REPORT: On July 20, 2024 at 2044 hours I was on I- 75 Northbound with Lt. Carey when a Black Durango SRT passed by us at a high rate of speed. Lt. Carey captured the vehicles speed on Lidar at 97mph in a 65mph zone in heavy traffic. I pulled out from the emergency lane and caught up to the vehicle. Once behind it I activated my emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The driver later identified as Jontavious Hood signaled to move over to the right and only moved over one lane. He failed to stop and was slow rolling. Once Lt. Carey caught up to me Mr. Hood hit his brakes and suddenly slammed on the gas initiating a pursuit. Mr. hood reached speeds of 140mph as we approached I-75 Northbound and I-285 connector. Mr. Hood made multiple erratic lane changes in between vehicles and utilizing the emergency lane multiple times while running cars off the road and out of there lanes almost crashing into several vehicles on separate occasions. Mr. Hood crossed over into the emergency lane just before Forest Parkway and cut back across from the emergency lane to the fat left lane and was following too closely behind two vehicles forcing them to spread apart as he sped between the two cars. Mr. Hood then cut off a Semi truck on I-75 Northbound to get onto the I-285 Westbound connector. Mr. Hood got onto I-285 connector at more than 120mph as we approached the I-285 Westbound loop. Mr. Hood then tried to take the turn at about 70-80mph and was continuously losing traction around the turn. Once at the top of the loop Mr. Hood tried to speed off and lost control hitting the tail end on his vehicle against the guardrail and bridge crossing over I-75 crashing before the vehicle came to a stop at the center on the bridge. The passenger identified as D. Foster exited the vehicle immediately with his hands raised before being detained and advised he was in possession of a firearm. Mr. Hood was then removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. Mr. Hood was in possession of a stolen handgun out of Atlanta Police Department. Mr. Hood was booked into the Clayton County Jail without further incident and Mr. Foster was later released. The vehicle was found to be stolen. This incident was captured on body camera and dash cam. Nothing further to report at this time.
