try to be honest the unpredictability of
domestics always concern me now when
police respond to domestic calls it can
be a very sensitive situation it could
be something minor or involve serious
incidents of violence police are trained
to assess the scene quickly to ensure
everyone safety first that's why good
communication skills are vital now
thinking back me and my partner
responded to a domestic in 2009 and we
pull up and there's a lot of arguing
going on between a woman and a man who
we later determine to be her husband so
we separate them and the first thing I
see is that she has bruises on her face
and her arm and I literally had to ask
her repeatedly if he did it and
reluctantly she told me that he did and
that she did call but didn't need police
anymore however if there's any law
enforcement officers watching you know
that it doesn't work that way so of
course we had to take the mail into
custody for the acts that he committed
against his wife and after we get the
mail secured and explain to the wife why
he was arrested is she would have to
make a statement her hostility turned
towards us and she looked at my partner
and let's just say this she told him
that she hope he doesn't make it home
from his shift at night now thankfully
we both did finish our shift that night
but this is a constant reminder of how
complex these domestics can be now with
this case that we just saw out of
Bloomington Illinois police arrive on
location and they observe a male in
close proximity of a female in there's a
lot of yelling going on now remember
police have to act quickly so they
separate them which is smart and what
police are trained to do and the police
handled the situation perfectly because
the Mel allowed his emotion to control
his actions and that's why he got
arrested for obstructing now police gave
him many chances to calm down but what
counts as they did their job and no one
was hurt and the male even apologized
but unfortunately it was too late in a
case back in 2022 two NYPD police
officers were shot one fatally while
responding to a domestic so when police
respond they have to act quickly to
deescalate and to prevent a more dire
