They're right here. >> Get down on your knees now. No. No. >> Okay. Since you were just talking to me, I'm going to assume you understood it. >> What's your name, man? >> You're doing a lot of research today. Let's just put it that way. Okay. >> Okay. >> Store robberies aren't always pulled off by masked intruders or sneaky customers. Sometimes it's an inside job, one that costs businesses thousands of dollars thanks to deceptive, thieving employees. But no matter how clever they think they are, the police can usually tell when something's not right. And in this video, the police know this employee is hiding something. >> To find my little sister and he said, "Okay, he stood there and he watched me. I never walked out the door." >> On Desune 19, 2024 in Ohio, police responded to a Walmart theft in progress. Two women in a white SUV matching the suspect description were stopped in the parking lot. >> But I don't want him. He's not getting ready to blame me. to >> and what he said you got on >> right. Can you tell them to walk out to the middle of the parking lot and confirm if this is the right car? They can see my cruiser in front of it. They need to confirm that for me. >> I'm sorry, guys. I mean, if it's not you, I do apologize. But >> I didn't I don't have >> that. Nobody had anything. So, advising. >> He got anyway. >> He does not know if that's correct. >> And I'm I'm reporting him, too. That's [ __ ] >> That's [ __ ] They're wrong. >> They're dead wrong. >> Black females. That would be the car. >> I'm making a report. That's [ __ ] >> Okay. Well, go back up to the front. >> That for what? And he said he he don't that's that he don't even know if that's the right car. >> Listen, I have reasonable suspicion. He's given me a a description. Two black females in a white SUV. And he described your clothes. Black t-shirt, pink pants. Listen, I have reasonable suspicion for you to go back up there for him to either identify you or say you're good. If you're good, then you leave and it's done. And you can file a report if you wish. I'll give you my badge number, my name. >> It's not your fault, though. >> I I understand. >> And that if that man calls and he says he don't know, I'm leaving. There's several black people in that store. >> Officer explains reasonable suspicion based on store description. Two black females, white SUV. one wearing black t-shirt and pink pants. Requests they return to front for ID by loss prevention. >> He's wrong, sir. >> And you know that. And then it just come across the radio. >> I don't know for sure. And he came across. >> What do we What's the problem? I'm >> So there was a theft at Walmart and they're putting out a description of two black females in a white SUV. >> Oh, >> with the and they gave the clothing description of what she's wearing. So, I need you to go up front and she they're either going to say that's her or that's not and then you guys are good to go. But I'm not trying to do anything extra at all. But I have reasonable suspicion I have to do my job. Okay. >> Can I ask you this? What's your reasonable suspicion? >> Uh the the description they gave me in the white SUV. That's that's that's all I need. They say heavy set black female wearing a black t-shirt and pink pants and a white SUV. That's all I need to make you go up front. >> That's crazy. >> Okay. So, it's either that or I'm going to charge somebody with obstructing. Okay. So, I have reasonable suspicion. I'm not trying to escalate it. I don't I don't want to do all that, but can we please? >> One woman becomes argumentative, denies involvement, refuses to comply, and is arrested for obstruction after lying about her identity. >> Calm down. Go ahead. >> I understand you're frustrated, but >> I got the information when they originally called in. It should be an Angela gun. I ran her DS for a Signal 7. I'm not sure what vehicle you're out with, but she does have a Jeep Compass name. >> Ain't no Angela. >> Wrong. >> Okay. Well, this individual >> You want my ID? >> That's it. >> My name's not Angela. >> This This both of them loaded. Shoot them on out. >> They're wrong. >> Go ahead and step out. Turn the >> car in that car. Nothing >> inside. We got you. >> No, you're a liar. You are a liar. And you're wrong. My name's not Angela. Turn around. >> What am I? >> Get out of the car cuz I told you to. >> What are you arresting me for, though? >> Put your hands back. I'm going to tell you in just seconds. Put your hands together. >> Let's not make a scene. You ain't got to do all that. Okay. >> Let's just Let's just be cool. >> Yes, sir. >> I'm sorry. I'm not trying to pinch it. >> Can I I don't understand what I was driving for. >> Both of them. >> She loaded with her. I was told to go. We were going shopping for We was going shopping for our kids. She said, "Get the car." I went and got the car. >> The second woman claims she was only retrieving the car for her sister and didn't know about the theft. Is detained but suspected of assisting. >> Turn your hand this way. >> I don't know. It's Walmart. I don't know. Walmart and chill coffee. I don't know. >> Bring your hand. >> She told me to come get the car. So, I went to get the car. She said she wanted to get those for the girls and for the boys and everything. So, she told me to come get the car. She told me to get the car. I went and got the car. I don't know. She came out. doesn't have anything >> right now. You're being detained. Okay. >> I'm being detained >> for obstructing official business. >> Okay. >> You behave yourself. I will discuss releasing you with a son. Okay. >> I will. I'm not exactly. >> All right. Let's take a walk. Go back to the car. >> I don't know what's going on. They're stopping talking about Santana. >> Hold on. I'm going to ask you a couple questions, okay? But I got to read this to you before I ask any questions legally. Okay? >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer. Have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you for any questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights or not make any statements or answer any questions. Do you understand your rights? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did you know she was taking some? >> No. >> Okay. >> But my my intentions, she said she she needed a ride. She doesn't have a car. So, we're supposed to be going shopping. Okay. She saw me to help her look for this. Look for that. Okay. >> When she got in the car, did did she make you aware that she had just left LP? >> No. I didn't know when >> How old are you? >> What? >> How old are you? >> Old enough. >> All right, let's go inside and talk. >> There's another one inside that you were dispatched on the side. >> Oh, yeah. We have another one. >> Okay. Okay. We have one in the office and this was one that pushed out while we had that one in there, too. >> Okay. All right. Did you guys attempt to stop them? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. >> I stopped when you put the car first. