Friday August 9th 2024 4:15 p.m. police are in pursuit of a white Kia Soul that was reported stolen stealing a car in today's day and age is dumb to begin with but stealing it at the start of Rush Hour well that's just plain stupid there is a pretty interesting twist to this Pursuit however stick around to find out what makes this Pursuit different than almost all others pursued of the vehicle and they lost track of it and then a short while later the sheriff's dep from Cars Compton Sheriff's picked up the Chase and that's when the pursuit was continuing on the 91 freeway eastbound got off on surface streets for a while went back westbound on the 91 got over to the 110 freeway went southbound and then now uh exited off the 405 freway northbound but here we are on Hawthorne Boulevard uh the pursuit continues here very dangerous situation the driver is desperate to get away Running Red Lights you saw him clip that vehicle on the off ramp but uh running the red lights and here goes all the way across line he's got heavy traffic here we'll see what happens this is going to be Marine I believe and he's stuck there but uh let me come out wider and show you as he's stuck there in traffic uh no units directly behind it because the pursuit started on the freeways and moved its way to the city streets the police remained patient however so as not to create a more dangerous situation attempting to stop someone fleeing police with far more vehicles and pedestrians on the road due to rush hour traffic on a Friday night is very dangerous to the public does he know that there's a police Chopper up ahead even though he's not being followed by any Vehicles right now yes okay yeah definitely oh look at that boy right through that intersection luckily that car stopped in time but yes there is an Airship overhead that's been tracking of the pursuit all along here so the driver seems to be aware of that fact and uh at times during the chase he's had Police or Sheriffs behind the vehicle and that is even more motive for the driver to continue driving the way he's driving but he's into this uh parking or shopping center here he's going to come back around there and we'll see yeah kind of close there I think that's a Target yeah this is a very popular Shopping Center in um right next to Manhattan Beach I believe so this is going to be very crowd yeah very crowded he's going to go into a neighborhood now left turn Northbound turn this is going to be Washington Avenue and and this might be an opportunity for the driver and we believe there's several passengers in the vehicle as well uh for them to bail out we'll see if that happens no units directly behind it still but this the Airship overhead keeping keeping track of the vehicle and we appreciate the assignment desk for working hard with LAPD to try to get a confirmation for why this person is wanded um I know Gail you mentioned they believe it's a stolen car this started about 4:20 this afternoon and it's a Friday afternoon schools uh out but maybe after school care so we're always worried about families children walking in these residential areas we saw them going 72 mph through what looked like a residential before turning into that Target parking structure he's not slowing down for those dips in that little Kia Soul there but he's erratic driving opposite sides of traffic as you see there multiple times blowing through red lights uh Crossing in front of people very quickly we saw them already um hit the back or the front end of one of the cars driving through an intersection even with the police following the suspect in the sky and not tailing the vehicle the suspect makes some incredibly questionable Maneuvers and almost wrecks the car several times into innocent drivers and pedestrians this car to be going through these dips at such high rates of speed you see it getting whipped around back and forth there as I mentioned we saw him going 72 in a residential there he's going opposite sides of traffic going around people at stop signs this person Gil I think you said it well this person is desperate to get away from police absolutely look at that look at this mess he made that right turn and a quick left right through all that traffic uh on elund Boulevard he's going to continue there on I believe that's Cedar Northbound and uh unfortunately we can't keep up with it right now we're keeping our distance due to some air traffic issues uh but we're able to keep it with the camera here uh but look at that over the bumps that car is not built for that no well if it's stolen they probably are not used to driving a car like that and every time I watch one of these these it's always a good reminder when you're driving on the streets even if you have a green light I find myself looking pausing making sure cuz that's such a fear that one of these reckless drivers in a Pursuit can just blow through the stop sign and and clip your car and really just have to be on the defense at all at all times um oh my goodness going so fast again this is uh LAPD uh was originally tailing this person in a uh what we believe is a stolen car happened around 4:20 this afternoon this person