Okay. >> Whose car is this? >> That's mine. >> Were you involved in the accident? >> No, no, no. We just we guys like show everything up or would you guys be like able to willing to provide a statement? >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay, I'm just going to move my car a little bit. You just park right there for me. Ma'am, ma'am, you're hooked up to this. Sit down. Sit down. Okay, sit down. Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. >> How many patients do we have? >> He's through it here. >> Just Yeah, they're both in here. Oh my gosh. They're [ __ ] freaking out. Uh, I guess I don't know. I don't know the circumstances and how it happened. Two occupants, they're both sitting here. They hit the back of the cross truck. That's all I have now. They're the one girl saying she hit her head off the dashboard. All right. And they're like just kind of uh Yeah. The one girl's bleeding from her head, like a head a little bit. She said her head hurts. That was the passenger and then the driver was telling me nothing. >> All right, we had a caller and uh I I was sitting at prospect. The dude came up to like, "Hey, my crash truck just got hit. Come over there." And I guess that's also when 9 mile one start going off in this bag when ready. >> Tell me a hook. >> Are you with them? >> Yes. >> What is your uh >> What's the relationship? >> No, no, I'm with her. I witnessed everything. >> Okay, sounds good. Can you tell me what happened? >> Uh, the the big truck was in the process of a U-turn, about a K turn, I should say, coming down this way and they just kept going. Just ran right into the the big truck. >> Okay. >> As soon as we got out to help, she ran to throw the liquor. The the um bottle over there >> in the bushes. [clears throat] >> Which one? The passenger or the driver? >> The passenger. >> Okay. And they were coming this way. >> They were coming this way. They're coming down. >> Do you know if they had the red light, green light? Um, I want to say >> we had the green light because we had the green light. You had the green light. We were waiting for the truck to come past. >> Either way that you could see it. >> You couldn't see it. You can see it from the mile. >> I got you. I'm just asking. Can you guys uh >> We was coming this way and we have the green light. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Were you driving as well? >> Yeah. I was behind them. >> Okay. And same situation more or less. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's uh right over here. Let's take a picture of it. >> You keep it on here. So there's two cars involved. >> Uh this car and the crash truck. >> Okay. Everyone else the only two patients then cause them. 99 echo 68. Let's keep on >> and it started probably at uh Eagle Rock. >> Okay. And then at that point, the one car is a sedan trying to cut off this car and just and then they probably continued because if they cut them off there, you'd stop. >> Mhm. >> It continued. I'm guessing for it to be an accident down here 5 minutes later. >> Yeah. >> And I don't know where the other car left. What What happened? They hit into >> Yeah. So, I guess this truck was doing a K turn cuz they're working down there and this car just came flying from what I'm hearing. And so the sedan got off and then they >> we didn't we didn't I didn't see his sedan. >> His car that's when it started. >> Well, he was like they were speeding done. He was already done until they came and pulled. >> They were I mean >> that's a stretch up there. So no one said, "Hey, you're an [ __ ] Let it go." >> But for them, they was already done. They look they was right there and for them to hit them. Good to go, officer. >> Yeah, you're all good to go. I got all your info. You saw the car smack into the back of the truck. >> Oh, yeah. She got ejected, too. So, all debris. She got ejected >> from the car. >> Yeah. From the car. She actually got ejected. >> So, you know, >> cuz when we got out, her shoe was over here and she was like laying right like, "Are you okay?" >> All right. But I I heard her say, "I opened the door." You told them she opened the door. >> She's the driver right there. >> She was stuck. You helped. Y'all told help her out the door. >> She was She was >> She was driving. Yeah. She got ejected. She was right where she at. >> Did you see who threw the Who threw the can? >> She did. >> She did. Okay. >> Once I picked like once I I got out the car, I'm like, "Are you okay?" Okay. Okay. She was like this. And then she ran to the driver's seat. She ran to the passenger and then she went over there and I heard something clink clink. So when I looked, I saw that's when I saw the bottle of liquor. >> All right. So driver, she threw the can over there. >> I appreciate it. You guys are good to go. >> Thank you so much. >> Be safe, bro. >> Yep. Take care. So, talking to some of the witnesses, the one with the braid supposedly got ejected. She was the driver. The one with Subie. Sorry. The one with braids, she got ejected. She was a passenger. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That was the drive over there. The one with the braids through the can. There's like a little alcohol can >> by the tree over there. >> I don't know if anybody looked in the car. >> Mhm. What do you see? >> Um there's an alcoholic beverage on the floor on the passenger side. There's one someone one of them threw it by the tree, too. >> All right. I just wanted to show you there's a vape pipe in the driver's side in the compartment. >> Okay. >> Right here, but on the driver's side. >> And where'd you see that came at? >> Um, under >> the airbag. >> The airbag. Cuz I was looking for her shoe. One shoe was out here, but the other one was missing. And I looked it up and there's >> supposed to real quick. >> It's like um a can of margarita, but I didn't look. Is it open? Is it margarita mix? Is it >> cuz I didn't want to handle it cuz I knew what you guys would be doing. >> I got you. >> All right. I'll let them know. >> On the other side. Then there's this cup, but I don't know what's in it. >> All right. on the other side there's like a Wendy's plastic cup and water. >> All righty. Thank you. This the passenger. >> Yeah. >> Well, and she's the one who hit her head. >> Okay. Yeah. >> She's the one who has So, I would definitely want to get >> I would push her to go if she doesn't want to go. Yeah, >> the driver doesn't want to go either. But >> is she >> Daily? Can you get her stop walking around here to come back? Is she injured in any way, shape, or form? >> Excuse me. >> Is she injured in any way, shape, or form? >> She has the gas on her head, but I don't recommend to get checked out. >> So, she probably hit her head on the windshield because of that spidering on the passenger side. >> She has blood on her head. >> As far as you can tell, she's bodily injury right now, right? like a small injury, not like significant bodily injury or be like protracted function or something like that. >> Significant although I didn't talk to her. I heard some conversation with her and she seems coherent. >> Okay. >> And I think she's upset which anybody would be. >> But I think it's just >> Sorry, one second. >> Just have him par for now. We're going to stand by in the tow for a second. I told one of the other officers, um, I noticed she had one shoe >> Mhm. >> over there and the other shoe missed. So, I gave her a shoe and then I looked in here and found the other one under the airbag and there was an alcoholic beverage under there, a can of margarita, something. I didn't handle it too much cuz I didn't >> want to interfere with what you guys need to do. Um, there's a big pipe in the door on the driver's side in in this compartment. >> You went through the entire vehicle. >> Well, the doors are open, so I'm just looking. >> Okay. >> So, >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> [groaning] >> I'm sorry. >> L E A S N E T. >> That's my first. >> Sorry, my wall is You certified SFST yet? >> Huh? You certified SFS yet? >> It's looking like neither one of them are going to go. So, >> soon as we get their info, we'll get the hell out of here. >> Sounds good. Huh? Who the [ __ ] would have >> James? >> Yes. >> The cops. >> I'm trying to see if she wants to go to the hospital. I mean, both of their blood pressures are high. Their heart rate's high, but you know, that's expected. >> Okay. But still, I'd rather them get checked out 100%. Otherwise, like you don't see any injuries or anything on there on her? >> No. Oh, no. She's not. She has no pain. She had uh she had a head laceration, right? >> Yeah. He had head laceration. And >> you can see on the windshield it looks like she had >> she said she gave her head a good splash. >> She's not complaining about anything. Just like hangs out like you know. >> Your head? >> Yeah. >> Mine mine's fine. >> So, do you guys want to go to the hospital? >> She said her. >> Yeah. It's the passenger. Um, which one do the witnesses have as the passenger? >> So, a lady from this house said that the one with the teal shorts was a passenger and she threw it. >> Another witness I spoke to is uh he was in New um he said the passenger was the one with the braids and she was the one that threw the gun by the tree. Supposedly there's another one on the floorboard in the passenger side. >> Yeah. So, we haven't to conflicting statements of the drivers. >> Yeah. Well, I mean, just going to go off the basic injuries then. She has looks like she hit her head in the windshield and she got the cut in her head. >> Mhm. >> The one with the braids. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, and she's the one in the teal shorts saying she was the one driving. I love the totality of it. >> It could be something. >> Come over here. Come. Come sit over here. Okay. Come sit over here. Come sit over here. >> Just sit down. Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat. >> We were We were passing down and we She couldn't slow down the car. We hit the truck. It doesn't my head hit the desk. Although I did bleeding and it was on his way to uh so obviously the car crash you have very high blood pressure. You know, it's just such a shocking, as you can see, a shocking experience based on the fact that you just said that you hit your head on the dashboard or it is just a dash. I highly recommend for you to get it checked out here inside uh just to, >> you know, see if everything's okay. Just get someone to reach to bring it to you. That is okay. That is my recommendation. You're 5 minutes here. So what else? I can't force you to go again because you just get based on the >> Okay. So your friend I don't think wants to go. >> It's up to you. We recommend what you should do, but There heat. Huh? >> It's looking like neither one of them are going to go. So, >> as soon as we get their info, we'll get the hell out of here. >> Sounds good. I'm just looking. That was Um, there's another opening. There's another can of some sort on the airbag on the passenger side. [groaning] >> Does this belong to >> That's mine. >> That's mine. >> That's too. >> Yeah, that's mine. >> Okay. So you're related to one of them. I don't know any All right. Can I talk to you for a second? >> All right. You want to tell me what happened? >> So, um, the light was turning yellow, but it was still yellow and we were going through it and then the truck was turning. I guess it was on maybe a turn on red or whatever was turning. It was too late. Tried to break. >> Okay. So, you guys were coming down Mount Prospect. Yep. >> And this guy was coming like >> from from that street or from here >> from here on like >> I don't know if it was a turn on red light but the light was still yellow. >> Okay. >> Tried to slow down because it was too close. >> All right. Where you guys coming from tonight? >> Um Eagle Rock. >> Okay. All right. Where you guys head? >> We're trying to go get some food. We're just going to look around and >> Okay. >> Do you have Do you have an ID on you? I >> actually don't, which is why I'm going to call my father because they want to take to the hospital, but I don't have my insurance card on me, which isn't my ID. >> Do you want to go to the hospital? >> Um, they recommended me to with the dash on my head. >> Yeah. >> Do do you want to go or are you going to go? >> Um, if they recommended me to, I think I should. So, I just wanted to go with I'm not going to bring my friends. We're not partying weights at all. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Kennedy Jackson. >> Can you spell it? >> K E N E D Y. >> J A C K S >> K E N E D Y. That's your first name. >> Kennedy. >> All right. What's your last name? >> J A C K S O N. >> All right. What's your date of birth? Where do you live at? with a big call. >> All right. What's your phone number? Make sure it's >> What were you guys doing up at Rock? >> We just just looking at the view. >> That's it. Nothing else. >> Okay. >> Like um I did the street from Uber Rock. So that's like a common place that like you know people go to. We were just we were just like you know trying to catch a view. We both just wanted to hang out today and just look at the view. And then we were on our way back over here. She like you want to find some food and then >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> How do you guys know each other? >> Um we've been friends for about um over a year. >> Um she used to she's used to date my boy best friend. >> Okay. >> Um we're not together anymore, but that's how we met. So we've been friends since about last May in 2024. >> We friends for over a year. >> I got you. I got you. And you're in the passenger seat, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm not driving right now. My license is >> okay. Yeah, that's fine. >> All right, let's hang out for >> You have everyone's information. Are you good? >> I have uh Yeah, I have their >> Okay. You don't need them anymore at this moment in time. >> We're just going to get them signed to RMA if they don't want to go. >> Okay. >> Daddy, >> they told me that they're going to take me to the hospital, but I don't have my insurance card on me. It's in my >> Are you sure? Why are you yelling? Why are you yelling at me? Did I hit them or did they hit me? >> So, we're still talking to everyone about who witnessed the accident. Okay. >> But if you're okay, can I just talk to you over here for a second? >> Can we on the phone with your parents? >> Yeah. >> On the phone