Charlotte County, Florida – On November 15, 2025, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash after finding a vehicle stopped on the side of the road. The driver initially insisted that she had not crashed and repeatedly attempted to return to the driver’s seat despite deputies directing her to move to a safe location. Deputies observed several signs of possible impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, difficulty maintaining balance, bloodshot and watery eyes, and slurred, mumbling speech. During the investigation, the woman called her daughter on the vehicle’s speakerphone. Her daughter immediately asked if she had been drinking — and she admitted that she had. After the crash investigation, deputies began a DUI investigation. The woman refused standardized field sobriety exercises and was ultimately arrested based on the totality of the circumstances. During the arrest, she resisted by pulling away and kicking at deputies. She was issued a DUI citation and a citation for refusing to submit to a breath test. She was also charged with Resisting Arrest with Violence and four counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. According to the charging information, each battery charge involved a separate incident occurring at a different time and location, including at the crash scene, during transport, and at the hospital during medical clearance.
