Full report: On August 14, 2022 at about 0857 hours I received a law enforcement notification in reference to a stolen vehicle near Gross Lake Parkway. I went towards the area to assist with looking for the vehicle. It was an orange Dodge Challenger and had not come back out of the Gross Lake Parkway Neighborhood. I arrived and saw that Sgt. T. Dickerson #9134 was parked on the side of Gross Lake Parkway and he advised he was going to set up stopsticks. I pulled to the intersection of Gross Lake Parkway and Lakeside Circle. I heard over the radio that Deputy B. Leazer #9181 had contact with the vehicle headed to the entrance of the subdivision. The vehicle came up to the stop sign at a high rate of speed and then slowed down. I activated my blue lights and siren. I was on the driver's side of the vehicle looking at it. The driver did not stop. The vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. I could see it moving faster and I could hear the engine of the vehicle get louder. I saw the vehicle hit the stopsticks. I advised radio I was in a vehicle pursuit at 0914 hours. The vehicle made a reckless left turn onto Fairview Road and did not stop at the stop sign. This forced a vehicle to stop on Fairview Road to avoid a crash. Speeds were over 40 M.P.H. on Gross Lake Parkway and over 93 M.P.H. on Fairview Road. The vehicle was passing vehicles in a no passing on Fairview Road. The vehicle did not stop at the red light on Fairview Road and Salem Road and went straight thought it around 40 M.P.H. While on McCalla Road inside of Rockdale County the vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the roadway. As we came up to a center island in the roadway the vehicle's tires were starting to smokeing and the vehicle attempted to go to the left of the center island but there was a car, so it came back to the right. The vehicle hit the center island and ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch then power pole. The driver opened the driver's side door and looked out of it. I exited my patrol car and drew my firearm, giving loud, clear verbal commands to stay in the car. Then as I got closer, I pointed my firearm at the driver and advised him to get on the ground. As I was walking up to the vehicle he looked to the passenger's side and attempted to get over the center console but couldn't. As he was exiting the vehicle, I took my left hand and placed it on the upper, center part of his back to have a hand on him as he got on the ground on his own. I holstered my firearm and placed my handcuffs on the driver. I walked the driver to my patrol car where I searched him and placed him in the rear of my patrol car. I later transported him to the Newton County Sheriff's Office where I released him to the jail staff. I will be taking warrants. Georgia State Patrol was involved in the pursuit and located the firearm form the vehicle. See GSP's report for more information. There was a juvenile that ran on foot from the vehicle that was caught a short distance later. The vehicle was turned over to hilltop Towing. The owner was notified. GSP took charges on the Juvenile. There were no reported injuries while on location or damage to property.
