Is there anything in this bag? >> NO. >> I got three kids in me. So if something wasn't unseen, did you not see me? >> This is where decisions that seem small end up carrying a very real price. Three stories, three characters, and one thing in common. They all believe they could outsmart the cameras. A mother who just happened to forget to scan a few items at selfch checkckout. A woman dressed like a nurse, but far more interested in the lingerie counter than saving lives. And this is the moment shoplifterss realize one small decision can come with a very big cost. Welcome back to the series Selfcheckout Magicians. Today we're heading to Walmart on June 8th, 2025, where one mom turns a family shopping trip into a bold experiment in selective [laughter] scanning. It starts like any normal checkout. But when asset protection reviews the transaction, it's clear this wasn't a system glitch. This was intentional skip scanning. The essentials paid for the higherend items somehow slipping straight into the bag. >> It's all clothes so far. >> So she's purposely not doing any of the clothes. I'll show you. >> Okay. All the stuff that you can keep one. >> Thank you. I didn't know that. >> Man. So they are scanning all the food though. >> Yeah. So this is the shirt and shorts that she does. This is just an very It's That's what it all looks like, by the way. And then she'll do it [clears throat] again with the clothes here. There's going to be some grocery items on there, but that's because she's >> That's just her. She got like Did that not miss again? >> It didn't. It Some of it has been >> some Okay. >> Yeah. >> But then others like it was paused and she's just like just >> And then And then when she was going to go scan another grocery item, that's when she asked for help. >> That's just her doing everything. >> Yeah. Dude, I want to say this lady used to work. >> Watch the technique. She carefully scans the groceries, but when it's time for clothing and those pricey snow crab legs, her hand suddenly forgets where the scanner is. >> I think she's going to try and leave. Yeah, >> they're leaving with the whole without paying anything. >> Look, she's yelling at them >> for what? Who's yelling? >> The This lady looks like she's yelling at them. >> Do you pay her? >> I don't know. I can't tell. So she hasn't pay for anything. >> She has Yeah, it would decline. I got 400 something on the top of the clothes that are under ring. >> I think she is going to keep dropping. >> Oh my god. >> She yelling. >> I think she's yelling at the register. >> Everybody there in the store. >> Oh, she got a receipt. >> You guys stop her. All right, here they come. Get up. Get ready. >> Why can't you guys? You should do it. You should get yelled >> at me. Hey dog. >> Watch him turn back around. Watch him turn back around. Stop them yet? She's still in the back. Oh yeah, >> man. I bet they come out this way. We can go back to office. >> Yeah, you >> want to matter me. You're D2. You call the shots. >> We'll go back to the office. >> The only reason why I'm here. >> Yeah, he is. >> I'm sorry. >> Hello. Can you step in there? >> Okay. You go in there and take a seat on the bench. >> You got your ID on you, ma'am? >> Of course. >> I didn't realize it was nothing for you. >> That was unpaid for, honestly. >> All right, ma'am. Are you still living on? >> No, I'm going to do it. >> Okay, I'll grab that new address from here. >> All right, I got to read you something. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court or in other proceedings. You have the right to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions and to have him present during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you free of any cost to you before any questions if you wish. >> Okay. >> You understand your rights? >> Of course. >> With those rights of mind, do you wish to speak with me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, what's going on today? >> I didn't understand that I didn't pay for anything that I >> When police step in, the struggling mom script activates immediately. excuses start rolling out. >> I got three kids in me. So, if something wasn't unskinned, I it was not to my knowledge. >> Okay. So, I've been in here for a while and I've been watching. So, I saw we did was the clothes, >> the crab legs and stuff like that. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, I saw everything, right? >> Okay, that's cool. I have I have money. >> Okay. So, you scann those items. >> I scanned the clothes. >> No, you didn't. >> I did. I watched you. You're not. >> She even insists everything was scanned despite video showing she never once brought certain items near the scanner. 