Like this. So, like I got to grab it like this? No, don't grab them. >> I'm just saying like if I had like this I would be Yeah. Can you do it for me? Yeah, I know there. She got like little tiny hands. Almost. >> Einstein once said that only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and he wasn't too sure about the universe. Today, we're putting that theory to the test with a lineup of thieves so spectacularly foolish, they just might prove him right all over again. On September 7th, 2023, officers received a call about an active theft at a Target shopping center. The caller reported that a woman was stealing various items throughout the store. As the woman attempted to bypass all point of sale checkpoints, she was apprehended by Target security. Hey stranger. When the officer arrived, asset protection explained that this was not her first incident. She would come two to three times in one day just to steal. However, what the officer didn't know is that she had two more kids she left in a hot car all while she was stealing inside the Target. >> that I have on her, but just dealing with today. Okay. >> Um Miss Latasha, she's more than capable of speaking, but she did let me know that um she's living out of a hotel right now. >> Officers discover she left two more children in a hot car while stealing inside. She admits she is living in a hotel and struggling financially. Mhm. She's having a hard time managing and paying for her stuff. >> relatives or anybody here. She had her mom who was just calling from her from New York, she said. Um Do you want to chat with her? You're more than welcome to. >> I understand. Mhm. I understand. All right, so real quick, um are are going to uh I would like to classify you as a trespasser this incident majority of the time. Yes, she was here last night and she did steal alcohol last night as well. She stole alcohol today, but those are the most like frivolous things I've seen like that. I'm going to start compiling on my end. Um, I'm actually going to uh Do you mind if I take a picture? Oh, sure. Okay. So, this is what um, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to do. Technically, I place you into investigative detention, but since you have your daughter with you, I'm not going to put you in handcuffs right now, okay? Okay. All right. So, I'm Deputy Stringer with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, okay? Um, at this point you are in investigative detention, but for this like I said for the sake of your daughter right now I'm not going to do that, okay? But Officers place her under investigative detention, but avoid handcuffing her immediately due to her children being present. >> the thing, if you try to run out this door I'm not. Yeah, and then we we we're in a whole totally different situation, okay? All right. So, I'm going to go ahead and read you your Miranda right now. They got a baby in the car? No, don't tell Oh, so they have two young kids in the car and a baby in the car. Okay, might as well call DCF. Do you have your ID on you? No. Hold on, give me 1 second. Hey, what's going on? Do you have kids in your car? Mhm. Do you have children in your car? Do you have children in your car? Yes. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, hold on. Let me Give me a second. I'm going to I'm going to read her Miranda. I'll call you back. Okay, bye. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to have an attorney present now or at any time during questioning. If you talk to me, you have the right to stop answering questions or speak to an attorney at any time. Do you understand each of these rights? Yes. Will you talk to me? Yes. Okay. All right, so the incident today what was going on with it? I just I just wanted to leave. This is all posted. Okay. Wake up. Okay. The woman admits she left her 10-year-old, 4-year-old, and 1-year-old in the car. She also acknowledges she has shoplifted from this Target numerous times before. I get it and we all have our hard times. So, but we have a bigger issue right now. How many children are in your car right now? Two kids. What are their ages? 10 and One. One. So, you got a 10-year-old and a 1-year-old in the car. That's it. Okay. All right. And then how old is She's four. Hi. Four. Okay. I thought they were baby babies, like an infant in the car. Okay. That's That's I kind of kind of got me. I'm like, what are we doing? All right. So, have you been here before? Okay. And what what has taken place before? Why you came to this particular Target? There was no particular Target. It's just that my son go to school in the area. So, how many times have you been at this Target right here and stolen items? I don't remember. I'm not sure. >> So, it's just been a a whole bunch of times. Okay. And have your children been present with you while you've done it? Like physically in the store. Maybe. Maybe. Okay. Because that's also a completely different charge. Police explain she faces multiple charges, including committing crimes in front of juveniles, and warn she