Billy, calm down, bro. I'm compliant. I'm compliant. If you move, I will break your face. Okay. I'm sorry. You understand me? Get the Stop it now. Now get off the car. Get out the car. The police are meant to serve and protect. For this reason, society holds them to a strict standard. While their job is to catch the bad guys, in some rare circumstances, that leads them right to their colleagues. And when good cops discover their partners are criminals, they can expect to face justice just like everyone else. On August 8th, 2024, Deputy Ditto witnessed his fellow officer, Officer Joseph Harris, violently beat up a prisoner, Billy Cororum, who was begging for medical treatment after he ingested drugs and felt immense discomfort. What's going on? [Music] So you out you all right? Billy, you all right? Dispatch, we're stopped on Willlet Road. Yes, let's go. Yeah. Watch out. He's trying to itself out. Hey, come here. We need to All right, we got him back awake. We're out back to the jail. Have the nurse downstairs waiting on us. 21. Let us know when y'all have any security in the sal. [Music] Yeah. Okay, we're back. Moving now. No matter how you look at it, officer Harris's treatment of Cororum was unacceptably violent. Under no circumstances should you ever punch and hit a restrained suspect, especially one who's in need of medical assistance. Next, the officers drove hurriedly toward the station. Plot boards. Go [Music] You good? His head's on the other side. Punch me in the face in the back of the car. Where's that? [Music] He took off running from hospital to the hospital. Yes. Yeah, he did. Where's Foster? He was still up in the room, I guess, whenever JPD caught him out in the streets. Did they send me back here with my goddamn body? The nurse said your your test come back clean. Did it? He's on the goddamn X-ray dude with the hit me in my face while my cuff you inside. Inside inside your calm down, bro. He attacked me in the back of the goddamn car. You don't want to catch no more charges, man. You got enough. Look at my face, man. I know, dude. Why was your handcuffs me to beat me in my head? Well, it's all on body camera, so calm down. I'm sure he turned that off. Just calm down, brother. Beating a suspect when you think nobody is looking is one thing, but doing it in front of multiple officers is a bolder display of stupidity. After witnessing that, there's no doubt in our minds that officer Harris should be immediately fired. Understandably, Cororm was wound up and needed to be restrained for everyone's protection. Stand up. Stay in, man. We're going to have the nurse. We're going to have the nurse check you out. Get this off of him. I'll take this off you. Okay, Billy, cuz you're hot. I know. Somebody grab this one. This one. This one, man. Off my wrist. God damn it, man. Stop break my goddamn hand. I'm trying to get it off. God damn way. [Music] You going to be around here a while now. You have family. I don't give a dude. You were released from the hospital. I don't get. Yeah, they come in there and lied to me. Deck in my face and then when I b the goddamn doctor in there as do I pointed it to him. I said, "What's that?" I got a goddamn football. You're a liar. Yeah, I'm lying. Go ahead. Yeah, I'm a liar. I'm a liar when I die. While Corm continued to shout about being mistreated, other officers had a word with Officer Harris. Given that everything was captured on body cam, he was going to have a lot of explaining to do. Are you hurt? I know. What? Trying to start another. I know. Not trying to like Only reason I had to punch him is cuz he trying to shoot. I was just I know what I'm saying is from here to here like I'm not here to rob people up but I was trying to help out and with him coming at me that's the only reason I pushed them I didn't do that anger I just wanted to come and tell you I was pushing you back you're my y'all are you okay your hand all right no I was big I don't care about I don't care about that I yeah I don't care about all the I just want to make sure you're all right yeah I just want you're all right. Hey, I love Yeah. Everybody that's involved this, can y'all email me a statement borrow charge felt? So, um, which is citto cricade county.gov. Yeah. They they hollered at me and said they're going they're going to charge you for fleet uh for escape. It's unclear whether or not the officer was covering for officer Harris or he simply wanted to stay out of it and let his superiors handle things. Either way, once that body cam footage reached the higherups, it wouldn't be good for the abusive officer. I understand. We always have tension JP in the jail and I want you to like No, I know. I'm I'm