If you keep pushing it right now, they're going to they're going to make you put you in cuffs, and I don't want to do that. And I know you don't want that either. Now is not the place to win it. You win in court. Okay? So, why don't we just let it be, Dom, and then take it to court. Look, there's more Reed. I know you don't want to put up with that. Yeah. Just let it go down cuz they're going to cuff you. Oh, I know why you're in the [ __ ] truck. Cuz the dog hit dog. Have you interacted with Dominic before? I have not. Okay. I've heard a lot about him, though. Dominic's a little upset right now. I can tell. by he rolled up just squealing tires and was yelling and screaming. He was he was up right in front of that car. I just pulled him over license. [Music] Excuse my ignorance. Whom are you? I'm Sarah Dunman. I work for you guys at the jail. Oh, yeah. I miss his little sister. But yeah, I thought Yeah, I saw him and I was like, "Oh, hell no." Cuz I knew Don would be a maler. I was just I just stopped down when I go. I know. He's our frequent flyer in the South County Jail. I don't I'm in the kitchen. So, yeah. All right, Sarah, since you are in custody for obstructing, um, I do got to read you these Miranda rights forms, okay? Uh, can you just hear me out before I ask you a question? I must advise you your constitutional rights. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law used against me. Do you wish to answer some questions I have for you? I'm I can't hear you. Okay. So, I am going to ask you to do field sobriety test. Um, that's all going to be just observations, fields and writing based upon uh to see if you're safe to be driving a vehicle today. I'm asking for your cooperation. We don't need to have another. Yes, it works two ways. Yeah, exactly. And thank you, Mr. I would appreciate that. Thank you. Hold on one second. Anything on your person that I missed? What? Yeah. Where is it at? Where where's in your bra? Well, where? Right, left, where? Left. Okay. Uh, no, you can't touch it. I see if they can have a female. Yeah. Reason I was asking something didn't look right. The way your shirt was sitting. Okay. Can you I'm trying to talk to you normal. I am talking to you like a normal person. What What can I do different to get your cooperation? Okay. Well, I understand you're you're upset with me because I stopped you. I get that part. But past that part, what can I do? Okay. where you notice he had no I explained to you the reason for the traffic stop come over and indicate requires okay all right and that's perfectly fine that's perfectly fine if that's what you believe that's what it that's what the court system's for so I was going to do fields but she's got some in her bra and like so if you could Just remove that before I take the test on it. All right, just relax for a second. Obviously, your hands are behind your back. I'm fine with letting you kind of stretch them out a little bit. Let the blood flow again. Going to have you stand on your feet together. Heels and toes just like this. Arms down at your sides. You see the green light? Why is that pissing you off? It's literally a piece of writing. It is for real. It'll all be documented. Ask your attorney in the future when when you Right. Nine. Yep. That's That's nine heel to toe steps. One, two, three. Except you're going to go to nine. This being your ninth step. Keep it planted. Take a series of small steps. Turn yourself around and go back. Nine more heel to toe steps. One. Two. Again, whenever you're ready. When's the last time you used? What kind? I don't know. So, do you normally drive the vehicle or does someone else normally pick the kids up? I normally Well, for picking them up, it's Jaylen is in basketball, so I pick her up every practice. But And she goes to Weston. Yeah. And I'm being serious. Do we need to call someone or is Kenneth taking care of it? I'm assuming assume Kenneth. Yeah, I would assume too. Otherwise, Weston probably would have called us. Have you Has anyone not picked up the kids ever? Called you. What's that? Well, they would call us if a parent didn't show up and they couldn't get a hold of a parent is what I'm getting at. Hey everyone, it's Trent, prior deputy sheriff, patrol sergeant, and canine handler. There's a lot going on here, but let's just start with Sarah, the main suspect. So Sarah was actually out on bond during this traffic stop, meaning she was still going to court for a prior case where she was arrested for being a possession of methamphetamine and also drug paraphernelia, probably a meth pipe or something like that. And I'm not sure if it was this officer that had arrested her or not, but obviously he is familiar with her. And then also, she is obviously driving a vehicle that has a license plate on it that belongs to another vehicle, which is a completely different crime. But while this officer is talking to her is able to establish that she is more than likely under the influence of a controlled substance based on her body movements, the things that she's saying and doing, how she looks. And after you've been a cop for a decent period of time, you get good at being able to detect those objective signs and symptoms that someone is going to more than likely be under the influence of a controlled substance just because we interact with so many people that use. And then based on Sarah's history and everything she has going on, this officer decides to get a K9 unit there and have the dog go around the car to see if it is going to alert on the vehicle. And when it alerts, that means it is detecting what it is trained to detect. More often than not, that is going to be illegal, which it does. And when a K9 alerts on a vehicle like that, it automatically gives officers the right to search the vehicle itself and also any occupants inside the vehicle. And you do not need a search warrant to do that. It is not technically a search to run a dog around a car to see if it is going to alert. You basically don't need a reason to do that at all. There is case law that states that you cannot extend the original traffic stop once you've concluded it just to wait for a K9 unit to show up so you can run it around the car. But as long as you're not doing that, you're pretty much good doing it whenever. And the K9 obviously alerted. Then later we see that Sarah had drugs in her bra, which is one of the more common places that women will put their drugs for obvious reasons. And then we see Dominic also show up to save the day because Sarah had notified somebody to tell him what was going on since that is his truck as he keeps yelling. He also yelling that he knows the law and they can't do that. Well, whenever someone's yelling like that that they know the law, that tells you that they don't know the law because, like I just explained, they are completely justified and good via the law in searching that vehicle. Now, Dominic is either the ex or current boyfriend of Sarah. They do have kids in common where Sarah was going to pick up those children while she was under the influence of a controlled substance. They later had to do a blood draw on her as well because there is no breathalyzer for drugs. And Dominic, while on scene yelling that that is his truck, he also just basically admitted to the fact that he probably has some knowledge of that license plate being on his truck that is from another vehicle. And his sister is even there saying that my brother is a frequent flyer at the jail and she works at the jail herself. And a frequent flyer means that he gets arrested often. Now, aside from all that, and I'm not sure if these officers did this or not, but they should probably notify CPS, Child Protective Services, or Department of Family Services about what's going on here with these kids' parents, Dominic and Sarah, and the fact that she's getting arrested multiple times for being under the influence of methamphetamine as well as being in possession of. And then you have Dominic, who's probably in the same boat as her, but that's just speculation. Probably a good idea, but I'm not sure if they did that or not. And that's going to be it for this one. See you guys in the next one. She was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, operating a vehicle without insurance, non-registration of an auto, possession of resist or obstruct an officer, possession of and bail jumping. But she remains innocent until proven guilty. [Music]