has gone from the 91 eastbound to westbound to the 110 to the 405 gone through laale now in Hawthorne they've Run Red Lights gone in opposite direction of traffic uh we seen them go over 70 M hour in residential neighborhoods and Courtney I know we just did a Pursuit kind of in your area last week and uh they just drove through a Target shopping center pretty fast Yes except in that case which ended up being that serial rapist uh that was being sought after for 30 years in Boston who knew that driver was a lot more polite which I feel is easier to watch this always gives me anxiety when they're they're driving reckless like this because especially at this hour um we're coming up well we're in rush hour Friday traffic it's getaway time for many people going you know leaving the the city for maybe a weekend getaway and people are out running their erand after work they just got paid they want to shop and look at gosh this reckless driver just driving through all sorts of places where where people are this is a very popular area and Gil is is this driver headed towards the beach oh my goodness no he's actually going into Englewood right now Northbound on hawthor Boulevard and uh he cut through that McDonald's uh I know if you noticed that there some people on foot there yeah and so now in heavy traffic back on to hot Thor Boulevard he's been on hot Thor before and uh heading towards uh well towards Englewood at this point we've seen him go through Hawthorne laale now heading toward Englewood as we've mentioned in these Pursuits over and over again people tend to go back to a neighborhood they know whether they're going to find family Escape somewhere where they know they can hide so you have to wonder if this person who's driving a stolen car ER radically is trying to get somewhere where they can possibly bail and Gil you said there were oh my goodness passengers is that the chatter that you're hearing over the scanner that there are other people in the vehicle cuz it often times tends to just be a one one Pursuit driver yeah initially we heard that uh there was multiple people in the vehicle itself uh LAPD was calling it a stolen vehicle CHP working to confirm that it is a stolen vehicle but uh yeah we heard at one point that uh there was uh more than just the driver in the vehicle this is so dangerous he's driving opposite direction of traffic going almost 70 mph there just cutting through every which angle goodness are you hearing Gil that they might try to be getting uh some CHP officers back on his tail well it certainly if the vehicle gets onto the freeway which would be the 105 freeway at this point he's heading towards it now he's coming back towards the 105 Freeway if he does jump on the 105 Freeway we will uh likely see the CHP get involved once again a lot of traffic though of course at this hour and uh difficult for CHP units to get in position that was the whole problem to begin with on the 91 freeway it was so heavy with traffic CHP units were trying to get into position and and just couldn't get behind the vehicle it kept getting on and off the freeway of course the freeway is the jurisdiction for chb uh but they will once they are once the CHP is on a Pursuit they will stick with it whether it goes on surface streets or not D I know we believe this is possibly a stolen car out of lapd's jurisdiction uh LA Sheriff's Department took over all that to say what prompted them to try to pull over or at least start tailing this erratic and dangerous driver yeah I'm just now hearing from our Simon Des Sam there he's telling us that CHP is once again trying to get into position even though it's off on surface streets they are trying to get units behind it right now and it is going uh back into Englewood now it's back into engood proper but uh going northbound here on this street but he's look at this traffic oh my gosh look at he's trying to squeeze through and again no units directly behind him so there's no pressure there for this driver to drive that way other than the the Airship overhead but the problem with Englewood in this area is uh air traffic from LAX crossing right over this area it it limits the police from being directly over the pursuit we have no idea what mental status this this driver is at right now what what substances he or she uh possibly took or could be taking right now while driving around um clearly no one in their right mind is driving uh like this um and as we always say this could be this person's last moments of of freedom for a while depending on what sort of uh priors he's had but clearly you know we're seeing him rack up violation after violation and we've already seen the driver clip another uh the front of another vehicle um but it's very uh anxiety ridden to to watch this yeah this is so dangerous it's so scary to watch especially that all these innocent drivers are out around Rush Hour on a Friday afternoon in that case for example if that person maybe was texting wasn't looking up didn't have time to stop for this person cutting them off it's so scary and oh now he's taking a turn into possibly a residential it looks like he's going behind a bank