On June 7th, 2024, officers with Alaska State Troopers received a call in reference to an aggressive brown bear with two cubs. According to the report, the bear attacked a dog and was eating trash at a residence. >> My dog. >> What kind of dog you got, Keith? >> Any two of them? We just got back from training. >> Huh? Do >> you see them right? >> Yeah, they're right on top of the driveway. [Music] There's three of them. >> We're going to shoot them. We see them. We're shooting them. >> Okay. >> They broke in. Well, is this open? >> Hold on. up here. Right up there right up in [Music] You see him right here? Mom and baby. Right there. Literally. Yeah. That was baby or mom. >> Mom. >> Is that mom? >> Yeah, mom. >> I want to go down. >> I think it was mom. Stand by. Just hold on. Stay right here. Because if that was a big cub, mom's going to be pissed. We want the high ground. >> Yeah. Dispatch here 27. Uh, one shot fired, one bear down. Uh, clear emergency traffic only. [Music] >> You got eyes on the cubs or you just hear them? I don't see anybody. >> Dispatch, here 27. I'm like 90% that I just shot the S and there's two cubs. Can you contact Bthoon at Fishing Game and see if there's permits available for Fortress of the Bear to do a cub capture? Hey, Lance. Do you still hear them? >> No. And I don't hear I didn't hear them run. >> No, I heard I heard brush crackling like right down here. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm thinking they're probably not going to go very far. Are they little? Did you see them? >> They're bigger than I am, but uh >> probably pick one up by myself. >> So, are they this year's cubs? >> Yeah. Well, maybe. Yeah, I think >> so. I'm thinking maybe we should go around right here. What address are we at? >> I have no idea. >> Dispatch, CR27. Also, be advised we are at the next residence down to the south from our complainant. I believe it's a top of the very steep driveway that's marked four-wheel drive only. >> So, here's the deal. I'm going to see if I can flush them back up to you. If I walk down along this road down here, they might come back up. >> I got real limited visibility. >> We need to get over here. The woods are more open. >> Yeah. >> Who Who you working with today? >> Coming from that way. >> Who you working with today? >> I got [ __ ] board. >> Can you still see the one you hit? >> Oh, yeah. I hit her right in the head. Oh, good. >> Yeah, she looked up at me and I pasted her. So, yeah, the report that they've been aggressive from Keith Reeba, who knows bears, and they went into a house. Yeah, these are dead. >> Yeah, dude. That's a steep hill. >> There they go. Right there. I just saw the stick moving. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] Mitchell quick. >> Yeah, coffee. Hey, Mitchell Sier 27. I'm going to be on the in the woods on the south side of this driveway. You got him. >> Yeah. Yeah. I don't see you anymore. Good >> loading. >> One more down, >> I believe. So, you >> Yeah, come to me. Okay. So, I believe they're both laying there dead. >> Okay. >> See how we got this little this little gully right in front of us? >> Yeah. >> And then there's like a little hill like 20 yards away. >> I see it. >> They were both right up against that little hill. One was kind of screened by these devil's club. >> Gotcha. >> The other was at the base of that hemlock tree, screened by the other devil's club. >> And it peaked out and I shot it as soon as I had a window. >> Both were partially obstructed, but both boiler room hits, I'm sure. >> Okay. >> And I think they both just collapsed. But >> let's go take a look. >> So those shots a couple minutes ago, I think I have both cubs down. We are going to be moving further in this direction on the outbound side of the uh driveway. So, you'll hear us crashing around in the woods up on the hillside. Uh there should be no more bears alive. [Music] >> Okay. I got one laying there not moving. >> I'll wait for you to come up to me. >> Okay. See right there? I don't see him. Oh, I see him. Yeah, that was the one. Should be one on the left. I think so. I think they might both be right there. [Music] Yeah, correct. Both of them. Dispatch, here at 27, we're code four. All three bears accounted for dead. Huh? You just stepped on us here. fish. Heal all three cubs are down or all three bears. Three bears down. [Applause] >> Well, that almost looks like the S, but the other one looked big like the S. >> Yeah, that was hell of a shooting on your part, buddy. Good job. >> I've done this a couple times before. >> Yeah, I can tell. Got 375. >> Yeah. Yeah, that one. I I'm I thought that was the S. The first one I shot right in the head. She was looking up at me and I was like right there. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, decision points are >> once I saw them inside the house. >> Yeah. Number one, a complainant who we have reason to believe from their outdoor experience knows what they're talking about, says that they're being aggressive and then they've gone in a house. >> Yeah. >> Garage door open or not, >> we cannot have them going in the house. >> Yeah. >> Oh. Oh, I'll be uh off record. >> Ashley, this is Kyle Ferguson with the wildlife troopers. Can you hear me? >> Yes, I can. >> Okay, so looks like you left your garage door open today and uh a brown bear with two cubs got into your garage, raided the trash, and acted aggressively towards the neighbors. And they have both or they all three have been shot and killed now. uh one off your deck and two in the woods kind of outbound from your house. >> Okay. >> So, um you're not going to be able to pull up your driveway cuz we've got our our tech truck uh just short of the driveway. So, um as you're getting here, why don't you give me a call and if we can get the truck moved, we will. But really, we got to get these bears out of your uh yard basically. Yeah, I I can um just park at the bottom and walk up. That doesn't bother me. >> Okay. All right. Well, uh one of them I shot from your hot tub deck. It's right below it. And then the other two are in the woods. And we're going to be uh working on on getting them out of here. >> Oh, man. I wasn't even aware we had them out and about over there yet. >> Yeah. >> So, all right. >> Okay. Okay, we'll see you in a bit. >> Okay, bye. >> Bye. >> The cubs were determined to be secondyear cubs. The bears were salvaged as required by regulations and the hides, claws, and skulls were turned over to Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
