On June 24th, 2024, officers responded to JC Penney after loss prevention detained two suspected shoplifterss. Store staff reported nearly $500 in merchandise removed and placed around the store. Officers located both suspects in a holding room. When officers tried to speak with them and conduct a search, one suspect refused to stand and actively resisted commands, forcing officers to use additional control techniques to gain compliance. The other suspect cooperated after being identified and questioned, and an interpreter was requested for language assistance. Both suspects were searched, secured in patrol vehicles, and transported for processing while officers completed the theft and resistance reports. No bystanders were injured. Investigators collected surveillance and witness statements to support the case.