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, Phil and I are headquarters and then I was up here with him and I put him and Justin both on them cuz my store manager was like, >> "Losts prevention reports. Both women pushed past staff, loaded merchandise, and left. Items recovered before they exited fully. Officers plan to charge for both obstruction and theft. >> You can write me. So, I want to charge him with obstructing for running and lying to me when I had him stopped up front. So, I need a brief statement. Hey, we tried to stop them. They pushed past us. We were able to get the items, but we observed Officer McCoy stopped him in the lot. However you want to word it in your words. Um, but I just need that to charge them with obstructing as well. >> Do you want me to get his statement and Justin's? >> It doesn't matter. I just need one to put to charge that. >> I just need one to charge them with that. And then you guys obviously want to do the theft, right? >> Oh, absolutely. >> Okay. Maybe a thousand. >> Oh, really? >> It's It's a lot of >> Yeah, it's a lot. Well, >> I'll do the theft for now and then I'll wait how we normally do it and then but if we can do the statement, I'll go ahead and put them in uh jail for the obstructing and the theft. >> Justin's currently working on getting a total. So, we'll have a total for you probably. >> We'll have a total here in 5 minutes. >> Okay. I'm going to go grab a form. All I need is you guys saying that >> the older suspect gives her account insisting she never exited with merchandise and was looking for her sister. Police suspect she's the primary offender >> and not answer any questions or make any statement. You understand right? Okay. >> So with all that being said, >> it's honest hour. They're about to pull me all the footage. They're about to pull the receipt. >> What happened today? >> I'm going to tell you. So when I I was really actually looking for my little sister, but she had already went to another store. So when I walked out, I was standing there standing I didn't even make it out the door. So when I came there, I was standing at the door and I was looking like, "Is she outside?" I walked over by subway. I was standing there. So then the white man jumped out. He came right there by the door and he said, "Hey, sir, lost prevention." I said, "I'm looking for my little sister. I said, "You can hold my buggy. I'm going outside >> to find my little sister." And he said, "Okay." He stood there and he watched me. I never walked out the door. I I mean I walked out the door, but I didn't walk out the door with nothing. >> Did you have items that they had to take back from you before you walked out of the store? >> I didn't walk out the store. I left the the buggy was sitting right there. >> Okay. All right. >> So I It wasn't like I was walking out the door with the buggy. You know what I'm saying? I was standing I was see that second door right there, that last door. I was standing right there when the door opened. I looked out. Well, before I looked out, the man said, "Losts prevention." I said, "I'm not going anywhere, sir. I'm looking for my little sister." He said, "Okay." He I seen him do something on his phone and I when I walked out this way. I was walking to the car and I heard him on the phone, but I didn't know. You know what I mean? >> Okay. All right. >> So, he was like, "Uh, he said, "I can't." He said, "I can't say you stole it cuz you didn't make it out the store, but I do still have to call the police." I said, "I wasn't going out the store." >> Okay. Well, put put your foot back in. I'm going to figure out what they want to do and we'll go from there. Okay. >> Thank you, sweetie. >> Yep. So, uh, they called one and I when I was on the way here, another one took off on him. >> So, I don't think after talking to him, I think little sister I'm just going to cut her loose cuz she had really no idea what was going on, but I think the older one who pushed out the door. >> The younger woman was released after determining she likely had no knowledge. The older woman was transported to Ross County Jail. >> Uh, is this like an actual family member? >> Same DNA. >> Oh, okay. As soon as she comes back, she can find you. Uh, there's nothing. >> 25-year-old female enforcement is bad. >> Okay. Let's go to the front of my car. I'm going to take the cuffs off of you and you'll be good to go. Okay. You know, uh, go to Facebook, please. >> Sorry. Are you aware if she has anything on her? >> No. Do you know her still use drugs? >> No, I've never seen her do drugs and I think I was like >> Yeah. All right. >> Okay. Well, you're good to go. All right. So, I don't know. Maybe take more caution. >> Yeah. Um, but where does she go? Oh, >> she's going to go to the Ross County Jail. >> Suspect learns she's being charged with obstruction and theft for $735 in merchandise. Requests phone numbers to contact relatives. >> I don't have no phone numbers, no nothing. >> Okay, give me a sec. What number you want? Hers? >> I need No, I need to tell I I need to tell her to call my cousin. I don't even know if I'm Am I going to jail? >> What cousin? Yeah, you are. You're going to jail. You're under arrest for trucking official business and theft without consent for $735 or something like that. What did I obstruct? >> You lied to me at the end of the parking lot. Said it, wouldn't you? >> I did not. >> It may. >> Listen, cuz it was it was another it's another woman in there. >> Listen, that's that's her that's her court in the morning. >> Mhm. >> So, what numbers do you want? >> Um c can you write them down for me so I can get them? >> I will do whatever you need to. >> Uh get tell her get my phone. >> I'm going to do one or two. I can't write down 30 numbers. We got to get >> No, you can't. I know you can't. Tell her to go tell her to go to my mom's and tell her to write my cousin Carlos's number down and um ask her is she going to >> Would it be okay if I just have her cuz I think she's thinking about coming and getting you anyway. So, can I just get her number for you and she can relay? >> Officer explains she'll likely be released on her own recgnissance the next morning with a later court date. >> Different. >> So, she'll have a hearing tomorrow morning. I would almost guarantee you'll be released tomorrow morning uh on an O bond. That's usually how it works here. Uh so you get an O bond in the morning and give you another court date for an actual trial or if you choose to plea, that's all on you. That's not I don't care what you do, okay? That's your decision. So however you do that down the road is fine, but tomorrow they should probably you out with a new court date and you'll be heard then whatever date they set. Probably after the holidays. Do you have a paper that I can write my phone number down? >> Yeah, >> that's what I was Yeah, that's what I was going to have you do anyway. >> I'm grabbing my phone real quick. See you have >> I'm good. You don't have nothing on you, do you? Listen, listen. Listen. Honest hour. If you go to the jail with something on you, it's a felony and I will charge you with it. >> Yes, sir. >> So, you don't have anything on you? Okay. >> Cuz I don't want to make my officer pull you out and do all the extra stuff. >> If you go to jail, it's going to be a felony. >> I don't think I got nothing on me. >> Okay. Oh my my back. >> Okay. Do you want to get her out and check check her anyway? That's up to you. >> That's up to you. You call me. >> Yeah. Go ahead and get out. Stretch your legs for a second. Okay. And who's that? >> That's our one of my cousins. Doing this cuz I had that drugs argument. I don't like drugs. >> No. Come on. I've been so respectful with you. Come on now. >> When it came I said the thing when it came back, she said you got a history of uh possession of crack cocaine. I could care less about a history. You look fine to me. I don't think you're doing crack right now. >> I'm not. I don't even smoke crack. >> I believe you. But I'm just saying that's not why you're being charged today. That has nothing to do with with any of this today. It's just just an overwhelming >> uh Yeah, it's fine. Go ahead and grab it. >> What's your password? >> 0108. >> Take it out to your phone. >> 0108. >> Number >> them both. I got them both. And I'll have him write them down for you. Okay. Check out court and say I'll be >> Hey, thank you. >> You got that paper with the numbers on it? >> Yep. And I'm going to give them to you, right? >> She was charged with obstructing official business and theft without consent for about $735 worth of merchandise. Professionalism exists on both sides. Just as not all shoplifterss are hostile, not all officers are abusive. Mutual respect and cooperation can make even an unpleasant situation far less combative. What an unyielding shoplifter. The next shoplifter will react much more violently, so keep an eye out. >> Yeah. >> Being in possession of an anti- theft device or whatever. >> Correct. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Let me just check her socks. >> Tell her to take off her shoes. >> On June 25th, 2024, just another sunny afternoon in Port Charlotte, Florida, until deputies were called to a Burlington store. The reason a dynamic duo was suspected of shoplifting, one playing hideand-seek in the store, the other chilling in the getaway car. >> You follow me? My my coworker. >> Where is he at? >> He's in the parking lot. He's in the silver Subaru with black. >> Hey, how you doing? Can I talk to you real quick? >> Can I talk to you real quick? >> All right. Are you here with someone else? >> Deputies confronted one suspect speaking mostly Spanish. She was evasive, lacked ID, and was placed under arrest. Officers identified merchandise hidden in the suspect vehicle. >> Okay. All right. Okay. All right. All right. All right. Okay. >> You're saying the other one's inside the store? >> Yeah. >> But this is the correct vehicle. >> Okay. >> All right. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> Stay right here. Stay right here. >> 24 one detained. >> Okay. 224. Copy a >> copy a California tag. >> Yeah. Don't tell Don't come with the >> All right. Stay right Stay right here. >> No, that the second LP guy is over there. That gray guy. Oh, that's Jenowski. Other one's supposed to be over there in that gray in that gray one. The gray shirt right there. He's the second LP guy. >> Okay. >> In what store? Oh, he already has her. >> Burlington. >> Yep. Yep. I see him. All right. Here. He's They're already out with them. Okay. >> What was that? >> The merchandise inside the car. >> You already seen it? >> I saw her. Both of them put the merchandise on the car. >> Perfect. >> I saw the merch. All right. Don't answer any other question. So, it's ju it's just the two right now. I just need someone to stay with that car because that's where all the merchandise is right now. >> Okay. >> Uh the LP guy already confirmed he I guess he looked in the car while they were in Ross and then she hopped scooted it out over here and got into the car and that's where he um that's where he backed off and was sitting behind her. Her photo is open right now and there's a photo of a of her merchandise right there. Okay. >> Um, I'm just going to She was texting someone probably the other person inside. >> Does she speak any English or not? >> Okay. >> I'm going to before she goes in the car, search her. [Music] >> Um, I'm just going to search as best as I can before she gets in the car. That's okay. I got it. No. [Music] >> Yeah. Uh J um Macowski has her >> as far as >> one woman was found with a device used to bypass anti- theft sensors. A felony offense under Florida law. >> Just just to confirm only two, correct? Okay. And the other deputies with the other one and you confirmed that you confirmed with moment. >> Okay. So, hey, this was in her pocket. It's used to get through anti- theft devices, which there is a Florida state statue for being in >> Yeah. being in possession of an anti- theft device or whatever. Correct. >> Yeah. Okay. Let me just check her socks. Tell her to take off her shoes. >> Don't let me forget my Yeah, it's right here. [Music] >> You got your camera roll. Okay. >> Um I think No. Uh >> looks like she has an Argentinian. >> No, no. Antiendo. >> Sorry. Like Pablo. Pablo likeito >> I I don't know. So unto Okay. >> Where do you go? >> I I have no idea. He's somewhere in the park. ID. >> All right. She said no originally, but >> you only have your number. >> No, you have ID. >> You have nothing. How about we empty out your purse? Do you have anything in here? Okay. Nana. Okay. How about you open it? >> How about you open open your purse? Let's see what's in there. >> Okay. I understand you don't understand me, but you know what? Open it. Open. >> Okay. How about we just use a translator? I'm asking for you to open your purse. >> Do we have a counter or something over here? Or how about this cart? Is yours or from here? >> From here. You have glove. >> Yeah. >> This yours? >> Do you have a picture of your ID? >> Uh, last name. You have a a pet. >> Full name. Okay. >> Jail, >> huh? >> Yeah, you're going to jail. >> You know mean you know what jail is, right? It's going to go through jail. I think she knows what jail is. Don't tighten tight. Tight. Female. >> Yeah, that's fine. Females can slip out of that [ __ ] >> Tighten that m That hurts. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. [Music] During the arrest, the women became upset, cursed, and argued. One revealed she had an active warrant. They discussed bond, uncertain release, and deportation concerns. [Music] I came running over here to this. >> Yeah, Macowski was with a Hispanic female. I could see there's a good >> This is kind of all scrambled together. >> No, that was great. All right, so here we go. 20 40 60 81 20 40 60 80 and then 1 2 3 4 whatever. You know, they see it on camera. Who cares what the count is unless it's a large amount? Just watch on camera. Stuff is missing. You can go back in the camera and count it yourself. >> I have a money bag that we can put it into. >> Yeah, it can go to the jail with her. >> Okay. >> Dollar five. >> After both women were arrested and transported separately for processing, deputies completed searches and logged their belongings. Once cleared, they were placed together in a patrol car for transfer to the Charlotte County Jail. Wait a second. Oh, no. No. foreign. Argentina. [Music] Huh? [Music] Yeah. See [Music] detainer. [Music] Huh? [Music] No. No. Oh, no. No. [Music] Officers explained to the women that immigration authorities IC had placed a detainer hold, meaning they would likely be deported and not eligible. for release on bail. The women asked about the court and the seriousness of their charges. Deputies clarified they faced felony charges, especially due to anti- theft tools found. felony. Misdemeanor Okay. No. What's up? >> Hold on. I'm coming outside. >> Final charges. Felony, retail theft, possession of anti- theft devices, resisting arrest without violence, criminal conspiracy. Both suspects, Carla Stephanie Sto Aronita and Guaness Michael Flores Reyes were in the US illegally and had committed similar thefts in Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, and Miami. They remain in custody facing both criminal and immigration consequences. >> Oh. Oh, those shoes. Yeah. Oh. Uh, I