could be arrested if she returns to Target. Because you are committing a crime in the presence of juveniles. So, I'm not taking the arrest. Somebody else is going to take it. I'm here to pretty much kind of fill in until that person comes. Now, I will whatever it is that you what what you're telling me right now, I will relay it to the arresting deputy, and it'll be up to them what they want to do, okay? But I'm just I'm just letting you know you're you're what you you're pretty much dealing with right now. You're committing a crime in the presence of your children. We're dealing with two different crimes right now, okay? So again, I'mma leave that up to them. Whatever it is that he wants to do with it, then that's him, okay? Oh, what do we think, Mom? Do you have anybody that can come and get them? I'm trying to find somebody, please. I mean, you can give us a second. Again, here's the thing, you you kind of put yourself in a bad situation. I get we and honestly, we all go through trying times, to be honest with you. So am I, okay? But I didn't understand. You get what I'm saying? I mean, I don't want to kind of beat a dead horse. I know. Okay? All right, so All right, so you are trespassing on this particular Target, okay? If you do come back to this Target, you will be subject to arrest, okay? I do have to take a photo of you. Okay. Did you get the vehicle open? I can't just open it. They got the vehicle open. They broke the window. I can't say if they broke it or not, but if your 10-year-old is in the car, pretty sure he open up the door for them. Yes. 4513, that's 10-4. Hey. Hey, so I'mma leave this car open so you So I'mma go ahead and leave this car open. >> Deputies open the car to give the kids fresh air. A relative arrives to pick them up as the woman is taken into custody. >> Open so you guys can get some fresh air, okay? All right. Uh um what's your name? Um And that's your sister or brother? Yeah. How many are in the fifth grade? Yeah. Okay, make sure you guys get in some air conditioning. You see, make sure you guys get some get some bail over there, okay? So, like I said other I'm going to wait for the other deputy to see what he wants to do and then we'll go from there, okay? Target. And Tell me that's cooking. Uh do you have the information if he's picking up the kids or? Yes, I got it. I'll put it in his room. Okay, thank you. You're welcome. Okay. Did you get her? It's right there in the Target. Yes, they're right there. They're by the circle, okay? And they're on their way? Mhm. All right. All right. So, if you want to put your phone in your purse. Okay. Is it possible I can just leave it with them? The purse? Yeah. That's up to you. Yeah, I I trust this person. So, they are taking the stuff? I thought you just told her. No, I told her that they were taking the stuff because I don't know like how this works. I've never been to jail, so I have to take I have I don't know like how long I'm going to be there, so I they need food to eat. >> Okay. You want to stand up? Turn your hands behind your back. Mhm. Okay. Hey, how you doing? I'm just coming to pick up the kids. You are? Yeah, I'm the dad. What's your name? Sorry? Your name? Yeah. Okay, can you tell me what happened? Um yeah, if you want to close the door. Yeah. So, their mom got caught stealing out of there. And so, she's gone to jail. No, that's the stealing? Yeah. What what Now, when you say stealing, that's a what we I don't know exactly what she took or what she I don't know. And of course, this isn't the first time. So, you know, she Loss prevention confirms she has been caught stealing at least seven prior times, though she's being charged only for this incident. So, let me call you right back. Let me call you right back. Let me ask a question. Um Is there like bail or anything like that? Yeah, it's probably depend on what it is. As of right now, it's probably $500. It could be more. Um I don't know. She have a photo of license? Is it possible I pay that now? No, you won't be able You know, it'll take time. Time. Um They go out to loss prevention officer. How are you related to the subject? Yes. That's the dad. This is all the stuff that she actually paid for. She didn't want to refund it. She said that she would like for it to go with you guys to the baby food. Some of it is frozen. >> Now, let me ask a question. What like This is what she stole? No. What did she steal? She actually she actually asked us if we could not disclose information to whoever was coming to pick up. Um it it will obviously be public record, and you'll be able to see it anyway. Um but this is I would say this isn't the first time. No, she's never did this before. I'm saying this isn't the first time at the store. I'm telling you it's not. That she did this? She's done this many times. I have documented incidents on I think probably seven or so. But I'm only charging her for the one today. I will say that >> She has children in the car. That's what I'm saying. >> Absolutely. I told them that. We we knew that she had children