there in the Englewood area this is near is this near the Intuit Dome that's off Century might be going into a parking structure we've seen that before not far yeah not far from there and this is another shopping center it looks like a Costco he's going through right now so uh yeah choosing to to go into yet another parking lot where there's a lot of people a lot of movement of s and people on foot uh there he goes swinging through the parking lot and continuing now back Northbound but uh one of the things one of the one of the uh things tactics that the police use is going into surveillance mode where they pull the units off the pursuit he goes over the curb there look at that he jumped the curb and back onto the surface street but uh they go into surveillance mode keeping the helicopter over the pursuit and dropping the units off or back away from the pursuit so that the driver would calm down that's the whole idea is the driver would look in his Riv say okay the police aren't chasing me anymore I can calm down I can actually stop at lights but in this case this driver is doing whatever the driver wants to do and cutting people off like you just saw and just one note the windshield wipers are going off nonstop so this person is driving erratic you got the wipers going off he's going 75 almost 72 mph in a residential um for those just joining us this started around 420 4:15 a Kia Soul reportedly stolen this driver went on the 9 1 Eastbound westbound 110 405 has gone through Hawthorne laale driving wrong way running red lights running stop signs already clipping a couple cars and we've seen them go so fast in the opposite direction of traffic that Courtney you just keep saying uh it's so you get so much anxiety watching something so dangerous um but there's no entailing him right now um but he's definitely a a threat on the road so hopefully they'll choose to go back yeah Gil I heard you you're holding your breath when you're watching this cuz he's just threading the needle here yeah no reason for it I mean he just was pushing through traffic uh as if he owns the street but he's going to make that turn he's W eastbound here uh this looks like it's uh 108th Street so he going to continue in this direction uh now he's moving back towards the LAPD jurisdiction so we'll see if LAPD decides to jump in on this once again and pick up the pursuit when it gets into their area well Gil we are going to toss this Pursuit coverage over to Michael Ol Man and Sher Calvin because our hour is up for Samantha cesy and myself Courtney fril I uh will let you continue to cover it thanks for a great job up there thanks K all right Courtney Sam thank you we are W covering the same Pursuit here now on the news at 5:00 and you see high speeds here on surface streets and a question of uh when you would believe that LAPD may get involved behind this sure that's right yeah Gil leis is over in Sky five he's been following this now for about 15 minutes and what we've seen so far Gil is a lot of dangerous driving as we're looking at this uh Pursuit right now well actually we don't have any uh units behind him but we do have an Airship overhead uh but nonetheless uh for those people the motoring public out there this guy is a danger to them at this very moment in the Westmont area of of uh of South La Gil that that's right Sharon Micah you see him driving on the wrong side of the road unfortunately we can't be over it due to that that LAX air traffic we're shooting it from the 105 freeway but he's continuing eastbound heading towards the 110 freeway and into lapd's jurisdiction so hopefully the LAPD will pick up this Pursuit surveillance mode really isn't working in this in this Pursuit look at this wrong side of the road into traffic we you know right through those cars it's unbelievable yeah this driver clearly feeling a pressure and an urgency to this uh without the Heat initially behind him uh the lights and sirens and typically law enforcement will back off to try and lower the temperature if you will but in this case clearly it's not working uh they are tracking them obviously overhead uh Gil any indication how many people might be in this car other than the driver is it a lone suspect you know Micah initially we heard that there might be more than just the driver on board we didn't hear an actual number so it sounded like there was more than just the driver on board of course the LAPD 7 7 division they were the ones that first got on the pursuit tried to pull it over it took off on them and that's when the pursuit started they unfortunately lost the vehicle and then the sheriff's picked it up the Compton Sheriff's picked it up in their jurisdiction a short time later that's when they picked up the pursuit and continued on it was on the 91 Freeway East and West for a time and ended up on the 110 freeway south to the 405 North and made his way all the way over here through Englewood and now here into into the Westmont area but the driver continuing to Drive eastbound a high rate of speed in this neighborhood very dangerous situation uh for anyone out there so if you see them coming stay off the streets whatever