Now to the Treasure Coast tonight where police say a disgruntled student at a flight school intentionally damaged at least 10 airplanes there. But Sarah Height tells us it is not the damage to the aircraft that has the sheriff so concerned. This is where the suspect was arrested Monday afternoon just outside Martin County Airport. Police say the damage he did to at least 10 planes here could have led to a catastrophe. The sign on the door at Treasure Coast Flight Training lets everyone know they are temporarily closed. They've grounded their entire fleet. Their whole operation there is shut down because of what he's done. He is this guy, 23-year-old Sumeb Singh. Police say he was a student at the flight school and showed up Monday expecting his first solo flight and went into a rage when he was told it wasn't happening. behind the passenger seat. Yeah. A lot of damage. Yeah. Anything in your backpack? on moment right now. You're going to be detained. I'm going to speak to you and go from there. What's all in your pockets? Anything crazy? Say it again. We We'll do all that mail. Okay. What's What's this one here? Look at that. You can wait a minute. Okay. Let me talk. Let me tell you what's going on. All right, just chill out. Wait a minute. I have a procedure that I have to do everything with. I'm going to read you something real quick. Look at me. What? [Music] But you understand why we're here. What's going on? You are a student. Okay. And like you are not like and he's my money, it's all about like he's not around. So what did you do with that? How many aircraft? How much money? Can you show us which aircraft so we know? That's kind of where I don't know where I don't want there to be an aircraft damage that we don't know about. Take photos of everything. Rolling them. He said there's about 12 about anything. They just brought them up. I just before we do anything else. Okay. Oh, with whom I Yeah. Can he show us all the airplanes? Cuz so that way we know. And what will I open up? You're being placed under arrest. Criminal vandalism. And after that, you will be placed under arrest. You'll be taken to the Mark County Jail. And then you're going to have a bond. I don't know what the bond's going to be. Um I'll be able to tell you then. Then you can bond out and do all that. And then you're going to ultimately be in charge for paying them back the money, stuff like that. Like how much prison fees? How much? What? Prison time? I I don't know. You you'll be able to bond out right away once they get you booked in and then you're going to be able to go to court and everything like that. You're going to be able to go to court. Nobody knows what what your jail time is going to be, if any. We don't know. So, you may be able to work something out with them with all you. Okay. Huh? I think these handcuffs off. Are we going to have to hurt you? Are you Are you going to cooperate with us? It's a yes or no. Are you going to cooperate with us? Oh, that makes each one. Yeah. You run or you don't listen to where we say we're going to take. It's going to hurt. Uh, is it possible to talk to him or like it's not? We will in a second. We We'll talk to them. First, we want to see which airplanes cuz we don't want them to crash. Okay, so let's start. You want to walk or take a How far away are they? Are they all over the place? Okay, let's walk. Yep. Show us which ones. You didn't do nothing to this. I This is This is You did damage this. What did you do to this? Yeah. Actually, the other door will open. Okay, let's go to the other side. [Applause] You said it's bent. Oh yeah. Like you bent it like you pulled it towards you. You cannot pull inside like this. What? You cannot push it inside. Oh, you can't push it inside. I see. I'm going send that. You got that passport? Send it to Jason. That one too. As far as identifying them, it's going to be off that tail number, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You can uh That's the from the end model. Is that what you did to the one? That's all the damage. You were pulling the pin the lever back. That's good. That one died. This one, huh? Over here. Could it crash you? No, you can place it in ground. It's damaged. All right, back up over there for me. Yeah, this one definitely bent. Yeah, like that one's like all the way down. All right, so he said what was the other one? Fox trot. Was it one fox trot? Is that what he's saying? Is it 31 fox? That one. This one right here. So you said you said a,000 a plane. You said a,000 a plane by like how much it cost? Yeah. I have no idea. I just fixed it so I have no idea. That's the box thinking. That one. That one. That one. That one. We should probably just check and make sure. Let me check this one real quick. Heat. [Music] Heat. What does it what does it cause? What happens when it when he bends it? Like what does this cause? What does this kind of damage cause? Well, pretty much if you're on the ground, nothing happened. But if you're flying, let's