in the car before we even stopped her. So, she's She just She just didn't pay for some stuff, but I don't know. Well, what's in that pocket right there? Uh it's a pen. The pen? Yeah. Walk you this way real fast. All right. You want to go in there and grab it? Okay. All right. Yeah, we were talking. So, I'm just going to take you right out. Oh, anything else you have on you that's introduced into the jail is going to be an Officers warn her about introducing contraband into jail. Final charges include grand theft and committing a crime in the presence of minors. >> Anything else you understand? Anything what? Anything else on you? Any other contraband? Drugs, knives, guns, anything like that? Any kind of substance? >> No, I don't have any contraband. Okay, we're just explaining that if you introduce it into the jail after this point, it is introduction of contraband. Okay, I don't Okay. I don't have anything. Okay. Despite the seriousness, she receives only 3 months of probation. Leaving children in danger while committing crimes only adds to the harm and consequences. Desperation is never an excuse. Poor choices today can destroy trust and future opportunities. If not the craziest incident you can see, the next case even more. The officer stops a woman outside Target noticing an item in her pocket. She denies having anything. Who is it? It's a system. Oh. Excuse me, ma'am. Can you stop for me? Yeah, I don't have anything. Okay, hold on. We'll be It's right there in her pocket. What's going on? It's a I don't know. She conceal anything over there in GM side. Okay. What do you have in your pocket? >> Nothing. Okay. Can we go ahead and talk inside real quick? No, why? This is Well, you're being detained for shoplifting right now. But I'm not shoplifting. >> Loss prevention reports she concealed a portable charger and lighters. She denies shoplifting and calls it harassment. >> shoplift anything. Okay. Well, loss prevention witnessed you concealing item and placing item in your pocket. So, that's what we're dealing with right now. Okay. This is like [ __ ] harassment, man. All right. Come right over here, ma'am. You can come right over here. May I have you speak with this officer right here? What is it that she concealed? Uh portable charger from electronics and then she also had a pair of lighters. Okay. And you said it's in her In her pocket, right? You can see it right down in there. Okay. Um would you mind getting us the receipt for that? Yeah. All right. Thank you. My mistake. What's in the other pocket? And they also said some lighters. Officers question her further about other concealed items. She continues to deny having more. >> Conceal some lighters in your pocket? >> No, I didn't. She said she just said you took the lighter. What's in What's in this pocket over here? I don't have anything in my pocket. There's something sticking out of there now. In your pants as well. Small world. Can I just go, please? Who is going to get the Are you sleeping over? Have you ever been arrested? Yes. When was the last time you were arrested? Um, a few months ago. She admits forgetting to pay for straws and claims police wouldn't take her in if she didn't have warrants. I didn't have any and I didn't have a warrant and I didn't have a warrant. We got a warrant for that. So now I know you're here. Or like, if you do have a warrant, I'll take you in. We're not going to find anything on your person, so you're getting more trouble, aren't you? I didn't see anything in your hand. Do you have a white paper? What kind of paraphernalia do I have? What? What kind of paraphernalia do I have? Oh, okay. You need to pay for the straws. Harm No, I just want to have my [ __ ] vape one more time. Okay, that's fine. Uh 61. Nice. I think that's cool. Is there anything tucked anywhere? No. No. Where's your glasses? All right, we're all set. Yeah, but the I could go right ahead and get my wallet real quick. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, logging in right now. Officers secure her, conclude the investigation, and prepare for next steps. I'll just bring it over here real quick. Perfect. Good job. She was charged with retail theft shoplifting. What's the On March 14th, 2024, officers were dispatched to a local Target for an active shoplifting incident involving a known repeat offender. Upon arrival, they headed straight to the security room where the suspect was still on the floor attempting to steal merchandise. So, I don't know if they did both, but you guys usually do all Channel County Targets. Uh it has to be who is specifically. Yeah, so she's probably banned from them and that's where they got all her info. Okay. And we just think it's this one. This one. Yeah, well let's let's keep an eye on her and see if Yeah, she was in here and we think she's stealing even though that's not her. She was in here yesterday doing the same. I'm just sick of her ass, to be honest. Cuz when they go in the fitting room or like we can't Yeah, you can't really see anything. Yeah, so hopefully her bag