So, here's what's going to happen. >> We're sitting here. >> I'm going to take this down. It's all on video. So, >> what are you? >> All right. Sorry about that. >> If that's okay, put the water down. Here you go, offic Bomb. Will you hold that? The officer asks for receipts, offers a chance to pay, but clarifies they're still being detained while paperwork and checks are done. >> All right, put your hand behind your back right now. >> How you doing? >> Hey. >> Hello. I'm sorry, you guys. >> That's okay. Nothing personal. >> Yep. >> Thank you. >> I'm going to go get a receipt. >> Receipt. Can I just >> Oh, we'll work on that right now. Like I said, you're just being detained right now. >> They're escorted toward the security office. The officer says he'll run criminal history checks and notes one woman's name, Betty Renwick. >> Okay. >> 41. Do you any further? If not, I'll start. >> No, we're good. >> Did work. All right. We're going to walk towards the security office. Okay. Betty Renwick [Music] say >> we'll deal with that after we do some paperwork. >> Oh [ __ ] Can you just ask >> right in this other door over here? >> No, they're not. >> No, I'm saying we're just Why not? >> Have you ever been arrested for shoplifting? >> No. >> Never? >> No. >> All right. Central go over ahead and run a criminal history on her also. It >> was funny cuz I was going to go to the other door, but I was going to cut inside, but I noticed I didn't have my handcuffs, so I had to come out my car to get it and I was like, "There she is right there." Cuz we couldn't find her on the camera. >> Well, like I said, we got to do this paperwork. >> Unfortunately, you got a pot in here, so it's tying up three units. So, we got to get the fab. >> I got to wait. >> Not your partner. Just somebody else will shop with him at some time. [Music] [Music] >> Somebody. >> Who is this? >> Excuse us, young ladies. >> Love you. >> All right, we're going to move this bag and have you sit right here. Okay. All right, have a seat. Good thing I didn't didn't have my handcuffs on me cuz I was going to go that way and I was like, "Oh, I don't have handcuffs." So, I had to go in my car to get up there. She literally just passed my car. I'm like, "Hey, I noticed that emblem." >> Hi. >> Huh? Have we >> have we searched her there also? >> I have not. How did you do that? >> The officer conducts a pat down and places handcuffs on one woman for safety. Explains detention versus arrest and that a firsttime offender may only get a ticket and go home. >> Lady, will you stand up for me real fast? Just cuz I don't like you're not handcuffed and I want to make sure you don't have a weapon. So, >> turn around for me. Don't fall, please. No, man. Your feet for me. >> Let's handcuff her until we're decide to release her. >> Keep it st Keep it standard. You're not arrest. We're just detaining cuz I detained her. So, I'm going to detain you, too. >> Fair is only fair. >> Do you have a receipt >> for the clothes? Can we just borrow? >> Nope. Yeah, that's not working. >> Nope. Not at this moment. >> Okay. >> Not at this moment. >> Once we're done. I told you. >> We never said you were under arrest. You're going to eventually go home. >> Well, thank you. >> You haven't done this before. >> The officer issues a stern warning about repeat offenses and discusses discovering prior records for one suspect, implying different outcomes for each. >> What I'm going to do is I'm going to grab your stuff. We can just walk out the door >> and leave these guys to do what they need to do. >> She'll get you to sign everything. That way we have a little more room in here. >> And this is your one life warning. >> The second one you go to jail. >> If you keep doing it, your fourth one is a felony. >> No matter if it's a dollar candy. All right. So, the truth. No, not the truth. >> So, I got told by my bad guy earlier that I did a good job cuz he was funny. He kept he was giving false name. I knew that, you know. I thought, "Bro, they ain't coming back." That's like, "So, your license is Alabama." Alabama. >> North Carolina. Oh, okay. Cool. Right now, North Carolina. Nope. Not coming back. So, I said I kept going. Kept going. Yeah. I was like, "You got a wallet, honey?" Nope. It's in my brother's truck. That's strange. People normally guys normally carry a wallet. How about you stand up? Let me patch your pocket. Oh, there's my wallet. No, I don't know. So, long story short, we find out who he is. And I'm telling Jazz, cuz Jazz is a trainee, right? I'm like, "Look, if they tell you they got a license, they tell you they've been to jail, they're going to have a return." The bad guy looks at Jazz and goes, "He's right. So, you did a good job. You did a real good job." Thanks, man. >> Bro, why you going to lie? >> I I knew her name. She's been arrested a lot for shopping. >> You've been convicted. >> Been arrested. >> All right. How many we got? Let's see. >> Two were dispensed already. >> Okay. Well, it don't matter if you going to take me to jail. >> Well, it depends on the difference between felony and >> we have to read it. >> No, [ __ ] you. Don't if you going to take me to jail. >> Literally do. >> Okay. Well, that's fine. Conversation reveals one suspect has prior convictions and worries about being taken to jail. The other appears likely to be released after paperwork. >> You taking this one? >> Let's go then. Hold on. I want to Oh, wait. Hold on. >> I tell you what, go put her in the car. >> Hold on. Stay here