you do don't go out in the road yeah uh stay off the streets if you can uh with your vehicles stay off the streets if uh if you can um you know this guy has no um is is going through intersections and blowing through them and so uh if you are a pedestrian you should beware as well if you need to go out maybe you can change your plans right now um if you are in this neighborhood it it is quite a large area that he's covered so far like you mentioned from the 91 Freeway East and West to the 11 10 South and uh the 405 North and then through Englewood and and now Westmont um and and as he's making his way through these neighborhoods clearly uh he's trying to get away even though there's no one behind him uh but he must see the airships that are overhead and have their eyes trained on him right now and uh wanting to do what he can to uh elude authorities but there he goes blowing through another intersection and at this time of night it's it's so dangerous you know we have so many people that um are are coming home from work uh probably picking up their kids from after school since it's the first week of school um and uh you know you just want to do your best to try and stay indoors right now if you can and while you're at it lock your doors and your and your windows uh just because you never know when this kind of person might want to foot bail and uh find your house as a place to seek Refuge not but look at that high speeds again through stop signs very dangerous situation this driver I'm not sure what the driver thinking nobody behind him no LAPD knows CHP but yet he's hard on the gas here he comes up to another Major Street let's see if he runs that and he cuts that car off he's going to go underneath the 110 freeway now here's an opportunity for the driver to ditch the car or make a u-turn Keep It Wide to make sure he doesn't come back uh and we could watch both sides uh and so far I don't see him popping out so might have ditched it under under the freeway there yeah and we've seen this happen in the past where uh suspects being uh tracked from the air are able to oh got him get away by essentially pulling into a parking garage under a bridge but in this case it looks as though the suspect uh is continuing on uh and again very dangerous and desperate Behavior by this suspect uh and again we believe there may be uh multiple suspects in the car we have not confirmed that a stolen car Pursuit this was initiated by the LAPD 77th division uh they lost the vehicle it was picked up then by sheriff's deputies in the Compton area uh and at this point it is only being tracked from the air and you see that aspiration with a suspect here again driving a stolen car uh and there it is the little white box car there the that's moving at very high speeds uh clearly a threat to the motoring public a threat to pedestrians uh and and anytime you see driving like this on surface streets uh the danger increases exponentially uh you want to see this on the freeway frankly if it's going to happen when you have cross traffic like this it's so very dangerous and a driver here uh that is that is just as desperate as can be moving at speeds like this on surface streets eastbound yeah definitely Micah this is a very dangerous situation you know the driver was underneath the 110 freeway for a little bit and then popped out so there's a chance that if there were passengers on board they might have jumped out uh while they were under the freeway at that point but here he is going Southbound turn this is going to be a sap Pedro and uh we'll see which direction the driver decides to go next I no he's going to get continue eastbound here is there any Rhyme or Reason to how he's driving around these neighborhoods like like he's circling looking for for a place to uh foot bail or or is it pretty random pretty random we haven't seen the driver in this area yet he's been going pretty much uh zigzagging through the city not really staying in one place in particular I do notice that he's pulled into a couple shopping centers a couple of parking lots he's done that in the pursuit before we got to the pursuit he was circling in in a parking lot for a while and then left but uh so other than that no he's just kind of randomly choosing streets and continuing that way he has yet to develop a pattern which makes it much more challenging for law enforcement in terms of trying to go offensive whether it's a spike strip or or trying to anticipate where the suspect may go next uh it it has been without a pattern to this point as the suspect moves through surface streets into these neighborhoods moving at high speeds and again our restrictions due to LAX airspace are making U the angle of this shot more challenging for us and that explains the distance uh we're doing our best to to keep our eye on it here uh as we continue to track it La enfor again overhead and and nothing on the ground for for the past several minutes since we've been on this uh at the top of the hour but you see there it's virtually every intersection this driver wants to go through it without stopping yeah I'm working with my pilot to try to uh see if we can get back