we've got a chase overnight in the southwest metro highway 62 eastbound heading into edina take a look and listen because we've got the dispatch audio as well speeds are approximately 105. eastbound 62 passing tracing coming up to 100 and about three quarters of a mile 100 so it looks to me like the car tried to get out of the way of the stop sticks at the last moment or spotted them very late in the chase and made an abrupt move to the right continued trying to get away but i think they got a little spooked the tires are deflating they also know it's over at this point but but i i wasn't sure i thought i saw maybe a little bit of wobble or just maybe they started to lose a little bit of control and got a little spooked there decide to give it up doors open hands up they're stepping out and the officers weapons drawn doing a felony stop taking a look at the stop sticks again i'll show it a couple times you can see if you look carefully there's an officer behind the guardrail to the right pulling those stop sticks they've got them on the far side of the freeway and they actually pulled those stop sticks across to the right as the car moved to the left on your screen and got a successful deflation everyone loved seeing pits but it is the stop sticks that get the cars to go slow enough below about 45 or 55 miles an hour so that you can do a less lethal pet painting with broad strokes because each department will have its own policy but generally speaking most agencies are going to have a pit or pursuit intervention technique above a certain speed as lethal force but once you get it maybe below 55 or 45 they'll consider the agency and its policy book will consider it to be less lethal or some other type of non-lethal force again it varies a lot by agency but that's why those stop sticks are so important and they also greatly reduce the risk to the officer because you're doing stuff at a slower speed