and we can do the >> We can walk out. [Music] Did you already get the step? >> Oh, yeah. We got that. >> Hey, boo. >> What's up? >> Sweet. I'm at Walmart. >> We had one and then when we're in here, they had another one in progress. [Music] Officers handle case logistics, vehicle availability, case number, paperwork, and finish by instructing suspects how to stand and proceed. Final lines reference custody procedures and case processing. >> And for having cages, sergeants, technically, we're supposed to have them, but until we get more cars, we're driving that. And they got a bunch of SUVs in, but it's taken so long to outfit them. They gave the SUVs to the captains, the ones that aren't outfitted yet. >> So, at least they're trying. You know what I'm saying? [Music] >> What do you need to do? Like I said, >> I just need all of her information and >> Oh, okay. >> the case number. >> Okay. Well, you should have done that when I had my computer. Emily B. I love the [Music] [Music] 74. air. [Music] >> Hello. >> Both women were detained on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart. Arrested for shoplifting, possibly facing a felony due to prior convictions. Every choice has a cost. Honesty keeps you free. Steal once, lose trust, steal again, lose freedom. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. >> I was helping them put stuff. >> I got other stuff in there, too. Can I go get it? I'm not going to do nothing. >> Just stay here. It's all right. We're in where? On August 29th, 2024, officers located a shoplifter who was unaware that the stolen merchandise was equipped with tracking devices. This is footage of the events that followed. >> You look at the silver beater, don't How's it going, guys? >> You guys know whose car this is? >> No. >> Not associated. >> No. >> Okay, cool. you with the chain. Come here. Me? >> Yeah. You got ID on you? >> Huh? >> You got ID? >> ID? >> ID? >> Not. >> What's your name? >> The suspect claims the car belongs to his brother or a friend and denies knowing about the stolen jeans clearly visible in the back seat. >> Friend's car that I've been using. >> Okay. So, you've been driving this car? >> Not really, but I just picked it up today. >> Okay. From where? Um, my brother house. >> Your brother's house. All right. Where's that at? >> Come on over here. I want to separate yourself from from these people. Come on over here. >> What's going on? >> So, right now we're like I said, we're investigating. Come over here to the curb, man. Come over here to the curb. >> Come on. You're being you're being cool with us. You're being cool with us and everything right now. Clearly, there's there we're we're investigating crime. Okay. There's a bunch of stolen jeans in the back of that car. Clearly, you can see it. You can see those tags. Police explained the items were tracked using security devices that pinpointed the car's location. They also mentioned that surveillance footage shows the suspect's faces. >> Got it back from the dude. >> Gotcha. >> And then I just use it every once in a while and then I let my bro use it. >> Okay. >> For the past two days. >> Gotcha. Okay. So, you have been driving around this car? >> No. >> Okay. All right. So, yesterday >> yesterday was my first day. I didn't have the car yesterday. >> Okay. And cool. Um, so again, what we're investigating right now is nothing major, dude. Okay. Somebody shoplifted. Okay. When they shoplifted, they shoplifted a bunch of stuff that has some tracking tags on it. Okay. >> I noticed those in the back. Yeah. >> Yeah. They got a bunch of tracking stuff to it. It tracks. The security department notifies, hey, it's here. >> This is here. Um, I was >> After repeated questioning, the man admits being in the car during the shoplifting, but initially denies stealing anything himself. Officers detain him for further investigation. over real quick. Okay, I'm going to start over because you've been you seem like you're being chill with me and I'm trying to be chill with you. Okay, so I'm going to ask you again. Are we going to see you on these cameras? >> No. >> Okay. Are you going to be in the car? >> No. >> Well, don't don't lie to me. We're here for shoplifting stuff. Okay. If you make it more than that, then it's more than that. Okay. Were you in Were you in the car when they shoplifted? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Gotcha. Okay, cool. Who stole the pants? Who are we going to see on camera? Cuz now we got the car. We got it associated, but now we have you associated with stolen property. So at this time, you're detained, not free to leave, okay? Cuz we're going to figure this out. >> The suspect is read his Miranda rights and acknowledges understanding them. He estimates about 10 to 12 pairs of jeans are in the car. >> Arrest, okay? But because you're not free to leave. All right. So at this time, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right this time to a lawyer. Have present with you while you be questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you for questioning. If you wish, you can decide anytime to exercise these rights and not answer any questions, making statements. Okay. Do you understand the rights? I've read you. >> Cool. How many pairs of pants do you think are back there? >> Not too sure. Probably 10, 11, 12. I don't know. >> Do you have the keys to this car? >> Okay. He finally confesses to participating in the theft, saying his friend, known only as poetic, told him to grab