Early Sunday morning, July 7, 2024 a routine patrol turned into a serious emergency response when police heard the unmistakable sound of a heavy vehicle collision near Newark and Washington Streets. Responding to the 50 block of Observer Highway, officers discovered a heavily damaged car that had lost control during a turn, hopped the curb, destroyed a street sign, and finally crashed into a utility pole. The injured driver was found bleeding from a severe hand laceration and required immediate medical attention from the local ambulance corps. During the on-scene investigation, police detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted the driver exhibiting delayed movements and droopy eyelids. This video breaks down the events leading up to the crash, the immediate medical and police response, and the subsequent field sobriety tests that resulted in serious legal consequences. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