is full. And she like will double up this was her bag yesterday. Did she steal anything yesterday? I don't know. It's about watching her more than anything. Yeah, she was looking real hard. But she'll like double select like she'll get like three pairs of men's pants, two of the same shirt, two of the same purse, so that when she leaves the basket it looks like she left everything behind. Mhm. But she never pays for anything. Yeah, this is definitely hers. This she had the same phone, too. So, she's probably stuffing her bag. And she's in there now? >> the fitting room. Mhm. Will he be able to slip out without her seeing him? Yeah. Go fast. Go super fast. Go so fast, it's crazy. You going to bring the ABC in here? Grab a band for him and an A&B. Yeah. Is that her? Yeah, but she's just coming out and she'll swap like a size out. So, she might actually be trying to do good, but Looks like a pink and a purple something. Yeah, but she keeps coming out and swapping those sizes. So, also that tells me that she plans on actually taking something today and I know she ain't buying it. Cuz she keeps actually trying it on. Mhm. She wants it. And she's not going to buy She stopped right outside the doors, caught red-handed with the stolen merchandise. Whatever excuses she had prepared instantly fell flat as officers escorted her back inside for questioning. She just came out and grabbed more stuff. All right, so her bag She's coming out. Her bag is yeah. Did she just dump all that stuff in there? Well, she left the hand basket, so her bag is full. So, I'm comfortable with that. You're stopping her? Well, you're stopping her, but yes. You were stopping her from the theft, yes. Okay. She's on her way out. Hey, miss. Come on. Ma'am. Come here. Come here. Come here. What? Yo. Come here. Hey, stop. What's going on? Oh. My Back up. My head's spinning. EMS is on the route. How is this going to end? I'm just saying call my kids. EMS is on the route. Okay. I can call my kids real quick. Uh no, not right now. Ma'am, sit up in the chair. Instead of arguing or explaining herself, the suspect suddenly drops to the ground and plays the victim, hoping pity will save her. But officers aren't fooled, her act only makes the situation more ridiculous. Ma'am. That's a very controlled fall. Ma'am. Turn over on your side. Turn over on your side. Get on your side. Get on your side. Get on your side. If you're going to play this, ma'am. Just get on your side. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ms. Jackson. Ms. Jackson. Listen. EMS is coming. You want to put the cuffs to the front and you just stay still. Put your hands in the front. Roll over this way. Even with the cuffs moved for her comfort, she doesn't let up on the performance. Now, it's up to EMS to separate fact from fiction, whether she's truly unwell or just putting on a show to dodge accountability. We're going to move your handcuffs to the front. You want to sit up? Come. Sit up. Sit up. Hang on. Ms. Jackson. Just let it be. So, just take the cuffs off, please. Ms. Jackson, do you want an ice pack for your head? Huh? You want to get back in the chair now? Huh? And she said her head was pounding and then she sat down in the chair in there and then fell very controlled manner. Fell out of the chair and then started having what looked like a seizure on the floor. But if I'm not mistaken, if you have a head, doesn't you wouldn't you immediately have that reaction. Okay. Sometimes it's slow. She's right here. Oh. Yeah. What's going on? Hey. What's going on? All right, well we're going to try to get you set up. Oh. Can you sit up for us? I'm scared. We'll sit up for Scared. What are you scared of? Of my head. Straighten this leg out. All right, let's check your head out. Watch out. Did she hit her head all the way like she lost consciousness? Where did she hit her head on the concrete outside? That's what I At the hospital, her performance reaches new heights, groaning, exaggerating, and insisting she's too unwell to be held accountable. But officers know the drill, medical clearance first, then straight to booking. Ain't nobody told me otherwise. My head not spinning, my shoulder not hurting, my back not hurting. They ain't got to tell me that. I already know that. Y'all trying to be rude to me cuz I'm black. Cuz I'm black, that's why. How she going to tell me that I'm stealing? We'll get this paperwork from them and we got to take her to Memorial cuz they'll give us a medical clearance. What? She's in a refused treatment over there, too? >> That doesn't matter. If you if you wanted to run, it's a misdemeanor it's a misdemeanor amount, okay? Maybe if you would have talked to you, you would have been released on a subpoena. >> Yeah. We wouldn't even took you to jail. You have to You never told me what you were getting me for. You know what what we were getting you for. >> now. But the officers don't budge. Her history as a repeat offender speaks louder than her excuses and her attempts to flip the script only dig her deeper into