10 items all accidentally missed. That's not a coincidence. I just went right over. >> It's not even an argument. >> Okay. >> Is money tight or >> H? >> Is money tight or what? >> Yeah, money is tight for everybody. Money is tight for everybody. But >> yeah, no clothes were scanned. What's the reason for that? >> Cuz I felt like I scanned it. My kids were right there. Monte, did you not see me scanning? He was right next to me scanning. >> Okay. You see the cameras? We're going to go back and look what you did with the t-shirt. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, you see how you don't attempt that at all? That's what kept asking the birthday. >> I don't what? >> You didn't attempt to scan the t-shirt. >> Where the t-shirt at? >> Right here. I'll show you again. >> So, you see you take the bag and then you take that, scoop it right over. You don't attempt to scan that at all. >> What? Those t-shirts are black thing. Yep. >> Okay. >> So, all this stuff right here, all this clothes, same way. Okay. So, why is all the clothes just so happen to not be scammed? >> I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not >> You're not going to lie to me. >> No, I'm not lying. >> You got it. You got it, police officer. You got it. I'm not going to argue with you. >> We're not here to try and [ __ ] you in any way. It's mainly the fact that we've been watching you while you were standing. I'm not I honestly felt like I stand. My son was right next to you. >> I understand that you feel like you stand there, >> but all the clothes I >> Okay. And I can still pay for them. >> When she asked to just pay for it, officers remind her of Walmart policy. There's no steal now, pay later option. Once you pass the last point of sale unpaid, the comeback window is clear. >> So, how Walmart does it? If it's not standing, you walk past the final point of sale, which you did, they're not allowing you to purchase that. >> Okay, >> that's just their policy. That's how they do it. >> Okay, that's true. But >> we're here constantly everywhere. So, >> in the book, >> I've came to the store multiple times >> and I've heard that, but that doesn't change anything. >> 100%. I'm I'm not honestly I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm not trying to argue with you. I thought I scanned them. I have three kids. My daughter is constantly talking to me. You can see that throughout the video. If you open the video up louder, if you open it up wider, you can see her saying, "Mommy, mommy, mommy." >> So, she was just saying, "Mommy, mommy, mommy." Kind of closed. >> Okay. Thank you, Anthony. >> I I feel like you're you were trying to justify some [ __ ] >> I mean, I just look what it looks like. I understand. I understand. I understand that. >> But I feel like I feel like you're trying to justify some [ __ ] Like I just told you I can pay for the clothes. >> Well, you should have done that when you had the opportunity. >> So, >> do you have your receipt? My mom say >> so. We're all human. I understand that. >> We all make mistakes. It happens. >> And that's what I'm trying to say. Like, I'm not I'm not done. one or two items completely understand. I don't think they've gone through all the items yet. But when I look at a pile like that, I don't consider that an accidental thing. >> Mhm. >> Nobody accidentally forgets to scan 10 plus items. >> That's just not realistic or logical in any way, shape, or form. >> Mhm. >> So, what we're trying to say is if you came here with the intention, I understand you have multiple children. I get it. It's not easy raising one. I couldn't imagine raising more than one. It's a lot. I understand that. Come on. >> Yeah. >> So, I understand that. >> I'm not under arrest, sir. >> So, what I'm giving you is a nose to appear. So, technically, you're under arrest just without going to jail. So, you'll have a court date. Okay. This back for you. Okay. So, 9:00 a.m. Tasel County Courthouse in Pein, July 15th. Okay. You'll have to show up for that. If not, they'll issue you a warrant. Okay. All right. And so I got to search your bag since you are technically gun arrest. I got to search you. I'll just search it. Hand it to me. >> I'll give you my bag. Okay. >> All right. Well, they're done with you. So, you guys are free to go. Okay. >> All right. Thank you. Yep. >> Can I have my receipt or you need that for for confiscation or whatever? Thank you. That $162.52 magic trick quickly turns into a retail theft charge under Illinois law. She's arrested on the spot and issued a notice to appear for July 15th. Miss that date and the next delivery will be a warrant. The lesson here is simple. Never use your kids or tough circumstances as a shield for shoplifting. It's not a game of chance and Walmart's cameras don't care whether your child is calling out for mom or not. What happens when a lecture about human rights suddenly collides with a pair of handcuffs? If something small starts with what seems like a harmless act, how far do you think it can go? It begins with a report of retail theft. But instead of keeping it subtle like most shoplifterss, our main character chooses a unique approach, walking around, talking to herself, even stumbling into a store cooler along the way. Can I help you? >> Yeah. Yeah. Go and put your stuff on my hood for me, please. >> Excuse me. >> Put your stuff on my hood. >> Excuse me. Why? >> Because I've got to figure out if you're the one taking stuff from over here. >> Oh, figure out. Really? >> DON'T EVEN >> NO, I'M NOT A PROSTITUTE. I'M NOT A PROSTITUTE. I'M NOT A PROSTITUTE. You prostitute. >> I'M NOT a fan. Turn around. >> No. >> Turn around. >> You're going TO BREAK MY HAND. [screaming] YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK MY HAND. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> TURN AROUND. >> GET OFF OF ME. Get off. [screaming] >> Turn around. >> Get off. GET OFF. [screaming] >> Turn around. >> Get off. HE'S TAKING MY RING. HE'S IN MY RING. NO. F YOU. >> Stop moving. >> Shut the Keep going. [screaming] >> [screaming] >> It's not coming. I see the one, dude. >> Yeah. situation escalates in seconds. Words turn into physical aggression. >> Let the goddamn thing go. Hey man, the female detain. You can slow down. Anybody else break down the radio? All they heard was screaming. >> Yeah, I know. And then the wind, too. I was like, is it wind or is it yo? Step up. >> Do you have any injuries on you? >> Why does matter? >> Why even ask a question? Why the does it matter? >> Need to know if you want medical. >> Why does it matter? >> Stand right here. >> Why? >> So I can take pictures of it. >> I don't need it. >> Well, I have to take pictures. Go ahead. >> No. That way you can laugh at me. >> No. Nobody's laughing at you. Whatever. Those pictures are used to laugh at me. >> No, it's not. >> Why are you taking it with the phone? Huh? >> [ __ ] >> YOU'RE HELPING CHRISTINA TAKE OVER MY PROPERTIES. >> You're helping Christina. YOU WENT OVER TO >> store employees confirm she casually walked out with a backpack full of food, making no stop at the checkout. When an officer confronts her about the items sitting on the hood of the car, she launches into the classic anthem. I didn't do anything. >> Hello. Who called? >> Oh, my sister. Leah, can you come to the front, please? >> Did you get her stuff back? >> What did she take? >> I think it was just food. I'm not too sure. >> Oh, so she did take them. >> She walked out with the food. Yeah. >> What does she look like? >> She had a pink backpack and a black hoodie short. Remember the desert? I hope you people showed the up to beat the [ __ ] out of me. YOU FORGOT THAT [ __ ] >> HUH? >> Did you? >> Who? >> Between us and Be the cops would be on her. >> Yeah, that was me. >> Oh, okay. She was driving. >> So, it was it was early, right? >> Black could you see me try to stop her or not? >> Yeah. >> Did you see what happened after that? >> No. What happened? Did she run? >> No, she just started being a a bit of a pain. >> Did you want to go? Look, you have food. Send me the first. I just got to make sure I have >> I'm not for sale. I'm not a prostitute. I DON'T SELL MYSELF. I DON'T SELL MYSELF. SHE'S THE ONE THAT'S GOING TO SELL ME BECAUSE YOU SELL ME. I'M NOT a prostitute. NOT A NOT A PROSTITUTE. Trying to conceal your identity and assault an officer over a few snacks is the fastest way to upgrade your situation from a minor offense to a serious felony. >> What did she tweeting on the cooler? She was like talking to herself and like falling into the cooler and she started walking just like a bunch of food items. I asked her, "Are you okay?" And we kind of just food, but like I want to tresp you. I don't know what the acne is. She probably is younger. >> Hey, we just got a call for a shoplifting. That's all it was. >> No, it wasn't cuz you didn't even tell me anything at all. >> Okay, I'm telling you. >> Hey, ever. >> Did you start running? >> She's like, "No, I'm going to pay for