs. Okay. So I'm just letting you know that. Okay. >> So I have to get rid of two dogs or can I just get rid of the puppies? That's all I'm waiting for as soon as they're old enough. >> But that's still a couple weeks, >> right? No. And they're still babies. >> And that that's something I'd have to talk to about. I I don't know to be honest with you. And I know I spoke to you before, but what what's your schedule like as far as like today? Like walk me through what happened. I went to work at I go in every morning Tuesday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2:30 I come home. I go get from Hamosa. Uh the boys ride the bus. I'll go get them dinner. She asked if I would stop by or the lady I'm doing the house for. Just wanted me to check in a few things. He's doing guitar as well and doing like side project for her and how often do you not often maybe for a few minutes you're running family dollar cuz I don't have at the moment but um >> cuz we've gotten multiple reports that you're leaving here >> and this has been multiple witnesses that you don't come home until the mornings just to wake up from school and take him to school and I already know the history as far is um your oldest going down arbies and and hanging them down, right? >> Find my bad part >> and and we've had this discussion with that over. As far as today goes, I've had to contact CYFD because that's part of our policy. So, they are >> I don't know yet. I I got to speak with CFD. I got to figure out what's going on. Okay. >> But it's concerning because we've had multiple calls. I've been here first. Officers request a walkth through to assess living conditions and identify additional safety issues inside the residence. >> But when when random people are calling or neighbors or it's anonymous to us, we don't know who calls. >> This is anonymous. >> So we don't know. But we're getting multiple reports from different people, which is absurd. Okay. I have been to this house multiple times for child neglect. For child neglect. Okay. >> Cuz Pres keeps running away and you leaving your children up to 10 and leaving your 11-year-old without >> moving any it doesn't matter. You're leaving your kids aro. >> Okay. It took you almost 45 minutes to get and how long were you? How long were you going to be gone? She said to go up there and come back cuz she's not she's not at the house right now. >> And how far out is that? It's like seven. >> So it doesn't take it. So my >> So I can never leave my house again. >> No, but I asked you to be a responsible parent. >> Responsible ma'am. >> And that's whatever your opinion is as far as goes. Okay. I have to call CFD. They will be your soon. Okay. We do need to do a walk through the house to make sure that his living spaces and living kids. >> Okay. Um where do all the children stay? Where does um Kayn's most fall asleep on the couch? >> Okay. And what about Fedra? >> Gel has his room. Christopher has a room. >> What about the other? What's up there? >> Uh I've been fixing it up. It's not great right now. There's no power. >> Chris, stay in there. >> She goes in there to be alone. Okay. He and his brother don't get along very well sometimes. >> Okay. So, he goes into >> Okay. And my next concern, you know, when we get here, obviously Christopher's upset because we're here and that's fine. There's not balling, but he has he has an array of knives that he somehow I I don't know. >> Officers note environmental and supervision concerns, coordinate with child welfare authorities, and prepare next steps. Hey, but So he had a knife with like a rope on it and he's swinging it around and throwing it against the fence. So >> I told you to get >> So that's that's on you. >> I understand. I caught him with that thing the other day. I threw it away and he went and found it. >> So take it somewhere else. I don't know. But he's out here unattended spinning that around. There's other children here. Okay. On top of that, we pull a fixed blade that's about this long from him. Okay. Like, do you understand my concern at that point? >> On the trampoline, ma'am, where the kids play. >> Here. Yeah. >> You're neglecting me. >> Nobody here even knows me. Comes over. Nobody calls me. Nobody talks to me. No one says hi. But I leave my kids alone for more than 5 minutes. And I've got SWAT team up all over the damn neighborhood. I am not anybody in here. I just a single mother for three years trying to survive. Do you have >> I would have anybody for services or anything? >> They offer all that. CID already talked to me about that multiple 200 times. >> And have you tried to help? >> I know about the whole Medicaid transport and public health appointments and they want me to do classes and all this other stuff. I have >> you have you accept all that or is there any type of plan? >> I gave to my new number, but it's out of service right now. So, the only way you could reach me is here at the house or maybe at work. >> Whose phone is your daughter? >> It's my phone. It like you can still call, but like I I don't have any data or anything like that. Sometimes she gets the calls, sometimes she doesn't. >> Okay. Cuz she called you perfectly fine. >> What? She's probably using That's why my phone says it's over minutes. >> Cuz it only gets five gigs and they said I've got like >> Okay. >> Yeah, it's over my limit. >> Okay. So, I mean, she's able to make phone calls, right? >> Yeah. It's It's a lot of excuses that I'm getting. Okay. And not a lot of accounting at this point. >> Okay. So, game plan for today. >> I can never leave my house again. >> No. We'll wait to show up. Okay. We're going to do a visit inside. Okay. They're probably going to talk to you. They're probably going to talk to the kiddos as far as that goes and do their best. Okay. People don't even know what's going on. They just see cops or they don't see me here. They're just nosy. They have no idea what's going on with me right now. >> And this is all just bunch of drama that's completely unnecessary. I didn't do anything to anybody. I have no parents, no family. I have nobody around here. Is my mom going to jail? >> No, she's fine. >> Did you take a shower, Chris? >> Yes, I >> Okay, >> you can go inside if you're you don't know if you stand on here while your hair's wet and you're cold. >> Yeah, your mom >> your mom's fine. >> Okay, but what did mom talk tell you? >> That that's more of an adult conversation, Chris. So, we're going to wait till mom comes back out. Okay. Can you maybe get mom for us? Is >> she inside? >> You want mom out? >> Yeah. Can we talk to her again? >> MOM WILL GET PISSED OFF. WELL, we won't. Nobody's mad. Nobody's mad. Chris, >> you're fine. >> See, I told you. Mom hates it when you're here. >> And plus, you don't want you to get sick. Your hair is all gone. >> I'm sorry. I can't. I just can't. >> Okay. Thank you though. >> And every time the door would open, I could smell like dog poop or whatever. It's not. >> Oh, okay. It's not a pleasant sight. She's not even here to take care of them. Mom, >> what's up? >> Uh, did you want to stay car? >> Yeah. >> Hi. >> Wait a minute. Did you pull the cop to sit on me? >> No. When we showed up, they immediately started cleaning the kids. Mom about an hour to get here. Even though she said she was just up the street. >> Okay. >> And she's cleaning right now. She's >> Yeah, let's go. Mom's name. >> Okay. So, she's going to come in and stop. >> And Kayyn's with her friend right here, but she's been walking. She's turquoise or jacket. >> So, we've been here for an hour, almost hour and a half. Okay. >> The dogs that was another concern from >> dog feces and factor >> dogs dying stuff in the bathroom. She's almost dying. >> Okay. >> He's freaking out. Get shut out. >> Hey Selena, I need you to Hello. >> Oh, don't let the dogs get out. >> Oh, sorry. >> Man, it's a workout. >> Can you go get your mom, please? >> She's really freaking out right now. >> Okay, tell her we we need her at the door right now. >> And I think she at me cuz of my freaking rope spear thing. >> You're not trouble. >> You're not trouble fault. >> Did you get your ball? >> She's coming right now. You guys can come in. >> Okay. Thank you. So like I said they can do their visit as WELL AND THAT'S OKAY. WE do have TO DO A HOME QUESTION to talk to you about too. Um so as far as >> officers arrange for the miners to stay elsewhere temporarily while the situation IS REVIEWED. >> She said where does everyone sleep? >> Most well they have their rooms but mostly we sleep in here cuz we don't have the internet at the moment. So we watch movies. >> Yeah. But the only with the only escape. >> Do I have to take you or can you guys >> You want I'll just let you guys say watch your >> Yeah, there's walk. IT'S IN THE PROCESS of cleaning, but it's Yeah. Okay. Go do what you got to do. It's okay, MAN. >> Can I talk to each of your kids by themselves? Maybe just go outside. >> Yep. That's >> Yeah, there's no internet here. Oh, dang it. Yeah, I remember you telling me there's no internet here. Cool. You usually sleep in here and hang out. >> Yeah, I mostly >> sleep here. >> Do you watch TV in here sometimes? >> Oreo. >> If if