trouble. >> camera. >> Okay. I'm not going to You know what you did. We're not going to play games. >> No, you're right. I'm wrong for stealing. Absolutely. I am. And you're also wrong for pulling away. That is why I I tripped you, okay? You're bigger than I. You were pulling away. You were doing a good job at that. So. You're still blaming everybody else. Take responsibility for what you did and that's it. So, and I apologize that you hit your head, okay? I am wrong. I shouldn't have stole. I should not have. >> And you shouldn't have tried to run away. >> petty about it. I'm being serious. Okay. So, then what I recommend is that you let these people do their job and look at your head to make sure there's no underlying conditions and then we can go through the process. Regardless, ma'am, we're just going to take you to another hospital. We have to get you looked at. >> want treatment. That's what I'm telling you. I don't want treatment. I already know I already know that I'm in pain and I'm hurting. Well, they can they can help you with that. No, I don't I don't take medicine. All right. I I completely understand, ma'am, but either way we got to get you medical clearance and then take you to see CDC to get the process started. Or get the process Like I said, it's two misdemeanor charges. You're eligible for bail. You don't have to go before a judge. Okay, so just let these people do their job and then let us do ours. >> Sir, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to make your job harder at this point. It It seems like the opposite. >> No, I'm not kidding. I promise you from the bottom of my heart and I'm not being a telling you that I don't want treatment. I'm telling you >> Okay, and that's fine and that's fine. That's your choice. Okay, but all this because you're a different color than me and this is all this other stuff, that's nonsense. Cuz y'all saying it now. It's not because you're talking nonsense. >> y'all smoking and drinking and [ __ ] At this point, it's clear she's more focused on playing the victim than facing reality. Yet, no amount of complaining will erase the fact that she was caught red-handed. I can't I'm a minority, too. I can't be racist. I don't want treatment. That's what I'm telling you. So, that's your choice. You let them know that. I told them already. I don't want treatment. But, at the end of the day you're still going to jail. That's fine. Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to stand up. I'm telling you that I don't want treatment. I know that I'm hurting. They can't tell me otherwise. Okay, ma'am. My shoulder is dangling and it's Which is why we put the cuffs to the front. It's not about the handcuffs. That's not what it came from. My pain is running from my head to my neck to my shoulder. If it's anything other than what this, I don't want to hear about it. All right, this is this is what's going on right now, okay? You're in the hospital, you're going to jail for shoplifting. That's it. You will get a phone call when you get to the jail. We tried to call twice, nobody answered. All right? Let's be a big girl and deal with your consequences. Yeah, we don't need to do it more, right? >> No, I didn't. I just called the jail. All right, she got two warrants here, right? Oh, she's got What's two? Okay, well then you're not going to get bailed. You said I'm not? One from the pooler and then one from Chatham County. So, she'll already be over there. Same thing, shoplifting. Her persistence might be impressive, but it's pointless. The combination of video evidence, eyewitness accounts, and her prior record leaves her with no room to escape the charges this time. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. What store? Shoplifting, the same thing. >> you're under arrest for now. I understand that, but I don't know where where I got it from. It doesn't say it doesn't say what store. I'm going to make it real simple for you. And you don't get away with shoplifting anymore. Do you know how many cameras are in all these stores? >> I haven't even been there. All right, ma'am. They they your your face, your name is already identified and it's been passed all through the state of Georgia. Every store has your picture in a database. Date of birth is going to be And you shoplift from them. Put it in a database and put a warrant for your arrest. That's why that's like that. You didn't get away with it, you just thought you did cuz you got to leave the the store that day with the merchandise. You're going to have a hold on you. You're not going to get In the end, all her stalling and excuses didn't change a thing. She still walked away with charges for shoplifting and obstruction. No amount of excuses or fake illnesses can erase hard evidence. When you break the law, accountability always catches up. If you like this video, please sign up for Law Zone to receive more. Look out for the next shoplifter who will react even more aggressively. These end up in your purse. I was going to be walking with my wallet like this. So, I I had it