over the pursuit itself it's very difficult we're shooting it from a couple miles away uh but uh at this point he's Northbound uh behind the homes there let's see if he pops out he's going to go eastbound yet again that's actually helpful for us as long as he keeps going that's Hooper that he came off of there and he's going to go wrong side of the road let's see if anybody's coming nope that's good but you got to remember a lot of kids out on the street we did see a ice cream truck driver going through one of the neighborhood streets he went right by that vehicle and he Wonder Boy I hope no kids come running out for the ice cream man yeah uh that that we definitely hope uh won't happen and um hopefully this is uh you know there will be no injuries here um as he you know threads right through that uh through those two cars and and all this traffic um you know and you wonder you know look at this really close and he's already clipped another car uh and then back out uh weaving literally in and out of traffic right now uh and now he's stuck I think he hit that car oh gosh did he are we have you guessed what the twist in this Chase was not even the newscasters knew as they referred to the suspect as him the entire time however as you're about to find out the suspect in this case was a female he's coming out this isn't good okay here we go oh it's a it's a female female it's possibly a female bailing out nobody else jumping out right now she's got a backpack uh and on foot fortunately not trying to carjack anybody that's good but here we go Compton Avenue southbound and we'll see if she pops out on this other side of the building or goes into that building yep there she goes there she is yeah and a question of whether there's an accomplice nearby uh often times we'll see that jump out of one car into another and it continues on law is law enforcement in in the vicinity on the ground Gill have you seen any Black and Whites I have not seen black and White's at this point uh and I lost her behind the tree here hard to say if she jumped into a car or is still on foot maybe went into a property I believe she's still on foot um yeah I think right right around that tree yep you got her you got her right behind that white ttin there she is MHM trying to blend in right now uh but wow she really I am hearing CH yeah go ahead sorry I am hearing CHP talking about her walking down the street so they're trying to get their units in position she's definitely in uh the LAPD uh area right now she's looking like she wants to hitchhike and uh that's a good look at her right now as she continues down Compton Avenue boy uh for the last half hour so she really uh has been doing a lot of damage and have had a lot of people on edge in this community for sure especially if you're watching and this is your community um you know with all of the people coming home from work and school at this hour and all of those drivers and clipping one she attempts to hitchhike her way away from the scene but luckily no one stops to help her out that doesn't stop her from almost getting away however car uh as she was exiting the freeway clipping another car it looks like just there uh before she did her foot bail and now we see her trying to hitch a ride um and uh disappear but we have eyes on her and law enforcement is right above her as well uh with a clear description of her so units on the ground uh are moving into the area uh she will be fairly uh easy to spot if if they can get close enough uh at this point you saw the congestion on that Surface Street she ditched that stolen car uh right in a line of traffic you know right right in a line of of a of a two lane road so and there was a long line of cars at a stoplight and she was essentially right in the middle of that line of cars when she jumped out so you have an abandoned vehicle now uh in the roadway as well law enforcement will be dealing with that but certainly priority one will be to get this suspect into custody as they continue to track it from the air it's very difficult as we've seen to outrun law enforcement from the air um and particularly when uh you're on foot un unless you're going into a building uh into a large structure where you can blend in this is not the place for that it's a residential area uh and a lot of people are out and about right now if this is your neighborhood again doors closed windows shut doors locked uh don't come outside this person is desperate uh as evidenced by the driving she's been doing uh since we've been over this it is remarkable she didn't hit somebody uh with more Force she did clip at least uh two cars that we have seen one getting off the freeway another one right before she jumped out of this vehicle uh so her desperation is there uh it is present and here's video now uh from just a couple of moments ago uh when we saw the the just the erratic nature of her driving and it gives you uh a window into her State of Mind here uh as law enforcement has yet to close in on her as she's now walked several blocks from where she abandoned that stolen car yeah just reckless driving as you can see there um on your screen earlier uh the