there's internet here, I could, but right now there's no internet. >> Oh, okay. Can I look back there? Is that your bathroom? What is that? >> Yeah, sorry, but that one's off limits. It's the bathroom. But you don't want to look in there. >> All right. I won't look in there. All right. Well, cool. Nice little hangout spot. I appreciate it. >> Okay. I'll I'll go get my stuff. >> I'll go over here, guys. I just need to get my stuff. >> We appreciate it, Chris. Thank you. >> Got my stuff packed in. >> Are they Are in the car yet? Such a >> They're getting their stuff. Yeah, they're getting their stuff. If you want to go over here, you can put your bag in the car. shower. >> You guys got your stuff? >> So, we're having So, we're just having to stay the night with you guys. >> Yep. You're going to stay the night over here. So, let's grab your bag and you can put it. Your brother's in the car already. Okay. >> Yep. [snorts] And the thing is, will we be back home tomorrow? >> Um, just depends. Okay. >> Depends. That's possible. >> Possible. In fact, I came out myself. >> That's okay. >> Just that for the night. That's okay. >> It'll be okay, you guys. Give me just a second. >> Okay. Bye. Come back. Officers place the parent under arrest and explain that charges are related to neglect concerns and the conditions observed. >> The thing is if we have to get a ticket to the first home, we need to get brought back so I can take the suitcase and everything else with me. >> That's okay. We're going to worry about we'll worry about tonight. As long as you have stuff for the evening, we'll be good to go. Okay. >> Yeah. Yep. And >> it's not taking us to juven. [laughter] >> Yeah, you guys are not in trouble. >> Yep. I just hope Yeah. I just hope we'll be able to actually come back home. >> Yeah. >> You gave them up forever >> and actually making a school. >> Oh yeah, you guys will go to school. So embarrassing. >> Yeah. And that's say And let's say it's actually a spirit week. So I hope you have an apron over at CFD cuz I'm going to do a barbecue dance. It's like on Wednesday there's like a spirit week going on in my school, but Wednesdays like barbecue dad versus soccer like a soccer player or like a like cooking like barbecue. I don't do that. So yeah, I need like an apron or something. >> Perfect. >> An apron. Okay, we'll see what we got. >> Yeah, like I don't care if it's like a green apron, a blue apron, a black apron. >> Just an apron. >> Apron. >> Just like any apron. Like any apron. I just like I hope we can get these dogs taken care of. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Take care. >> Well, let's get you in the vehicle. It's cold. >> I think your brother's in there. Ready to go. officer stated the parent was arrested for neglect related charges based on supervision and living condition concerns observed during the welfare check. Remember, welfare checks focus on immediate safety and are guided by observations made at the scene. When concerns involve minors, officers may involve child welfare agencies as part of standard procedure. This is the reaction of netzens to this situation. This shows how welfare checks can turn into longer investigations. A difficult situation with a lot of moving parts. Good reminder that safety assessments are taken seriously. You think the officers were out of options here? Watch what happens next on the body cam and tell us [music] if you would have done the same. The next incident is when the moment irresponsible. Mom knew she was in big trouble. >> Do you know what month it is? >> Got hurt. >> You don't know how to spell your middle name. This is not what marijuana or alcohol does. Officers found this in plain sight. I'm not a criminal. >> This is not normal kid stuff. Okay. >> The begun sitting inside of my little um jeep. Do >> you normally keep large? >> On February 14th, 2025, officers observed a young family member with confusion and visible injuries while asking basic orientation questions inside the home. >> From death perception and he was seeing like shadows in front of his eyes or something. And that's the first time he's ever said anything like that. And >> just today, >> is he on medications or anything like that? >> No. >> Alcohol or anything like that today? >> I haven't seen him drinking today, but I know he has. I mean, not today. As far as I know, I can't. >> But he doesn't have like problems with or alcohol. >> Nothing out of the ordinary. I mean, >> yeah. I'm not trying to get him in trouble. I just want to make sure he's complaining that he couldn't see straight. like she look friendly and I was like he was talking and he looked like he was having >> okay or anything wrong. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Officers conduct basic medical checks, confirm disorientation, and assess the location where the injury occurred. >> Right in the bathroom, small little hallway. >> Walk out here and sit down. >> How old is he? >> 19. >> Has he been to the doctor in the last couple years? had a checkup or anything other than a broken arm a couple years ago. I had no idea what that was coming out of. I was like, "What? Has he been acting normal?" >> No. Today he was complaining that he couldn't see straight and he had trouble with that perception and he laughed maybe half an hour or so before that. >> So, no idea about what could have caused this. So, >> no, he just told me that he was seeing things whenever his vision was off. >> Is he a diabetic nor? No, he's never been diagnosed with anything. I've been trying to encourage him to eat more and eat healthy and drink water. >> Where's he been all day? >> He's been here all day. As far as I know, we slept late and got up high around noon. And there was one time I had conscious when I was a kid. I had drank too much and fell over and was also yesterday. been hold. >> So, did you hear those sticker in the bathroom? >> Yeah. Good. And I said, "Are you okay? There's >> a going to take your temperature in your ear." >> I can't find anything. It's just all It looks like it's coming up. 99.99. >> He's tacky. 118 93%. >> Hey, Daniel. Do you know where you are right now? >> Where you are? Where are you? I haven't your house. Perfect. Do you know what month it is? >> Do you mind if I look in the bathroom where you got hurt? >> You don't remember what month? Okay. Uh, do you know what town we're in? >> It's more than >> What' you say? >> It's yours. >> Didn't Does he have a cell phone? >> No, >> he doesn't have a phone. >> He's using my old phone. >> Okay. He doesn't feel sick or anything. >> So, he doesn't have a phone number. >> You fell forward and hit your face. Have any pain anywhere about dizziness? >> What's your middle name? >> Spelled fine. >> Officers directly question the parent about prior substance use and explain that the concern is medical safety, not punishment. >> I never spell it. >> You don't know how to spell your middle name? >> It's a weird weird spelling. I don't know how to spell it. A C H or something like >> Is it on your driver's license? >> Yeah. You want my job? >> If you have it, I'll take it. Sure. Does he work or do anything like that? Does he have a job? >> Yeah. He just started at the new Pizza Hut. >> New Pizza Hut. Nice. So, I want you to be real straight with me. You clearly he's using something. Do you know what it is? >> I haven't seen him do anything. >> I'm not asking if you've seen anything. What do you know him using in the past? >> That's it. He's not taking like pills like or anything like that that you know of. >> Okay. I'm not Listen, I'm not here to get him in trouble right now. He needs medical care and that's important for them. Okay. >> I really do. >> Okay. He can't even talk. >> I know. He's not getting in trouble with me by any means. >> I'm asking this because it's important for his safety, right? >> This is not what or alcohol does. Okay. >> Okay. Officers discuss long-term behavior concerns and confirm no prescriptions or medical explanations are known. >> So, you think that he's maybe been doing something besides those two things. And how long have you been worried about that? Gosh. >> Okay. Has he gotten in trouble in school because of it or anything like that? >> He quit school. Okay. So, he didn't graduate from Adel then. Okay. Do you have any suspicions of what it could be? >> Okay. Have you found it in the house by chance? never I would hit I freak out if I was >> so I never really cared about them >> you know not as bad as those other things and but I is he is dad involved in it or >> he's not involved in our life >> at all okay so he wouldn't be getting it from dad or anybody like that >> I would know I don't know I don't know what these kids do what they talk about >> I hear you but you know he lives in your house. So, you know, you can go through his stuff and make sure that that's not happening. >> I've never seen any evidence of it not here. >> Okay. So, do you know what evidence of use would look like? >> All right. Let's go. >> Okay. So, you're you're well verssed in it. >> I I know what it looks like. I know what it must if I had. >> So, like if he was smoking it, you would know if he was Okay. So, you don't