can't even. Uh, I I threw those away. On November 30th, 2023, police were called to the office after one of the suspects. Adam was overwhelmed with guilt and decided to confess. Before speaking with him, officers heard from the manager who explained the situation in detail. >> All of these items that are missing >> aren't here. >> Three. It occurred over three days. >> Yep. If But these besides the ones >> besides Yeah. Besides these ones and these ones, you can't >> you're unable to determine when and where. >> Yeah. you know that they're missing. >> And I I know it's their work area because they like to hide everything in the bathroom. That's the end of their work area. That's where these are found. But again, I can't >> just the boxes. >> Yes. I can't prove 100%. >> So somebody somebody else has taken these ones out. >> And I'm guessing it's the same group. They've admitted they've been doing this for about uh a few weeks over a month they admitted. I think it was Reggie who admitted that. And they basically the admission is that Satchel is the girl's name who came up talked to Reggie and Andreas about he admitted this state of sel is a psychopath but he's so he basically satchel Reggie and Andre both made it and satchel came up and basically influenced them saying hey we should all get a little bit of that thing going on know whatever Andre's been the one kind of collecting things in the Reggie's been storing it and they've been distributing it amongst these other street and sat. >> Yep. And they leave they live together. >> At that moment, officers had Adam and his two accompllices, Reggie and Andre, in custody. The manager told them that Adam and Reggie would likely be willing to cooperate. And once their statements were taken, Andre would probably do the same. Adam was already waiting in the next room, ready to talk. >> Adam. Yes, sir. >> Officer Smith with the police department. >> You got your ID with you, my dude? Okay. So, so walk me through what what's gone on over the last like 30 days. >> Um the last 30 days with just doing property. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, um, about obviously a month ago, we kind of like I I came from obviously after my shift and me, Reggie, and Andre, you know what's called >> we met up and they said, "Okay, >> yep. I have something for you." And I'm like, "Okay." And then, um, he gave it to me. I put in my backpack and he left. I did notice stealing and stolen. I didn't say anything. I have obviously talked to Adam about how I do want to make things right. >> Sure, >> I have stolen things and I do know I was wrong and I'm willing obviously to return it or ref. >> Adam apologized for the theft and appeared genuinely remorseful. He openly admitted to stealing alongside Reggie and Andre, but claimed it was all influenced by a mysterious woman's satchel that somehow drew them into it. According to Adam, after a few weeks, he decided to stop stealing and it seemed the others had stopped as well. >> I do obviously apologize for, you know, what we did. I mean, I do know what was wrong. I'm I was being an idiot. I was 100% being an idiot. >> Mhm. >> And I think we all were. And I mean, I think we just shouldn't have done it. And >> And I do want to make things right. That's pretty much it. >> Do you remember any of the items that you took? >> Yes, sir. I do. I did write it down on a statement form. Do you want to check out? >> Uh I forget the statement, but yeah. What do you remember? What what items? >> I don't remember all everything, but I do remember AirPod Maxes, which I do have possession of. >> Okay. >> I remember um a game deck, a Steam thing. It's like a controller thing. I don't know if you know what that is. >> Um I believe and two tablets and Apple Watch. I believe that's all I had. >> iPad tablets or um >> iPads? iPad. and then an Apple Watch. >> Beyond that, Adam couldn't recall anything more. He might have been lying, but unlike many suspects, he took full responsibility for his actions. A significant step in the right direction. >> So, I know what was going on. I was oblivious like, "Oh, can you put this in my backpack?" >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, you kind of you kind of knew you kind of suspected that it was >> I definitely know what I was doing and I definitely took part of it and I acknowledged that it was wrong, but I at the same time it was just like okay like I I because we had already taken it. So, it's like I mean I'm not going to have like like might as well just you know give it to me so it looks it doesn't look so bad like you you have you know multiple things and I and I you know what I mean? like it just I I wanted to take a fall as well if we were going to get in trouble and that was my decision. >> It was stupid and I wanted to stop but at this point it's too late. I mean I I acknowledge I was wrong. >> Fair enough. >> I appreciate you you being honest and not trying to to bull me or or do anything else like that. You know >> it's too like by that time it was >> the the harder part is is that there's there's cameras everywhere. The officer explained that scanners and cameras tracked everything, giving the company a clear view of what was in their bags each time they entered or left the building. So, confession or not, the evidence was undeniable. Now, it was time to see if Andre would be as forthcoming as his friend Adam. >> How we doing? >> Pretty good. How about you? >> Good. >> You're Andre? >> Yes, sir. How >> is night? I'm officer Chris Smith with the Salt Lake City Police Department. >> Okay. So, uh, first thing, do you have your ID with you? >> Uh, yes. >> And so, Satchel is kind of the point person for all of this and coming up to Reggie. Reggie seemed off and was like, "Hey, I need, you know, help me out here. Take these." And then he took those. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Did you take anything else with you? >> Uh, besides the um the shoes. >> Took the shoes. What' you do with your other shoes? ones that you brought in to work. >> Huh? The >> Oh. Oh, those shoes. Yeah. Oh. Uh, I can't even lie. Uh, I I threw those away. You just pitched them and said, "I'm out." >> So, you took the new shoes and threw the old ones away, right? >> Uh, yeah. You know, cuz the ones that I had, uh, well, I mean, he would have looked they were pretty rough. >> Yeah, they they looked a little rough. >> Like talking out the soul was kind of rough. So, >> Andre shared that he had previously been homeless, but had recently been staying with Reggie, the third person involved. When questioned, Reggie also admitted to the theft. It turned out to be one of those rare cases where multiple suspects cooperated fully with law enforcement without any unnecessary drama. >> All right, my man. So, here's what's going on tonight. >> Okay. After sorting through all of this, >> um, unfortunately, you are going to be going to jail tonight. Okay. Just based off the dollar amount, it turns it into felony or theft. Okay. Um, no. Like we talked about, I know you have some of the items still still in your possession. Yes. >> I'm going to give you Steve's contact information. >> Yeah. >> First time being in trouble. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, what what typically happens is >> first- time offenders, they get booked and they get released on what's called pre-trial services. You got to essentially you got to call in. They're people that help you keep up with your court date and make sure that you're following through on your commitments. Um, after after that occurs, reach out to Steve, say, "Hey, look about that. >> I'm bringing this stuff back." And the reason that I'm telling you, so State of Utah, any sort of theft, they can charge you up to three times the dollar amount for restitution. So, >> contrary to the claims many criminals make about police abusing their power, these officers acted with complete professionalism. They appreciated the suspect's honesty and treated each of them with respect and courtesy. Even the employer had kind words for them despite the fact that they had stolen from the business. >> What officer said here? Appreciate what you done. Sorry I had to end this way, man. >> I hear you. Um but good luck. All right. >> All right. Thank you. >> Yep. We'll grab your bag. >> Yeah, I do apologize. The smaller the wrist, the tighter they get. >> Yes. A little better. Unfortunately, it's a big it's a big building. So, >> can you come in with us? >> Yes, I'm coming out. >> Will you learn? >> How come you got two phones? So I always like always >> one girlfriend the other girlfriend. >> Poly. >> Hey, come on now. >> No. >> The smile on Point's face. >> Reggie, I like you. >> Although the officer liked Reggie, he was the only one arrested that day because the value of what he'd stolen qualified as a felony. As for Adam and Andre, the company couldn't determine exactly how much they had taken, so both were released and faced only misdemeanor charges. The value stolen matters as much as the act. In the eyes of the law, the dollar amount determines whether you're facing a misdemeanor or a felony, which can mean the difference between walking free and going to jail. Comment your opinion about the case in the comment section. Let's find out the next incident. >> I'm okay. you. >> On December 19th, 2022, the Florida Lottery reported a strange case involving a local gas station clerk who attempted to claim a $25,000 prize from a scratchoff ticket. While that kind of win would usually call for a celebration, something didn't sit right because the winning ticket had been purchased at the very store where the clerk worked. >> Hey, can you come in real quick? I got to talk to you. >> Me? >> Yes. What happened? >> I just We got to talk about some stuff. Step outside for me. >> What? We'll talk about it. Come on. See you. Come here for a little boy. >> What is this about? >> Come on. Just come this way. All right. Come over here. Let me see where you're from. You're going to get my car. All right. >> Okay. What is this about? >> I'm going to explain it to you. Okay. Just hang out. Okay. Just Just give me a second. Okay. Just let me let me get through the steps and then we're going to go from there. Okay? So, I'm going to read you something. All right? Just bear with me a second. Okay? You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? >> Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand that? >> Okay. >> You understand? You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned. Do you understand that? >> Her scheme was simple. She'd go about her job as usual, but secretly steal an entire book of lottery tickets, greatly increasing her odds of landing a winner. After reading her writes, the officer didn't waste time with small talk and immediately cut to the chase. >> I'm giving you a chance to be forthcoming and honest with me. So, I'm going to give you a chance to tell me what happened. >> Mhm. >> And then based on what you say, I'm going to tell you what I know. >> Okay. >> But I'm giving you a chance to be honest. Okay. >> That's it. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, >> here. >> Yeah. There's something happened here. Got some lottery tickets. >> Your name came up. I've been doing a lot of research today. Let's just put it that way. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, look, I came up here to talk to you. >> So, to give you a maybe there's a logical explanation to this. I don't know. That's why I'm here to give you a chance to explain. So, that's what I'm here for. Go ahead. >> Can I talk to my boss? >> No, not right now. >> Okay. Well, I don't know. What am I being blamed for? Stolen lottery tickets or something. Do you know anything about any stolen lottery tickets? >> Not really. I mean >> working last Thursday. >> 15th. >> I don't check my my phone. I don't know. >> You remember you you were here cuz I I saw I already know you were here last. >> Lottery tickets had already been reported missing from the store and in order to keep their lottery license, the store was required to compensate for the loss. With all the evidence stacked against her, the case seemed clear. But the woman kept playing dumb. So the officer decided to turn the tables, playing along with her act in hopes of catching her in her own words and exposing the truth >> or something like that. >> Short of what? >> I don't really remember. That's >> No, no. I'm asking a short ticket. >> I guess. Yeah, the count. >> Okay. Like you say a short, how do you mean? Is there one ticket missing? Is there like 80 tickets missing? >> I don't know. There was a short. I guess it was like a maybe a couple like $50 $50 or something like that. I guess >> so. Shorten your drawer or >> No, for the you have to actually count them as well. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Like the tickets were short. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Did he ever say how many were short? >> No. And I thought I worked that over. I know he came to me and said it, but I thought I worked that over, but it was coming out of my check. >> Okay. >> So, I don't >> How much How much was supposed to come out of your check? >> I don't know. That's what I'm saying. I don't really remember. I can look. I mean, I don't I don't remember. Okay. >> So, there was a short in tickets uh like $50 $60. >> I I'm thinking that's like the last video. >> At the moment, police are investigating the woman for theft. But it doesn't stop there. Since she attempted to claim cash prizes using stolen lottery tickets, her actions are also being considered fraud. With multiple charges piling up, it's clear she won't be getting out of this scot-free. >> I'm going to pay Yeah, I'm going to pay for I'm going to have to pay for it. You actually have to pay it back. >> Yeah, I'm going to have to pay it back. >> And how much did he say it was in that time? >> I don't That's why I say I can look at my phone. I can remember the date, but I don't really remember off hand. >> Okay, that's fine. All right. Um, well, there's a bunch missing right now. A whole bunch. >> A bunch. >> Bunch like I'm just I'm just being I'm just like I said, >> keep in mind, okay? I just I just >> I just want you to keep in mind >> there's tons of cameras in here. Okay. Yeah, >> you did a You tried to do a good job, but there was some We can still see some things. >> I watched the video. >> So, that's what I I'm just This is your chance to be honest. Like, listen, there's people there's bad people in this world and there's people that just make mistakes. >> What the officer is doing now is showing sympathy for her situation, trying to come across as non-threatening. While the crime she committed is serious and doesn't really warrant much sympathy, the officer's tactic is strategic. He's using empathy as a tool to lower her defenses and ultimately get a confession. >> We