say, I mean, that's the main power. That's how you get the power. That's like a throttle. You're not in a car accelerator. So if you're in the air and you push that thing in, it doesn't go in. And no, if if like he did it here, you're not going anywhere. it cuz it wouldn't start in the first place in that one too. If it's up in the air, I mean you're going down. No, no. Yeah, this one's dead. Yeah. And that one's not operable. No, no, these two. What's our count so far? How many? Um, I got five. Yeah, they did another one. Big one, sir. Okay. Did he say mess with this one? He said those two. Oh, no. I don't think this one. Hey, partner. This one or No. No. Yeah. [Applause] And there on the other side of you have to walk from here. Which ones were you talking? other side of Yeah, it is. Yeah, there's the other side. We can go through here. Okay. You said that's it, correct? What you showed us already? Oh, yeah. That's I didn't walk us back to the bay. Can I talk to the when we get up there? Yeah. Y'all want to hang out with him for a second while I get everything? This one too. This one too. Hang on. No, he didn't know because [Applause] [Applause] That's what I got. Count, right? Just verify that real quick. All right. So, I got N70 JA. All right. So, what would an estimate be per plane? I don't I'm be honest with you. I don't know yet. At least 2,000 for just the throttle and and what we saw so far per airplane. But I don't know because we haven't gone through them or whatever. 2,000 for per throttle cable and the labor for I have to ask I can tell Debbie to pull one up real quick and whatever. And where are we at on the footage? Um you guys will have to get that out. I know that one would be good. He doesn't want to talk to you. Don't talk to me. Brett, would you like us to wait till the shuttle leaves so everyone's gone or do you want this to happen? No, just clean up. Just get everyone out of here and the drama needs to not yet all the students. Okay, we'll wait for that one. Let's see if we can get back to do a shuttle. They're kind of dumber people out of here or whatever. you like a email link? Um, email link would work fine. I'll put it out. I just don't whatever be easier for you. Yeah, that's fine. My email even if we run it for 1,200 right now. Um, I can always change it later. That's probably because it has to be over a certain amount for felony. Well, it's a plane, isn't it? felony. Anyway, I I don't know the caveat. I thought I was always told that that 10 aircraft is automatically a I I think that's a different charge. So, I think it's going to be a vandalism and that's probably going to be another charge on just just to do it. But, I mean, one plane is a felony amount of vandalism in in itself. I'm going to look, not going to lie, it's the first time I ever had a plane with me, too. So, we're in this together, which never happened. Look at that and go from there. Um I just so you I have to notify immigration and ICE and the FBI and all the stuff. He's an international student. So the phone number 860 9. How are you? Not that good. Yeah, man. Actually, I am in a big trouble. Uh but the thing is I am what I supposed they opposing me. They're opposing me in the wrong way. I did the wrong thing. I understand because I am a student here. You know country? Not very well. You can educate me. What? You can educate me. Okay. So, I am from India. I am 23 years old. I from like a good place. I am from a good family. India is a good country. India and US relations are good you know I don't know if you know but it's a good relation there are a lot of industrial of India in US around 4 million Indian US they do good jobs here they are big CEOs Google I mean Microsoft everything we are like not bad people so the thing happened is like I paid $60,000 I spy is a spider airlines in India I am a pilot program I a pilot for that airlines and I paid around $60,000. I don't know how much money is that for you but it's a lot for me. Yes. No, it's a lot of money. Absolutely. And uh the thing is I'm working in that I'm doing trading my trading from where I got arrested. Okay. So the owner dropped my FBO like I'm not able to do my training further. It is going to be uh take a lot of further time. Okay. So the thing happened with me that I like I am going like from last 3 4 months that please let me do my training because I went into bad weather while flying and happened to me that time and he said you are not you don't know how to make two decision making good weather bad weather I got stuck in a thund story not like dangerous to anyone except me and the thing is he said you you're not that good to be like a pilot like solo solo plane take a plane in the air. Okay. So the thing is like I'm not able to do my training. I'm not going to stay here. I'm going to go back and I might not not come here every day. But the thing is if I he's not going to allow me. I'm not going to proceed. I'm already 23 years old. I have to I have to education on this