Hey, Scott O'Brien here. I just killed Jesse O'Brien. >> You just what? >> Killed him. Saw him hallway. >> So >> That means he's deader than [ __ ] >> Every 911 call starts the same way. A voice, a crisis, someone reaching out for help. But on the night of April 9th, 2021, in Rusk County, Wisconsin, the call that came in wasn't from a witness. It wasn't from a neighbor who heard something they shouldn't have. It was from the man who pulled the trigger. No panic, no tears, just a 59-year-old man standing in his driveway telling dispatch his son was dead in the hallway. And when the dispatcher asked if he was sure, Scott didn't hesitate. He's deader than [ __ ] When deputies arrived, Scott was exactly where he said he'd be, calm, waiting, gun already on the kitchen counter. >> Come here, man. Come here. Come here. Come here. >> All right. Guys, light on me. >> I got right side. You by yourself, sir? >> Yeah. Hey, he's still there, though. >> Turn around. Face the other way. Put your hands up. Give me this hand. Anybody else in the house? >> No. >> All right. Want you to walk back to me, okay, bud? Where's the weapon at? >> On the counter. >> Okay. Walk over to this side. All right. Stand right here for me. I'm just going to double lock these up so they don't tighten up on you. Nothing on you that I need to know about? >> No. >> Where's Jesse at? >> Laying in the hallway. >> Okay. Walk back to this car for me. All right. Stand right here for me. What do you have in your pockets? >> I don't know. Money, probably. >> Let's put everything here, okay? >> Keys. I ain't got none. >> Well, I got a truck, all right? >> I know. >> Put everything up here, all right? >> Yeah. >> Where are the dogs at? >> Uh She's out there in the hallway. Yeah, I don't know. >> They're in the house? >> I don't know where they are. This is his dog. >> Okay. >> She's gentle as hell, though. >> Okay. All right, no other pockets up here? >> No. >> All right, stand back from my car for me. I'm going to take your hat off and I'm going to put everything in your hat, okay? Nothing else in your back pockets, sir. All right. I want you to have a seat for me, okay? Your name's Scott, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Clear the house until we find him. There's supposed to be dogs in here. Oh, he's right here. I can see him. Jesse. Jesse. Look ahead. No. No. Go away. Go away. Go away. 150 Rusk. Send the ambulance to the scene. Advise one uh patient appears to be gunshot wound to the head. Okay. Take note That's >> I'm going 254. Please respond to the scene. Please respond to the scene. It is secure. One patient >> Multiple other guns in the room. I don't know if there's a basement or I don't see what a pure Okay. >> I think this is Justin. >> Justin, I think. I'm not positive, so don't hold me on that. >> It looks like Justin. >> Yeah, I'm not positive. No one else? >> No one else. >> Obviously cuz we can't access it, but >> Do you do you guys have any gloves extra gloves or whatever? >> Stand clear. Analyzing now. Stand clear. >> This is how we found him. >> Okay. So you don't know how long >> We don't know how long. The call came in what 10 minutes 15 minutes ago? >> We have an entrance wound. We have brain matter. I need a light. >> What are you doing now? >> I'm going to find it. Left undilated. >> Definitely. What do you >> Uh canceled. Why don't you contact medical control? Um Do you think there's anybody else in the room? >> We cleared the house the house is clear of people. You said he was the only one too so >> There's no need for the helicopter then. We're going to contact the emergency room physician to ensure that the deceased is not at our opinion at this time. It would be a futile endeavor but we need confirmation from that. >> Okay. >> As soon as we have that we'll clear and you guys can >> Do you need me to stay here? >> One of us needs to stay here and everyone else should get out so we're not impeding anything they need to investigate. >> Show poppers. >> Okay. right, copy. So, in this situation, you contact medical control. >> Caller, address is 92705 >> So, he's laying on the floor right here. >> 92705 They advise rotted out chrome van, uh >> Draw blood. Draw blood. Then, we leave our stuff the way it is on him for the ME, and we get out of the way so we're not disturbing anything for them to investigate. >> now. Stand clear. >> Inside the home, deputies quickly located 36-year-old Jesse O'Brien. He was slumped against the doorway with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Just a few feet away, investigators found a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver resting on the kitchen counter, the same weapon Scott O'Brien admitted using moments earlier. The victim wasn't a stranger, a burglar, or an intruder. He was Scott's own son. As officers secured the scene, Scott was taken into custody without incident. Detecting a strong odor of alcohol, investigators transported him to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office for questioning, where he would once again admit to pulling the trigger. >> I'm here to talk to you and find out what the heck happened. Um So, can you tell me what happened tonight? >> And just attacked me again, and >> And who was he? >> Jesse. >> Jesse? And my son. What Jesse's your son, and what >> 36-year-old son. Muscle bound you know. And I just Got everybody next to me in the dining room, you know, cuz he's strangling me off and going, "I'll kill you, mother fucker." You know, I don't know