video that we were able to capture and um you know this at this point we saw her trying to hitch a ride you know she keeps on putting her thumb up as she was walking down in the middle of the road there and I'd be surprised in this day and age if anybody would actually stop and give her ride so she's uh continuing to walk in whatever Direction She's going um trying to find a way to to hide uh from authorities but uh like we said we do expect um authorities who have information on her and also the Airship over her uh to put her to uh Place her into custody um and any any moment now well here she goes into an apartment complex down the alleyway LAPD units were trying to get into position maybe she spotted one and uh is now turning into that Alleyway there between apartment complexes but it takes the police quite a while to close in on the suspect she takes the time to find her way to an apartment complex and disappears from the watchful eye in the sky this makes the job of the officers much harder we lost her there in the underground parking we'll see if she pops back out but uh in the meantime LAPD is sending units here 90 96 in Compton we see she pops out here this may well end up being a perimeter situation with law enforcement if they can't get eyes onor uh they know the vicinity they are overhead uh and they have a city block containment line uh in their mind certainly at this point that they would want to establish uh before they can zero in on this specific buildings within that perimeter and bring the suspect into custody but again very dangerous a desperate suspect in a stolen car uh driving erratically hitting a number of cars along the way that is not our suspect but the last we had eyes on her she was adjacent to that pink building there that apartment building that looks like a three-story apartment building uh that that is up against an Alleyway so tight quarters uh and much easier for a suspect to disappear from the eyes of law enforcement in the air yeah it looks like there's some people that are gathering there uh on the sidewalk around that pink building and you wonder if maybe perhaps they're trying to grab some video social media of the suspect but uh not advisable even we do see that um on occasion where these uh Pursuits come through a neighborhood and and or a foot bill whatever it might be and uh people trying to uh get video for their social media but it's best just to stay indoors and and we do see that uh it seems to have a lot of people that are in this building at the moment somebody on the balcony um people that were going into that door on the back side of the building um and again we're trained on the pink building right now where we last saw the suspect go into the parking um parking garage there uh underneath yeah I'm seeing children in this area uh which is troubling on another level you've got a number of children running uh in and around this building and again the suspect is in white jeans uh with a black and white top uh and law enforcement had a very clear picture of her for several blocks as she was walking uh obviously law enforcements overhead so as they're guiding uh units on the ground into the area Gil any sign of law enforcement on the ground well uh CHP helicopter overhead trying to direct LAPD units into this apartment complex we're hearing that uh them talking about scene what we saw the the woman going into this parking structure here in this third thre level apartment complex off of Compton Let's see we got some activity there some people pop popping out that's not her but uh they believe that and feel confident that she's still on this property somewhere yeah it looks as though that alley is a dead end right if you look between the buildings you can see the dumpster and it looks like a cinder block wall separating that property from the adjacent property not that it couldn't be scaled uh we have not seen that as of yet but the longer this suspect goes uh you know without being seen the greater potential she might disguise herself and change clothes and and appear as you know somebody else on the surface yeah I mean there could be a laundry um area there somebody could have left clothes that she might be able to change into or she could maybe perhaps uh you know steal another car that is parked um underneath uh this building um so again here is what it looked like earlier about maybe 7 minutes ago uh we when we we actually got onto the scene uh about at 4:46 and so for about half an hour it was Mayhem watching this woman here's the end of the pursuit there where it looked like she may have clipped that van in front or or the car behind her and decides to foot and start uh walking on Compton Avenue and uh Avenue and there she is um so that's what she looks that's what she was wearing uh as she came as she did her foot bail and made her way down Compton Avenue over to this pink building that we are um overhead now and uh while she was on that street again she was trying to hitchhike nobody stopped for her uh doing her best again as we've been saying desperate um you know to to get away um so here we are now um live over our live picture trying