While on routine patrol, Officers observed a white Chevy Malibu driving northbound on S Hawkins Ave with no rear lights. We attempted to perform a traffic stop near the intersection of S Hawkins and Courtland Ave by initiating our overhead lights and sirens. The vehicle failed to stop by accelerating at a high rate of speed through residential neighborhoods. Throughout the pursuit, the driver (later identified as Asmar Epps 3/16/1998) ran multiple stop signs at approximately 50 mph disregarding the safety of the public. We continued to pursue the vehicle until it crashed at the intersection of Copley Rd and Madison Ave. After Epps crashed, he fled on foot eastbound through a grass lot. The officer caught up with Epps and was able to apprehend him. During the apprehension, Epps resisted arrest, and force was used to effect an arrest. He was run through LEADS and was found to have a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on a traffic offense out of Ashland County. He was also found to be driving with a suspended license. During the tow inventory, officers located a loaded Glock 40 (BTRN509) underneath the front passenger seat in an orientation that was accessible by Epps. An additional empty magazine was found in the glove box of the vehicle underneath a stack of papers. Photographs were taken of the placement of the firearm and the location of the black magazine. He has a prior trafficking conviction (2017CR103723 - 5/16/2018) making him unable to possess/own any firearm. The subject was transported to Akron General by AFD and was later transported to Summit County Jail via Wagon 89. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
