But you haven't told us everything. >> There's a UPS truck back there that was struck by gunfire. I heard on when I arrived here that there were some other vehicles like a van that were struck by gunfire that are down the road. So that that's why I'm wondering how all that happened. >> Can't force you to talk, but this is this is what I'll caution you. You would be facing criminal charges if you took part in what they're alleging and they can prove it. >> We're going to take your phone on my phone. >> It'll it'll behoove us to to um validate your story. Okay. >> Basically, it was cool. Like basically just crashed out like that's how I crashed my car. >> And and I'm going to ask you why it is that you didn't stop. I couldn't. >> You couldn't stop? >> No. >> Why? >> Cuz somebody got your leg and pushing it down on me. I gas stop the car. >> After the first crash, he had to open the door and fired I think two or three. >> He fired two or three. After the first crash, was he firing it at? Did you see who he was shooting at? >> No. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Meyers, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was stabilized after treatment. He was then taken to Franklin County Jail 5 days after the shooting, where he was questioned by investigators. >> Since you're in custody here, before we talk to you, I have to read you your rights. >> Okay? So, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand those rights? Okay. You would do me a favor sign right there just stating that you understand them? Okay. Hey, you willing to talk to us about this? >> That was one of them days I was up for days high. Okay. I really don't recall everything that happened. I was up about 4 days. >> So, what are you taking Friday or Thursday night leading into Friday? >> I don't know. It was a little bit of uh bump of ecstasy. >> Okay. >> The perks. >> Perks. Snort them or take them or shoot them? What do you do? >> I take those. >> You just take pills? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you got in the car. Where were you guys at, >> man? We was everywhere that day. I was up for days. I'm thinking people fall on this like for real. I just seen little weird cars and all that like my situation. I was already out on bomb. You got to think I was I'm out on a half a million dollar run. >> Okay. >> So, I know Marshall, everybody else coming. I then I just be >> So, you thought it might have been Marshalls. It might have been undercover cops and stuff. >> Yeah. Literally, I remember I took all my my whole pill bottle. Like >> you took everything you had, >> man. I took the whole pill bottle. I don't remember [ __ ] after that. My kids, I can honestly say that. >> I'm trying to find an easy way out. That's why on the freeway I >> I remember certain little >> Okay. >> But I didn't want to hurt nobody. You know what I'm saying? >> That was my last >> That's fair. >> I wanted to hurt myself before I hurt somebody else. >> The only thing I remember is this. >> What? >> This shot. Like I remember this shot. Yeah, that I don't know that was snap back in reality for a little couple of minutes or what. >> It'd be hard to forget, wouldn't it? >> Man, I felt that. >> So, you know, on the freeway they got cameras, right? >> For traffic and whatnot. >> Yeah. It picked all that up, man. >> Mhm. >> Up on 71 to Polaris. You remember being up there? >> I'm telling you. So, I >> Yeah. >> I rather speak to my lawyer so he can >> You need one lawyer now? >> Yeah. Like I I it seems serious like >> So So you're going to be charged up there with >> Right. Now you've been charged with attempted murder. Okay. >> Of a police officer. >> See like that, man. I don't know. I know my situation. I know. >> All right. Well, I tell you what, like once you get an attorney, I'm sure the prosecutor would want to talk to him. Okay. >> Ohio is one of five states that [music] records its traffic cameras. The others being Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and an East Coast outlier, New Jersey. In a case [music] like freeway shootings or fatal crashes, the cameras have proven invaluable to victims and survivors. Jonathan Meyers was transferred to Delaware [music] County Jail. According to court documents, he was charged with 27 felony counts. [music] First-degree attempted murder, attempted aggravated murder, seconddegree felonious assault, [music] discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, and having weapons while under disability. Initially, Jonathan pleaded not guilty to all counts, but [music] later changed his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. A psychological evaluation was conducted, and Jonathan was found fit to stand trial. The [music] trial continued, and he ultimately entered a plea deal, which resulted in convictions for attempted murder, discharge [music] of a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, seconddegree felonious assault, and attempted aggravated murder. He was handed down an aggregate 25 to 30-year sentence, [music] which he is currently serving at Trumbull Correctional Institute in northeastern Ohio. His female companion is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