with your parents? >> Yeah. >> Hello. >> Let's walk over here. >> Hello. >> Hello. I know that. >> Yeah, I'm I'm with the cop right now. >> Just walk on the sidewalk over here. >> She just want She just wants to know like I have no health insurance. Hold on. Read that. I have no health insurance. >> Okay. >> So, she wants to know if it's like if it's covered or not. Like I'm about to get a new job. >> I'm sorry. What? >> You said you don't have you don't you no health insurance. What was the word after that? >> Yeah, I have no health insurance. I'm about to get a new job at the hospital about to pay for like all this and that. >> I see your sign. >> You feel me? >> Okay. Like, >> if no one can get you, we have to hold you here for a certain amount of time. >> Oh, heaven. >> Which is a while. So, >> Okay. But I have my phone though, right? >> Yeah. You'll be able to call whoever you need to come get you. >> They live like not even 2 minutes away. That's what I'm saying. >> No, that's fine. >> Okay. Okay. I ain't trying to sit down here. So, she's going and >> I have I have only this one and the ear one here >> and these two and that's it. >> Anything else is taken out? >> Do you have anything? >> No. >> I'm going to go around. So, what are you wearing? Do you have um just underwear? >> Yeah, just the shorts and the thong. That's it. >> Sorry. You're good. >> Okay. All right. So, everything [ __ ] Take your shoes off. Nothing here. You can check. >> Okay, she's good. >> This is the updated address for you. >> Yes. Oh, you want to smell it? [laughter] >> Wait, can I stand up right now? >> If you could sit back down, please. Okay. Badger 48.94. >> And what's your partner? >> Uh Daily D A L Y. It's >> badge number. I don't know what to talk about. >> D A >> D A L Y. >> Badge number 6050. >> Okay. Thank you. I want to make sure you go to the bathroom. Thank you. >> Where's the bathroom? >> Uh, it's going to be >> They're going to probably want it to go to the cell. So, >> Oh. Just hang on one sec. Damn. >> Yeah, I'm bad. Yeah, it's the same. >> I apply. Don't worry. All right, that's >> what press. here, bro. >> Get the [ __ ] out of here, bro. I'm not meant for this. >> Same same spot. >> I am not meant for this [ __ ] >> All right, we're going to have to sit back on this side so I can talk to you again. >> Um, this hand. >> What hand? What hand you lefty? >> Um, I'm a lefty. Yeah. >> Y'all have a whole coat here. What's up? >> That's not a whole poo. >> I don't know what that is. >> That blue poo. That's not a poo. >> Doesn't look like it looks like a No, >> it's a piece of plastic. >> It's a piece of plastic. >> [ __ ] Y must not know what's going on down here. >> This isn't our police station. >> This is Cedar Grove. Where Verona? >> Where? Where? >> Our our police station is getting remodeled. So, we don't have a police station. >> Where are we right now? >> We're in Cedar Grove. >> Cedar Grove. >> That's where I told you when we were driving here. >> Bro, are we? I thought I'm not from down here. So, I thought we was in West Orange. >> No, we're like a mile from West Orange. >> The [ __ ] >> West Orange is down the street. >> I live in Elizabeth. I'm damn near 10 miles from here. That's not that far. >> It's not that far. But yeah, the cops down here like they they move different down from like down here over there. Like down there it's like mad. It's it's a lot of like a massive violence. It's a lot of shooting. It's a lot It's a lot of It's It's way more like It's way more active down there than over here. That's what I'm saying. Like, you know, >> it's a big city down there. It is, but it's also active down there. Like it's always something going on. >> What is this? A camera? >> Yeah, it's my body cam. >> Oh, okay. >> Cuz I'm going have to get her. So, >> okay. >> Uh, so she she's my good check mouth and everything. She's good. >> Yeah. Piercing's out, right? >> 09. >> I took everything. didn't eat anything since you took >> I haven't ate No, I haven't ate anything since like 12 something >> in the afternoon. >> Afternoon. Yes. >> What did you eat? >> Pizza. I got Domino's. >> What kind of slice? >> I had chicken and bacon. >> Oh, chicken bacon. >> Pepperoni and bacon. >> I'm sorry. Can someone clear my glasses? >> I don't I don't have I I don't got nothing. I'm sorry. >> Yeah, you you know I can't clean my glasses just cuz of this like >> we we don't have anything for you to clean them with. >> Oh my god. >> Guys are like, >> "Do you want to start punching yourself in the machines? >> Do we have a print out for >> I'm not asking for much. I'm just saying my glasses." You can't do that. >> This is This is fine. River. >> Okay. Yeah. No, we're just uh wrapping up processing her now. It shouldn't be too much longer. >> Okay. We can take her with us after that. >> Yeah. >> Um