I'm Today's my last day. I'm going to jail. Really? You going to work with me? Yeah. Okay. But no, I Well, from my point of view, I obviously I can't see from behind. I seen him go up to you. So, I took him this way. Then I seen you lunge. I didn't know what you're trying to do. So, I was just like, "Hey, I got it. Just go." From my perspective, about the time he lunged at me, I got to have my When I went out, then we have right now out of Mississippi because he went to the hospital there, but they don't have officers that sit with you at the hospital there. Small department. Yeah. They let security watch you and when security when security calls and tells him you're done, you pick him up. Craw window up there to escape. That's what he tried to do here. He bolted out the door. I guess I I don't have the full story yet. It appeared as though the other officers were willing to turn a blind eye. What they should have done was let the officer know that his behavior was downright despicable or at the very least immediately reported it to a supervisor. To be fair though, it can also be a difficult position to be in when you have to call out a fellow officer. Godamn, I don't want to die. We're going to let you die. Listen, we're going to have to calm down. Okay. Yeah. We're going to calm down. We're going to talk. I haven't seen you in forever. I know. I've been a year. It's been a while. It's good to see you though. You look good. You look like all that good stuff. all them calm down cuz when he stopped he said I jumped out the truck activate my camera again and he said he's talking get up here and he dying to sleep calm down then he tried to punch him again here so you got to calm down a little bit okay take some deep breaths let's get where we can get a Bible reading on you can't get one right now you got to calm down you're sweating why'd you try to run away from the hospital because they're like you're getting released and I'm like what she's like yeah you're getting released I was like, "The guard trying to punch me." Y denied seeing it and I'm looking dead at it. Then I told the the the doctor I made him bring a doctor in there. I said, "What is that right there?" She said, "Looks like something's coming through your mouth." She said, "It's been on my shorts trying to find a piece of bell and couldn't find it." Yeah. They tried to say, "Oh, it's the chain around." No, it's goddamn not. Well, guess what? Getting your blood pumping faster, getting your blood pressure up, it's only going to make if something's in there, make it faster. It's going to be worse. Calm down. Calm down. We'll be all right. The camera in the backseat of the cruiser showed officer Harris repeatedly punching and striking Cororm. He also slammed the cruiser door on Cororm's head twice and forcefully shoved a stick into his chest. Officer Harris was fired the next day for egregious conduct and the FBI and Arkansas State Police are now investigating. On February 19th, 2024, a police officer witnessed his partner get into a brutal struggle with a 14-year-old boy in Columbus, Ohio. Put your hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. [Music] You hit my face. Hands behind your back. Dude, please. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You can sit right here and wait. All right. Please. Don't do it that hard. That's tight. That's tight. That's tight. I'm compliant. I'm I'm break your face. Okay. I'm sorry. You understand? Disregard. I'm bleeding. Where you at? I'm bleeding. My face. 1376. All right. Stop. That's my uh That's a torch. All right. Sorry. All right. I'm going to do it again. Yeah. Make sure you don't have a gun, brother. I don't got a gun. I don't got a bro. You you all right? Yeah, I'm all right, bro. The kid was traumatized after the officer slammed his face on the concrete. But considering what just happened, he took it like a champ. The suspect was right when he told the officer he was being too rough with him. He was just a 14-year-old kid after all. And believe it or not, the officer wasn't done yet. Dang, you didn't have to do my face like that. You didn't shut down any sexes. We're fine. We're fine. Bro, y'all got to y'all pick up my AirPods and my phone and my All right. What's your name, bro? And can I grab my AirPods and I'll get him later. All right. Hey, Wagon's back here. All right. See, you don't have to do that. All right. All right. All right. Chill, chill, chill. Once I'm not letting you run away, I'm getting you in the cruiser safely. You know what I'm saying? All right. Well, all right. Separate your feet. You have one chance to listen. The officer was going way overboard. Virtually every interaction he