what his problem is, but you know, dope or whatever. I don't know what what he's what his issues are. But the next thing I know, you know, then he I figured it's over with. And he walks out, you know, out in the entryway, grabs a beer, walks out in the entryway and I go I go, "What the [ __ ] is wrong with you?" You know, and and next thing I know, and I keep a I keep a piece in my cabinet there in case I got a home invasion or something, you know. >> And when you say a piece, what do you mean? >> Say you do some magnum. >> Okay. >> See, he's like, "You know what? [ __ ] you, old man. I'm [ __ ] done with you because I'm going to kick your ass." And he now he now he's coming at me full bore. I don't know why I'm tired of this [ __ ] We're done. Because, you know, see this see my face over here on this side where it's all like spider web? My cheek. >> Okay, yeah. >> That's from him punching me in the face. >> Okay. Okay. >> Was that tonight? >> No. That was another night. That was a different night. >> And we'll get into more of that stuff. I'm just kind of seeing what really what transpired tonight. >> Yeah, it's like, you know, I'm tired of the violence, you know. So, I >> [clears throat] >> So, I don't know. That's it. That's all I got to tell you. >> So, he come he come charging at you and did you already have the gun out of the cabinet or >> I don't know. It must have been around stroke of the stroke of midnight. See, you know. >> I You lost me there. >> Huh? Lost me, too. >> So, you shot at him with the handgun? >> Mhm. >> How many times did you shoot it? >> I don't know. Once or twice. >> Okay. And did you did a bullet strike him? >> I killed him. Didn't do him [ __ ] >> Where did it hit him? >> I don't know. Head sometime. Head in the I think he hit him in the Okay. >> Where were you aiming at? >> I I don't even know. >> Sure. Just at his body? >> Yeah. Just uh >> So >> It was a knee-jerk reaction. >> You don't got to uh So >> So basically >> Who wants to kill your son? Nobody. >> Right. >> Okay, just wish it never even came to this at all. >> I agree with you 100%. >> Yeah. And well, god damn it, you know, you're 36 years old. Do you think at this time you would Do you respect your parents anymore or not or I don't know. I don't know what's wrong with this these people today. >> Uh I wish I had the answer cuz maybe we'd be able to figure it out. >> I mean, it's just like, you know, it's like a everybody's got a you attitude. And I'm just, you know I never was what like that with my parents in them days. >> No. >> You know. Way way more, you know, respect. You know, thank you for letting me live with you. Thank you for letting me have part of your life and everything else. It's like, you know, you ain't doing enough for me. >> Mhm. >> What do you want me to do? >> Either way, you're on the ground and he's got you in a choke hold. >> Yeah. >> And then, do you remember what he said to you when he was choking on you? >> you, [ __ ] >> And then he let go. >> I don't know if he let go or I don't know if I passed out or he let go or what, but then I just remember getting up off the floor. >> And then, so you get up off the floor and what do you do? >> I pick up the chair and [ __ ] that got knocked over. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> I stood it back up. And he kind of went I don't know where he went for sure. Went in his room, then went back outside or I don't remember. I mean, I mean, I don't remember exactly what happened. It just was you know, the adrenaline's flying now. >> Sure. >> Everything's worked up and >> So, do you remember where you were sitting back down then when he went and got a beer and went out? >> I think he was sitting back down. >> And then he comes back in with a beer bottle and rake or whatever it was. >> And >> then you must you would have had to have stood up to get the gun out of the thing, right? So, did he did he say that he was going to kick your ass or whatever before you got up and got the gun out? Or did you get the gun out >> Oh, yeah. >> thinking maybe >> "You know, I'm I'm going to [ __ ] you up." or something like that. I'm not exactly what he said, but he come in there almost on a run. >> And that's when you got up. >> I stood up. Flipped open the cabinet, grabbed the pistol, and shot him cuz I wasn't going to let him >> Okay. >> Is this the day you cave in my head and then go hunting the rest of your family and, you know, smoke yourself? I mean, I don't you know, I don't know what what his plan is, you know. I just said this shit's happening like this. >> Right. >> So, >> and I understand that it's well, it's traumatizing and it's happening fast. Um >> I just say he's got the [ __ ] scared out of me, you know. I don't know what what he's going to do. >> And I don't know if or you're I'm not a big revolver guy, so I don't I don't own one. I don't Do you have to pull the hammer back or >> I just I do. It's double action. >> So, you pulled the hammer back and do you remember how many times you fired? >> I think twice. >> Okay. >> Scott O'Brien never denied pulling the trigger. In fact, he admitted to the shooting from the moment he called 911. He was ultimately charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm in connection with the death of his son, Jesse O'Brien. As of our research, there are no major public court updates or verdict. The case remains without a widely reported final resolution, leaving many of the questions surrounding that fatal confrontation unanswered.