one. I have to pay that thing and I lost a little temper there and I damaged the records and the only intention was that has to pay the owner of the school has to pay a amount of money to repair that was just my moral of the story was like to like pay him. Are you are you paying for the school all on your own or something? My parents are paying for the school. Your parents are paying for the school. Okay. Anybody else in your family pilots or is you the first one? I'm the first one. First one. Okay. Do you have any family in town or anybody that can help you out at all or anything like that? Right. Do you have any family that live nearby or friends or anything like that? I have friends actually. Okay. That I assume they also go to the school too. They same space, same company, same program, same school. Okay. Um because you are getting arrested for this. They are going to charge you with it. The school is not interested in you paying them back. They want to go forward with charging with it. It's it's vandalism. It's criminal charge. How much judge? Uh it's it's criminal history. It is a felony. Uh you will have to go see a judge about the charge and everything like that. You can explain to him your motivation like why you did it. Um are you remorseful? I mean did you regret doing it? Like is what other than just the cost? What other than just the cost that you I don't want to hurt anyone. My intention was not like what you guys think. I know what you guys think about me about me. I think I speak clear and all I don't but I mean my intention was not that my intention was like should I mean at that time I'm not angry. No at that time I must be angry that he should learn a lesson. Yeah. I mean you also get angry. I think it's a human nature but now I think that I need something. Yeah. And they didn't allow me a phone call because all my friends number is this phone I don't remember at all. Do you have a phone with you? Uh they took all my blockage like uh I have like all my I have one. Okay. Were you able to get a phone number out of the phone? Yep. Okay. Did you try calling that number? What? Did you try calling anybody yet from the number you know your friends? No, my phone. If I get my phone, I can call my uh friends that I this kind of work. Do your friends have a number that's based in the US? Yes. Yeah. Yes. Do you did you write that phone number down? Uh where they did you write it down? No. No. They didn't give me opportunity to write it down. I'll ask them if they'll give you the opportunity to write it down. Can I have my phone to my parents in India? It's international. They probably won't be able to do that. um then you have to use a phone that's here. I don't know if you can do international calls with your phone then you can't do it. You'll only be able to call local you call people within the US. Um so that that's you probably won't be able to do that. Now if you want hopefully you can make a phone call to one of your friends tell them hey can you call my parents and then they can do that. Now your parents can call here and speak with booking booking. Yeah the booking which is where all these guys are. This is this is the booking area. Mhm. So your parents can call in and speak with people in the booking area and they they can get information about you know your bond amount to be able to get out there. The thing is my parents are not that much that good don't speak English. Okay. Actually uh they can get a guy like who like my company manager and he can get to that right the owner of the school and he can get convey messages things and but but I need to get this message to yeah to your friends I'll ask them see if they can help you out couple questions that I have from my side and then I'll see you with you. Um, first off, are there any students at the school, this is an aside from you, different topic, any students at the school that you've seen that you think law enforcement should be aware like these guys, these guys seem violent, these guys shouldn't be pilots. Anything like that that you see or everybody, all the pilots are pretty good people? uh nothing violent but they are always like pissed off at because he's like a typical businessman who like charges money and like all that but I mean they they always piss but they are not angry like not that kind that kind of angry but today because I am like from here frustrated and all and he always I went to office today but he abused me and just told him to take the rest he will happen again. Okay. Do you think any of the other pilots that work with you or that you know would also be committing vandalism or do you think they're not going to do that? I cannot be that sure. Okay. I don't I just know them. They are my friends, but not that I I don't know how they can be different. Um, yeah. Main concerns. We wanted to make sure you weren't a violent individual or that you weren't going to be doing anything else. If you if you make bail and you get out or you plan on doing anything