A discount store employee tries to run when caught stealing on camera, but he doesn't get far before his escape turns into a medical emergency. >> Okay. >> They I told him I wasn't leaving and going nowhere until I figured out what was going on. So, I'm still here. So, I'm making sure ain't nothing wrong. So, I didn't >> What exactly is going is >> they said >> is going on. He said there's multiple incidents that it was like on the cash reg stuff and stuff not getting mug up and stuff being stolen, stuff like that. Pretty much that's what he said. So I told him with me being here, I'm not leaving until I get the full understanding because I don't feel like I did nothing wrong. >> Okay. >> I never worked as register up here. It's my first time up here. I have plenty of mistakes. Couple people to fix them. But like now he's saying that I walked out with stuff that is stolen and like it was few few ACs that was broken that I that was damaged down and stuff like that. That that's what me and him was just talking about. Okay. >> But just like I said, I'm not going to impate him on anything. But just like he said, if it's going to the dumpster, he has nothing to do with. I kept, but it's not it's not stealing. You know what I'm saying? If you figure that was stealing, >> you can't do >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. >> Once they go into damage for the system of the store, >> I did do that and I did that. >> Right. But but then they're [snorts] damaged. So that the cords are cut. It's severed or can't be used. >> See, they never even said that. They never even said that. >> But whatever. There's something done to them to where it's not going to be. >> Yeah. It wasn't working at all. It was water dripping out of >> But you after the dumpster, I can't control. >> Right. Right. Right. That's >> Let me grab your information. >> Daniel Robertson, >> explain to me what >> That's why I had >> what they're saying you did and then you tell me what what you did. I just did. [laughter] >> I know. >> I just did. It was He said it was um He said it was people multiple people come to my line and that a lot of stuff wasn't getting rung up or candy bar was getting rung up and like it was miscommunications on certain ends and just like I spent time I say I never worked at rest in any other place. So like it may have been a conversation that I may have got threw up or something like that but I don't feel like I was stunning anything. But >> how about the three of us go into an office and explain right here. I don't got nothing to hide. I have nothing to hide at all. >> Yeah, let's go inside. Come on. >> I have nothing to hide. >> The suspect is accused of taking returned or damaged items for himself without paying. The group heads inside so officers can review statements and security footage. >> Did you I mean, did you walk out with merchandise or >> Only time I walked out with merchandise is if one of the employees called me on the speaker and asked me to bring some up and bring it out for a for a customer. >> They're damaged products. You take them out back, you're supposed to throw them away. And then if >> I just keep them I just keep them just like I just told you. I lied to you about I kept this. >> That's fine. But >> I didn't lie to you about it. I lied to you about that. >> What's the policy on that? Are they >> They're not eligible for the merch is supposed to be damaged and discarded, destroyed to a point where it can't be taken by anyone. That's our policy. >> See, and and my understanding what that is, that was never explained to me. [music] When they just said when it's damaged out, take it to the back. That's all my understanding was. I never was told to cut no cords or anything just like he explained to you outside which he said I didn't tell him that the cords wasn't cut. I didn't know that. >> I don't need to speak but there's an interesting question. They're brand new and they weren't returned. I have cross documents that show they weren't returned. They were taken directly from our sales pallet up front. >> Yeah, they were taken up for sales pract what you're saying is >> I'm talking about the other I'm not going to debate. When he asked me information, I'll give my answer to me. [snorts] >> That's like you just asked me. Did you Didn't you just ask me about the air conditioners that were supposed to be in return? Right. >> I asked you about the ones that were damaged and broken. >> Those two. And then the ones that was called in for me to carry out for someone. I came up to [clears throat] the front. They told me to grab it and take it out for them. After the people that came and got them was in wheelchairs. So I don't know. Y'all never told me check and receipt or anything like that. If a person called me over the mic and said a person need help carrying this out, can you go a