have all this stuff going on. Inflation's everything's up. Like, it's an easy way to make a few extra bucks. And it is what it is. I think all that weighing on you. You're a mom. You got all this stuff going on. It's like again, it's Christmas. It's the holidays. It's like we made a mistake, we own it, we move the hell on and we deal with it. >> Is that what happened? >> Yes. >> Am I going to jail today? >> I mean, as of right now, you're not under arrest. >> We do have to explain to you that the reason we're out here >> is because it's five full hours. >> Yeah. 56. >> The officer then presented her with documents from the Florida Gaming Commission, which clearly laid out the timeline. The lottery books went missing at specific times, and the winning tickets were cashed in shortly after each time. She was the only clerk on duty. The evidence pointed directly at her, and based on the pattern, it wasn't the first time she had fraudulently claimed cash prizes. >> To know how many books were taken, >> say it's a jack winner for $25,000. He gets charged with stealing $25,000. >> So, what I have to do, we got to try to protect other people, >> whoever it is. And we need to know how many books were taken. >> Did you take it? >> Yeah. And I don't >> Which book was it? >> Um, there were >> It looks like the officer finally got a confession from the suspect, marking real progress in the investigation. However, he was quick to note that she hadn't confessed to the full extent of her crimes just enough to get things moving, but clearly holding back on the bigger picture. >> One book at 1857, you catch another one. At 1858, you catch another one. Those are from two separate books. So, I know more than one book. >> I'm not saying that. I'm telling the tape, but I I know I don't have the whole book, but I just don't want to. >> I understand. >> You're not on London Crust anymore? No, I work without evicted. Like, >> what hotel are you at? >> I just My kids are out here. I >> I understand. I love your kids. >> It's okay. >> It's okay. >> It's not okay cuz I was like, "That's bad." But then that, you know, that I >> That was just a mistake. >> The stolen items weren't something she could simply return to the store. The lottery books had already been reported stolen, making them completely invalid and unsellable. To make matters worse, the winning tickets from those books had already been cashed in by her. So when she was brought back to face her boss, he was understandably furious. >> The money to pay for the lottery now. >> Okay, Sam. I will get that for you. >> Okay, give me the money. >> I'm Sam. Well, I don't have it all. You want my check? You want I have two checks. That That's it. >> If you don't have it, you you you deal with the Let's Let's work. Look, let's work on getting the tickets in one second. We're almost This is not the time to do all this. He's already kind of said what he wants to say. We can't sit here. We're not going to sit here and badger him. >> Hey, this is not >> Let me Can I grab my stuff? >> We'll get all your stuff. Let's work on Let's call your mom. We should call your mom. Let's go talk to your mom. Let's go Let's call your mom. Let's work on getting the ticket. >> So far, the cops have shown a surprising level of sympathy toward the woman. Perhaps thinking her crimes were driven by financial hardship and poor judgment. But the truth is, she's not as innocent as she seems. Behind the surface lies a pattern of deliberate deception that paints a much darker picture. >> Oh, don't do that. You scared me, girl. >> No. Why would I do that? You're right there. >> You scared me to death. >> You gave me a heart attack. >> I have to hit it to roll up the window. >> I got you. You scared me to death. >> Come on, man. I'm not going to >> I was like, I'm going to make this really bad. Oh, no. >> You need help? >> Wow. Check out the Jaguar sub. It's hard to believe she's facing serious financial hardship, or at least not the kind that would justify turning to crime. And while the cops have been surprisingly patient and sympathetic up to this point, that goodwill isn't going to last forever. Sooner or later, reality catches up. >> Fine. >> Okay, just pull the hood back. >> The books that you asked for here. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right. Tell you what, just hop out for me. >> Nope. Just Nope. No. There's a whole bunch more in there. There's a whole bunch. >> These are mine. Those are >> You didn't buy all those books. I'll tell you what. If we're going to play No, I'm going to >> We're going to play the game. I'm just going to tell the car. >> I'm going to get I'm going to get this. >> Okay. We're done. We're done. >> No. Please. Please. Here. Here. Okay. Just take the Okay. Officer. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please, please, please, please. Play games. We're done playing games. >> After her arrest, the woman was charged with grand theft and sentenced to 60 days in jail as part of a plea deal. But shockingly, her run-ins with the law didn't stop there. She missed a court date which led to authorities discovering drugs in her possession. And on top of that, she picked up another petty theft charge. Clearly, she hadn't learned her lesson. Don't mistake patience from the police as a free pass. Justice always catches up. Living a lie. No matter how smooth it seems, eventually comes crashing down. Right here. On December 17th, 2021, officers responded to a highstakes shoplifting situation at Target involving three familiar suspects. Two black females and one black male. Loss prevention LP had eyes on them the whole time, watching as they casually loaded up a cart, completely unaware that officers were waiting just outside the frame. >> The front, they're loading everything that they've selected into one cart. Probably getting ready to head up to the front. Um, she's just gonna let me know when they pass all points of sale and when they're headed out and she'll let me know which side they're going to, right, Gabby? You'll let me know which side they're going to. >> Okay. Okay. All right. She thinks one of them might be coming out before the rest of them, so she'll let me know about that. But they're still loading up right now. >> I'm pretty sure she did. She came in, grabbed a cart, and headed straight down that front. So if all else fails, we can just identify them and go from there. Y'all said that they did this yesterday as well. >> Yeah. And one of the women in here actually just left not too long ago. >> Um but is it just you >> at the moment? >> At the moment it's just >> we have two more units coming. >> Two more units coming. Just one right now. >> Yeah. Yeah. I let them know there's three of them. >> So >> she said they're coming up the back wall now. So, they're probably going to pop out soon, but she'll she'll let me know >> over there. >> Should we move should we move over to the entrance or should we just stay here at the exit? She said um the first girl might come out by herself. Um so, if she does to just let her kind of keep moving and try to pull her off to the side. Um she's mostly concerned with the other with the other people. What is What does the first girl look like? What is she wearing, guys? Coming up right now, passing Starbucks. Coming out of the exit now. >> Right there. Okay. The guy. >> As the suspects approached the exit, officers prepared to move in. >> I got a receipt. You have a receipt? Let me see. I