to see if she'll pop out from uh that garage under this pink building but so far she has not and we're also waiting for law enforcement to arrive yeah they're overhead uh they've been circling the area but on the ground the units have yet to move in uh it it appears as though the people that live in this building know something is up there's your address 9547 Compton Avenue if you live in this area again not advised to be outside stay inside that being said we see this very building where this suspect is and a number of people ga Gathering outside so obviously they know something's up there's law enforcement on the ground the first unit's moving in now uh and that is an LAPD unit in the front followed by CHP uh they're clear on the address and obviously they're going to move in uh and do what they do but again uh this may well require a perimeter if they're not able to find her if she's still in that building last we saw her she walked beneath it what looks like uh sort of like U uh maybe Subterranean parking maybe that's just ground level parking but right in that alley is where we last saw her some 5 minutes ago yeah so you just saw those two units pull up um and it looks like the way that they're parked that they're going to well I thought that they were parked a little bit more um perpendicular but uh yeah they're interviewing some people there CHP and um also LAPD I believe um and you know they're doing uh their surveillance of uh what they're going to do next clearly a perimeter will be set up to try and close in on this female suspect uh that went on the Run uh with some reckless driving in a stolen car any indication what law enforcement may be planning here uh the their strategy uh seems to be sort of uh on their heels I mean now you see the CHP officer running uh maybe he sees something uh that we don't but uh what are you hearing de that's exactly where we lost her right where he turned in uh we're trying to get more information from the CHP on this but they're pretty confident that she did not leave the building I hear them talking about it right now and uh they're going to lock down the apartment complex they're saying they're going to put a perimeter like you said Micah and she around this uh neighborhood to make sure she doesn't get out of that perimeter and then close in on her so we'll see if she maybe like is trying to hide in that parking stretch or hiding in the car maybe made her way like you said into uh into one of the apartments or maybe the washer and dryer area we'll see if she uh they end up catching her here with that one officer that went in there right now but you can see uh the two units they're blocking the street and so far no movement coming out of the building at all let's here let's see we have the officer going around the other side he's going to check that side it's possible she could have jumped the fence out of our view but uh but the Airship was overhead they're pretty confident she stayed there and clearly people uh were uh were a Ware that something was a foot in their area long before law enforcement showed up on the ground they were gathering in front of this building uh on the sidewalk uh and boy now running on the yeah maybe she was able to enter through that back uh door that we saw other residents um you know go into and and somehow we missed it but um it looks like they're going inside the building with urgency and perhaps uh they may have found her um hiding somewhere in a stairwell or uh what ever might have you there but uh it looks like they they have some information that they're going to be able to apprehend her shortly all right now go la officers that just arrived yeah they're going to search this building uh unless they know exactly where she is you know again somebody saw something somebody standing out there has given officers information that they are acting on uh the the residents of this building are helping the police on scene as much as they can I'm sure most of them just want to go back to a peaceful life and don't want to deal with a lunatic endangering their lives rically recklessly and and now into this area where she disappears into this apartment building law enforcement as gills been reporting confident with their aerial surveillance the suspect has not left the scene I did I did yeah and a number of ground units now in the area you see LAPD working in tandem with CHP here on this as they try to bring the stolen car suspect into custody uh and at this point it it appears as though they believe she's in the building and may know exactly where uh I'm just getting information uh right now from our producers that uh they have the suspect in custody great so only a matter of time a couple minutes minute or so that we see her come out um in in handcuffs yeah that's why the officers were running into that that door there on the on the south side of the building they ran in there because they got confirmation that she was in the building and they do have her in custody so she should be coming out here shortly yeah and what a wild one this was as we've been showing you uh it's been uh coming up on 45 minutes now uh she has