this." She's like, "You're the cop. You can't stop me." I'm like, "Actually, I'm not. That would be a cool job. Like, be fun." And so, she walks out and then I was like, "You're going to pay for that." And she's like, "Well, no." I was like, "You know, it's fine. I'm already on the phone with the cops." So, okay. Okay. So, she took out that and started walking and started screaming whatever she screaming. >> Are you guys able to record the video right now or not? >> Um, I could try. >> Yeah, you can. And then I'll give you in just a second. >> Ma'am, can you stop? I'm telling you. >> NO, I CANNOT. NO. >> I'M TRYING TO ASK YOU ABOUT IT. >> NO. >> SO, you don't want to talk to me? >> No. >> Okay, perfect. >> She wasn't wanting to cooperate. So, I was trying to get her to the ground. She swung me swung and hit me on the right side of the face. >> Yeah. Not hard. More irritating than anything. She's spitting her chicks everywhere and [ __ ] >> Know me. That means you don't want to know who THE I AM. THAT'S WHO WHAT makes me who I am. That's what I'm ASKING ME AS A PERSON. YOU DON'T WANT TO GET TO KNOW ME AS A PERSON. SO THAT'S NOT MY IDENTITY THAT YOU'RE ASKING FOR. YOU'RE JUST ASKING FOR A NAME AND A BIRTHDAY, A NUMBER TO PUT ME DOWN AS A NUMBER AND NOT AS A PERSON. >> OKAY. So what's your first name? All right. You're going to be charged with concealing identity. I tried to give you a chance. You going to find SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME less stealing my [ __ ] THEY'RE STEALING MY STE. [screaming] >> So it's going to go in this bag because you're under arrest. >> NO, THEY'LL DO IT AT THE DETENTION CENTER. NO, NO, [screaming] NO. GET THE off of me. You keep THAT for your women. Then all you have WILL BE DONE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. YOU'LL BE PASSED ON WITH NO ONE EVER making you happy. EVER GET THAT BOOT CARD, YOU SIT DOWN. >> THAT'S MY BOOTSTRAP CARD. YOU GET NOTHING HERE. >> NOTHING. >> YEAH. >> Oh [ __ ] Yeah. Can you have the whole curse? >> I know it was the food for sure. She looks like >> Yeah, that's beautiful. >> Sorry. Did she eat them? >> She started eating them. That's probably what she was spitting all over me. Did >> she spit that on you? >> Yeah. Well, she was in the middle of munching when I stopped her, so she was yelling and carrying on. And >> I don't know if anybody >> What's she still from? probably breaking into vehicles. Come on, step on the first open door right here. You want to give us your name and date of birth now or do you want to take the charge? >> What charge? >> Birth. >> That is not a charge. >> Concealing identity. >> Not a charge. >> You're lawful. >> That is not a charge. >> You're a lawful. >> That is not a charge. That you're making that [ __ ] up. >> You're going to be charged with concealing identity. >> All I need is your birthday. You're making it up. But my birthday is why do you mean my birthday? >> Okay. To identify you because you're a suspect in a crime. >> What crime? >> For shoplifting and bad police officer. That's what you're being >> really [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] You're harassing me. >> If we give you >> You're harassing me. >> Okay. So, you're being harassed. >> Stealing identity as well. >> I'm being harassed. That's right. Are you cut to the bench? The Street Philosopher's performance ends with a longer thanex expected list of charges: retail theft, resisting arrest, concealing identity, and battery on a police officer. When you're caught red-handed, still munching on stolen food, giving your real name is the smartest move left. Never confuse human rights with the right to hit a police officer. If you walked into Boon Beach Mall on a day in late March 2024 and saw someone confidently dressed in nurse scrubs, what would you think? Just another shopper or someone about to clock in for a very different kind of shift? >> Hi. >> Are they still here or no? >> Yeah. Well, I mean, she walked out my way, but God knows what store she probably like jumped into or she probably like ran out the mall or whatever. She seen me on the phone and when she seen me on the phone, she started like kind of like speed walking a little bit faster towards that way. I tried to call the finish line to see if they had seen like to come kind of like outside them too to see, but we like her outside. >> What was remember what she was wearing? >> Yeah, she had a blue pants like nurse. So, blue scrub and a white shirt. >> Did you tell dispatch that or? >> Yeah, >> I gave them all the grocer. >> Um, >> she