have it right here. >> Drop one. Got one running. Brown shoes, gray pants, blue t-shirt towards [Applause] Just ran across Alicorn over by the Murphy's description here. Brown boots, gray pants, blue t-shirt at Murphy's over by Verizon. I'm running back towards target. Target for towards target. The chase turned dangerous fast. He sprinted through traffic like it was a real life game of Frogger before diving into a Volvo sedan and speeding off. He just ran up the hill into the target parking lot. >> You see him? Where's he at? >> Just jumped into a gray sedan. >> All right, we're at I'm coming in the drive parking lot. Charlie, Quebec, Romeo 7472, >> coming out near Bank of America. >> All right, it's going to be a uh Volvo sedan twodoor driven by a black male. He's going out the uh crap. Yeah, he went out the uh side over there. I believe he headed back towards Abberorn. >> All right, I don't have sight. I'm going to turn off my lights. >> Meanwhile, one of the female suspects tried to change her appearance by slipping on a stolen shirt, thinking that might throw LP off. It didn't. Staff still recognized her and officers quickly moved in. on Johnny Street. >> I'm pretty sure she was with them, but she just put on a new shirt. >> This one? >> Yes. >> I don't have I'm going to turn off my lights. Sorry. Hide. That comes back to 2122 Mexico Street. >> Hey, >> you got ID on you? >> First name is back up here. >> Wait, I ain't getting out with you. You get your hands off of me. >> You're a known shoplifter. Oh, >> give me your hand. >> Give me your hand. >> Don't drop that. >> Don't drop my phone. >> Stop. Going to be a 2004 83 in color. It's going to be very light. It's not going to be a dark green. It's going to be a very light green. Almost silver looking. And it does have some damage. She refused to give her name and ended up with an obstruction by hindering charge. Eventually she gave the name Simmons but remained difficult throughout. >> Both under Jane do. >> Okay. >> You still want to see it then? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Traffic 41 to 41 alpha 2. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Whenever you're available, I need you inside loss prevention. >> I'm heading that way now. Uh give me just a minute. You can wait. I want to add this car to lock this one. >> Temple, bring your little toy. >> Yeah, I just want to see if >> Just so you know, you're refusing to provide your information is another charge. It's called obstruction by hindering. >> It's called what? >> Obstruction by hindering. >> And what is that? >> It's you not providing me with your information that you are required by law to provide. >> Just take me to jail. >> What's your last name? >> Simmons. >> Simmons. Spell that. >> You can't spell Simmons. >> How do you spell it? >> Simmons. How spell? >> Is it 1 M? Two M's. >> Two M. >> 20 M's. >> 20 M. >> First name. >> B. >> What state is your ID? Chad, Georgia. >> What's good phone number? >> I don't have one. >> That's all you need is come on and take me to jail. >> Is the address on your license a valid address for you? >> I don't have no license. You got everything. >> Is the address that is associated with your driver's license a valid address? >> I don't have a driver license. >> You've never been issued one by the state of Georgia? >> No. Don't drive. Officers ran her info and confirmed her identity using state records. Turns out she'd been arrested before and still had an active Georgia driver's license on file. >> I'm going to log in. It's >> okay. She provided me with a name and date of birth. >> All right, we'll check it and make sure. I'm not going to ask my name. >> Okay. Well, we're just going to double check. had to tell her >> this one there too. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You want this to open the bags, too. >> The kicker, she had more than $5,000 worth of stolen goods in her possession. On top of that, her phone was seized. It's suspected to hold evidence of a larger theft ring. Oh, look. Shoplifting. That was why she didn't want to give me information. >> I got her social and all that stuff here, too, if you need it. >> Oh, and by the way, you do have a state driver's license or at least you did at one point. >> You want her social? >> I'm not at your >> It should be attached to the warrant. >> Uh, it should be fine. This ran all the way to Murphy's. didn't know because I was on the other side waiting for him. >> Literally just like this. >> I'm about to go to jail. I'll tell you when I get there. >> Target. >> All right. I'll call you. >> Thank you, ma'am. So, >> we'll go ahead and uh submit that as evidence. >> How you going to submit my phone as evidence instead? >> Cuz you're coordinating conspiracy of a crime. >> What? >> Through your cell phone. I believe your cell phone has information regarding the people that you're helping stealing shoplift. >> Where's the iPhone? Y'all can't do that. Whatever. >> Okay. >> You go ahead shut it off. That way they can't wipe it. >> I already put it on airplane mode. I'm a child. Who the hell ever going to work it? >> She was charged with felony shoplifting and obstruction and also had two outstanding felony warrants. The male suspect is still on the run and the third female accomplice still unidentified. In Georgia, felony shoplifting and obstruction are serious charges. Each can carry 1 to 10 years in prison. Depending on prior offenses and circumstances with two outstanding felony warrants, her legal exposure increases significantly. The male suspect remains at large and the third female accomplice is still unidentified, leaving the investigation open. Even seasoned shoplifterss can't outsmart coordinated surveillance and determined officers. Crimes may seem easy until they come crashing down with felony charges and lasting consequences. >> 6 months dead. On August 27th, 2023, what started as a simple shoplifting call at a Champ's shoe store quickly turned into something much bigger. A suspect had stolen a pair of Air Jordans and taken off on foot, leading officers on a brief chase. When they caught up, things got tense enough that they had to threaten him with a taser just to get him to stop. >> Get down on your knees. No. No. No. Get flat. >> Get flat. I'll roll. I'm going to discharge this taser. Please get on your knees. >> I'm on my knees, sir. I got him a taser point in the bathroom in the back already. >> I do I do [ __ ] over there, man. >> You get up, you're going to get zapped. >> I'm not getting up, bro. >> Please see those two things. >> That's where them probes going to go. I'm not trying to I can't breathe, man. Please, please. I'm begging you to go. Can you please let me go follow your shoes? Please. Please. I'm begging you. Please. In the name of God, man. Please. I'm sorry, bro. Please, man. >> Where's the bathroom? Please. >> I'm in the back room right where >> this side. >> Don't even move. >> I'm not moving. >> I see you getting up. >> I swear to God, I can't move, bro. >> Fingers on the trigger. >> Don't worry about it, man. I'm not. >> After some emotional pleading and resisting, the suspect finally gave in. Officers recovered the stolen shoes and placed him in custody. At this point, it could have ended with a citation and a trespass notice, but he chose to dig a deeper hole. >> Lay down. >> Okay, >> lay down. >> All for some shoes, bro. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. Don't move. >> 43. I'm on scene 29. [Music] Let me go, man. >> That's up to the other officer. You're under arrest. Please go back to my >> on your side. >> No, I'm on mine, too. Any other on you? >> No. >> All right, pick your knee up over here. >> I can't move. >> You got to help a lot. >> I got you. I will. Ready? Sit down. >> There you go. >> Here. Ready? One, two, three. Oh, there you go. Yeah, I did. >> I told you, man. You can't You probably cannot run me with that nice guys. I'm going to grab the witness >> to show up. >> Man, bro, >> you're under arrest. >> You're under arrest. >> Where's the shoes? Where did he put the shoes? >> I don't have the shoes. >> Yeah, >> you got his shoes. [Music] She said, "Where the beeping is?" I'm like, "The beeping is coming from everywhere. I don't know better directions." >> My guy was mad. >> I told him I was like, "I got to go." And he's like, "I like I've been waiting here. >> You don't need to stay here. I'll get my phone." [Music] >> Simple shopping with a ticket and test pass. Now you're going to go to jail. >> Dang. A good idea. I can talk to any person. >> Instead of cooperating, he refused to give his name, forcing officers to fingerprint him to confirm his identity. That took things from bad to worse. >> All right, here we go. All right, man. What's your first name? >> Oh my god. >> It's easier if you tell me. Now, we're just going to have to fingerprint you. We'll figure out that way. What's your first name, man? >> No. >> You got a lawyer? >> I'm not asking about anything, but >> he also tried to argue that he should have been read his Miranda rights before being arrested. Officers patiently explained that Miranda warnings are required before questioning, not just for putting on cuffs. Mean >> before you read me my rights. >> Yeah, that's how it works. You don't get your red right. You don't get your rights read before you get placed under arrest. You get arrested first and then your rights get read. >> So I don't know what you think this is, but >> I didn't do that. >> Then do what? >> In there. >> You didn't arrest me and then read me my rights. >> Well, that we read your rights after if you're placed under arrest. >> You placed me under arrest in there and didn't read me my rights in there. >> Yeah, they didn't ask you any questions either. >> So here we go. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law. You have the right at this time to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you are being questioned. Can't afford to hire a lawyer who won't be appointed to represent you before questioning if you wish. can decide at any time to exercise these rights and answer any questions. You understand? You understand your rights? Yes or no? Okay. Since you were just talking to me, I'm going to assume you understood it. What's your name, man? We can also just fingerprint you if you don't if you don't tell us. >> I don't have any. >> Oh, perfect. We'll go from there. Do you want to talk to me about what happened today? Okay. >> This thought process with brand is quite quite skewed. Good people trying to argue with them. People's playing that game. I'm just playing out. >> Yeah. I'm like he's like, "You're supposed to read my rights first." I'm like, "No, >> you don't get your rights read if you're not under arrest yet." >> It's custody and interrogation. >> Yeah. >> I'm not asking any questions on YouTube. >> Well, I was asking for his I wasn't even asking him about anything else. He said like, "I need a lawyer." I'm like, "Okay, let me see where you're probably." >> Yes, he does. I think. >> Did he have a belly gun or anything? >> No. >> No. >> Then came the bombshell. During the search, officers found a firearm in his bag that turned this case into a felony level investigation. At that point, he was read as Miranda writes again. The real kicker. Turns out the man is a convicted felon and that firearm possession is a federal offense for someone in his situation. >> Like so sick to my stomach, I'd be laying in bed going, "Oh, what you got? What you got?" Okay, hang on. >> No, it's not a triple light. >> Is that a swing? Is that a >> Yeah. >> Oh, dude. That is a That is a switch. >> Okay, >> awesome. Go ahead and take the magazine out. [Applause] >> Oh, it's a 22. The man, realizing how serious this was getting, asked if he could call his mom. The officer told him that call would have to wait until he got to jail and was officially booked. >> Just so you know, uh, I know that you you've had your Miranda rights read to you, correct? >> I read his right. >> You did? >> Yeah. You didn't want to talk. >> Okay. So, just so you know, you are at this actually going to be a felony investigation now, um, due to that firearm. Do you understand? Also, I'm going to let you know that this is a notice of trespass. You are not to come back to the mall. If you will, you will be subject to arrest. Okay. Okay. >> Sir, can you just allow me to >> What's up? >> Please let me call my mom. >> Nope. >> I know you're in your mode right now and you just don't like me. >> Yo, my mom's old, bro. She don't like that. I just >> uh No, man. You'll have a you'll have a chance to call someone from jail. If you don't have money, >> you're you're you'll have the chance to call someone from jail. Dude, >> she don't take >> I don't even text her name. >> I understand that you want to call your grandma, but you should have thought of that before you did all this. >> My mom >> or sorry, your mom. >> I understand that you want to call your mom, but >> my mom. That's the thing. I need to let her know. >> Well, unfortunately, today you made a decision that doesn't doesn't allow you to take care of her. Yeah, but why why let somebody else suffer? >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Hey, you you guys already had to shoot. >> The real kicker. Turns out the man is a convicted felon and that firearm possession is a federal offense for someone in his situation. >> The item that you were looking for out of the bag, correct? >> Uh-huh. >> And then all of a sudden, you find a firearm. >> Oh, yeah. So, listen to this. So, uh, here's what happened. They found the bag with the shoes. Yo, >> I'm going like, >> did he did he say he's invoking or is he still wanting to talk? >> He He's not saying but he's wanting to know how we found the guy. >> Okay, >> if he's willing to talk about what happened and all this stuff, that's cool. He's waving his rights, but just >> cuz now he's questioning you. >> Yeah. So, it's good. You don't want to wait. >> Yep. So, you've already you've already basically invoked because you didn't you didn't answer those questions earlier. So, I can't talk to you about what's going on today anymore. Okay. >> What started as a simple shoplifting charge quickly escalated into a far more serious situation involving weapons. The man, already a convicted felon, was found in possession of a firearm equipped with a select fire accessory and illegal modification under federal law. This significantly heightens the gravity of the case. Due to his criminal history, he now faces the possibility of up to 10 years in federal prison. It raises important questions about how strictly the justice system should penalize felons who are caught with firearms, especially when illegal modifications are involved. Even minor crimes can spiral into serious federal offenses when firearms are involved. For convicted felons, possession of illegal weapons brings lifealtering consequences.