think that he smoked it tonight? >> No. >> Okay. >> He's been here all night. Officers observe illegal substance items in plain sight, which the parent admits belong to her while a minor is present in the home. >> I wouldn't think he's just if his eyes look funny because he didn't see straight and then he fell down. >> Hey, so got plain view pipe. Mom admitted it was hers. I got a little baby here. Not a baby, but a little kid. other kid that had a seizure is definitely going to be transported. He's not with it. I'm assuming that I'm just talking to probably have to get a search warrant if mom's not going to give consent to search the rest of the house. Probably going to have to book her on child. >> Are you guys transporting? I would assume. >> Yeah. He's not answering questions, right? >> All right, Mom. Um, we're going to be taking him into the hospital. >> Officers advise that the young adult will be transported for medical evaluation and read the parent her rights. >> He's checked out. He's not answering us correctly. I just don't feel comfortable leaving him here. >> Can I have you go have a seat over there for me just for a second? Okay. So, we can talk to mom. Okay. So, there's obviously a few things we need to address. Before we go ahead and do that, I'm just going to go ahead and read you something here. Okay. Do you understand those rights that I've read to you? Okay. We Well, officers found this in plain sight. Okay. You said it was yours? >> I just picked it up right before I heard you fall. Yeah, it's mine. >> Okay. So, you're planning on using it tonight before he fell? Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's kind of a medical thing, but I'm not that close with the disease. >> You don't have a prescription or anything for it? >> Okay. Is there anything else in the house like that? Anything more? >> I don't even I have a little little hiding bit left, I think. But >> where was that? >> Just another pipe. And >> just another pipe. >> That's a pipe up there. Officers continue a consentbased walk through discussing supervision responsibilities and access to potentially unsafe items. Is >> there anything in the house that we need to know about your weapons or anything? >> Or anything that's just that's what you had. I'm not I'm not a criminal. I'm not we're not saying that. >> Okay. But obviously there comes an issue when we have this and the presence of children, right? And I understand that you're probably dealing with some things and a lot of it was for medical reasons, but this is not a state. >> Oh, no problem. >> Especially if you don't have a prescription. So you said there's nothing else in the house. No more, no more pipes, no paraphernelia. >> I have if he's got something back there that that I mean I have. >> And whose room is this? >> It's my room. >> Where's his room back there? Can we go look at it? >> Yeah. This is your house. This is your property. Okay. So, to an extent, you know, yeah, I get that he's older, but he still lives in your house. So, a little bit responsible for what he brings in the house. Okay. So, if you want to show us and you'd be okay with just showing us where he resides. >> This would be his room. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. >> But you're suspecting other usage besides >> Yeah, I have for a while. He just seen kids grow, but he's he seems kind of underweight. >> Officers identify additional concerning items in a bedroom and explain why the situation exceeds normal household behavior. >> Unusual and all the scabs and picking and >> okay, >> he sleeps normally. I mean, I don't I don't understand that. [snorts] >> Yeah, >> but I'm not I'm not an expert either. I know what it looks like. I don't know what it smells like, but I mean >> So, but so because of the other concern here is you've got a little little one. Okay. She's what? Nine. How old? >> She's eight. >> Eight. Okay. Imagine if she walked into brother's room one day when brother wasn't home and found a needle or anything else to the amount that he was using. That have some serious consequences. I know you don't go in there or like so you say, but like I mean, have you ever seen needles just being left out on accident? Have you ever seen him carry things in? >> I've even if I find beer cans laying around or anything like that, I tell him I don't want alcohol here. I've seen empty liquor bottles before and I tell him that he's not I don't allow anything. I I know that he smoked. >> Yeah. >> But that's, you know, over influence and everything, but never allowed anything else. >> And [snorts] he is 19, correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Do you know who he'd possibly be getting from? >> His friends. You don't know his friends at all? >> They don't. I don't let him come over here. >> Okay. So, no one's coming and going from the house. >> They're not supposed to anyways. >> Is he coming and going from the house pretty often? >> No, not much. He He'll leave for a little while at night and come back, but he's not in and out in and out invades. >> Okay. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. >> No, it's not. >> This is not normal kid stuff. Okay. It's been worrying me for a while and then >> well I would say tonight is probably the tipping point of that where this has probably come to a head. Okay. >> So I think we got to address the elephant in the room. >> Officers locate multiple illegal substance related items during a safety check and explain the seizure as evidence. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And where does brother hang out when mom's gone? In his room or does he like hang out with you too? >> Uh he just sits in his room all night. >> Typical boys. And all I do is uh play on the phone. >> Yeah. Silly boys. >> One time when he was like younger >> um >> Yeah. >> And he accidentally with his friends he accidentally show like >> when how long ago was that? >> I have no idea. >> And he knew it was a BB. >> Yeah. I have a picture on my mom's white camera or I think on her phone like the BB sitting inside of my little um Jeep. It's a tiny miniature Jeep that's outside. >> The BB was in the Jeep. >> Yeah, we have like a far away photo and a close-up photo. >> Oh, does he still have the BB gun? >> No. >> We We went to the police officer station and he doesn't have anymore. >> Got it. Got it. All right, hang tight for me. Okay, I'm going to go talk to mom out here. Okay. You want to hang out in here for a little bit? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you want his va thing? Maybe he's smoking something out of that. >> Is that what was in the bathroom? >> Yeah. I don't know nothing about those either. >> Okay. Yeah. Well, we Well, >> feel free to look around. I already showed you what I asked for. >> Nope. I'm Listen, I mostly I look around for my safety. I don't want, you know, knives, things like that to be left out. Anything that could hurt me, hurt you, hurt a little one, things like that. Just while I'm here. Does he normally keep large knives in his room? Oh, >> I'll just put it there just so it's out of there. Okay. >> Weird things. I don't question him much. He's not violent or anything like that. He's he's really stubborn >> when you ask him questions. He's always been like that, >> but he ain't he ain't a criminal either. >> When did you start noticing him start losing weight? Has he always been smaller statured or was he a little bit heavier set at one point? Not in like a obese way, but >> a good bit of baby fat on him before he got that tall. And I just figured he stretched out like the other kids do cuz I see other kids saying they way skinny and super tall and when >> Yeah. Well, there's I would say >> he doesn't gain any weight either. And >> he's not eating. You said >> he doesn't. He eats. >> He eats, >> but like maybe like one meal a day or something. I've been trying to get him to do three meals a day and stuff and >> and he's got scabs. Where are they at? >> He's got scabs all over his body. I never knew anybody like that, but I always heard stories of I >> Yeah. And you said it's been like two years. >> Two years. He started losing weight two years ago and he just keeps getting skinnier. >> Okay. And he's lived with you the entire time. >> Okay. >> Not tripping before. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know if maybe you messing around with mushrooms or something. >> Yeah. >> I don't know if that makes you pass out or fall on, but I know he's talked about that. >> Okay. >> I wouldn't know anything about that. What time did he start mentioning that he couldn't cease quite straight? >> That was earlier this afternoon. Probably about 2:00ish. >> 2:00ish. >> And yesterday he was talking about how he didn't feel good and he looked really pale and he took some Nyquil and went to >> So 2:00 today was seeing a dark line in his eyes. >> I mean I it's one thing. I mean it's not legal but it's one thing and you know that's a different step up if you think that that's what it's probably is. >> Yeah. that can alcohol and mixing all that stuff together. >> Makes it even worse. Sure does. >> Even worse. >> And then you said yesterday he said he wasn't feeling good. >> Acted like he had a head cold or something. >> How long has your son been drinking? >> Do you go in his room very often? >> He kind of just stays by himself in his room. >> Yeah. I just want to show you what I found in his room. I don't know how often you see in the room or not. So, >> officers arrange care for the minor with another family member and explain booking procedures >> appropriate to put him under arrest right now. So, again, I'm just seizing it at the time. If we move forward with something, we'll let you know. But right now, my main concern is with what we found with you in the house and your daughter there. I'm not going to put you in cuffs right in front of her right now. What I am going to do, Is there anything on you that's going to poke or stick me or any more or anything like that? No. Okay. I'm just going to do a quick pat down. Okay. So, for right now, I'm just going to have you have a seat in my car. You'll be able to say goodbye to your daughter, but is someone going to pick her up or just stay with her? >> She She should be here in like a few minutes. >> Yep. So, what I'm going to Yep. I'm going to start my paperwork in here. You can have a seat in the back. I won't put you in handcuffs right now cuz that's going to be uncomfortable for you. And speak to your daughter back here. It's your daughter, correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. And your first name? >> Ava. >> Ava. I'm suicid so that I I have to get charged with possession and piled in. >> Okay. What does that mean? >> It's okay. Take a deep breath. I know this is a lot. So, what's going to happen is she's under arrest. We're going to take her down to Dallas County Jail. She'll get processed there. Officers arrested the parent for endangerment possession of a controlled substance and possession of related items after observing illegal substances in plain view while a minor was present. Remember officers prioritize immediate medical safety and household risk factors when responding to welfare related calls. The presence of illegal substances in a home with minors can lead to both medical intervention and criminal charges. This is the reaction of netisonens to this situation. This escalated quickly once the safety concerns were clear. A lot is going on, but the officers stayed focused on procedure. Shows how health issues and home safety can overlap. The tension is already high. Or so it seems. What the body cam captures next saves a life pause and comment what you do here. >> YES. YES. CAMERA. I TOLD YOU TO DO THIS >> cuz he has a 2-year-old, a oney old, a newborn, and another one. So, you got key thr into the windshield of the vehicle knowing that his one-month-old was in the front seat. >> I'm just >> on November '05, 2022. Police responded to a domestic disturbance involving a father allegedly throwing a deadly object at a vehicle occupied by his children. Initial reports state a bike was thrown at the windshield. Yes. The do I pay these bills here? Ask who pay these bills. [music] You don't pay. I pay these bills. I move. >> So then I said, "You're not on my son birth certificate." Okay, I'm going to do it. You I'm not going to hit you. But he was like, >> according to the father, the mother refused to hand over the child, rolled up the car window, and attempted to drive away. He says he feared for his safety and his child's well-being due to her irrational behavior. >> Come check my baby, please. >> Yeah. >> Check on your baby. >> Yes. Cuz you LOOK AT MY BABY. SO YOU going to let me sit here and lie RIGHT NOW? >> YES. YES. I'M SCARED. WHAT YOU SAYING? I SAID I told you try to do this because they pulled up. I did. Come on. >> So like I was saying, >> bro, you >> Hey, you can't say to me no more. >> I'm still getting your sign. Yes, ma'am. >> You go to say goodbye to the son. >> Yeah. So I said, "Let me see my son." So when I when I ask for my son, she said no. So now I'm saying her like, "What the is you trying to hold my son for?" Like, "What is your what is your what is you gaining from trying to hold my son again?" So now she getting mad. So I'm trying to open the door cuz now she trying to take off with my son. So when she trying to take off with my son, I'm trying to do get my son out of here now because I don't know what she got going on. She is irrational. She's always been irrational. It is it it is it is in y'all books of her being irrational. The mother reports hearing loud impacts and discovering a bike lodged under her vehicle and damage to the windshield. She claims the father intentionally threw the bike during the confrontation. >> Okay. So, what did you do when you tried to get your son? >> Well, I tried opening the door first. >> The vehicle? >> Yes. But I tried opening the door first. Like >> I moved us here. I pay these bills here, man. The do I pay these bills here? Assho pay these bills. You don't pay. I pay these bills. I moved us here. >> What else? >> What? I Man, I moved us here. Yeah. I got receipts. Talk about >> your name. >> What? >> Your name? >> Oh, Juan know who I am. >> Let's stop this. >> I'm not Jose, >> man. You don't never say nothing to me, man. >> All right. Do me a favor. Let me go look at the car and you just stay there. Okay. >> That's why I don't say nothing to you. >> Let me come over here. Show me what's going on. >> What? >> My family. >> All right. You right. You right. You You absolutely right. You know that. You absolutely right. >> What? So, what happened? >> I I was in the bathroom. I heard a boom in the bank. I I thought it was my dog out here chasing lizards at first along the house. >> Officers confirm there is no formal custody agreement and the father is not listed on the birth certificate. Ownership of the vehicle is disputed, but legally registered to the mother. >> So I heard the boom and the bang. I didn't eventually know, but then I heard I heard it again. So I came outside. When I came outside, she was backed up right there. That bike was like up under his wheel. >> So I asked her what was going on. She said he th that windshield. >> Do you have footage of him do it? >> Um, no. But he is responsible for that. >> All right. I just want to get your side still. So do you guys have like a court agreement or anything like that? >> What do you mean? I don't I don't get that. My son's a month old. You know what I'm saying? I don't I don't I don't get what you mean by that. Like he's literally 5 weeks old. Well, do you guys have like an agreement like you get certain days or >> certain days? Ma'am, I live here. I move here. I still live here. >> You want me to grab my clothes out of here? >> No, I I see what you're saying. Who's that guy? >> I supposed to be bumble, man. You know somebody that claims Oh, this my knees. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So, is that your car, too? >> I bought it. >> Is it in your name? >> No, ma'am. I put it in her This one is >> So, regarding the windshield, what happened? >> Okay. So, when I tried to open the door, remember I told you about me trying to open the door? She backed up. Now, remember I said she's irrational. So when she back up, she lines on me. Now when you back up, you're supposed to back up that way, right? >> You see where her car at, right? You're supposed to back up to that way so you can come out this way, right? You back up and aim it directly towards me. I'm not going to let her hit me in that. >> Yeah. All right. >> No, I'm good. >> I'm not going to let her hit me with no car, man. That shit's crazy, man. But you But you even backing up for I didn't show no aggression. M said, "Man, oh, let me see my son, man." >> And he was in the back, obviously, in a car seat. >> Tell me where I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, tell me where I'm wrong. I don't know. Tell me if I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, tell me where I'm wrong. >> Well, I mean, I'm asking I'm getting there, but did you throw the bike at the windshield? >> Once you start coming forward, yes, I did. >> He insists he aimed to block the vehicle, not strike the windshield, but acknowledges knowing the newborn was seated in the front passenger seat in a car seat. >> Okay. And what was that? Just for like defense. >> Just to have a stop and when she stopped, I left. I ain't nothing. I even left my son's bag and my daughter bag right there. That's why I came back over here and picked it up. Right. I'm just going to summarize it real quick. On your way out, I want to say bye bye the son, right? She says no. You go to open which car door do you go to open? >> Well, actually I lied. He wasn't in the back seat. He actually was in the passenger seat if he >> in a car seat. >> Yes, ma'am. If you probably go in there, probably stay right there. Pay attention to that. Um Okay. >> So, instead of me trying to go over there by the bushes, I'm like, "Hand them to me." When she said no, that's when I tried to open the door cuz I was going to reach across and just get them. >> Right. >> So, she was like, "No." And she's like, "No." I'm like, "Damn." Like, what you mean? No. Where you going for to take him, man? Man, I'm not going to