A pickup truck crashes down an embankment and bursts into flames. The driver is trapped inside, and the fire is spreading. What happens next is an incredible act of bravery caught on police bodycam. On June 21, 2020, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Saul McNaul was patrolling near Highway 120/108 in Knights Ferry, California, when a pickup truck veered off the road and crashed down an embankment. Within moments, flames began spreading through the vehicle. Deputy McNaul rushed toward the burning truck, where a Good Samaritan named John Phelps was already attempting to rescue the trapped driver. Working together, they desperately tried to free the injured man as flames and smoke surrounded the vehicle. Unable to pull him through the side window, the rescuers managed to extract the driver through a shattered rear window. But the danger wasn't over. After dragging the man away from the burning truck, the rescuers realized that nearby grass had caught fire, forcing them to move him farther from the flames. The driver survived and was later reported to be recovering from his injuries. This real police bodycam footage captures the extraordinary moments when a sheriff's deputy and a civilian risked their safety to save a stranger's life.
