Bakersfield Police shot and killed a man in southwest Bakersfield Sunday evening after he reportedly brandished a weapon at officers after a death investigation. In a press release, BPD said officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Manning Street after a man reported his elderly mother was dead. Officers were looking into the death but did not find any suspicious circumstances. While officers were there, they discovered the adult son had an outstanding arrest warrant for a robbery. Because of the death investigation, officers decided to delay arresting the man. After the Kern County Coroner’s Office transported the elderly woman's body from the home, officers tried to arrest the man around 7:52 p.m.. Officers opened fire on the man after he reportedly brandished a knife. The unidentified man was later pronounced dead after paramedics responded to the location. The names of the decedents will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras at the time and the footage captured is expected to be released at a later date.