had um she had a full locker bag. So, she came originally to exchange something. She was looking at these shirts here in the front. I had already seen her. So, I came up to her, "Hey, how are you?" And then she was like, "Oh, I'm just looking." And then I was like, "Okay." And I see her looking for other shirt. And I was like, "Oh, what size do you need?" And she's like, "Oh, a medium." She's like, "But I can help myself." She's like, she's like, "I can do it by myself." And then I was like, "You're already making it so obvious for yourself." But I'm like, "Okay." So, I was like, "Oh, okay." But no, I was like, "This is my job, whatever." So, I grabbed the sack from her and I'm like, "I'm going to check the size for you." And she's like, "Okay, well, I'm looking for a medium." And she walked away from me and I didn't have a medium. So, I was like, "Oh, I have a large or a small. Which one do you prefer?" She's like, and she was just ignoring me the whole time. Like, she wasn't talking like I was like, "Hello." I was like, "No, she's like a I'm like a large. Do you want a large? You want a large?" And she just kept ignoring me. And then she my other sales associate that's here right now, she was like super nice. I was like, "Hi, how are you? How's your day? How's your" And I was like, "Oh." I was like, "Did I offend you? Do you feel okay?" and she's like completely ignoring me, whatever. So, I already knew what she was doing. So, she grabbed the shirt. I like she had in her hand. I turned a corner to help another customer. When I turn back around, the shirt is not in her hand and it's not in the pile. So, I know she walked that way, but >> No, just one one that you know. >> Yeah, just one shirt. I know for sure. I like 40 bucks probably. >> Yeah. >> She's like, you know, like I have camera footages for a while of her like she she's done this multiple times in a month. Today she's uh wearing a mask. >> Yeah, she has a like the co mask like just a mask. She has her hair like in braid. She has it in a bun nurse scrub um blue pants. >> Black female or white female? >> Black female. She's like a little heavier. She has >> bag with her. Um a foot locker bag. Oh, look. That's her again. >> Meet our main character, Blue Nurse Scrubs. Professional look, but instead of working a hospital shift, she's putting in hours at Foot Locker and Victoria's Secret. Maybe she believed the outfit added a little credibility. >> Wait a minute. Um, just watch her. Did she Did she come in here and drop something? >> I'm not in the store. [clears throat] >> We just called it traction. >> What's the name of the store? >> Attraction. >> I'm not store. >> I went right there. apartment. >> I just walked right here. >> I just walked here. >> Yeah. Maybe this belongs to her. >> Tori's secrets. No. Um, >> these are not ours. >> No, >> she got hit somewhere and she's >> she you throw their stuff in as well. >> It's not ours. >> No shirt or anything? Mhm. >> What are you doing? >> I'm not. I'm not. >> Do you want to be putting handles? >> No. No. >> Okay. So, chill. >> Yeah. >> I mean, there's no reason to take it to another level cuz we're going to get all this figured out, >> right? >> Is there anything in this bag? >> No. >> Okay. Give me those bags. >> That's my purse. >> Yeah, I know. That's why I'm telling you to give me those bags. Okay. I'm going to get >> Thank you. No. Does she have that bag? Hey. Uh, >> detainer. Detainer right now. >> Appreciate it. >> Give me all this here. >> Give me all that. Put your hands on nothing. Do you have Yeah. Do you have her? Do you have video in here? >> No. >> You don't have any video? But that's not You're >> It's not ours. >> You didn't see her do that. But But she came when she walked in. She came to this area. >> Yeah. I'm working there. I'm taking my shirt. She came here. >> I got the sound because I thought that something fell down and I came here. An employee approaches and offers assistance. The response, cold silence. >> That and then bring it back. Yeah. We We'll have to go uh see if there's anything um from Foot Locker in there. Um and then we'll we'll have to go to uh um Victoria Secrets. >> Jesus. >> Hey, did you find the shirt? >> No. Okay. I I didn't go through her bags. >> It might be tucked in between here somewhere. She was standing over there and she came over here. It was quick. >> I thought that something dropped it from level, but I think she's already there. >> Uh-huh. >> What do we have? >> Uh, she's got stuff with security bins on it. >> Yeah, that bag's full of uh Victoria's Secret stuff. I mean, full full. Okay. Um, she uh dumped it in in here. I didn't see anything for foot lock right here. Uh, so she might still have it on >> 1065 West Gateway in the diner. >> You got identification on you? >> Spot on. >> Your phone's in here. I'm call Can I call my sister and tell them that they they left me? They they seen you. Yeah. When they seen y'all >> they left. >> They was down by May. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. I I I'll get that. Do you think your your ID is in your wallet in there? >> Yeah. Mhm. >> Where you from? Florence attack 8 kcy 08. >> Copy. Lawrence miner. >> Where do you think it is? >> It's right over there. This alpha 951 right there. Yeah. >> Can I >> We'll get a female officer over here and take care of you. We have a female >> napkins at the station. Um I >> think you got any words? No, I don't got one. >> Three. >> Last time you were arrested. >> Recently. >> Recently? >> Yeah. About a month ago. >> Have you dealt with that one yet? >> Nope. >> Um, we'll get all your family stuff arranged. You know, make sure you contact um, you know, especially your grandma or grandma and let let >> let her know what's going on. Um this totaling all this is going to be uh probably untapped felony, >> right? >> So um but we're not going to leave your family hanging, right? >> I just want her to know an ample enough of time, you know. So you just grab my cell phone. I can just tell her real quick. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She called me or whatever. I know you're not feeling good or whatever. Um I I caught a ride with Dedra them to the I called my ride with Dra them to the mall or whatever at the at beach boy beach mall. The police talking to you on the speaker phone or whatever. So I just wanted to keep my or whatever for me cuz the girl in Foot Locker had called you on speaker phone. The girl in Foot Locker had called but I know Dra them gone. You know they when they see the police they ran. So um they left me stuck out here. So, um you going to speak a phone and um just um get my baby. >> You know the girl I'll be with you. >> Pull us down. >> Oh yeah, thank you. You know the girl that I be with or whatever. So um if you get a chance or whatever, just go by and check on my baby. I was at the um Boy Beach Mall. So that's where they going to take me from. I was at Fort Lock. Mama, you done told me. You done told me. Um, you on speaker phone. Yeah, you on speaker phone. If I would have just went and did what I needed to do today. >> Did she really think this performance would fool anyone? Because sprinting toward the door while clutching unpaid merchandise isn't searching for family. It's searching for trouble. >> What did What did you get? >> So, I got the receipt. >> Oh, okay. >> And then I have her info. She's I know she's in the system already. And then I have her send I'm going to send her the link so she can upload the video. where she's concealing it. Yeah. Where she puts it in the bag. >> Same over there. They're tallying up that whole duffel bag. >> Yeah. >> It's over a grand so far. >> Yeah. So, >> and then um >> are you too are you going to run a criminal history? >> I did. Okay. >> Yeah. >> She's going to have >> Did she look for probation? people. >> Um, but there's >> Yeah. >> Supposed to be second court. >> Really? >> And then she'll get the enhancements for the other ones. >> Mhm. So, it'll be what? Three fellas, >> right? >> Drum roll. >> It was. Let's see. >> I think it's the same girl. >> You think so? >> Cuz she had a face mask and the exact same description Walmart bag and she was putting stuff in the Walmart bag. Y. >> Okay. >> But Kate was here on that same day. >> Mhm. >> Same thing. >> Going to do the request. >> Let me go get with the other officer. I'll be back. >> Possibly another prior incident related [music] to a grand total. Right now we're at Drum roll, 185 so far. Okay. >> All right. >> You already told her she's trespassing. >> So yeah, you are trespassed for a year. We need that from today to next year. You're not always >> here. The ending isn't gentle. Over $1,000 in stolen goods, a felony retail theft charge due to prior history, plus a possession charge. She now faces up to 10 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and a one-year trespass from the mall. If you're planning to do anything that doesn't involve saving lives, maybe skip the nurse uniform. Shoplifting isn't a gamble, and having accompllices doesn't help when they're usually the first to run and leave you holding the bag.
