According to the public briefing, a black Kia Optima — reportedly linked to a hit-and-run and a shooting — was spotted by officers. After a short pursuit, the stolen Kia crashed into a marked patrol vehicle. A passenger reportedly fled on foot. An officer chased the individual, ordered him to show his hands, and when he did not comply and appeared to reach toward his waistband, the officer fired multiple shots, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. No civilians or bystanders were reported hurt. The State Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and determined the officer’s use of force was lawful under the circumstances.
