On June 27th, 2025, a shoplifting incident at a Kroger in Akron escalated into a foot chase and the use of a taser. The suspect, Billy, was reportedly acting erratically, interfering with customers' vehicles and asking people to pay for his items. When the woman he approached refused, Billy fled the scene with the unpaid merchandise. First of all, his shoes came off and then he went I thought behind the pillars I thought he was going to throw off then he got that kind of back together. He came in, he went got some body armor, tried to walk out with it and he couldn't get a receipt. Then he asked people to pay for it for them. And then like another customer just told us when she pulled in she tried to tried the door handle to see if they were locked. And he broke I something I don't know what. Okay. Another employee's down there. He was walking funny, whatever, and his shoes fell off here in the middle or off of his book bag. He just left them there. So, I knew something was wrong. So, then he walked over there behind the pole and I he wasn't in sitting in the chair and he wasn't steady, but he went behind the pole. I'm like, "Are you okay?" I thought he was going to get sick. He didn't. Then he kind of walked and got his shoes. And then he came inside and I told one of the other cashiers keep an eye. She's going to the liquor. Let me know. But, I guess they reported he was in aisle 15, but then he comes up with body armor. Um a six-pack or six bottles, I'm not sure what. Um and she's like, "I need your receipt." So, he didn't like he looked for it, didn't have the receipt, then started asking customers if he used his hands if they would buy it for him. Then he gets up and comes back and that's kind of when I called dispatch. Another lady had come up to me. She's like, "That guy tried to get into my car door." I thought that part. She He tried to open her car door. I don't know who the lady was, didn't recognize her, whatever. Um and then he was just kind of wandering around the parking lot and that's when he showed up. He was walking down that way. >> He didn't do anything or was it that way towards anybody? I did the food. So, did you see him try to get into somebody's car? No, I as you said, I was standing out on the sidewalk. I You already even showed up. It was just you. And then I walked by and she goes, "Oh, that's the guy that was um trying to open that my door of my car." He had tried to ask the girl to buy the stuff for him. You'd already asked Yeah, the stuff um for him and she said no and got scared in the face and then when she left, he went to like follow and he says that she had bought for him and I said no she didn't because he said or she said no she wouldn't buy it for him. No, it's just that he was wandering around the parking lot. I just after the lady here, I don't know. I just thought I'm just going to puke over there and I didn't want to run it in and out and somebody had already told me he'd been in once in before I spotted him. Okay. Yep. And his face. Billy was struck by three Taser probes, causing him to fall and sustain a significant laceration near his eye. In the end, he was transported for medical treatment and later booked into jail.