several pairs of jeans and run out of the store. >> Someone told us to go to the store to get to the stuff. >> Okay. Just do a little grab and run. Just grab some handfuls and run out. I got you. >> The other guy put on stuff. >> They put on some things while he was in the store, too. Okay, I got you. So, did you have any active participation? Were you holding jeans when you left the store? And like I said, if if if you lie to me, I'm just all I got to do is look at the camera when I get back and see exactly what it was. Okay. So, did you steal these jeans, too? Okay, I got you. All right. What' you do? Tell Tell me Tell me what happened in the store so I can know your statement. >> He walked around and then took the jeans. He put on stuff. >> Okay. >> Then he put on a couple of jackets and then he told me to grab the jeans. Nice. Okay, I got you. >> How many pairs did you say you grab? >> Officers locate the tracker, noting it's worth more than the jeans themselves, valued at a few,000. The total theft amount increases because of this. >> Okay. Uh, you got the keys on you for this car? >> I think it Where are the keys at? >> I was when I was helping them. I put it probably on the car somewhere. >> Okay. You think we weren going to talk to you, so you just ditch the keys real quick? No, I just I was helping to put stuff up. Other stuff's in there, too. If I go get it, I'm not going to do nothing. >> Just stay here. It's all right. Where in Where in this car do the keys? >> It's right on the seat over there. >> All right. You want to go see if you can >> Can you get the keys off the seat, please? >> Oh, there you go. >> They're on this passenger seat by where >> they know what's going on. >> Are they family? They friends? >> It's like my mom right there. Okay, I got you. Where are you staying right now? I'm with them and like my job cuz I'm in school and stuff and I like mom and dad. [Music] >> She going to hang out for a second. I'm going to talk. >> No, you're good. >> I have school tomorrow. All right. Um, so can you do me a favor? You you have permission to to go in the car? >> Uh, yeah. All right. Um, >> can you don't go in the car, but can you just go over to the car? He's going to chirp the the tracker real quick. We just want to make sure it's in there cuz that's the most expensive thing. >> What was that? >> Don't go in the car. >> Oh, just listen to the tracker. >> [ __ ] chirp. Should chirp three times and then pause and then three and then pause. Otherwise, you said it'll chirp for the next like 10 minutes. >> Okay. Yeah, that should be good. Appreciate you. You hear anything? >> No. Yeah. >> So, all right. So, here's the big thing. The tracker is like >> the man tells officers he's attending school to become an iron worker and fears charges could jeopardize his future. Police reassure him that it's likely a delayed report, not an immediate arrest. >> Iron worker. I don't want to mess that up. >> I mean, you you straight up stole, you know, maybe a few thousand on camera, too. So, >> no, it's not right. Around the wrong people just to help get money. >> If we get you a consent search form, will you fill that out and sign it saying that, "Hey, we can we can search your car and get the evidence back, get the pants back." Yeah. Do you have one of those forms? >> Can I grab them and then you guys >> Cuz the worst I mean, best case scenario is, hey, you just pull those jeans out. You say, "Here you go, man. My bad. I'm sorry. Worst case scenario is you go, "Aha!" and you pull out some sort of gat and then then it's a then it's a firefight, right? And I I I know that that's not how you are and that's not the vibe you're giving me, but I have to plan for worst case scenario, right? So, we're just going to sit until we get the official form out. You sign it saying, "Hey, I'm giving consent to to search this car to go through it and recover this merchandise and whatnot, and then we figure stuff out from there." Based on the tracker's location, it looks like you guys was running around just causing problems, too. Do you guys do anything else illegal? And that's why because that tracker shows every single place that you guys went to. It shows all the different areas. Shows how many times you bounce back to this area and everything. So my question to you is now an opportunity for you to be real and not shady about it. When these other people call out and say, "Hey, Silver BMW at this location and we got trackers that says you was there. We going to see anything else from here. I didn't do anything." >> Oh, I had to do anything while you was out. Did you run around still anything else? Officers confirm details with Old Navy. The total loss is $1, $350. The store chooses to press charges. >> More trouble. He's got school trying to be an iron worker and everything, but he was with a friend. Uh, he grabbed a stack of denim jeans, took it, drove off. Um, he's willing to give us consent to search. So, we filled out that consent to search in his vehicle so he can get the the jeans back >> and get everything. Right now, I'm having her get me uh the Old Navy, the original victim's number, so I can call them, find out what they want, >> okay, >> from all of this. >> Okay. >> Um and that's where we go from there. >> Okay. All right. You guys want to prosecute? Um my question to you is what what was the amount the dollar amount lost with the jeans? And then 350. Okay. And is that >> 800? Is that counting the tracker? Yes or no? So, 1350, 500 for