Tiffany. >> WHAT? >> TIFFANY. >> WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? >> ON THE METAL BAR? >> I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. >> OKAY. >> Over the next 2 hours, the suspect, Tiffany, slowly calmed down enough to be medically cleared. However, when officers take her out to put her in a patrol vehicle, she's still not happy with them. >> I'd help myself, but I can't reach. >> You're good. >> While the male motorcyclist was charged with DUI, the suspect, Tiffany, was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting, obstructing, [music] felony battery to a law enforcement officer, and felony throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker for spitting on one of the officer's legs when they took her to the ground at the original scene. She took a plea deal, pleading guilty to disorderly conduct and resisting, obstructing, while the other charges were dismissed. She was [music] sentenced to 2 years of probation and was released back into the public. >> I was looking at the numbers on drunk driving and something really caught my attention. Alcohol-impaired driving deaths jumped on the pandemic years and even today we're still talking about nearly 12,000 lives lost in a single year. Watching this video, that number started feeling a little different to me. Officers were already dealing with a suspected DUI involving that motorcyclist when Tiffany pulled in nearly hitting an officer. Now, she wasn't charged with DUI, so I'm not going to call it something that it wasn't, but she clearly wasn't in any condition to be behind the wheel. I guess this one hit me differently because I recently met a man named Bill. Now, a drunk driver permanently changed his life and he lost a limb because of somebody else's decision. Now, we talked for about 30 minutes and what stayed with me wasn't what Bill lost, it's what he refused to lose. His joy, his gratitude, the way he chose to keep moving forward. You know, we watch a lot of these cases and sometimes the story ends for us when the handcuffs go on. For the victim, it might be just beginning. Bill, if you're watching this, I want to sincerely thank you because that conversation that we had meant more to me than you'll ever know.