level? That's That's all I do. That's exactly what I did. So, if if I'm wrong for that, I'll take responsibility for that. >> Just sit right here. Let's go. What you got? >> So, he's been employed here since the 23rd of June. He's only been here 4 weeks. So um over the course of 4 weeks I have 23 video incidents where he he takes out either by walking out himself bagging up merchandise himself or having customers come through the line where he would scan a 50 cent candy bar in lie of an air conditioner or a large pillow or something with value charge them $300 or $4 and walk out with $200 $300 of the merchandise. The total that we could prove on video is $3,14 over the last four weeks. The day in question the air conditioners are brand new. There's one female involved that's typically here every time. He says that he doesn't know who he is. I believe it's his wife. >> Well, either way, this the same lady he bag of merchandise up for, gifts her, >> walks out with with air conditioners, and this is all happened. The biggest hit was on the I think it was Saturday the 19th. It was almost $1,100 of merchandise that he walked out of the door that he selected from the sales floor, bagged up, and eventually walked out himself in addition to just bagging up for customers. on video it's unclear so I'm not gonna say it but it looks like he was taking cash from customers and that's why they were just bagging up merchandise I said I'm not I'm not I'm not >> but that's he was just bagging up merchandise out there he'd actually physically walk out to their cars with them so >> because I'm helping them take the they got bags of stuff why would I not help them take out those >> typically as a cashier you're responsible for scanning merchandise and charging them >> there's only two of us working >> so either way it's old people which do make the old people >> is there is there two Is there two people on the cash >> there's only two of does. >> Yeah, there's two there's two there's our restaurant and >> it's in the afternoon. There's nobody else working. Mike's on the floor. >> It it doesn't matter as a cashier. You bring up customers and then they pay for. >> So now you just now I have no problem with what you're saying. You're completely right. But you sitting here telling me if a old elderly person asks me and there's two registers open and there's nobody else in the store. If they ask me to help them carry their stuff, then I'm not allowed to help them carry their stuff. You can help anyone you want. That's what I'm saying. >> But you don't just bag up merchandise for it. So that that's what the video shows. They'll walk up to the cart full of merchandise. He'll select all the merchandise, bag it up, or he'll walk up, grab bags, walk to the next register, bag up the merchandise, cart it for the customers, and walk them out. >> At no point was no payment ever rendered from the customer. >> Half of them conversations that you're talking about is stuff that a person back has bust and I gave them another bag. I I see where you're coming from. What it may look like, but having a time a person bag has bust and they came back in the store and I give them another bag because they lick what spilled in their car and they seat and they grab a whole another bottle. I I see where you're coming from. >> That that's why we go to court. You can you can try to tell a judge whatever you want. >> I'm not video shows you stealing merchandise, dude. It's that simple. >> I'm not disputing anything that you're saying. It may look like that, but I didn't steal anything. That's fine. I I don't mind going to court and with my lawyer anything. I have a lawyer. But the thing is, I have worked here before for a while and I never ever stole anything. I never ever even worked as they just trained me to work the register. So, if you feel like that I stole something by me misplating something or skipping something because I'm having a conversation with the person, I apologize. That's not my fault. I never stole any I never stole anything in a day in my life. >> That that's you can stick to that story. That's fine. I don't care what you say. I'm just showing what the video shows. >> Okay? And consistently being the same person shows that it's not basically health. >> So, of course, of course, everybody's going to feel the same, but I'm not disputing none of that. I'm not upset about any of that. But my thing is, I don't steal. If I'm going to take something, I will take it in your face. I'm not a thief. So, it may have looked like I took something or anything like that. I'm not a thief, man. I' done been to jail too many times and never been to jail for stealing nothing in my life. Li going to court doing whatever I got to do to get this resolve. Do I get a summon or anything for this, sir? >> A summon for $30,000? That's a felony, my man. >> He didn't say $30,000. No, >> no, 3,000. >> No, it's not $3,000. >> That's what I can prove. >> No, he may feel like it's 3,000, but like half the stuff that's on there, I didn't steal anything. It's a mis rung up thing. I don't feel like like if I felt like I stole something, I would have sat here and waited on you to come here. He said it's like three thou like $2,000 change almost $3,000 for Miss Ringer. Like come on, man. >> I'm going to ask you this. Who is the person in the videos? >> I have no clue. >> Who's the female? >> I have no clue. I'm being honest. I don't have no clue who that is. Now, if I knew y'all was to let me go home, I will tell you. I do not know. >> If I let you go home, you'll tell me. >> I don't know. I said if I knew who she was, I will tell you. >> Look, man, I'm just being honest with you. When this is get when this is going to get transferred over to DB. >> What is DB? >> Detective Bureau. And Detective Bureau is going to look into this. They're going to watch the videos. Okay. >> Let me ask you this question. >> And they'll they'll they'll eventually identify the woman. >> I'm going ask you this question. >> Cuz they're going to come in here. They're going to interview him. They're going to interview all What's up? >> If I find out who she is, can I please go home? My son is in a hospital. Not today, man. Do you have any property here you would like to have somebody take? >> No, I have nothing here at this store. >> You've been caught. You've been caught on video doing this. I understand your son's in the hospital. I understand you want to make a call to your wife. I'm allowing you to make a call to your wife right now. >> Keep taking me to the restroom, please. The Keep taking Keep walking to the restroom. I told her not to use the restroom. Keep walking right to the restroom. She's still on the phone. I'm not doing nothing funny. She's still on the phone. She's crying. I'm not lying. Hello. >> [snorts] >> I'm not lying. I'm serious. I'm not doing nothing funny, sir. >> All right. Do you mind if I talk to her? >> She She hysterical right now. >> Okay, I understand that. I'm just telling you. I'm going to ask her if she's the woman in the video. >> She's not the woman in the video. I tell you that now. She's not the woman in the video. >> She's not She don't know nothing about nothing. I'm serious. >> You walk to the restaurant, please. I'm not doing nothing. You can walk to the restaurant. >> What am I going to do? just kind of down. >> Can you um What's your uh what's your sharers buddy's name that you uh that work down there? >> Click get click over and call him and see see if he can't do anything because I I don't know man. >> Aan. >> So what they want to do is >> hold on. >> They want they want to figure out the value cost of the damaged items. If he's taking the damage items >> 0. There's no damage items though. That's the thing. >> Yes, it is. this three damage >> the it's brand new freight on the sales floor you grabs it's not damaged as the story he's telling like I said I know they're on the counter nothing was returned that day there was nothing returned returned it >> let you that's that's the easy strike so you can see there's stories to everything as to why he did or didn't do something >> I said I'm only basing on the facts >> that that's why I called the PLA that's why I called or the PLA is the pro city prosecutor That's why I called the prosecutors. That's why I called >> I apologize, man. We got to go. >> Huh? >> We got to go. >> Calm down. Hey. >> Hey. Hey. Hey, hey, hey. Calm down. Calm down. Okay. >> Uh, just right here, man. Just right here. Good. Just stand right here. >> Can I finish? Can I finish this my side? One second, please. Quick. Fine. >> You don't got to do nothing next, bro. >> I'm not doing that. >> See, I just got to search you, man. >> Oh, you can search me. I'm not doing nothing right now. >> I don't have nothing. So I said, I'll let you finish your phone call. >> I don't have nothing, man. I don't have nothing. >> I absolutely >> I Hey, policy. I just got to check. >> Well, you fine. You're fine. I have no problem with that. >> All right. If you could just turn around for me. >> Have nothing. >> All right. I apologize. I got to put you in cuffs. Okay. I'm trying to be respectful here. >> I really got to go to jail. >> Seriously? For what? >> All right. You could just turn around for me. >> No, cuz I didn't do anything. >> Turn Don't stop. I'm not doing nothing. I'm standing right here. I just want to talk. >> Okay. >> Can I please talk to me for one more second? >> Just turn around for me and place your hands behind your back as if you were praying. >> One more second. I'm not going to be Can you please talk one more second? Just one second. >> I've given you enough. >> Okay. I've been courteous. I've been want to ask him one question. Two seconds.
