Only cams provides body cam footage for transparency and educational purposes only. What started as a road rage incident between two strangers quickly turned deadly. Both drivers pulled into a gas station and in just seconds 17-year-old Gage Anderson was shot. Police arriving on the scene desperately trying to revive the wounded body while the suspect, later identified as Skyler Burley, fled the area. Who all was here and saw it? Right in on me. And he jumped out and he had his hand in his in a black sweater. A hoodie. He had his hand in there. He goes, "Tell us your problems." And he goes, "You got something to say?" And it's like try to like hit a try to hit a He goes, "You You want to shoot me?" And he said, he [ __ ] that's when I hit He gets out and he try to hit him again. He jumps out. And then when he jumps out he grabs a hold of him and then he just ran back and it was like pop. I think this is out of road rage. It sounds like you might have cut somebody off and then they flew up on their butt. I was like, "What's their problem?" He's like, "I don't know. They must be mad about something." So he pulls in here to get gas. Yeah, we got it, sir. Long story short, it sounds like they cut somebody off over at Briggs and Emmons. Pulled in here to get gas. They followed him. Confrontation at the driver's side. Authorities received tips about Skyler Burley's possible location and are now actively pursuing him. He got out of the big car. As soon as I was like, "You need some help?" And they need some help and I went to walk over. I know. See, I'm going to as I went to walk over it was pow. Seventeen-year-old Gage Anderson, who had just graduated high school, did not survive the shooting and news of his death quickly spread through the community. The tragic incident sparked shock and outrage as details of the road rage encounter between him and Skyler Burley emerged. >> Investigators say this is the spot where Burley shot and killed 17-year-old Gage Anderson. >> There was a shooting in this area and that was really surprised for me. Those in this community heartbroken of the news of yet another deadly shooting in the city. Patricia Cordova operates her food truck right across the street from the crime scene. We were off just last yesterday and a friend called me last night if we were here and we told them that we were off and that was really sad news for us. Investigators say the deadly gunfire was a result of a road rage incident. Apparently, Burley and Anderson didn't know each other prior to the confrontation. It is unfortunate because you never know what drivers around you are thinking or feeling, and things can come to an unfortunate conclusion because someone escalates their feelings or behaviors when bad things happen in the community, and we're urging for the public's help. This is a perfect example of when the community comes together to assist not only us as a police department, but the victims and the families involved in situations like this. >> We are on the record in 2024 CRA 13384 State of Ohio versus Skyler Eugene Burley, capital murder. I've accepted the notice of appearance of counsel and declaration of intent to exercise constitutional rights. Facts? Thank you, Your Honor. Um I have no leads information for this defendant and no local uh history. Um let's see here. We have not been able to contact the next of kin. Victim was a minor in this incident. Um we did send a text. The Amy's Law factors were that uh defendant has access to deadly weapons and used a weapon in this incident. Um according to the information, CB uh CPD response to a shooting, a witness stated that um his uh his son was the victim and defendant had gotten out of a black Kia and shot his son um who was a juvenile. Victim was unresponsive at scene um and suffering from a gunshot wound, pronounced at 8:40 p.m. Uh defendant was subsequently arrested. Um he had briefly fled the scene. Defendant stated that uh defendant did state that there was an argument over um a traffic incident and stated uh that the victim had made a lunge, and then defendant respired uh responded by uh firing on the victim. Skyler Burley was later arrested and charged with the murder of 17-year-old Gage Anderson. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison with parole eligibility after about 18 to 19 years, closing the chapter on this tragic road rage incident.