like this. No, don't grab one. >> I don't know. I'm just saying like if I had it like this I would On March 1st, 2025, officers responded to a retail theft at Walmart and spotted a man and woman who looked like they were in mid Walmart Olympics. The cops stopped them and politely escorted them back inside for a little receipt review. >> It's okay. Let's walk back inside. Let's walk back inside, okay? Walk right back inside. You guys can just wait. It's 2:15. We'll be out with you. We just got to verify something, okay? We're going to walk over here to the corner. Do you The suspects swore they paid in cash because apparently cash makes everything legit and let the officers check their bags and purses while carefully dodging certain questions like they were on a game show. >> Card declined or something? No. We paid cash. >> You guys paid cash? Okay. Just Just stay right Stay right here, okay? Are these the receipts? Yeah. Okay. Do you have any weapons on you? No. Okay. Can I just make sure you don't have any weapons on you? Here's the receipt. I'll take this. We'll search you later. Turn around. What do you got in here? Do you mind if I look? Don't reach. Don't Don't reach. All right. You got your wallet on you or anything? All right. Can I have your ID? Keep holding that for me. Where are you guys from, around here? I'm from Algonquin. Let's go to the LP office, okay? I'll I'll I'll take the cart. >> Okay. Okay. So, you had your own handheld basket? >> Yeah, and then once it got like full cuz it was full there in it. Okay. And then he just took the basket and threw it in the cart. Okay. So, who put the the purse in in the cart? It would have been you. I had the basket, but like I >> Was it in your basket first, though? Ma'am, is there any like counter or anything from the store in your purse here? No. >> can I just check? >> The woman wasn't thrilled about a full purse search, but admitted some things were from Walmart, just already paid for or from somewhere else. Basically, the classic "These aren't the droids you're looking for" defense. >> Don't Don't reach. Do you mind if I check? I was going to say, yeah, don't mind. I was going to say Ma'am, can you just show me that there's nothing from I was going to say, there's really nothing in here. Why why can't I check the rest of this purse? Cuz I mean, I just don't see the really need necessary >> to make I want If you're saying you didn't steal anything the only way for me to prove that >> This is theirs. This is This is theirs? Yeah, but that's about That's it. Okay, I need to verify there's nothing else in there that belongs to the store. So, I need to search this purse. That's what I'm saying. No, I'm telling you like I'll I'll give you everything that's in there. Okay, can you show me? Yeah, I'm going to say, here's this. I'm giving >> This is from there, too? Yeah, but that's That's it. This is mine. >> Why was this in your purse? I had it in my hand with my wallet. Okay, did you pay for this? Okay. So, other than that, like I'm telling you everything else that's in here is mine. All right, can you start pulling stuff out and putting it on here, then, if you're saying there's nothing else in there? I'm saying my bag. See that? This is mine. That's yours? This is not from Walmart? It's from our Walmart, but it's the one I walked in with. You paid for it? I walked in with, yeah. There's that. Here's this. So, everything else is like basically cards, cigarettes, Orbeez, Orbeez, keys. They don't know. She kept pulling out random purse items like a magician doing a hat trick, insisting each was from a previous shopping trip. The officers, however, were less impressed and more interested in why the timeline didn't add up. Can you open this up? What is that right there? What's that right there? Can you pull that out? When you purchase this, do you have a receipt for this? All right, stop reaching in your purse. Take this out. I'm not going to look into it, but stop reaching for stuff. Take this out and just put it on the ground. How much did you pay for this? 59? So, walk me through what happened today. Who put what in the cart? The woman said she and her companion split payment at self checkout, denying any skip scanning and claiming she just liked storing items in her purse while shopping because who needs a cart when you've got a Gucci tote? Handheld basket? And then, did you Who paid for what? Who paid for what? Okay. All right, be honest with me cuz they have cameras on each of those self-checkout registers. When we watch the video footage, am I going to see you skip scanning any product, anything? To which guy? The the one that was standing >> Yeah, the worker. Okay. And then how did these end up in your purse? I was going to be walking with my wallet like this. So, like I had it like this. No, don't grab it. >> I know, I'm just saying like if I had it like this, I was walking like that. >> put these in your purse and walked out. >> all of this like that. Why did I didn't really say. >> this stuff? The makeup aisle. Okay. I