had with the boy was inappropriate and was a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was absolutely unnecessary for him to grab the young man by the hair and drag him to the cruiser. Considering the boy wasn't resisting. Separate your feet. Why? All right, bro. You didn't even put these on me, right? Failure to comply under arrest. All right. Let me get some gloves cuz you're covered in blood. You got AIDS? No. Hey, look at me. Look at me, bro. If you spit or anything, I'm going to charge you a felony. You understand? I'm not trying to spit. You got I got blood in my mouth, bro. Hey. All right. No cussing. Chill. Separate your feet. Look at me like a man. Chill. No, you just Bro, put your hands on me. Can y'all go grab my stuff? We'll get your stuff. Just Just listen. Focus on this for right now. Focus on this. Just listen what he's saying. Okay. You got anything on you? Poke me stick me on me. Damn. Why you taking my mouth like you grab that? Grab it a second. Chill out. Oh, look out. Separate your feet. Oh yeah, you're a son. You're a son. Keep them right there. Oh my son, bro. You tugging my Let me help you here, buddy. Let me get those cuffs on you cuz you're tired, bro. Look at how no. As if the physical abuse wasn't too much already, the officer hit the teen in the groin. The fact that he behaved this way in front of his fellow officers was shocking. Officers need to do a better job of speaking up when they see such blatant abuse of authority. After all, the police are there to serve and protect, not abuse the people they're sworn to protect. Well, like what is you on there for? You're looking for You ran. I'm making sure you don't weapon on you. You're not going to find nothing on me. I'm making sure you don't find nothing on me. You're not going to me. We need to backtrack it off. Was that with that, bro? Can I get switch? I do not want to go with this. I don't trust this. Oh my god. That's not how this works. I do not trust him. What the [ __ ] You unlock the thing. Turn it back. Bro, I do not trust you. You I'll help you in a second, bro. Oh my gosh. To the right of the playground. What did you have to do this for? Like you ran from us. All right. But you still don't have to. I am a law enforcement officer. You don't have to let him go. I think that way. Hey, will you let him go? Yeah. Come here. That says police. Can you read? Yes. I'm a Columbus police officer. When I stop you, you have to stop. All right. You're now failing to comply. All right. All right. You're under arrest. All right. You need to make it to Roger or on the street. Okay. Are you okay? The boy was right. Just because he ran from him doesn't give him the right to rough him up. Furthermore, he wasn't failing to comply either. He failed to comply when he ran, but complied after he was caught. Yet, the officer continued to hurt him. Thankfully, following an investigation, the officer was terminated. On November 9th, 2022, police officers conducted a traffic stop on a young driver whose father happened to be driving behind him. However, when the father began recording the traffic stop, things took a turn for the worse. You need to be behind this traffic stop, watch my son right there. He was following me to fall. Okay. He's on a traffic stop, though. You don't need to be behind it. You got to be mean. Oh, I'm not being mean. We just don't like when people pull in behind us. I don't like That's what we get paid to do. To pull people over. You don't get paid to be when you don't either. Okay. I don't got to put up with your Okay. I asked you a simple question. Okay. Is that you need to leave now or you're going to get charged. It's that easy. I asked you a simple question. If you have a attitude, that's your problem. Okay. On my door. Yeah. You saw me and you rolled your window up when I came. Hold on a second. Okay. You rolled your window up when I walked up. Okay. So, I knocked on your window. Okay. You are not a cop. You don't need to be behind you. So, you need to leave right now. You don't need to do anything. 5 seconds to leave. Okay. There's no reason for you to be behind this traffic stop. No reason. Okay. No reason. Okay. It's not a public reason. Do I not pay tax? Do you always stop behind cops when they pull people over? I ain't slept right behind him. Okay, you don't need to be here. You don't need to be here. Okay, you need to go. No, I don't. I'm waiting on my son. He's Unfortunately, this seemed to be power tripping more than anything else. Even though the man had every right to film his son's traffic stop from a distance, the officer was annoyed that he challenged his authority. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it got a whole lot worse. after the other officer approached the father's vehicle. Get out the car. Stop it. Stop it now. Now get out the car. Get out the car. Get out the car. Stop it now. Now. Get out. Get out of the car. Now get out of the car. Hey. Hey. Do you see this? Get out the car. Do you see this? Get out of the car. Do you see this? Are you recording that? Yeah, we're recording it. What the hell do you think you're doing? I ain't doing anything. Yeah, you're on a traffic stop and you're trying to drive away the car. Call state patrol. Has nothing to do with anything. Okay. They don't have jurisdiction over us. Get out of the car. No, I got my truck. I don't give a [ __ ] Put it in park. I just did, pal. That was awful. Don't pull away from me. You're going to get lit up. Okay. You're going to get lit up in my arm, man. Hold on. I'm going to get out. Get out the punch you're playing with. Well, that escalated quickly. The other officer didn't even know why the man was there. What made him think he needed to draw his service weapon was anyone's guess. Either way, thankfully, the man wasn't shot. Get out. Hold on. Now, I'm cleaning now. I'm not under arrest. Get out. Turn around and face the truck. You're under arrest. Okay, guys. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your What the heck? I'm going settle down. What's going on here? God damn. Get the back. Get back. This dude's fine. He can do all he want. This is crazy, guys. God damn. You do what you're told. All right. You think it's okay just to roll up on traffic stop and not do what you're told? Now you go to jail. Not to worry. I'm going turn around and face the club. I'm already coughed. There's no question about it. The officers were far more than a little out of line. The father was just lucky that they didn't shoot him that day. After placing him in cuffs, he was dragged to the officer's cruiser where things escalated to another level. Now, let's go. Let's go. You need to settle down. Get in the car. Get in the car. Get in when you are. Get in the car. [ __ ] Get in the This is Godamn. I don't Get back over there now. Tasing the man when he was already in cuffs was unjustifiable. And believe it or not, the arresting officer wasn't done yet. By this point, only one thing was for certain. These officers would have a lot of explaining to do after this footage became public. Do you have your wallet on you? Don't do that, man. I'm going to get you. I'm going to pass search you now. Get out. I got my wallet. Get out now. Get out. Get out the car. Okay. Okay. This is how it's going to work. Okay. You're going to do what you're told to do and that's it. Stand up against the car. Spread your feet. Come on, guys. Stop me. Come on, man. This is ridiculous. Well, quit acting like an idiot. I mean, acting like nothing. I got a You guys goddamn face. Quit grabbing my arm. Lean up against the car. Jesus Christ. Spread your feet apart. I can't get him. [Music] Jesus, I thought you guys were [ __ ] And that's precisely what abuse of power leads to. Because of these officers actions, more and more people lose trust in law enforcement. Indeed, one bad apple can ruin the entire bunch. Open the door. The car got out. cross out the car. He guns it while I'm holding on to the car. So, I had him at gunpoint. Then he puts the car in reverse, backs up almost 6 car while I'm still holding on to the car and tried to get him out of the car and he kept he had the car and drive and he accelerated but it didn't go away. So, I hopped in the car seat belt. You suspect? Yes, we ran it. Send a toe for the We tried to uh get him out and he was refusing and then when we tried to put him in he was refusing. So I gazed him but he fell back. So one hit him here, one hit him in the chin or something. So what happened? Come and take a look at him. And then I tried to get him out to pass search him and get his wallet cuz he wouldn't tell me anything. And then that's when that's when you rolled up. Okay. I'm going to get him over to the jail. I'll have to meet you at the jail. Okay. [Music] The father, later identified as Kenneth Espinosa, filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Los Animus County Sheriff's Office and the two officers who pointed a gun at him and tased him 35 times. The sheriff's office settled the lawsuit for $1.5 million. Officers are sworn to serve and protect. When they break that oath, the penalty must be harsh. The public needs to be able to place their trust in law enforcement. And when an officer breaks that trust, the whole department suffers. That's why justice must be served swiftly when good cops discover their partners are criminals.