else, seeking revengeance or anything like that. I I have a different plan. You can just as soon as if I you can just deport me and I will never come. I am terminated from my What were you I am curious. But you got your pilot's license. What was your plan after you got your pilot's license? I am in a company airlines. You can search in India. I have pilot. It's in US United States service. Okay. But it's just for you guys the US citizen citizen. So I cannot get a job until I'm a US citizen. Okay. So I have to go back anyway to my country and I have job already. So I just go there and uh do training rest of the training there and just stay there and fly there till India it's a small okay anyways I cannot just get any job here like I'm on MR visa if I don't get it's illegal so I cannot just if we do a background and we look into anything involving you friends or family or we come across anybody that's considered violent extremist or anything like that in your past relation of French boys. I have a very small circle. My mom, dad and brother. My mom is a teacher. My dad is a businessman. My brother is like a aspirant doctor in England. My friends are they are running. I have only four five friends. My three homemates and two three other guys. Those people are very okay. They are not like that. They not I don't think they have any uh that violent background because if we have a violent background, we would never get a US visa. Okay. This the rule. Okay. Getting US visa is very hard. Yeah. No, I believe it. I believe it. I have seen it personally. Oh, yeah. And what else? No. Anybody that you're friends or family with that have any type of a violent extremist activity um that are would be considered uh someone who does not agree with any situations involving um the US um military stuff, anything like that. I don't have any relative in US and I don't think uh anyone wanted to come here because everyone has good job here like I'm just here for training which was supposed to be 8 months but because of this all like school it's a very not that good it took 1 year and 8 months and it is supposed to take 8 months and since we are not since we are on M1 visa we are paying out of our pockets we Yeah. I mean, you cannot uh do a single job here if you are on a visa. It's a illegal. Mhm. Uh so it got you stuck cuz they know you can. Yeah. And it's it's a lot of money. We can do that. Like I told $60,000 seems a lot of money. Yeah, it is. No, it absolutely is. It's a lot of money. And I don't know. And getting some kind of that kind of behavior out of your CVR and we just save for renting nothing else. That's okay. And I don't think that we are supposed to treat it like that. No, I I don't think anybody should be treated like poorly. Um but I know that they are very upset about the damage you did to the uh they want to uh they will judge this damage on me. Yeah, I'm sure that'll be part of it, man. Um but that'll be up to the judge to decide, you know, exactly what they're going to do with it and everything. So I'll I'll go back over to them and see if I can give you a One more thing. Will I get a lawyer or something? See, will I get a lawyer or something? Take a lawyer. A lawyer. A lawyer. Lawyer. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. And when I get one so I can talk first appearance, they'll they'll you'll have a conversation with the judge. Um, at that point, they'll either sign you a lawyer unless you already have one. That'll all happen. Uh, not today, probably as early as tomorrow. And one more thing, uh, does that semi? Yes. If you don't bond out, so what they do is they they're going to set a bond. It hasn't happened yet. They're going to set a bond. Let's say the bond is $10,000. You can either pay $10,000 or you pay a bonds man 10% typically. So he'd want $1,000 bucks. So you pay the bondsman $1,000. He pays for the rest of your bond and you get out. If it's $5,000, you pay the bondsman 500 bucks. He pays the rest. If it's $1,000, you give him a h 100red bucks. He pays the rest. So it depends on what your bond amount is. It's either what you can pay or you pay a bondsman a smaller amount and then he pays the rest. Who the bonds? They'll have a list of bondsmen that you can call. You just have to pick one and um just say, "Hey, this is my situation. I need to pay to get out." And then they work with you and it's up to them. They they don't always have to work with you, but if they want to, they can work with you and um they they help you get out. And one more thing, what's what's the what's the worst that can happen? Uh felony. I mean, it's it's up to the judge. Um how can I prove my sentence? Like I don't have any intention to hurt anybody. No, I understand. Yeah, we don't believe that you have any intention to hurt anyone. We believe you had intention to damage property, which is what you did. And so like something like this for you, I highly doubt you will go to jail. I highly doubt likely there may be some probation.