wasn't even like Yeah, I couldn't even feel it when I'm like sitting like this. Okay. You can't feel all that. But I was just saying It's like five, six dollars. Did you put it this stuff in your purse, the bad stuff, right after you picked it up the off the aisle or when you're walking out? When I was in the aisle. In aisle, okay. I'm pretty sure. Okay. Can you stay here with Officer Wolbright for a second? What's that? If you go to the towel aisle right now Yeah. >> I guarantee the package for that cord he shoved up in there. And is the cord he was concealing in your guys's cart? Uh-huh. I guarantee it because Officers suspected a product box had been hidden. Walmart staff suspected skip scanning and confirmed they were missing items. >> I was holding it up in the towel towel aisle like, "Oh, I don't want this anymore." And it looks like a box. So, you saw him conceal it. >> I didn't think it was a I thought he just threw the box there because I got to walk this aisle to throw it in the trash and then leave. So, where did you Where did you get this from? Walkie-talkie. Walkie-talkie, how about this? Walkie-talkie, Walmart. Okay. And those two things that you gave to me earlier you said you took it What else did you take? Cuz Walmart is saying that you skip scanned. They're pulling it up right now. They're saying you skip scanned. What did I skip scan? That's what we're getting all that information now. At the minimum you took those two things. Not a big deal, but we got to go through all that stuff. So, hang out here with Officer Wolbright, and I'll I'll be right back. Okay. Charles, right? Do you go by Charlie? Yeah, Charlie's fine. Charlie, okay. I know you've been asked a lot of questions, but here's your opportunity to just be straight with us. Just let me know what happened today, who took what, and what exactly happened. The man then dropped the bomb. He'd removed phone chargers from their boxes in the store and stuffed them in his pocket, tossing the empty boxes away because in his mind, the woman would totally cover for him. Just the phone chargers, but I thought they were going to be I already paid for them. So, that might have been my honest mistake. As far as everything else in the cart, I was just a guy. I was just standing there. The phone chargers? Yeah. The packaged phone chargers or the unpackaged one? The packaged ones. The ones that were in there. The blue ones? Yeah. I think they're still on the Okay. So, how how did they come undone? Like they I opened them because I was going to see if they fit the phone. When did you open them? In the store. But, I thought she was going to take care of paying them. Okay. That doesn't really make sense to me. If you're going to pay for Where's the Where's the package? If you want I just threw it cuz I'm lazy. I didn't want to Threw it where? I just put it on the shelf, but I thought she had another one so we could scan two. How do you think the store was going to figure out how much these were if you didn't have the package? Cuz I was going to have I thought that I had another box in here. Okay. So, you're telling me you took off the package. Where did you hold these? Where were these at? They were in my pocket. I was checking them on my phone. Okay. Do you see how this looks looks to us? >> Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. I'll pay for I will pay for anything. Why Why did you put this Why did you put this in your in your pocket here? Cuz I thought it was already paid for. At what point did you put it in your pocket? When I was walking in the store cuz I thought she >> Out or in? No, it was in the store. You were walking in the store and you concealed these in your pocket. Yes. >> Yeah. Okay. At any point did you take these out of your pocket at the register? No, I thought the box was in here still cuz I thought I had put one box in here. To scan two of them. Okay. But, you threw But, you earlier you said you threw it >> did throw it on the shelf cuz I was like, "Guys, I want to be lazy." But, like I said, I They explained their divide and conquer strategy. Split up, unbox things, hide some in the cart, some in his sweatshirt, and meet at self-checkout for the grand finale. >> I thought the other [ __ ] was at the bottom I didn't know that that was not scanned. They said you could look at the scanner I was just standing there but I'll pay for whatever is not paid for. So we're a little bit past that point. Um And you guys are getting the total. Um so just to make sure I understand it right you and Devon came to the store together who drove? Devon? Devon. Okay, is her car out there? Yeah. Is there anybody else out in the car? What type of car is it? What color is it? Gray. Do you have a license plate off hand? No. Okay. So you guys come to the store together what are you trying to get? Like I just came here for my phone and I seen a jacket and I was like okay I'll get the jacket. Are you guys going around the store together or are you guys just going separate ways? Uh kind of like half and half. Half