who's going to be the one taking responsibility over here? >> Her mom right here. Your mom and the dad is in the bathroom. >> Okay. Uh do you have an ID that I can just grab real quick? there. Thank you. >> All righty. Take that. Here's your uh your ID back. And then uh so what this this form is, it's the it's the potential liability form. Okay. It's basically you're just have to you're responsible for essentially for the next 12 hours. You just you're not allowed to let her get behind the wheel and if you do you can be charged. Just uh if you want you can just uh read all this and then just uh sign here. Okay. >> First question is where's the car at? >> It got towed. >> Where did it get towed to? >> Uh that I don't have the answer to right now but uh it's on top >> or >> looking at it. Yeah. Yeah. Probably >> Yeah. is all the airbags went off. The front end was wrecked pretty good. So, I don't I don't know definitively. I can't say 100%, but it it it was it wasn't pretty good. Uh, can I have your phone number? >> All right. Thank you. Just uh shouldn't be too much longer. Okay. >> After >> Yeah, she's fine. So, uh, we're just finishing up processing her. Whenever she's, uh, whenever the other officer's, uh, all done, she'll be released to you guys and with a with a court date. Okay. >> Over here. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. All right. Well, I don't like the other officer's dealing with her, but I'll let her uh I'll let her know that you guys are here. Okay. All right. >> Thank you. All right. Uh, question for you. So, one of the, uh, witnesses that was on scene said that whenever the accident happened, they saw you throw a can out of the car. Uh, officer found it. Uh, does anything like that sound familiar? Were you guys drinking in the car? >> No. >> No, you didn't throw a can out of the car. >> Don't know why someone would have said that. >> Okay. I was literally distraught when I got out the car. I couldn't even see. It was foggy. I couldn't breathe. How would I even be able to do that? >> Okay. So, you guys weren't drinking in the car? >> No. >> No reason why there'd be a cut water where someone said that anything like that. That's not what you were drinking. >> Okay. >> Uh, another question for you. Were you wearing a seat belt? >> Pretty sure. Yeah, >> you're pretty sure cuz it's it's apparent that you hit the windshield of the car. So, were were you wearing one or or were you not wearing? >> Seat belt. >> I just flew forward. That's all. >> It was a very hard impact. >> Okay. Do you know like about how fast you guys were going? >> Um um maybe the speed limit's about 40 on that road. We were going around that. The light was still yellow when she went. >> He was turning at the same time. The light was yellow. He wanted to know we weren't there. So he wanted to know like the accident who who was that fault was the yellow. >> We don't do fault in New Jersey is a no fault state. >> So like I mean obviously like the report's going to be the report >> and whatnot. She's you know she's driving on the alcohol that you know is going to play a factor into it. Yeah. And he says that let's say she was drunk to her, right? Um if the light was yellow and the light had a chance to stop like that's why he's like >> so the other the other jar was saying too is they they weren't turn they were like they were going straight. They were traveling extremely slowly. There's there's road work going on. So there was construction going on. That vehicle is actually designed for, you know, this kind of purpose because, you know, workers get killed all the time in motor vehicle accidents and whatnot, which is why like police are always involved in other construction. It's a county road. They were actually working on the on the state highway, too. So, that's the reason why the crash truck was there. So, it was move. It was traveling the same direction that they were traveling just at a slow rate of speed. It's a little bit of a curve where the accident happened. So that's probably, you know, what that's based off my investigation and my experience. That's going to be what happened is the crash truck was moving at a slow rate of speed and they were, you know, traveling at a higher rate of speed down the hill around negotiating that little curve there and they weren't able to uh to slow down in time and they uh they hit that they hit that crash truck. So then um that's what he's confused about because in New Jersey when he got into an accident they would look at the camera footage and see who was at fault. So that's like, >> you know, like that's like like we're going to we're doing our investigation. We're going to be pulling cameras. We're going to we're going to do all that stuff, but it's like the insurance companies are the ones that decide fault. We don't we don't decide