On March 15, 2026, Rio Rancho Police Officers received a call about a woman passed out behind the wheel. As the caller was providing information to the police dispatcher, the woman gained consciousness and drove away. Officer Snipes located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. He made contact with the 55-year-old driver, who admitted to consuming three alcoholic beverages. Officer Snipes noted that he could see open containers of wine in her vehicle. The woman was asked to exit her vehicle in order to perform field sobriety testing. She was eventually arrested and was transported to the Rio Rancho police station. She provided two breath samples which registered 0.19% and 0.17% BAC. She was charged with (1) Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence (DWI); (2) Careless Driving; (3) No Insurance; (4) Driving While License Revoked; and (5) Having Open Container of Alcohol in her Vehicle. On June 17, 2026, she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of Non-Aggravated DWI. All of the original charges were dismissed. She was ordered to attend DWI School, perform Community Service, and install an Ignition Interlock Device on her vehicle.