been alluding officers again this was a stolen car Pursuit for much of this time at very high speeds uh on the 405 the 110 and a lot of time on surface streets in the area of South Los Angeles uh and into the Westmont area where we saw her blowing through intersections with Reckless abandon and very very dangerous driving she clipped a couple of cars it not to the point where somebody may have been hurt uh but certainly a headache for a driver that doesn't want to deal with something like that now they're faced with this situation uh but this this woman this female suspect in a stolen car bailing out of the car in gridlock surface Street traffic and walking for several blocks to this building here uh well just to the right of what you're seeing on our screen here law enforcement moving in LAPD and CHP on the ground uh and again with uh actionable intelligence that they're going to move into that building and our understanding is that this woman is in custody inside that building where we last saw her uh just maybe 10 minutes ago yeah we're waiting uh for that visual of her coming out of the building in handcuffs as we saw uh several officers on the building adjacent to this um doing some kind of a sweep looks like uh a security sweep if if you will um but we have been trained on this one building here where you see uh several people probably residents of this building um outside and you know these are one of those situations where you just wish that everybody would go inside I mean this is you know a crime scene a crime investigation you know you you just want them to be safe um and uh you know this is uh this is what we're waiting for is for her to come out here um and in custody and I'm sure that the rest of the neighborhood is as well Gil any word from law enforcement as to whether there may have been other people in that car that may have jumped out under that freway overpass they really haven't mentioned it at at this point I haven't heard any talk about uh checking under the 110 freeway so it's unclear if there was actually passengers on on board that vehicle I am hearing though right now that they have her on the second floor of this apartment complex so that's where they made the arrest she should be coming out any second here but uh she did make her way up onto the second floor of that apartment structure and now we're just waiting for her to come out but yeah it sounds like so far they haven't really talked about any passengers uh in the vehicle that bailed out underneath the 110 freeway yeah and that car that she abandoned uh you know probably still on the street with with its door open running uh and uh again she abandoned it right in the middle of rush hour traffic um in a two-lane uh uh Surface Street um just a few blocks from here and when she abandoned it uh we saw her just walking and frantically looking for anybody to pick her up uh when she was hitchhiking um so that she could get away and then she finally decided to Hole up in this um building and somehow made it to the second floor where they have a arrested this female suspect of this stolen vehicle and we're waiting a visual on this suspect to come out of the building we saw our walk uh in the vicinity of the building some 10 minutes ago law enforcement 5 minutes later came on scene on the ground they've been circling overhead confident she's in the building but again we have yet to see uh visual confirmation that this suspect is under arrest this is again LAPD and CHP working in tandem on this stolen car pursuit in a suspect very unusual that you'll see a suspect get out of a car in in a Pursuit like this and just begin walking and that's what she did she walked for several city blocks uh with her thumb up trying to hitch a ride nobody stopped she continued to walk and then decided at some point she was going to turn off the road and disappear into this apartment building which she did and we have yet to see her come out law enforcement we're into understanding that they have her in custody on the second floor but again we have not seen that yet uh obviously people Milling about and Gathering May well have been the intelligence that law enforcement needed to find her so many people in the area a stranger walking into the area uh you're going to notice something that's up law enforcement walked up and began asking questions and within 60 seconds they had a bead on where she might be so again eyes and ears of the community in this case it appears paying off Gil all right we're going to continue to track this the suspect though in custody uh here in the Westmont area of Los Angeles after a stolen car Pursuit news in South La where an injured Pursuit suspect has been taken into custody let's go to Gil Avis over in Sky five Gil Sharon Micah you see her here on the gurnie they just pulled her out after about 20 minutes inside of that apartment complex off from the second floor she had some sort of injury she was able to walk out but she was assisted by the CHP officers and the paramedics to get onto that gurnie and now they're about to load her onto that rescue ambulance take her to the hospital that's the latest overhead