and half? Okay. Don't Don't answer that right now I got to talk to You're fine. Okay. So you're in the store who picked up these from the shelves? Who when they were boxed? I did. You did? Yeah. Okay. And then you said you unpackaged both of them? Yeah and then I thought I threw one of the boxes in the truck in the cart. Okay and you put the other box on the shelf somewhere. But I thought I threw one in the cart and scanned And then these ended up inside your sweatshirt. Yeah. Correct? Okay. And you're claiming you thought she was going to pay for them. Yeah cuz like I said I don't want to do I come in here shop a lot too and I know that I don't steal. Okay. Okay. And this is all the stuff that isn't not paid for. Okay. Who submitted payment into these into the self-checkout? She did. I just gave her I gave her 80 bucks for a Walmart's ring. Walmart's cameras caught it all. $91.86 worth of unpaid goodies. Both had walked in together, shopped like pros, and checked out like amateurs. You know we were going to pay for the Christmas thing and I gave her 88 dollars cash. You gave her 88 dollars in cash? Yeah cuz there There 80 and then she put her cash in and there was still like seven something 863 left. You guys both came into the store together. You're telling me you concealed these in your I know you're saying you just did you wanted to pay but you concealed these in your jacket. Walmart's has video footage and they're showing us that $91 and 86 cents worth of stuff was not paid for. Okay. So at this time you both are going to be placed under arrest for retail theft. We're going to go back to the police department, do some processing and we'll figure it out from there, okay? So The dynamic duo was arrested for retail theft and taken to the police station for processing where the only free merchandise was the mug shots. Crime at Walmart might seem small but it still lands you in handcuffs. Honesty is cheaper than a $91 theft charge. All right, let's move to this next case where things might get even messier. Okay. These are These are the person that reported the the the thing, okay? So I'm going to give this back to her. She's going to On June 14th, 2024, a woman at Dolphin Mall realizes her keys, wallet, cash, and cards have vanished. Then you call family or friend to go downtown and pay the bond and then you guys can get released from the station, but it's going to be a waiting process, okay? If you've never been arrested before and that's true. Thank you. What's that? No, you can't you can't pay for yourself while you're being in the jail. Like it's not possible. This is also hers? I know your hand will probably come out of there. But do me a favor, okay, so I don't have to lock those down any tighter. Cuz you got little bitty hands. Don't just don't slip them around, okay? You good? All right. I figured you'd be hating on people that were taller than you, not the ones that were like actually shorter. Like I hate on you. The officers kept the mood light, though the girls didn't seem amused. The tall cop even offered some fatherly advice before they were taken in. I ain't hey. I ain't saying you're guilty of anything. That's up to a a jury. But really? Huh? Hang on. Something freaking rolling around over here. I can't hear anything. Say again? You told us how all this works. Oh, sure. So, what's going to happen is we're going to take you over here to our jail, book you in on the charge of theft. And then they're going to do the charges and to them kind of like an email to the DA's office. And then from there we wait for the DA to send back saying what your bond is going to be. >> warned them that even with a small bond, the arrest could take 8 to 12 hours. I just didn't know if I got if actually could or could not. I told her when I put her in, I said, "You probably slide your hands out of there, but don't do that." Well, it'd make me look bad. They don't have to spend time in a courtroom any much longer than what they have to to get it resolved. Turn this heat back off for me. Um So, basically if y'all go in there basically ask for it, chances are they're going to approve it just for the mere fact you haven't you all haven't been in any trouble, okay? We haven't been. Yeah. So, this way it'll show you were arrested, okay? But, it'll never show a conviction on you. So, anyway, what I was explaining to you is they put you on like a probation, okay? However long the probation is, it could be 60 days, it could be 160 days, okay? At that point, I mean, it could be longer. I'm just saying, you know, just a varied time frame. But, at that point they'll tell you as long as you don't screw up during your probation, you do what the the terms and conditions of your probation is, and you pay for your court costs, after your probationary period, it never gets filed with the state as far as If they finish probation, they can hire a lawyer to expunge the arrest record, wiping it clean. Lesson learned, don't drink, don't steal. And if you do, at least be smart enough to fix your mistake.