fault. We're fact we're factfinders. We >> Yeah. Yeah. We're going to see we're going to see everything. >> Okay. You know, that's that's fine. Yeah. >> Okay. So then in the police report there should be like the drawing and everything like oh yeah >> yep yep all that all that stuff's going to be there >> when she has court. Is it in this town or is it >> in North Caldwell? So we're going to have all that. >> Yeah, it's before we release you. I'm going to explain everything. If you guys have any questions, I'm going to explain everything for you guys so you guys you guys understand >> where the car is. Uh so for the ne so because the co so the car was towed because obviously accident all that stuff blah blah blah but even if I just did a motor vehicle stop and this devolved into me placing her under arrest for driving under the influence the car is now impounded under what's called John's law. So that's a part of like with the paperwork that you signed is for so that car isn't able to be released because it was involved in uh the a driving mall intoxicated incident for the next I believe it's 12 hours. So in order to get the car released, you'd have to go to our headquarters, get the release form, and bring it to the tow company. But it's also it's also more likely not to it's it's it's kind of a more complex situation now cuz it's not just you know a motor vehicle stop with you know an arrest because of drunk driving. There was an accident which we responded to and then you know the situation devolved into you know she's operating the car while drunk. >> Okay. >> All right. Just do me a favor. Hang tight for a little bit longer. She they're still doing the uh the test and the processes there with her. Okay. She'll be able to >> Yeah, she Yeah, she'll be able to after 12 hours she'll be able to like drive and whatnot. She'll be able to go and go to our headquarters, get the release forms and whatnot in order to get the car release that that the insurance company >> to like take possession of the car >> cuz we were supposed to go to the hospital and >> you guys refused you guys refused medical attention. >> You guys put her in handcuffs. So, I said I wasn't going to the hospital anymore because my friend was in handcuffs. >> So, you guys refused medical attention. You were like allowed to go to the hospital >> but not without her though. I wasn't I made that clear. I wasn't going to work without her. So, she hasn't seek any medical attention. >> So, she refused medical attention. >> Okay. >> So, I have a question. So, you said the car was like probably not even >> Yeah. So, every single airbag was deployed. The front end was extremely damaged, leaking fluids everywhere. It looked like there was a bunch of stuff wrapped up underneath. Like when the car got towed away, I wasn't there. So, I don't know how bad exactly the damage was, but the car was disabled. not able to be driven. >> So, she couldn't have pulled it off after that. The car just It was stuck. It was over. >> Yeah. No, you can't. That car would not have I mean, you could have like moved it, but it was not operate. You couldn't operate it. Say like you put it probably the wheels probably wouldn't turn like the way the wheels were. It looked like probably the axles were the axles were snapped. So, the car is disabled. It needs to go to a body shop before you can >> it's going to need to get towed out of whatever lot it's at. Do >> you don't know if it's totally? >> I'm not a mechanic. I don't do I'm not That's not like my job. But looking at it, it is extremely extremely damaged. >> Everything inside. >> This is the airbag though. >> Typically whenever the airbags go off, the insurance company totals the car. >> Okay. Oh, definitely. Cuz no one's going to take it the night before. >> No. >> All right. Righty. So, she has all the paperwork she needs. The uh Can I see the tickets? >> Yeah. >> So, she has a uh she has a court date, August 21st at 4:30. It's at North Caldwell Court, 141 Gold Avenue, North Caldwell. If you have any questions, that's their number. Okay. All right. >> That's it. Is there any information on the car? >> Uh, it's at Mountain Auto Body in Verona. In order to get the car released, you need to come to the Verona Police Department. Get to get a release form. Okay. >> It's in Ver It's at Mountain Auto Body in Verona. >> Mountain Auto Body in Verona. You want to put that down. >> But you have to come to us first. >> Yeah. You got to get a You got to get a release form from us. >> Okay. You can go tomorrow between uh like normal normal business hours. They should be open >> tomorrow. >> Any questions? >> The cops are at the car. >> No, they wouldn't let me get cut and try out the car, but I got >> any questions. >> Okay. All right. Thanks for coming. >> That's right. >> [music] [music] [music] [music]