take Man, give me my son, man. And that's when she backed up and tried backing up. Now, if a person start backing up a car on you, you going to go into defense mode, right? >> Right. >> Okay. She say she want to talk so much about that camera. You'll see her do that. You want to talk about that camera? Have them pull that damn camera. >> So, her vehicle was faced that way. >> It was facing this way. Like this way. >> The mother states the bike hit the windshield, shattering glass inside the car with fragments landing on the baby. Paramedics later check the child and instruct her to clean glass from the baby's hair and car seat. >> Let me go talk to her. You're not going to leave, are you? >> All right. >> All right. What happened? >> We started off arguing on the inside cuz he was trying to tell me what to do with my child. Pretty much I told him like cuz he has multiple kids. I was telling him, I understand that this is me and your first child together, but this is not my first child. I got plenty of kids that I keep all the time. I told him, "Stop trying to tell me what to do. You don't tell your other baby mas what to do with their kids." Cuz he has a 2-year-old, a one-year-old, a newborn, and another one doing something. So you got kids. I told him, "Don't tell me what to do. You don't tell them what to do with their kids. That's aggravating." So then I said, "You not on my son birth certificate." Okay, I'm going to do it to you. I'm not going to hit you. But he was like, like he was going to I was on the phone. I said, "Hit me if you want to." Like you're going to jail. Hit me if you want to. So he back off and walked away. So I put my baby in the car. And my newborn was already in the car. So we we was waiting. His car was crunk up cuz he was leaving already, too. He put his daughter in the car. So we was waiting for him to go. So he came up to my window, my driver side window, and he was like, "Let me get my son." And I said, "No." And then he was like, "Let me get my son." And I said, "I don't have to. You're not on his birth certificate." So he tried to hit my car with the bicycle twice on my driving window. So I backed out real fast and he threw it. It hit my windshield. But when he hit my windshield, obviously the glass went everywhere on the inside. So it got on my baby, which the paramedics already checked out, but it hit right there. But my uncle has a ring camera. So the moment I stopped my car, I called my uncle. I said, "Uncle James called the police." I said, "Cuz he going to go to jail and he was talking all that." And I said, "I don't care. He got a ring camera. It's going to show that you did it." And then you left. And then he came back. And when he came back, I said, "That's okay." Cuz I already called the police. So when y'all got here, he's like [clears throat] I was like, "You really doing this?" Yes. You threw a bike at my car with both my kids in it. Both my kids been crying since you did it. You put my first child's life in danger anyways. There's glass in his >> officers explain that regardless of intent. Throwing an object at a vehicle with a child inside constitutes a serious criminal offense. >> Well, honestly, I didn't really try to hit the windshield. >> I know. >> You know, I tried to hit the front, so if she was to go, she hit the bike. >> Got it. So, do me a favor. Okay. Just turn around. We're going to do it the easy way, right? It'll work out. And you said your dad's coming out >> cuz you threw the bike in the windshield, which one damaged the windshield. Two, put your truck on. >> Turn it off. >> Your dad's coming for your daughter. >> Uh, well, actually, I'm trying to see if my brother Oh, my brother could come before my dad. My dad stayed all the way um Parish. So, >> either way, we could have somebody that is family to come get your daughter. >> I'm trying to do all that right now. >> Well, we'll we'll work with you. We're actually just Is the car on? >> Hey honey, it's okay. What's your name? What's your name? It's okay. >> I ain't run this time or nothing. >> The action that went wrong was when you threw the bike at the vehicle. >> What about what about if she was to try to hit me? Then what what I what do I go wrong again? What if I'm hit? >> Did you have time to move out of the way? >> I didn't know if I had time to I can't ride car. Yeah. >> Police begin arrest procedures. The father becomes emotional and repeatedly expresses concern for his daughter who is still present at the scene. >> Uh in the process of her backing up, I did. >> Hey, what's your daughter's name? >> Hey, make sure you have my money, too. >> Just don't even interact. Just let her talk and >> Yeah, we're going to move it. Don't worry. >> You got anything tucked in you, man? >> Cool, man. You got to be small ass things, man. Come on, man. I need to call them so I can make sure they come and I'm talking about my daughter, man. >> I know. Just have a seat. >> Going right now. >> This is not going to be like We're leaving in a second. All right. We're going to be sitting down for a few minutes. All right. And no, that's why I'm trying to I'm trying to get be able to make sure they coming. What if they What if they not coming? >> I got to make sure somebody's coming. >> Well, yeah. We're not going to leave without us knowing. And somebody's going to stay here with your daughter. >> I have to make sure, man. I'm telling you, I'm respectful, man. >> Who's somebody that you want to call? >> I'm trying to figure I' been trying to figure this out all the time. The whole time >> before y'all even came. I didn't run. I didn't leave. I've been trying to call them. I got to make sure something. My mom's in Orlando. At least try to call my mom. >> That one right here. No. >> Is he with you? >> Yeah, that's my uh >> Okay. Stay in the car or you >> What's going on? >> So, listen, man. I'm um I need you to take my car. I know she I know she can talk. I need you. My daughter in the car right now. I need uh take my daughter. My sister didn't answer. My mom in her. My dad ain't paired. >> If you can hold on to it for a second, it ain't going to be long. It going to be a few hours. >> It's sliding. I'll put the window down. All right. What what what is going >> officers coordinate with family members to ensure the father's daughter is safely released to a responsible adult before transport like the charge and stuff? >> Uh right now throwing a deadly miss on a vehicle >> throwing a deadly miss. >> So here's the situation. They were they were in an argument. >> Everything was fine. It went south when he picked up the vehic um little kid's bike. Threw it into the windshield of the vehicle knowing that his onemonth-old was in the front seat. I'm just >> Okay, that's where the issue comes. So, that's what he's going for. The issue that we have right now is his daughter's in his car. So, we need somebody to be able to take custody of her right now so she can leave. >> Mhm. >> I got it. She said her name was Isaiah. >> Hey, Jade. Hey, >> you need to move. You need to move this right now. >> 20th Street. nonverbal. >> Uh yeah. >> Officers explained that while the father's concern for his child is understandable, he had safer legal alternatives, such as calling police instead of intervening physically. >> You pick up the bike at that time, you had room to move or vacate the area. Throwing and I hear what you're saying, but throwing the bike into the windshield knowing your spine's in the front seat. That's where it comes in. Um, do you care or mind if I just take a picture of the little one since he was the one that was in harm's way? >> No, I don't mind talking about the pieces of glass that I'll be saying. >> I said glassing his hair still. >> I'm just going to take a picture. I just want to show that the glasses on there. >> Oh, damn it. >> He's adorable. >> Thank you. >> So, for restraining order clerk of the court, you can go down to the station, get a copy of the report through that case number. Um that'll help you with the restraining order. Um did he ever put his hands on you or it was verbal and then this is kind of what was the icing on the cake? >> It was mainly for you mean why I want a restrain order or you mean just today? >> Just today. >> Just today. No, he didn't. >> Okay. Okay. I'm going to take him. My partner is going to more than likely um >> wait for the car. >> For the car and then there somebody's going to come if not his friend or whoever that is. >> Um take his daughter. >> Okay. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. So what's your two relation? You're giving custody of your daughter. >> Okay. >> How do you spell your first name? >> A R T I E. >> 51 SSO jail, one black male, story mileage, five. >> I thought that me not putting my hands on her protecting myself. I did the right thing. >> You did. You did until you threw the thing into the windshield. You could have called us and said, "My child's mother is not allowing me to take my son. He's in the front seat in a car seat that is not secured and I'm afraid she's going to drive off. I know your intentions were good as far as, you know, being concerned for him. It's just the >> the father was arrested and charged with throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, a felony offense. Officers determined that despite his stated intent to stop the vehicle, he knowingly through an object that shattered a windshield while his one-month-old child was inside, placing the child at risk of serious injury. The child was medically evaluated and released, and arrangements were made for the father's daughter to be placed with family. Remember emotional reactions during custody disputes [music] can turn a family argument into a criminal case in seconds. Even defensive actions become criminal when a child is placed in immediate danger. This is the reaction of netisens to this situation. Both parents failed here, but throwing the bike crossed the line. I get his fear, but that could have seriously hurt the baby. This is why custody issues should never be handled in the driveway. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam catches a split-second decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. >> Come here. Come here. Come here. Ma'am, >> don't make this more complicated than it is. >> Come here. >> Please stop. >> From Grand View Public. >> Oh my god. >> Yeah. >> On August 22nd, 2021, police responded to multiple calls about a woman bringing her four-year-old daughter into a bar with reports the child has no shoes or underwear and appeared distressed. >> I'm the one that called. It's this woman over here on the corner. We're just worried about the child. She I don't know if her mom is up or what. We did not serve her, but she just showed up about 30 minutes ago and the poor kid was walking around no underwear, no shoes, crying, wanting to go home. C >> bar staff explain the mother arrived about 30 minutes earlier. The child was crying, wandering, and begging to go home while the mother appeared disengaged. customers come come up to tell me that the mom was running into them following. >> All right. I appreciate it. Thank you. >> All right. So, I took care of it. If you want to leave me a card if I have any of the issues. >> I just got to talk to her real quick. >> Okay. >> You don't mind? >> What's your name? >> Jennifer. >> What's your name? >> What is it? >> What's your name? >> Meline. >> M A >> D E L I N E. You're four. >> Four. >> Is there any reason you have a four-year-old at a bar? >> No, >> there is no reason. >> No. >> Okay. Can we go outside and talk, please? >> Yes. >> All right. Awesome. Come on, Miss. >> No. No. Bring her. Bring her. >> Bring her. So, is this your daughter? >> Yes. [crying] >> Okay. So, you don't see any issue with bringing a four-year-old to a bar? >> I I >> Do you understand? I'll call DCF on you and they'll come and do a whole investigation. That's a problem. >> Yes. >> Officers confront the mother outside, warning that bringing a young child into a bar could trigger a DCF investigation. The mother [snorts] minimizes the concern. >> Okay. All right. So, I'm getting we've gotten multiple calls about this situation saying that your daughter's lifting her dress and she's not wearing any undergarments and it's an issue inside. >> Hold on, Charlie 6. We're outside now. We're out by the outside bar. Um I'm getting like they're saying that you're they think you're under the influence. You have a four-year-old at a bar. That's no issue in your mind. Um, I mean, I did not think it would. >> It's not like you're sitting at a dining table. You're literally sitting at a bar with a 4-year-old. >> Agreed. >> Okay. I have a 2-year-old, and there's no way in the heck I would ever do that, >> ever. >> Understood. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah. You just want to go? >> Officers speak gently with the child who confirms she is 4 years old and wants to go home. Officers try to keep her calm and reassured. home. Okay, >> you're kind of like putting me in a real tough spot here. >> We just hang out with my partner here. >> Jewish crash report. >> That's your daughter? >> Yes. >> Don't be scared. >> My name is Officer Hannah. What's your name? [crying] Everything's going to be okay. All right. >> You're okay, sweetie. Everything's okay. >> We're told that this was a not >> spot to take my daughter. >> It's okay. Um, have you been drinking today, ma'am? >> Um, come to 91 1928. >> Hi, mama. How old are you? >> Four. You're four. >> Okay. It's okay. You're almost gonna go home. Okay. >> What's her name? >> Maline. >> Maline. Oh, that's a nice name. Meline. I like your dress. >> The mother appears unsteady and distracted. Officers grow concerned she may be under the influence and unable to safely care for the child. >> You want me to close it out? >> It's unicorns, right? Yeah. >> Everything's okay. >> Is it okay for her to go home? Just wait one second now. When we're done, then we'll tell you what's going to happen. Yeah. >> Is there a chair or something? >> Maybe on the stairs if she can sit down on the stairs. >> No, I'm fine. >> We just don't want you to fall with your daughter in your hands. >> Can you talk to the child? >> Meline. Maline, come to me. Right here. Right here. How you doing? Are you okay? Yep. You okay? Walk over there. >> I know you can talk to me. Okay. >> I need you to talk to me. Stop right here. Right here. >> Officers separate the child briefly to assess safety, asking basic questions and checking for signs of abuse or injury. >> Talk to him right here. How you doing? Are you okay? >> Yeah. Is mommy okay? Mr. You have been arrested before? >> Yep. >> For what? >> Intoxication. It's not illegal to be intoxicated. >> What? >> It's not illegal to be intoxicated. >> No. >> Let me go call. You were with mommy all day today. >> Where are your shoes? >> 23. >> You left them in the car. >> You were hanging out with mommy. Were you hanging out with mommy? What was mommy doing? >> She was good. >> What was mommy doing? [snorts] >> She was in the store. >> Was she doing anything else? >> She was staying in there. >> Everything is okay with you. She didn't hit you or anything like that. >> I got it. >> The mother is placed under arrest for child neglect after failing to demonstrate safe judgment or supervision. >> Come here. Come here. Come here. >> Ma'am, >> don't make this more complicated than it is. >> Come here. >> Please stop. >> Please stop. >> It's okay. You're going to come with me. Okay. We're going to talk over here. Let's talk over here. Let's talk over here. Okay. >> You're being placed under arrest for child neglect. Do you understand? >> Officers work to find a safe caregiver. The child is comforted, praised, and distracted with police lights to reduce stress. >> Do you have anyone that can come pick up Maline? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, do you have grandma who lives with you? >> I just have a grandma and Titi. >> Grandma and Titi. They they do they live close? >> Do you know? H >> Well, they live. >> You want me want to hold my hand so you can feel better? >> Okay. Your grandma and Titi, they live here. >> Do they live close? >> They live in Tennessee. >> They live in Tennessee. Okay. Okay. You want to go see the the police car? >> You want to go see the lights? Yeah. Okay. Come on. I'm going to carry you. Okay. >> All right. Let's go see the lights. >> Okay. Hold on. >> All right. I'm going to bring you over to my car. I'll let you make phone calls there. Okay. [music] >> But it has to be somebody you choose. Obviously, we can't just leave with somebody. And if you can't find anybody, we got to call DCF. They're going to come get us. >> Okay. So, we're going to go down the stairs. Be careful. Let's go down the thing. >> High five. >> Yeah. Good job. Good job. >> You're such a good girl. You know that. Going to wait for the car to come here so we can look at the lights. Okay. >> My uh my partner behind you, she's going to search you and then we'll take you out of handcuffs as long as you cooperate and everything. Okay. Um you can make phone calls to have Meline get picked up. Okay. >> Uh-huh. >> All right. >> Hold on one second. You have anything on you? >> Witnesses and bar staff give statements describing the mother's intoxicated behavior, lack of response to the child, and attempts to take other patrons drinks. >> Up your daughter. Do you understand? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> You just hang out with this officer. I get a good statement. >> It's cool, right? Look at the light. You're going to be here with Crystal. That's her name. Okay. I'm going to go get statements and everything. Okay. right there. >> All right. Can you tell me what occurred today? >> Uh, mom came in with a young girl who was screaming, having a tantrum, obviously meltdown. She was tired. She was begging her mom to go home. Her mom seemed intoxicated, totally out of it. Um, >> when you say that, how how did she feel? Why do you think she >> lost the eyes just smiling at me? I was trying to talk to her. She didn't really have a reaction. Was she reacting to her daughter having >> not at all? That's why then we started to think maybe she's not her mom. Like this is weird. >> So then I asked her, "Are you this girl's mom?" And she said yes. Like no one not even like how dare you ask me. Like no no no reaction. >> Like over >> Exactly. She just said yes. And then then they walked away. 10 minutes later I had customers come to tell me please call the police. We just called them. Her daughter is standing in line. She has no underwear on. She's lifting her dress up, touching herself. Her mom is falling over, banging into us. >> Um, we just tried to call the police. Please call the police. >> Then they left. Then I had people at my bar tell me the mom was reaching for their beers. >> Just like random people at the bar trying to drink their beers. >> Okay. >> And >> it just was an uncomfortable situation. Poor girl was begging to go home and I told the mom I said it's 10:00 almost like she's tired. Why don't you go home? Can we call you an Uber? >> Mhm. >> And she just she had no reaction. Like I don't know if she was drunk or on pills or she just seemed absent. >> Okay. All right. Um >> put your hand up. >> Can you tell me what occurred? I heard the child screaming okay top of the lungs just screaming and I want to go home and she was barefooted and I actually kind of looked I kind of looked at her in a mean way cuz she was out of control >> of course >> but uh no it was you know >> right >> and everyone was watching >> okay and you were inside correct in the inside bar >> okay and you were you were at the corner where you were sitting down when I when I went in >> yes >> okay that's where you were at and then um so you saw the child obviously screaming and saying she wants to go home. Did you see anything else? Like did she react? Did she >> She didn't react. What did you see her do instead? >> She just stood there like like you didn't have a clue. It was sad. >> After that, did you see anything else? >> She tried to take my beer cuz I walked away and uh just to to make sure the police came and my brother tells me they try to take my beer. >> Okay. >> And that's what she was concerned with. >> The mother is processed at the station while arrangements are made for the child's custody and welfare. >> Okay. So, she was trying. You could tell that she was trying to drink, but Okay. But she didn't get any beer from anybody else. Um, let me see. >> She asked for the bart and they said no. >> Okay. Did you see the child do anything else other than screaming and kicking? >> No. >> No. Nothing else. >> I mean, she was very distraught. It was It was sad. It was sad to see was watching. Yes. >> Okay. Hey. >> Yeah. From the police station. >> No, from Grand View Public. >> From Grand View Public. >> Oh my god. >> Yeah. >> Um, Miss Rodriguez, who did you get? >> Her brother. >> Her brother. >> How long? >> Okay. >> Take a seat. >> All right. All right, I'm going to shut this door. >> All right, just have a seat in here. You need any water? >> Okay, I'll get you some water. Okay. Um, your piercings, do they come out? >> None of the piercings come out. And your ears, they don't come out. And your glasses, they prescription. Okay. All right. Give me one second. I'll get you some water. >> Miss Rodriguez. Miss Rodriguez. Ma'am, can I pat you down real quick and then I'm going to try to get some of those piercings out? Come on, wakey wakey. Time to wake up. I need to get some of your piercings out. I got your shirt. Can you sit up? >> There you go. All right. >> Stand up real quick. All right. Going to make sure you don't have anything in your pocket. I know another officer rejected you. >> Do you have anything in your bra? >> No. Nothing. Okay. All right. Okay, I'm going to try to take some of your piercings off. Okay, let look up. >> The mother was arrested for child neglect based on unsafe supervision and impaired judgment. Child protective services were contacted to ensure the child was released to a safe and appropriate guardian while the case proceeds. Remember, a parent's poor judgment, especially involving alcohol, can quickly escalate into legal consequences and child welfare intervention. Law enforcement prioritizes child safety first, even when the parent does not recognize the danger. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. That poor little girl begging to go home broke my heart. Thank God someone called the police. This is exactly why kids don't belong in bars. No matter how normal it seems to the parent, the officers handled the child so gently. That's how policing should look. Think this situation was already intense. The body cam catches a split-second decision that changes everything. Comment if you saw it coming. >> It's just not fair. So, as soon as we got to altercating, >> I did run here. >> You're scared? Don't worry. You ain't got to be scared. Okay. Everything's good. >> Yeah. On September 26th, 2024, police responded to a gas station after a report of two sisters arguing with concerns [music] raised about one sister drinking while caring for her children. >> Like at that time it was like 7:00. Come on. You >> involved in this? >> All right. Come out here. >> All right. What's going on? >> Okay. So, basically, I had came my grandma just stay off the exit. What she did imply like I came to get my license plate for my car and then I came to see my nephews. I already told her I was coming to stay the night. I wasn't going to drive back cuz I came from Atlanta. So I drove like an hour and 30 minutes to come. So we already talked about it. We cool, you know, it's no understanding like that. But she does have a problem when it comes to drinking, you know, like and like she would say like, you know, oh well I don't drink this much or I don't drink as much as this. But it gets her to a point to where she's knocked out. And that's what happened. Like when I walked in, when I knocked on the door, my nephew, my oldest nephew, answered the door. >> Have you ever lived with her? >> I've lived with her in the past, but it hasn't been like recent. >> How long have you lived with her? >> About 2 years ago. >> The sister describes a long history of alcohol abuse and mental health concerns, stating she has previously taken on a caregiving role despite being younger. >> Okay. >> So, yeah. So, I come here to visit when I see my nephew and he answered the door. I go in there and she knocked down like, "No, wake up." Like at that time it was like 7:00. I'm like it's only 7:00. Wake up. Like they all in here running around just get up. Like what are you knocked out for? And I'm like you ain't she like yeah I'm drunk. Then she goes to say yeah I'm tired. I'm like cool but I already know you. I can tell. I've witnessed this for years. Like I could tell I've had to chase her down the street. I've had to pick her up. Mind you I'm only 16 17. So it's just like I'm already young doing this plus taking care of her child. So all of that. Cool. So, as the time went by, >> a verbal argument escalates when the mother wakes up intoxicated and becomes aggressive toward her sister in front of the children. >> She cut me off for like a year or so because she's had thoughts in her head of our grandmother being in the ring and my mom's not really her um our mom's not really her mother and I'm not really her sister and so on and so forth. I didn't really, you know, in a way I was just like I'm just thinking about the kid at the point like cuz I don't want to just take them from their mama like but I know she's mentally like it's like a back and forth thing and I know what she does to coke is to drink. Like that's her coke right there. So I'm like cool. So I come in today and I'm like wake up n whatever the case may be. I'm just like wake up bro. I don't like when you drunk like that. Like and I'm just staying like under my breath. I'm not yelling like I'm not screaming or nothing like that. She wake up out of her sleep, goes crazy. You know what I'm saying? Blah blah blah blah blah. Mind you, I didn't even call the police after the jump. I did not cuz I wasn't going to. >> Officers separate the parties and collect statements noting conflicting accounts, but clear signs of intoxication from the mother. >> Third, I am going to get I'm >> Do you have your ID with you? >> It's in my car over there. >> That's fine. Don't Don't worry about it. I'll get your I'll get your name and stuff. >> What's going on? >> Me and my sister got in a disagreement. any like any sister, brother, mother, anything. She got the police involved. But I'm not her girlfriend. If you if you run her name, it's her and her girlfriend full of felony charges. But you come in my house and you start coming down on me. And I know I've come a long way. >> My glass is not perfect. I'mma be honest. I [crying] love you. >> Everybody makes mistakes. It's okay. >> It's just not fair. So, as soon as we got to altercating, >> I did run here. So, that explains how we look like how we look like right now. I was just like, "Okay, all I know is to run because if I stay there, then I'm definitely going to catch a charge." You know what I'm saying? So, that's why I'm here. And I had to use the restroom. I didn't feel comfortable in my own house, but it's just not here. >> The mother admits to drinking alcohol that day and confirms her driver's license is suspended, further raising safety concerns. Y'all live together? >> No, she