the tracker, 850 for the jeans. Okay. Do you guys have any video surveillance of that? Perfect. Um, do you guys have it available like to send to an officer? Uh, Old Navy says they want to prosecute. Dollar amount. I think it's 1350 total. >> Okay. >> So, we'll recover the jeans. >> Sweet. >> I've never seen that before either. That's pretty sweet. >> All right, man. So, here's the next step. Next step is we'll get you a record statement from you. I'll write you a citation for it for theft. You show up in court later for it. Talk to the judge. Take care of it however you need to take care of it. Okay? As right now, like I said, everything else has been >> The suspect cooperates and agrees to a citation for theft instead of arrest. The car is flagged as involved in criminal activity, and the officers commend him for remaining calm and cooperative. Crime may seem easy money, but it always leaves a trail. Even hidden trackers can expose the truth. Choose honesty and better company, or one mistake can cost your entire future. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> Hands up. Hands up. >> I got >> a woman in Ohio orchestrated a high-speed chase after stealing thousands of dollars worth of Stanley cups. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> We just had a lady walk out with two of our bog bags with products stuck into them. Um, here's my video of her. Um, so >> did you guys walk out? >> Did she Did I walk out? >> Yeah. >> This is her and I was trying to Sorry. Let me uh >> walk out of my [Music] >> Okay. Yeah, that's fine. >> Did you find anything? Now, I'm not sure what the product she had in the bags, but I know that it was the two bog bags and that product was stuffed in there. >> What is your >> Melissa? >> I'm going to send you a link. Can you send me that video? >> Absolutely. We just did this on Monday. So I have I was coming from Bright Road since I was behind her. There was three guys in front of her. So I'm hoping one of them gets her whichever way she ended up going. So >> yeah, >> cuz one went towards the 99 the highway. So she may be getting to him here. Just a second. >> Yeah, it was like >> my sister. >> Yeah, she put him in obviously you can see her putting them in the trunk of her car. If I pause this um we start it right there. Sorry. You just go outside and wait on it. >> Well, I was right here and then I was just trying to get a license plate >> with a tan cos on. I just >> store managers gave police a detailed description and partial license plate number warning staff not to pursue suspects for safety reasons. >> Oh yeah, I get to fill out another one of these. Okay, at least we caught this one. >> I Yes, I Yeah. Well, you guys have a lady. >> I will tell you it's dangerous going out there even to get a license plate, but the license plate does help a lot. >> I know. >> Hi. >> Well, I'm always saying I went out to the sidewalk. >> Yeah. Well, I mean, you could say you went out and got the license plate. >> Yeah. >> I don't I mean, you didn't have much of a conversation with her anyway. >> No. Well, you weren't trying to stop her necessarily, >> so >> I'm sure that's against your policy. >> Yeah, we're supposed to sidewalk and that's about it. >> Yeah. >> After receiving a statement from officers located the suspect's car and initiated a high-speed pursuit reaching 115 Kimra on Interstate 75 and surrounding roads. >> We are eastbound on North Dixie Highway. Pit on her. >> Hands up. Hands up. I got it. >> Anybody in the back? [Applause] >> Headquarters. One in custody. >> What I do? >> Yeah. What' you do? What' you do? >> What I do? Tell me what I do. >> Stealing from Dicks. >> No, I put the ball in. >> You weren't running, were you? Officers searched her car, finding stolen Stanley Cups clothing and multiple shopping bags. All evidence of shoplifting. >> Thank you guys. Thank you. Thank you everybody. Appreciate it. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. >> Whenever you guys get a chance, whoever's in this, I The evidence is in the trunk. They said she put it in the trunk. Okay, >> I'll get you out of here. >> That's good. We're going to have a tow truck come get it. So, I got another officer should be here in a second. So, >> good job. You good? You all right? >> I'm good. You're good. You got >> We got a tow truck coming. >> I just need to get in the trunk. How you open the trunk on this stupid thing? >> There we go. There it is. Some pictures. >> Yeah, for a misdemeanor. >> Kind of dumb, but you need help with >> I got a tow truck coming. We're just going to get our evidence here and uh go from there. >> I thought you guys had it boxed in there, but So, I've got a whole bunch of Stanley's, some clothes, like a black rubber bag, a purple rubber bag, and a plastic bag with >> The suspect claimed she fled because she wanted to return to Toledo and call her baby's father, offering excuses for her actions. >> Does that sound about right? >> You're clear. It's all the special sto. >> I know. Why do they do this? [Music] >> Good. >> Let's take my phone off, please. >> Oh, yeah. We'll get there. You're not getting it, though. I mean, I just want to call make sure my baby back and my daughter. That's it. >> If you would have stopped in Finley and we would have wrote you a court date and you would have left and then you could have called your dad or your baby dad and your daughter. >> I don't know how Finley works. So, I wanted to get to Toledo. >> Toledo and now what's happens?