stays in Atlanta. She came up here. I was fine. I was fine. >> Does you Does you and your sister normally not talk with each other? >> We don't We don't altercate a lot. We just She just came up here. She said she had to get her tag. I told her, "Okay, I need get me some wings if you want to see your nephew." Mind you, my oldest son when I was going through my number, she was basically his parent, but now I can honestly say I'm the primary caregiver for all of us. But when we was homeless back in the day, did she help? Yes, she did. So, she said she was going to come up here, see him, whatever. Shoot. Like, that's awesome. >> You have the Georgia ID? >> Yes. >> Is that the name on the ID? >> Yes. >> Or do you go you have different name? >> No. >> Why? Cuz you're not coming back. If you got a George ID, then you should come back. >> I should. I mean, what is that? >> That's your That's your actual legal name. >> Yes. >> Do you know your driver's license number? >> No, sir. >> But you do have a driver's license. >> I have a ID. My driver's license isn't valid. >> Is it suspended? >> Yes. I have a breathalyzer in my car that didn't talk to lot. I could get it out. I just kept it in during the summer. I didn't trust myself. I would be honest. >> You got a picture of your questions or anything like that? I don't even have my phone outside. >> Officers interview one of the children who confirms witnessing the mother punch the aunt during the argument >> over here. Ma'am, >> I chose to come here because I didn't want to physically arcate with her. And that's why I'm here. She while I was running away when she was physically coming at me, she called the police. I told her, "Okay, do that." But I came here because I know how we get. We are sisters. We've done this our whole lives. So, nothing physical happened. Is >> that what you're saying? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How much have you had a drink today? >> Um, a bottle of XXL wine. >> Bottle. You finished it yourself? >> No. >> No. >> It's still there. >> But you did drink today, correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. So, nothing physical happened, right? All right. What did she come do over here? >> Well, she followed me and and called the police. >> But what was her business doing at your house? >> Um, she bought me some chicken wings and she wanted to see him. Okay. Cuz she came to see her nephew. Correct. >> Correct. >> And then after that, everything escalated, but nothing physical happened. Right. >> Yeah. I ran away. >> Okay. >> When I tried to go to my car, she ran to my car cuz I really wanted to just sit and chill in my car and then I ran here. >> Okay. You're not in trouble. Okay. I just want to talk to you. I just want to ask you some stuff. What did you see? You're not in trouble. You're good. You're not in trouble. You're good. I just I just wanted to see, you know, cuz they're telling me different stories. So, I wanted to see what you see. I think I believe you more. How old are you? >> Eight. You're eight. What school do you go to? >> You don't know what school you go to. Did you see at the apartment? >> If you don't want to talk to me, you good. Okay. I just That That's your aunt, right? >> What? >> Your aunt? Is she outside? >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's your That's your mom? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. So, what what all did you see? Your mom punched her. >> Why were they fighting? Do you know? >> You fight in the blood. >> So, is that all? Did you see your mom spit on her like in her face? >> No. >> Police determined the children were exposed to domestic violence and unsafe conditions due to intoxication and aggression. >> But you did see her fight. You did see her punch her in the face? >> Yeah. Okay. Are you scared or anything? You're scared? Don't worry. You ain't got to be scared. Okay. Everything's good. >> Yeah. >> They cuss cuz they were just saying bad words. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you, buddy. We can come back over here. >> Do y'all talk a lot normally or is it is this the first time in like how >> No, we've been talking We've been talking for about We've been back in communication for I say about a year or so. But this this is the first time that you've come up and seen them. I'm guessing. >> No, I've seen I just came like two weekends ago. >> Okay. Okay. That's why I'm just trying to get a time. >> I always like cuz I drive with Martyr. I work with Mart Mobility. So I drive for a living. So it's nothing for me to drive an hour. >> I do it all the time. So it's just like I just needed her to come down. That's all. I just need her to be straight. I don't want to have to worry about when I leave what's going to happen, you know? Now, even though when I leave, I'm still not going to let it weigh on me. But, you know, it is going to be a thought because the kids is who I care about. Like, for real, like I think because a lot of stuff they don't deserve. A lot of stuff it's just the hand that's being dealt to them. And >> I just want [ __ ] to work out. That's why I try to be here as much as I can, >> right? >> Cuz they love at especially my oldest. That's all he know is me. I taking care of him. >> When she mentioned that, she said that you was like you did a lot of help with with him when he was younger. She did this right now. >> And it's like I'm young. I'm getting on the bus to go to school. Like literally, I'm having to grow up way faster than any of these kids. These kids are going to prom. These kids doing all of this. And I'm I don't take care of her. >> Older sister. >> Like it don't make no sense. But it's like I don't I don't think that's somebody I used to look up to. Now she's like in ways that she look up to me. Like and I don't like that. Like you know I don't want it to be like that. Although it is like that. I just it's hard like because I don't want it. I just don't want that. Like I'm supposed to be going to my sister house to have a chill night, you know, to you know sit watch TV, whatever it may be. Uh just right now, I just want you to try to, you know, try to breathe a little bit, try to relax for a little bit. All that is over right now. Okay? Now, we're here trying to get you to be straight and them to be straight. Everybody be straight. All right? About to figure out what we're going to do. All right. Is that cool? >> Yeah. I just want her to be all right. >> Yeah. Everything's all right. I mean, you know, she's obviously been drinking. >> The oldest nephew, the tall one, his dad just called. He said >> officers arranged for the children to be released to family members while determining custody and safety plans. >> He's going to come get him. I just need a yes or no. >> The mother is placed under arrest as officers explain mandatory arrest policies related to family violence or >> no. If not, we're calling first. >> Yeah, I trust her. >> She's saying the kids can stay with you. >> I didn't know. >> So, she's going to be taking >> Yes. >> Okay. Oh my god. I'm sorry. She thought the kids could stay with me. Like, I don't have no job. Like, I still get stuck with stuff no matter what. Okay. Um, on what like >> it'll be family violence, battery, and cruel children. >> I wasn't trying to prison. >> Uh, that that's just not how that works. Okay. When it comes to family violence, you don't have >> It's not It's not you. It's the state. We We don't have a choice when it comes to family violence. >> So, it's not you it's not you pressing charges cuz that's the state of Georgia. That's just how family violence works over here. >> So, how Uh, she'd have to see a judge in the little probably tomorrow morning or something. I don't know. I I don't work for the judge, you know. That's just something different. >> It should be tomorrow around 2:00. >> All right. Would you tell me their names for all three kids and their date of birth? >> Yes. >> I'm going to need his weight and stuff for Jeremiah. You know how you know his hot how high he is? You don't know. You know his weight. You know his eye color. >> Um, his eye color is brown. Please don't put my kids in defects. Please, sir. >> White. And then you don't know his white or hat. No. >> Not off the back. >> What about for the younger one? >> No. >> The mother was arrested and charged with battery and three counts of cruelty to children in the third degree after officers determined the children were present during a physical domestic dispute [music] and exposed to unsafe conditions. The children were released to family members while the case proceeds through the court system. Remember substance abuse combined with parenting responsibilities can quickly escalate into dangerous situations for children. Domestic disputes in front of minors may lead to criminal charges regardless of family relationships. This is the reaction of nizens to this situation. Those kids were put in the middle of adult problems they shouldn't have to see. The sister was clearly trying to protect the children, not start a fight. Alcohol and parenting never mix. This could have ended much worse. You think the officers were out of options here?
